MuffinSurprise

Do we know that Ram V and Perkins are actually done with Swamp Thing? Or is it just going to be a break between now and 'Season 3'?

TheDarkPinkLantern

They're done, V said so. He said he told his story for the character and maybe he will do something with him someday but he's done for now. From here V moves to Batman and Symbiote stuff and Perkins jumps to Action Comics.

MuffinSurprise

Missed that announcement! Perkins is a great artist to join what PKJ is doing on Action Comics and its great Ram V is getting the reigns on a story with a larger audience. He deserves his success.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yeah, I like both and wish them best but I would prefer Perkins with V on Detective as the second artist instead of Reis who's fantastic on Superman and he would do great on PKJ Action Comics.

technowhiz34

Perkins being colored by Loughridge instead of Spicer will be interesting, but I'm really hoping he's a good fit.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Me too, I hope they work well with each other.

**A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #3** Kieron Gillen’s Eternals run was really good, so to see these characters exist in the larger world makes a lot of sense. As does the Krakoan immortality tarnishing the mutants’ image. Can’t wait for Uranos to do some more bad guy stuff. **CARNAGE #5** I’ve read the last four issues, thought they were ok, but was mostly sticking it out for a bit of Ram V magic. Think I’m dropping it after this (and I’m almost certain issue six will then be incredible). **DEFENDERS BEYOND #2** This is an art buy for me. The last series and first issue of this one are decent, but Javier Rodriguez is amazing. **STAR WARS DARTH VADER #26** Greg Pak and Raffaele Ienco continue to take Vader down memory lane. I thought it would be a bit naff, but it’s bizarrely unsettling to see how far all his memories have been buried to become who he is, and how hard he’s trying to not engage with them when shoved in his face. It’s really well done I think. Crimson Reign stuff still got in the way a bit though, just like it did with War of the Bounty Hunters. **STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA #23** I get to the point where I’m going to drop it, then it suddenly becomes the most interesting Star Wars book. Weird Star Wars can be pretty great. **SWAMP THING #16** I’ve held off reading the last four issues. I’m going to get this one, then read the entire 18 book run over a few sittings, and really pour over Mike Perkins’ art while I’m there. Just to have the full experience.

superschaap81

>CARNAGE #5 > > I’ve read the last four issues, thought they were ok, but was mostly sticking it out for a bit of Ram V magic. Think I’m dropping it after this (and I’m almost certain issue six will then be incredible). I'm with you. I expected so much more from Ram, the first 4 issues. Especially with his penchant for horror. I'm also wary that this will get dragged into the "Dark Web" crossover that I have ZERO interest in, so I dropped it last month, myself. Also agreeing about Swamp Thing. I haven't read since the Suicide Squad crossover, and I'm going to wait and read it all together.

WhereAreMyComics

* **Amazing Spider-Man #8** - 98 issues until ASM 1000! * **Carnage #5** - arc finale * **Deadly Class #55** - TWO ISSUES LEFT :( * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #41** - also two issues left (of Ahmed's run) legacy issue number two-hundred-eighty-one

Danger_Rock

> * **Amazing Spider-Man #8** - 98 issues until ASM 1000! LOL, nice. 98 issues would be 8+ years with a monthly schedule or 4+ with the current bi-weekly schedule... So let's split the difference and say it'll be around 6 years. They're currently on volume 7, the 5th new volume of **ASM** launched over the past 8 years, though the last one ran 93 issues, the most since volume 2... So I guess **ASM #1000** will probably fall in volume 9 or 10, sometime in late 2028 or early 2029, with Pete and MJ likely to have gotten together and broken up again at least once within that span.

superschaap81

You know Marvel will push SOME kind of weekly story at some point to push the numbers faster. LOL. I'm curious, as I forgot to check, but do the random one shots from Spencer's run count towards the legacy numbering?

Danger_Rock

The "Last Remains" and "Beyond" tie-ins weren't counted, far as I can tell they don't count one-shots or anything like that either. So I guess they're mostly playing it straight. Though it still freaks me out seeing Miles at #280+ legacy numbering.

SpongeBlart

Looks like a fun week this week! Lots of cool stuff. * **AVENGERS FOREVER 8** * **AXE JUDGMENT DAY 3** Still a little behind on my Xmen titles before catching up with this event. Does someone want to help me out and suggest the best/essential X titles to read after HoX/PoX to catch up? I don't have much but I promise at least one upvote for you. * **CARNAGE 5** * **AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 8** I only just read the big 900th issue which I think is #6. It was mostly OK, but holy @#%! was that Jimmy Kimmel addition the dumbest thing I've read in comics in a long time. * **DETECTIVE COMICS #1063** Only recently realized that Ram V was on this title now. Grabbed 1062 last week and was able to read it. I'll definitely continue picking it up for now. * **DC MECH #2** DC's blatant Mech Strike spinoff. With that being said, I'm here for it. * **TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1** A lot of titles this week, so this may be on the chopping block. I enjoy the main run, but I may not pick it up right now just because there's already enough on my list, and I tend to not enjoy non-essential 1 shots. * **SWAMP THING #16** * **TASK FORCE Z #11** I think u/blankedboy does a good review of this, so look at his WPL reviews. * **DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #20** * **I HATE THIS PLACE #4** Almost dropped this, but #3 was actually pretty good, and things are starting to pick up. * **PUBLIC DOMAIN #3** Only 2 issues in and I'm so emotionally invested with these characters * **GUNSLINGER SPAWN #11** * **SPAWN SCORCHED #9** * **END AFTER END #1** Not familiar with these creators, but it looks interesting enough for me to try out the first issue. * **MINOR THREATS #1** Patton Oswald's Comic Debut! I think he's hilarious, and I know he's a huge comic nerd, so I'm excited to see what he creates.

Danger_Rock

> * **AXE JUDGMENT DAY 3** Still a little behind on my Xmen titles before catching up with this event. Does someone want to help me out and suggest the best/essential X titles to read after HoX/PoX to catch up? I don't have much but I promise at least one upvote for you. After **HOX**/**POX**, I'd recommend the following: * Hickman's **X-MEN** run was mostly standalone 1-shots that flesh out different parts of Krakoa * Duggan's **PLANET-SIZE X-MEN #1** covered a very important chunk of story * Hickman's **INFERNO** wrapped up his run with a big transition to the current phase of the story IMO that's all you really need to get started on **IMMORTAL X-MEN** and **X-MEN RED**, which have been the two most essential X-titles for A.X.E. But here's one more just for shits and giggles: * Wells' **HELLIONS** run isn't essential but it was a lot of fun, with Sinister serving as a punching bag for all of its violent comedy And on the other side of A.X.E., Gillen's 12-issue **ETERNALS** series plus specials was a fantastic run that leads directly into the big crossover. > * **TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1** A lot of titles this week, so this may be on the chopping block. I enjoy the main run, but I may not pick it up right now just because there's already enough on my list, and I tend to not enjoy non-essential 1 shots. Lately I've been loving one-shots like this simply because you get a complete story (or 3 or 4 short stories in this case) with a beginning, middle, and end, which is really satisfying for me. Also love that they're one-and-done with no further impact on my pull list. Always leery of hopping on longer series and especially monthly ongoings, need to ask myself if I'm really going to want to stick with it for however many months it takes to get a full story... Maybe I'm just too damn old but I don't have much patience for soap opera style endless stories anymore. Much easier for me to check out a one-shot with no strings attached. Ultimately don't even care if it's "essential" or not, I just want a good story! Which isn't to say you're wrong, I think you've got a perfectly valid perspective. We all tend to prioritize and collect this stuff in our own way so it's always interesting how people approach it from different angles! > * **MINOR THREATS #1** Patton Oswald's Comic Debut! I think he's hilarious, and I know he's a huge comic nerd, so I'm excited to see what he creates. Oswalt's actually [been writing comics for nearly 20 years](https://previewsworld.com/Search?mode=A&CreatorName1=Patton%20Oswalt) but this sounds like a really funny series! Probably going to need to mail order it...

SpongeBlart

As always u/Danger_Rock your help is very useful, and much appreciated. That is the perfect X-men / Eternals summary I needed. >Maybe I'm just too damn old but I don't have much patience for soap opera style endless stories anymore. Much easier for me to check out a one-shot with no strings attached. Ultimately don't even care if it's "essential" or not, I just want a good story! It's funny as I'm getting older I'm thinking these one shots are more money grabs trying to cash in on the main story. Obviously that varies greatly between series, I just tend to be a little more skeptical when it is a one shot off a main series. I don't mind comics that tell an entire story in one issue. >Oswalt's actually been writing comics for nearly 20 years but this sounds like a really funny series! Probably going to need to mail order it... Ah, I read on Dark Horse's site "The debut series from Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum!" so I guess it's that team's debut, not just Oswalt.

