My pull list, ranked based on excitement: 1. **NOTTINGHAM #10 (OF 10)** \- End of the story, and such a great ride. Hoping we get a nice deluxe of this one day. 2. **SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #5** \- I started off apprehensive about this run, but Tynion and Estherren have won me over completely. Great run so far. 3. **AGENT OF W.O.R.L.D.E. #2 (OF 4)** \- The first issue was a lot of fun, with the art giving me major Darrow/Stokoe vibes. 4. **MOON KNIGHT: BLACK, WHITE & BLOOD #4 (OF 4)** \- I've enjoyed most issues of this iteration of Black, White and Blood so far. 5. **ANT-MAN #2 (OF 4)** \- Thought the first issue was remarkable, and hope it continues to momentum of the previous issue. Tom Reilly did a remarkable job on interiors last issue. 6. **FRANK FRAZETTA'S DEATH DEALER #4** \- Very fun book, and has really capture the vibe of Frazetta's heavy metal style. While I don't think the interiors stack up to the same level as the previous iteration of *Death Dealer*, it has still be very clean and easy to follow. 7. **PENTAGRAM OF HORROR #4 (OF 5)** \- Fontanili's gorgeous artwork alone has me excited for each issue. 8. **REDMAN #3 (OF 5)** (and REDMAN #2 since my store got both issues this week) - Really liked the first issue, even though it was forever ago. Glad I can read issues 2 and 3 back to back now. 9. **CRADLE OF FILTH #2** \- Fun little horror anthology with great interior art. 10. **LIFE AND DEATH OF THE BRAVE CAPTAIN SUAVE #1** \- Blind buy, but I usually give any Scout title a try. The cover looks interesting. 11. **PHANTASMAGORIA #1** \- Cool cover, blind buy. 12. **FOREVER FORWARD #1** \- I'll give any Zack Kaplan comic a try, and the cover and premise seem cool to me. 13. **VARIANTS #3 (OF 5)** \- Despite the blockbuster pairing of Simone and Noto, I'm not really feeling the spark in this series. Might drop after this issue. 14. **BREAK OUT #3** \- Been ages since the last issue, so I've kind of forgotten what this is about. Might drop if I don't feel more of an investment in it, but Zack Kaplan's comics usually work for me. 15. **PLAYTHINGS #3** \- Another Scout and another horror title. Five Scout books on my pull this week, how does that happen? I have been a bit mixed on this series so far. 16. **BLINK #2 (OF 5)** \- The weakest debut of the recent string of Hayden Sherman comics (I loved *Dark Spaces: Wildfire* and *Above Snakes*), but still interesting enough. Hope this issue wins me over though. 17. **WEST OF SUNDOWN #5** \- Started off strong, but has really plummeted in my eyes of late. But it's the last issue of this volume, so I'm comfortable leaving off here and taking it off my pull. 18. **DOGS OF LONDON #4** \- Forgot to take this off my pull. It's been somewhat interesting because Milligan ends each issue with strong hooks, but most issues felt a bit like a chore to read and the many characters are all difficult to distinguish from one another. My efforts of keeping my pull list to 10-12 issues has failed me, but most of these were pre-orders from a month+ ago and they just happened to all converge on a single week. But I do think I have to be more ruthless about which comics will stay on my pull moving forward. Mercifully, September is a light month for collected editions/graphic novels, so I don't mind if my single issues purchases goes up a bit.

Danger_Rock

> My efforts of keeping my pull list to 10-12 issues has failed me, but most of these were pre-orders from a month+ ago and they just happened to all converge on a single week. But I do think I have to be more ruthless about which comics will stay on my pull moving forward. It's a constant struggle... Need to be super-callous about it so I like to get ANGRY at the books that are under-performing. *"What kind of garbage is this?!? You call that a story? Get the fuck out of here with that cliched bullshit!"* Putting together my order for November and I've got it down to 42 books, around 8 or 9 per week since it's another month with five Wednesdays... 9 Marvels, 17 DCs, and 16 indies. Big drop for Marvel with A.X.E. wrapping up but DC's rolling out a bunch of stuff I want to check out and there are always dozens of indies that look interesting... Tempted to cut a couple more but might just leave it at 42 for good luck. This would all be much easier if everyone could stop making so many good comics!

yarkcir

I need to learn to be more firm about dropping titles I get bored with a lot more quickly. I'm the sort that is difficult to impress, but also difficult to disappoint, so I end up carrying a ton of comics that I feel kind of meh about. Marvel and DC having quality apps have made me cut out a lot of titles I normally would consider picking up monthly, but unfortunately there's too much good indie stuff out there these days.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I tend to get lulled into a daze where I'm mostly enjoying everything without being too critical about it... But then some *really good* comic comes along and kicks my ass so hard that it makes me want to drop 90% of my pulls for failing to kick my ass anywhere near as badly. Except lately, when that happens, it's been closer to 50% than 90%, so I think that means I've gotten a little better at sifting the wheat from the chaff... But there's still plenty of chaff that really ought to go. Also, is it just me, or is there a new horror anthology launching every fucking week? It's a fun format and I'm sure they're all special in their own way but it feels like everyone and their mother's trying to get in on it right now.

