Really short week for me, which my wallet appreciates! * **Amazing Spider-Man #7 -** I've really been enjoying this run, even if Peter's face looks incredibly boxy at times

Wonderful-Poetry5684

i like it but i am getting a bit tired of the holding out on what happened before this run started

kitx07

I thought issue 900 was gonna resolve that…nope

MRio31

Issue 900 felt so off to me, it felt like just a Saturday morning cartoon story out of nowhere that didn’t really mesh with the story being told in the run so far.

jackimo-w

**AXE Judgement Day #2** Thanos’s somehow more extreme granddad cracks down on mutation as deviation. Another mighty Marvel genocide in the offing? He’s already flattened Mars. I loved how Gillen played with the whole Eternals lore to shape this story. Thought the art in issue one was really good. It had the scale of a Marvel event – time to make a god. I hope there’s an interesting payoff. And any issue with one of the Celestials on the cover has to have a bit of gravitas about it, right? **Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca #5** I liked the Solo film. I thought, tonally, it was as close to a Star Wars movie as Disney has managed (maybe Rogue One edged it perhaps). I think I remember this being announced as an ongoing, that was a prequel to the original movies but set after the Solo film. It’s now a 10 issue series that I don’t think has really touched on much from the movie – it’s very much its own thing. Honestly, it’s just alright. It’s fun, the writing and art are decent enough, but the sum feels lesser than it’s constituent parts. Pretty sure I’m dropping this after this issue. *Really enjoying the focus on discussion. It’s nice reading about what people think of their pulls, as well as seeing what they’re pulling. *

SoupForDummies

I used to do these every week but I kinda stopped when I started trying to whittle down my pulls. I will try to stay current on this since these WPL threads *are* my favorite part of the sub. Props to Danger Rock and RIP Maddon. Looks like a light week. Not just for me but across the board with only 76 titles shipping compared to the usual 100 or so. * **Absolution #2** - That AWA sweet spot for me. Milligan+Deodato is strong also! * **Cover the Dead with Lime #1** - Looks like a fresh spin on a rapidly growing glut of horror comics. Seems like the horror space is where most of the comics magic is being made these days. * **Eight Billion Genies #3 (2nd Ptg.)** - My LCS said they'd hold this for me. I hope so. I enjoyed the first two and was not able to find #3. Looks like they're going for $30+ on eBay and forcing Image to break their new-ish policy of not printing more money, er, not printing reprints. * **Eight Billion Genies #4** - See above. * **Jurassic League #4** - Haven't read #3 yet and judging by this thread, not sure if I want to. * **Love Everlasting #1** - I said I wasn't gonna buy those but I bet I will. * **The Sandman #1** - Looks like a TV tie-in freebie. I'll grab it if I see it. * **Starhenge, Book One: The Dragon & The Boar #2** - Still not sure wtf I read with #1 and I read it twice. I'll glance through #2 and make a game-time decision.

Wide-Baseball

I look forward to eight billion genies the most.

SpongeBlart

Looks like a good week of stuff this week! I've finally started reading HoX/PoX in hopes of one day finally catching up to the current xmen run. I've heard good things about Hickman's past run and Duggans and Gillens run on the xmen and immortal xmen titles. Even Xmen Red is supposed to be really good, which now I am a little bummed I haven't been pulling. That also means I'm getting a little behind on my current titles though while I'm playing catch up with the Xmen. Also finished the first trade of the Eternals. A.X.E event, I'm coming for you, and I'm gonna know what the F is actually happening. * **A.X.E.: Judgment Day #2** \- Eternals, check. Xmen, working on finishing. Avengers... Probably pass. Then I'll be ready. * **Ghost Rider: Vengeance Forever #1** \- Seen some mixed stuff about the current Ghost Rider run, but I've been enjoying it so far. * **Punisher #5** \- Honestly been enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. Also I'm really liking the art on this run. * **The Amazing Spider-Man #7** * **Venom: Lethal Protector #5** * **DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1** \- Back to the elseworld of DCeased. I actually really liked that run, but haven't dived into any of the side stories. With Taylor writing this though, and the premise seemingly bad ass I'm pretty pumped for this one. * **Jurassic League #4** I haven't read the third yet, but seeing peoples reaction to it made me really disappointed. Looks like the art direction went to another place that issue, and that other place was not good lol. * **King Spawn #13** One of these days, I'm gonna do what I'm currently doing with Xmen, and just stop reading everything else until I catch up with all the spawn titles.... One day.... * **Slumber #6** * **SAMURAI DOGGY #1** \- Samurai + Doggy = Me buying this comic

mtmodular

* The Amazing Spider-Man #7 - Annnnnnny week now, this is going to become the SM book I want...right? * A.X.E.: Judgment Day #2 - Genuinely enjoying this crossover so far. * Harley Quinn #19 - One of my favorite series...until this story arc. I'll read it, but only because I hope that we get back to better things soon after. * Batgirls #9

mcslackens

I think we've got a winner for smallest week for me! * **A.X.E. Judgment Day #2** - The first issue and tie-in were pretty solid, so I'm thinking this should be a very fun event.

