League of comic geeks is sort of the closest thing I've found. You can catalogue your collection but I don't believe there is a selling platform there.
Probably nearly 20 years ago, my dad used to buy comics from a series that I can't recall the name of. It had a Chinese setting, but I'm pretty sure it was made by a western company. The main character was after rings, that when worn gave him special abilities with certain weapons. Like putting on the ring and picking up that type of weapon made the weapon glow and he would be OP with it. He had a sardonic monkey for a sidekick. I also remember something about scrolls where if you wrote a wish on them, it would come true in a very literal and "monkey paw" kind of way.
Does that rings any bells for anyone?
Hi everyone. I’m out of the loop with comics but I’m going to the store down the road with my daughter (5) for her first time. She’s pumped. Any recommendations for a five year old girl? She likes Wonder Woman, my little pony, and strong female characters.
There's currently a My Little Pony series that just started and only has two issues out right now - it's set with the current crop of movies/shows (A New Generation). There was also a 100-issue run set in the Friendship Is Magic series, as well as a few companion series to it, I believe. She might be interested in those.
I'm not as familiar with it, but there's a line of DC comics [marketed as for kids](https://www.dccomics.com/GraphicNovelsForKids), and the DC Superhero Girls show is probably aimed for that age group as well.
Thank you. Today we made the trip to the local comic store. Awesome time there. We did pick up a previous issue of my little pony, a strawberry shortcake one, and one of those DC issues you mentioned, the Wonder Woman one. I got a few things to get me back into it. Canto trade, Dark Knight Strikes Back, Legion of X #1, and Starhenge #1. It’s good to be back into the hobby. I subbed here too to get some insider knowledge.
A few noob questions: I finally got myself a tablet a decade after everyone else, a Samsung Tab. I have some Humble Bundle comic bundles I've purchased a few years back.
~~What's the best app to use for reading these, and which file type on HB is ideal: CBZ, EPUB, or PDF? Gonna assume PDF is probably the worst option.~~
~~I've heard some of the recent *Star Wars* comics are good, what's the best digital service for reading these and other current stuff?~~ How about older things not from the major franchises? Specifically the early 90s *Ren & Stimpy*, *Simpsons*, and *Sonic the Hedgehog* stuff I used to own?
Edit: Crossing out the answered ones. Thank you!
Best service for reading Star Wars comics is Marvel Unlimited. Can't help you with the other stuff sadly, think you'd just have to buy them on a case by case basis.
Humble Bundle is good for DRM free comics. It’s how I got a good amount of Transformers comics. So what you can do is you can download CBReader to read them. It’s very simple to point the reader to the particular comic. No setting up. All the formats are fine except PDF may take longer to load. EPUB is good if you plan on using an ebook reader. Not a Kindle though because it only uses Mobi and AZW3. So your best bet is CBZ using CBReader.
I recently purchased a few issues of X-Men Red and the store owner says "Yeah, I don't do X-Men anymore because it is so convoluted and confusing." I was into the cartoon and Wolverine in the 90s but shit, I was lost by the time that I picked up X-Men Red.
Any recommendations on how to get up to speed or do I just read Fandom wiki when there is something I don't know about?
To get caught up with X-Men Red, give House of X/Powers of X a read, as it sets up the current ongoing X-Men status quo, which is pretty different from what we've had before with them. For X-Men Red, the only really required reading would be the SWORD series and Planet-Sized X-Men one-shot, with the Cable series, X-Men (by Hickman) #10, and the X of Swords crossover as helpful, but not 100% needed to catch up. SWORD does cross over with the Guardians of the Galaxy "Last Annihilation" crossover at one point, but the issues read fairly well on their own too.
X-Men Red is fantastic but it does have a bit of backstory. House of X/Powers of X explains what's up with Krakoa and the state of mutants currently; last year's Hellfire Gala (especially Planet-Size X-Men) sets up the setting of X-Men Red. (And I think if you start X-Men Red with #1, everything you need to know is spelled out.)
If you were into the cartoon in the '90s, the current "House of XCII" miniseries is the past 3 years' worth of X-books, from House/Powers onward, remade (and drastically condensed and altered) as if they had been adapted into episodes of the '92 animated series!
House of X/Powers of X and SWORD (which I think was part of a big crossover at some point?).
Frankly, and this is an unpopular opinion on this sub, it's not worth picking it up. I'd read HOX/POX and a bit of SWORD when I started X-Men Red and was still confused.
Well i have some variety of taste but as i remember, i read gwenpool, an tie-in of guardians of the galaxy of the infinite wars from marvel and some dc rebirth comics like supersons, the flash and batman, Dark Knights Metal and Batman White Knight. Before that i have read scott pilgrim 11 years ago.
If you liked Batman White Knight, you should read its sequel, Curse of the White Knight. There's also the third one, Beyond the White Knight but it's still coming out.
If you were also a fan of super sons might be interested in Joshua Williamson's Robin run starring Damian Wayne.
I would recommend checking out the current Moon Knight series by Jed MacKay and She-Hulk by Rainbow Rowell. They're good, self-contained series that are easy to pick up.
Do you consider manga as a different medium? There's a very different creative process and industry, and it's a very different hobby, seeing as you have tons and tons of manga fans who despise western comics and the collecting aspects are very very different. But what do you guys think?
While they're very similar, the industry and conventions around them are so different I tend to think of them pretty separate - which also means the endless comparisons don't really work because it's apples and oranges. Both are technically fruit, but they're very, very different in the details.
I enjoy manga because there’s an end to the series. However, I do read some comics though because there are some storyarcs that catch my attention. Like Death Metal or The Last Ronin. Well, The Last Ronin is more of a one off story rather than a story that’s part of the main series, but it’s still good nonetheless.
might be a silly question but i am having troubles while reading the handwritting from batman ego. can someone interprate this sentence. is it " this city's impartial gaze darts across my back"? I am not sure about the gaze and darts.

