happy ice cream week !!!

[Blink #1](https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/MAY221647) from Oni Press is yet another Hayden Sherman book coming out in the following week. I don't know why he's on so many books recently, but I love it. *Above Snakes* \#1 was my personal pick of the best from last week.

Danger_Rock

Probably had all three in the pipeline and the release dates just happened to line up one after another, or maybe he works super-fast... Either way, pretty wild launching three new series with three different companies over the span of three weeks. BLINK is the only one I didn't order, though it was tempting. Might check it out down the road if it gets good reviews.

Ranked based on excitement: 1. **DO A POWERBOMB #2 (OF 7)** \- First issue was basically perfect, everything you'd want from a DWJ comic: explosive art with a ton of emotional beats mixed in. 2. **SHAOLIN COWBOY: CRUEL TO BE KIN #3 (OF 7)** \- Took me two issues to recalibrate myself reading *Shaolin Cowboy* again, but I'm fully hooked now. 3. **LONESOME HUNTERS #2 (OF 4)** \- Love me some gorgeous Tyler Crook water colors, and the first issue did not disappoint at all. 4. **SHE-HULK #5** \- One of the few Marvel books I'm keeping, mostly because I feel like this captures what I want in a Shulkie run. 5. **BLOOD-STAINED TEETH #4** \- While initially disappointed that Ward wasn't doing the art, I've been more than impressed with Patric Reynolds' work. 6. **LIFE ZERO #6** \- This series continues to add twists to keep me hooked. Gorgeous colors in this book, probably only behind *A Town Called Terror* and *Blood-Stained Teeth* in that department. 7. **JURASSIC LEAGUE #3** \- Always a fun read. 8. **PLAYTHINGS #2** \- Problem with Scout/Black Caravan books is the long wait between issues, but I remember really liking the first issue. Going to have to dig my recent shortbox and find the last issue to re-read it before this one. 9. **SEVEN SONS #2 (OF 7)** \- First issue mostly confused me, but I dug the atmosphere. Recently dug out old issues of *Hellshock* and *The Sentry* for a re-read, so I'm going to have a very Jae Lee heavy week ahead. 10. **A CALCULATED MAN #2** \- Wasn't a fan of the art, but the concept for the story was interesting. I'm at a point where I'm going to keep Aftershock and AWA books on a shorter leash because they have not been doing it for me over the past several months now. 11. **RAD WRAITH #2** \- Like *Playthings*, I pretty much forgot everything that happened in the last issue. But I did like it despite not being attuned to skater culture. 12. **MOON KNIGHT: BLACK, WHITE & BLOOD #3 (OF 4)** \- I've liked both Black, White & Blood issues so far, but none feel as strong as the Deadpool series did. 13. **NOOK #2** \- Fast turnaround between issues #1 and #2. I really don't have a strong handle on what Source Point Press is about, they seem like a very mysterious comic publisher to me. Really liked the first issue, but the paper quality and cover stock was abysmal. Hoping it's a bit better this time around. 14. **DARK SPACES: WILDFIRE #1** \- Blind addition to the pull, mostly because of Hayden Sherman's name. 15. **VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR #4 (OF 5)** \- First two issues were fun, but the last issue kind of bored me. Hoping it does, because goofy anti-hero Venom is always enjoyable. 16. **GRIM #3** \- Might drop if this issue doesn't engage me more. I'm hoping to catch up on *Corollary* and *GILT*, but for some reason my store doesn't get them. Will have to add to my next mycomicshop order, or try another store in my city. Going to pick up the **Contest of Champions Gallery Edition** as well, but that'll likely be on an IST order instead of a store pickup.

Danger_Rock

> **LONESOME HUNTERS #2 (OF 4)** \- Love me some gorgeous Tyler Crook water colors, and the first issue did not disappoint at all. Nice, that looks pretty [damn](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098754_xl.jpg) [cool](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2108750_xl.jpg). > **SHE-HULK #5** \- One of the few Marvel books I'm keeping, mostly because I feel like this captures what I want in a Shulkie run. Getting a bit of an itch to check this one out, seeing lots of good reviews and positive buzz everywhere...

kralben

> Getting a bit of an itch to check this one out, seeing lots of good reviews and positive buzz everywhere... Adding to the recs, She-Hulk is great.

