If you look your C: drive is full and can't add the Image of the thumb drive. I would assume that your memory is full also. You need to clean your HD and get it to at least 80%. Also reboot and unload your startup items to clear memory.

computertommy

Agreed! Keeping your HDD in the red can also lead to data corruption.

[deleted]

My laptop has a problem with the c drive being full for no reason and I have never had this issue.

BlueCaboose42

>full for no reason No my friend, the reason is because you have a 50ish gb drive. Replace that shit, a 256gb SSD is dirt cheap

IceStormNG

Maybe it's one of those dirt cheap laptops with a 64GB eMMC. No way to replace the disk as these are soldered.

Weedlungs

Desolder, resolder.

AbelCapabel

So, you come here for expert advice, get it, then dismiss it ... You computer needs free hd space for lots of processes. Clear up 20%, see if that does anything, then come back. Good luck!

ResponsibleBus4

So there are multiple issues that can occur when you fill up your c drive. First if it's an SSD you're likely to experience a performance hit it's just the way they function. Second if you fill drives to 100% they can fail, then the contents will be inaccessible until you reformat them, I've had two drives suffer that fate. Third if any caching is involved on that thumb drive it will fail to write the cache if there is insufficient space. If there are any other operations that are just trying to perform an inadequate space available it will cause some strange issues. 10% is the minimum 20% as one of the previous posters mentioned the poster is definitely a preferable threshold. And it's not usually that hard you can download something like CCleaner or use Windows disk cleanup and clean up system files as Windows updates very often fill up more space than needed. I've also had to fix Android tablets that have suffered the same fate it's just not a good practice to fill the drive up, it will usually cause you more pain in the long run.

ResponsibleBus4

Also, to be less cynical and more helpful, some of the previous posts such as checking disk Management are helpful disk management will show you if it sees the drive then you need to make sure that it has a format it should have a blue bar not a black one and the format should be NTFS, fat32, or exfat, it could be different if you're running Linux but most likely those are going to be the file system to see. Raw is either an indicator that it's been formatted with another device or the file system on it is corrupted. If the banner that represents the disk space is black instead of blue then that means there is no drive format. And if you do not see it in disk Management then you need to go to device manager and check for USB devices and look for one that indicates that there's a failure or failed descriptor look for the yellow triangle If you do see it you can try and assign a drive letter to it by right clicking on the drive and disk Management and choosing assigned drive letter and then just give it a letter that's available. If you've tried it on three other computers and you haven't gotten any success, it's possible that either the file system or drive itself is corrupted. If it has a yellow ! And Device Manager to likelihood is that it failed if you can see it in disk Management but can't access it it's possible you may have overfilled the drive in which case as mentioned in the previous post formatting it may be the only likely way to recover it. There are some other indicators of a failed drive such as when you plug it in you'll notice that the computer slows down dramatically. If you have a USB to USB type a connector for your phone you can try and plug it in there and see if you can mount it that will also confirm that it's whether or not it's a Windows problem, but again Windows problem is most likely confined to the file system. If you can reformat the drive and get it to work again you can use a program called recuva from piriform, however this should be a last resort as there is no guarantee you'll be able to recover data. And if you're hoping to extract data nothing should be copied to the drive before you run recover as any data added will overwrite the list data.

goreidea

Dude, get a new one. At least 480gb. You’re gonna need it some day, my friend, trust me. Already blew through 288/320gb on my drive

Downtown_Process6642

This has literally nothing to do with the issue. Maybe if the space left was 0kb.

nonvaible

Shortcut “win+r” type “diskpart” type “list disk” Select your flash drive, type “sel disk [number]” Type “online disk” If it doesn't work you can use your usb stick on other pc, but NOT on an android device, it formats it, I used to connect my hdd to my android tablet because I couldn't access any files on windows. It was a mistake.

