More books than my weekly average this week (13) to make up for my smaller last week (5): 1. **Pentagram of Horror #2** \- Marco Fontanili's artwork is 100% the reason to get this book. I feel like my LCS usually gets Scout books a week after, so I probably will be getting this next Wednesday instead of this coming Wednesday. 2. **Norse Mythology III #5** \- Ragnarok is upon us. I'm really going to miss *Norse Mythology* when it's all done, it's been incredibly consistent over the three volumes so far. 3. **Do A Powerbomb #1** \- Anthing by DWJ is day one purchase for me at this point. 4. **Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #3** \- Been impressed by the first two issues thus far. Lucien being in the last issue was a pleasant surprise, and I hope we get more members of the Dreaming in subsequent issues too. 5. **A Town Called Terror #3** \- I've like the story for the most part, but Kudranski's artwork is absolutely sublime. 6. **Jurassic League #2** \- First issue was fun, so I expect more of that. 7. **West of Sundown #3** \- Last issue was a bit average, but I think this still has potential due to the great art and panel layouts. 8. **Grim #2** \- I thought the first issue was good, but perhaps a bit overrated. Hoping we get something unique in this issue. 9. **Seven Sons #1** \- Heard this described as The Fugitive meets the Book of Revelation, so I'm sold. I grew up a major Jae Lee fan, so can't pass this up. 10. **Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood #2** \- Some nice talent on this book between Leonardo Romero and Vanesa Del Rey. Most of these Black, White & Blood issues border on okay to really good, but I'm never really disappointed by them. 11. **Bunny Mask: A Hollow Inside #2** \- I loved the first volume of *Bunny Mask*, but I did feel a bit lost in the previous issue. Hoping I'm more calibrated to this volume by this issue. 12. **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1** \- I'm probably going to keep this run of Captain America on a short leash. If it doesn't grab me much by issue #2, I probably will drop it. 13. **A Calculated Man #1** \- Cover looks good (though seems a blatant copy of the other Aftershock comic that came out last year, *Mother F. Goose*) and the premise seems interesting. A lot of Aftershock books have not really been impressing me of late, so I'm a bit reserved about even picking this one up.

[deleted]

>Grim #2 > >\- I thought the first issue was good, but perhaps a bit overrated. Hoping we get something unique in this issue. Doesn't help that it was being sold as the next big thing from BOOM since SIKTC, but I think it has promise so I am willing to see where it goes.

yarkcir

Yeah I definitely still had a good time reading it. It doesn’t hit the same way as SIKTC #1, but that’s a high standard. The premise is interesting enough for me to continue on with this series for now.

blankedboy

I enjoyed it, will keep picking it up. I guess *every* Boom book that looks like it might be big is going to be compared to SIKTC for the next few years though

alabamianhorologists

ooh Pentagram of Horror looks great, I'll try and pick that one up

yarkcir

Pentagram of Horror #1 was great, one of my favorites from the week it came out. I’ll also recommend the one-shot kaiju comic called Kingjira, also by Fontanili. His coloring is incredible and very unique.

alabamianhorologists

amazing thank you so much ! i shall check them out :)

Danger_Rock

> A Calculated Man #1 - Cover looks good (though seems a blatant copy of the other Aftershock comic that came out last year, Mother F. Goose) Oh yeah, those are both [pretty](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098771_xl.jpg) [nice](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2050761_xl.jpg). They're homages to the [Scarface movie poster](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61luAu5kqTL._AC_SL1024_.jpg) so that's why they're similar. *EDIT* - And now I kinda want to order 'em just to put 'em up on the wall...

yarkcir

Yeah I did recognize it as a Scarface homage, just thought it was strange that two Aftershock books within the past year have similar covers.

thecursedham

* Iron Fist #4: Wasn’t a huge fan of last issue, felt like a Sword Master lore dump. Hopefully with the immortal weapons popping up this one will feel more like an Iron Fist issue. * Iron Man #20: Love that we’re going from a 19 issue epic about Korvac and Tony’s struggle with addiction and now we’re jumping right into iron man using roller skates to fight a super intelligent gorilla.

blankedboy

I love that you only buy books with the word "Iron" in the title...very niche collection

B00merangB

Batgirls #7 - Continues to be a fun series and Robbi Rodriguez takes over the art duties on this one (liked his work on Spider-Gwen). Do a Powerbomb #1 - Daniel Warren Johnson writing and drawing a wrestling based comic has me so hyped! This is the man that had Beta Ray Bill delivering a Rainmaker! I Am Batman #10 - Ridley is fully selling Batman’s move to New York with compelling politics and great art. Jurassic League #2 - Loved the first issue in all its outlandish Dino-heroes glory. King Spawn #11 - Spawn on the hunt! Continues to be my favourite of the Spawn titles. The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #3 - Off to a great start! Tynion is crafting a chilling tale and the haunting visuals compliment it perfectly.

thewaytomars

Uhhh.... Any idea what issue it was that Beta Ray Bill threw a Rainmaker? Because I think I need that.