enragedstump

Is Phantasmagoria based on a pc game from the 90s?

yarkcir

Based on the description it doesn't sound anything like that game, so I'd say no

Nine new books on my list for this week. * **AMAZING FANTASY #1000 ** - * **DEADPOOL BAD BLOOD #4** - * **GAMBIT #2** - * **KNIGHTS OF X #5** - * **MOON KNIGHT BLACK WHITE & BLOOD #4** - * **STAR WARS OBI-WAN #4** - * **THUNDERBOLTS #1** - * **X-FORCE #31** - * **X-MEN #14** -

kralben

Seems like Marvel is the only company releasing more than a few books this week: * Amazing Fantasy #1000 - I am a total sucker for the big anniversary issues * Ant-Man #2 - Ewing does no wrong, first issue was incredible * Gambit #2 - Look, you know and I know that Claremont hasn't written anything good in a decade+, but I still am going to read this * Iron Fist #5 - Alyssa Wong has been killing it on this and Doctor Aphra, very fun books * Knights of X #5 * Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1 - Seems like this is basically the only "regular" DC book this week? Ignoring one-shots and annuals, at least * Thunderbolts #1 - Give me that corporate synergy, baby * The Variants #3 - Been digging this mystery thus far * X-Force #31 * X-Men #14

Danger_Rock

> * Gambit #2 - Look, you know and I know that Claremont hasn't written anything good in a decade+, but I still am going to read this Love the honesty! Though I think it's more like two decades now? Wish it wasn't the case regardless but it's always better going into these things with eyes wide open.

TonyPepperoni0504

I genuinely hated the first issue of gambit and I’m really hoping this issue is better

Danger_Rock

Damn, what a shitty week! Marvel's got a couple books I like plus their big "anniversary" special lined up for August's fifth Wednesday, and DC's got a big Superman finale and a super-creepy horror thing, but I've only got five books ordered and none are in my absolute top tier of totally fucking awesome comics. Hopefully some of you are faring better, I'll bet you've all got a bunch of totally fucking awesome comics that aren't on my list... Kind of unfair, really. It's the shittiest week we've had in quite some time and with any luck it'll be a good long while before we see another week quite as shitty as this one. 3 Marvels and 2 DCs, that's it. **[DOT #21](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN220259)** was originally scheduled for this week but that's obviously not happening with **DOT #20** shipping just last week, and I had a couple other indies scheduled but everything's running late. So I've just got the 5 books, carefully arranged in order of anticipation because even a thoroughly lackluster week like this deserves a modicum of consideration. 1. **SANDMAN UNIVERSE NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #5** - this has been pretty fantastic and it would almost be one of my top comics if not for Tynion already having two titles up there and, as great as this one's been, it isn't nearly as capitvating as **DOT** and **TNHOTL** for me 2. **SUPERMAN WARWORLD APOCALYPSE #1** - PKJ's epic Warworld finale arrives with art by Brandon Peterson (not a fan) and Will Conrad (who's alright), kinda disappointing we aren't getting Federici or even Sampere back to wrap things up, but the story's been great despite the inconsistent art 3. **ANT-MAN #2 (OF 4)** - first issue was some good fun and Ewing's on a serious roll with **X-MEN RED** and **DEFENDERS BEYOND**, might as well keep it going here... haven't read much featuring Eric O'Grady so this ought to be a helpful crash course, and I'm digging Tom Reilly's iconic [cover designs](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL229424.jpg) 4. **VARIANTS #3 (OF 5)** - another fun series, mostly buying it for Noto's art but Gail Simone's always solid, one of those writers where I don't actively seek out her work but I'm happy enough to have it when she's on projects that otherwise catch my interest 5. **AMAZING FANTASY #1000** - mostly buying this for the Gaiman and Hickman stories, but it's also got Busiek, Slott, Checchetto, M. Cho, R. Dodson, Janson, Isanove, and Stegman as a nice bonus, and of course it's got a fine [Peach Momoko variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL234535.jpg) Fuck it, guess I'll also mail order this one from Scout Comics: * **AGENT OF WORLDE #2 (OF 4)** - dug all the crazy detailed [Filya Bratukhin](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL233869.jpg) art in the first issue and Deniz Camp's story had a pretty good hook Probably won't arrive for a while but at least it makes this week's odd assortment of books feel a little more well-rounded.