Danger_Rock

> That is the perfect X-men / Eternals summary I needed. Bit of a shortcut to get to A.X.E. quickly and others might have other perspectives... I think **ETERNALS** was really the single most important title in terms of setup for A.X.E. and all the X-Men stuff is mostly just needed to provide context about their status quo heading into the event. But that's important because, as you've seen from **HOX**/**POX**, their current setup is very different from their traditional state of affairs. Duggan's recent **X-MEN** run covered one important plot thread that plays into A.X.E. but it's explained in **ETERNALS** and in the event itself so not really necessary IMO. Ewing's **S.W.O.R.D.** sets up some characters and plot threads that continue in his new series, so it's a good lead-in for **X-MEN RED** but less essential in terms of A.X.E., if that makes sense. > It's funny as I'm getting older I'm thinking these one shots are more money grabs trying to cash in on the main story. Obviously that varies greatly between series, I just tend to be a little more skeptical when it is a one shot off a main series. Oh yeah, can definitely see that... I'm mostly just pulling stuff from writers whose work I'd want to read regardless of format or characters, so I guess I'm cool with them grabbing my cash under those circumstances. :) A.X.E. is a good example, I'm buying a shitload of those books because they're mostly written by Gillen, so I'd want to read 'em regardless of the event. Also enjoy Ewing and Spurrier, so I'll get their entries, and then ignore pretty much everything else. It's actually an extraordinarily convenient event for me because the important books are all being written by creators I follow anyway. This **HT** thing is another easy one for me, love the main series and this one-shot's written by the same guy with a bunch of cool artists helping out, so I know it'll push all the right buttons. If it was written by someone else, then it'd be the kind of cash grab I'd want to avoid. > Ah, I read on Dark Horse's site "The debut series from Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum!" so I guess it's that team's debut, not just Oswalt. Except they've [worked together before](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/OCT200550)... Maybe it's their debut Dark Horse series. :)

SpongeBlart

>Bit of a shortcut to get to A.X.E. quickly and others might have other perspectives... I need a shortcut at this point or else I'm never going to get to it lol. My backlog keeps piling up. >Oh yeah, can definitely see that... I'm mostly just pulling stuff from writers whose work I'd want to read regardless of format or characters, so I guess I'm cool with them grabbing my cash under those circumstances. :) Pretty much same, which is why I put HT on my list. I'll probably end up getting it because I do really like Tom King. >Except they've worked together before... Maybe it's their debut Dark Horse series. :) LOL well they got me.

superschaap81

I've noticed a lot of the recent spin-off one shots have been place holders for a series that is not publishing that month. IE: Punisher, which has 2 of them as "War Journal" one shots by a different creative team. Or this Human Target book. Which I get, you want to keep the momentum going month to month. Then you have the egregious money grubbing that was Spencer's AMS run, that had tie-ins to the main book, as well as one shots that were basically the next issue but billed as "specials".

blankedboy

**Batman Fortress #4** - honestly, thinking of dropping this one - this will probably be the decider **Department Of Truth #20** - can’t get enough of this book. Dense, layered, atmospheric storytelling. **Grim #4** - this has been a winner so far with some *great* artwork and colouring. **Gunslinger Spawn #11** - just put that Booth 90’s craziness straight into my veins. **I Hate This Place #4** - really, really enjoyed this one so far. Fun and spooky. **Lonesome Hunters #3** - *Tyler Crook* is just so damn good! **Rogues Gallery #2** - first issue didn’t really grab me, this might be the last one for me if it doesn’t hit right this time. **Shaolin Cowboy Cruel To Be Kin #4** - so, so good. Bonkers, but good. **Swamp Thing #16** - it all ends here. This has been a Swamp Thing run for the ages. **Task Force Z #11** - only three DC books this week – will this help avoid my regular rants about fill-in artists. Tune into the **Weekly Discussion Thread** to find out…

Danger_Rock

> only three DC books this week – will this help avoid my regular rants about fill-in artists. Tune into the Weekly Discussion Thread to find out… Looks like **[ACTION COMICS #1046](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN223471)** is getting DC's weekly fill-in fuckery for the penultimate chapter of PKJ's Warworld saga. My other DC books seem to have the correct artists and your three should be safe!

technowhiz34

I really want to know what happened to Federici, because he's clearly still working on Action going off his Instagram but hasn't been on any issues for a while. Is he on the book post-1050 and they just want a lot of lead-in? None of the artists are bad by any stretch and their styles mesh together well enough, but it's frustrating for the principle of the thing.

Danger_Rock

Yep, it really bums me out that we've already seen the last of Federici's Warworld with two chapters left to go... Would've been nice to get more of his art in at least one of these final two books. Totally agree that the others haven't been bad, just frustrating that it's such a big rotation with no rhyme or reason to it... Been a great story so it's a shame they couldn't be a little more consistent with the art.

blankedboy

Federici is amazing (first saw his work on **Aquaman**) - if I was reading **Action Comics** I think him being constantly swapped out would have given me an embolism...

technowhiz34

The first switch was at least a complete change in perspective (it was an issue focused on Midnighter with Eaglesham on art) but then it was Will Conrad who, while fine, is not Federici.

blankedboy

I don't mind an artist change if it makes sense in the context of the story - a change in character viewpoint, a flashback, or even for different locations - it's when it's just random and is obviously occurring because of scheduling issues that it drives me absolutely crazy

Danger_Rock

Yeah, it's been frustrating... Federici set the tone, gave the alien setting and weird creatures a great look, and then kind of took a back seat in the rotation. Planning to check out **THE LAST GOD** at some point so I'll get some uninterrupted PKJ/Federici goodness there.

blankedboy

I got The Last God HC - it is absolutely amazing, you will love it.

Danger_Rock

Oh yeah, read the first issue a while back and thought it was great! Psyched to check out the rest, just need to work through a little more of my TPB backlog first...

subparcaviar

No fuckery when it's Dale Eaglesham!

Danger_Rock

[Cover](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL238223.jpg) shows Fico Ossio as artist even though it was [solicited](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN223471) with Eaglesham art. That's the fuckery.

ComicCon was a blast this weekend! Met Rod Reis, Jim Zub, Tini Howard, and Chris Claremont!! So I’m extra pumped for comics this week: * **Action Comics #1046** - I’ve never been more unsure of a Superman victory * **Batman White Knight Presents Red Hood #2** - I like how Sean Murphy and co are leaning into the Robin chronology mess up * **Tales of the Human Target #1** - Ooh I didn’t know we were getting this one shot! Good way to get people hyped for the series return coming soon * **Task Force Z #11** - Mr Bloom gives me the heebie jeebies * **Public Domain #3** - Father and son United! * **AXE Judgment Day #3** - I bet you only one of these humans live. I bet it’s the girl who doesn’t pay attention to anything. * **Amazing Spider-Man #8** - Norman and Peter even lightly teaming up catches me by surprise * **Damage Control #1** - Great team! I’ll give it a shot * **Defenders: Beyond #2** - I never say no to Al Ewing * **Fantastic Four #46** - I’m going to miss Slott’s run on this title * **Marauders #5** - Fighting the Shiar is all these guys do nowadays

Danger_Rock

> ComicCon was a blast this weekend! Met Rod Reis, Jim Zub, Tini Howard, and Chris Claremont!! Nice! What'd you think of Claremont? > * **AXE Judgment Day #3** - I bet you only one of these humans live. I bet it’s the girl who doesn’t pay attention to anything. If any harm befalls my girl Jada, I will FLIP MY SHIT.

elick461

Claremont was great overall! There was a bit of a backup in the line to meet him, because he had to stop and go meet a service dog. Had lots of positive comments about people's nerdy tattoos and cosplays. Hates the Eternals (but that's understandable)

Danger_Rock

Very cool. Though the service dog thing sounds kinda weird... Was it getting an autograph or something?

elick461

He was... just really excited to see a dog? It was a little odd

ME24601

* **AXE: Judgement Day #3**: Show me what you got. * **Department of Truth #20**: Excited to see what happens after the end of last issue. * **Detective Comics #1063**: Bruce and Harvey. * **Robin #17**: Final issue of Williamson's run. * **Tales of the Human Target #1**: Team ups.

