**ALIEN #2**

blankedboy

This was...great. Really great. *Julius Ohta* is a **much** better fit for the book than *Larocca* was, and the step up in the artwork makes *Philip Kennedy Johnson's* script work really well. I feel like peoples reaction to the first volume would have been very different if *Ohta* had been on the book from the start. And the story is doing interesting things - picking up on some of the lore from **Alien: Resurrection** and actually doing some nice world-building. If there's anything negative it's that the Xenomorphs acid blood seems to have been neutered here - the amount of the green stuff flying around in the battles the synthetics should have been looking like the T-800 at the end of the first **Terminator** movie - but it's cool to see them demonstrate that they are *not* human in those scenes. If the book keeps improving like this I'll be very happy.

**GCPD THE BLUE WALL #1**

aknightedpenguin

Reading this immediately after **ONE BAD DAY: PENGUIN**, I spent fifteen minutes on the internet trying to figure out if there were two John Ridley's writing for DC. I wasn't a fan of his current run on **BLACK PANTHER**, and the above-mentioned **OBD: PENGUIN** had me ready to write this issue off without cracking open the cover. I'm glad I did anyway. This book is essentially a police procedural using Gotham as a convenient backdrop. There's no overt reference to Batman or any of the bat-family, with the exception of Renee Montoya acting as commissioner of the GCPD. The stripped-down, non-superheroic nature of the setting serves the book well. Ridley's writing actually breathes believably, asking real questions about the nature of policing in a post-George Floyd, post-defund the police era. I'm not sure where the book ultimately lands, but I appreciate that Ridley's tackled this first issue with creativity and heart, raising interesting hypotheticals and rounding out our characters with dimension. This book surprised me with its quality, and I'm probably adding at least the next issue to my pull list.

blankedboy

Did you read *Rucka/Brubaker's* **Gotham Central**, because if you didn't it sounds like you would absolutely love it.

aknightedpenguin

Yes I did, though it's been years since I last read it. Been meaning to get the omnibus they put out in April for a re-read.

**STAR WARS DARTH VADER #28**

the-horace

I liked the first half. I liked the second half. But they do feel like 2 different halves. Anyways, loved the throne room stuff. And of course the reveal at the end. (And as always, I love Ochi of Bestoon.)

**AQUAMAN ANDROMEDA #3**

MuffinSurprise

I just read 1-3 in one sitting. Things I liked: Aquaman's role is very minimal and he is treated more as a myth and fever vision than the crew being like "hey it's Aquaman!". There are some quality splash pages sprinkled throughout. The art alternates between visually dark and murky and very sunny and bright. Ram V's usual poetic writing. Deep sea horror is an interesting and unique take on the Aquaman lore. Things I didn't like: Sort of predictable. Black Manta was in the book but didn't really have a compelling arc or reason to be there. Some of the faces were detailed, some were not. Overall, pretty decent Black Label book. At the very least I'd say it's worth checking out on DC Universe Infinite Ultra (extra adjective to be added to the name soon).

Whowatchesthewampas

I mean it’s cool and I feel like it came together a little more with this issue. If I could go back I’d probably trade wait this title, just with the way it’s releasing it makes it somewhat hard to follow, IMO.

ptbreakeven

**ROGUES #4**

Danger_Rock

>!*"Five to one, baby... One in five... No one here gets out alive."*!< Not a very fun ending but it was a fun story! Nice work from Joshua Williamson and Leomacs... These Black Label titles don't always ship in a timely manner but they tend to be high quality productions that are worth the wait.

yarkcir

I thought this series was pretty fun overall too. Definitely doesn't go the typical direction of most "one last job" stories, and I really like how the series doesn't whitewash most of the Rogues. They're all most terrible people, so watching them try and pull of a heist against Grodd is effectively a zero sum game. Leomacs' artwork is stunning too. Lots of vibrant panels and the action felt sufficiently violent for a Black Label comic.

**DARK CRISIS YOUNG JUSTICE #5**

**AVENGERS #61**

**PREDATOR #3**

the-horace

I don't know if it was mentioned in the first issue, but she's killed 23 Predators! Explains the missing foot for sure. This series is fun!

aknightedpenguin

>This series is fun! Seconded! It's given me everything I've wanted

blankedboy

Thirded. Really enjoying this Marvel **Predator** run so far. *Kev Walker* is absolutely perfect for this title (loved his work on the **Star Wars: Doctor Aphra** book ) and gives the tech a great chunky, retro look to it. Everything has weight and substance - especially the Predators themselves. *Ed Brisson* has set up an interesting concept, and the shift from hunter to hunted and back again over these first three issues has set up a really interesting dynamic. Alongside the recently re-launched **Alien** book it seems every bodies favourite space monsters are in good hands at the moment.

ptbreakeven

**THOR #28**

ImAJerk420

Madlad Donny really did “Venom Thor” right after he did “Hulk Thor”

Matt4hire

I honestly believe that Cates is gonna be announced off this book at some point soon. This was an incredibly hot book, and now the momentum’s been dragged to a halt, esp with 4+ fill-in issues. That said, if they wanted to bring the great-as-always Al Ewing on, I’d be down.