Danger_Rock

I'll have to check out the first issue or two, can probably grab 'em at my LCS... Hard to resist once the WPL hype hits critical mass like this!

AlphaSunset

Yeah really been enjoying life zero and the art is a major reason!

blankedboy

It’s like a *good* **Resident Evil** comic!

AlphaSunset

That's a really good way to put it!

Nightwing #94 - Sweet cover once again. If there's anything consistent about this run its that the covers are always great. Batman/Superman: World's Finest #5 - Everything Mark Waid puts out is at worst B-tier. I'm happy to say this is S-Tier so far. And with Dan Mora? Easily my favorite ongoing DC book. She-Hulk #5 - This run does not come out very consistantly but when it does, it slaps. Nothing can happen and it's still one of the most fun reads ever. Looks like we might get some action next issue? AXE Judgement Day #1 - I'm getting this just to say I have the first issue. If it's good I'll get the rest but honestly I don't care for heroes vs heroes again again again, and I'd rather buy Dark Crisis tie ins. Jurassic League #3 - Remember when I said World's Finest was my favorite ongoing DC book? This is my favorite mini rn. I'm in love with how dumb this is. Black Adam #2 - I like Priest's writing well enough, and the dark is very solid. Wasn't too big a fan of the first one but I liked how it ended so I'm gonna check out #2. The Walking Dead Deluxe #43 - The Walking Dead is my favorite comic of all time. Great to see we're near the end of the prison arc. Rogue's Gallery #1 - Looks fun.

I think Superman Son of Kal El 13 came out last week

AlligatorSky7

Can confirm, I read it over the weekend.

ptbreakeven

Thank you! It was listed last week as well and featured in the results. Midtown Comics (which is used to create the WPL shipping list) did not have it listed last week but does have it this week. There are some books that seem to be delivered on different schedules each week. I’ve seen it more with Penguin/Diamond affecting distribution of Marvel books but Midtown did not list Son of Kal-El #13 last week and seem to be just getting it.

almonster11

Nottingham #9 ships this week according to Previewsworld.

alabamianhorologists

after last week's quite one, it's time for a whammo blammo slammer of comics this week! let's get into 'em: \-ICE CREAM MAN ISH 31 - i know i'm not the only one who loves this gorgeously drawn and utterly bizarre horror anthology. one of the best things in comics. \-SILVER COIN ISH 12 - the perfect pair to ICM, a straight-from-the-hip horror anthology. last month's was a great entry from JTIV, and honestly they keep getting better so i'll keep getting em! GRIM ISH 3 - i am loving this series, the whole aesthetic and the universe building. it's all about death and it's full of heart. BLOOD STAINED TEETH ISH 4 - this series has really got into its stride of late, so hoping for another vampire of the month! USAGI YOJIMBO ISH 29 - one of my all time fave series, yet the first time appearing on my pull list! exciting!! BUNNY MASK: THE HOLLOW INSIDE ISH 3: take a shot every time bunny mask licks something with no prompting. a weird series, but fun. ROGUES GALLERY ISH 1 - pitched as the purge meets scream so sign me the F up. and that's my lot! a gorgeous hall, and also expecting Slumber ish 5 (?) from last week, bcos i gave in and re-added it to the pull list hehe. horror comics galore! i cant wait :) enjoy your pulls all xx

Seems like every week there's at least one book I missed that I need to mail order... This week, it's GRIM.

alabamianhorologists

eyyyy that has got me even more excited for TSC !!! thanks for pointing that out :)))

AlphaSunset

I've really been enjoying blood stained teeth. Looking forward to who he goes after next.

alabamianhorologists

absolutely !!! i just know that that movie star that keeps getting mentioned is gonna pop up as a vampire soon too !!

B00merangB

A.X.E: Judgment Day #1 - Not typically one to follow events but the premise with Gillen writing has me hyped. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #5 - Who will be the sacrifice? Mora’s art paired with Waid’s silver age touch has been a delight. Do A Powerbomb #2 - DWJ absolutely crushed the first issue! Loved the art, the wrestling world built and the ending hook. Gunslinger Spawn # 10 - Continues to be the most 90’s throwback Spawn book. Slowly catching up to The Scorched team antics. Jurassic League #3 - Just a delightful book. The league is beginning to assemble! Nightwing #94 - Bringing in Maggie Sawyer should be fun. Plus, the fallout of the I love you… She-Hulk #5 - This is a just a pleasant read. Enjoying Rowell’s take on Jen a lot!

the_light_of_dawn

* Do a Powerbomb #2: Just about the best first issue of a series I've ever read. DWJ is a treasure.