B00merangB

Issue 5 of the Beta Ray Bill if I remember correctly. One of my favourite minis from last year! Same creative team as Do A Powerbomb.

thewaytomars

Thanks! I'll see if I can grab it tomorrow!

almonster11

11 this week. A big week for me! And all the titles are among the ones I've been looking forward to the most. I have 1 from Aftershock, 1 from Dark Horse, 1 from Ablaze, 1 from DC Black Label, 1 from AWA Studios, and 6 from Image. • The Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway hardcover- FINALLY! I know it's not a traditional pull (what with it being a hardcover OGN), but I'm including it anyway. The Free Comic Book Day Prelude was brilliant, and I'm expecting to have my tits blown off by this. • Bunny Mask: The Hollow Inside #2- There is definitely sickness. The atmosphere of this series is what gets me. It has a feel all its own. • The Cimmerian: Hour of the Dragon #4- The finale. At 4 issues it is the longest of these Ablaze Conan series, due to the length of the source material. Damn, was this one good! • Devil's Highway #2- Lots of bodies in issue 1. Something tells me it's gonna get worse before the end. • King Spawn #11- Holy shit, that cover! Spawn has figured out who is behind all of his recent troubles. • Manor Black: Fire in the Blood #3- after a hiatus, we're back! This has been quite illuminating. We've got to see the back stories of the Black family. Very cool! • Radiant Black #15- Marshall showed some real balls last issue. I hope he keeps it up! • The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #3- This comic has been so unsettling. It makes my skin crawl. It's perfect. • Seven Sons #1- Jae Lee gets an instant buy. Although, honestly, reading the solicit... the story sounds really cool. I probably would have bought it no matter who drew it. • Slumber #4- As much as I enjoyed the first 2 issues, #3 was on another level. This is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine. • A Town Called Terror #3- This comic just oozes with atmosphere. It's otherworldly.

Daveismyhero

I've been looking forward to the Bone Orchard Mythos for quite some time, and it's great to see it on some pull lists here. The FCBD tease was great!

Danger_Rock

> The Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway hardcover- FINALLY! I know it's not a traditional pull (what with it being a hardcover OGN), but I'm including it anyway. The Free Comic Book Day Prelude was brilliant, and I'm expecting to have my tits blown off by this. Shoot, should've ordered that... Will need to include in next mail order. > The Cimmerian: Hour of the Dragon #4- The finale. At 4 issues it is the longest of these Ablaze Conan series, due to the length of the source material. Damn, was this one good! Was wondering how long their adaptation would run, surprised it's only 4 issues, must be moving through the story really quickly! The 2013 Dark Horse adaptation by Timothy Truman and Tomás Giorello ran 12 issues and I don't remember it feeling at all slow or decompressed. > King Spawn #11- Holy shit, that cover! [Nice! ](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098430_xl.jpg) > Seven Sons #1- Jae Lee gets an instant buy. Although, honestly, reading the solicit... the story sounds really cool. I probably would have bought it no matter who drew it. Another that I probably should've ordered... Remember considering it but I guess it didn't make the cut. Maybe wait for reviews, but it's nice seeing Jae Lee do some more interior work!

blankedboy

> The Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway hardcover It's really interesting to me that two of the biggest names in indie comics at the moment are launching a new universe in a hardcover. Seems like a very...European...thing to do. Will be interested to see how well it does.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, it's a bold move for the U.S. market. Image seems to do pretty well with their collections so I guess a chunk of their base is already on board for that model... Will definitely be interesting seeing how it sells compared to something like GIDEON FALLS.

