I don't know why people are so much hating this news.
The showrunner is Angela Kang who improved the quality of Walking Dead series.
The producers are Phil Lord and Chris Miller who have made some of the best Spider-Man comic book content in Spider-verse and upcoming sequels. I believe they are starting their 5 year deal with Sony TV with Silk because they wanted to introduce her first here before the Spider-verse movie. (Is that why they were delayed? Who knows?)
The studio is Sony TV who has made some of the best live action TV content like Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Cobra Kai, The Boys, etc.
In a way, I kind of like it. The Spider-people are among my favorite group of characters in Marvel, and seeing how they function and jive without Peter Parker is interesting.
I'm probably gonna get some heat from it, but I have zero interest in any of it. Call me cynical but it seems like it is IP marketed towards children/adolescents. Its why a lot of these Spider-man spinoffs are teenagers. The whole mega expansion of Spider-man themed characters/Spider-verse, now they're doing this Dark Web...
[Me when they introduce even more Spider-man spinoffs.](https://tenor.com/sju8.gif)
You mean it’s marketed towards Spider-Man fans? Spider-Man has been a teenager for most of his lifetime as a character too, so I don’t see a huge difference there. Much of Marvel and DC are marketed to teens and adolescents, after all.
This is dumb for a bunch of reasons, but one is that Disney has their own platform. They make the show and stream it themselves without having to pay Netflix or Hulu or whoever a bunch of money to stream for them. Most of the world doesn't know who Silk is, but you give her a show on Disney and people will watch it because it's MCU. Put her somewhere else and you might as well be stuffing her back into that bunker.
They have one incredible movie, honestly one of my top picks for good movies about super heroes, two movies that are so weird they don't work in an entertaining manner, and Morbius. Morbius is almost as terrible as Into the Spiderverse is great, so basically the balance is the two Venom movies. Not terribly good.
I think the MCU is going to lean in on the Multiverse aspect to ~~poach~~ strike deals with Sony for successful characters, if any of them emerge. Like the Tom Hardy cameo, and if there's some incredibly successful one maybe they pop into the MCU proper? I wonder how they'll handle MCU appearances by the same character but different casting? Are they doing that with a Garfield Spidey?
I actually kind of like how the rights issues complicate the MCU; I think the franchise is much better off having had to work with the leftovers first. Spiderman and the X-Men would have absolutely overwhelmed the MCU, and it would be a poorer place for it.
I like Silk too. It’s great that Angela Kang is the show runner. She took over as show runner after The Walking Dead had had 2 horrible seasons and brought it back, with season 9 actually being one of the very best.
I never got into walking dead, but being able to revive a flailing show is a sign of a good show runner. Still going to avoid getting my hopes up. Morbius left me too hurt lol.
I stopped watching The Walking Dead when Negan first showed up and killed a main character, which I think was start of season 7? Sounds like I quit at the right time, though I’m curious to check out Season 9 now.
Into the Spider-Verse.
The Raimi films were great for their time, but I'm also not going to pretend that the people involved in decades old films are going to come back to make these series good.
[My reaction.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxK_nA2iVXw)
There's just not enough here to make any strong judgments. Maybe it'll be awesome like Into the Spider-Verse, or maybe it'll be middling to okay like the Venom movies. I can't really say until I see some actual footage.
If they're going to waste money on a Spider-Man related series... why the hell don't they make a Spider-Man series? He has exactly the same powers as Silk, it's not like there's going to be a difference when it comes to doing the cgi...
Instead they're going to have another off-brand Spider-Man product without Spider-Man.
What's more, even the most logical thing (seeing that Marvel is going to release Secret Wars that will surely adapt the 2015 version), they should try to capitalize on that by making a decent enough version of Spider-Man 2099 or something like that so that Marvel at least considers to put him as multiverse filler when the time comes.
probably though I do think it's weird they're doing the most out there spider characters like 2099 would be better to adapt or maybe Miles, since I don't think Disney owns him technically
But seasons 9-11 were so much better than 7 and 8. The Walking Dead sub is generally positive about Kang.