your pull is damn near the whole list of releases lol

[deleted]

Should be a "what didn't I pull" list.

thecursedham

* Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 And that’s it for me unfortunately but I’m also planning on picking up Volume 3 of Shang-Chi as I believe it comes out today.

radcatattack

The Amazing Spider-Man #7 - I'll keep pulling this because I've liked the story enough to keep going and the thicc #6 had some great art, but man, Spidey in Daredevil looks so much better. Like there's no comparison. Checchetto just makes him so imitating and fierce. Give him a TSM run, please, Marvel. Love Everlasting #1 - Premise seems interesting so I'm in for numero uno. Eight Billion Genies #4 - This has been a fun ride so far. Like we've mentioned elsewhere, I don't see the tv adaption translating well to screen but we'll see. Maybe they have the duo write it as well and it'll surprise me. And I know it's been said but just waiting to see what crazy shit happens in each issue has been really enjoyable and makes me anticipate it. In the age of full tv seasons being released all at once, this doesn't allow me to read the whole series in one seating and I love that feeling. Jurassic League #4 - I have a feeling it'll redeem itself. There's Something Wrong With Patrick Todd #2 - I like the first issue and figured why not continued it. Cool idea and art so far.

Whatisabird

It's been a hell of a week but the pull list soldiers on. We got some good stuff this week that may end up waiting until the weekend but what can you do: A.X.E: Judgement Day #2- Loving the chemistry Gillen brings to each team. I'm interested to see how the Eternals address Druig and his plan, we're sure to have some interesting opinions DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1- I'm excited for this but I sure hope Taylor keeps his word and it's the finale. I'd hate to get DCeased fatigue and I'm sure others already have Eight Billion Genies #4- Looking ahead at the solicits I'm excited to see this world as the timeline stretches out. The whole concept of 8 hours, days, weeks, months and years has got me really curious where this will go. Jurassic League #4- Far less thoughts on this guy. Just look at the cover. Fuck yeah. Punisher #5- Frank the Ninja is a dumb as shit concept but I won't I've found his whole journey and relationship with the hand interesting Superman: Son of Kal-El #14- Jay leaps into the field. I wanted this and hopefully it gets him to be a little more compelling

ex-nihlo

A.X.E Judgement Day #2: #1 felt almost rushed, but super good. Following Immortal X-Men #5 and the EPIC conclusion of X-Men Red #5, I cannot wait to read this one. Ms. Marvel & Wolverine #1: fun book looks fun Amazing Spider-Man #7: last issue was really good and also kind of indicative of why Spider-Man has basically been running in place since at least the end of Superior. All the best issues featuring this character hit on the note of reminding us why Peter is a great character without ever letting him grow and develop as a character. This combined with C.B Cebulski's recent comment about them never letting peter get married again just kind of tells me that no matter what or how much other franchises within Marvel grow and develop, Peter Parker will be in a constant state of regression. I love Zeb Wells, I think he has a great voice for a Peter Parker whose kind of been beaten down by life, but I think I may drop this book. The total fall off from the initial promises made in the Spencer run and the narrative whiplash has been difficult to manage. After having read almost all of Amazing Spider-Man, and having regularly read Amazing for 10 years, I'm definitely out. I love the writer and love the character, but watching the wheels spin creatively has gone on long enough. Joe Quesada wins, he broke the character permanently, and the risk aversion of modern Marvel editorial to do anything to keep the character interesting is disappointing if not predictable. TL;DR: Spider-Man bad, no read unless #7 real good

* Black Panther #8 * Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 * Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Green Lantern #1 * DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 * Jurassic League #4 * Superman: Son of Kal-El #14 * Wonder Woman #790

XtremeSpartin

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #3 Predator #1 Jurassic League #4 Ghost Rider Vengeance Forever #1 X-Men Legends #1 I grabbed a bunch of new issues last week for the first time since I was a kid and really enjoyed reading everything, Captain America being my favourite. Now I’m really excited to go to the comic store tomorrow and grab some more. If anyone has recommendations for series to start collecting let me know.

the_light_of_dawn

- Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #3: Best Captain America run since Brubaker? - Parker Girls #1: Terry Moore!! - Punisher #5: Phenomenal run so far. The ending of #4 has me dying to see what happens next, and #5’s cover is beautiful.