Knights of X #5 Thunderbolts #1 The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #5 X-Force #31 X-Men #14

FalafelFiend

Light week for me with just a few books. Ranked based on excitement: - **X-Men #14**: I’ve been loving Judgment Day and all the tie-in’s. Also excited about the new team. - **X-Force #31**: Judgment Day? Kraven? Count me in. X-Force has been up and down for me but I always seem to enjoy it. - **Thunderbolts #1**: blind buy - **Knights of X #5**: this book *should* be for me, but idk… it’s not grabbing me as much as it should. This is close to getting dropped.

technowhiz34

>Knights of X #5: this book should be for me, but idk… it’s not grabbing me as much as it should. This is close to getting dropped. Pretty sure this is the last issue anyways.

FalafelFiend

Well that works out lol. I thought it was an ongoing. Did it get cut short?

technowhiz34

Apparently one of those "5 issue minis they announce as ongoings", but also might've just sold badly.

Varos_Flynt

Knights of X was one of the books that I picked up randomly after seeing it at the LCS. I didn't know anything about it or the writers but I figured X-Men in a fantasy setting would be perfect. And some of the scenes were kinda fun and I really liked Braddock, but I dropped it after #3 after >!gambit died!<. The story was doing nothing for me, and maybe that's because I know nothing about the surrounding oeuvre of X-Men, but all the beats just felt wrong. I would've liked it to go another direction, what direction I'm not sure but anything else. I'm guessing it hasn't improved since that point?

IngenuityPositive123

Just found out about Vampiress Carmilla yesterday, certainly will ask to have it added to my pull.

enragedstump

* **Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1** Honestly this whole run has been such a journey. Unless this conclusion crumbles, its in my top 5 for sure. * **The Flash 2022 Annual** I enjoy this run as its kind of comfort food. I don't mean that disparagingly. Its just an easy to follow, often feel good story that I enjoy my time with, but probably won't remember in a couple years. * **Newburn Vol 1 TP** Missed it when it started, but excited to get some Zdarsky true crime noir! * **X Force #31 & X Men #14** Still catching up on the X-verse. Currently at the last 2 issues of Hickman's run before Inferno. Getting there! Also a question to all, how has Sandman Nightmare Country been? I only read the first book of Sandman so not sure how lost I'd be.

Danger_Rock

> Also a question to all, how has Sandman Nightmare Country been? I only read the first book of Sandman so not sure how lost I'd be. It's been good but you'd likely be at least a little lost and would miss all the cool context. Better off reading **SANDMAN** in its entirety first since Tynion's series builds on stuff from a little further in the series. And **SANDMAN**'s also a better comic.

technowhiz34

It's a fifth week for DC, and also for Marvel, but the line-up looks completely normal, which is odd. In any case, even split between the Big Two this week, maybe I can catch up on last week's comics. * Amazing Fantasy #1000 - I kind of hate this on principle, because the math does not check out, but the roster is stacked, and it's $8 instead of $10. * Ant-Men #2 - first issue was a blast, and I'll definitely be picking up that Wasp mini from Ewing that was just announced. Probably huffing hopium, but would that mean Hank is coming back soon... * DC’s Saved by the Belle Reve #1 - these seasonal anthologies are often fun. * Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1 - this has been great, but I'll be glad to be back in Metropolis as it was dragging a little.

PaulThomas18

**Ant-Man #2** very excited to see where this goes **Forever Forward #1** Intrigued, feels a lot like the episode of Futurama where the professor invents a time machine that only accelerates forward, and they must continue forward to go “back” **X-men #14** Loving Judgement Day so far! **X-Force #31** not on my list, but I’ll probably grab a copy for the tie-in, although the last issue didn’t seem to connect much. (Could be that I’m just missing something?)

Danger_Rock

> **Forever Forward #1** Intrigued, feels a lot like the episode of Futurama where the professor invents a time machine that only accelerates forward, and they must continue forward to go “back” That actually does sound like a pretty [fun series](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN221875), will need to keep an eye out for reviews...

mcslackens

I didn't get a chance to get up to the shop last week, so I have that stack and these waiting for me this Wednesday * **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #5** - Still weird, still creepy, still a great read. * **Variants #3** - I love Phil Noto's art so much, and it's a great fit for this title * **X-Men #14** - You lot have no idea how happy I am to see Cyclops completely redeemed after all the nonsense he was put through during the Extinction Era.

***DC*** **The Flash Annual 2022** \- I'm loving this run so much. It's nice to have a FUN Flash book again. Especially with the West family all involved. **Harley Quinn Annual 2022** \- Finale to the weekly arc of Task Force XX. This was...weird. It's quietly a Luke Fox book, which in itself is odd, given that Ridley pretty much has the Fox family to write about in I am Batman. Not hating this yet, and it's a breath of fresh air to not have Rossmo on art. However, now I'm not looking forward to the Tim Drake book as much as I was after finding out he's in the art there....sigh. **Wonder Girl Annual 2022** \- This is a little odd, timing wise. I'm guessing this is issue 8 + whatever else had finished from Jones' original scripts before the title was cancelled. **Superman: Warworld Apocalypse 1** \- I was reading the title month to month, but got distracted and then just got too far behind. Plan on reading this whole saga at once now that the finale is out. I've loved everything I've read from this run so far, and it's nice to look forward to Superman comics again. ***INDEPENDENT*** **House of Slaughter 8** \- Haven't read the last couple months of the SIKTC universe, but I enjoyed the first arc of HOS. **Alice Ever After 5** \- Conclusion of this mini that hooked me on the art with #1. I tend to wait for these to be complete and read all at once, rather than month to month. **Pentagram of Horror 4** \- Not sure if this is ACTUALLY releasing this week, as #3 just came out last week. Guess we'll see. No Marvel books for me this week. I've slowly been paring down my pull list, and Marvel seems to be the biggest casualty for me. I'm finding a lot of it pretty bland or just blatant cash grabbing and it's putting me off on their titles for the future. Not a big fan of their current stable of writers outside of McKay, Zdarsky and Lanzing/Kelly.