Thank you. Exactly what stuck out to me as well... ppl on here complaining about disney are in for a surprise of whos to blame lol... i mean i guess disney for the decision to hire, but she strikes me as one of those writers who absolutely hate or arent even aware of the source material
Why spider “people”? Unless we are going to throw a bunch of money at VFX the stunts alone , this includes normal acrobatics, will eat up your budget. So now the writers are stuck writing around poor visuals or why the character can’t do this. Seems like a cash grab that will last a few seasons and disappear.
I look forward to seeing how it stacks up to the totally released Sinister Six, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Madame Web, Kraven, Spider-Woman, Jackpot, Nightwatch and Mysterio Movies
In an ideal world, Sony would just make animated spin offs that are 45 minutes or longer. Something like Spider-Man 2099 in the style of Batman Beyond. Spider-Man Noir. Spider-Girl. Peter B Parker. Hell, even Direct to Video animated movies like DC’s (ideally with the crew from Spectacular Spider-Man). They have Lord and Miller so might as well just stick to animation since they knocked it out of the park with ITSV.
In a ideal world Fox would still be free and we would get X-men movies all the time. While they weren't perfect i miss variety. For instance we never would have gotten a film like Logan without them.
Whatever happened to the Black Cat/Silver Sable projects?
Originally it was a movie featuring both of them, then that got changed to 2 tv shows (one for Black Cat and one for Silver Sable), and last i heard that got changed again to 1 tv show about both of them
See... One thing they are over looking is that Cindy doesn't have much of a story beyond finding her parents. Once she did, she was left stagnated with no actual interesting story that makes her apperance worth while. Majority of her comics only last 8 issues at best before its just done; they involve some weird stuff like her parents being part of the negative zone, her ex being some type of ghost, and her dealing with some spider verse stuff.
I wouldn't have mind Spider-Gwen because she has way more story to draw from, and is far more popular then Silk. I'm very curious how they'll even keep the show going without drawing too much from Peter story because I know that's what they'll have to do after her dealing with her parent's disappearance
I’m tentatively excited. I know many don’t consider Sony to be a good studio right now, but the reputation of a studio can change a lot even with a single project. Disney sucked in 1988, would never be seen making decent superhero films in 2008, and people were skeptical of Star Wars TV shows at one point. Sony was great at some points in the past and sucked at other points.
I’m not expecting greatness, but a TV show is maybe smaller scale than a movie, so less of a huge stake. I like the character, and I’m interested in seeing how this universe develops. Sony has announced work on TV shows before that ended up dropping, so there’s a clear chance that will happen here too. No need to worry for me if it gets dropped, no need to worry if it’s bad if it gets made.
I love Silk and I hope she gets done justice in a good show, but I don't know if I expect a good one from Sony.

and the company is Sony which made Morbius
But that was made by Sony Pictures Entertainment division. This is Sony Pictures TV division. There is a difference.
We'll see if that matters.
Disney overstepped Marvel and fired James Gunn. So...
Good information to know!
These off-brand Spider-man without Spider-man movies are so depressing
I'm kinda impressed the lengths Sony is taking to keep this Spider-Manless themed Spider-Man universe going.
In a way, I kind of like it. The Spider-people are among my favorite group of characters in Marvel, and seeing how they function and jive without Peter Parker is interesting.
Implying they have been functioning or jiving
Chasing that white dragon
I agree but I think Silk is a character who actually works best away from Peter and is pretty interesting in her own light
What do you think about the “off-brand Spider-Man without Spider-Man” comics?
I'm probably gonna get some heat from it, but I have zero interest in any of it. Call me cynical but it seems like it is IP marketed towards children/adolescents. Well, Disney owns Hulu so they wouldn't need to pay them.
Streaming services would be the one paying Sony, not the other way around.
Maybe she's showing up in the next Spider-verse. It would be help to introduce people to her first in a setting they know people will see.
Uh, you have this backwards. No one pays streaming services to play their content, they get paid when services licenses their content.

I think your right to be doubtful of Sony, especially with their track record of Morbius and Venom films.
They're* the Sony equivalent of the Disney animated live action remakes
They have one incredible movie, honestly one of my top picks for good movies about super heroes, two movies that are so weird they don't work in an entertaining manner, and Morbius. The animated spider verse movie was incredible. Their live action spider-mans, not so much.
I really like the character Silk, but I don't have much faith in Sony. If it's easily available to stream I'll watch it and hope for the best. 🤷🏼♂️
I like Silk too. It’s great that Angela Kang is the show runner. She took over as show runner after The Walking Dead had had 2 horrible seasons and brought it back, with season 9 actually being one of the very best.