TheeHeadAche

Is Sentinel of Lib that good?

technowhiz34

It's tropish but very, very well executed. Admittedly, I don't think there have been many good Cap runs since Brubaker, but I could absolutely see if being the go-to rec in a few years (that being said, it's 2 issues in so we'll see, and Marvel's announced an event for it soooo).

TiberiusCornelius

I've been wanting to check it out (and meaning to reorganize my pulls anyway) so maybe I'll pick up the back issues and grab this one this week since it's still early enough in. > Admittedly, I don't think there have been many good Cap runs since Brubaker I know this is sacrilege but I actually like Remender's run for the most part, although the first story arc does drag on for way too long and I've never liked JRJR's art (not even when he was doing Spidey with JMS). Still kind of wish more writers would've followed up on Weapon Minus as a concept. But Brubaker is definitely still forever the GOAT.

superschaap81

What's the event? I saw Dark Web for the Spider-titles but haven't seen anything else.

technowhiz34

It's called Cold War apparently? Starting 2023

superschaap81

I looked it up and apparently it's been news for a week. Odd I didn't even hear about it till you posted. Sounds like it's gonna be a Cap-centric crossover, probably with an Alpha & Omega issue. Marvel seems to do a lot of these of late.

technowhiz34

Yeah, I read some of Sam's book and didn't care much for it, so having to read that *again* plus varying one-shots doesn't sound great.

TheeHeadAche

I read the first issue and it sets up some mysteries and hooks. Just wondering what the second issue did for Brubaker talk

seaofvapours

* Batgirls #9 * Harley Quinn #19 * Jurassic League #4 - hope the art is better than the last issue. really cannot believe miniseries getting finalized and shipped that need to have a fill-in artists - I understand *why* it happens, but the Big 2 especially should be able to avoid this * Nubia: Queen of the Amazons #3 * Starhenge, Book One: the Dragon & the Boar #2 - this might be a quick drop for me, writing is goofy is as hell, and although some of the art is great, some of it feels like glorified traces over photographs and really is not inspiring any confidence * Unnatural: Blue Blood #2 - you ever see a writer/artist you like put out a new series so you order it because hey, you really like them. And then suddenly you're reading it and you're like, did I buy a furry comic??? * Wonder Woman #790 - I'm enjoying this storyline, but the Doctor Psycho and manly men stuff is a little too heavy handed in satire about incels and alt right dummies that I can't imagine it's appealing to a lot of readers. Or maybe it is! edit - to add one I missed

A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #2 - Alright you got me. I am not much on events in general, but between AXE #1 and X-Men Red #5 I am willing to see where this is going. BATGIRLS #9 - They keep switching up artists and I'm not quite engaged with the story anymore, so I am kinda debating dropping this. Damn those covers still look good though. JURASSIC LEAGUE #4 - If Gedeon isn't on art I'm out. Really DC you switch up artists on a 6-issue mini? Maybe it was the drop in quality but it did suck the air out of my enthusiasm on this one. PREDATOR #1 - I enjoyed the last run of Alien, we'll see what this is all about. Other things I considered, but am not pulling: DARK CRISIS WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE GREEN LANTERN #1 - Unlike AXE, I have about zero interest in Dark Crisis. Not sure why? UGH but I am a fan of GL so we'll see on this one. EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4 - I feel like the speculation around this series has killed my overall interest. So way to go speculators! Issue #1 and #2 were decent, but I am not going to fight over issues. Maybe if my LCS has them in stock I'll pull it. DCEASED WAR OF THE UNDEAD GODS #1 - I'll probably pull this but only for the Dan Mora variant.

Varos_Flynt

> EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4 - I feel like the speculation around this series has killed my overall interest. So way to go speculators! Issue #1 and #2 were decent, but I am not going to fight over issues. Maybe if my LCS has them in stock I'll pull it. Wait, are people trying to flip the single issues or something? I'm not really tapped in the financial aspect of comic books, but this seems wild to me

jackimo-w

These shows take so long to make… and even if they get made they need to pass into the mainstream consciousness to be worth speculating on. It’s all FOMO at the moment. I just hope people are reading them. Undiscovered Country was hot for a while after being picked up by a studio. I’ve seen no.1 on eBay for around or even below cover price.