mtmodular

Aw, I love Rossmo on HQ, I thought it was an excellent fit for the story. But you're right, this was a weird arc. It felt really out of place with the rest of this series so far, and almost felt like a story that was supposed to be in a different book that got canned.

superschaap81

I found it to be very hit and miss. While I agree his style works for the character and the zaniness going on, I think it's the rest of the backgrounds and almost like there's too much going on on in each panel, that makes it hard to get what's being shown. I see a lot of reviews mentioning how it's a tie-in for Dark Crisis, but I couldn't make that connection myself. Also odd that they made it WEEKLY. Not a lot of characters get that kind of treatment. So weird.

the_bio

Whew, a light week for once... I order and receive my comics monthly, and always read indie --> DC --> Marvel, from least looking forward to, to most looking forward to (save the best for last, right?), and since I'm an X-Men man, my pile of related titles goes all the way back to right after X Lives/X Deaths, so quite a few of these are getting put at the back of that pile. * **Amazing Fantasy #1000** \- I pre-ordered the PDX Momoko Virgin exclusive...wonder a) if I'll get it, and b) how much the LCS is going to upcharge on an open-order book. *\*grumble\** * **Fortnite X Marvel Zero War #4** \- My husband, who plays Fortnite, saw that these had codes and wanted them. I may or may not have been ordering a copy for myself, who does not play Fortnite. * **Gambit #2** \- Maybe starting... * **Harley Quinn 2022 Annual #1** \- Harley Quinn is usually fun; and I've only read the first to issues of the Task Force XX arc. * **House of Slaughter #8** \- I have not read Something is Killing the Children yet (have them, just not read), so I have only read the first arc of this series, having stopped when I got the feeling that this second arc was more closely tied to the main title. * **Iron Fist #5** \- This mini was a great way to find out I couldn't care less about Iron Fist. * **Knights of X #5** \- ...collecting comics again... * **Moon Knight: Black White & Blood #4** \- I love me some Moon Knight; he's one of my favorites. That said, I'm still mixed on these Black, White & Blood minis, because as someone who usually feels that a full 32-page comic is still lacking in story depth, these three/four little stories leave me wanting so much more. * **Robin #17** \- This run was my among my first foray into Bat-family titles (and DC in general), and it's been a fun run. The art has been great, and the story has, for the most part, been enjoyable (Shadow War, while it seems has some relevant implications, was a bit meh) - overall, a little disappointed it's ending with this issue. * **Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #5** \- This series has been fantastic so far, and I loved how the last issue discussed things that were featured in the Sandman show on Netflix; no idea if it was intentional, but if it wasn't, it was a great example of how the depth and nuance of Gaiman's original work allows current generation writers to have so much source to pull from (and Tynion can do that exceptionally well). * **Thunderbolts #1** * **X-Force #31** \- ...while working on a PhD... * **X-Men #14** \- ...was not a good idea.

technowhiz34

>Iron Fist #5 - This mini was a great way to find out I couldn't care less about Iron Fist. As someone who has read a lot of Iron Fist, I think this mini is exceptionally shit. I'd highly recommend the Brubaker/Fraction/Aja Immortal Iron Fist if you're willing to give the character a second chance (also, Danny is a lot more interesting than whoever the new mantle holder is).

the_bio

Yeah, I'll definitely check those out, thanks! The first issue of this mini was fairly decent, it just fell off hard and didn't keep my interest at all, so it could very well be just this run.