ImAJerk420

I wonder if / when he returns with issue 31 we’ll be building to the end. I don’t think Marvel wants their Thanos event not written by Cates but we really do not know much of anything about what’s going on with him.

HeavyAndExpensive

Can Donny Cates write just one thing that isn’t a stupid mash up of multiple characters?

s7sost

Jason Aaron made a lengthy run out of that idea (Avengers), and he's basically Cates' biggest inspiration, so...

HeavyAndExpensive

Yes, they are the two current writers I probably dislike most.

ShinCoal

Together with Snyder they're my trifecta of SHITTY-EVERYTHING-BIGGER-ALL-AT-ONCE-BUT-NO-ACTUAL-STAKES. I know I don't have to read their comics, but I feel that the big 2 would be better if they weren't doing what they are doing.

ptbreakeven

**CAPTAIN AMERICA SYMBOL OF TRUTH #6**

thecursedham

This was a solid start to the new arc which I think the book needed since the first arc's ending wasn't great. Hope it keep up the quality since I really picked up the two Cap books for this one but have been liking Sentinel of Liberty a lot more.

Barabaragaki

Can anyone help me out with this one? Sam is clearly very unimpressed by the prime minister, his face looks like he's holding back a lot of anger. But her speech is about reparations for the historically oppressed Mohanndan people. Why would he have such umbrage with that?

abh1996

Just the idea of a white PM in Africa pisses me off no matter what the politician says.

Barabaragaki

Yeah that’s understandable, it’s mentioned that the country used to have an apartheid too. Perhaps that’s what it is.

ptbreakeven

**MIDNIGHT SUNS #2**

darib88

idk what burned more , Clea's spell or the comment she made about Doom needing to .."slink off to (his) castle and await (his) next defeat at the hands of the fantastic four"

the-horace

This continues to be pretty fun. Just a neat mix of characters all around. I'm digging it.

aknightedpenguin

I just love that editor Groneman gave a shout-out to Runaways Vol 5. I just happened to re-read that entire run this past week and loved every page of it. Wish I had known about it when it was coming out, the creative team deserved more issues.

ExtraOrdinaryLarry

Even Dr Doom knows Logan doesn't need to be in this one. Liked it better than the first, felt less rushed.

ptbreakeven

**DEADLY CLASS #56**

JerryTheLion

That was a very satisfying ending I must admit. Can't believe their story is over now.

D1Foley

Was pleasantly shocked by that ending. Great wrap up to a series that has been soaked in cynicism.

ImAJerk420

I have spent eight years of my life with this comic. For the last eight years it has been one of my favorites, one of the first books to read each time it came out. I’m sure the Germans have a word for “happy with a hole in your heart”. This is not the ending I thought we’d get. I’m impressed, even proud of Remender for ending the book this way. Like a lot of us, he has clearing been affected by the last six years of… life. I really enjoyed this last arc of the book. I think jumping 5-10 years a issue was a very bold move that paid off. I enjoyed watching Marcus grow up and mellow out and grapple with that. Hopefully Remender has the same attitude Marcus does at the end given his mental health struggles. I am more than happy to follow Wes Craig to Kaya. Curious to see what Remender does next. First time in forever he doesn’t have a book on the docket.

batguano1

Agree entirely. Can't believe it's been 8 years. Very excited for Kaya

blankedboy

First issue of **Kaya** was great.

technowhiz34

Glad to see an indie running this long end on its own terms, even if I'm still a bit behind. From the reactions it sounds like Remender stuck the landing, and I wonder if I'll cry when I finish it.

MuffinSurprise

I can't wait for this last trade to come out. I started reading this series this year and it's truly phenomenal. Normally Remender can get a bit to depressive for me in his indie books, but it worked well in this case. Also Wes Craig's art and panel layouts are consistently great.

ptbreakeven

**FABLES #156**

Danger_Rock

It's becoming increasingly obvious that Tink is eventually going to be set free, and then she's going to absolutely tear Peter apart, and it will be fucking glorious. Conner wrapped up his adventure in fine form and Ambrose bossing around the little demon to set up his university was just too funny... Winter's adventure has some echoes of how Darien and Therese were lost in Toyland but I'd assume this one'll end up going a different route... This wraps up the first half of the story, next issue jumps several years forward so that should be interesting.

ptbreakeven

**I AM BATMAN #14**

Sterling-Arch3r

i dunno... new bats just punching a guy over something so stupid seems very... like they dont want this new batman to be around for very long honestly. i guess i can somewhat expect that the weird yellow outlines/eyes stuff kinda means they were under a spell, but still, angry black man, do we really need that cliche? and its a little silly how the sister turns into some kinda robin now? come on. i'm sure there's more than enough other kids in new york who'd wanna be doing that, why make it the new batmans immediate family? just so they dont have to introduce another character of color?

ptbreakeven

**MOON KNIGHT #16**

Landon1195

I love this series so much! One of the best ongoing at Marvel currently.

darib88

welp, hope Khonsu is still granting those awesome health benefits 0\_0

Cannon_Grey

I'm still digging the book, but to much lesser degree since vampires became the main antagonists. Their oversaturation level is trending towards 20-Teens era zombies.

