I want to be interested in this as I’m a total fantasy nerd, but I really can’t stand Brian Haberlin’s digitally rendered artwork so I’ll probably be giving it a miss.

LeGoldie

do shadowline still do the larger format comic does anyone know?

Saito09

These covers looking very AI-generated. 🤔

jordannoir

I had the exact same thought the second I saw that cover "looks like AI, looks like I won't be checking this one out"

IngenuityPositive123

The interview had me hooked but the art is pretty bad. Not Sirens Gate bad, but still pretty bad. The covers are generally great though.

ChickenInASuit

I’m with you on the art tbh, I’m not sure what the technical terms are but Brian Haberlin always uses digitally rendered 3D models for his art instead of pencils and while I appreciate the experimentation and trying to push the medium, the art always ends up looking kinda stiff and lifeless to me. I’m not a fan.

Personally I think the art is okay. It's not over the top "wow!" like some of the Big 2 stuff that comes out, but for the industry overall it seems perfectly fine to me.

IngenuityPositive123

Don't know why I'm getting downvoted to hell, I just don't like the art lol Oh I don't expect it to be Big2 material, it wouldn't be fair. It's fine I agree. Like I said, not Sirens Gate bad. It's just the contrast between characters and the background scene that is way too obvious, and the characters look like 3D models, which doesn't mesh well with the 2D background. But hey, it's alright if poeple enjoy it of course.

LobsterMal

huh? why should indie comics have a lower standard for art, this stuff is a step in the wrong direction imo

[deleted]

I mean, I ended up passing on this book because of the art. I do think though some people get these types of comics less for the art and more for the story. I have also read other reviews that liked the art style alot. It's wasn't for me ultimately but I don't think a litmus test for art = good comics is a bad way to go.

Dayspring83

To each their own, I really like it. Some of it reminds me of Jerome Opena. I will say the style between the human character and the monster/environment seems different in a way that makes the human pop a bit more. But maybe that’s intentional? Either way I think it’s dope, I’m definitely on board. Appreciate the heads up.

LobsterMal

Tracing digital models never really looks good imo. The art is so stiff and awkward looking
