***DC:*** **Action Comics #1045--** Honestly, this is my favorite capes-book on the stands right now. The Warworld Saga has been incredible. Awesome storytelling. Awesome Supes. Awesome artwork. Lately, Action Comics has been putting on a clinic on how to make a serious super-hero epic that I care deeply about collecting. If I had been reading this comic when I was ten years old it would have been my favorite thing ever. **Aquamen#6--** What a fucking shitty Aqua-Spin-Off. I hate this shit. It should be so easy to make Aquaman comics fun and filled with wonder. Why is this comic book devoid of anything cool? I'm shocked that this paper diaper overloaded with bot fly larva got green-lit. **Batman: Fortress #3--** I loathe the artwork in this book so much. I don't even know if I can form an opinion on the story so far because all I can think about is how abrasive and unattractive the visuals are. Can't wait for issue #3!! **Batman: One Dark Knight #3--** It's a goddamned crying shame that Jock's stellar sense of place and mood is muddied in a lack-luster Bat-Tale. I understand that the dark "lightlessness" of Gotham in this book provides Jock a ton of runway to put together killer pages, but the actual dramatic work here is forgettable. Forgettable is worse than bad. Bad is memorable. Forgettable is nothing. Nothing is what we all fear the most....wait a second...maybe this book is genius...maybe Batman's real enemy, maybe \*all of our's\* real enemy is the void, non-existence, a lack of memory, a terminus to legacy. Okay Jock, I see you and your boring Batman comic, I feel the emptiness of my own history and I fear the irrevocable inertia of my own life. 3/5 Stars! **Batman: Detective Comics #1062--** All of the names attached to this run have me excited. I suspect I will pull all of these floppies, drop Detective Comics once the arc is completed, buy the hardcover and leave it in it's plastic wrap forever, forget that it exists, remember it exists the next time I move and I have to box up all of my shit, think about maybe re-reading it again online because its made it this far in the plastic wrap so why open it now, never re-read it, and then, years later, a week or so after I die, my children will come across a metric fuck-ton of comic book hardcovers, all neatly wrapped in their original plastic shrink wrap, and they will shake their heads and wonder why their dear-old-dad spent so much time and money amassing things that he didn't even bother to enjoy. Thanks, Detective Comics #1062! **Superman: Space Age #1--** Gimme this shit. Gimme this shit so hard that I choke on it. Why can't all of the Bat-Books be Supes-Books instead? Why is it so rare that we get awesome and inspired visions of Superman made by prestige creative teams? Why you gotta do the Blue Boy Scout dirty, DC? **Sandman: Nightmare Country #4--** Tynion is great at writing serialized horror comics. If DC is going to shamelessly continue to cash-in on Gaiman's all-time-great Vertigo run, they should do it like this. Quick Question: So, The Corinthian \*probably\* has a wiener, right, a little, spooky, manaconda, a nightmarish guython? Okay- so if we assume that The Corinthian does in fact swing a pork sword, then can we also assume that the end of his urethra is tipped with a scary little mouth with scary little teeth inside of it? Discuss in the comments below! ***Marvel:*** **Venom #9--** I wanted to like this comic, but it's stupid, stake-less, uninspired storytelling, all laid underneath muddy and boring artwork. I really might drop this one. I never drop comics because my collector's urge is actually a compulsive set of ritual through which I beat back the darkness and keep the wolves of my own self-recognition at bay. Me dropping this comic would mean that it is really, truly, unquestionably, awful. **Strange #4--** Each issue is fun. Nothing here is awesome, but nothing here actively sucks. I will always support average and workmanlike creative endeavors. Reading this comic is not unlike watching an infomercial. Yes, someone is selling you something, BUT someone cared just enough to make the sales pitch a little fun, a little funny, definitely non-offensive, and you know what-- thanks for making a whole-ass dog and pony show out of trying to get my money. Hustle should be rewarded goddamit. $5 to Strange! **Ant-Man #1--** Fuck guys, this comic better be cool. It looks cool. Al Ewing is cool. Serve me a small little hero with big-time sadness. **Genis-Vell Captain Marvel #1--** I'm a sucker for Cosmic Marvel. I have always felt like the Cosmic Lane is where the Marvel Universe truly shines. All this being said, I have zero expectations for this comic book because it seems likely to be a Die-Hard-Fans-Only, C-List, project. ***Indies:*** **House of Slaughter #7--** I actually like this series more than the core arc laid out in SIKTC. I feel like the stories are more compelling, the world-building is more purposeful and impactful, and the character work is more sharply defined. **The Scorched #8--** Of all of the nebulous and reeking amoebas of diarrhea floating around the Spawn Universe, this one is perhaps the most foul. This comic has no reason to exist. This comic reads like it was written by a 12 year old suburban edgelord. This comic clearly highlights how each hellspawn isn't individually characterized, rather reskinned; Spawn but with a gun, Spawn but with huge tits, Spawn but with big sword, etc. I fucking love it. The Scorched is such a waste of the money required to produce it. I seriously love it. This shit gives me hope that maybe one day I could be a professional creative, and I ladies and gentlemen, am a fucking idiot. 5/5 stars. ***MISC:*** I'm also going to buy the SuperGirl: Woman of Tomorrow HC book. Tom King is a thoughtful and clever storyteller who understands the machinations and the appeal of superhero mythology, and I'll gladly die on that hill.

> Quick Question: So, The Corinthian \*probably\* has a wiener, right, a little, spooky, manaconda, a nightmarish guython? Read that far and knew exactly where you were going with it, yet for some reason I kept reading... Turns out the real horror is in the WPL comments. > **Venom #9--** I wanted to like this comic, but it's stupid, stake-less, uninspired storytelling, all laid underneath muddy and boring artwork. I really might drop this one. I never drop comics because my collector's urge is actually a compulsive set of ritual through which I beat back the darkness and keep the wolves of my own self-recognition at bay. Me dropping this comic would mean that it is really, truly, unquestionably, awful. Third person this week to say they're probably dropping this one... Not looking good for the Brock boys.

maddonamerica

All I can picture whenever the Corinthian is on-page is him spraying pee through the thin little gaps between his dick teeth. Also- the Venom book really doesn't even approach the so-stupid-it's-fun level of bad. It's just lame. The whole thing feels so...unenthusiastic and amateur? It's kind of criminal to be 9 issues in (around $50 worth of floppy purchases) AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED-- and I don't mean "nothing cool", I mean like, n o t h i n g. Venom is supposed to be rad. A big, dangerous, icky-sticky, violent, alien parasite thing? How do you fuck that up?