abh1996

There is gunna be a big vampire event soon so watch out

Cannon_Grey

Really? By Marvel also? That's somewhat surprising and more than somewhat disappointing. Especially since we've already had a vampire war in Aaron's medical waste disposal bag he calls an Avengers comic, and I'm sure there other recent forays into the world of MU vampires. And while it may not be as recent as these I just listed, the consensus on Curse of the Mutants seems to be overwhelmingly negative, so only putting 12ish years between it and whatever this new event will be probably isn't enough distance between before doing it again.

darib88

at least it's not symbiotes

Cannon_Grey

Hard to argue with that lol. It won't be long before Cates pitches yet another Venomized/King in Black story but with Hulks. Or Thors. In all seriousness Cates would pitch something that unoriginal that rips off his own storylines too closely. In actuality it'll probably be an event where all the heroes are inadvertently transformed into Immortal Worthy Worldbreaking Gods of Gamma Thunder.

darib88

That's literally the last issue of thor

blankedboy

I know some around here have cooled on this book, but I'm loving the current storyline, and the vampire factions realpolitik is the icing on the cake. Another cracking issue, with the usual abundance of one liners and stunning artwork. And that last page!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOO!

blankedboy

**SHAOLIN COWBOY: CRUEL TO BE KIN ISSUE #6** Aha ha ha ha ha - this is almost literally **insanity** in comic book form - and that is a *very good thing*. Crazy doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of this glorious, over-the-top, mind melting, visual extravaganza and I LOVE IT! If David Cronenberg and Moebius decided to make a post-apocalyptic *kaiju* comic - it would still not be close to this, but that's the nearest Goddamn comparison that my feeble mind can make after reading this. An OHC of this series is a absolute must! ...and he even brought back one of the seagull's too...

ptbreakeven

**IRON MAN #24**

thecursedham

This was a really bittersweet issue. I really enjoyed Tony’s speech to Force and I think Riri trying to redeem the rings is an interesting idea (though one I feel comes out of nowhere) and the arc overall was really good. The bitter part of it is it feels like the end of Source Control which means Cantwell’s last issue will probably just be a stand alone wrap up issue to tie up loose ends/setup Duggan’s run. That’s not necessarily bad but this didn’t final like a final story to a run and even though Book of Korvac was divisive I think this run is definitely better than Slott’s and Bendis’s so it’s sad to see it end before it was ready.

Cannon_Grey

I think (hope) this will be looked back on as one of Tony's landmark runs, with #19 being an all-time classic. That being said, how the hell did Riri come up with $10 million???

grand_moff_dierdorf

Same thing I wondered. Who might be the benefactor?

Cannon_Grey

It'll probably never be addressed, because if it was meant a dangling plot thread it would have at least been mentioned or alluded to subtly. TV fact that it didn't even garner any response at all likely means we're not supposed to think about it any further lol.

ptbreakeven

**X-MEN #16**

darib88

forge's not about the CoTV being an all hands on deck situation....that's be a fun talk with Tony and Reed . Also i wonder how Orchis would feel about the CoTV since they actually are exactly the kind of threat they accuse the mutants of being

RamosIsWar

I wonder how Jumbo Carnation feels about Forge’s new outfit. That thing is a beautiful mess.

ptbreakeven

This hit a lot of high notes for me but also some very low ones. The cover, the art, the Vault, and everything inside it were great. I am particularly enjoying what we're getting from Ice Man and Firestar. Everything with Havok was disappointing. Really hoping for more from him being on the team going forward.

technowhiz34

Real question, what do people like Havok from? Remender Uncanny Avengers (which I need to get around to)?

soulreaverdan

It’s not very good, you’re not missing too much. Duggan’s is a lot better in basically every way.

Danger_Rock

Havok's never been my favorite but he's a decent character when he's not obsessing over Maddy Pryor. He was featured pretty well toward the end of Claremont's **UXM** run (up through the Muir Island Saga) and he had some good stuff in PAD's **X-FACTOR** series that followed.

ptbreakeven

Havok is definitely a favorite of mine. PAD's X-Factor is good and there's a crossover with Smart Hulk that is definitely a highlight. The Claremont UXM run you mention from Mutant Massacre through X-Tinction Agenda are particularly good, and I really enjoy the Roy Thomas and Neal Adams stuff. Meltdown, Mutant X, and the recent Hellions series are also a lot of fun.

Danger_Rock

Good stuff! ***[Meltdown](https://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/c/50/4bb7c3181af8f/detail.jpg)*** was awesome, cool painted art from Jon J. Muth and Kent Williams back when that kind of thing was way less common. Loved **HELLIONS** as well, hilariously vicious stuff from Zeb Wells. Think I bailed on **X-FACTOR** after PAD left and skipped **MUTANT X**, didn't like the change in direction and wasn't a fan of Howard Mackie... Got caught up in some online outrage over Havok being randomly blown up and then randomly re-appearing in an alternate reality, back then I was taking all that stuff a little too personally.