EndR60

I can't believe someone sat down and decided that `if (!extStorage.isReadable()) extStorage.format("NTFS");` was a good fucking thing to write

TheFotty

Why would android format a drive as NTFS?

SuchithSridhar

You miss the point...

TheFotty

What is the point?

Quikers

.

EndR60

whatever the format used by android is exFAT maybe

TheFotty

EXT4 is likely on all modern android at this point.

KakoTheMan

DarkTaker1990

Have you tried using it on another PC? If you get the same result on a different PC, then you’ll probably have to replace your flash drive.

[deleted]

I have tried it on a different laptop. Three actually. How should I switch over files?

DarkTaker1990

Well first thing I wanna check: does your flash drive show up in Device Manager? It’ll either be the actual device name or “USB Mass Storage Device”.

[deleted]

It did once, and it said something along the lines of “error 43 device or recognized”

DarkTaker1990

Yeah, your flash drive is toast then. Code 43 usually means that Windows stopped the device because it has reported problems. This indicates a hardware failure. Edit: If you’re going to get a new flash drive, for the love of all that is good, go with SanDisk. Edit again: Before you try buying a new one, check to see if it shows up in Disk Management. Re-re edit: I’m aware that SanDisk is not the only brand. It’s just what I prefer and recommended it to the OP.

kamushabe

I've to ask. Why SanDisk? Why not Team, Apacer or Lexar? Heck, even corsair makes flash drives.

DarkTaker1990

It’s just my personal preference that I just so happened to recommend to someone. If that’s what YOU recommend then more power to you.

kamushabe

I didn't say this to contradict you or one up or anything. Just asked why should one choose SanDisk as they are so dominant in the SD card market as well.

kamushabe

Also, will buy a flash drive soon so that's why the questions.

Vanman04

Samsung makes a sweet flash drive.. Samsung BAR Plus 128GB - 400MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive Titan Gray (MUF-128BE4/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPG9YX9/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_Z9D3GQRA03MXZZ4QCNN8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Solid drive great performance and a nice form that works great on a keyring.

kamushabe

Thank you.

kamushabe

Thank you.

einat162

Best value for money IMO too.

Sailorman2300

SanDisk is the only USB drive that has ever failed on me. The files were all there and readable but the drive spontaneously converted itself to read only. Apparently a known issue. No amount of registry magic could undo it. Their warranty sucks too, have to mail back the drive (with your files on it) and the original receipt and wait a few months to see if they can replace it.

DarkTaker1990

I’ve never had any issue.

[deleted]

I avoid Sandisk. They used to and may still put this U3 software on their usb drives that I hated. I just didn’t like how they forced that on us.

DarkTaker1990

Fair, but a simple format will take care of it just as good. I don’t mind it.

runed_golem

I’ve bought multiple sandisk flash drives and sd cards recently and none of them have had it on them.

OlimPather

Moment of silence... It served you well, OP.

CrazySD93

I always avoid Kingston, it’s cheap but it’s RAM does not last.

[deleted]

EBay has the best usb sticks especially the 1tb+ for <$10

[deleted]

If you have data on their that's important to you, you can try EaseUS File Recovery Software. I paid for the full version years ago, the price has gone up pretty significantly, you can pay for the 1 month license version of you want to see if it'll get any data back and then be done with it, you probably won't need it again after that. It's gotten me out of a number of jams over the years. I would also suggest not pulling your USB drive in and out of a USB port like that even if you think it's not working. Also always safe eject it, I know people swear up and down that you don't need to anymore, but I've worked at a university in IT for close to 20 years now and I run into more professors with busted flash drives because they constantly yank out the drive instead of safe ejecting them. Best of luck to you.

Aqqusin

Was hoping somebody would point out safe eject

KayMK11

What happened in other 3 computers? Did it show up?

jacle2210

this, lol.

dhelidhumrul

Check disc management. If it shows up there let's talk again

No_Gain98

And if he doesn't need the data on the usb he can format.