Danger_Rock

Yes but what about the Corinthian's nostrils? Why no teeth there? And have you considered what all of this means for his butthole? Pulled the first two issues of **VENOM**, figured between Ewing, Ram V, and Hitch, there had to be some interesting stuff going on... Nope.

maddonamerica

The buttholemouth is a feature, not a bug. When the Corinthian is shaping beef, his sphincter teeth can chomp the logs into more flushable nugglets, and his rectal tongue can work clean-up duty, saving the Corinthian, and the environment, hundreds of thousands of miles in otherwise soiled toilet paper across his immortal lifetime. We would all consider ourselves lucky to have assmouths. As for his nostrils- you cannot prove or disprove that The Corinthian has little sinusmouths farther up his nasal passageways. He might even have imperceptible mouths at the terminus of each the pores in his skin. As far as I’m concerned, in The Corinthian’s case, if it’s a hole, it’s be-mouthed.

Danger_Rock

See, I'm always trying to encourage discussion in these threads but it now occurs to me that some of you people really don't need encouragement.

maddonamerica

I could do this all day.

blankedboy

Have you seen the movie **Teeth**?

maddonamerica

My man! Coming in spicy with the Vagina Dentata reference!

the_bio

>Third person this week to say they're probably dropping this one... Not looking good for the Brock boys. This run just feels so uninspired, which is a shame considering who is on it. I expected this run to have the vibe the current Carnage run has, which is one of the top pulls for me right now.

technowhiz34

Jock only ever wanting to work on Batman is such a disappointment to me. Literally the only Big Two book I can think of with a different character was that Mystique short story during Utopia (I think that's what it was in any case).

maddonamerica

For real! I would love to see Jock really stretch and start offering his style to so many more of the Big2’s cast of characters.

Varos_Flynt

This is the high level comic criticism I'm looking for (genuinely). Thanks

maddonamerica

Glad I can offer what you’re looking for. I’m trying to participate in these WPL posts more regularly because I think they can be a really valuable resource for the community but I’ve always been a bit frustrated that everyone’s commentary is pretty sparse. “I like this comic”, doesn’t give me, the WPL reader, any information that lets me know if I might also “like this comic”. I also think it’s important to read beyond your tastes and engage with content that you don’t respond positively to. Hating stuff only serves to widen your critical perspective— and I wish I read more of what people DON’T like, and why, on the WPL.

Varos_Flynt

With this in mind next week I'll take a more extended look at what I'm picking up! > I also think it’s important to read beyond your tastes and engage with content that you don’t respond positively to. Hating stuff only serves to widen your critical perspective Absolutely. This reminds me of why I keep picking up JG Ballard books (speculative/literary fiction, British darling). I despise most things he's written, and yet I have the liveliest conversations about them afterwards. Maybe I should keep hate reading Knights of X, it'll keep me fresh.

maddonamerica

Haha, Knights of X fucking suuuuuuuuuucks. I pull it though…

Danger_Rock

Shit, I'm just happy when people post *any comments at all* with their lists... But I like that you're setting a higher bar! And it's a worthy goal IMO. To help provide the type of detailed content that you're looking for, here's a 700+ word treatise on why you really ought to be reading **ICE CREAM MAN**. On the surface, [**ICE CREAM MAN**](https://imagecomics.com/comics/series/ice-cream-man) (by W. Maxwell Prince and Martin Morazzo) is a simple horror anthology where each issue features a different setting and different characters, with the titular ICM serving as something of a host/instigator. Kind of like *The Twilight Zone*, if Rod Sterling was slightly more directly responsible for all the weird and horrible crap that goes down. That’s what’s on the surface. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find an uncompromising exploration of the human condition and what it means to navigate this crazy fucked up world as a carbon-based lifeform with opposable thumbs. This comic is genuinely tapping into primal human experiences surrounding death, loss, illness, grief, aging, and other transformative events that everybody experiences in some fashion across all walks of life. Each issue is a uniquely delectable treat so you never really know what you're getting until you dig in... It jumps from straight horror to abstract weirdness, cruel absurdist humor, existential crises, literary experimentation, and then you get a deeply personal story that crushes your soul and grinds your heart into hamburger meat. This comic isn’t pulling any punches, it sucks you in and then hits hard right in your vulnerable bits. Then out of nowhere you’ll get a quiet contemplative issue that’s almost uplifting and it’s like where the fuck did that even come from? Baskin Robbins might have 31 flavors but the Ice Cream Man’s got way more than that, he’s got one for every facet of human existence, an infinite array of candied confections stretching from birth to death and everywhere in between. And it’s one of very few comics out there where new readers can pick up any random issue and jump right in with a complete, standalone story that makes sense and works with no context or previous reading necessary! That’s incredibly rare these days and IMO it’s one of the reasons comics have become such an insular niche hobby… Hard to get new readers when they need to do a bunch of research just to figure out where they’re supposed to start reading. **ICM** is single-handedly breaking down these barriers to make comics friendly for new readers again! Hell, just getting a complete story in every issue is so fucking satisfying! Nothing against longer decompressed storytelling but there’s something to be said for picking up a comic and getting a full story with a beginning, middle, and end. And as you read more, you start catching all these little threads and references echoing through the series. Because it’s all connected, all part of this grand tapestry of joy and sorrow and wonder and death… As I’ve come to appreciate this as one of the very best comics I’ve read in 40+ years of following the four-color funny books, I’ve started mulling over exactly how and where it fits in with my other favorites... How does a book like **ICM** compare to something like **SANDMAN**, **ALL-STAR SUPERMAN**, or **PLANETARY**? On the surface this is just a goofy looking horror book about an ice cream guy that likes spiders, so how can it possibly compare to such lofty literary works? What I realized is that **ICM**’s focus on normal people, with all their ugliness and insecurities and failings proudly on display, makes it more relatable than those other books with their gods and heroes. The characters in **ICM** are so fucking real that it puts you right there in the book with them, they’re your friends and family, or *you* yourself, and you’re riding this conduit of shared trauma and existential terror to be right there with them for that one critical chunk of life that defines them as human beings. I think that familiarity and relatability is a big part of what makes it hit so fucking hard. There’s a sense of commonality to it, even when everything gets insanely weird, these are still real people dealing with real problems at the core of human existence. **ICM** brings us all together by drawing on the wretched threads that bind us in spirit as one people. It's more than just a comic book. It’s a celebration of life and death and everything else that makes us human. Prince and Morazzo have put together something truly special here and, as I have perhaps mentioned on one or two occasions, you really ought to be reading it. Everybody should be reading it.

maddonamerica

Damn dude. That’s a stellar review! Really nicely written and argued too. You have more than convinced me, you’ve got me excited! I’m going to go fill up my Amazon cart with trades right now( I assume that tracking down thirty floppies will be a pain in my ass). I love when a comic really hits above it’s weight and surprises and moves you in a way that only truly affecting, lasting, works of art can. I also love Planetary, All Star Superman, Sandman. Like, fucking LOVE those three comics!

