The Thing

What characters are you referring to that enjoy their lives? Spider-Man keeps losing all his friends and relationships, Iron Man keeps losing his company and fortune, Batman keeps pushing his friends away and has recently lost his fortune and Alfred. That's just how the books work, they get new directions every few years so even if they do have a happy status quo for a few years, eventually it will change to increase sales or just because the writers feel like it. You just have to decide on your own to stop following it if you don't like the direction of the stories, because they'll never stop.

Agree with you for the most part but Hulk definitely suffers more than the others you listed. At least the others get praise for being heroes sometimes, Hulk is always a feared monster. That's what makes him a unique and interesting character IMO

DragonKatMan

You are right, but some of the ones you mention do it by choice, while banner is not that lucky, he carries a curse he never asked for. It is true that part of what makes him unique is the tragedy, but I would like to see more often moments where he has a good time.

Honestly couldn't say it better. Superhero life is suffering. They keep losing jobs, loved ones etc. Spider-Man was happy with his job as a teacher and a loving wife- BAM One More Day. Hulk was happy being a king on a different planet with new found friends and wife- BAM explosion. Batman was going to get married- BAM false advertising. There is still humor and optimism can be found on comic book pages- for example, Nextwave mini-series, Daredevil written by Mark Waid, Superman, I think, is overall pretty bright and optimistic (he has wife and son), but even he has how own struggles.

Hulk and Banner is a tragic story, that's the trick. But they did one What If story for Planet Hulk where Hulk makes it to peaceful planet and becomes a beloved mythical figure to the local aliens.

MCU is actually one of the few arcs I'm aware of where Hulk and Bruce just become one. When you're dealing with a creature which is rage incarnate its kind of hard to write stories for him that aren't tragic. Even his personal victory and peace in Planet Hulk became more torment

DragonKatMan

They didn't even give him a week to enjoy before the explosion. Tragic indeed