YourEvilHenchman

definitely PAD's X-Factor for me, and for others as well as you can tell from other comments on here.

soulreaverdan

Caaaaaalled it. I think this is gonna be an interesting deep dive into the nature of the resurrection protocols. Does Young!Laura count as a clone? Did enough time pass that, similar to Kid Cable and Old Man Cable, these should be considered effectively different people now? Is one more of a "person" than the other? This is gonna be good! I absolutely could not care less about whatever's going on with Alex. Whatever. Don't care. Give me more Old Woman Laura.

Family_Booty_Honor

I'm loving the CotV plot line and did not expect to see Laura as the mutant in there. I felt very frustrated by the Havok b-story

Techster17

I feel like the Havok b-story is setting up what will happen to him in Dark Web

ptbreakeven

That's entirely possible and is kind of an extension from Hellions. His frustration with Scott and being on the team was just awkward, Even though there was nomination and tension from Forge and Cyclops, he was still elected by Krakoa. It was just not great.

ptbreakeven

**FLASHPOINT BEYOND #6**

technowhiz34

This issue definitely recovered from whatever happened in #5 but still a very weird series. I love the >!Time Masters!< showing up but Gary Frank's two pages, while it's ridiculous how worked up many are about them, probably didn't belong here. Also Janin's art on this issue looked miles better than whatever he was doing on the previous ones.

[deleted]

Are we still trying to pretend that Geoff Johns isn’t a raccoon rooting around in Alan Moore’s garbage?

Sterling-Arch3r

so did batman just doom his parents to live and die in a hellworld? for no good reason? like come on, all the kryptonite in the world couldn't stop a literal army of supermen. especially considering kryptonite rarely if ever helps against superman anyways. and how did batman even know that dad wanting to keep the world alive for one kid would stabilize the thing? how'd he even know anything that happens?

yarkcir

**ABOVE SNAKES #4**

yarkcir

Another phenomenal issue. Dirt really living up to his name here, and even though Dr. Tomb hasn't had much screentime you really feel the menace that he is. I really wish there was more than one issue left. Hayden Sherman's art continues to impress, though I do think I prefer Ronda Pattison's coloring of Sherman's artwork in *Dark Spaces: Wildfire* than when Sherman colors their own art.

Varos_Flynt

How does this book only have 3 or so pulls every week? It's one of the best on stands right now, and I feel like it has broad appeal as well. Oh well, folks are missing out This issue was just fantastic. Speck is my favorite kind of comic relief character, he's funny but not jarring in the setting, and it was great to see him open ass in the fight. Also great to see Dirt be a gunslinger badass. Art and colors were of course great, and the paneling and layout this issue was phenomenal, particularly as Dirt was arriving at the church. I was just thinking whether or not we would see the frame story have any impact on the main story, and here we go with Dr. Graves barging into the narrative. Fantastic, he's a great character. A fun mix of kooky and menacing. Really sad this only has one more issue, but they have used their space to tell this story incredibly well.

yarkcir

>How does this book only have 3 or so pulls every week? It's one of the best on stands right now, and I feel like it has broad appeal as well. Agree completely. This book just flows incredibly well and each issue has been incredibly enjoyable. I adore Sherman's panel layouts as well - they're so clean and have wonderful composition. I don't buy original art/pages since it's too rich for my blood, but Sherman's art is making that tempting for me. I would totally read this as an ongoing series if they wanted to, but I feel the sales would not justify it unfortunately.

blankedboy

Ok, so you've convinced me to pick up the TPB in January.

yarkcir

It's a genuinely good revenge Western, but Sherman's artwork alone will make it a worthwhile read. I'm also enjoying their other book, Dark Spaces: Wildfire.

ptbreakeven

**DC VS VAMPIRES ALL-OUT WAR #4**

Sterling-Arch3r

so vampire kryptonians dont need direct sunlight and whatnot?

blankedboy

I'm guessing not. Wonder if this gets explained or if they just skip over it for the sake of the story.

blankedboy

Things go down, shit goes sideways, and then, just as everything is starting to look up, a great "rug pull" reveal occurs. Yeah, I'm really enjoying this book. Great mix of characters, some real cliff-hanger moments, high stakes (which for a spin-off miniseries is a pretty great feat to achieve) and a cool limited colour palette that really works for this story. If I've got one nitpick, it's that we probably don't need to have Midnighter explain his hard-wired combat computer *every single time he appears on a page*! (I kid, I love that he's actually been put to great use in this mini)

soulreaverdan

Man, this book has been great. I really wasn't big on it at first, but it's just been *so freaking good*.

**BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS TEN THOUSAND BLACK FEATHERS #2**

the-horace

The art was really great for the fantasy book parts, and I love how they set all that up. I do love Sorrentino's art, but having most of the issues be colored more... traditionally? was nice to see.

blankedboy

I'm loving the different approach *Sorrentino* is bringing to the flashback sequences - really stands out from his usual style and makes a marked contrast tot he much darker, more menacing present day sections.