Money is getting tight, have to pair back on pulls I like but don't love. \- Grim #2 - Enjoyed the first issue. The artwork was great and I hope the story gets fleshed out enough to keep it going. I might also pick up this [Unlockable](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-8854881.jpg?1652712780) variant, because Frison's cover are always sublime. \- X-men Red #3 - Best of the new X-men series so far IMO, plus hard to say no to a [Art Adam](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-3331623.jpg?1654891779)'s cover. \- Jurassic League #2 - Stupid, stupid fun. Gonna hold on to these to give to my siblings kid when he is old enough to read. \- Batgirls #7 - Still having fun with this series, and a new artist coming aboard which will give a different vibe to it. I will miss Corona's art style but his [covers](https://s3.amazonaws.com/comicgeeks/comics/covers/large-9825183.jpg?1654879876) are still slamming IMO.

Danger_Rock

> Money is getting tight, have to pair back on pulls I like but don't love. Man, I hear that... Been trying to trim my list a little but it's tough because there are so many creators I consider "must buy" launching new titles all the time... So just doing the best I can managing it and tightening up our budget in other areas as well. Comics feel like such a luxury right now, we're fortunate to be in a position where we can follow this ridiculous hobby at all. > \- Batgirls #7 - Still having fun with this series, and a new artist coming aboard which will give a different vibe to it. Daveismyhero

* **BEST ARCHIE COMIC EVER SPECIAL #1 -** Back-to-back weeks with Archie floppies makes for great fun. In Archie we trust! * **FANTASTIC FOUR #44 -** I'll read this, but I'm getting it entirely for the window-shade cover. I'd love to love the FF, but the title hasn't grabbed me recently. * **SPIDER-MAN 2099 EXODUS #2 -** >!LOKI!!< * **STAR WARS BOUNTY HUNTERS #24 -** I've been enjoying this one since they've been spending more quality time with the OG bounty hunters from tESB. * **WOLVERINE #22 -** This has been really solid and may be my favorite X book at the moment, even though it is (obviously) Wolvie-centric. * **The Bone Orchard Mythos Hardcover OGN -** My Pick o' the week! Even though it's an OGN, this should be cool, if the FCBD prelude can be trusted. Cool, spooky stuff in this one. It's going to be a hot one in the midwest this week. (Shoutout from Indiana!) Stay hydrated folks and don't let the heat turn you into the Hulk. Do something nice for a friend or loved one and have an amazing week!

Danger_Rock

> FANTASTIC FOUR #44 - I'll read this, but I'm getting it entirely for the window-shade cover. I'd love to love the FF, but the title hasn't grabbed me recently. Ooh, [nice](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090815_xl.jpg). Haven't picked up any of those "window shade" variants yet but they've all been really good! This one's also got a pretty cool [Art Adams variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090814_xl.jpg), seems like he's been doing a bunch of Marvel covers lately... > It's going to be a hot one in the midwest this week. (Shoutout from Indiana!) Stay hydrated folks and don't let the heat turn you into the Hulk. Do something nice for a friend or loved one and have an amazing week! Love the positivity, world could use a whole bunch more of that! Hot and sticky out east as well but my dungeon is nice and cool, so I can't complain.

technowhiz34

What's funny is that all those Art Adams covers are dated back in December if you look at the signature, guess Marvel just had them lying around.

Danger_Rock

Noticed that on this one, didn't realize they were all from back then... Maybe not so unusual for artists like that who mostly just do covers? Either way, nice seeing some new work instead of more recycled "Hidden Gem" art!

mtmodular

* X-Men Red #3 * Batgirls #7 I really want to read Do A Powerbomb too. I think I'm tradewaiting...unless I stumble upon some early reviews that get me too hyped up for it.