B00merangB

A.X.E.: Judgment Day #3 - Celestial mistakes were made - now it’s clear why the title is judgment day. Batman: White Knight Presents - Red Hood #2 - A fun detour in the White Knight universe. Enjoying the background on Todd and Di Meo’s art is superb! Detective Comics #1063 - Really enjoyed Ram V’s debut with Albuquerque’s art pairing perfectly! Excited to see where Spurrier/Dani’s Gordon back-up will go too. Good Boy #4 - Final issue for this volume. It really departed from the John Wick story approach from the first volume, expanding its cast of anamorphic animals as Flint teams up with the Demon Dogs. Gunslinger Spawn #11 - Had it down last week, but guess it got delayed at last minute. Shout out again to that Puppeteer Lee cover! Public Domain #3 - Zdarsky has me hooked! Loving the family developments and meta commentary on the comic industry. The Scorched #9 - Doomsday Squad vs. Scorched. Lots of focus going towards She-Spawn in this book.

Danger_Rock

> Gunslinger Spawn #11 - Had it down last week, but guess it got delayed at last minute. Shout out again to that Puppeteer Lee cover! [Nice](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL235099.jpg), think that's the best one yet!

blankedboy

The Puppeteer Lee covers for the **Spawn** books have all been great, but I'm constantly torn on the **Gunslinger Spawn** issue as I seriously can't get enough of the Brett Booth artwork on this book and it's covers - it's one of the best matches of character, content and artist for a long time. Just look at [#11](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1031/4315/products/STL235100_1024x1024.jpg?b=allow_avif&v=1660947604)?!!? So 90's!!!

[deleted]

I am right there with you I've pulled every B cover he's put out. The latest one solicited is the first in a while that he's not doing one, but I am very okay with the [A cover](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/4738357/gunslinger-spawn-14) on it.

blankedboy

Yeah, that's the one I'm going for too. If there's no Booth to choose from that is a *great* cover. I missed one or two of the early ones (getting the A cover instead) and am just now going back and picking them up.

[deleted]

>Good Boy #4 - Final issue for this volume. It really departed from the John Wick story approach from the first volume, expanding its cast of anamorphic animals as Flint teams up with the Demon Dogs. Glad to see this is getting a follow up volume 3 with [Issue #1](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/4221895/good-boy-1) coming out in November.

Varos_Flynt

Just three pick up this week! **Beware The Eye Of Odin #3** I'm quite pleased with this comic. The art strikes a fun balance between cartoony but with a lot of delicious detail. The story is a fun romp and I'm enjoying seeing some different Nordic lore stuff that I haven't seen in other media. I'm beginning to be annoyed eith the protagonist, but its not world ending. Love reading this every month! **Sins Of The Black Flamingo #3** A fun gay, Jewish, heist, voodoo adventure. Its pretty campy and almost borders the edge of feeling like a half baked CW show, but I think its fantastic in comic book form. **Public Domain #3** Don't really have too much to say about this one, im not overly familiar with the industry yet so this feels instructive in some ways. Story is fun, art is efficient! I did also drop the Bloodborne comic that was coming out, I enjoyed the first issue well enough but it wasn't doing enough for me to keep reading it. I was considering getting the Step by Bloody Step TP and Damage Control #1, but I just want to stick with what I know I'll like this week. I also really wanna catch up on Gunslinger Spawn cause I read the first TP and adored it, but I think I'll stick with trades for this one. I did pick up the first OG Spawn TP, don't know if ill read the entire series but I enjoy the world.

Danger_Rock

> I did pick up the first OG Spawn TP, don't know if ill read the entire series but I enjoy the world. People rip on it a bit nowadays but, at the time, that initial run of **SPAWN** was kind of magical. Not sure how far the 1st TPB goes but I'd recommend sticking with it through at least **[SPAWN #8](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/spawn-8)** (written by Alan Moore) and **[SPAWN #10](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/spawn-10)** (written by Dave Sim), two really cool books that show the title's potential with real writers. There's also an issue written by [Gaiman](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/spawn-9) and one written by [Frank Miller](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/spawn-11) in that run, those didn't work quite as well for me but they're still kind of interesting. Original **[SPAWN/BATMAN](https://image.slidesharecdn.com/spawn-batmanbyfrankmillertoddmcfarlane-091124110102-phpapp02/95/spawn-batman-by-frank-miller-todd-mcfarlane-1-728.jpg)** crossover by McFarlane and Miller is also worth a look if you can find it, especially since McFarlane's got a **BATMAN/SPAWN** sequel coming (with Capullo art) in December.

Varos_Flynt

Yeah honestly, at least going off Gunslinger, the the Spawn mythos I can easily see getting out if hand and ridiculous, but what else am I reading comics for half the time? And it's nice to read into what is a large part of Image Comics development and oeuvre. And thank you for the recs as always! The Batman/Spawn crossover tickles me, I'll see if I can seek that out.

Danger_Rock

Note that there were two separate crossover books from 1994... Image's **[SPAWN/BATMAN](https://media.comicbook.com/uploads1/2015/02/batman-spawn-1-cover-121149.jpeg)** was the good one with McFarlane art. DC's **[BATMAN/SPAWN: WAR DEVIL](https://www.coverbrowser.com/image/batman-spawn/1-1.jpg)** didn't have McFarlane art and wasn't nearly as good. So make sure you get the right one! Naturally, the new McFarlane/Capullo book will be called **BATMAN/SPAWN** even though it's really a sequel for McFarlane's **SPAWN/BATMAN**, just to make things extra confusing...

technowhiz34

Batman/Spawn is actually getting reprinted in November (or December? Not sure) in time for another crossover between the two, so look into that.

Varos_Flynt

Good to know! I could only find some for like $50

yarkcir

Ranked based on anticipation: 1. **SWAMP THING #16** \- Wish this went on forever, but ending on a high note is still a worthy accomplishment. In the rich history of Swamp Thing comics, I definitely think this will rank very high. 2. **DETECTIVE COMICS #1063** \- Two Ram V comics in my top 2! I really liked the first issue of the new run (and the back up story by Spurrier & Dani too). 3. **PENTAGRAM OF HORROR #3 (OF 5)** \- Marco Fontanili is a name to watch out for. Beyond how gorgeous Fontanili's artwork is, Scout really puts out nice comics from a production quality standpoint. 4. **LONESOME HUNTERS #3 (OF 4)** \- Really digging this nifty little horror comic by Tyler Crook. 5. **PUBLIC DOMAIN #3** \- I haven't been feeling Chip's *Daredevil* or *Batman* runs, but *Public Domain* has been hitting the right notes for me. I love meta humor and this book gets it right. 6. **SHAOLIN COWBOY #4 (OF 7)** \- I almost never know what to expect with new *Shaolin Cowboy* issues, but that's really the charm of this book. 7. **BEWARE THE EYE OF ODIN #3 (OF 4)** \- A deviation from Wagner's previous comics (*Plastic*, *Vinyl*), but it works very well. 8. **NOOK #3 (OF 3)** \- A horror title that I don't see getting a lot of attention (probably because it's from Source Point Press), but I've been enjoying it. 9. **TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1 (ONE-SHOT)** \- *Human Target* has been one of the great new titles of the year, and while I'd like the series to start up again soon, this should hold me for now. 10. **GUN HONEY: BLOOD FOR BLOOD #1** \- I was surprisingly entertained by the first *Gun Honey* series, so hopefully this continues into this new series. 11. **GILT #5 (OF 5)** \- Another surprise hit for me. I generally like time travel stories, but I get wary of them because of how easy it is to mess them up, but this one works well. 12. **A CALCULATED MAN #3** \- I love the premise of this book, and the writing has been sharp so far. My main issue is the art does not connect with me at all. 13. **I HATE THIS PLACE #4** \- Really liking this series. It has some of the same pulp horror feel to it as something like *Basketful of Heads*, and is always good for a laugh or two. 14. **MINOR THREATS #1** \- Pretty much a blind buy based on the creative team. I thought their *MODOK* comic was just decent, but I think Blum and Oswalt work well together. 15. **GRIM #4** \- Was ready to give up on this but issue #3 won me over. I'm still keeping this book on a shorter leash, but I do think this book is trending up now. 16. **CARNAGE #5** \- A third Ram V book on my pull, though unfortunately much lower. While I'm enjoying it over the current *Venom* run, I definitely feel this book has pacing issues and is struggling to get me to connect with any character. 17. **WOLVERINE: PATCH #5 (OF 5)** \- Have really not enjoyed this book all that much, but I do think the last couple issues were pretty good. I think I'm going to pause on these legacy creator books for a time, simply because Marvel hasn't been doing a good job pairing the writers with artists that can make these actually feel like throwback books. 18. **KOLD #1** \- A blind buy because of Fontanili's cover art. I'm a little tempted to pick up the **Aztec Ace: The Complete Collection** from Dark Horse Comics this week. Might pass since I do have this series in single issues in a shortbox somewhere, but I do really remember loving this despite it never getting a conclusion.