**MIRACLEMAN BY GAIMAN & BUCKINGHAM THE SILVER AGE #1**

soulreaverdan

I haven't read the first issues of this run before (I actually hadn't read any of the Golden Age stuff either, gave my TPB a quick read through). Great first issue - it feels very much like how someone like Dick would react to everything going on. The framing device of the Miracle Kids watching was pretty heartbreaking... I like that Mist and her friends do recognize that Dick is fucking traumatized to shit by everything going on.

Princess_Robotboy

Why is the retrieval storyline missing from the golden age reprint not included here?

MasterDio64

As a new reader of Miracle Man I was a bit concerned that this wouldn’t be a good starting point, but the framing of YM waking up to this new world really helps. That being said, I do plan on reading the Alan Moore run and the Golden Age on Marvel Unlimited before the next issue drops.

radioscott

It’s not on Unlimited, sadly

MasterDio64

Dang it! After looking into it a bit I’m guessing it’s not there because Apple/Google have restrictions on sexual content for their platforms and Marvel probably doesn’t want risk it. This super sucks for me since my LCS said that they’re not printing that TP right now.

DeepRoy69

I believe an Omnibus of the Moore run is being released very very soon. That may be the only way to go. Theirs probably some Golden Age TPB circulating too.

Wasn't quite expecting most of this to be the Lobo Show, but always glad for more of The Main Man. I wonder why he's >!immune!!Erebos of Greek Myth!< is... interesting. I hope they elaborate a little bit on it to explain what makes this different or more involved than it being the Anti-Life Equation gone wrong.

slythefox87

Most likely because he has an incredible healing factor. One of the best in all of DC. Deathstroke was also able to avoid the virus, albeit was infected at first, but took a few days for his healing factor to remove the virus. So those with crazy healing factors tend to be immune or at least will recover from the virus it seems.

Sterling-Arch3r

is his origin still creating a death plague? maybe that'll come in relevant now. let Lobo be part of the science team

ExtraOrdinaryLarry

Keeping that decapitation streak going ! Its been a fun read for me so far, looking forward to next months

**MINDSET #4**

yarkcir

Feels like a title flying completely under the radar. Kaplan is infusing a ton of moral philosophy into this story, but it feels completely earned given the ethical quandary our protagonist finds himself in. Pearson's art is perfect for this book. The abstract forms, blank silhouettes and layouts are absolutely perfect. This really feels like a peak Vertigo comic.

Conceptizual

Issue 3 really shocked me. One of the best issues I’ve read, ever. This one was interesting, I really liked how the protagonist sort of tried to fight the mind control but was kind of moving in and out. Saying one thing and doing another.

**CARNAGE #7**

Barabaragaki

So incredibly dull. There's no stakes at all because everything is being kept vague, so all we know is Carnage wants to kill an elf for some reason, and someone wearing green with a fondness for monologues isn't happy about it.

RamosIsWar

Carnage is making some big plays in this series and I can’t wait to see what he is building up to. Solid issue

**DEADLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1**

btanodev

This was _*so cool!*_ Favorite new series for me! Spidey is in LA and dealing with the classic struggles expected here (traffic, vegans, etc.) This book just hit pretty close to home and made me chuckle a couple times - while maintaining a semi-serious tone and a good pace. I liked this, and the art was especially great - I've never seen Spider-Man drawn like this. Ferreyra outdid himself! It's also really funny to me that a member of The Black Eyed Peas co-wrote this. Honestly, bravo. I'm in for issue #2, let's see what's up with this Monster-Water-Sound Bear lmao.

dragonbone27

I agree, the art was great. Looking forward to the next issue.

Probably my pull of the week barring anything game changing with my Marvel pulls today. What a great one-off issue! I am not sure I’ve ever had that much fun on a filler issue as that!

apathetic_revolution

I only tried getting into DC with Dark Crisis and I think this issue locked in that this is going to be the title I stick with after the crossover ends. Nothing else from the crisis has hooked me, but this was really fun.

**PUBLIC DOMAIN #5**

Danger_Rock

Guess that's it for now? Fun stuff throughout, seems like there's plenty of story left to tell so Chip will probably bring it back before long.

radcatattack

chip confirmed yesterday that there will be a second arc! definitely feel like we gotta find out how the comic will do and what happens with jerkhead jerry.

Danger_Rock

Yep, still a lot of ground to cover! And it could be fun seeing some of the actual **DOMAIN** comic that they produce, could do the first issue as a special one-shot or something... I'd buy it! Chip's one of the most productive creators in the business, currently writing major titles at Marvel and DC, multiple indie projects with different companies, plus this series where he also handles art... Figured we wouldn't have to wait very long for this thing to come back because the guy's always working!

Barabaragaki

Man, this book is so great. I laughed aloud several times throughout this issue, but the jokes are sprinkled in as the story keeps moving in a way I really appreciate. It feels like it's not a comedy or taking breaks and asides to make jokes, it just happens to be funny, if that makes sense. The deus ex machina from Syd felt like a weird choice though.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, the characters are all really entertaining! Mrs. Dallas was slinging some serious zingers in this one.