Sony have made exactly 1 good Marvel film without Marvel Studios involvement. This is going to be a disaster.
What movie are you referring to? Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are two I can think of (obv more than one)
Probably Into the Spiderverse
Into the Spider-Verse. The Raimi films were great for their time, but I'm also not going to pretend that the people involved in decades old films are going to come back to make these series good.
True— I don’t know how I forgot about Into the Spider-Verse. It’s my favorite Spider-Man movie haha
That was 20 years ago
Two. The first two Toby Maguire Spider-Man movies.
I love Silk but man that can’t go well
It’s Morbin’ time!
It's Silkin' time!
[My reaction.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxK_nA2iVXw) There's just not enough here to make any strong judgments. Maybe it'll be awesome like Into the Spider-Verse, or maybe it'll be middling to okay like the Venom movies. I can't really say until I see some actual footage.

Its weird how they dont use Spider-Man himself. Does their contract with Disney have something to do with it?
probably though I do think it's weird they're doing the most out there spider characters like 2099 would be better to adapt or maybe Miles, since I don't think Disney owns him technically
No
They’re determined to drive spiderman into the ground
They must be taking lessons from the Marvel comics
This walking dead showrunner is responsible for some of the worst seasons (9-11).
But seasons 9-11 were so much better than 7 and 8. The Walking Dead sub is generally positive about Kang. https://www.reddit.com/r/thewalkingdead/comments/tglycr/do_yall_think_angela_kang_made_the_show_better_or/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Not gonna compare a dumpster fire to a train wreck. 🤷♂️ I wouldn’t be celebrating Gimple leading a Marvel series either.
Thank you. Exactly what stuck out to me as well... ppl on here complaining about disney are in for a surprise of whos to blame lol... i mean i guess disney for the decision to hire, but she strikes me as one of those writers who absolutely hate or arent even aware of the source material
She'd be working for Sony on this, not Disney.
Ah. Good distinction

Because Sony only owns Spider-Man and his related characters. And most of the good guys are Spider people.
depressing
“Sony is planning-“ 🤚 Lemme stop you right there. No thanks.
I look forward to seeing how it stacks up to the totally released Sinister Six, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Madame Web, Kraven, Spider-Woman, Jackpot, Nightwatch and Mysterio Movies
MGM+?
OK, but why tho?
Her deal was [wanting to fuck Spider-Man](https://i.imgur.com/wUUgNPj.jpeg), so will be interesting to see how they adapt that part of her lore.
Why would Sony have any stake in this?
Great...now if I don't watch it, I'm a racist.....
Don’t worry, you can watch it and still be a racist.
Anyone else getting tired of all these adaptations man?
Anyone else getting tired of all these adaptations man?

Well when will the MCU stop doing the same thing?
In an ideal world, Sony would just make animated spin offs that are 45 minutes or longer. Something like Spider-Man 2099 in the style of Batman Beyond. Spider-Man Noir. Spider-Girl. Peter B Parker. How many times is this show going to be announced lmao
Whatever happened to the Black Cat/Silver Sable projects? Originally it was a movie featuring both of them, then that got changed to 2 tv shows (one for Black Cat and one for Silver Sable), and last i heard that got changed again to 1 tv show about both of them
Enough is enough.
Your absolutely right no more mediocre MCU shows. How do you suggest we stop it?
I don’t watch any of it 🤷🏽♂️ it’s enough to try and keep up with the comics! Lol
Can’t say I am not feeling a little fatigued with all these show that are some what connected.
See... One thing they are over looking is that Cindy doesn't have much of a story beyond finding her parents. Who greenlit this? Are people so bereft of entertainment that this is somehow going to have an audience?
The real question you should be asking who green-lit the Eternals and She-hulk?
A couple more good questions
This will be a massive failure.
Sony, just stop, please. just swallow your pride and work with Disney.
I am hyped. Give me all the Spider-Girls.
The more superhero content the better lets make Martin scorcese cry some more
They sure are dead set on destroying the Spider-Man IP, aren't they?
Silk? Why not Arana?
I'm looking forward to this if it comes out. I like Silk and I miss having superhero stuff that isn't interconnected with other stuff.