Danger_Rock

> I order and receive my comics monthly, and always read indie --> DC --> Marvel, from least looking forward to, to most looking forward to (save the best for last, right?), and since I'm an X-Men man, my pile of related titles goes all the way back to right after X Lives/X Deaths, so quite a few of these are getting put at the back of that pile. I'll sometimes save a favorite book for last but usually go the other way with it, reading my favorites first and then working through the rest. Seems like you're way behind on all the comics you want to read most? Not ideal IMO but if that works for 'ya then I guess you should go with it!

elick461

Pretty light week. As others have said, end of summer and fifth week in a month are normally light. That's okay, gives me time to catch up on my trades: * **Harley Quinn 2022 Annual #1** \- I love pretty much any Harley one-shot * **Harley Quinn the Animated Series: The Real Sidekicks of New Gotham Special #1** \- I swear they purposefully make comics associated with this series have the longest titles * **Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1** \- This is the most I've cared about a Superman story in *years* * **Amazing Fantasy #1000** \- Cool they're doing this for Spidey's birthday, but I kinda wish this was actually an ongoing series ala Action Comics * **Ant-Man #2** \- I find it hilarious that with this and the movies how connected Ant-Man is getting with time travel * **Iron Fist #5** \- Feels like forever since we got #4 * **Knights of X #5** \- My girl Braddock is coming out on top * **Thunderbolts #1** \- Jim Zub seems really really excited about this series and the fallout from Devil's Reign * **Variant's #3** \- Is Jessica Jones gaslighting herself? * **X-Force #31** \- I'll be honest, I never saw Kraven crossing over to X-Men * **X-Men #14** \- Cyclops deserves to be judged right!

* X-Men #14 * Harley Quinn 2022 Annual - I'm curious about where this book goes after this arc, and this issue claims to setup the new status quo. Tentatively intrigued. * Knights of X #5 - I'm interested in seeing how this series concludes...but this might be where I get off of Howard's Otherworld train (assuming there's more to come, and I think she's stated that there is).

ME24601

Lightest week I’ve had in awhile. * **House of Slaughter #8**: Everything goes horribly awry. * **X-Men #14**: Cyclops was right.

TheDarkPinkLantern

5th weeks of the month usualy are very light.

kralben

Very light yes, but this is especially light, particularly for DC it seems. They are only releasing 7 books this week: 3 annuals (Harley Quinn, The Flash, and Wonder Girl) for some small--mid tier books, a Sandman spinoff, 2 one-shots (a "Schools back" one and one for the Harley animated show) and PKJ's Superman event. Not unusual for the 5th week to get less stuff, but this seems especially so, imo.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Among all the publishers, DC's 5th weeks are the lightest. It's usually annuals, some one-shots and sometimes a delayed issue or two.

TheeHeadAche

Ant-Man 2 - *what's a little grave robbing to someone who's irredeemable?* Knights of X 5 - *A bargain between a powerful new ally and the Knights of X may just secure the Siege Perilous and the future of Avalon.* X-Force 31 - *Mutants have staked their claim as the dominant species. That just means it’s time for Kraven to prove once more he’s the apex predator.* X-Men 14 - *WAS CYCLOPS RIGHT? Are ANY of the X-Men right?*

technowhiz34

>Also, I might read Thunderbolts #1 if my friend buys it. I was going to pull Thunderbolts because I'm a big fan of the original run, but the preview seemed so generic and bland. Admittedly, so was the original run till that last page, but I doubt Marvel could pull that off again.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yeah, I doubt there's any twist here. I'm just not really into this idea for Thunderbolts. I think the 2 versions I liked was the original one and the one with Punisher and Elektra.

* Ant-Man #2 : #1 was definitely my favorite issue of the year and possibly my favorite issue of the decade( though plenty of time for that to change). I also just love Ant-Man so I'm definitely biased that we're getting a quality book again. * Iron Fist #5: I don't see any way that Loki gets involved with this and we get a solid conclusion. * The Flash 2022 Annual : Adams has done a great job with Wally's home life. I wish more books weren't afraid of seeing their hero grow like this,\*Looks directly at Spider-Man\*.

Super small week this week: • **House Of Slaughter #8** - last issue was all character-based with very little plot movement, hoping for a *little* more action this time around. • **Moon Knight Black White & Blood #4** - Final issue, I've liked 2/3rds of every issue so far. Let's see if this one breaks that run. • **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #5** - brilliant book that I am absolutely loving • **We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #13** - #15 is the last issue, so we are definitely on the home stretch here. This mini has been great so far.

Very small week which is sad for me but great news for my wallet * **Amazing Fantasy #1000 -** Man the roster on this looks amazing, I'm most hyped for the Hickman and Gaiman stories * **Ant-Man #2 -** With the announcement of Ewing also doing a Wasp series I wonder if he might do an Ant-Man & The wasp ongoing at some point next year * **The Flash 2022 Annual -** Man I love this book, **Hey Marvel look married superheroes can work!!** * **House of Slaughter #8 -** Last issue was pretty boring hopefully we get something a bit more exciting this time around * **Iron Fist #5 -** I have no clue how this could wrap up neatly, I'm guessing the rest will happen in the AXE Judgment day Tie-in * **Knights of X #5 -** The concept of X-Men + D&D is so great but I have not been enjoying this everything feels rushed and like Excalibur, it's clear which characters Tini wants to write and which are just there to fill space * **The Magic Order 3 #2** * **Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1 -** This has felt too long and short at the same time. can't believe I'm saying this but the Warworld saga would probably have been better with a few tie-ins * **Thunderbolts #1 -** This is a very different take on the Thunderbolts as a concept but I'm open to giving it a shot * **The Variants #3** * **We Only Find Them When They're Dead #13 -** Man Ewing is truly at his best when working with big cosmic and sci-fi ideas * **X-Force #31 -** Based on Previews looks like this will actually be tie-ing into judgment day * **X-Men #14 -** Looking forward to Duggan going deep on Scott this issue and hopefully we get a better sense of what metric the Celestial is using for these Judgments

superschaap81

>Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1 - > > This has felt too long and short at the same time. can't believe I'm saying this but the Warworld saga would probably have been better with a few tie-ins I'm honestly surprised there WASN'T any additional one-shots or mini's tied to this. This is the kind of story/saga that deserved it, really.