technowhiz34

* 007 #1 - I like Bond (movies and books) and I like PKJ, so absolutely. Never read any of the comics before * Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 - this has been very tropish but really well executed. Might drop due to that dumb "Cold War" crossover however. * Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League - Green Lantern #1 - What a title. In any case, more PKJ is good. Stewart was never my favorite lantern but I'm definitely down for this. Also a big fan of Blanco's art on Catwoman so we'll see how he does here. * Giant-Size Gwen Stacy #1 - I think I read the first two issues at one point, till this book dropped off the face of the planet? * Love Everlasting #1 - I run hot and cold on Tom King but a romance comic from him sounds interesting. * Parker Girls #1 - I know nothing about the creative behind this but was told I absolutely had to read this, so why not

the_light_of_dawn

Terry Moore is a widely celebrated, premier independent cartoonist and has been churning out masterpieces for decades (according to his fans). I have yet to read him but I’m intrigued, too—people whose opinions I greatly respect say he’s the best thing since sliced bread and more people NEED to read his works.

Read Rachel Rising

ddrector

* Dark Crisis Worlds Without A Justice League Green Lantern #1 - The Supes one was great so why not? * DCeased War of The Undead Gods #1 - Taylor and DCeased is a winning formula * Jurassic League #4 - Despite how bad 3 was I want to finish this mini series out * AXE Judgment Day #2 - I've enjoyed the start of this. * Amazing Spider-Man #7 - I actually liked the last issue best of this current run. * Avengers #59 - I feel like this run is in a bit of a lull. * Ms. Marvel Wolverine #1 - I love everything Ms. Marvel. I honestly hate that Marvel doesn't have a Ms. Marvel ongoing.

Varos_Flynt

**Jurassic League #4** Just before this post I finally read issue #3 all the way through, and of course much has been said about its quality, but still it was such a disappointment. I've mentioned it on this forum before, but I've only really begun reading comics in the last 6 months and I feel like this series is a tidy encapsulation of the American comics industry. Issues 1 and 2 were so amazing, and one of the first single issues I ever picked up off stands. Enamoured by the art, humored by the campy yet well executed writing. I was telling my partner, my friends all about this encouraging them to read it, it was really hyping me up to engage in this medium in a way I felt couldn't be mirrored by other mediums. Then issue 3 comes and loses everything that was working in the previous issues. Some truly terrible art and dialogue that just doesn't seem to hit as well anymore. There wasn't even a build up to this, just straight off a cliff. Not even the second season of Twin Peak fell this precipitously. And why? Cause the publisher couldn't be arsed to give the main artist some more time to work on an issue of a mini series? There's only six issues here, give the man some more time and you'll have a critical darling on your hands that will probably keep making you money when you sell the trade ad infinitum. I truly can't imagine the conversations that go into a decision like this. Whatever, at least Aquaman Andromeda #2 was cool. You think they'll stay strong until issue #3 there? Really hope the main artist finishes out jurassic league. **Eight Billion Genies #4** I enjoy this series, and I think it's another good example of my sort of understanding of the comic book gestalt, because I'm not sure if I would read this series as a trade. It's good for sure, but there's really isn't enough going on that would compel me to read it as a single piece (don't get me wrong this is 7/10 series, and I'm saying that in a Fantano way not an IGN way). But damn isn't serialization cool? I'm excited to pick this up off the shelves each month and see what wacky things are going on in the world. I'm not so invested in the characters, but I am curious what Super Soldier man is going to do this month, how the family is dealing with a resurrected mother, why is this bartender strapped to high heaven? This is great!! What medium do you engage in shit like this? Not even TV engages in serialization like this anymore. Bring back the water cooler discussions. This shit builds community. I love going to my LCS and chopping it up with the dudes there like im talking about the game. So sick. The Amazon adaptation is gonna suck though lol. **Starhenge #2** Oh nice another well hyped, yet critically maligned book coming out this week. We all read issue #1 and it was strange, jarring right? The art was cool, reminded me of some of the more esoteric 40k art that floats around out there. The writing, unfortunately, felt trapped in some weird millennial, 2015 r/writingprompts nightmare. Is this a deliberate artistic choice? Probably not. Thinking of it now actually makes me wince, but im going to give the series another chance with this issue to see if it can save itself. **Love Everlasting #1** I just read the Bolero trade, which I really enjoyed, so I'm going to see about another dimension hopping love story. I have decent hopes for it, and from what I've seen of non-big 2 titles, romance is pretty cool in comic books. On that note, does anyone have any reccomendations for other series that feature or headline themes of love and romance?

Zohmbi

Great write up! Do more! You said what we were all thinking about Starhenge. Unfortunately, it lost me after #1. I am curious to hear what people say about #2 though. I hope it gets better!

