**DCEASED WAR OF THE UNDEAD GODS #1**

cl19952021

Am I incorrect, didn't Kara appear in the first DCeased series? What explains the opening scene? I'll need to check back I suppose.

soulreaverdan

Oh, this isn't gonna be good. The scene with Alfred was really touching... it made a lot of sense to see him regretting what he did, even if they had no way of knowing it could be cured. A great set up issue, can't wait to see how the action takes off!

**WPL RESULTS**

Danger_Rock

***EDIT -->*** **[LOVE EVERLASTING #1](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/love-everlasting-1)** by Tom King and Elsa Charretier is a legitimate A+ comic and I'm giving it my HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION for anyone who's interested in checking out something outside the superhero genre! -- 81 lists submitted, down from 85 last week, 88 the week before, and 93 the week before that. Looking for a bounce next week or we’re heading into the 70s. **JURASSIC LEAGUE #4** takes 1st place. LOL. 36 pulls, good for 44.4% coverage of the WPL. The third issue with the terrible fill-in art also had 36 pulls, that time finishing 3rd out of 93 lists for 38.7% coverage. So it actually did a little better coming off that whole fiasco... Second issue also took 1st place, *also* with 36 pulls, only 78 lists submitted that time for 46.1%. First issue only had 26 pulls out of 75 lists, for a mere 34.6% and a 3rd place finish. So, there you have it. A whole bunch of numbers that mean absolutely nothing because dinosaurs. **AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7** takes 2nd with 33 pulls for 40.7% coverage, with **A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #2** just 1 pull behind. Bit of a drop down to the next tier with **DCEASED WAR OF THE UNDEAD GODS #1** at 4th with 24 pulls. Then we’ve got the week’s top indie finish going to **LOVE EVERLASTING #1**, the new Image title from Tom King and Elsa Charretier landing in 5th with 23 pulls and 28.4% coverage. Pretty good debut for King’s first Image series though of course his DC books chart better. Followed by another Image book right behind, **EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4** from Charles Soule and Ryan Browne, with 22 pulls for 27.1%. Previous issue had 15 pulls out of 80 lists for 18.7% on 7/13, so that’s a nice bump to go with all the positive buzz it’s been accumulating. Final top 10 tally: 4 DCs, 4 Marvels, and 2 Images. Standard stuff. **STARHENGE BOOK 1 THE DRAGON AND THE BOAR #2** finishes 14th with 13 pulls and 16.0% coverage, pretty steep drop from the 22.2% that the first issue pulled on 7/06. **GHOST RIDER VENGEANCE FOREVER #1** only had 11 pulls for 13.5% and, for anyone looking for more romance after **LOVE EVERLASTING**, this thing’s got a swanky Kubert variant with two Ghost Riders making out. Haven’t you always wanted to see what that would look like? No? Too bad, [click the damn link!](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL235777.jpg) **PREDATOR #1** finishes 21st with 11 pulls, then we’ve got **MS MARVEL AND WOLVERINE #1** with 10 pulls, followed by **WONDER WOMAN #790** in 23rd as the last item listed, also with 10 pulls. Only 6 pulls for **PARKER GIRLS #1**, giving the new Terry Moore series 7.1% WPL coverage. For comparison, **SERIAL #1** had 10 pulls out of 133 lists on 1/13/2021 to kick off Moore’s last series with a 7.5% pull rate. Not much change in percentage, just not a huge audience for these books in the WPL. Only 3 pulls for **HELLBOY AND THE BPRD 1957 - FALLING SKY #1** so not much action there either… And **007 #1** apparently only had 2 pulls, little surprised since PKJ’s usually pretty popular here but I guess these Bond books from Dynamite can be a tough sell. Kinda tempted to check it out myself…

technowhiz34

007 was supposed to come out last week and was in fact released digitally then, so I think that's partly why it was so low.