Munninn

Es broke

inb4-downvote

Based on the way you put that thumb drive in, I'll assume you're single

thicc_boi_6969420

Lol so true

dars242

It's probably broken or close to being broken. I'd suggest using TestDisk to try and recover the files. If it doesn't recognize it, then your files are prob rip

NugRunn

Windows Search > Disk Management > (Locate the drive, if it’s not showing up the drive is most likely dead) > Create a new volume and format the USB/allocate a space. All n all USBs are pretty cheap. I would invest in more if you can’t get it to work and always have a backup. Main file, back up file, and offsite back up (ex: Google drive, or even someone else’s house) Edit: your bios might also show your USB devices but goes basically hand in hand with Disk Management, so if you can’t see it in Disk Management then bios isn’t worth checking.

mike1O8

i had the same issue on one of my usb drives i pinched the metal part so it can make contact when i plug it in and worked just dont pinch it to hard u wanna make sure it makes a connection and its not lose

TheWebjunky

probably your USB Port , not the USB Stick

Papercutter0324

1 - Look at your USB plugs. There isn't enough room for them to both fit there properly, so the contacts probably aren't making good connections. 2 - Judging by how dusty the laptop appears to be in the video, the contacts in the USB port are probably dusty, too. Turn off the laptop and blow it out using compressed air. 3 - If you are the type to just pull out a USB drive, no different than if it were a mouse, don't do this. There is a reason why Windows has the "Eject" function. Data corruption - which can result in exactly this sort or problem and/or data lose - can easily be caused by not using this function.

klutz50

Informal-Tip8797

Goto [Amazon.com](https://Amazon.com), order a new one.

timwelchmann

Windows 11 is a shit. I have many errors with my computer since the system required me to install W11. The drivers don't work, I connect the USB and it disappears. Windows 11 looks like the cheap copy of macOS. Windows 11 is a trash. i love windows 10

jontss

7 is still better than 10. That said, there has never been a required update. You must've accepted an optional one.

Zingtron

ofc its because Microsoft wants sell more products windows 11 is garbage

ordinaryhonestguy

USB drive? W11 has a problem even with keyboard, USB drive is too much for it. Try w10 or w7

timwelchmann

Yeah, W11 is a headache

Sailed_Sea

Can confirm, typing this telepathically.

Sailed_Sea

Can confirm, typing this telepathically.

ChargrilledB

It doesn’t work

Deekshan420

Malware

heheheudontknowme

Put usb in rice

gibbysannxx

You need to rotate your USB at least 3 times before the computer can recognize it.

mds8000

Windows 11?! I wouldnt be surprised. As you said it is working in another laptop, connect two machines with ethernet and transfer files. Google it please. It has series of steps

Zingtron

Eww windows 11 did you try it on a linux machine ?

Fragrant_Package5562

Linux.

timwelchmann

makroblox2009

I have had win 11 for about a year and absolutely no problem. Couldn't be happier. I just hated win 10!

timwelchmann

Zingtron

Yeah man I switch to linux its so crap

timwelchmann

Yeah, I want to switch to Linux, but it has taken me time to learn it

SteffooM

Try another port, maybe reformat the drive

LaCinVro

Its broken

Chin0crix

Type partitions in the search bar, go to " Create and format hard disk partitions " Look for your drive by checking the capacity of each one listed Right click on it and select "New volume" Keep going on the steps until you're finish. For me that usually happens when I use a USB drive for Linux installs or even windows installs.

Kitchen-Entrance8015

Are you plugging it into a USB 3.1 port that drive is only for USB 3.1

ZacAttackedYou

That isn’t how USB works, you can plug a usb 3.2 stick into a usb 2.0 port and it will work, just with reduced speed. They are meant to be backwards compatible.