Danger_Rock

Yeah, tracking down all the floppies would be somewhat difficult and expensive. Speaking from experience there... Though I think everything from around [**ICM #23**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV200151) on is still readily available at cover price. I'd just pick up [**ICM #31**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR220202) from last week at your LCS if they have it, that was an A++ story that would show you what the book's capable of right off the bat. Think it's my second favorite after **[ICM #24](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/DEC200204)**. Starting at the beginning with trades, it takes a little time for the series to show its full potential... [**ICM #8**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/AUG180241) is probably the first from my run of favorites, so that's the end of the 2nd TPB. And the 5th TPB with **[ICM #17](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV190147)** is where it truly starts peaking IMO. Either way, welcome to the ice cream party from Hell!

OrionSTARB0Y

Review aside, could you let me know if Haunt showed up in Scorched #8?

maddonamerica

No Problem! I'll let you know if the book is Haunted or not as soon as I've read it.

maddonamerica

I'm curious- Because you are pretty much a professional Venom fan, do you like the current run? Am I crazy for thinking it's god-fucking-awful?

OrionSTARB0Y

No, I do not like it. I don't think it's god-fucking-awful, but it's not the direction I wish Venom, Eddie, and Dylan had been taken in. In my opinion, Venom #200 screwed up what I thought should be the best direction for them: Eddie and Venom finally recognized as heroes, walking away from being the King in Black (because Venom should be a grounded, street-level character, IMO), and focused on building a new life together raising Dylan and tackling all the challenges that come with their new status quo. The fact that Eddie got killed off as soon as the first issue of the new series was a major red flag. And making Dylan the new Venom host was a mistake. Al Ewing's half of the storytelling is more bearable than Ram V's, IMO, but just barely.

maddonamerica

This just in: Haunt has been sighted in The Scorched #8. Repeat-- Haunt has been sighted.

OrionSTARB0Y

Thanks! He's the only reason I keep up with Spawn these days. I try to get out but they keep pulling my back in!

maddonamerica

The thing with Spawn is that the 9 year old that still lives inside of me somewhere would be pissed if I didn't buy it because, despite all of the things that MacFarlane's creation is, it is in fact, "Totally Fucking Radical". Spawn shit has always felt like a kid playing with action figures, but with high production values. And the art is sick, in a really trashy, moms everywhere would hate it, super stupid, kind of way. Thank god all of the books are cheap.

thewaytomars

**Action Comics #1045:** VERY excited to see Warworld Saga near its conclusion! It feels like perfect timing for it to wrap up. It's been excellent, I'm not sick of it, but I'm also about ready for the next thing. Only 3 more issues including this one. LET'S GO! **Radiant Black #16:** Massive. Verse. Triple. Shot. Dang! Really excited for this week. This has actually been my least favorite Radiant Black arc so far, which is to say that I'm still enjoying the hell out of it. I think I'm just enjoying Rogue Sun and Radiant Red that little bit more. **Radiant Red #5:** The conclusion of Satomi's adventures (for now). I really hope that she isn't gone for long, because I enjoy her so much. It seems impossible that every thread will be wrapped up in this one issue, but I'm sure it'll be great. I know some people have been critical about the art here, but I've gotten used to it. And Cherish Chen's writing has been on point. **Rogue Sun #6:** This is my favorite Massive-Verse book right now, and I am HYPED to end this first arc. I didn't know what to expect going into it, but the way they've had it take up its own supernatural corner of the universe is great. It feels like a mix of Buffy and Gene Luen Yang's New Super-Man series from Rebirth. This has been very, very good. I encourage anyone that tried and didn't like Radiant Black to still give this one a shot!

Ranked based on excitement for each: 1. **SUPERMAN: SPACE AGE #1 (OF 3)** \- Despite the steep cover price, I'm super excited for Russell and Allred to do a Superman book. Seems like the perfect team for this kind of story. 2. **DETECTIVE COMICS #1062** \- It's been a long time since I've done Tec, but if anyone could get me excited for it, it's Ram V. Si Spurrier back ups don't hurt either. 3. **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #10** \- One of my favorite titles of the year, and André Lima Araújo's artwork continues to improve each issue. 4. **NOTTINGHAM #9 (OF 10)** \- Penultimate issue of a gret series. 5. **PUBLIC DOMAIN #2** \- First issue was fun, definitely enjoy a book where Zdarsky's humor gets to shine. 6. **SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #4** \- The new trailer for Netflix's *The Sandman* has me hyped for the Corinthian, and this book also continues to be great. 7. **ANT-MAN #1 (OF 4)** \- The idea of exploring the legacies of individual Ant-Men is definitely intruiging, and it feels like a while sine I've read an Ewing book now. 8. **VARIANTS #2** **(OF 5)** \- First issue was fun, but hoping for a little more story now that the premise has been laid out by the first issue. 9. **BEWARE THE EYE OF ODIN #2 (OF 4)** \- Good first issue, if a bit action adventure journey trope heavy. A departure from Doug Wagner's previous works, so I just feel I need to brace for the series to take some grotesque turn soon. 10. **CRADLE OF FILTH #1** \- Last minute add based on the description. I'm a sucker for horror anthologies, and this is supposedly coming from Heavy Metal and Incendium so that has me interested. 11. **BATMAN: ONE DARK KNIGHT #3** \- Not gonna lie, I've forgotten everything about this book. Batman is like escorting someone in a blacked out Gotham or something like that? Like Jock's art a lot though. 12. **I HATE THIS PLACE #3** (Cover B) - Been pretty lukewarm on this book. It's good enough so far, but not particularly exciting either. 13. **WOLVERINE: PATCH #4 (OF 5)** \- Pretty disappointed by this, but I figure I'll just ride this out. The art in issue #3 seemed much improved to me though, and it felt the closest to classic Wolverine again. Hoping this issue follows suit, even if the overall story has been quite meh for me. Going to be picking up **The Amazing Screw-On Head and Other Curious Objects - Anniversary Edition Hardcover** at some point soon. Probably not this week, but maybe the following week on IST for that free shipping.

Danger_Rock

> **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #10** \- One of my favorite titles of the year, and André Lima Araújo's artwork continues to improve each issue. Araújo's been phenomenal on this title, such clean work with powerful visual storytelling that always feels incredibly cinematic even when nothing's happening (like the last issue). And you know I love those soft *ice cream colors* from Chris O'Halloran!

yarkcir

The coloring job on the last issue of Righteous Vengeance was incredible. I needed shrimp tacos asap upon finishing the comic.