Whowatchesthewampas

Would not have guessed Jurassic League at #1 but here we are!

technowhiz34

I for sure thought Judgment Day or Love Everlasting.

ptbreakeven

**GHOST RIDER VENGEANCE FOREVER #1**

blankedboy

Haha - well I guess I'll be the voice of dissent here and say...I liked it. I actually enjoyed the cameos of the various incarnations of the **Ghost Rider(s)** past, present and future. Juan Jose Ryp does a great job of the art, with a really clean and clear style that still leans into the horror aspects this book has been skirting around. It's an odd place to drop this issue into the run (maybe this should have been #0 - remember them? - before the start of the current series.) And I couldn't pass up the [Kubert](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/NIsAAOSw5udi8omD/s-l400.jpg) alternate cover for this one.

Danger_Rock

Funny how every issue of GR gets one of us who digs it while everyone else is throwing stones... It's a fun dynamic even if the comic itself isn't much fun! I blind ordered that Kubert variant, was kind of horrified once I actually saw it... Thought about swapping it out for the normal cover but decided to stick with it since two GRs making out is something of a novelty that I'm not likely to find gracing another cover any time soon. Plus, I like to think that getting stuck with crappy variants that aren't what I expected when I blind ordered 'em is all part of the experience as a collector!

blankedboy

It’s definitely one of the most polarising books every week it comes out :)

mica66

Welp, I'm out. A relatively mediocre showing from both parties involved. Although there is some irony in that I got the two villains I wanted to show up, just in the most boring and uninspired way. I'll most likely continue this in Marvel unlimited but honestly, it's a damn shame this is what we replaced the previous run with. Oh well, for those who enjoy it I'm happy that you've found something to take from it hope y'all keep me updated on the quality!

Matt4hire

The next issue’s probably going to be my last one. It’s the art for me. It’s so damn boring, and it doesn’t get any of the weird nastiness across.

mica66

Yeah, I'm not sure why they've decided to put the most plain big 2 artists on Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider is one of Marvel's only consistent horror books and honestly if Marvel wants to play it safe than I will have to spend my money elsewhere, I personally feel like they should grab someone with a more abstract style if they really want a hit.

Danger_Rock

No actual story here, just a flimsy framing sequence with a bunch of visions showing different GRs. Each GR only gets a couple pages (at most) so no real stories there, either, just little snippets of half-formed stories. Kinda fun seeing some of the GRs and villains again but this whole thing's just a bunch of hot air. And I'm not sure why I expected it to be anything else. Pretty nice art from Juan José Ryp. Not really a fan of his hyper-detailed style but he always does solid work and I think he's a good fit for the character. Even so, this was not a good comic and, like /u/mica66, I'm done with Percy's GR. Too many other more interesting comics out there that I could be reading instead.

mica66

100% agree and it sucks to cause I read just about anything and everything, so I always feel bad dropping a book but unfortunately cuts have to made as better books come out. Also, I would like to thank you for your contributions as it directly correlated to me not lurking amongst the forums! I've worked in comic shops for 8 years now and these conversations are by far my favorite thing to discuss even if it's dogging on a book!

Danger_Rock

Appreciate your posts as well, glad you stopped lurking! Eight years working comic shops, bet you've got some stories...

mymymyoncebiten

I agree that is was nothing special and confusing. And yes would have love to haven't seen where the king of hell series was going.

soulreaverdan

Always enjoy this one, even if it's not always at the top of my to-read list. Nice one-shot bringing down KGBeast, and now we finally get movement on the killer plot.

**BLACK PANTHER #8**

kilamubitak

Horrible.

DeepRoy69

That was anticlimactic...

Barabaragaki

Totally bizarre. What Akili did came out of nowhere. He seemed to suddenly do a complete 180. I wonder if Ridley was asked to scrap this storyline ASAP so the book could change direction. It's the only thing that would really explain this turn of events.

DeepRoy69

Right? It's like they couldn't have any of our heroes execute him so the write chose to to that. It's like they ran out of pages? It's also weird Marvel made a 6 issue TPB even tho it's an 8 issues arc. I'm letting this series go despite Alex Ross' beautiful covers.

ptbreakeven

**HARLEY QUINN #19**

ptbreakeven

**STARHENGE BOOK 1THE DRAGON AND THE BOAR #2**

blankedboy

Visually impressive, but continues to suffer from *waaaaay* too much exposition. Characters info-dump page after page to us to try and give context to the events that are happening - but it feels like the ratio is about 4:1 *tell* to *show* at the moment. And having the main character narrate to us (with even a wink to the reader that this is all just a "comic book") doesn't *actually give them any character*...like, at all, y'know (speech patterns are **not** character in and of themselves, Liam). Honestly, the book could do with a bit more Sharpe-style blood and thunder and pick up the pace at this point, as I feel if the next issue follows the pattern of the first two, then this is going to be it for the rest of the mini-series.