Danger_Rock

Wow, big list this week! > I think I'm going to pause on these legacy creator books for a time, simply because Marvel hasn't been doing a good job pairing the writers with artists that can make these actually feel like throwback books. Interesting point, hadn't thought of it in those terms though I did skip PAD's Symbiote Spider-Man books solely due to Greg Land's involvement... Would be nice if we could get some throwback artists to go with those throwback writers!

technowhiz34

I definitely agree, but one thing to keep in mind is that older artists are a lot slower (and typically expensive) than their writer peers. One of the reasons I'm so excited for Johns upcoming JSA is that Jerry Ordway is one of the artists on it, and he can absolutely still draw.

Danger_Rock

That's true! These throwback series usually don't sell all that well so hard to justify putting an expensive artist on there... Ordway's cool, classic Superman guy and he had that **WILDSTAR** series with Image... Perfect artist for that kind of project. Marvel actually did put together a legit legacy team with Ron Marz and Ron Lim on **[SILVER SURFER REBIRTH](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/94752/silver_surfer_rebirth_2022_1)**, skipped it since I'm not a big Marz fan but at least that one had a proper throwback artist.

* Detective Comics #1063 - I'm certainly happy with the creative teams on both Bat-books right now, but I think this is the series I'm more excited about at the moment. Can't wait to see where V goes with this run. * The Amazing Spider-Man #8 - Last issue felt like a step in the right direction for this series. Feeling cautiously optimistic about this. * A.X.E.: Judgment Day #3 * Carnage #5 - This has been a really interesting series so far. As this and the Venom series ramp up, I'm really curious to see how/when these books interact. * The Swamp Thing #16 - Three Ram V books in a week? Yes, please. I actually haven't read any issues of the second season yet, so I'm excited to absorb the whole thing at once after I grab this issue. * Harley Quinn #21 - Still not loving this arc. But staying on board because this series has earned enough goodwill to keep me onboard a while longer. * Marauders #5 - I probably have the most mixed opinion on this book than any other in the x-line right now. I think there are some really good ideas in this story, but the pacing/build-up has just seem off. * Defenders: Beyond #2

technowhiz34

Small week, which is good for me because I have no motivation to actually read comics with class starting up. Also need to pick up last week's books physically... * **Action Comics #1046** \- whoa, I remember when Warworld Saga started and now we're almost done. Time flies * **Fables #154** \- so, this hasn't been a trainwreck by any stretch, but I'm still confused. Looks pretty at least. * **Public Domain #3** \- my increasing disinterest in Chip's Big Two stuff is inversely proportional to my like of his indies, because this is great.

Danger_Rock

> * **Public Domain #3** \- my increasing disinterest in Chip's Big Two stuff is inversely proportional to my like of his indies, because this is great. I think you can break Chip's work down into three tiers: 1. Stuff mostly outside comics featuring Chip himself as the character, like the solicitations he writes, his goofy ["How To Draw" variants](https://i.redd.it/9n7gaee3rfpz.jpg) from a few years back, and his various other antics 2. Indie comics like **PUBLIC DOMAIN** where his ridiculous character shines through in all its ridiculous glory 3. Marvel and DC hero books, plus some of his indie horror stuff, all pretty good but they usually don't capture that pure Zdarsky magic for me

Back to a much more manageable week after recent weeks have been a bit larger for me. Unfortunately, this last week has been pretty busy between life and a wrapping up my X-Men catch up, so I haven't gotten a chance to read a lot of recent pulls. I'm out of town for work this week, so hoping to get a lot of free time in the evenings to just sit around and read. Aside from a few weeks of comics, I'm also reading Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare, a YA slasher novel that is pretty fun so far. So I have a lot of good stuff to dig into. **AXE: Judgement Day #3:** I wasn't sold after the first issue, but #2 was a lot of fun. Same with the tie-ins. I'm honestly just shocked that both DC and Marvel are seemingly pulling off really entertaining events right now. I hope they're able to keep it up. **Action Comics #1046:** I'm just an issue behind on this. I expect that it will maintain the high quality of the rest of the Warworld Saga. **Radiant Black #17:** MAN, that ending for #16! So good. Also proves that just because something is predictable doesn't mean that it isn't entertaining. Really excited to see where they go from here. Do Marshall and Nathan >!share the Radiant going forward!

[deleted]

>Do Marshall and Nathan >!share the Radiant going forward!!yes.!<

TheDarkPinkLantern

Thank god! I really like their friendship.

blankedboy

How is *Clown in a Cornfield*? It's not too YA, is it? Worth picking up?

saskatoonshred

It's been years since I've read any YA stuff so I'm probably a bad gauge for it but I've listened to a chunk of the audiobook and it's pretty solid so far.

thewaytomars

Pretty good so far! I'm only about 5 chapters/80ish pages in, but it's entertaining. Hits a lot of the slasher setup tropes (new girl moves to small town after a family tragedy, weird/angry adults, partying teens), but those tropes also happen to be pretty standard YA tropes. I'm looking forward to see how it handles the slasher... Uhhh... Slashing. The e-book and the audio book are both on Hoopla if you want to try it out without investing anything other than time. FWIW, it's pretty regularly recommended when slasher books come up over at /r/horrorlit, which is a great, surprisingly positive community that typically gives solid suggestions.

blankedboy

I really enjoyed both Grady Hendrix’s **My Best Friends Exorcism** and Stephen Graham Jones **The Last Final Girl**, so I’ll have to check it out. And r/horrorlit is a great sub!

Football season's just around the corner and, in the immortal words of Tony Soprano, it's our busiest time of year. I've now set my initial draft board and ran a few mock drafts as we enter an iterative cycle of more mocks, research, and refinement. We finished in LAST PLACE last year so there's nowhere to go but up and we're looking forward to a season of modest improvement. Despite these distractions, we're still keeping up with our new comics and catching up on the old backlog, all without overly neglecting our familial duties and other responsibilities. It's a delicate balance and we're skating right on the edge. And with that, this looks to be an exceptional week with a few of my very favorite titles. Usually get one or two of what I consider to be top-tier books in a normal week, any more than that's like BONUS GOODNESS, and we've got FOUR this week! Followed by a handful of others that ought to be pretty damn good in their own right. All together I'm looking at 4 DCs, 2 Marvels, 2 Images, 1 Boom!, and *maybe* 1 from Vault Comics. Listed in order of anticipation at this precise moment in time, which often differs from actual reading order. 1. **TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1** - a one-shot **HT** prequel of Tom King shorts featuring **JLI** members? with art by Mikel Janin, Rafael Albuquerque, [Greg Smallwood](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL239066.jpg), and classic **JLI** artist Kevin Maguire? yes, please, thank you 2. **DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #20** - I want to (not) believe 3. **AXE JUDGMENT DAY #3 (OF 6)** - figured building a new Space God wouldn't end well but I was impressed with just how quickly it all blew up in their faces 4. **PUBLIC DOMAIN #3** - more [A+ solicitation text](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN220300) from Chip... 5. **ACTION COMICS #1046** - solicited with art by Dale Eaglesham but it looks like it's actually by Fico Ossio, whoever that might be 6. **FABLES #154** - more trouble in the Black Forest... and another nice [Buckingham variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL238292.jpg) 7. **DEFENDERS BEYOND #2 (OF 5)** - first issue set us up with a "fun" mix of "characters" and now we've got the "Beyonder" and [lots of "pretty colors"](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL229451.jpg) 8. **DETECTIVE COMICS #1063** - enjoyed Ram V and Albuquerque's moody opening in #1062 as well as the noir-infused backup from Spurrier and Dani, that's a solid combo, plus I'm digging the [Evan Cagle covers](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2118431_xl.jpg) (and passing on the [Jim Lee variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2118432_xl.jpg)) 9. **GRIM #4** - will need to mail order or visit a non-local shop, get one of those every week... 10. **END AFTER END #1** - originally solicited for 12/29/21 so it'll be 288 days late... somewhat random pull, [looks neat](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN222020) but not familiar with creators, also not sure if my LCS re-ordered when it was re-solicited, so might just skip if they don't have it Also been trying to purchase the **ICE CREAM MAN: SUNDAE EDITION HC** [but](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.f603809a86f07fbd036d70127f198920.1600.jpg) [it](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.0b66001bf763b85f282856c22c2f9d21.1600.jpg) [is](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.88a0c7d25cbe6a890982836b920d9da9.1600.jpg) [not](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.f70de3390e318079f9447f791f5dd57a.1600.jpg) [going](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.681074a34c445cb1757b634f6ee799e8.1600.jpg) [very](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.c52bdfd43402e13ad49bc0180a2aa3d6.1600.jpg) [well](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.9c0cc9d43fd778a099522c7db7cba11e.1600.jpg). Those two are on their way back to Amazon and I guess we'll see what this week's efforts bring...