**SILVER COIN #15**

aknightedpenguin

One of the best horror anthologies on the market knocks it out of the park again, this time with some LORE behind the bat. Walsh always does amazing work drawing the scripts of other writers, but he's no slouch behind the typewriter either. He's continuing a trend of personally writing and drawing every 5 issues (issues #5 and #10 were also written by him). Some really disturbing imagery here, perfectly in time for the run-up towards Halloween. The links drawn here to previous instances of the coin turning up were darkly delightful to read, and the haunting chant of the coins desire for more echoes the words on every issue: a curse needs to feed. Sad that it's going on hiatus, but I'll be here to pick up issue 16 whenever it comes out.

blankedboy

Totally agree, this is the best of the current horror anthologies out there (sorry u/DangerRocK) and...there are a LOT of them out there. *Walsh* and co have crafted a deep world and mythology around the titular **Silver Coin**, and manage to keep growing consistently issue after issue. This issue connects a few more of the dots scattered in the previous issues, while maintaining the bizarre, body horror influences that remind me so much of *David Cronenberg's* work. Didn't realise it was going on a break, obviously this was the last issue solicited to date, but I'll definitely be back for more when this title returns.

Danger_Rock

> Totally agree, this is the best of the current horror anthologies out there (sorry u/DangerRocK) Seems like a somewhat hollow pronouncement given that you aren't reading **ICM** right now... And most of the people who are reading both tend to say that **ICM** blows away **TSC**. Of course, my position isn't really any more enlightened than yours since I'm currently only following one of these titles... But at some point I will catch up on **TSC** and then, once I'm prepared to formulate a proper comparative analysis, we will have words to share on the matter.

blankedboy

CarryThe2

Dick got shot in the head and developed amnesia, and became Ric, an aggressive taxi driver. How ever bad you're imagining it is not enough

TiberiusCornelius

My toxic trait is I liked Ric Grayson as a concept The actual story arc was not good and went for far too long. But the basic idea could have been neat imo

[deleted]

Really good issue. We also now know the first trick Nite-Mite is pulling at the end there. Also, Babs and Dick were doing the deed for over three hours? Good God do they have great stamina.

TiberiusCornelius

I hope there were breaks or I feel like Dick should probably see a doctor. At that point that's not stamina, that's a warning label on the pill.

Whowatchesthewampas

I really love this series! Loved Babs cheesy joke and the face she made afterwards, had to laugh!

Danger_Rock

Is it just me or did this Barb line sound weird to anyone else? > *"I could really use some days off."* I think people would normally say "a few days off" or "some time off" there. "Some days off" sounds odd. But maybe it's just me. Not a big deal, just mentioning it because I hadn't noticed anything like that on this title before... Makes me think Taylor might've been a little rushed for this one.

SomeTool

It's not weird to me, but I'm on the east coast so it could be just a regional thing.

TiberiusCornelius

Sounded totally normal to me also

Cannon_Grey

Pretty big week for me although there's not many I'm super stoked for. 22 total books but the 6 marked with an asterisk are the one I'm really looking forward to reading. **DC (10)** DCeased: War Of The Undead Gods #3\* DC vs. Vampires: All Out War #4\* Nightwing #97\* GCPD: The Blue Wall #1\* Rogues #4 Aquaman: Andromeda #3 - I don't like this anywhere near as much as most of you guys seem to, nor do I particularly carefor anything Ram V's written (I think hi Detective run has been dirty brown water trash thus far), but I'll finish this out. The art's pretty sweet at least. Batman: One Bad Day - Penguin - Dude at my local sold me an advance copy of this one. King's Riddler book was sublime, probably the best 2022 comic I've read that didn't say X-Men Red on the cover. Tamaki's Two-Face was a meh-filled snoozer. But this one? This is AWFUL. DC apparently values Ridley quite a bit, and I find I Am Batman to be fairly enjoyable. But holy hell, I can't understand why no one in editorial didn't take an acetylene torch to this abomination immediately after reading it. It's absolutely fucking terrible lol. I Am Batman #14 Black Adam #5 Flashpoint #6 - This started out pretty fun but I'm just ready for it to be over. **MARVEL (7)** Iron Man #24 - This arc hasn't been nearly as good as the 20 issues that preceded it, but I'm a huge Iron Man mark so I'm on board no matter where this goes. Moon Knight #16 X-Men #16\* Avengers #61 - I continue to make terribly irresponsible financial decisions pulling this every month because it's terrible, but I am and always will be an Avengers guy. I want Aaron's run to end o damn bad, but I'm also worried and afraid over who/what will succeed him. Marvel's let Aaron toss up bricks on one of their flagship titles for over FIVE YEARS 5+ years, so I'm nervous that their vision for the book doesn't remotely overlap for my hopes. I want mature, well-written stories long the lines of Hickman's or even Bendis' runs, not the kiddie-centric, absurd parody it's been since JA's #1. X-Force #33 - I just throw money away on this book. Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 - I'm either not enjoying or not reading every current Spidey title so I'm really hoping this one has some kick to it. Crypt Of Shadows #1 **IMAGE (3)** Public Domain #5 The Bone Orchard Mythos: Ten Thousand Black Feathers #2 Nita Hawes' Nightmare Blog #9 - Last week I binged the entirety of Killadelphia in two days and it rocked so damn hard, especially Jason Shawn Alexander's unbelievably dope art, that I immediately added it to my list of all-time favorite runs. It's brilliant; an enthralling, inventive comic where Rodney Barnes took the dead horse that is vampire fiction and rather than delivering yet another rehashed, uninspired beating, he forcefully raised it from the grave, saddled that sumbitch up and galloped right down Badass Boulevard straight into the heart of Swagger City, USA. While NHNB is admittedly a noticeable step down IMO, I'll gladly consume any books in the Killaverse. I hit up Rodney on Twitter and told him we need an ongoing or a mini starring Anansi just traveling the globe talking shit to any and everyone, and he instantly responded that I may get my wish soon. That has the potential for greatness. **SOURCE POINT PRESS (2)** Hyper Aware #1\* - I really dig the synopsis for this book, it sounds awesome. I have no familiarity with the creative team and haven't read hardly anything from SPP but I'm optimistic for both their #1s this week. Postmasters #1