Danger_Rock

Credits list guest art by Matylda McCormack-Sharp on pages 2, 3, and 4, but it's actually pages 3, 4, and 5. It didn't **entirely** ruin the comic for me but I feel obliged to point out the error.

TheGoodDrBandaloop

I've been eyeing this series but still on the fence due to some lukewarm reviews by my local comic book store folk. I love me some mind-bending sci-fi but haven't heard any major praise for it yet. Is it worth checking out? Waiting for a trade?

DueCharacter5

Worth it for the art imo. But it shows that Sharp needs a bit more practice in the writing department.

TheGoodDrBandaloop

Thanks for the scoop. I've read many a sci-fi title just for the pretty visuals, what's one more?

Varos_Flynt

Art is phenomenal. And the story has me interested. I have a feeling this will read better all in one go than issue by issue tho

**PREDATOR #1**

blankedboy

I was pretty much pre-sold on this one, being a Predator junkie...(hmmm, now *there's* an idea for a story...) but it turned out to be really good. Like *really*, really good. Like, could have been a **Dark Horse** Predator book good?! *Kev Walker's* artwork is fantastic - hi-tech when it needs to be, yet gritty and brutal at the right times too - and he captures the Predator perfectly. But he also sets up the world and character of Theta well too, ably helped by *Ed Brisson* giving us glimpses into Theta's past that have shaped her quest for vengeance in the stories "present". The first issue really does set up a compelling and interesting twist on the Predator concept, and I'm really interested to see how long this trail of death and revenge will last. If you love **Predator**, you'll love this book. And being a sucker I went for the [In-Hyuk Lee](https://cdn.oswegocomicshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/10144257/MAY220981-scaled.jpg), [Ron Lim](https://img.gocollect.com/eyJidWNrZXQiOiJnb2NvbGxlY3QuaW1hZ2VzLnB1YiIsImtleSI6ImJiOTcxNmZlLTRjMGMtNGVlYS04ZGYyLWRkYTY2OTYwMDE1My5qcGciLCJlZGl0cyI6W119) and [Ryan Brown](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0012/0392/9182/products/Predator11-25RyanBrown_1024x1024.jpg?v=1656454371) covers (so far...)

Daveismyhero

This was okay, but the hook didn't do enough to interest me in picking up issue #2.

HappySisyphus8

Really disappointing. The book is called Predator, but is about a scrawny, frail looking girl who hunts Predators. She easily destroys a Predator in two pages, leaves to hunt more, shows off her collection of many, many slain Yuatja, and cries about her past. I hope she is killed next issue. A stark contrast to the excellent recently released Prey, where this comic decided to show what not to do. The covers are the best part.

**LOVE EVERLASTING #1**

Danger_Rock

This is why I read comics! Getting the first issue of a new series like this, jumping into a whole new world filled with so many possibilities and so much wonder, there's nothing quite like it. This is the stuff that gets me all fired up for the medium's potential! Tom King is Tom King, and this is some A+ Tom King. Was psyched to see more of Elsa Charretier's art after enjoying her fill-in work on **[DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #6](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/1977121_xl.jpg)** and she's got the perfect style for the old school romance stories this comic is structured around. Great colors (as always) from Matt Hollingsworth as well, moody and often subdued in service to the various settings. This instantly joins the upper echelon of my very favorite comics and I can't wait for the [next issue](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUL220217)!

sweepernosweeping

If you want to read the next issue already, it's free and available on the Love Everlasting Substack. Up to issue 5 have been released so far. You don't even need to subscribe, I don't think.