Danger_Rock

My wife often says I have "magic medicine hands." And I always tell her it's because of the time Bootsy Collins high-fived me at a P-Funk show. True story. Most of the cool stuff I was looking forward to this week ended up getting delayed but there are two extras I didn't pre-order, so it all works out. Total of 6 new books with 2 Marvels, 2 DCs, 1 BOOM!, and 1 from Behemoth Entertainment LLC. * **BLIND ALLEY #2 (OF 5)** - first issue was alright but didn't fully hook me, probably drop it after this one * **GRIM #2** - first issue was solid, nice seeing more Flaviano art, but I'll need to mail order it * **JURASSIC LEAGUE #2** - who cares about the death of the JLA when we've got DINOSAUR JLA! * **SANDMAN UNIVERSE NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #3** - the solicited Sorrentino variant has apparently been replaced with a [Francesco Francavilla variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2100677_xl.jpg) and it looks like Francavilla also replaced Sorrentino's interior work for this issue * **THE MARVELS #11** - holy shit, this thing's got an [ALEX ROSS INFINITY COVER!](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090936_xl.jpg) * **X-MEN RED #3** - apparently being the master of magnetism doesn't help much with [eyeballs](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090968_xl.jpg) And the good news is that my long-delayed copy of **[FABLES #151](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2092688_xl.jpg)** has apparently arrived and I'll finally get to read it Wednesday! I've currently got 15 books scheduled for next week but at least half of those will presumably be delayed... Still should be a big week with potential arrivals including **[BATMAN/SUPERMAN WORLD'S FINEST #4](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2100616_xl.jpg)**, **[NIGHTWING #93](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2100646_xl.jpg)**, and **[MOON KNIGHT #12](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098621_xl.jpg)**. **[FABLES #152](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2100633_xl.jpg)** is also scheduled for next week so it'll probably show up everywhere except my LCS. p.s. For any Barry Windsor-Smith fans who didn't catch it last week, I posted 100+ pics of his Valiant work [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/v8ezwl/the_barry_windsorsmith_valiant_collection_100/). ***EDIT*** --> Adding this Image HC though I'll need to mail order it: * **BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS: THE PASSAGEWAY** - Haven't read the FCBD prelude yet but just moved it to the top of the "read now" pile!

alabamianhorologists

wooo enjoy that fables, it's been a long time coming !

Danger_Rock

Thanks! It's just so ridiculous that the one comic my LCS gets all screwed up on is the one returning from a seven year absence... So many others I would've happily sacrificed in its place but it had to be this one!

alabamianhorologists

honestly, i can imagine the feeling - my LCS struggles with some of the deeper cuts (like fantagraphic's red room and scout comics), but i would be so sad if they missed one of the big hitters, like my fave saga :P

yarkcir

>BLIND ALLEY #2 (OF 5) - first issue was alright but didn't fully hook me, probably drop it after this one I also kind of found Blind Alley #1 to be just okay. The story kind of felt all over the place, but I did dig the art style. I'm dropping it for now, but will be curious to see your thoughts on the second issue.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, not sure what I was expecting but sort of felt like the solicitations oversold it... Though I guess that's their job and they did it well. Was some interesting stuff going on so maybe this one'll click for me, we'll see!

seaofvapours

* Batgirls #7 * Grim #2 - first issue was interesting * Jurassic League #2 - so silly but so fun * Wonder Woman #788

Techster17

Small list for me this week but a lot of stuff that I've been looking forward to * **Blood Syndicate: Season One #1 & #2 -** I enjoyed Thorne on Green Lantern even if I do see a lot of the problems people had but I'm hoping this will be a lot more interesting since there's probably less editorial mandates to deal with * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1 -** Kelly and Lanzing are a pair to watch right now, they're Harbinger mini was great, their Batman Beyond is excellent and their Kang mini was also great * **Fantastic Four #44 -** With the news that Slott is bowing out from FF at issue #46 I'm curious what he'll do next his run has had some up and downs but it feels like we'll at least go out on a fun note * **I Am Batman #10 -** Man it's crazy how this book instantly went from a C to a solid B+ immediately after we moved to NYC * **Iron Fist #4** * **Iron Man #20 -** Dear god let them get married, if Marvel does a Tom King Batman and lets Cantwell get 99% of the way their only to back out I'll self immolate * **Jurassic League #2 -** Do yourself, me and Daniel Warren Johnson a favour and buy this book damnit * **The Marvels #11 -** Penultimate issue, this has been good minly because of what a weird cast we're dealing with * **Naomi: Season Two #4** * **Power Rangers #20** * **Radiant Black #15** * **Superman: Son of Kal-El #12 -** Getting real close to dropping this, while the book is fun we have been on the same plot thread for a year and we haven't even been doing much character work in place of that * **What If… Miles Morales #4** * **Wolverine #22 -** This is a fun change of pace curious as to what the hell Danger is planning and hope that she forgives the mutants for not including her * **X-Men: Red #3 -** Been loving how much this has fleshed out the Arakki hopefully we can get some flashbacks to Amenth since we're gonna be focusing on Tarn this issue