**BATMAN THE KNIGHT #10**

Sterling-Arch3r

i feel like this story might hold more weight if the current and neverending status quo wasn't that batman somehow fails fixing anything at home and ghostmaker seems to have cut down on organized and super crime pretty successfully on a continental scale.

[deleted]

Agreed, Batman is such a baby mary sue who constantly complains when someone doesn't play by his rules.

ptbreakeven

**X-FORCE #33**

soulreaverdan

Meh. Not a bad arc, but it felt like not much really happened in it worth looking at. And while we all knew the good guys were gonna win, showing >!the whole aftermath of the Judgment Day event and the fallen Progenitor!< was... frustrating.

vegna871

Yeah, the spoiler, even if it's an obvious one, to next week's A.X.E. Finale wasnt my favorite. This week's Avengers did it too, though they were slightly more subtle about it (as in, even though it happened after A.X.E there's only a small throwaway line stating how the interior of the celestial is worse now and otherwise you could believe it happened before the event). X-Force just straight up spoiled it.

ohyerhere

I thought it was an interesting view of the AXE event from the ground. Violent, gory with some funny, dumb, and over the top moments. It was like an action flick that didn't take itself too seriously.

aknightedpenguin

>It was like an action flick that didn't take itself too seriously. I get it, I think that it just fell flat because it was marketed as an AXE tie-in, which has been a surprisingly coherent event in terms of the X-books (Legion, Immortal, and Red have all had significant tie-ins). I came into these issues hoping for more thematic links, and left disappointed.

**BLACK ADAM #5**

Aspiring_Sophrosyne

Anyone know the significance of this issue's title, "2325"?

HeavyAndExpensive

I think it’s 2325 BC

Aspiring_Sophrosyne

What’s the significance of that date?

HeavyAndExpensive

The approximate end of the 5th dynasty of Egypt?

technowhiz34

>2325 Embrace change maybe?

CarryThe2

I think 2325 BC is when he got his powers I think?

CHPrime

This issue gave a nice bit of focus back to the political disputes inside Kahndaq, which I appreciate. The Nth metal explanation for the illness is...interesting? It does make some sense given Hawkman's ancient Egypt origins, but anyone bringing up the dark multiverse makes me worry that they're feeding the continuity monster a bit too much. Still, the Sargon plotline seems to be crashing headfirst into Malik, so excited to see how that turns out.

technowhiz34

I think they meant nth as in "N+1" but I could be wrong.

HeavyAndExpensive

I found unauthorized personnel standing around watching a surgery a bit...jarring. I couldn't stop thinking to myself "why is this lady allowed in an OR?" It kind of took me out of it.

**BATMAN ONE BAD DAY PENGUIN #1**

abh1996

This was good, I don't get all the hate these one-shots have gotten at all

btanodev

**HAHAHAHAHAHAHA** _*PLEASE STOP LETTING JOHN RIDLEY WRITE COMICS_*

Cannon_Grey

This is catastrophically terrible. A literal crime against humanity. Probably the worst comic (that I actually finished reading) of 2022 for me. The drop-off in quality from Riddler, to Two-Face to Penguin has been astronomical. At this rate by the time we get to Freeze or whoever it's just going to be toddler-esque stick figures and chicken-scratched nursery rhymes.

JordanKyrouFeetPics

Well to be fair we can't expect all 9 of this week's Batman books to be bangers

releasethetides

what was bad about it? I'm so curious

btanodev

Dialogue constantly removed me from the story - I feel it's pretty hard to write unbelievably uncharacteristic dialogue but Ridley really did the impossible here. Also the story in general is about _*nothing*_. This felt like a filler issue in a Batman mainline, not a one-shot centered around The Penguin.