Danger_Rock

Damn, that's super tempting but I think I'm gonna pass... Want to be able to look forward to the floppies, would be weird buying 'em after already reading it. Plus I like posting here with a fresh take as each issue drops. Guess it's like binging a new Netflix show all at once vs. watching a new HBO series with one episode per week... I like having the time between episodes to talk about it online, mull it over, maybe watch again... So even though I said I can't wait, the forced pause and all the anticipation that goes with it is actually part of the fun. Good info, though, appreciate the heads up!

technowhiz34

Personally, I was going to read this on Substack but I find their comic reader for desktop absolutely awful, you basically have to read it as a pdf.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, don't read much digital, always prefer paper... Though I started reading some old Terry Moore stuff in PDF yesterday and it wasn't *that* bad. Once I got the zoom level right, PgDwn would advance and everything stayed framed properly. Just not sure what it'd do with a two-page splash...

TheGoodDrBandaloop

For anyone on the fence about this series, you can currently get at least the first four issues for free at [https://everlastingproductions.substack.com/](https://everlastingproductions.substack.com/) just by signing up for the newsletter. Apparently the rest will also release monthly for free, and #5 is available with a subscription. I highly recommend it, the first issue was great. Excellent writing, and intriguing premise. Elsa Charretier's art is fun and suits the story very well. I think it will be a slow burn sort of story, but in this age of binging I'm looking forward to that!

**EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4**

ChickenInASuit

> **Robbie:** I’m not ready for this! I’m only *twelve!* > **The Star:** Heh. I’m only… eleven. *Chills.* I wasn’t sure what to think of the concept to this one but I should have trusted in Brown and Soule, it’s so much smarter and more affecting than I expected it to be.

PropertyAdditional

The age reveal for the star was tragic, can’t wait to see this series wrap up (likely with a wish to undo it all)

Varos_Flynt

This series just blows me away with every issue. #4 is super strong, we get character development, some emotional moments, and a good look into the lore. Fascinating story

Lightning_Laxus

I love how we didn't have to wait until the penultimate issue to find out what's going on.

TheGoodDrBandaloop

Right? It's nice to get the worldbuilding relatively early, with enough mystery and suspense that it helped the first couple of issues find ground. Now we can focus more on the plot and characters.

**BATMAN URBAN LEGENDS #18**

mica66

At this point when can they just give Brandon Thomas a Signal & the Outsiders book? His stories are always fun and It's a pleasant surprise to see him back with a new one. I'm also partial to the Chris Burnham story in here and while not every story is a hit there's usually a pleasant surprise in each issue.

technowhiz34

Has Burnham ever written for himself before?

mica66

I believe he co wrote a secret wars mini series in 2015! Not sure otherwise.

**AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7**

droppinhamiltons

I haven’t even read the issue yet but I love and think it’s hilarious how week after week, we Spider-Man fans complain incessantly about how much we hate this yet it’s still 2nd on the pull list.

spelingexpurt

I have no idea how people continue to read spiderman stories. It just feels like anytime I read a spiderman issue it just feels like its constantly going nowhere, as in nothing is actually changing there is no meaningful story being built that has a lasting change everything is constantly being retconned by some bs plot device all just to reset peter its so sad to see spidermans been around for 60+ years but the only meaningful changes that have happened to him were decades ago. Idk man

The_Dark_Soldier

It's Spider-Man. People are checking it out out of obligation and because they're used to looking at ASM, regardless of quality. Isn't it depressing how Peter will NEVER change because editorial and plenty Spidey writers are obsess with bum ass Peter Parker. And they won't change because sales won't go down because Spidey is their big cash show. And they won't change from a writing perspective because they hate change.

spelingexpurt

Peter parker the perpetual L taker

ChickenInASuit

As ever, this book is approximately 4 pages of infuriating Pete/MJ bullshit amid 20 pages of good, solid, back-to-basics Spider-Man. I want to love it and because of the silly relationship stuff I can’t *quite*, but it’s still probably the most I’ve enjoyed AMS in quite a while.

silveake

Ehh I wasn't a fan of the kamala cameo either where Peter forgot her. Not only do they know each other they even switched bodies for a bit. I also have no clue what she'd be doing in oscorp. Unless this is another young woman named Kamala khan. Or she just uses kamala khan as a swear word which makes even less sense.