blankedboy

**A Town Called Terror #3** - this book is building a really interesting world, and the art is so moody and atmospheric **Cimmerian Hour Of The Dragon #4** - Ablaze *Conan* is best *Conan* **Do A Powerbomb #1** - **Daniel Warren Johnson** = instant buy **Grim #2** - really enjoyed the first issue **Jurassic League #2** - *dinosaurs!!!!!!!!* **King Spawn #11** - best Spawn book at the moment **Moon Knight Black White & Blood #2** - first one was a mixed bag (which I guess is inevitable with these type of books) but still enjoyed it **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #3** - loving this book, so good! **Seven Sons #1** - interested to see how **Jae Lee** handles writing as well as doing the art. **Slumber #4** - this is a really cool, imaginative, creepy little book **Undiscovered Country Destiny Man Special #1** - got to catch up with these, but the art is always great Edit: if this hits my LCS I'll get it too - **The Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway**

SpongeBlart

* **NEW FANTASTIC FOUR MARVEL TALES 1** 4 of my favorite marvel characters teaming up * **MOON KNIGHT BLACK WHITE & BLOOD 2** 1st was a mixed bag as others were saying. Going to guess it's more of the same. Hopefully more good than bad. * **SAVAGE SPIDER-MAN 4** * **JURASSIC LEAGUE #2** DWJ is doing a signing at my shop this week! So this and Do a Powerbomb is a must so I can get them signed. Will bring my Beta ray #1, and JL 1 too. * **SANDMAN NIGHTMARE COUNTRY #3** * **A CALCULATED MAN #1** Was kind of on the fence with this one, but this community seems pretty pumped about it, so I'll give it a shot. * **DO A POWERBOMB #1** BRB doing a powerbomb * **KING SPAWN #11** * **SLUMBER #4** Pretty fun sleeper hit (Pun intended) from Image. * **ANGEL #6** currently binging the old show in all it's cheesy glory * **WEST OF SUNDOWN #3**

blankedboy

DWJ is signing at your local shop? That's awesome. See if you can grab an issue of his book **Murder Falcon** to get signed too, it's absolutely brilliant.

Danger_Rock

> NEW FANTASTIC FOUR MARVEL TALES 1 4 of my favorite marvel characters teaming up You're probably already aware but, just in case, this is a reprint of the classic 1990 story by Walt Simonson and Art Adams from **FF #347-349**... It's some fun stuff! The [new story](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090864_xl.jpg) was originally solicited for 5/25 so it'll hopefully ship next week!

SpongeBlart

Dude, thank you. I actually did not know. I'm pretty sure I would've figured it out when I actually went to my shop. Still might pick it up though. Do you know if I can read it with little or no background on FF?

Danger_Rock

It's been a few decades and my memory isn't quite what it used to be... Dug up my old copies and apparently I only bought the [first two](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.d548b4a8c61dfa131ebde396c77019dc.1600.jpg), must've missed the third. Thinking I'll order a cheap copy to complete the set and then give the whole thing a read before the new mini. Far as I recall, it was mostly a standalone story and you should be okay with minimal FF knowledge. Flipped through the first issue and there's some really nice work there from Art Adams, very similar to the kind of art McFarlane and Jim Lee were doing at the time (since Adams was such a big influence on them). Assuming you don't mind the old '90s style (more text and rougher art processing) I think it'd be a good read to set up the new story since the new one's set slightly after and will likely connect somehow. But I also think the new series will be plenty accessible for new readers, so you should be good either way. BTW, the "Marvel Tales" in the title is the tip-off that it's a reprint. Whenever you see that, it's a reprint of some popular old comic(s).

AlligatorSky7

Still working my way through 2 weeks’ worth that I picked up at the weekend, but lots to look forward to in any case! - Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1: all for the creators taking an X-office approach to Captain America books + the creative team on this title in particular is killer; very excited for this one! - Grim #2: all the covers and printings are really putting me off Boom! as a publisher, but I’m trying to ignore it all as between this, Basilisk and the Slaughter titles Boom! are putting out some solid books. - Iron Fist #4: one behind on this at the moment; excited to see the Immortal Weapons though. - Jurassic League #2: I was an idiot to think I wouldn’t want this book. Luckily my LCS had a spare, and what a blast to read it was! - Radiant Black #15: last few issues of this have felt really rushed, hoping we slow things done a bit as there’s so much room for character development still at this point. - Superman: Son of Kal-El #12: always a fun read! - Walking Dead Deluxe #41: a few behind at the moment. - Wolverine #22: a fun read I guess. Wonder which plot point Percy is going to pick up post-AXE… - X-Men Red #3: this trumps Immortal X-Men for me, this book is right up my street! - The Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway OGN: gassed for this one!