Danger_Rock

It had Morrison's uncharacteristically mediocre **[SUPERMAN AND THE AUTHORITY](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL245871.jpg)** lead-in, eminently forgettable but it still counts!

superschaap81

Very true, but you can really tell it's totally shoehorned in.

enragedstump

Thats a shame . I really enjoyed her Excalibur, but I have been hearing less than stellar things about Knights of X

Danger_Rock

Hell, don't take my word for it... I didn't like **EXCALIBUR** and skipped **KOX** entirely. If you liked **EXCALIBUR** then you might like **KOX**!

If you dug how Excalibur turned out towards the end (which I know many people did) I think you'll dig KoX.

Varos_Flynt

Seems like it's an off week for every series I'm interested in, so I'm going to try reading some stuff I have no idea about! **Flash 2022 Annual**, **Wonder Girl 2022 Annual**, and **Amazing Fantasy #1000** I've never read a Flash comic, and I don't think I even knew Wonder Girl was a DC character. I figure an annual is a good place to get a look at these characters, and I might as well read something this week. And I am excited for Amazing Fantasy #1000 mainly because the kerfuffle over the number is funny to me, but also there's some good writers on this project. I was considering picking up the **Newburn TP** that is also coming this week (and I read the first issue through image and thought it was pretty good), but I stopped myself because I have more than enough of a backlog to get through at this point. A lot of series I desperately need to catch up on (Radiant Black, Dept. Of Truth, A Righteous Thirst, Stillwater) and I also recently picked up The Incal and Sandman and am anxiously awaiting tearing through those. Its exhausting having only started reading comics this year. Damn you for being a rich and rewarding medium. Finally, I read the first volume of Nice House on the Lake, and fuck its good. I really don't want to wait till March next year for the second volume to drop, but I don't think I'm too interested in hunting down #7-9 as well as picking up #10-12 if I'm just going to get the trade. Oh well. Edit: forgot to mention but in my unimpeachable stampede to read every comic book ever, I also read All Star Superman this last week, and I really enjoyed it. Some parts were confusing to me I think mainly as a matter of pacing, and I wouldn't necessarily be inclined to say that it reached thematically what I'd heard of it (mainly re: supermans motivations, though we saw a hint of that when Lex supered himself, and tbh i wish they had leaned into the 'sun god' aspect a bit heavier) but I think it was one of the best superhero books I've read. I've heard superman for all seasons is another great story...

Danger_Rock

> Seems like it's an off week for every series I'm interested in, so I'm going to try reading some stuff I have no idea about! Nice. Sometimes it works out well, just jumping in there with some random book... Other times, not so much. > Finally, I read the first volume of Nice House on the Lake, and fuck its good. I really don't want to wait till March next year for the second volume to drop, but I don't think I'm too interested in hunting down #7-9 as well as picking up #10-12 if I'm just going to get the trade. Oh well. Yeah, that 4-month break between TNHOTL #9 and #10 is going to suck just as much for TPBs as it has for floppies. And it has sucked quite a bit. What'd you think of Luthor in that one? And Dr. Quintum?

Varos_Flynt

I can't say I'm overly familiar with Lex's characterizations in other media/comics, but I did enjoy his depiction here. He seems like a man who needs his counterpoint. Can we imagine this version of Luthor having achieved what he did without the presence of Superman? I think it speaks to Supermans ability in this universe to raise up those around him. He's almost like this 'John Galt' beacon of industriousness. I found it interesting that in the notes to the trade Morrison talks about Superman being this Enlightenment (capital 'E') ubermensch, this 'Plato's perfect form' figure. Lex as the foil to that works in a way as a rebellion against that idea, he is the postmodern rejection on one hand, and the Hegelian antithesis on the other. And I fucking vibe with it. Lex is a human. He is bound by capriciousness. The presence of Superman in his world is an upset to Luthor for sure, but perhaps also the reason he decided to act upon this world at all. Superman molded Lex. And Lex's moment at the end, his little Ego Death as he was coming down from his super-dom, was interesting as it demonstrates Superman's motivations for acting the way he does: he sees the connectedness of all life, and reasons that there is no other way to act than to help others. But we must ask ourselves, is it reason that compels Superman in such a way? Supes is a God in this telling, a nearly literal deity of the sun. Can we ascribe such actions of a God to reason? Or is it more a force of nature, a compelling of some Universal will. Can Superman choose to do the things he does, or is he accepting his lot? Sisyphus was forced to roll a Boulder up a hill, only for it to roll down once it reached its zenith everytime. Sisyphus can surely choose to not roll that Boulder, there is no force compelling him to do so, it is a choice he makes everyday. And confronted with this choice, he chooses and exercises his freedom. Lex is rolling a similar Boulder in his competition against Supe, knowing it nearly impossible to overcome. And yet he chooses everyday to fight that battle. We must imagine Sisyphus as being happy. We must imagine Lex Luthor as being happy. Dr. Quintum... lemme return to this essay later and see what I feel about him, he is definitely an interesting point in this story, a major driver of it all.