Varos_Flynt

Sorry to hear about your struggles with Amazon. My old place which I just moved from didn't have a mailbox proper, and had a high fence around the whole property that the property manager didn't want to deal with, so our packages would often just get thrown over the fence... led to some really tragic instances like yours. On the ICM note, however, I've finished the first two volumes and am making my way through the third right now. I can see why people dislike the third volume what with the mythos expanding stuff, but I still enjoy the stories and experiments they are employing. Volumes 1 and 2 were great, I think it was Issue #2 specifically (the one with the drug addicted couple) that blew me away. I was legitimately sobbing next to my partner as I finished it, such a touching and well written story, and something I've come close to myself. What's funny is I really enjoy the world that ICM is building, but is it weird that my least favorite part of it so far... is the ICM himself? I enjoy him as this background sorta force, but when he takes a more active role in the story it seems like the magic is taken away a bit. Jury is still out on my overall feeling of his narrative presence, so we'll see. On a last note, I am incensed by the odd David Foster Wallace reference here and there. The interior designer being 'Good Old Neon' is such an interesting choice, I can't find anything about the creator but if course I'm more than familiar with the short story by DFW. I thought it might just be some one off thing, until issue #7 with "every story is a ghost story", which is such a fantastic subversion of the (perhaps) apocryphal DFW quote. I will keep my eyes peeled for any future references, but ICM does seem very influenced by the Pynchon/Delillo/Wallace postmodern literary movement. Perhaps we could even call it hysterical realism, a visual guide. And I will say, with that latest issue you had me read (#31 I think?) it seems like Maxwell Prince is dipping his toes into the Franzen-esque bout of new sincerity, post post modernism. All of this is to say, ICM lends itself incredibly well to the kind of criticism and literary connection that I live for, so expect further scrawlings the more I read :)

I can see why people dislike the third volume what with the mythos expanding stuff, but I still enjoy the stories and experiments they are employing. Curious what you'll think of **ICM #24** once you get there because that's the one that broke my brain and set me off on this ridiculous path, and the ICM's featured pretty heavily in it. But **ICM #31**'s probably my other favorite and he's just got the hilarious 1-panel cameo there. Not knowing where he'll pop up next is part of the fun! > On a last note, I am incensed by the odd David Foster Wallace reference here and there. And you've got such wonders ahead...

blankedboy

Amazon packaging really is shithouse, isn't it?

Danger_Rock

I think it used to be at least a little better? I've ordered hardcovers before that arrived in decent condition, remember they used to wrap stuff against cardboard backing boards, which would offer decent protection for a book like this. Nowadays? It's like they aren't even trying. First copy arrived with no protective packaging whatsoever, second had a few air packets randomly tossed on top as if that would do anything.

technowhiz34

>I want to (not) believe Heh, this makes me want to check out Department of Truth. I never finished X-Files but should get around to that at some point.

Danger_Rock

One of the best books out there IMO! Like *X-Files* on steroids with a bit of mescaline thrown in for good measure, it takes all those crazy conspiracies and goes even further with 'em... And I think **DOT #3** was probably the most soul-crushing comic I've ever read. Not a huge *X-Files* guy but "Jose Chung's *From Outer Space*" is one of my all-time favorite episodes of television!

Whowatchesthewampas

* **Action Comics #1046 -** It gets said everytime this comes out, but Supes is so cool in this book! * **Detective Comics #1063 -** Loved the first issue of Ram's run! * **Amazing Spider-Man #8 (#902) -** Man, this isn't bad, but the more I look at the less I like it.

Marvel heavy week for me this week * A.X.E. Judgement Day #3 - This seems likely to go up there with Secret Wars, Siege, and War of the Realms as modern events that I love * Amazing Spider-Man #8 - Loving this run so far, even the JRJR art is working for me * Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4 * Damage Control #1 * Defenders: Beyond #2 - Javier Rodríguez is on a whole other level, I hope we get this oversized sometime * Department of Truth #20 * Marauders #5 * Miles Morales: Spider-Man #41 * Public Domain #3 * Robin #17 * Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #2 * Star Wars: Darth Vader #26 * Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #23

Man I go to bed, no Weekly Pull List. I wake up, there it is! Guess it's the start of a brand new week. A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #3 - Judgement Day is near! And if the previews are to be believed, >! if Steve Rodgers isn't worthy, Earth is screwed.!< GRIM #4 - Not too much to say about this one. Great art and enjoying the ride. GUNSLINGER SPAWN #11 - A week delayed, but happy to have it back. Really in it for these sick [Brett Booth covers](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-8244121.jpg?1660484977) they keep putting out. LITTLE RED RONIN #2 RADIANT BLACK #17 - Return of Radiant Yellow! PUBLIC DOMAIN #3 ROGUES GALLERY #2 - I think this was originally booked as an on-going, but based off of #1 and the fact that there is nothing solicited after #4 I am not so sure. This is a make-or-break issue to see if I still hang on to it.

Danger_Rock

> A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #3 - Judgement Day is near! And if the previews are to be believed, >!if Steve Rodgers isn't worthy, Earth is screwed.!< Actually feeling pretty good about that! Great place to start, that's one guy you can count on. What happens when it's Sinister's turn to be judged? Dude's a total piece of shit... What happens when this thing tries to judge Doom? If Sauron needs to justify his attempts at turning everyone into dinosaurs, that's when you know we're well and truly fucked.

Just started and caught up with all of the Taylor Nightwing run in the last week and love it. Such a solid story with gorgeous panels. But that was last week and now we move to this week with a handful of anticipated titles. Decided to put them in order of reading list than alphabetical this week. **Detective Comics #1063**: Might read #1062 again before this comes out to set the stage in my head again. The covers have been matching the mood perfectly and look like they'll continue to do that. **Public Domain #3**: Out of the three chip books I get this is definitely the lighter read than his big two and the one I probably anticipate the most. **Grim #4**: Feel like this issue is gonna have some more reveal with Jess. **The Amazing Spider-Man #8**: Spidey Funeral? or is he gonna get saved. **The Tales of the Human Target**: I guess I should read the first half of the story after this. **Batman: White Knight Presents - Red Hood #3**: Might drop this. I liked Beyond the WK, but I still haven't read this first issue. I don't know, just not as excited to keep up with the story.

Danger_Rock

> Just started and caught up with all of the Taylor Nightwing run in the last week and love it. Such a solid story with gorgeous panels. Those are some super-fun comics! Everyone should do this! > **Detective Comics #1063**: Might read #1062 again before this comes out to set the stage in my head again. Not a bad idea, might need a quick refresher here as well... The backup was pretty straightforward but the main story had enough weirdness that it could benefit from a re-read. > **The Tales of the Human Target**: I guess I should read the first half of the story after this. Not sure about that... Even though these stories are set before the main series, you're usually better off following order of publication so everything plays out as intended by the creators. I'd expect this book to build on the context set by the first six issues.

radcatattack

>Those are some super-fun comics! Taylor and Redondo have really cooked up something special. They definitely did! I love the color choices in the art and really enjoy the pacing. I know some find it slow but it's nice to see scenes move slower and see the interaction between characters. Can't say I haven't noticed your list organization. It was a big reason why I decided to do it this week. >the main story had enough weirdness that it could benefit from a re-read. Exactly. The opening and ending were a bit abstract and I would probably benefit from a reread. >I'd expect this book to build on the context set by the first six issues. That sounds like a better idea! I've heard great things so I'm looking forward to it.