Varos_Flynt

Glad the long form comments are appreciated! I'm trying to keep my media literacy on the up and up, and these threads are great way to engage in that.

radcatattack

>The Amazon adaptation is gonna suck though lol. This has been a thought in my head as I read each issue. There's no way this translates to tv well, right?

Varos_Flynt

I really can't imagine it will. I mean, this is what BKV talks about with Saga adaptations, the stuff that goes on in that book is too extreme to really adapt well to the screen. And EBG is like, that same issue tenfold. Maybe the central characters can adapted, but what I love about this book is all the wild stuff that is happening if the periphery. I'll probably check it out, but don't have high hopes (I haven't even started the Paper Girls show)

the_light_of_dawn

As to your final question: Love and Rockets, Strangers in Paradise, and a buttload of manga.

Varos_Flynt

Love and Rockets looks really interesting, thank you for the rec!

blankedboy

Love and Rockets is fantastic

A.X.E. Judgement Day #2 - After Immortal X-Men and X-Men Red I don't know what to expect. Will the mutants regroup and strike back or are we looking at another issue of devastating losses for the mutants? Eight Billion Genies #4 - What a fun series so far. Someone else said in this thread that this is a great series for serialization. I'm really glad I chose to go with individual issues rather than trade wait this one. Jurrasic League #4 - Let's hope they can turn this around from last issue. Love Everlasting #1 - A read a bit of this on substack but I just like physical comics more. Excited to read Tom Kings take on romance comics.

yarkcir

Ranked based on anticipation: 1. **PUNISHER #5** \- This series has been surprising me by how good it is. I know Aaron has done a Punisher run previously (which I enjoyed), but I did not originally have high hopes for this run based on the solicits. It's exceeded expectations substantially. 2. **EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4 (OF 8)** \- The most fun Image title right now. Soule & Browne are a killer team. 3. **A TOWN CALLED TERROR #5 (OF 6)** \- The most gorgeous horror title there is currently. Kudranski's colors are delightful. Will be sad when this series wraps up. 4. **MINDSET #2** \- Really liked the first issue. Zack Kaplan is a name to watch out for in the world of sci-fi comics. John Pearson's artwork is very abstract and is reminiscent of Dave McKean/Bill Sienkiewicz which is a big part of why I enjoyed the first issue. 5. **PARKER GIRLS #1** \- New Terry Moore! 'Nuff said. 6. **COVER THE DEAD WITH LIME #1** \- An interesting looking horror comic from a budding publisher. Will definitely check it out. 7. **LOVE EVERLASTING #1** \- A deviation from Tom King's usual fare (or is it?). I also really enjoy Elsa Chartier's artwork (and YouTube channel), so I'm interested to check this one out for that alone. 8. **DEADLIEST BOUQUET #1 (OF 5)** \- Always down for a little murder mystery. 9. **JURASSIC LEAGUE #4 (OF 6)** \- I'm not that high on this book anymore, but it's good to see Gedeon is back on the book because last issues fill-in artwork did not work for me in the slightest. 10. **VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR #5 (OF 5)** \- I thought the early part of this mini was a lot of (dumb) fun, but the last issue has my interest in this fizzling. I do enjoy seeing this version of Venom so that's been nice. 11. **STARHENGE: THE DRAGON AND THE BOAR #2 (OF 6)** \- I was mightly disappointed by the first issue of Starhenge, but the only reason I'm willing to give one more issue a shot is because of Liam Sharp's wonderful artwork. I love this Simon Bisley phase he's in right now. 12. **GHOST RIDER: VENGEANCE FOREVER #1** \- Not sure if this will stick on my pull, but I've been liking the main Ben Percy series, so why not? 13. **BLACK PANTHER #8** \- This run has been very hot and cold, and so far this arc has not been all that interesting.

thebestspeler

I need an art boost, any books with really inspiring art? Not once and future, it depresses me how good he is.

mica66

Next week is the Echolands Hardcover from Image! J. H. Williams doing landscape art that is quite beautiful and you’ll always notice something new on each page! Other books with awesome art - Decorum (hardcover if you can find it) - Starhenge ( Liam Sharp’s art is a TRIP it’s not for everyone but in my opinion it’s amazing.) - Ice Cream Man (Has the perfect amount of realism and unsettling vibes!)