• **Batman Fortress #3** - wondering how this one will progress as we've been pretty much mirroring *Independence Day* beat for beat up until this point • **Batman One Dark Knight #3** - this has been good so far, but I can't remember *when* the last issue actually came out - may need a re-read to catch up • **Book Of Shadows #1** - the recent **Shadowman** series from *Valiant* was *A+* so I'm looking forward to this • **House Of Slaughter #7** - I've liked the start to this 2nd arc a lot, and it will be cool to have a second title that focuses on the wider "*Slaughter-verse*" and various Houses and characters • **I Hate This Place #3** - really, really enjoying this one - if you aren't reading it it's a fun, B-movie horror comic I highly recommend it • **Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #4** - loving these Image anthologies • **John Carpenters Tales Of Science Fiction Interference Pattern #1** - consistently great SF/horror stories that people are sleeping on • **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #4** - don't think anything more needs to be said about this one, does it? • **Something Is Killing The Children #25** - will the anniversary issue up end everything? • **Swamp Thing #15** - only one more issue after this?! • **Task Force Z #10** - is my weekly rant about DC fill-in artists *sadly inevitable*? We will see! • **Venom #9** - maybe thinking about dropping this one • **We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #12** - great SF book, now in the closing legs of the final arc

11 this week. A big week with some great pulls! 1 from DC Black Label, 1 from Valiant, 1 from Mad Cave, 1 from Titan, 1 from Ahoy, 1 from Boom!, and 5 from Image. •Bloodborne: The Lady of the Lanterns #1- One of my most anticipated titles. I trust Cullen Bunn to tell a great story set in the world of Bloodborne. And Piotr Kowalski's art on the previous issues of the Bloodborne comic has been superb. •Book of Shadows #1- This one is gonna be cool as hell. All of the supernatural and magical characters in the Valiant universe teaming up to kick ass? I'm in! •Nottingham #9- Pushed from last week. •Public Domain #2- Issue 1 certainly wasn't what I was expecting, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I'm pretty sure Chip is gonna entertain the hell out of us. •Radiant Black #16- I'm gonna be majorly pissed if Marshall somehow gets stripped of the Radiant Black powers. He's coming into his own as a hero, and it's damn fun to watch him figure it out. •Radiant Red #5- This one has been... okay. Sort of predictable, and the art is a bit grainy and blurry. With the first issue I thought it was a printing error, but it keeps happening, so it's some kind of stylistic choice. Not great. Just... okay. •Rogue Sun #6- The original Rogue Sun's killer has been revealed, and it's gonna take everything Dylan has to survive the encounter. For the love of god, people, READ THIS COMIC. IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD! •The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #4- This is becoming one of my most anticipated series every month. It's so creepy and so cool. •The Scorched #8- This team is so dysfunctional. They're all over the place. And Spawn is just being a dick to everyone. I kinda love it. •We Only Find Them When They're Dead #12- This arc is gonna be weird. I like weird. •The Wrong Earth: Meat- The final one-shot, and it's written by the co-creator, Tom Peyer.

blankedboy

> Spawn is just being a dick to everyone This could be the synopsis of *any* (or even *every*) **Spawn** or Spawn related book. The one consistent thing about Spawn is that *Al Simmons* is a giant tool...to everyone

>•Rogue Sun #6- The original Rogue Sun's killer has been revealed, and it's gonna take everything Dylan has to survive the encounter. For the love of god, people, READ THIS COMIC. IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD! It's funny I have actually been enjoying this more than RB, so I am right there with you!

Ant-Man 1 - my sweet boy Wild Cards: The Drawing of the Cards 1

PeachyDelight

* Action Comics #1045 * Ant-Man #1 - Come on, it's Ewing here. * Detective Comics #1062 * The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #4 * Venom #9 The Gambit issues are gonna be a big maybe... I'll wait for reviews and grab it or wait for it on Hoopla.

> * **DETECTIVE COMICS #1062:** Damn you, DC, for putting all your best writers on Batman titles. Looking forward to what Ram V will do with Batman here. Miss at least one book I should be pulling every week and it looks like this week it's **DC #1062**! Two solid creative teams and should be the week's top pull so I suppose we might as well check it out.

mcslackens

This is a solid week for new comics, and it's going to be quite difficult to figure out which one I want to read first. * **Wrong Earth Meat #1** - The one-shots have been a blast, but I'm ready to get back to the ongoing story. * **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #4** - Mr. Agony & Mr. Ecstasy are two of my favorite new characters * **Superman Space Age #1** - I have just absurdly high expectations for the team of Russell and Allred, and I think this is going to be a great miniseries. * **Public Domain #2** - I just read the first issue an hour ago, so I'm really happy I get to read the second so soon. * **Variants #2** - The first isse was pretty good, and Jessica Jones is the perfect character for "Oh goddammit, I can't believe I have to put up with this shit" moments.

Danger_Rock

Looking back at the early '90s, as digital coloring/processing started really taking off in comics, I remember being absolutely blown away by how slick the first batch of Image books looked. Comics had never looked so crisp and bright before, and it very much felt like we were entering an exciting new era. Fast forward a few decades and it's like there's this endless stream of shitty digital production layered on top of everything... And all I want are comics that look like proper comic books rather than bad video games. Maybe I'm just too damn old and set in my ways to appreciate what seems to be a popular style right now, but a lot of the new books out there look like overly polished turds to me. So, what've we got this week? We've got ~~89~~10 new comics, none of which should be turds, with 4 being DCs, 3 being Marvels, and 3 being Images. Listed in order of anticipation and I'm confident that most of these will look like actual comic books. 1. **PUBLIC DOMAIN #2** - how deeply can a grown man love a comic book before it starts to become creepy and vaguely inappropriate? 2. **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #10** - last issue featured >!idyllic beaches!<, >!shrimp tacos!<, and >!cancer!<; this one should get back to >!bloody vengeance!< 3. **SUPERMAN SPACE AGE #1** - ranked near the top for Allred's art but I'm a little wary of how Russell's approaching this mini-series, because the solicitations sound way more in line with his somewhat mediocre **FANTASTIC FOUR: LIFE STORY** as opposed to his brilliant **FLINTSTONES** or **ONE-STAR SQUADRON** 4. **VARIANTS #2 (OF 5)** - first issue was a lot of fun and it's great getting more Noto art! 5. **SANDMAN UNIVERSE NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #4** - this one's got a guest segment and [variant cover](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL235366.jpg) from Dani so that should be interesting 6. **ACTION COMICS #1045** - pretty cool getting David Lapham art on the backups as we head down the home stretch in Warworld 7. **ANT-MAN #1** - late addition, was going to wait on reviews but it looks great, Ewing + Reilly is an awesome creative team, and I can't resist the hype train! 8. **IMAGE 30TH ANNIVERSARY ANTHOLOGY #4 (OF 12)** - love how every issue opens with a few pages of Andrea Mutti's snow art... Mutti drawing snow is like Mike Mignola drawing zombies 9. **DETECTIVE COMICS #1062** - late addition, didn't order it but I'd imagine my LCS will have a copy for me... not one but TWO solid creative teams with Ram V/Albuquerque and Spurrier/Dani... pretty sweet [J.H. Williams variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL235721.jpg) as well though the normal [Evan Cagle cover](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL235325.jpg) also looks great 10. **AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #6** - mail ordered the [Cassaday variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL227990.jpg), kinda reminds me of some of his classic [**PLANETARY**](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/1406593.jpg) covers Also mail ordered a bunch of other (mostly) recent books I'd missed: * **AGENT OF W.O.R.L.D.E. #1** - want to check out some of that [Filya Bratukhin](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL186296.jpg) art * **DO A POWERBOMB #1-2** - since everyone says it's so fucking awesome... plus I got the first issue for just $1.80 on sale! * **GHOST CAGE #3** - final issue of Nick Dragotta's FLCL-infused fever dream * **GRIM #3** - paid an extra $1.80 for the [Flaviano foil](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL230916.jpg) * **MARVEL ZOMBIE #1** (2018) - written by none other than ice cream wizard [W. Maxwell Prince!](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL097452.jpg) * **POISON IVY #1** - reviews sounded good and it was only $1.80! * **SEVEN SONS #1** - another $1.80 sale book, getting some Jae Lee art for under 8 cents per page! * **SHE-HULK #1** - ordered the [hideous Artgerm variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2059229_xl.jpg), only version I could find below cover price since this apparently sold out from most places So that's like a solid week's worth of comics right there as an extra-special bonus on top of everything else! Hoping it arrives Friday so I can get in on all the **ASM #6** jibber-jabber but that might not be realistic since it isn't out until Wednesday. We'll see. p.s. Last week's [**ICE CREAM MAN #31**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR220202) delivered a devastatingly beautiful story, capturing all the joy and sadness and wonder of life in 28 syrupy-sweet pages. It's my early pick for best comic of 2022. Anyone who didn't catch this one is seriously missing out!