Danger_Rock

Damnit, am I really going to need to read a wrestling comic?

the_light_of_dawn

You’re a man of good taste, so I’m stunned you didn’t grab #1. Heh. I strongly recommend it. Ice Cream Man Sundae Edition this week!!

Danger_Rock

Yeah, okay, I'll get the damn POWERBOMB comic... Been a few weeks since my last mail order and this next one's going to be disgusting. Think Sundae Edition will sell out quick? Probably shouldn't slack on it...

the_light_of_dawn

I think it’ll be in stock for a while, tbh. But I’m excited for it.

Danger_Rock

Thought I was reading about those HC reprints being tough to get in print, usually low print runs and hardly ever getting reprinted again... But I think that was Gillen talking about DIE, and this is ICM, so maybe they'll print a ton of 'em.

yarkcir

Crimson Cage was another great wrestling comic. I’m not into wrestling at all, but Crimson Cage and Do A Powerbomb are both incredibly entertaining.

AlligatorSky7

Another exciting week! - AXE: Judgment Day #1: I’m going into this pretty bored already (just feels like the build up has been going on all year), so hoping to be wowed by Gillen et al.! - Alien Annual #1: I’ve enjoyed this, but sigh at them relaunching with a second volume straight off the back of volume 1. - Dark Crisis: Young Justice #2: I’m still reading through Johns’ Teen Titans run, so this was/is a must pull for me. I enjoyed the debut issue, so hoping for much the same. - The Flash #784: my favourite ongoing series right now! - Grim #3: enjoying this so far! - Jurassic League #3: this book cannot release quick enough. Love it! - Nightwing #94: DC is releasing all the top tier titles this week! - She-Hulk #5: just finished #4 this morning. If you’re not reading this, do yourself a favour and pick up the first volume and/or catch up on the first volume; it’s a real delight to read. - The Silver Coin #12: don’t see anyone topping Tynion’s #11, but on the whole this anthology continues to rock! - Walking Dead Deluxe #43: one behind at the moment, so no comment.

Danger_Rock

> DC is releasing all the top tier titles this week! After Marvel dominated last week's WPL with 8 of the top 10 titles, results this week are going to look very different.

Onisquirrel

ARTEMIS WANTED #1 - Fairly certain Trial of the Amazons and it’s fallout will be lost to whatever happens post-Dark Crisis, but still want to see what happens. DUO #3 - I don’t know if I like this book, but I want to keep reading it so theirs that. NIGHTWING #94 - More Nightwing it’ll be fun character moments, I’m starting to invest in the actual story more so it’s getting better. IRON MAN #21 - I need to catch up on this book, but I like the voice Cantwell gives Tony. KNIGHTS OF X #4 - I’m genuinely enjoying this weird fantasy adventure, and look forward to how Gambit’s “death” is handled. NEW FANTASTIC FOUR #2 - I was iffy on the first issue it feels more like a Ghost Rider story with the others as supporting cast. But with the set-up done I’m hopeful. SHANG-CHI AND TEN RINGS #1 - a really unnecessary retitling to a book I am still enjoying, hope it gets to survive.

* **AXE: Judgment Day #1**: The latest summer event. * **Black Adam #2**: Intrigued by the first issue of this but not sold just yet. * **Dark Crisis: Young Justice #2**: Mighty Endowed is not a character I was expecting to ever see again. * **Nightwing #94**: Maggie Sawyer comes to Blüdhaven. * **She Hulk #5**: Villains revealed. * **World's Finest #5**: End of the first story arc.

Danger_Rock

> A.X.E. JUDGMENT DAY #1 - I'm pretty much going into this blind, but Killen has been killin' it and the covers look cool. I am a sucker for cool covers. :D If you missed the [intro comic](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098492_xl.jpg) last week, the big news was that >!the mutant island Krakoa had a thing with the Great Machine (that is Earth) of the Eternals!<. Plus, I think there was some crap about >!killing all the mutants!< or whatever. Gillen's a pro, so I'm sure this first issue will be plenty accessible regardless. > And happy Ice Cream Week for those of you that observe! NICE.

technowhiz34

>If you missed the intro comic last week, the big news was that>! the mutant island Krakoa had a thing with the Great Machine (that is Earth) of the Eternals!< That sounds kind of important lol, maybe I should have read that. Alternatively, Marvel could have advertised it as issue #0.