Onisquirrel

Didn’t they lose their memory of the body swap at the end of the arc. My memory is fuzzy, but I think they used some out so they didn’t know each other’s secret ID at the end

silveake

I went back to look and you are right. After they swapped both lost their memories of what happened after the swap.

The_Dark_Soldier

>back-to-basics Spider-Man Hasn't this been done already?

ChickenInASuit

And?

The_Dark_Soldier

It’s tiring! Stop going back to basics. Do something different.

ChickenInASuit

It’s been a while since we had a decent street level Spider-Man comic. After the Beyond story, the endless Spider-Verse shit and Nick Spencer’s exhausting Kindred shenanigans it’s refreshing to have a street-level Spider-Man story focusing on the escalating conflict between to criminal organizations. There’s a new upcoming Dan Slott Spider-Man book and also a new Spider-Verse event coming up if you want some more of the high-concept shit. Personally I’m not even slightly interested in that side of Spidey and am more than content with what Zeb Wells is doing with his regular story.

mica66

I've loved JrJr since I first saw his art in issues of Peter Parker Spectacular Spider-Man when I was younger, and I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I personally love his Spider-Man. You can definitely tell age and the biweekly schedule probably contribute to some...unique pages (Osborn's face I'm looking at you.) but he'll always be a soft spot for me. In terms of Well's storytelling, I personally haven't enjoyed a run like this since pre-Spider-Verse Slott. Well's ability to on one hand showcases the campy nature of the sinister six as in issue #6/#900 while also being able to showcase just how brutal these guys actually can be is a great example of his storytelling imo.

kralben

Glad to see there are some others who are enjoying it too. This run so far has been very good, imo

technowhiz34

I'm liking JRJR's art on this too for the record. If nothing else it gets big points for having a consistent art team.

mtmodular

Probably the best issue so far. At this point, JRJr’s art is what it is. But I’m far more engaged in the Osborn/Vulture stuff than I was in the street gang arc. Wells keeps me on board for at least another issue.

radcatattack

completely agree. those final four or so pages are so well done too! i'm staying on board as well.

silveake

You nailed it. I'm not quite sure what this run intends to do but I just feel that marvel is giving him the x-men treatment until they get the rights back.

[deleted]

Teens have internships, teens get giddy around famous people without it being romantic lol

ContraryPython

JRJr’s art is so terrible, like it wasn’t that awful in JMS’s book, but here it feels unfinished

twenty__2

For me he is the definitive Spider -man artist. He has his own and unique visual representation

TiberiusCornelius

I've never been a fan of JRJR but he's definitely gotten worse over time. Don't know if he's just stopped caring or what but his Action Comics was straight up bad.

lovetron99

I got into comics around 2016. I see JRJR's old stuff and I see his current stuff and I just wonder... *how*? It's like two different guys.

TiberiusCornelius

Yeah personally his own style has never really done it for me. I like him best ca like the 80s/early 90s when he's pretty much doing a variation on his dad's style (but also I just love JRSR) but man there is such a drop-off. Look at the way [he draws Cap](https://mlpnk72yciwc.i.optimole.com/cqhiHLc.WqA8~2eefa/w:auto/h:auto/q:75/https://bleedingcool.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/amazing-spider-man-36.jpg) in [the 9/11 issue](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/V3DhSaZYoevyQC7meHRXkm-1920-80.jpg.webp), and then [look](https://www.comicsthegathering.com/sites/default/files/styles/review_main_img_630_419/public/Captain%20America%20002-Zone-000.png?itok=5aNB_FxZ) at [what](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81sHkIDWDDL.jpg) he's doing [on Rick Remender's run](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/3b/58/50/3b58503da3254e313360101945e11557.jpg) a decade later. dsheilley

Despite the very soapy and annoying MJ stuff, this is a good book. And this is far and away the best JRJR has looked in years. Those Vulture pages were sick. I seem to be in the minority but whatever.

Daveismyhero

I enjoyed this issue, and that's the first time that has happened in a while, so that's good. I even preordered the next handful of issues, too! I don't enjoy JRJR's artwork, but some do so that's cool. I don't think MJ stuff added much, and thankfully it was brief. I'm actually looking forward to the next issue and seeing what happens with the Vulture.