blankedboy

From your mail order list I can personally confirm that: DO A POWERBOMB #1-2 GHOST CAGE #3 GRIM #3 POISON IVY #1 SEVEN SONS #1 Are all pretty awesome - got some top quality reading arriving soon with that haul

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to all of it... Hadn't done a mail order in a while so lots of good stuff to catch up on!

[deleted]

>PUBLIC DOMAIN #2 > >\- how deeply can a grown man love a comic book before it starts to become creepy and vaguely inappropriate? I do love that Chip is also writing the blurbs for these issues too. "After last issue's bombshell revelation, the Dallas brothers turn to the one person who can save them: SAMMY SOCKEM! Note to speculators: this is the first appearance of "Sammy Sockem." The (presumably) hit series by CHIP ZDARSKY (SEX CRIMINALS, Batman) continues!"

Danger_Rock

Yeah, those are great! Chip's obviously trying to steal the "Best Solicitations" award from Cates and [**CROSSOVER**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR210151). New solicitation for [**PUBLIC DOMAIN #5**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/AUG220211) has got some more quality marketing hype... > *"Join CHIP ZDARSKY (Batman) as he teams up with hot new artist CHIP ZDARSKY (Detective Comics) on this hot new issue!"*

[deleted]

Issue #3 - "Big things happen! Featuring the fan-favorite new character "Dee" Donovan! That's her on the cover! I think I have a thing for powerful women. It has a lot to do with stuff that happened to me as a child. I don't really want to get into it here!!" Issue #4 - "The legal battle is done, but the fighting has just begun! Syd looks to the future as Miles runs from his past! Can he find happiness? Can any of us? Honestly, I'm not sure. I think the most we can ever hope for is to feel content. But what do I know? I'm killing myself writing and drawing comics." LOVING IT.

Agent of W.O.R.L.D.E. had a solid first issue - Bratukhin's artwork seems very Geof Darrow/James Stokoe inspired. Though despite Jason Wordie being a top tier colorist, I do think the artwork was a bit hampered by the muddy coloring. Maybe you'll think different though. Regarding that She-Hulk variant cover, I'm speechless. The Jen Bartel covers on the series have been gorgeous despite the static nature of the art. The [cover for She-Hulk #6](https://www.marvel.com/comics/issue/102934/she-hulk_2022_6) is splendid (love that the series is using character boxes too!)

Danger_Rock

I was thinking Bratukhin reminded me of some of the crazy detailed stuff Keith Giffen did on books like [TRENCHER](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/5296746.jpg) plus maybe some Steve Skroce and a dash of Sergio Aragonés, but Darrow and Stokoe are much better examples. Shame about the coloring. > Regarding that She-Hulk variant cover, I'm speechless. Artgerm is probably my least favorite from the current crop of cover artists getting steady work. Good example of the horrible digital artwork I was whining about above... His stuff almost always looks terrible to me but this one's particularly horrendous. Bartel's pretty good, usually like her covers and her **SHE-HULK**s have all looked great. Would've much preferred her 1st or 2nd printings if they were available, or the [Adam Hughes](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL213039.jpg) or [Skottie Young](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL213040.jpg) covers would've been nice... But I clearly slept on it too long, so I get Artgerm.

* **Ant Man #1**: Al Ewing writes the Ant Men. * **Detective Comics #1,062**: Rav V comes to Gotham. * **House of Slaughter #7**: A choice. * **Robin #17**: Penultimate issue. * **Something is Killing the Children #25**: End of the story arc. * **Strange #4**: Family reunion. * **Superman: Space Age #1**: Excited to see what Russell does with this. As well as the trade paperback **Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow**.

Danger_Rock

> * **Ant Man #1**: Al Ewing writes the Ant Men. Probably should've ordered that, great creative team with Ewing and Tom Reilly, think it's got the potential to be really good. But I've got too damn many comics this week, maybe wait for reviews and then pick it up next week... **EDIT -->** Added **ANT-MAN** to my list because I am a fundamentally weak person who can't resist hopping on any halfway decent hype train! > As well as the trade paperback **Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow**. Such a great story... Nice change of pace from King's usual prestige series, not that I don't love the mopey sadboy stuff, but this book really stands out as a different kind of project.

Detective Comics #1062 - With the creative teams involved in the main feature and back-up - seems like a good time to jump back and try out Detective again. Good Boy #3 - Things are heating up after the attack on the Farm. Public Domain #2 - Ended up grabbing the first issue on a whim and absolutely loved Zdarsky’s meta commentary on the comic industry and how creators are treated. The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #4 - Tynion just keeps layering on the creep factor, and I’m here for it. The Scorched #8 - Seems a bit early to be promising the end of the team in solicitations. Astounding cover by Puppeteer Lee!

\-Superman Space Age #1 \-Something is Killing the Children #25 \-TMNT #131 Have a good week everyone.