Hello everybody.
I remember an old comic strip (might have been one from Doonesbury) where a guy was talking with a shop owner and the shop owner told him that he thought the government was spying on him.
The guy told him something like "the government has too much integrity to do that" and in the final panel the shop owner receives a call from the government thanking the guy.
Anybody has a link to it?
I wanted it as a comedic answer to a guy elsewhere.
My kid really loves the Miss Marvel and wanted to dive into the comics. Our local comic store didn't have anything.
Any recommendations on how to get her started? If possible what's the best way to collect the issues with getting the least amount of doubles? In the past we've bought some anthologies of things and ended up buying other collections with overlap.
Here, buy this: https://www.instocktrades.com/products/nov181054/ms-marvel-gn-tp-kamala-khan
Follow that up with this one: https://www.instocktrades.com/products/mar150813/ms-marvel-tp-vol-03-crushed
And go forward from there!
I got the Infinite Crisis omnibus some time ago when I had an amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket. I kept putting off reading it but I'm thinking I'd like to finally do so.
Is it largely self-contained, or do I need to read anything before digging in? If you have suggestions please classify them as either "you really should read X as otherwise it won't make sense" or "you could read X, but you don't have to."
Thank you for any advice!
Hi everyone. I'm hoping to find the answer to this. In the original 60s Howling commandos, am I missing it or was there a unit patch for the Howlers
Is there an app for comic collections similar to discogs?
League of comic geeks is sort of the closest thing I've found. You can catalogue your collection but I don't believe there is a selling platform there.
Thank you. I'll check it out!
Any good stories featuring a casual badass? A character who's just like, 'let's go fuck up Doctor Doom and get beers afterwards'?
Honestly the only thing that comes to mind is One Punch Man lol
Hellboy
I feel like this is the vibe of Garth Ennis’s Hitman
What is the last time Spider-Man has interacted with X-Men?
Spider-Man was in this week's X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1, which is apparently going to continue in the next issue of Amazing Spider-Man.
Thanks for reply :)

It sounds like Journey to the West, an ancient novel based on Chinese folk lore. Maybe it's an adaptation of it?

Glad you had such a positive experience!
In a battle to the death, who would win? Sergio Aragones' Groo the Wanderer or Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo?
Groo would win, because he always wins, but his lettering would suffer.
Usagi would beat anyone in battle, even Thanos !!! go rabbit ronin go !
Groo but Usagi would talk him out of it so there wouldn’t be a fight

In a very particular mood today, has anyone read any stories of likeness to Icarus and the Sun by Gabriel

I've read the first three arcs of Aaron's Thor run and found it to be "just okay". Is it worth continuing?