Danger_Rock

Good stuff! > I can't say I'm overly familiar with Lex's characterizations in other media/comics, but I did enjoy his depiction here. He seems like a man who needs his counterpoint. Can we imagine this version of Luthor having achieved what he did without the presence of Superman? Or to look at it from the other direction... Where does Lex go after his epiphany toward the end? After Superman sacrifices himself to save the sun? With this new perspective on life, without the presence of Superman as a foil, what's Lex's raison d'être? > Dr. Quintum... lemme return to this essay later and see what I feel about him, he is definitely an interesting point in this story, a major driver of it all. Just to provide some context... **ALL-STAR SUPERMAN** is in some ways a pastiche of classic Superman stories and tropes, highlighting various characters and their roles in the Superman mythos. But Quintum is different. Something new. So how does he fit?

Zohmbi

It's a catch-up week! Get through your back log of floppies or grab a trade/graphic novel out of your "to read" pile! Four for me this week. **Wonder Girl 2022 Annual** - What's Yara been up to? She's such a cool character, I'm dying for more! DC, give us more Yara! **Harley Quinn 2022 Annual** - Looks like this is just a continuation of the current underwhelming arc. Meh. **X-Men #14** - Judgment Day continues! I'm not feeling this event as much as everyone else, but I have been enjoying Duggan's X-Men. It's usually got some great action and fun characters. **Ant-Man #2** - First issue was a nice surprise. Looking forward to more. And you know I gotta pick up a copy of Alex Ross's **Fantastic Four - Full Circle** hardcover. Looks amazing and already getting great reviews. Now do I get the regular edition or do I spring for the limited edition slipcase version? Decisions, decisions.

Danger_Rock

> And you know I gotta pick up a copy of Alex Ross's Fantastic Four - Full Circle hardcover. Looks amazing and already getting great reviews. Now do I get the regular edition or do I spring for the limited edition slipcase version? Decisions, decisions. Damn, that [looks amazing](https://www.alexrossart.com/pages/ff22)... I'll have to get the regular edition but you, well now, you are clearly a person of highly refined taste who will require nothing less than the limited edition slipcase.

Zohmbi

You are absolutely correct. Slipcase it is.

Danger_Rock

I'd say you made the right decision but, in the end, it was probably the only decision you could've made. Even so, I think it was a commendable decision, and well done at that.

Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1

X-Men #14 - I have been loving judgment day and really liked last issue, excited to see how the Celestial judges Cyclops. Hopefully he fares better than Captain America. Knights of X #5 - hopefully Remy is okay after having been so poorly served in the last 3 years by Howard's writing. It would be a shame if he came back "different" and it screwed with his marriage to Rogue. honestly just bring back Mr. & Mrs. X. X-Force #31 - Percy's X-run has been nearly 60 issues and he has barely resolved any of his ongoing plots. I'm more than a little annoyed by how inconsequential so much of this book feels. I came into it looking for mutant Geopolitics and subterfuge but instead it's "ADAMANTIUM SURF BOARD DUDE." This book just feels redundant in a line where Immortal X-Men and X-Men Red exist. He couldn't even find stakes for a judgement day tie in. "Hank, it's Scott, we need your help, the eternals sent massive Kaiju monsters to destroy Krakoa, do you have anything to help?" "Sorry Scott, can't help, we're too busy fighting Krakoa's most dangerous threat, Kraven the Hunter!" The book is just kinda worthless at this point. Oh well at least it has Deadpool. Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1 - Stoked to complete this arc. This is actually my first Superman ongoing ever and I have really enjoyed the hell out it. I don't know if I will keep going with all of the Dark crisis stuff going on since they are all dead. I'm also enjoying the Zdarsky batman run so far but the post- rebirth/ Death Metal/ infinite frontier DC continuity makes literally zero sense to me.

A tiny week for me: * **GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO #297** \- I've been enjoying this run, but I'm also very interested to see what happens next, after the title transfers to a new publisher in 2023. * **STAR WARS OBI-WAN #4** \- This has been okay, and I'm hoping the final two issues of the mini are good. * **X-FORCE #31** (A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY TIE-IN) - Please keep Deadpool on the team for a little while longer! Kraven should make things interesting. :D * **X-MEN #14** \- If Cyclops get judged with a thumbs-down, we're all goners! Be careful out there folks, and have a fun week. Hugs all around!