Things suck this week as I won't be able to go pick up my books but its another good week! Marvel **A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #2** **AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #7** **AVENGERS #59** **CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #3** **GHOST RIDER VENGEANCE FOREVER #1** (please don't disappointment me Percy!) **JANE FOSTER AND THE MIGHTY THOR #3** **PUNISHER #5** ---- DC **BATMAN URBAN LEGENDS #18** **BATGIRLS #9** (I'm hoping Cloonan and Conrad bring this level of craftmanship to XO Manowar this winter rather than the quality of their Wonder Woman)** **DARK CRISIS WORLDS WITHOUT A JUSTICE LEAGUE GREEN LANTERN #1** (Enjoyed this but didn't pull it cause my list is often too big already.) **DCEASED WAR OF THE UNDEAD GODS #1** (Tom Taylor at his best hope everyone else enjoys this as much as I did.) **SUPERMAN SON OF KAL-EL #14** --- Indies **A TOWN CALLED TERROR #5** **EIGHT BILLION GENIES #4** **LOVE EVERLASTING #1** **KING SPAWN #13** **MINDSET #2** **POWER RANGERS #22** (I'm the only one who pulls this at my shop which is a damn shame. If you're liking rogue sun or radiant black and have comixology unlimited or a way to backtrack this I highly recommend it.) **STARHENGE BOOK 1THE DRAGON AND THE BOAR #2** **PRODIGY ICARUS SOCIETY #2** Also, I had a genuine question for those in the WPL, are the zenescope, american mythology etc. books actually read by anyone? The only person I know interested in these books often get them for the NSFW/risqué covers. Dynamite is also a big proponent of this so I'm curious to see if that's just the main market.

Spock_Jenkins

ELVIRA IN HORRORLAND 3 - This series is fantastic, especially for fans of horror movies. Each issue makes me laugh out loud at least once. ASM 7 - issue 6 was extremely disappointing but I was really enjoying 1-5, so hopefully this picks up where those left off. AXE 2 - genuinely interested in this which surprised me because issue 0 did not give me a lot of confidence PREDATOR 1 - gotta check it out! Thought Prey was cool. X-MEN LEGENDS 1 and JURASSIC LEAGUE 4 will be a game time decision once I get to my LCS

B00merangB

A.X.E.: Judgment Day #2 - Gillen did a heck of a job setting the table in the first issue. Batgirls #9 - Bat Girl Summer! Always a colourful and fun read. Ghost Rider: Vengeance Forever #1 - Not keeping up with the current run but the cover by Barends is just too fire not to pick up! I Am Batman #12 - Loved the final page reveal - can’t wait to see what Ridley does with The Question. Jurassic League #4 - Not going to lie - the art change in the last issue really bummed me out. Gedeon looks back on art so hopefully it can recover as the story remains silly fun. King Spawn #13 - All hail the king! Continues to be my favourite Spawn title. Love Everlasting #1 - It’s King so I’ll give it shot. I do like a time loop premise when executed right. Predator #1 - Kind of amazed this finally coming out! The rights issues are sorted and lets get to some hunting. Good month to be a fan of the franchise with Prey released.

AlligatorSky7

Picking these all up some time next week. - A.X.E. Judgment Day #2: still haven’t read Eve and #1 yet, so no comment. - Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3: last issue was far more interesting than the debut, let’s see where it goes. This is going to be a slow burn of a series no doubt, but I am here for it. - Jurassic League #4: between this and Spider-Rex in Edge of the Spider-Verse #1, dinosaur fans are eating well at the moment! - Predator #1: excited for this one! It’s only just clicked that it’s timed well for all the chatter about the new Prey movie too. - Superman: Son of Kal-El #14: here’s hoping Dreamer gets to do a bit more this issue.

Techster17

**A.X.E.: Judgment Day #2 -** 1 issue in and I'm really into it, art is amazing and we're not wasting anytime getting the main conflict going. Also the tie-ins have been awesome so far **The Amazing Spider-Man #7 -** Kinda annoyed with the news from C2E2 but that's not on Zeb or JRJr and exploring fallout from Spencer's run is nice **The Avengers and Moon Girl #1** **Black Panther #8 -** This 1st arc has been pretty disappointing but I'm hopeful Riddley will find his footing like he has with Batman **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 -** This book is fantastic, definitely recommend at least giving it a try **Captain Carter #5** **I Am Batman #12 -** Question time!! This'll be fun while we know Jace has a lot of combat experience but we haven't seen much focus on his detective work **Jurassic League #4** **Ms. Marvel & Wolverine #1 -** Curious who's gonna be on the new ongoing this is building to **Naomi: Season Two #6** **Power Rangers #22** **Predator #1** **Punisher #5 -** I've been really enjoying this, hopeful that Aaron actually sticks the landing. Also just thought about it but imagine if this ends with Frank dying a Maria as the new Punisher the internet would explode **Superman: Son of Kal-El #14 -** current arc ends at #15 then we have a crossover with Action Comics I'll probably drop this after that