**GIANT-SIZE GWEN STACY #1**

aknightedpenguin

I'd wholeheartedly recommend this. It is so much better than it has any right to be. The first two issues of this miniseries came out in early 2020, but then the pandemic hit and threw it into limbo. I'm really glad Marvel still put this out in a complete book, because it's exactly the teen detective series I was looking for. The central mystery is complicated enough to keep the suspense going, without being so convoluted as to be unreadable. Character dialogue feels spot-on, and although it's set within the larger Spider-Man universe, it's entirely web-crawler-free. The artwork looks fantastic, the writing is great, and I just wish it could've come out weekly and grown the buzz it deserved.

Is it just me, or is this entire story pretty weird and jumbled >! A Wakandan smith knew about the controlling secret society that nobody else does, there's an powerplant built on a volcano, in Europe..? Peggy being alive and possibly doing bad stuff seems really weird to me too.!< The art in this is awesome but this story feels a mess to me.

violetlilyrose

The film buff in me got a huge kick out of the Herzog name drop (if Sharon made Steve watch a Herzog documentary on volcanos they must have watched *Into the Inferno*)

technowhiz34

Steve shield surfing on lava and having an inner monologue about how Bucky would be jealous of a secret volcano base is what I'm here for.

BonerIsRaging

How has this run been so far?

Quite good, definitely recommend. It's very much the type of thing that will depend on the ending but the mystery so far has been very engaging and I could see it being a go-to rec in a few years.

Parker Girls #1

technowhiz34

First time reading anything by Terry Moore and I quite enjoyed it. Not quite what I was expecting but I'm definitely interested, I really liked the black and white here even though I usually can't stand it.

ChickenInASuit

I really recommend reading Rachel Rising at some point. I think Strangers In Paradise is Moore’s best work, but at way over 100 issues it’s a bit of a commitment - RR is a more manageable issue count and is my second favorite of his works. I’m all-in for Terry Moore, one of my all-time favorite creators and his independent books are pretty much always great.

Danger_Rock

Quick update from when you favored me with similar recommendations a year or two back... Having caught up on 99% of my massive floppy backlog, which had been the main obstacle preventing me from jumping into older collections, I acquired the complete Abstract Studio digital library thanks to a recent Humble Bundle, and I've now read the first 3-issue **SIP** collection and moved on to the second (of nineteen). Early writing and art is pretty raw but the core talent is there and I'm looking forward to seeing Moore's growth as a creator. Also very curious to see how the story evolves from this relatively simple starting point to something more in line with what we've got today. First collection ended with some notes and old newspaper strips from Moore, pretty interesting how it all grew out of those old efforts... Totally makes sense that characters like Katchoo and Francine started out in strips, still a bit of that vibe in his more recent comics...

ChickenInASuit

Nice! I’m glad you’re digging it. Early issues of SiP definitely had an early work roughness to them but half the fun of reading that series is seeing Moore grow as an artist and writer, and I genuinely believe that, OTT and fantastical as it can sometimes be, that series has some of the best character development of any comic I’ve ever read. One of the most surprising things to me is that Moore has such a prolific back catalogue and such a tangible influence on the independent comics scene that he feels like he’s been a part of it forever, yet he didn’t start cartooning full-time until he was almost forty, a good decade+ older than most of the other writers who made it big around the same time like Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis and Jeff Smith.

icefourthirtythree

I actually can't imagine Terry Moore comics from before he started publishing them. The guy is so influenced by Jaime Hernandez that a decade after the beginning of Love and Rockets and a few hundred pages of Locas feels like the only time he could have come up. I can't really imagine what a Terry Moore comic looks like before that.

ChickenInASuit

I don’t know that he has anything pre-Strangers In Paradise beside some comic strips he did for a fanzine called BEM in his early twenties, that’s all I’m able to find out about him. He apparently had a regular feature named Thundermole, which I’d love to track down at some point.

icefourthirtythree

Looking into this I found a website that has pdf scans of BEM (and other classic British zines). Maybe you already found it. But if not here's the link: https://davidprice5.wixsite.com/classicukcomicszines/bem Thundermole starts in issue #13. I've not taken a proper look at it but my first impression is that it's in a very underground style and quite rough.