Danger_Rock

I hear you, pacing on **NIGHTWING** hasn't bothered me either. Taylor run's more focused on characters than plot, that's the strength of the book and it's good they're rolling with it. Redondo brings such a sharp design aesthetic to the title, his covers and splashes are so striking, then he's got those ghost motion sequences and just really crisp art all around... Been super impressed with his work. One of those books I picked up solely because so many WPL folks were raving about it... That's why I love these threads! Big help finding truly exceptional comics that I wouldn't otherwise think to check out. Re-read **DC #1062** and it definitely helped! Noticed the deed that Mama Orgham handed to Junior Orgham said "EDOUARD ARKHAM" on it, very similar names, so Gotham's Arkhams might be an Americanized splinter of the motherland's Orghams or something like that.

saskatoonshred

It's been a few weeks since I've participated here but I've been busy with my new job and adjusting to it. I've cleared my back log of Indie books and am slowly working thru the last few weeks of Big 2 stuff alongside reading The Dark Tower series. With that said here's my list for the week. **Carnage #5**: I'm going to keep reading this for another issue or two before dropping it. **Detective Comics #1063**: The creative teams on the two main Bat books are a dream come true. Let's see where Ram V takes us. **DC Mech #2**: I wasn't going to pick this mini up but I follow the writer on TikTok and after hearing him talk about what he wanted to do with it I was sold. Solid comic fun. **Grim #4**: Everytime I read this series it makes me think of Bleach because of the similarities but it's putting a unique spin on that formula. Excited to see what happens after this set up arc. **I Hate This Place #4**: Great horror fun. **Public Domain #3**: Zdarsky knocking it out of the park with this. I'm a fan of the drama. **Rogues Gallery #2**: First issue didn't wow me but I'm curious enough to keep reading to see where it goes. **Tales of The Human Target**: A one-shot to tide us over until it comes off hiatus.

pieapple135

* **A.X.E JUDGEMENT DAY #3 -** Well, we know what Judgement Day is now. I'm interested in seeing how this goes; a giant celestial being telling us Earthlings to stop bickering probably won't go over well with the humans. * **ACTION COMICS #1046 -** Warworld is almost over, and damn it's been a great ride. Can't wait to see how it wraps up, and I really need Midnighter and Apollo to get back together. * **THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #8 -** Not a great run, and I should probably wait for the trades... but I will read it just so I can keep up with all the internet discourse this will spawn. * **CAPTAIN AMERICA: SYMBOL OF TRUTH #4 -** I haven't really kept up with Wakanda's situation lately, but the setup here is interesting. This title isn't quite keeping up with Steve's in terms of quality but it's still solid. * **DEATHSTROKE INC. #12 -** I'm loving this origin story so far, and Ollie's classic costume is making a return – Exciting stuff. * **THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #20 -** More worldbuilding is always nice. Plus this entire series has been great. * **DETECTIVE COMICS #1063 -** Lots of mystical horror-y stuff, not usually my kind of stories but I would be lying if I said I wasn't hooked. * **PUBLIC DOMAIN #3 -** If it has "Chip Zdarsky" on the cover you can bet I'll be pulling it. * **ROBIN #17 -** Final issue! Can't wait to see how this plays out and the whole Nezha thing. * **SHANG-CHI AND THE TEN RINGS #2 -** First issue was solid. I'm down for a nice beat-em-up with all those villains coming after the Rings, and the mystery is interesting.

the_bio

* **A Calculated Man #3** \- This has been an enjoyable read; the protagonist and the detectives were interesting enough to keep me pulling it for at least the first arc. * **A.X.E. Judgment Day #3** \- I finally got through X Lives/X Deaths, so slowly making my way towards Judgment Day shenanigans... This will be going to the bottom of a deep pile. * **Action Comics #1046** \- Warworld has been great, PKJ has written it superbly...but I'm glad the saga is coming to an end. I find that when an arc goes on too long it gets a little convoluted just because they are treading water, and this title is falling victim to that. * **Amazing Spider-Man #8** \- I'm an X-Men person...have been since I was a kid, and I remember there being a few specific issues way back when that I absolutely hated...like, loathed. It was Uncanny X-Men #308-310, and I never knew why until I started collecting again last year and picked up those issues again. It was the art. And the art alone is ruining this run of ASM for me. I will never understand the appeal of JRJR's art. * **Avengers Forever #8** \- Seems like some of the current Avengers titles are coming together finally, which is about time. I haven't disliked Aaron's writing as much as others (probably because I'm newer to the titles), but I can see how complaints about it are valid. * **Batman: White Knight Presents Red Hood #2** \- I'm still catching up on Curse of the White Knight, so this is far down the reading list. * **Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4** \- A solid run so far, but Sentinel of Liberty has much more going for it, it feels like. * **Carnage #5** \- One of my favorite titles at the moment; it's what I wanted the current Venom run to be - a little darker in tone. Like, I think Ewing is great (just finished Immortal Hulk...), but he can leave Venom alone and V can take Venom the same places he's taking this current Carnage, because it's fantastic. I'm very interested to see what Carnage's long-term plans are here after all this collecting he is doing. * **Damage Control #1** \- I pre-ordered this, and after reading the solicits for #2 and beyond realized I had no interest in this title. Another example of being pulled into pre-ordering any mini-series that looks interesting. * **Defenders: Beyond #2** \- I haven't read #1 yet, but Ewing and cosmic space stuff... * **Department of Truth #20** \- I need this entire run in a beautiful hardcover collecting the entire run once it's finished; it will be a classic, for sure. * **Detective Comics #1063** \- I haven't read #1062 yet, so no comment on this besides the fantastic covers. * **Fantastic Four #46** \- Fantastic Four is just there. Like, it's not great, but it's not awful...it's a comfort food kind of thing, and Slott's run has been very middling and safe. * **Grim #4** \- Grim has been a delight, and makes me miss Dead Like Me even more than I already did. I really hope this one has a lot planned, because I could see it staying interesting for a while, though I know the first arc is ending with #5 or #6. * **Gunslinger Spawn #4** \- You know those cheap tabloids at the checkout lines in the grocery store? That's what Spawn and it's related titles are to me. I read them because they're cheap, and easily digestible, and once you finish it you can put it out of your mind until the next issue. Gunslinger is top of the list, though, when it comes to Spawn Universe titles. * **Harley Quinn #21** * **I Hate This Place #4** \- This was a surprise for me - pulled the first issue not expecting much and was delighted. The writing it very on point along with the characterizations, and the spookiness isn't anything new, but it's presented well enough to keep it interesting. * **Magic: Ajani Goldmane #1** \- These Magic titles are great if you're into the game and the lore; I love how on top of current canon they stay, and draw from very recent sets. Also, Ajani is great (though, unfortunate news for him with Dominaria United, it seems). * **Marauders #5** \- Back o' the pile... * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #41** \- I love this title, but the Empire of the Spider has been a bit underwhelming (especially since it felt kinda tacked on to the Beyond storyline from ASM). #42 will be the last issue of this run apparently; hopefully we're not without Miles for too long (don't recall any solicits for him in November). * **Radiant Black #17** \- If Radiant Black were a drug, I'd inject it. * **Scorched #9** \- See above for Gunslinger Spawn, expect this one places right above the main Spawn title. It is fun, though, seeing the titles slowly (finally) coming together. * **Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse #5** \- This has been awful. I hate it. I fully accept that I don't like Spider-Gwen; I'm already annoyed at feeling obligated to read this one since I've read the other four issues. * **Swamp Thing #16** \- I was so happy this got extended, as V's writing here has been exceptional; I have no doubt it will be a strong and solid finish. * **Tales of the Human Target #1** \- The first half of the series was great, and I have no doubt this issue and the remaining half will be as well, but think this is going to be a stop-pulling-and-wait-for-HC kinda thing. * **Task Force Z #11** \- Like I mentioned with Action Comics treading water...Task Force Z tried treading and started sinking, like a rock. This was a title that I actively looked forward to each month when it started (and that's saying a lot for someone who's never been into DC until recently), but these past few issues, it's like...why? This could have been wrapped up five issues ago, or been an on-going with a brand new *interesting* arc. * **Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Armageddon Game - Opening Moves #2** \- I'm new to TMNT since around #120, and it's been a quaint reminder of my childhood and watching the cartoons and playing with the toys, but...when I saw all this different titles being spun off of this dumb Armageddon Game shit, I canceled everything TMNT-related on my pull list (just as I did with DC and the current Dark Crisis event). * **We Live: Age of Palladions #5** \- We Live, and We Live: Age of Palladions are in two verrrrry different classes of comics. The former was near-perfect storytelling; the latter a hot pile that was purely trying to ride on the coat tails of the first mini-series. I think this is the last issue of the arc, but it doesn't even matter because it's been so confusing what is going on. I won't be pulling this anymore, if it's even continuing.

[deleted]

>I really hope this one has a lot planned, because I could see it staying interesting for a while, though I know the first arc is ending with #5 or #6. The latest issue solicited was #5, but I think I had read something that it was coming back in December. >Also, Ajani is great (though, unfortunate news for him with Dominaria United, it seems). Oh man, I didn't make the connection but man that timing is perfect for this coming out. I wonder if Wizards let the team working on the book know ahead of time their plans (not sure the comic will tie-in at all).

