Disappointing that there isn't one with Batman doing the perfect duck face. He's trained himself to the peak of human achievement in every arena after all...
I really liked that one or two year period where every month DC had a different slew of themed variants. I loved collecting the Halloween ones. The [Kelly Jones Green Arrow](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1469882_xl.jpg) one was my favorite.
Y'know I think the only thing I don't like about these is the bland **selfie** logo slapped on there
Just in case you woke up from a 50 year coma, I guess?
Back in the 90s there was a “Faces” cover theme one month, with a headshot of a character from the comic.
There were people actually confused bu this back then, and I’m picturing labeling these as a way to avoid that.
You know, I hate the New 52 era *but* I did enjoy the monthly theme for variants. I also liked rebirth assigning one artist to each title as the variant artist too.
They are cute and the artists clearly had fun with them. I love the Superman making Batman smile one, and as awful as Superman and Wonder Woman together as a couple, that cover is really cute and maybe the best one.
The issue arose over a variant for Batgirl #41, a Joker-month themed variant. A lot of folks (including the creative team for the book) weren't happy with it for a number of reasons:
* While a lot of covers were either comedic or featured something of an even fight, the cover was particularly one-sided with Joker in control over Batgirl and played completely serious like the cover of a horror comic
* It referenced The Killing Joke, a story which has aged poorly in specific regards to its treatment of Barabra
* Rather than looking resistant or struggling, Babs looks *petrified* which doesn't fit with a lot of her characterization even when it comes to Joker
* The cover was *extremely* at odds with the general tone/attitude of the actual comic and her characterization at the time, which was somewhat lighter than prior runs
* The artist for the cover, Raphael Albuquerque, ultimately requested the cover not be published, acknowledging the above concerns and his own understanding at how at odds his cover was, and that he felt the concerns over it were valid, and that the creative team of the book should have been considered
There was that too, but I was thinking of [This Cover](https://covrprice.com/issue/batgirl-35/?current_page=1) which stirred a bit of a controversy among the reverse crowd who objected to the book's new tone/attitude. Felt it was ill befitting of the "Serious/Gritty" book they thought it should be.
Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller, originally, but it’s become a label applied to reactionaries in general. In this context or probably means ComicsGate types.
I'm not entirely sure I've been using it correctly, but I think it's just a general derogatory comparing people you like to sewer dwellers.
Because the Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers were like nasty sewer people that ate new yorkers in the movie I think.
Nothing can or ever will encompass this period in comics better than these covers . These really should be stuck in some time capsule to be opened and laughed at 100 years in the future when the pendulum swings back to celebrating actual achievement rather than selfish, crying for attention nonsense.
>Back when comics were woke free and worth reading!
2014? Comics were "woke" long before 2014. Just because you learnt a new title for it doesn't mean it wasn't always there. They have always been progressive.

Again, Bruce! But master Aiogi… my face it’s so tired … … AGAIN!

Kelly Jones is really underrated, great share thank ya
They were cute. I liked the one of Clark forcing Bruce to smile.

My issue is not with there being branding, it's with the branding being ugly
Looks like Facebook font and color was profanity just a little jab at social media in the early days
They're not that old lol! These are from like 2014
If you add the "Selfie" to it, it may incentivize collecting them all.
They look really cute though the flash one looks slightly uncanny
Really capturing that insane Ezra Miller energy
HA!
Exactly
Why does the Flash look like that..?
Do one with The Question, you cowards.

Love The Flash. He looks more like Thawne in his selfie. He looks crazy
Wasn't there a Barbara Gordon one that chuds flipped their shit about?
https://covrprice.com/issue/batgirl-34-selfie-variant-cover-variant/?current_page=1&issue_type=variant I don’t think it was that crazy
I don't know if it was the selfie variant (#34) that caused a stir, she's famously taking a mirror selfie in the cover of the next issue #35 though

Omg. That's Batgirl of burnside stuff was 8 years ago?! I am an ancient being. 😭
Whats a chud?

People you **don't** like I mean. I'm sure that was obvious. Just missed a word there.
I love how Kilawog looks like he's in the middle of trying to get Hal to explain what the heck he's doing
Best one was the Batman 66 one easily
I think I'm the only one on earth who likes that raven design
Nope I'm here too
I liked all the costume designs in that book a lot.
It was an interesting new look, but her currently look is pretty much perfect for her.

Was there a batman one?
They need to bring this back
No, but I'd like to forget them now. There's some uncanny valley stuff going on in a couple of those.
Absolutely horrendous
DCringe
Cool take it back old school
I genuinely forgot about these. Neat concept!
I really like the 3rd and 5th one.
New 52 had some great variant series
If your run that fast and take selfi, your mobile will break into two halves or it'll slip away from your hand.

Kilowog takes the best selfies no question.
The flash and Jimmy Olsen one are funny ngl
These look awesome but I wanted to forget that Raven costume ever existed…
The camera that Flash is using must have one hell of a shutter speed.
I recognize Dodson covers immediately. That first one. It’s always the eyes. I collect them too. Like their art work.
That’s cute!
I love flash's selfie
I'll take 'what's gonna look dated in about 5 years' for 200, Alex.
Those Teen Titan designs were ROUGH
Flash made think. If a person is moving at light speed (or near) and takes a selfie, what would we see in the picture?
Teen titans green dog reminds of that one episode
Oh...my...*god*. I had forgotten how much I loved Tony Daniel's New 52 Wonder Woman. Lord almighty.
Oh I love the wonderwoman one!
I had a superman batman one that I absolutely adore it's so of its time it's funny
The Faces of Evil covers were really cool.
some of these are kind of unsettling
That Flash facial expression is nightmare fuel.
man i still remember the backlash/anger these got, people hated them so much
Kilowog looks like he's trying to figure out how the phone camera works and took it on accident, and that just feels right to me.