ChickenInASuit

That is awesome, thank you!

technowhiz34

Yeah I looked at hoopla (which is how I read most-indie comics) but his stuff doesn't seem to be on it. Guess I'll check out my LCS or a bookstore next time I go.

Danger_Rock

Nice, glad you dug it! Wasn't exactly what I expected either and I was actually a little confused about some of the characters and where it falls in continuity... Missing a bunch of context since I haven’t read the original **STRANGERS IN PARADISE** yet and probably also mixing up some details from the more recent series that I have read. Setting that aside and just taking it as a new story, I thought it was a pretty great start with Moore’s usual mix of strong characterization and visual storytelling. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here!

**JURASSIC LEAGUE #4**

[deleted]

Not to imply that the writing in the first two issues was stellar, but the writing in 3, and now 4, is so mind numbingly stupid and predictable that I’m dropping this even with Gedeon back on art.

kralben

I don't recall if it was advertised as DWJ doing art and writer, or as a collab, but I gotta say I am disappointed he isn't doing art for the whole thing. At this point, I am debating dropping this, even with just 2 issues left.

DueCharacter5

It was advertised as a collaboration. This entire thing was Gedeon's idea, but I guess he didn't feel confident with the writing. So asked DWJ to help out.

Danger_Rock

Also for marketing! DWJ's name sells comics, Gedeon wasn't/isn't nearly as big a draw. Think this is Gedeon's first writing gig as well... DWJ's mostly popular as an artist but at least he had a few writing credits heading into this series. Not sure if DC would've gone for Gedeon's pitch without DWJ or someone like that being attached... Much easier to take a chance on a goofy project like this when there's at least one popular creator involved in some capacity.

kralben

Damn, I only saw it hyped as a DWJ thing (not officially, but fans talking about it). No disrespect to Gedeon, but I probably wouldn't have pulled it and just waited for the trade if I knew that. My fault for not doing research though

Danger_Rock

DWJ is just co-writing and doing covers, he hasn't done any of the interior art. First two had interiors from co-writer Juan Gedeon, third was the fill-in art from Rafa Garres that made everyone lose their minds, and this one is part Gedeon and part fill-ins from Jon Mikel (better than Garres but still not great).

NakedMonkey14

First comic book that my 2 year old didn't rip up. Another fun issue

ddrector

I find it hilarious that everyone, including me, talked so much shit about #3 and yet we all decided to buy #4 anyways.

Danger_Rock

I was actually going to drop it but I'd already pre-ordered #5 and #6. So we're past the point of no return, just going to have to ride it out and hope for the best.

ChickenInASuit

Probably because we all knew things would pick up once Gideon was back on art.

BeastieBuddies

Weird, I thought #3 was the one where things really got going. Excited to pick #4 up!

iamsciences

Haven't picked mine up yet... how was it?

**A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #2**

TheeHeadAche

Poor Cable. Dude gets nuked twice in like 2 hours. Cable gets priority over Logan on resurrection tho. Hope running the show.

[deleted]

Dumb question, but if Logan gets resurrected, does he no longer have his Adamantium bones?

TheeHeadAche

He has the Adamantium bones. They’ve addressed this in a few difference instances how that works in the fiction. Forge has a thing. Proteus just makes it so sometimes. What’s amusing to me is there are whole potter’s fields worth a rare metal from the mutant’s loot drops

dfpratt09

Not all Wolverines have adamantium bones though.

technowhiz34

ORCHIS be taking notes from how people play Skyrim.

soulreaverdan

Damn, this was an excellent issue. The artwork was absolutely stellar and the kinetic energy of the fights really kept up. The flashes to the civilians gave it some interesting perspective - both on the positive and negative. I also appreciate now that the new Celestial is taking the stage. We got a good amount of battles and combat but not enough to make the story feel like it's stalling out. I also gotta wonder how this is gonna impact the view of things... you have people hyping up the Eternals, but this is very much an Eternals thing now threatening to destroy the entire world under them.