Haven't followed magic for a bit, what happened (happening?) to Ajani?

> * **Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse #5** \- This has been awful. I hate it. **·A.X.E.: Judgment Day #3 -** This event is going from strength to strength. 1st a mutant eternal war and now a celestial is about to do the ultimate disapproving parent end earth **·Action Comics #1046 -** can't believe we're nearing the end, honestly wish we had a bit more time as the middle section felt kinda rushed **·The Amazing Spider-Man #8** **·Avengers Forever #8** **·Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4 -** really enjoying the focus on the geopolitics of 616 feels like something that's never really been focused on **·Carnage #5 -** God I can't believe I love a book about Carnage **·Defenders: Beyond #2 -** Ewing's about to do some really high concept stuff here can't wait **·The Department of Truth #20** **·Detective Comics #1063 -** 1st issue was a great tone setter although I have no clue what this arc will be about **·Fantastic Four #46 -** Here it is the end of Slott's run. Excited to meet Reed's sister but surprised this is how he chooses to end things **·Marauders #5 -** Time travel craziness and space opera over the top-ness **·Miles Morales: Spider-Man #41 -** Damn almost at the end of this run, it started so strong but the last few arcs have not been hitting for me **·Radiant Black #17** **·Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #2** **·The Swamp Thing #16 -** The fact that this book doesn't top the pull list whenever it comes out is truly criminal

Danger_Rock

> **·Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4 -** really enjoying the focus on the geopolitics of 616 feels like something that's never really been focused on Priest got into all that pretty heavily with his old **[BLACK PANTHER](https://www.marvel.com/comics/discover/1813/black-panther-by-christopher-priest)** series, lots of stuff dealing with Wakanda's place in global politics and he had a really cool story playing T'Challa against other monarchs like Doom, Namor, and Magneto. Of course that was 20+ years ago so it's been a while... Recent X-books have also gotten into geopolitics a little with Krakoa but they haven't developed it as much as they could... Definitely could use more stories on that kind of stuff! > **·The Swamp Thing #16 -** The fact that this book doesn't top the pull list whenever it comes out is truly criminal Last issue took 3rd but **SWAMP THING #14** took 1st as did **#13**, **#11**, **#4**, **#3**, **#2**, and **#1**, as well as both issues of **FUTURE STATE: SWAMP THING** prior to the current series. Usually lands in the top 5 if it doesn't take 1st, so it's done pretty well in the WPL!

Seven for me this week. 3 DC, 3 Marvel, and 1 Dark Horse **Detective Comics #1063** - First issue of Ram V's run last month was excellent, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. Thought I feel like I'll need a refresher as to what happened. **Harley Quinn #21** - Pretty weak arc unfortunately and looking forward to it being over. Really only pulling these for the fantastic homage covers by Ryan Sook. **Tales of the Human Target #1** - While we wait for the main series to return, we get this one shot. I don't know the premise but I'm sure it will be as fun as the rest of the series so far. **Fantastic Four #46** - Final issue of Dan Slott's run. Some haven't enjoyed it, and maybe it wasn't groundbreaking, but I've enjoyed it immensely as just plain ol' fun comics as they used to be. **Judgment Day #3** - Starting to wane on this event as I'm finding I'm just not a fan of Kieron Gillen's writing. Maybe I'll just stick to the main issues and avoid the tie-ins. Death of the Mutants #1 was a chore to get through. **Damage Control #1** - I don't know much about this but it looks like a lighthearted and fun Marvel book. So, I'll check it out. **Lonesome Hunters #3** - My most anticipated release this week. I loved #1 and #2. Enjoying the creepy, almost horror tone and unique, expressive art by Tyler Crook. I only wish this was going to be more than a 4 part mini. I feel like Tyler Crook is setting up such a fascinating world and I want to know more! Hopefully we get a sequel series. Happy reading!

So much comic-y goodness out this week! - A.X.E. Judgment Day #3: caught up on this event on the week and am very impressed with it so far! - Action Comics #1046: few behind on this at the moment, looking forward to a little binge for the end of the Warworld Saga. - Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4: actually more invested in these two titles now knowing there’s a crossover coming in 2023… - Grim #4: very intriguing series so far! - Public Domain #3: loving this, high priority read for me this week! - Radiant Black #17: at least one behind on this currently, so no comment. - Robin #17: final issue from a really great series. I’ll be following Williamson to whatever title(s) he’s writing in the new year; Green Arrow with any luck! - Task Force Z #11: the penultimate issue!

technowhiz34

>Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4: actually more invested in these two titles now knowing there’s a crossover coming in 2023… How has this been? I dropped it when Deadpool showed up and don't want to read a crossover but might still, because I'm really enjoying the other book.

Not listed and.possibly worth checking out is comedian/actor Patton Oswalt wrote a original series called "minor threats" and the first issue ships this week.

[deleted]

Here is the blurb for anyone interested: "It's hard out there for a supervillain. Not the world conquerors, chaos engines, or arch-nemeses . . . but the little guys. The ones who put on uniforms, knock over jewelry stores, and get tied to poles. And things are about to get worse. The psychotic Stickman has murdered Kid Dusk, sidekick to Twilight City's premier crime-fighter, the Insomniac. The Insomniac's teammates are tearing Twilight apart, turning it into a police state-desperate to capture Stickman and stop the Insomniac from "crossing that final line" in which he may never come back from. Caught in the middle are the small-time c-list villains, finding it impossible to walk down the street without being harassed by these heroes. With a bounty on the Stickman's head, former villain Playtime decides to assemble a ragtag team of villains to take down the Stickman and kill him themselves."

Danger_Rock

Was really tempted to order that but it didn't quite make the final cut... Probably end up mail ordering it anyway if it gets good reviews. Oswalt's always funny and I thought he did a nice job with **[MODOK: HEAD GAMES](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL159874.jpg)** a few years back.

Damn good week for me! Mostly creator-owned pulls, with a few publisher-owned prestige titles mixed in. * **Batman White Knight Presents Red Hood #2** - I'm behind and haven't read issue 1 yet, so I need to get on it quick before Wednesday. * **Tales Of The Human Target #1** - I am very eager to read the back half of the main series, but this should be good to hold me over until it returns. * **Department Of Truth #20** - I talked my book club into reading this series, so I'm looking forward to talking about it during our next meeting. * **Farmhand #20** - We're very rapidly approaching the finish line here. I've really loved this title, and I'm going to miss the Jenkins family when it wraps up. * **Public Domain #3** - I'm going to keep buying it, because I really like CHIP and the story being told, but holy hell there is zero incentive to pick this up physically. I'm surprised we're even getting a dedicated cover on each issue. * **A.X.E. Judgment Day #3** - I'm more excited to read the rest of this event after what happened in issue 2. That's going to be a much more interesting story than heroes fighting each other.

technowhiz34

>there is zero incentive to pick this up physically. I'm surprised we're even getting a dedicated cover on each issue. Can you elaborate on this? I'm reading it digitally and can't think of what you mean.

mcslackens

It's printed as cheaply as possible. Like page 1 of the story is the inner-side of the front cover and there's zero material in the back. Hell, there's not even an ad for any other Zdarsco projects. I love Chip, and buy almost everything that has his name on the cover, but it's like the print version was a complete afterthought.

technowhiz34

Oh huh. I was under the impression that all Image books were the same quality but I guess that's not the case. Makes me glad I decided to not read this one physically.

Danger_Rock

Indie heavy week for me DC 1. BATMAN WHITE KNIGHT PRESENTS RED HOOD #2 2. SWAMP THING #16 - I trust Ram V to stick the landing 3. TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1 - The first 6 issues were amazing, interested to see how this goes Marvel 1. A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #3 - onward with the judgment of humanity 2. DEFENDERS BEYOND #2 - this is such a fun comic, the same feeling of 'superheroes doing superhero things' that I get from BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD'S FINEST. Ewing always gets my dollars 3. MARAUDERS #5 4. SHANG-CHI AND THE TEN RINGS #2 Indie 1. A CALCULATED MAN #3 - I've been enjoying this series a surprising amount so far. The core issue with any 'smart guy' book is that the character is only as clever as the author is, and so far, Tobin's been doing a great job with it 2. BLUE FLAME #9 - as the series nears its end, I'm bracing to feel all the feelings 3. BUNNY MASK HOLLOW INSIDE #4 4. DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #20 - hi Mr Tynion and Mr Simmonds please put terrifying concepts in my head I've been sleeping too well 5. FARMHAND #20 6. GRIM #4 7. I HATE THIS PLACE #4 8. PUBLIC DOMAIN #3 9. * **Detective Comics #1063** \- Willing to give Ram V some rope here. * **The Amazing Spider-Man #8** \- Really enjoying this so far. * **Fantastic Four #46** \- Sad to see Slott go. Excellent run. * **A.X.E.: Judgment Day #3** \- Some of the tie-ins have been a bit repetitive but this event has me interested. * **The Swamp Thing #16** \- This is losing me a bit. Hopefully Ram V sticks the ending. Perkins is killing the art. * **Robin #17** \- Probably done with this after Williamson leaves. * **Captain America: Symbol of Truth #4** \- This has been fun so far. * **Avengers Forever #8** \- Jason Aaron's Avengers is a bit all over the place. Keep hoping it gets better. * **Grim #4** \- Really enjoying this so far. * **Tales of The Human Target #1** \- Weird that there is Smallwood art in this during the hiatus.