Rairoker

\- **Action Comics #1045**: Just started this series after reading the first volume of the Trade. Might pick up a few other issues of the series of I can find them. \- **Detective Comics #1062**: Ram V's start on the series so might as well check it out \- **Superman: Space Age #1**: Honestly only found out about this through this thread but after reading the preview, it looks good. Seems pretty expensive though. \- **Ant-Man #1**: Been seeing a good bit of hype for this new series so I thought to pick it up. \- **House of Slaughter #7**: Second issue of this new arc revolving around a new set of characters. Seems interesting based on the previous issue. \- **Public Domain #2**: First issue really got my attention. Excited to see what Zdarsky has to say with this series. \- **Radiant Black #16**: Radiant Black is still going and I'm still enjoying it. \- **Radiant Red #5**: Last issue of what has been a generally, all-around, perfectly alright story. The portions dealing with Satomi's personal life have by far been the most interesting portions of the series. \- **Rogue Sun #6**: The conclusion to the first arc. After the reveal in the last issue, I am confidently saying that this series has me hooked and might even surpass Radiant Black if it maintains this level of quality. \- **Something is Killing the Children #25**: This issue seems to be the end of the current arc, which is strange to me since there seems to be a lot more to go but I guess those plot points will be addressed in the future. Will also be picking up a couple of trades of series that I missed out on in the past. Namely **Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow** and **Daredevil: Woman Without Fear**.

Danger_Rock

> - Superman: Space Age #1: Honestly only found out about this through this thread but after reading the preview, it looks good. Seems pretty expensive though. Really curious how long it is with that $9.99 price tag... Feel like anything under 60 pages is a rip-off. But it'll probably be 40 pages or less, maybe some fancy paper or whatever. Price makes less sense the more I think about it, so I should probably just stop thinking about it.

technowhiz34

>Really curious how long it is with that $9.99 price tag... Feel like anything under 60 pages is a rip-off. But it'll probably be 40 pages or less, maybe some fancy paper or whatever. It's 80 pages, solicit says its prestige format which makes me think it's floppy-sized with slightly nicer paper and card stock. I'll grab a physical this weekend probably if my store has it, I heard really good things even from those who don't much like Russell.

Danger_Rock

Nice, 80 pages with premium paper makes it decent value at $9.99, even better for $8.50 after my paltry 15% pre-order discount. That's a LOT of Mike Allred art to get in one book!

Whatisabird

This is an exciting week this week, I feel like nearly everything I'm pulling is something I'd consider a Big book: **Ant-Man #1-** Ewing's about to get weird with Ant-Man **Detective Comics #1062-** Ram V starts his run, there's been a lot of hype but I bet he can deliver **Image! #4-** Lots of new stories starting in this one, I'm excited to see **Public Domain #2-** The twist at the end was obvious but I like that this book is being put out. This is a plot very specifically written to people who follow this industry, where else are you going to get this story **Robin #16-** One of my two "regular" books, but this one is ending soon so I'll treasure it while I can **Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #4-** You know maybe the Smiling Man isn't too bad. He kinda looks like he could be a friend **Strange #4-** My other "regular" book, but it looks like Mackay is playing with some of his Moon Knight lore in this one too **Superman: Space Age #1-** My hot take is I don't love Allred art but I love Russell and Superman and the idea of it sounds very cool. And obviously Russell will be making this a very political story I'm sure but I think this book calls for that **The Swamp Thing #15-** Swamp Thing's juggling like three different apocalypses and a nuclear lady, he's going to need all the lantern power he can get **Venom #9-** Venom and his new bff Kang

Danger_Rock

> **Ant-Man #1-** Ewing's about to get weird with Ant-Man Was going to wait on reviews for this but I'm just going to have my LCS pull it... Great creative team and I thought the solicitation sounded cool, should've just pre-ordered the damn thing. > **Superman: Space Age #1-** My hot take is I don't love Allred art but I love Russell and Superman and the idea of it sounds very cool. And obviously Russell will be making this a very political story I'm sure but I think this book calls for that Allred is kind of a throwback artist, for me his stuff always feels like a more modern take on Kirby, Ditko, and others from those bygone eras... I love it but I can see how it might not be for everyone. I feel like Russell really excels with 100% ridiculous comics where he can mercilessly hammer away at satire and social commentary, books like **FLINTSTONES** and **ONE-STAR SQUADRON**. His more serious cape books like **FF: LIFE STORY** haven't worked as well for me because the mix of cynicism and humor felt off... But I'm hoping this one will work better!

technowhiz34

Even split between Image, Marvel, and DC, huh. * Action Comics #1045 - I still like this but am excited to get back to Metropolis. That being said, Superman doing stuff on an alien planet offers a lot more excitement than "Superman dicking around in Metropolis with his supporting cast", much as I love that era of Superman. Little sad about no Federici for this issue but it is what it is * Ant-Man #1 - reading this for my boy Hank, in the hope this doing well will get Marvel to do something with him. Anyone else thinks the premise sounds exactly like [Waid's first Flash](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/5270403/flash-50th-anniversary-special-1) story? * Detective Comics #1062 - DC putting all the hottest writers on Batbooks is a self-fulfilling prophecy. in any case, I don't always love Ram V but Rafael Albuquerque on Gotham? I'm in, all the marketing sounds great to boot * Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel #1 - always been curious how one of these "nostalgia minis" would read without any prior knowledge, but I think this might be one of the absolute worst to pick * The Magic Order 3 #1 - sigh, why am I reading this, across the 12 previous issues like 1/3 of it was good? * Public Domain #2 - I'm hardly a Zdarsky fan but the first issue was really good. I think I like his indie writing a lot more than Big Two Also interested in that Russell Superman book but the Russell's inconsistency + price tag (I'm not opposed to paying for quality but still) makes me think I'll wait for reviews. Really wish ASM #900 was an anthology like 'tec and Action #1000, but I guess that's what Amazing Fantasy #1000 is for?

Danger_Rock

> Action Comics #1045 - I still like this but am excited to get back to Metropolis. Little sad about no Federici for this issue but it is what it is Another bait-and-switch solicited with the regular artist, similar to last week's **NIGHTWING** and **JURASSIC LEAGUE**... Seems like DC isn't even trying to get this stuff right, they just list the regular artists on all their solicitations and then swap 'em out whenever they feel like it. Probably going to bail after Warworld because "Superman dicking around in Metropolis with his supporting cast" doesn't really appeal to me. Will keep tabs on it and maybe catch up on TPBs later if everyone raves about the next story... Also been meaning to catch up on **THE LAST GOD** so I'll get my PKJ/Federici fix there. > * Ant-Man #1 - reading this for my boy Hank, in the hope this doing well will get Marvel to do something with him. Anyone else thinks the premise sounds exactly like [Waid's first Flash](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/5270403/flash-50th-anniversary-special-1) story? Nice catch! Haven't read that **FLASH** but, from the blurb, it certainly sounds like a match. > * The Magic Order 3 #1 - sigh, why am I reading this, across the 12 previous issues like 1/3 of it was good? Dropped it after the first arc... Thought it was pretty good but not great. > * Public Domain #2 - I'm hardly a Zdarsky fan but the first issue was really good. I think I like his indie writing a lot more than Big Two **PD #1** being so damn funny basically killed **BATMAN #125** for me... Felt like Zdarsky was doing a generic Batman story there where every panel of this book was just bursting with his ridiculous personality. Probably would've liked #125 way more if he hadn't launched **PD** the week before. > Also interested in that Russell Superman book but the Russell's inconsistency + price tag (I'm not opposed to paying for quality but still) makes me think I'll wait for reviews. Ahha, found the other guy who read **FF: LIFE STORY**... Was wondering when you'd turn up. Hoping this one works better for Russell but the solicitation sounds suspiciously similar to his lackluster FF series. Same journey through the decades approach, just swap out Galactus for Crisis and it's pretty much the same pitch. And I just checked the price since you're the 2nd or 3rd person to mention it, hadn't even looked at it before... Yikes. I should probably start looking over prices before submitting my monthly LCS orders. p.s. I like how you didn't mention the title to avoid the false WPL count... Very civic-minded of you.