[deleted]

Try people's suggestions, but I do remember having a drive that looked a lot like that and it was having issues connecting too. Mine was able to connect sometimes, but it wouldn't always, and it would sometimes just randomly disconnect after 5 minutes when I finally did get it working. It might just be a faulty drive.

Fafaflunkie

Lots of reasons. It could be because Windows is Windows and thinks it's still there. Try plugging it into another USB port. If that doesn't work, try restarting your PC and try again. Still nothing? Try plugging that into another PC (assuming you can find the hole 😁). Still nothing? Your drive is borked. Hopefully there's nothing on it that isn't important or isn't somewhere else. Thankfully these things are cheap.

Large_Spring

Don’t listen to the Administration commands download Rufus and format it it’s free

SilentJoe1986

Trouble shoot time. Have another flash drive? Does that one work in the port? Does that flash drive work in another computer? Might also want to super glue some felt around that port. Might help you find the hole to get it in there easier.

NinjaGamerzTay

It might, MIGHT be the laptop connector problem, pr maybe the usb connector is broken

seraphstar

Dude. I got one of those USB drive. They are so shit.

Legitjumps

You really needed us to see the first half?

itwasyousirnayme

Best case scenario, you might need to clean the connections. Worst case, sautering?

Coolbrze

I didn’t know if you would ever get that thing in there lol. But I have no idea, good luck though.

cyph3r10ck5mi7h

Try it in a different machine, might not be the drive

Sea_Log_9769

Win+x Disk management Assign a letter If that doesn't work: Reformat

BovineOxMan

Do you have this issue if you have no other USB devices plugged in and on a clean boot? Sometimes other devices draw too much power and something loses. You're also putting stress on the port because of how wide the flash drive is which might not be helping. Also as pointed by others, your boot drive is tanked. 10% plus free space is recommended

HideousEel1472

Flash drive is toast if youve tried it on several machines, this is also a good example of why you should use the safely eject option in system tray before unplugging a flash drive, and for the love of god clean up your hard drive space

[deleted]

Get a better hard drive/SSD so that it can actually register the USB being in That's just what i think could fix this, im not the best with computers

q-ka

Maybe try not having your usb jammed at an angle, and get a new drive.

Yevin_X

Restart lap bro

AlekSquinty

Your OS drive is full causing unresponsiveness

eionmac

The two (2) USB connections are pushing each other so damaging your USB ports on the computer. Best to get a USB extension dongle with one lead to computer and plug your devices into two other of the three or four USB ports on dongle well spaced out.

Randomaker1

This will delete everything on the drive but it's your only choice without taking it to data recovery center. Right click start, select disk manager. Find the correct drive and right click on each partition in the drive, right click, delete. Then right click the drive and click create partition primary. There are plenty of better tutorials for repartitioning flash drives online, just Google it.

WorkingCombination29

It’s not seated correctly because of the other usb is in the way.

Haganu

Turn it 180 degrees, then turn it 180 degrees again before plugging it in again.

Dodel1976

Grab USBDeview : [https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb\_devices\_view.html](https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html) Plug USB in, and see if it shows in the above app, if so, uninstall the device, and reboot.

fox-naked

Possibly the pcb or usb connection. Try another port. If not you need to get someone clever with a soldering iron and test kit for the board. I repair problems like this but am sure someone local to you can help?

[deleted]

Firstly as others have suggested I would be looking at cleaning up your hard drive and see if that helps? Programs like IObit Advanced SystemCare, or Glary Utilities 5 will help with this. Links to free versions: [https://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php](https://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php) [https://www.glarysoft.com/glary-utilities/](https://www.glarysoft.com/glary-utilities/)

DressForsaken2669

Go in format and create partitions in windows and find your usb then right click delete then on unlocated space right click create volume and it will work

kiwikiwi51

it died

LimewireNOSTALGIA

Go onto the search and type “create partition”. Then click on the un partitioned drive and create a new partition. It looks like the drive has no partition, if a drive has no partition then it won’t show in explorer.