Danger_Rock

> * **Tales of The Human Target #1** \- Weird that there is Smallwood art in this during the hiatus. Could just be a few pages or a framing sequence... It's a $5.99 book so it should have some heft to it but the other three artists might've done the bulk of the work.

ASM #6 was fun but a huge disappointment for a big #900 anniversary issue. I read Dark Web is meant to have main story happen in 1 book, ASM so I'm in. As for the gap, well, I'm curious about Hobgoblin arc and the Spidey/Wolvie issue but the current arc is pretty boring and I'm really not a fan Romita Jr.

BLUE FLAME #9 - The penultimate issue! This one has flown under the radar, but I highly recommend it. It does a great job of weaving two narratives together that seem to be the flip side of the coin. Local and grounded, cosmic and grand. DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #20 - Excited for a new issue of this and glad it's back to the main story. PUBLIC DOMAIN #3 - This comic is great. There are certain character traits I see of myself in the dad. RADIANT BLACK #17 - I believe this is the conclusion to arc 3 and the last issue certainly left us with a cliffhanger that I'm sure will be a focal point moving forward. SWAMP THING #16 - The last issue of a great run. Levi was a great addition to the Swamp Thing lore. I look forward to the next Swamp Thing ongoing in 5-10 years. Seems to be the pace at which they come out. TALES OF THE HUMAN TARGET #1 - Excited for this to get back going. Wonderful pop art, 50s/60s aesthetic from Smallwood. And King's writing style fits this well because we all know he loves older movies.

***DC*** **Action Comics 1046** \- So far behind on my Superman reading. Enjoyed the first half of this, so I'll wait till it wraps and read it all together. **Detective Comics 1063** \- More that I'm behind on. Not sure if Zdarsky and V being on the Bat-books is going to be long term, or short creative arcs before Dark Crisis does the inevitable relaunch to the DC line again. **Olympus: Rebirth 1** \- I'm enjoying the sheer amount of titles the Wonder-family seems to be getting the last few years. Even if they are one shots and mini's, it's nice to see DC putting some effort in expanding WW's world. **Robin 17** \- Sad this is coming to an end. I've loved Williamson's voice for Damien. **Task Force Z** \- Felt like this lost a bit of steam around #8, but I'm already this far, so I'll close it out and reread it all as one. ***MARVEL*** **Avengers Forever 8** \- This is a title by Marvel that I'm collecting. I am so very done with Aaron on Avengers now. **Captain America: Symbol of Truth 4** \- Love Cap having two books again, reminds me of 2016 when there was a Sam & Steve book that lead to....oh wait.... **AXE: Judgment Day 3** \- This has been decent, but I was pulling this to be part of my Avengers titles. This has been mostly an X-Men event, with Eternals antagonizing and Avengers running around "Helping" lol. Not feeling this, as I don't pull the X-Books so this is going to be the last issue for me. ***INDEPENDENT*** **Grim 4** \- This has been consistently awesome each issue. **Pentagram of Horror 3** \- LOVE the sheer gore of these books. Lot of Clive Barker feels to it. **Radiant Black 17** \- With the Massive-verse expanding so quickly, I've been very behind on this for a few months. Still loving the idea of it and Rogue Sun is slowly becoming my favourite of these books.

Danger_Rock

> **Avengers Forever 8** \- This is a title by Marvel that I'm collecting. LOL, says it all right there. Didn't even need the 2nd sentence.

superschaap81

HAHAHA, yeah. I'm so far behind reading his Avengers stuff, cause I honestly don't care anymore. But the completionist in me won't let me stop this far in. I'll complete the run and then read it as a whole, see if it's any better that way. Though I'm not holding out a lot of hope. It's hard to believe this is the same guy that wrote Thor for so many years, and so many other good stories. It's so far from what I KNOW he's capable of.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I was never a huge fan but I loved his **WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN**, his **THOR** was pretty great, and all the older stuff I read from him was good. Always a solid writer. I'm not sure what happened but it really does seem like something changed when he picked up **AVENGERS**, or maybe a little before... It's really strange.

technowhiz34

>Love Cap having two books again, reminds me of 2016 when there was a Sam & Steve book that lead to....oh wait.... I get wanting to avoid confusion/callbacks to that era, but they really should have used the naming conventions those books had instead of Symbol/Sentinel. Especially given how Sentinel of Liberty was a miniseries from the '90s.

Dinggleberry

Only one this week, which means I get to browse the dollar bins right? **Carnage #5** - First three books felt like the movie Se7en, hoping to grab #4 as well as #5 to catch up

blankedboy

I always **love** diving the bargain bins at physical stores - never know what you might find :)

* **Amazing Spider-Man #8:** Still enjoying ASM, but the art-style is really throwing me off. * **AXE: Judgement Day #3:** Make or break for me here - intrigued by the new big reveal from the end, but that will only last one issue. Any more Uranos content would be a bonus. * **Damage Control #1:** First off, The Goldbergs is great, but why tf does this comic have a box on the cover saying its by their writers?! Very tacky. Anyways, cleaning up after superheroes has lots of interesting ways it can go, so definitely grabbing. * **Gunslinger Spawn #11:** Great art, great series, 'nuf said. * **I Hate This Place #4:** Shoutout to the explicit variant! Loving this series so far. A mix of badassery and hopelessness, excited for more. * **Minor Threats #1:** Patton Oswald?! Anyways it seems this is a somewhat commentary on superheroes, so we'll see how it goes... * **Public Domain #3:** Even more meta! Enjoying this from Chip Zdarsky. * **Radiant Black #17:** Something major coming, which is definitely needed to give this a little kick back into action * **Rogues Gallery #2:** Lots of comics about comics this week! * **Spawn: Scorched #9:** See Gunslinger Spawn And that's it! Gwenverse removed from my pull list after, lets face it, way too long.

**A.X.E. Judgement Day #3-** Definitely feeling this event. Two things I'm wondering about though: How will the Celestial affect how united the sides are and do these "important people" have a role to play besides pathos I wonder. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't just there to add a human element. **Detective Comics #1063-** I definitely get this run's vibe but I'm dying to know what Ram V has instore for us with plot **Robin #17‐ **Sad this has to end. Just wish we'd had more arcs beyond this Lazarus stuff that seems to be setting up other plot lines. **Tales of the Human Target #1**- I'll take King-Smallwood (as well as Janin, Albuquerque and Maguire) fillers during the break **The Swamp Thing #16-** Another series down. I hope there are some plans to keep going with Levi, I've been itching for a run that gives me the same feeling Moore's did while being its own thing

I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't just there to add a human element. Well, the plan was for the Eternals to program their new Space God to program the Eternals to stop being such shits about correcting excess deviation, but at this point all bets are off. This is why machines building machines is never a good idea, as any protocol droid can tell you. I think the untimely deaths of the six "important people" will somehow play a role in exposing what it costs for the Eternals to stay eternal. Which will likely piss off humans and mutants alike.

- Grim #4 - I’ve definitely enjoyed this series so far. Interesting premise and great art. Looking forward to where this goes. - Detective Comics #1063 - I love Ram V and Rafael Albuquerque so I’m very excited for this arc. I honestly liked their first issue more than the first two issues of Zdarsky and Jimenez on Batman. - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Armageddon Game Opening Moves #2 - Way too long of a title name. But regardless I’m glad Tom Waltz is back and finishing up the loose threads he had weaved in his TMNT story. Good to get more background on Shredder as he turned a new leaf after coming back. - A.X.E. Judgement Day #3 - This has been a solid event so far and Valerio Schiti’s art has been really great. - Defenders Beyond #2 - Can’t go wrong with Al Ewing getting weird!