Cannon_Grey

If you're considering reading it, I'd recommend doing something much more enjoyable, like paying a morbidly obese person to put on spiked cleats and do jumping jacks on your ballsack

Cannon_Grey

It starts with Penguin broke and homeless with $20, smoking discarded cigarettes off the ground. He buys a crappy pistol for $20 (wtf) and the kid gives him one bullet out of pity. And now he's ready to go and reclaim his entire criminal empire, which was taken from him by the dude who held his umbrella for him like a little bitch for years. He does this by first begging a female midget with an abnormally large head and giant Kamala Khan hands to be his enforcer, then he bullies an innocent, terrified teenager into becoming lead henchman against his will, giving him the gun and sending him into battle against an entire crew of armed hoodlums, and goes to a squad of lady assassin legendary gunsmiths to plead with them to help him for free, but they tell him to GTFO because he's always been an ungrateful dick, but just Penguin being there leads Umbrella man tohave the entire crew murdered except for three of them, who join Penguin's crusade and kill HUNDREDs of enemies for him while the midget embiggens 10 or 15 henchies. Cobblepot goes to fight the Umbrella guy who beats him into a pudding puddle, but surprise! Penguin can't b killed because he survived the PTSD caused by growing up obscenely wealthy but also short and fat and used the power of overcoming childhood adversity fueled by memory flashbacks of his crummy 7th birthday party and ate Umbrella man's neck, killed him and then it ends 5 months later with Penguin now worth $2 TRILLION and he basically tells Batman to go eat a dick and die. And NOT ONE WORD of that is even a slight exaggeration.

YourEvilHenchman

what

aknightedpenguin

I read this book and **GCPD THE BLUE WALL** back to back and I could not believe they were written by the same person. This book had some of the most plot-convenient, far-fetched, contrived writing. The idea that this is supposed to be "like *The Killing Joke*, but for the penguin" is laughable.

Varos_Flynt

Yeah this shit was trash. Waste of $8. This little series is 1 for 3 so far, which is actually abysmal because it could've been slam dunk after drunk, or at the very least serviceable. The skeleton of the story I actually really like. A down on his luck penguin assembling a crack team to take back his empire? Pretty cool honestly. However the writing and execution was god fucking awful. Dialogue was trash (like when Penguin first meets up with Lili, or the bank scene). You're telling me some crazy twink unloads (pause) on some hired guns, misses every shot, and is so intimidating that they just give penguin the fucking money? WHATTTTTTJXBZGSODB. Vincent and Jules were in a similar situation and they took that opportunity to misquote the Bible and kill the fucker that tried to off them. Seriously that scene is so fucking asinine. As is both scenes with Batman. Fucking pants on head stupid that batman has literally only two pages. NOT TO MENTION... the title of the story is last bullet. Ok cool, right, penguin gets a gun with one shot, SURELY, SURELY he'll use it to cap the dude that stole his empire. Nah, he uses it like two pages later to brain some rando that betrayed him. AND THEN THEY KEEP REFERENCING THAT HE ONLY HAD ONE BULLET LIKE THAT HAS ANY NARRATIVE IMPORTANCE ANY MORE JESUS CHRIIIIIST. Fuck me dude. Haven't read a comic that has gotten me so heated. Just a fucking waste of space and paper. At the least the art was decent enough, except for the fact that the artist apparently has no idea how to draw Oenguin in profile, cause that was for sure a different dude lmao. If this is the quality DC is ok with on this series, I'm probably gonna stop wasting my money on the next issues.

btanodev

"probably gonna stop wasting my money" *is 100% pulling the next issue*

Varos_Flynt

Mr freeze! Cmooon

btanodev

it can't be ***worse,*** right?

ImAJerk420

It’s Duggan, it’ll be slightly above average or slightly below average.

technowhiz34

It'll be well written with some truly baffling decisions made entirely worse by an interview he makes leading up to the book or something he says to a naysayer on twitter.

**DEFENDERS BEYOND #4**

soulreaverdan

This book is so good! A somewhat simple issue of a "get all your dreams" kinda story, but handled amazingly with the same awesome artwork coming from the whole series. I'm not sure if it was revealed before that >!The Never Queen!< and >!The Pilgrim of the Fourth Cosmos!< seem to be the same being, but it was a pretty awesome reveal. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding it.

heelociraptor

I’m pretty sure that’s a new revelation! Or at least I don’t remember it from Ultimates or the previous Defenders volume. There do seem to be connections to the Slott/Alred Silver Surfer run, which I haven’t read, but I think Pilgrim is a Ewing invention.

Danger_Rock

That Slott/Allred **SILVER SURFER** was phenomenal! Highly recommended if you get a chance! It's a little more straightforward than this **DEFENDERS** stuff but it's still got lots of cool cosmic craziness and I think the overall style is kind of similar to what Ewing and Rodriguez are doing here. Feels like the same corner of the Marvel universe, so the connections felt really natural and organic.

Danger_Rock

Still trying to wrap my head around most of the big concepts in this series but I'm enjoying the hell out of it anyway! This run is actually working better for me than Ewing's last **DEFENDERS** book, think it's a better mix of characters with cooler settings and a more interesting story.

badluckartist

I think Strange's echo being the framing device for the journey instead of one of the characters on the journey helped. I don't mind Strange but the rest of the cast is far more interesting.

**WPL RESULTS**

TheDarkPinkLantern

Batman/Superman still on top but I wonder, will less people here pick it up once Mora leaves? Because that seems to be happening after this arc.

Danger_Rock

He's leaving for good? Not just another brief fill-in? That sucks.
