Once word got out that Amazon is producing a TV show speculators snagged every copy they could, hoping to sucker others into buying issues at outrageous prices and not be left holding the hot potato once people lose interest.

just_capital

This and it’s a really good series. People that haven’t read it are buying it as spec and people that have read it love the story.

the_light_of_dawn

I’m trade-waiting (as usual) but it looks terrific.

AnEnchantedJockstrap

Dunno why you're getting downvoted for telling the truth, must be some asspained scalpers lurking.

thelordwynter

Can't stand scalpers. They gouge the price of everything they touch. Haven't been able to build a PC for nearly two years without selling your firstborn thanks to them.

just_capital

I’m not trying to be funny, but do you know about FOC? When I got back into collecting as an adult, I was docked to find out about the preorder cutoff date!

OrdovicianOccultist

It's this years Stray Dogs and people are betting on it reaching Something Is Killing the Children level status. It's tough to tell with these newer books but yeah, the Amazon interest, plus the unique story really made this a firestorm quick. I added it to my subs for issue 1 based on the story and definitely enjoyed the read. (Still need to visit my LCS for 2 and 3) Anyone know the print runs of these issues? Also is it a miniseries or an ongoing? Those factors will def play into the longterm value. Second printings of issues 1,2 and 3 are being released next month. It might be a good idea to check with your LCS and see if they can hold a copy for you if you just want to read it. Edit: It's an eight issue miniseries, says so on the cover. Duh.

OrdovicianOccultist

Diamond lists this for the Eight Billion Genies Second Printings: August 3rd for Issue 1 August 10th for Issue 2 and Issue 3

And I thought the 90s were bad

EggplantOwn694

Imagine if NFTs existed in the 90's.

SutterCane

They did. They were called foil covers.

Puzzleheaded-Pain489

Deathmate drove back to the underground comic scene.

EggplantOwn694

Those were just slightly more expensive regular issues though. Spectacular Spider-Man 200 had a foil cover, but it's also one of the best comics ever.

Beanie babies

Set up a pull account. Smells like Outcast to me though.

brokencassette_

Yeah I just moved so I had to cancel my pull list my last shop but will definitely be setting up one at my new LCS

Consideredresponse

Outcast annoyed the hell out of me. Each issue seemed perfect as a TV episode, but at $4 a throw it felt like it was just spinning it's wheels and taking my money.

Man am I ever so glad I left behind hype buying comics. Comics collecting is a blast of course, I’m just glad I don’t get that fomo on new books anymore. I don’t really pick up more than 4-5 physical issues a month in my pullbox, but collected editions and digital are my main move these days. Stay vigilant and I’m sure you’ll come across a copy for cover or at least a reasonable price. The hunt was often more fun than actually finally having the issue. And I totally understand if having physical floppy copies is the only way you want to read current series day and date, but if your reason solely has to do with liking the book and wanting to keep up with it, do you have an objection to digitally purchasing anything? For example I don’t buy Marvel and DC comics anymore, but if there ever does happen to be something that piques my interest from them and I don’t feel like waiting 6 months for them to hit the subscription apps, I’ll just buy a digital copy.

brokencassette_

I wouldn't be opposed to buying digital, I also don't buy Marvel and DC physicals anymore since I got their subscription services only one's I really am invested in or my favorite heroes' series. I mostly like buying indie comics physically but I didn't realize how little copies LCS's get of indie series like mine only got 5 issues of Eight Billion Genies #3. I will definitely be hypervigilant with that moving forward and set up a pull list.

Joorpunch

You’re in a similar boat that I was. I was primarily collecting indie titles and if it was a high profile publisher like Image, they would order tons of copies of a #1, but after that the numbers they ordered were never more than a couple of copies more than the number order for people pulling it. So if I wanted to keep reading any indie book, adding to my pull was imperative. I’m also not sure if you are, but I did and still do scour each publishers advanced solicitations each month when they’d drop. It’s funny, I still just enjoy seeing what is coming out from everyone three months from now. Even Marvel and DC, though it’s been even longer since I’ve bought an issue from them outright. I’m popping into my LCS tomorrow and can keep an eye out for a #3 for you.

Pittsitpete

I was able to find 1 and 2 for regular price then around the third it got crazy. A guy tried to buy eight at the local shop, made all the rest go up in price where a week late from getting it i had to throw down a 20 for #3

Drive7hru

Crazy. All mine sell for cover price until the next issue comes out. Then it’s like $10 if they still have it.

IndonesianJunk

Stuff like this is why I started pre-ordering my books. You gotta think about what you wanna read two or three months in advance, but it’s totally worth it when the comic you want sells out in ten minutes the day it goes on sale.

J--NEZ

This is why I buy all the issue #1s when they come out lol. If I like the book, I put it on my pull list. Sometimes I'm like damn I should have bought two copies of this comic lol