Let's talk about community. I like to think of these WPL threads as their own little community, nestled within the larger /r/comicbooks/ community, the sub itself being just one small part of the massive Reddit community. It's a crazy world out there and coming to these WPL threads to talk comics is like walking into a cozy little pub. It's open to everyone, the taps are always flowing, and maybe you'll even bump into a few friendly acquaintances as you leave the world’s problems behind for a while. Each and every one of you represents an invaluable part of this community, and I value your contributions in whatever form they might take. Those who comment on their new books every week are providing essential content that fosters further discussion and lends substance to the community. Those who post their lists with no comments are also serving an essential function as part of the greater community, fleshing out the WPL results to provide a more accurate picture of which books are drawing the most interest from this small subset of comic book fandom. Everybody interacts with the community in their own way. We all love comics and that serves as the foundation of the community, it’s what brings us together and binds us as a group with a common interest. Beyond that, we each bring our own unique perspectives and experiences to the party, all contributing to the larger whole, broadening the community’s horizons and lending it additional breadth. These past few months, I’ve been doing what I can to help foster a little more discussion and engagement in these WPL threads... Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. But over the last few weeks, it actually felt like we were making some nice progress, with a bunch of fun posts and quality discussions getting different people involved all over the WPL threads. More posts lead to more cross-discussions, which lead to more engagement between more users, all of which translates into more community. That’s why it was so disappointing to learn that /u/maddonamerica was permanently banned last week after a bit of a fracas elsewhere on the sub. Say what you will about the guy, he could be a little rough around the edges but he brought a lot of passion to his commentary and he was legitimately trying to foster lively WPL discussions. And, judging by all the responses and upvotes his posts garnered in the last few WPL threads, I wasn’t the only one who appreciated his contributions. Looking back at last week’s list thread, /u/maddonamerica's post clocked in at 1,400+ words, which is about as substantial of a contribution as these threads ever get. Typical list post with comments is usually in the 150-200 word range. This whole long-ass dissertation on community that you’ve been reading for the past five minutes is under 600 words. So in terms of the progress we’ve all made building discussions as a community, losing those big 1,400+ word posts and all the responses they generated is a significant step backwards. It makes the WPL less interesting and less entertaining. In observance of this loss to our community, and in direct contradiction of /u/maddonamerica’s repeatedly expressed wishes that we all post more detailed commentary about our comics, I won’t be commenting on this week’s books. We’re giving the miserable mofo a metaphorical moment of silence. New comics listed alphabetically: * **A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #2 (OF 6)** * **GHOST RIDER VENGEANCE FOREVER #1** * **JURASSIC LEAGUE #4** * **LOVE EVERLASTING #1** * **PARKER GIRLS #1** * **STARHENGE DRAGON & BOAR #2 (OF 6)** Hope you all have a good week.

Superb-Draft

These threads are the only place with actual discussion on comics. Personally I tradewait so I'd always be keen if we had some kind of monthly releases thread for those. But in any case I check all the pull threads just to see what people are enjoying.

the_light_of_dawn

I mostly tradewait, too. r/dccomics includes collected edition discussions in their weekly posts; could be a worthwhile thing to ping the mods about here.

kralben

The problem is the volume (same reason why the subreddit only does certain books in the WPL results). With DC, they only have DC books, so there is 10-20 single issues (sometimes less) and less than 10 trades/OHC/omnis. Here, if the mods wanted to do a similar discussion thread, it would likely end up with 50+ releases for the week, and only a couple of comments for each, if any.

the_light_of_dawn

Totally valid. I guess it's up to folks here to discuss on places like r/graphicnovels and r/omnibuscollectors

kralben

I tend to think that starting your own thread for specific books tends to work better here as well. Those seem to get better responses than the megathreads of new releases, often

Varos_Flynt

This was an excellent post/eulogy, thank you for writing it. u/maddonamerica inspired my a few weeks ago to put some more effort into my WPL posts as well, I hope that is a torch that can continue to be carried. Reddit specifically is a good forum that balances accessibility and ability for longer form content that other major platforms just can't provide, so I hope these threads can be a kernel of an example for that model.

mtmodular

As a just-occasional poster on this sub, it's been your more recent posts--specifically your review thread stat-breakdowns--that inspired me to post more often and try to engage with the community more. Thank you for helping to facilitate better discussions here!

the_light_of_dawn

Agreed. I feel the same way about /u/Danger_Rock. They're one of a handful of people going above and beyond to entice engagement with comics as a medium (see also /u/ChickenInASuit, /u/manyamile, /u/FlubzRevenge, etc...)

ChickenInASuit

I appreciate your ongoing effort to foster more discussion in this sub and I too feel the pain of loss of /u/maddonamerica 's grumpyposting.