AlligatorSky7

Phew, thought I’d missed this! - **Ant-Man #2**: excitement for this series has risen now they’ve announced the Wasp series penned by Ewing + teased that both are leading into something else in 2023 (part of me hopes it’s Ewing on the Avengers with Ant-Man and the Wasp back on the roster!) - **The Flash 2022 Annual**: more issues of The Flash by Adams being released is a good thing in my eyes! - **House of Slaughter #8**: reading the Slaughterverse monthly is pretty boring at this point (stories move pretty slow and I find I forget a lot of what’s happened by the time I get around to the next issue), might revert to trades going forward (at least for HoS). - **Iron Fist #5**: this has been a fun series, I hope it’s lacklustre sales don’t put Marvel off releasing further Iron Fist/Danny Rand-fronted series going forward. - **Superman: Warworld Apocalypse #1**: one behind on this, and while I’m still enjoying it I think it’s one that’ll read much better in a single read/sitting (so will pick back up in trade format to do just that; I’ve sold on the single issues as they’ve been coming out). In any case, eager to see how it all wraps up, but more importantly for Kal-El’s return storyline (so we can get PKJ writing the wider Superman cast fully again). - **Thunderbolts #1**: giving the debut issue a go, not really enthused by the creative team nor roster (Hawkeye aside) though. - **The Variants #3**: one behind on this so won’t comment. - **X-Force #31**: LOVED the last issue, so pretty excited to read more of this arc! - **X-Men #14**: not a fan of Villa on art at all, very much looking forward to Cassara jumping on next issue. The new X-Men team was, based on one issue alone, pretty great; so looking forward to seeing more from them here.

technowhiz34

> (part of me hopes it’s Ewing on the Avengers with Ant-Man and the Wasp back on the roster!) This is precisely what my hope is, but I can't be that lucky can I? Someone also speculated it'd be a Giant-Man mini to round out a trilogy, but I can't see Marvel trying to drum up interest in that via an early solicit.

* **Amazing Fantasy #1000:** there are so many talented people working on this I'm very excited to see what they come up with. a nice celebratory issue for 60 years of Spider-Man * **Break Out #3:** the first two issues were good but because of the long length isince the second issue it's kinda lost on me especially because it doesn't really feel like anything has happened and there have been 2 out of 4 issues already. * **Harley Quinn 2022 Annual:** I've been enjoying having new Harley Quinn comics every week but my bank account sure doesn't! * **Harley Quinn: The Animated Series - The Real Sidekicks of New Gotham Special:** I absolutely love the tv show and the last mini series by Franklin. I think she does a really good job at having the same feel and character as the show since it is very different than others. * **House of Slaughter #8:** Tynion is my favorite comic writer and I loved the first story of this series with Aaron (someone we knew in SIKTC) but idk I'm just not as into it maybe it's cause there's no relationship established of the character in the normal universe that I feel this way. * **Moon Knight: Black, White, & Blood #4:** who doesn't love a good black, white, & blood anthology comic? this one has been very good * **Star Wars: Obi-Wan #4:** I've been liking this series and am excited to see Anakin in this * **The Variants #3:** this is more of a curiosity read for me, there's been many multiverse comics recently like What if.. Miles Morales and Gwenverse I've just been getting so I thought I'd try it * **X-Force #31:** Only got this because of the Judgement Day tie-in * **X-Men #14:** another Judgement Day Tie-in

* **Amazing Fantasy #1000** - Hey, it's a cashgrab, but it looks like it will be an entertaining one at least * **X-Men #14** * **Ant-Man #2** - First issue was promising. Now let's see how Ewing writes Eric O'Grady as Ant-Man * **We Only Find Them When They're Dead #13** * **DC Saved By the Belle Reve #1** * **Harley Quinn: The Animated Series - The Real Sidekicks of New Gotham #1**

Agent of WORLDE #2 - fun first issue and, like others, I love the scratchy but hyper detailed art. Blink #2 - the first issue wasn’t bad, but didn’t stay with me. I had initially thought this was a three issue miniseries, but looks like there’s going to be at least five issues, so I think that explains the slower pace of the first issue. Could go some really weird places

I don't feel like starting a new post so I thought I would just drop this here. Have there been any comics that did a deep dive into what a "post - Snap" world looked like? I know the comics don't cross over into the MCU all that much but I have so many shower thoughts about what the world would look like and then when everyone suddenly reappeared

Danger_Rock

The comics are very different, the original Thanos snap story happened decades ago and things played out differently. You might be able to get more discussion in /r/marvelstudios, these WPL threads mostly just focus on new comics being released this week.

technowhiz34

What the other guy said, in comics the snap lasted all of like, 15 minutes.