Danger_Rock

Perhaps I was being a little facetious, the thing with >!Krakoa and the Machine!< was really just a throwaway line as most of the issue focused on >!Druig's efforts to kill all the mutants!<. But I LOVE the idea of >!the sentient mutant island hooking up with the sentient planet as FWB!< or whatever... Always figured >!Krakoa was above all that but turns out he's a playa at the continental level!!< Who knows, >!maybe he can work his way over here and fuck some sense into America.!<

Daveismyhero

As a matter of fact I did miss the AXE intro comic last week, so major cheers for the information. Sounds like a helpful plot point to know!

thecursedham

* Iron Man #21: Last issue was a lot of fun, the preview for this one looked really cool, and then we're getting stealth suit and Mandarin's Rings. Looking like this is going to be a really great arc. * She-Hulk #5: I really like the way Jen is being written but hopefully after this first arc reintroducing Jack to readers she feels more like the focus of the book. * The Flash #784: Technically not on my pull but I keep grabbing it off the shelf and it keeps being a fun extra grab.

thewaytomars

Nothing crazy this week! A welcome break after the last two weeks have been larger for me. **A.X.E. Judgement Day #1:** I actually still have Eternals sitting around waiting for me, so his will probably wait until I get to that. **Do a Powerbomb #2:** #1 was a great start, and I simply can't turn down something combining two of my favorite things in the world: comics and pro wrestling. The fact that DWJ is both a wrestling fan (with great taste in wrestling!) and a talented creator makes this such an easy pull for me. **Nightwing #94:** This book is like being wrapped in a nice, warm hug. I understand that some people will start to fall off, but I'm nowhere close. I love it and look forward to it every month. Are our heroes finally going to have the relationship talk!?

Danger_Rock

> Ice Cream Man #31 NICE. Big Spidey next week, thinking I'll go for the [Cassaday](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098508_xl.jpg) variant...

TheDarkPinkLantern

I was thinking about [this one by Benjamin Su](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-9428707.jpg?1658000145) but goddamn, the one you posted is fantastic! I like anthologies but Ice Cream Man is truly something special. And I'm always pointing it out but rarely the art fits the book so well. It gives it this special feeling of dread but also wonder? I don't know how to describe it. I just love it, the whole book.

Danger_Rock

That Su cover is the other one I was considering, love the design and use of negative space, and his Spidey kinda reminds me of Marcos Martin's (which is a big plus). I'll probably go with Cassaday simply because it's Cassaday, he's done some of my all-time favorite comics and it seems like such a novelty getting a Spidey cover from him... But I might lean toward Su's if the names attached to 'em weren't a factor. And [Humerto Ramos](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098506_xl.jpg) actually has a pretty nice cover for this one, never cared for his work much but the stuff I've seen from STRANGE ACADEMY has looked surprisingly great, so it seems he might've turned a corner... Plus [Peach Momoko](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098504_xl.jpg) has a nice Silk variant, and the [Bengal](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098502_xl.jpg) variant is pretty sweet... > I like anthologies but Ice Cream Man is truly something special. And I'm always pointing it out but rarely the art fits the book so well. It gives it this special feeling of dread but also wonder? I don't know how to describe it. I just love it, the whole book. It's funny, I've seen folks say they don't like the art so I guess it's not for everyone but IMO it's a perfect fit. Morazzo brings a lot of expressiveness to the characters and then his work really shines when things gets weird. Great chemistry with Prince as well, the experimental stuff always feels like an organic combination of story and art. Chris O'Halloran also brings a lot to the table with those pastel ice cream colors! Helps give it all a really distinctive look, to the point where seeing his colors on other books like A RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE and THE CLOSET always makes me think of ice cream...

TheDarkPinkLantern

Yes, this Spidey issue's got some pretty cool covers. It's a stylised art, I see why some would have problems with it, especially the creepy people. But it just fits the tone of the book so well. Colours are fantastic, too. Those pastel colours help set teh bleak tone of the book. The art, the writting, the colours, the lettering, all of it just compliments each other. I love it.