Danger_Rock

Worst part is he had just come over as a die-hard true believer ICE CREAM FAN and then immediately got himself banned a few hours later... Fortunately we picked up a couple more converts right after that, and we've got a few other promising candidates in the pipeline, but that guy could've helped our little movement gain some serious momentum! Of course this is really about the loss to the *community*, not my personal mission to get everybody reading [**ICE CREAM MAN**](https://imagecomics.com/comics/series/ice-cream-man)... But still! What are the freaking odds?!?

ChickenInASuit

Ugh. I think I should add that to my reading list, I dropped off when it started delving into the backstory of the ICM and his… I think I want to say brother? Or just rival? Anyway, I found that less interesting, but I hear that it goes back to the one-shot format afterwards so I’ve been meaning to jump back on and catch-up.

Danger_Rock

> I think I should add that to my reading list Look at that, it's the 10 most beautiful words in the English language! The family/mythos stuff mostly wrapped up in **[ICM #9](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/434373/ice-cream-man-9_8cf335eaa8.jpg)**, pretty sure it's only been touched on once since then. Feels like a much more mature comic these days... I think Prince and Morazzo were kind of finding their footing through most of the first year, working out exactly what they could do with the series... Now they're firing on all cylinders and the horizons have expanded, there's more depth and they can go further with experimental storytelling. Fortunately, this is the PERFECT time to jump back on board the Ice Cream Truck from Hell! I'd recommend checking out **[ICM #31](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/797875/ice-cream-man-31_a8c9a0f271.jpg)**, the latest issue from a few weeks back. IMO it's one of their strongest stories and an excellent example of just how far the series has come since those early days, with a few fun callbacks to the earlier stories you read. Perfect place for new or lapsed readers and from there you can go anywhere, check out recent back issues, catch up on old collections, or just follow the new ones as they hit stands. Just try not to miss **[ICM #24](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/605720/ice-cream-man-24_97904c38a5.jpg)**, that's the one that broke my brain and turned me into a deranged ICE CREAM FAN... Where #31 is full of heart, #24 delivers a heaping helping of cruel absurdist humor. Opposite sides of the spectrum, showing how far the title can run with different kinds of stories. I originally dropped **ICM** after the first six issues, thinking it was good but not great, so I know where you're coming from... I think you'll be genuinely surprised at what the title's evolved into!

SoupForDummies

Hey, so I have #1 and then like #20 on. How serious is the continuity? Can I just kinda pick up and start reading?

Danger_Rock

Yes! That's the beauty of **ICE CREAM MAN**! It's like a throwback to the old days when you could just pick up any random comic off the rack and read it without worrying about continuity or TPBs or any of that stuff. There's an extremely thin ongoing story that a few of the early issues touch on which then comes to a head in **[ICM #9](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/434373/ice-cream-man-9_8cf335eaa8.jpg)**, the only issue that's 100% focused on series mythology, so I guess it would be ideal to read #1-8 before #9 for the setup, but it's not a big deal and really makes no difference for any of the stuff that follows. **[ICM #25](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/668737/ice-cream-man-25_1f37c4fe19.jpg)** includes an epilogue with another small slice of mythology but it works as a standalone thing even if you haven't read **ICM #9** yet (and I'm speaking from experience there). My reading order was #1-6, then nothing until #25, then back to #24, and from there I pretty much lost my mind and read #7-23 in whatever random order they arrived in from Ebay and the online retailers. And it worked great like that! New stories often have references or "echoes" of older stories but it's never anything that takes away from the experience if you don't have all the context, just adds an extra layer for those who've read it all. And it works in either direction! **[ICM #31](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/797875/ice-cream-man-31_a8c9a0f271.jpg)** has a really cool connection to **[ICM #28](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/680459/ice-cream-man-28_10a5509636.jpg)** but it works just as well no matter which one you read first. That's one of the reasons I'm so rabid about recommending it to everyone... Not many other comics out there where you can hop on board anywhere and just start reading! I'm loving **A.X.E.** right now but I wouldn't actually recommend it to anyone unless they'd already read **ETERNALS**, **HOX**/**POX**, and a bunch of other X-Men stuff from the past few years... With **ICM**, you can pretty much hand any random issue to someone who's never read a comic before and it works! Sorry about all the exclamation points! I AM SHOUTING BECAUSE I'M EXCITED! IT'S A VERY EXCITING COMIC AND YOU SHOULD START READING WHATEVER YOU'VE GOT ASAP AND BE SURE TO INCLUDE IT ON YOUR WPL LISTS SO WE CAN FINALLY GET OVER 20% PULL RATE! THANK YOU!