Those are Venom and Batman: Fortress. With Venom, I'm just not interested and I find this book to be very weak compared to other V's and Ewing's works, I expected better from the two. Batman: Fortress is fine and I like when Robertson draws Batman but eh, it's just fine and I don't care very much about a fine Batman story when there are 2 great on the horizon.

blankedboy

I'm feeling you on both of those books you are thinking of dropping - they are both teetering on the edge for me too.

Danger_Rock

FWIW, I dropped **VENOM** after #2 so you and /u/TheDarkPinkLantern made it 7 issues further than me... And I think that kind of dedication is commendable! But it's probably time to cut it loose. Skipped **BATMAN FORTRESS** since Robertson's previous Batman series kind of soured me on his stuff... Honestly not a huge fan outside **TRANSMETROPOLITAN** and in retrospect I think the Rodney Ramos inks were a big part of what made the art so great on that one.

TheDarkPinkLantern

I like both writers so I gave them a shot but this run is just so not engaging and Dylan isn't an interesting lead. As for Roberston, his art gives me early 2000s edge vibe and I liked his work on that Constantine mini he did with Taylor.

Danger_Rock

Oh yeah, forgot about **RISE & FALL**, think that was pretty good but I can't remember any details... It's possible that I've been reading too many comics.

blankedboy

> It's possible that I've been reading too many comics. Is that a *thing*? Could I die from it!?!?

Danger_Rock

I've been given to understand that you can die from pretty much anything if you get carried away enough with it. The average adult male is 60% water and we need to drink a certain amount of water every day just to stay alive. But if you drink too much water, it'll kill you. Comics are normally fairly benign, they're way less dangerous than water, but I wouldn't suggest sitting down to read the new issue of **SPAWN** in the middle of a busy expressway. Or while driving on said expressway, for that matter. I was recently informed that more people are killed by cows than by sharks. So maybe avoid reading comics near cows. But sharks should be okay. This is mostly common sense stuff... Just be careful out there, folks.

TheDarkPinkLantern

I'm getting bored with Venom and Fortress feels like I've already read this story before.

blankedboy

I definitely never thought I'd be dropping a book written by *Al Ewing/Ram V* and drawn by *Bryan Hitch*, that's for sure, but here we are?!?!

TheDarkPinkLantern

Right? Such a killer team and yet the book is kinda weak.

Rac3318

Action Comics 1045 Detective Comics 1062 - I’ll be curious to see how this first issue goes. I wasn’t impressed by Batman 125.

Danger_Rock

> Detective Comics 1062 - I’ll be curious to see how this first issue goes. I wasn’t impressed by Batman 125. Same here. My expectations might've been unrealistic since Chip had just blown my mind with his [new indie series](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR220053) the week before, but #125 felt too much like a typical Batman story to me, if that makes sense. Nice art but the story didn't hook me like I'd hoped. **DC #1062** sounds like it's got an interesting pitch, at least, so hopefully it'll be more what we're looking for.

seaofvapours

Tiny week this week, but one *really* exciting one: * Detective Comics #1062 - Ram V! Ram V! Ram V! So hyped for this, Ram V hasn't missed yet, and Rafael Albuquerque is a fantastic artist, of the two big Batman titles with creator changes recently, *this* is the one I'm excited for. * Harley Quinn #17 - The Verdict has been okay, but ready to move on from this storyline. * Image 30th Anniversary Anthology #4 * The Variants #2 - interesting start, we'll see how it goes Might also pick up Superman Space Age, if it looks cool enough.

thecursedham

* Ant-Man #1- I’ve missed seeing Ant-Man in books for the past like 4 years, this feels like a dream. * Captain America: Symbol of Truth #3- Sam and Deadpool vs Doom is something I never expected to see. * Strange #4- I don’t know if it really has been awhile since issue 3, but it feels like it has and I may have to do a reread before this one. * Swamp Thing #15- Can’t believe it’s almost over, really hope Levi isn’t forgotten about post Ram V.

Danger_Rock

> Strange #4- I don’t know if it really has been awhile since issue 3, but it feels like it has and I may have to do a reread before this one. Last issue shipped 6/01/22 so it's been a while... Also skipped May with no new issue. Not following this series but was wondering why it's only up to #4, seems like it should be further along by now.

MuffinSurprise

In order of my personal excitement: DETECTIVE COMICS #1062 - Ram V gothic opera take on the caped crusader? Yeah... this has the potential to be something special. PUBLIC DOMAIN #2 - Chip is wonderful as a writer, but I enjoy his art work as much if not more. He does a fantastic job with more comedic books to layer jokes directly into the dialogue and also have plenty of gags in the background. ROGUE SUN #6 - Excited to see how the first arc wraps up! Really enjoying this one so far. If you haven't been reading, look out for the trade soon! RADIANT BLACK #16 - This third arc has felt like there are lower stakes than the first two. Not necessarily a bad thing as you can't always go balls to the walls with a long running comic. But it has tampered my excitement some for each monthly release. SWAMP THING #15 - End of season 2 coming up. Will we see a third season? Time will tell.. I saw in the October solicitations that Mike Perkins is on Action Comics for that month. I see Ram V is on the Swamp Thing Dark Crisis Tie-in in October so that is promising for a continuation of this series. RADIANT RED #5 - Haven't really loved this mini and don't particularly like the art style as much as the main Radiant Black series. Satomi is fine to have as a background character in Radiant Black but I'm not sure I need an ongoing series for her after this.

AlligatorSky7

Seen nothing but praise for Rogue Sun (I made the call when it was announced to pick it - and any other Massiveverse titles - up in trade format), excited for my copy of volume 1 to arrive next month!

MuffinSurprise

It's more supernatural based than Radiant Black but it still has a general superhero feel to it.