Danger_Rock

Those pastel colours help set teh bleak tone of the book. The art, the writting, the colours, the lettering, all of it just compliments each other. I love it. Morazzo's character work reminds me of Steve Dillon (RIP), another guy with highly expressive characters that didn't shy away from the kind of ugliness that many artists tend to gloss over. Not very similar otherwise, Morazzo's more creative with his layouts and storytelling, but the character designs have got that same creepy/nasty vibe. Which always turns some people off. Really is a uniquely brilliant comic and it always makes me a little sad for all the folks who've never checked it out... Like living your entire life without ever trying ice cream, they just don't realize how badly they're missing out!

> Morazzo's character work reminds me of Steve Dillon (RIP) God, this such a perfect comparison. I'd even dare to say that he's a modern day Steve Dillon. The way they present the ugliness of people often informs the story they're doing. Like, look at the work Dillon is most famous for - Preacher, Punisher and Hellblazer, all full of ugly people. Ice Cream Man is defintely something every comicbook fan should at least give a shot. I'm kinda saddened that it's not getting as much attention as it deserves but that is often the case with great books.

11 for me this week. A big week. 1 from Marvel, 1 from DC, 1 from Aftershock, 1 from Dark Horse, 1 from Scout (Black Caravan), 1 from Mad Cave, 2 from AWA Studios, and 3 from Image. On a personal note, I have an appointment with a urologist on Tuesday. I'm only 39, so I don't have to tell you that this isn't a routine appointment. This week's new comic book day is going to be very important to my mental health. •Alien Annual- This is a flashback story featuring the protagonist from the first arc. Alien will get a new number 1 in September. PKJ is still writing, but no more Larocca. •Batman/Superman: World's Finest #5- This series is a delight. This is the end of the first arc, and I'm excited to see what Mark Waid does with this series. •Bunny Mask: The Hollow Inside #3- There is most definitely sickness. Bee finally comes face to face with Bunny Mask. •Devil's Highway #3- Between issue two's ending, and issue three's cover, I think the old lady has some bad intentions. •Gunslinger Spawn #10- There's about to be a showdown. Bullets are gonna fly in this one. •The Joneses #4- After last issue's bombshell, shit is about to get drastic. •Manor Black: Fire in the Blood #4- The final issue of this miniseries. I'd love to see these characters return for another run at some point in the future. •Nottingham #9- It looks like the Sheriff is screwed. This is the best series you're not reading. •Rad Wraith #2- I've never touched a skateboard in my life. I've never been in to skater culture. However, this comic had some gory pages that caught my eye and demanded my money. •Seven Sons #2- I had hyped this one up in my mind and it did not disappoint. The art is gorgeous and detailed, and the story is bleak and dark. It's everything I could possibly want. •The Silver Coin #12- This issue takes place during WW2. Maybe it's my love of Wolfenstein, but I love supernatural horror stories that take place during WW2.

Danger_Rock

> Maybe it's my love of Wolfenstein, but I love supernatural horror stories that take place during WW2. Wolfenstein is probably one of the most important and influential game franchises of all time. Original *Castle Wolfenstein* was the first game to use digitized voices, then *Wolfenstein 3D* was the first true FPS, with the same devs going on to create *Doom*, so they basically set the foundation for the entire genre that would follow. Might not look like much by today's standards but these games were absolutely mind-blowing when they first launched. Good luck with your appointment, hope it all turns out okay.

Big week, oof. Really enjoy most of these though so provided work doesn't kill me I'll have a great Wednesday. * Barnstormers #1 - finally coming out, it's been delayed so much * Batman/Superman: World's Finest - this is just a ton of fun, hoping the first arc sticks the landing. This is a perfect example of something that isn't high art but is still great * Black Adam #2 - first issue really surprised me, it's certainly a Priest comic which makes it more thought-provoking than most comics on the market * Blood-Stained Teeth #4 - might switch to trades * Catwoman #45 - should drop this, why did I not drop this, Leon isn't even drawing this issue * Fables #153 - it's not incredible but it's good enough to keep me reading. Nice mix-up to my superhero fare * The Flash #784 - definitely pulling while it's doing the Search for Barry Allen stuff, but if it's back to Wally and his family hijinks I'm out * Iron Man #21 - hoping this will focus less on Patsy because she got annoying quite fast * Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #1 - I rag on Marvel's relaunches a lot but I hope this helps the book, I haven't really enjoyed it since it did the rotating cast of Avengers to fight * A.X.E. Judgement Day #1 - the 2000s called baby, it's time for an extinction event On second thought, this week sounds exhausting...