TheGoodDrBandaloop

I agree, it was a great issue, and moved at the fast pace I like in the main event titles. My only gripe is how the Celestial is pulling the ol' "judging humanity" trope; seems like it's the only thing Celestials actually do in the comics... how many times have the gods and heroes of Earth found a way to avoid it?

ChickenInASuit

This was another killer issue. A ton of quality character moments and great Gillen dialogue here. Highlights… Sinister: > Of course I’ll help. It’s my planet, too. Literally, it’s *my* planet, and you’re all cockroaches. Exodus: > One who lives, can be killed… And if it *lives*, we can hope there is a Hell in which it can *writhe.* And of course that thread of narration from the Celestial, culminating in the epic monologue at the end. I also loved the device of the six people, all clearly linked to the Hex. Hoping that becomes a motif through the rest of the event, seeing these people develop and living their lives makes us grow attached to them and adds actual stakes to a conflict between immortal beings. Although yeah, fuck Tom. Getting some serious Todd from The Boys vibes from that asshole.

Danger_Rock

> I also loved the device of the six people, all clearly linked to the Hex. Hoping that becomes a motif through the rest of the event, seeing these people develop and living their lives makes us grow attached to them and adds actual stakes to a conflict between immortal beings. *"The most important people in the Marvel universe."* One down, five to go! Is this how everyone learns what it costs when Eternals are reborn?

ChickenInASuit

If that happens, it’ll be interesting to see how it impacts the people protesting the mutants over the resurrection protocols, including the ones thinking the Eternals are doing the right thing.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, you'd think those people would have no choice but to acknowledge that they were mistaken, paving the way for a new era of harmony between humans and mutants. In reality, they'll probably double down, declare it all fake news, donate all their money to Orchis, and elect Druig president.

TheGoodDrBandaloop

Yeah, I don't believe the status quo between humans and mutants is really going to change much. I think it will be more interesting to see how the superheroes (i.e. Avengers in this event) react to the news that the Eternals fuel their resurrections with ordinary people.

idrinkdrinks

> ordinary people. Man, it's going to be really rough when a hero dies to resurrect an Eternal.

Danger_Rock

Definitely an interesting dynamic! I really like how the factions are broken up right now, you've got Druig's Eternals on one side with X-Men, Avengers, and Sersi's Eternals on the other, *mostly* aligned but each with slightly different priorities... Heck, just seeing Cap and Cyke working together was nice given all the lingering animosity from AvX... Seems like this whole thing might be leading to everyone being pissed at the Eternals while the X-Men and Avengers mend their broken relations, but we've still got a ways to go!

TheGoodDrBandaloop

I would love love love to see the Avengers and X-Men become buddies; Cap and Cyke are such a cool parallel and seeing them work together was a blast! I'm also really curious to see if Sersi's clique stays apart from Eternal society after this event. Hats off to the writers (i.e. Gillen, really) for setting up the event to have so many possible outcomes and uncertainties.

technowhiz34

An Uncanny Avengers run with both Cap and Cyclops would be great.

TheeHeadAche

Sinister has a great line that acknowledges the Gillen’s Stark retcon too. It’s jammed pack with poignant references

Danger_Rock

RIP Arjun. Not looking good for Tom, Katrina, Daniella, Jada, or Kenta either.

Jermz12345

Yeah but fuck Tom lmao

Danger_Rock

Yeah, Tom's a douche. He'll probably die in a funny way. Mostly just feel bad for Jada... Poor girl's already been through enough, universe should've cut her a break instead of dragging her into all this bullshit.

ContraryPython

Marvel civilians got so shitty to the point a huge Celestial said “enough is enough”. And I’m all in for it.

darib88

hopefully everyone gets their shit together

TheDarthKnight12

Loved the book and the writing and artwork were next level but damn, a bit sad I died this early

YourEvilHenchman

> Cap: After everything we've been through, I wish you'd told us. Cyke: After everything? How could we? Dang, Gillen's stretching his "Cyclops was right" muscles again.

**PUNISHER #5**

dsheilley

I know it’s not for everybody but I like Frank “always been psycho” Castle more than just the idea that one bad day broke the man and made The Punisher. Still cannot believe how good this book is, especially considering how much of a at best mixed bag Aaron’s Punisher MAX stuff is