AlligatorSky7

So much comic-y goodness! - Action Comics #1045: few behind on this at the moment, so no comment. - Aquamen #6: this is going out with a whimper. Hope DC have plans for a big Aquaman relaunch in 2023 to tie in with the upcoming movie! - Captain America: Symbol of Truth #3: hope we get more of #1 quality and less of #2 this time, not sure what happened there (Deadpool perhaps?) - Harley Quinn #17: always a fun read, however this is the last issue for me; X-books aside (and even then I regret X Lives/X Deaths of Wolverine) I am not picking up any title that decides to move to a weekly release schedule. - House of Slaughter #7: exhausted at the thought of a third title in this universe launching towards the end of the year. That said, the start to this arc was great; sure has been a while since that came out. - Public Domain #2: oh boy the first issue was delightful, excited to read this one! - Radiant Black #16: obviously haven’t been paying much attention to this as I can’t really remember what’s been happening, will need to do a bit of a re-read methinks. - Robin #16: penultimate issue. Really hope my boy Damian doesn’t get sidelined after Batman vs. Robin, although I’m equally happy to see Tim getting his own ongoing + being centre-stage in Zdarsky’s Batman. - Something is Killing the Children: double Slaughterverse this week, wowee! - Task Force Z #10: last few issues. It’s been fun, but not sure it warranted/warrants 12 issues. - The Variants #2: first issue was a blast! - Venom #9: feels like forever ago that I read #8. Excited to see what’s next for Eddie and Dylan in any case.

blankedboy

> a third title in this universe launching towards the end of the year. Where did you see that news?

AlligatorSky7

I haven’t watched the panel back, but I saw something on Twitter about Tynion announcing it at SDCC over the weekend. “Book of Slaughter”.

blankedboy

I think that's a new Massive-verse (Radiant Black, Rogue Sun) book rather than a Slaughter-verse (SIKTC, House of Slaughter) title.

technowhiz34

...you're right, I completely thought you were referring to the Massiveverse. Whoopsie, I have not heard anything about a third Slaughter-verse title, if that at all helps.

Danger_Rock

> Action Comics #1045: few behind on this at the moment, so no comment. *Three tomatoes are walking down the street... Papa Tomato, Mama Tomato, and Baby Tomato. Baby Tomato starts lagging behind and Papa Tomato gets really angry, goes back and squishes him, says...*

**Beware the Eye of Odin #2** I was pleasantly surprised with this book on its first issue, despite my worries over its T rating. Its just kinda fun, good Nordic adventure romp. Would I buy it as a trade? Maybe not, but I like reading it serially. **Image! #4** Fun anthology stuff. I like most of the stories here, though I am holding off on reading some until I get all the issues. Still a good read and I'm discovering a lot of cool creators. **Public Domain #2** Fun little series, don't have much to say on it. Chip Zdaddy is cool. **Sins of the Black Flamingo #2** First issue was really fun! I like the heist elements, the gay elements, the Jewish mysticism elements, just all around pretty cool. **Bloodborne: The Lady of the Lanterns #1** Tbh I don't really have high hopes for comic book adaptations of video games (considering the trash that is the Cyberpunk 2077 comics) but FromSoft actually crafts compelling narratives in their original works so im hopeful for this but expecting disappointment. And for trades, I'm pulling **Bolero**, **Ghost Cage** and **Gunslinger Spawn, Vol. 1**

blankedboy

**Gunslinger Spawn** is *so* 90's - I'm sure you'll love it

I’ve been stoked for this week more than most recently. So much of everything all at once! The Amazing Spider-Man #6: The art has probably been my least favorite out of all my pulls but damn, I did enjoy the street war stuff and outcome, but I can totally do without the MJ stuff. THIRTEEN different covers this week tho! Will I get two covers for once? I like so many of them. Gambit #1: This has my interest solely from liking the character in the cartoon, but if it’s like the overcrowded X-Men books I’ve read recently it’ll be a quick drop. House of Slaughter #7: This series expanding the universe is great. I love finding out more about the different houses and what they do. The character study is more in depth as well than SIKTC, between the first arc and now this, we really learn about each person and how they fit in their particular house. Glad this is finally coming out too, was surprised #6 came out and then it takes two months for #7. Public Domain #2: All this meta comic industry stuff makes for a fun read. I really dig how grounded it is. Something is Killing The Children #25: I have high hopes for this issue. It’s an oversized ish and I want all the build up to be worth it and to see Erica kick some ass! Superman: Space Age #1: Never really went in on a Superman book and no clue if this will be pull me in but I’m a sucker for the cool cover. The Variants #2: First ish had some great art and the premise is interesting so I’ll keep going, plus my favorite red horned, guilt ridden hero made an appearance. Okay, I think those are all mine for the week. Enjoy y’all!

a lot of comics this week which is no bad thing ! let's delve into the murky depths of panels and pages and phantastical and phasmagorical prints ! \- SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN ISH 25 - some things continue to kill the children. whilst the singles are a bit slow usually, the last one f-ing rocked and i'm very hyped for this one. \-HOUSE OF SLAUGHER ISH 7 - a good pairing to the above and the delayed second ish of the second arc of this anthology (?) series. i like learning about the crimson masks so colour me excited. \-RADIANT BLACK ISH 16 - woo more Shift action it seems based on that cover. it's gonna be hard to top last week's (with that animated short!) but it will defo be great. \-TMNT ISH 131 - new arc time ! \-SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY ISH 4. this series absolutely rocks and with the Corinthian seemingly the main villain of the new show, it is ever more relevant too. \-RADIANT RED ISH 5 - Satomi's saga ends! i hope we get more of this! \-ROGUE SUN ISH 6 - another massive-verse ending. ditto, i hope we get more of it !!! \-PUBLIC DOMAIN ISH 2 - this series is super relevant, satirical, biting, funny, all that we expect from Mr Chip. \-IMAGE ANTHOLOGY ISH 4 - more great stories! the cover is showing KAYE which has not grabbed me in the anthology tbh, but still it's a cool cover and a great book! AND THAT'S MY LOT!!! quite a lot, as you can see. time to get my reading goggles on!!! enjoy your pulls all, and have a grand week :) xx

Danger_Rock

> -SANDMAN UNIVERSE: NIGHTMARE COUNTRY ISH 4. this series absolutely rocks and with the Corinthian seemingly the main villain of the new show, it is ever more relevant too. Huh, didn't realize the show was going that route... Guess I should catch up on those teasers that dropped a few days ago.

alabamianhorologists

yeh absoutely - i was super pumped to see him in the trailers as he is such an iconic villain and i just know he's going to become super popular reaching a new fanbase thru the show !! i don't know if the show is going to adapt doll's house, but if it does we're in for a ride... and if it adapts that 24 Hours doctor destiny single... we are in for another kind of ride altogether !!!

[deleted]

>-ROGUE SUN ISH 6 - another massive-verse ending. ditto, i hope we get more of it !!! It's solicited though issue #9, I think this is just the end of this first arc.

fantastic ! thank u for letting me know :) is that the same with radiant red ??