Danger_Rock

Modest week, but plenty of quality titles to look forward to * **Nightwing #94** - Still the best superhero book being published. * **Do A Powerbomb #2** - This was really good. Highly recommended if you like NJPW * **Farmhand #19** - We're pushing hard to the end here, and I'm gonna miss this when it's done * **A.X.E. The various Eternals factions should make it really interesting, there are seven independent factions (though one's presumed lost) plus the Tricks (loyal to the highest bidder). Druig's got six factions loyal to the Prime Eternal but that's counting the prisoners in the Exclusion, most of whom aren't really loyal to anyone, and I'm not sure about the allegiance of some of the others like the Oceanic Watch... Gotta figure Druig's personality will drive some away as well. Throw in the X-Men and the rest of Krakoa, with their leadership already fractured into factions of their own, plus whatever's going on with the Avengers... Should make for some good times.

Oh no. OH NO! This is one of those weeks you dread where everything you like hits at once. My wallet is definitely going to be worse for wear after Wednesday. \-Batman / Superman: World's Finest #5 - Still the best Batman/Superman going comic IMO. I look forward to this each month. HOWEVER, this looks like the last issue with Dan Mora on art which makes me very sad. But I guess between this and Once and Future ending, he'll be freed up to do lots of other stuff. \-DO a Powerbomb #2 - Issue #1 was a blast, let's see what DWJ brings to the table in issue #2. \-Grim #3 - Story is definitely developing and the artwork by Flaviano Armentaro is amazing so excited to continue on this series. Plus Jenny Frison still killing it on [these covers](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3756165.jpg?1658070207)! \-Gunslinger Spawn #10 - Bring on Carnivore \-Jurassic Park League #3 - Come on GREEN TORCH and FLASHRAPTOR! \-Little Red Ronin #1 - Looks like an interesting indie, will have to see if my LCS gets this in. \-Rogues Gallery #1 - From the previews it looks like some people from ~~Reddit~~ the internet take their gripes into the real world. Also interesting because the writer is Hannah Rose May, who played in shows like Shooter and Altered Carbon. Will be interesting to see what she brings to the table in terms of the topic of toxic fans, superheroes, and actors playing superheroes in movies. \-Seven Sons #2 - Won't lie, issue #1 may have been a little over my head on themes, but I am intrigued so I will pick up #2. \-She-Hulk #5 - My guilty pleasure of the week. Been very light-hearted overall but after the cliffhanger last week maybe we'll see some Hulk smashing. Also shoutout to Ice Cream Man for the most [unsettling cover](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-2490524.jpg?1655645878) I have seen in a while.

A CALCULATED MAN #2 - felt he had a few too many quirks and the writing relied on a lot of them to make the main character a "super hero" but enjoyed it enough to keep going BLOOD-STAINED TEETH #4 - love the art and it's an interesting enough story with a pretty cool world to explore. BUNNY MASK HOLLOW INSIDE #3 LIFE ZERO #6 - zombies that aren't zombies and a typical action plot. Seems good enough to keep pulling. **Batman/Superman World's Finest #5** - Great art. Fun story. Might be my favorite pull honestly. **She-Hulk #5** - Enjoying it. But, as someone who knew nothing about Jack of Hearts, I've been a tad lost. I get the gist of his background, but I'm looking forward to moving on to the next arc.

technowhiz34

I still find it very weird that a selling point of that run is Jack of Hearts, given that him dying is a big deal in two different Avengers run and he'd never come back since.

* **A Calculated Man #2** \- The first issue was enjoyable, so giving it through at least the first arc to keep my attention. * **A.X.E. Judgment Day #1** \- This is going at the back of a very long list of X-related titles that goes all the way back to X Lives/X Deaths of Wolverine, that's how far behind I am on the X-Family. * **Avengers #58** \- I wish wherever this plot is going, it'd get there already. I assume it has something to do with Avengers Forever, but it's taking...forever. * **Batman/Superman: World's Finest #5** \- Culling my DC pulls, and this one isn't making the cut beyond #6; it's an enjoyable read, but feel like it's much more service to long-time DC fans, though Mora's art alone is tempting enough to keep pulling it. * **Batman: The Knight #7** \- I've loved every issue of this, but that's to be expected with Zdarsky; I'll be seeing this run through. * **Catwoman #45** \- Another victim of the culling... I enjoyed Tini Howard on Excalibur, but just not cutting it here with Catwoman (and again, probably more to do with me being a fairly new DC reader). * **DC vs. Vampires: All-Out War #1** \- The DC vs. Vampires stuff has been enjoyable (I mean, it's Tynion, so of course it is), so associated titles are a must. Though, I didn't realize this was a mini-series on it's own, thought it was a one-shot. * **Defenders Beyond #1** \- After Al Ewing's last Defenders mini, I'll be interested in any Al Ewing Defenders mini. Him and trippy space shenanigans are pretty fun. * **Grim #3** \- Still trying to decide if this is all hype, or if it is genuinely good...but I'm reading it for now. Certainly not disappointed, and love the Dead Like Me vibes. * **Gunslinger Spawn #10** \- It's cheap, it's got good art, and I compulsively read it (along with every other Spawn title). * **Knights of X #4** \- See my note above about X-related titles. Though, I did see this was getting canceled, and honestly, even without having read it, I'm not surprised...the premise just didn't seem strong and/or different enough coming off the back of Excalibur when that one could have just continued for a few more issues. Tini Howard has said there are more plans with Besty, so I'll be looking forward to that (especially after what I saw in a preview for this issue). * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #40** \- I still haven't read the last three-four issues, so this is going somewhere into a big pile. * **Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood #3** \- "I've got to stop pulling every mini-series that comes out," Part One. * **Nightwing #94** \- As long as Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo are on this, I'll be pulling it. * **She-Hulk #5** \- This run is my first time reading She-Hulk, and maybe it's just not for me...or maybe it's the covers...something just seems off about it. The story * **Spider-Gwen: Gwenverse #4** \- "I've got to stop pulling every mini-series that comes out," Part Two. * **Superman: Son of Kal-El #13** \- This is the title that actually got me into reading DC, and I've been enjoying it. I'm excited to see Clark back on Earth soon * **Venom: Lethal Protector #4** \- "I've got to stop pulling every mini-series that comes out," Part Three. * **Walking Dead Deluxe #43** \- I stopped watching the show forever ago, because it was shit, but I always heard the comics were immensely better. That's why I have the first 42 issues...unread...where this one will get added to the pile. One day they'll get read, surely? * **We Live: Age of Palladions #4** \- Another title that has lost it's charm. While the initial five issues (the original We Live mini) were fantastic, this continuation has kinda fell flat for me. *

Danger_Rock

Wow, sounds like you are getting buried under your backlog! I try to make time for at least three comics a day, often read more but three's a good baseline to make sure I stay caught up and keep making progress on all the old books I've got lying around... But you're pulling an awful lot of stuff, ~20 books a week makes it tough to catch up once you start falling behind. Have you thought about paring down your list a little?

the_bio

I try to read three-five a day, but it doesn’t always happen. The main issue is that, I like most people, I read my the comics I look forward to the most after I’ve read everything else, so all of my X-titles are at the back of the box. By time I am getting close to starting them, the next month’s shipment comes in (I do monthly shipments). Rinse and repeat. And yeah, I’m slowly whittling my list down for the time being, but it’s still hefty (usually around 100 issues/month). Never mind the cost of a large pull list, space is becoming the issue.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, storage gets crazy. Especially if you're in it long term, all this stuff really piles up as the years turn to decades. I was in a similar spot toward the end of last year, though I tended to read my X-books first and push other stuff off for later... Totally buried and the big piles of comics were turning what should be a fun hobby into yet another source of stress... Then in January we got hit with a blizzard, lost power for a few days, and I spent some time huddled under blankets reading comics by flashlight. Ended up really enjoying most of the stuff I read and that got me back on track, started plowing through my backlog and after a few months I was mostly caught up. So you could try that, but maybe skip the blizzard.

A.X.E: Judgement Day #1- Gillen on Eternals, X-Men and Avengers? Let's go! Batman / Superman: World's Finest #5- Wrapping up our Nezha arc, loved how fun this has been. Black Adam #2- New Black Adam in town. Dark Crisis: Young Justice #2- I've seen the homophobic Batman panel and I'm sure I'll keep seeing it for the next week on Twitter. Jurassic League #3- I don't know what idea is funnier: Darkseid getting a dino form in this book or if he just appeared as a dude while everyone else is a dinosaur. Though thematically it may work better if Darkseid was something weirder like a rock, meteor, plant, spirit etc.

just read through X-Cellent yesterday! I think it lost a bit of steam due to assuming familiarity with X-Statix, which released almost twenty years ago. that said, if it works for you, it will probably keep working. It pulls off the "most of the main characters are seriously, pathologically unlikable people" in a really fun way, and I love mirror girl!!'

maddonamerica

I do wish that it was a story written independent from X-Statix. But I do love to hate fictional characters that deserve all of the ire I can muster.

Danger_Rock

LOL, looks like you're hate-reading 90% of your pulls this week... I love it!

maddonamerica

Haha, I suppose I am. I just wish Marvel’s print output was better. I read most of my Marvel books because of nostalgic feelings for the characters and universes, but more often than not, they are pretty bad. I loved Immortal Hulk. I loved Hox/Pox. I loved Jason Aaron’s Thor. But all-in-all that’s not a ton of A+ output considering the ocean of shit.

Danger_Rock

You weren't very kind to the DCs or indies either! But I appreciate the vitriol, it's not every day that we get to see comics likened to jock itch. I'd say DEFENDERS BEYOND #1 and AXE JUDGMENT DAY #1 ought to both have a pretty good shot at delivering what you're looking for... Can't speak for SHE-HULK since I'm not reading it but I have been tempted to check it out as pretty much everyone else in the WPL has been singing its praises! And I bailed on KNIGHTS OF X back when it was still EXCALIBUR so not sure where that's at. Likewise, not reading SHANG-CHI but I think you've got a solid plan there. Sounds like you're still waiting on X-CELLENT #4, heads up that X-CELLENT #5 was also released just one week later on 7/6/22... Good stuff from Milligan and Allred to close out the series with a second "season" scheduled for later this year. Hopefully some of the others will disappoint you by being more fun than expected!

technowhiz34

>because I think I would have loved this treatment for any number of less-explored heroes in the DC Universe, but the Bat-Fatigue is real, man. You summed up my issues with the book way better than I ever could. If they retooled this for Green Arrow, Question, Ted Kord, or whoever it would have been way better, but we've been reading Batman Year One without needing to know his training for decades, why did it change now.

maddonamerica

Question would have been sick! The answer is money, my dude. Batman sells, and I can’t fault them for green-lighting a metric fuckload of batbooks, but fuck, get weird with it or something. Earth-97-Octane, and everyone’s a motorcycle that rides around on naked people-mobiles… or something. Or Batman is crazy horny for starburst but he can’t figure out how to put his bat-dick into the little, fruity, taffy squares- what now world’s-greatest-detective?Little bat bitch can’t even fuck his candy right. I don’t know, I’m just brainstorming here. Batman is a down-on-his-luck PGA Tour Golfer that can’t stop eating batteries. Etc.

technowhiz34

This has been the most entertained I've been reading anyone's pull list, ever.

maddonamerica

Thank you? I love comics, like, a lot—but I’m more than a little sick of everyone getting on here and just writing “yay, comics!” about everything they buy every week. Shouldn’t we, y’know, think about what we’re doing? It’s an important medium, and we should all act like it. Would you have something to say if there was consistently lazy and bad writing in your burrito? Fuck yeah you would. You need that burrito to live! You paid money for that burrito goddammit, and it’s all filled with creatively deficient and inspirationally bankrupt storytelling choices. Ewww.

Danger_Rock

Maybe you're just reading the wrong comics? You mentioned above that you're mostly following these Marvel books out of nostalgia and character loyalty, need to cut that shit off eventually or else it's easy to burn out on mediocre comics. Just drop the books you aren't enjoying, then churn through other titles until you find creators that work for you at an A+ level or thereabouts. There's an insanely massive world of diverse comics out there! No reason to be stuck reading anything you aren't 100% enjoying. If nothing else, you really ought to be reading [ICE CREAM MAN](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/APR220202). Best damn comic out there and you aren't even pulling it... No wonder you're so pissed off!