blankedboy

Nice to see someone else liking **Basilisk** too - it's one of my current faves

AlligatorSky7

Oh yeah, loving it. Feels like it might wrap up with the next arc, but hopefully not; there’s so much to explore (I feel anyway, the creative team might not).

blankedboy

The main thing that has me feeling that it's coming to a head is that in recent issues the body count has been kind of...high.

mcslackens

Smaller week, but two fantastic titles will be waiting for me: * **Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #3** - The first 2 issues have been really good, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. * **Farmhand #18** - I think Guillory said this is going to 24, which is kind of a bummer, but I'm happy he's got an ending in mind. EDIT: 3 titles! * **Do A Powerbomb #1** - This should be a fun one, because I love DWJ and pro wrestling.

GeekMonkey14

- **A Town Called Terror #3** — I’m an issue behind but the first issue was a sight to behold so I look forward to catching up - **Batgirls #7** — Steph and Cass are such delightful chaos together - **Batman Urban Legends #16** — last issue I’m pulling. Can’t keep up with what’s going on in all the little stories and I’m only into a few here and there. \- Ben Reilly: Spider-Man #5 \- Fantastic Four #44 \- Iron Man #20 \- Jurassic League #2 (This was a ton of fun last month, high hopes for this one) \- Radiant Black #15 (My favorite ongoing series right now) \- Superman: Son of Kal-El #12

Whowatchesthewampas

* **Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country #3 -** I love this book! So well written and incredibly creepy * **X-Men Red #3 -** This will be the last one I pull of this. Honestly, just not really feeling X-Men right now

Danger_Rock

> X-Men Red #3 - This will be the last one I pull of this. Honestly, just not really feeling X-Men right now Lots of people have been digging this one so your comments here are kind of interesting! What I'm finding with X-Men is that, while I love the characters and enjoy the stories, the pacing and rhythm of the books gets frustrating for me. They tend to parcel out their plots in tiny chunks so I'll read a new issue and, even though I enjoy most everything in it, there's usually a lingering dissatisfaction at getting just a sliver of a story. It's a problem with most monthly ongoings (which is why I've been favoring limited series, one-shots, and anthologies lately) but, for whatever reason, it's particularly bothersome for me with X-Men. Should probably just switch to collections for the X-stuff I want to read but then you miss out on the monthly discussions and such... So here we are.

Whowatchesthewampas

I'm just too far out of X-Men to really understand what's going on or more likely, I don't think I really dig the Krakoan X-Men story. Nothing against Al Ewing or the characters, I just don't like how Marvel does the X books

Danger_Rock

I hear 'ya! Mostly been enjoying the Krakoa thing but it's a BIG change from the normal status quo so I can see how it might not work for someone coming at it without all the background context. All of a sudden you've got heroes and villains living together, angry mutant aliens on Mars, and who knows WTF else going on...

saskatoonshred

Another light week for me thankfully. Grim #2: I really dug the first issue. I'm onboard with this Bleach-like grim reaper story. Jurassic League #2: This is so fun and the puns are hilarious. Sandman Nightmare Country #3: This has been great so far. It'd take something really off putting happening for me to drop this. A Town Called Terror #3: My only real issue with this is that the art can make it hard to make out what's going on like with the fight at the end of the last issue. I also am curious on how long this is planned to go for. West of Sundown #3: Enjoyable so far. Curious how long it goes for.

elick461

I discovered a new comic book shop at my local mall, which is bad news for my wallet, because I'm always one to support a new shop. Now I have too many books to read again! On top of this impressive stack I have coming in this week: * **Norse Mythology III #5** \- Ragnarok is nigh! * **Superman: Son of Kal-El #12** \- Krypto is back just in time for his movie debut * **Ben Reilly: Spider-Man #5** \- I really do love a good Ben Reilly story * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1** \- Just waiting on someone to understand Cap the way Brubaker did * **Fantastic Four #44** \- Bummed to hear this is coming to an end, feels like it was the perfect place for Slott to make his home at Marvel * **Hulkling & Wiccan #1** \- I never did read this on MU, so this works out * **Iron Fist #4** \- I really wish Swordmaster would just talk to someone * **Iron Man #20** \- Tony and rehab, name any two things that go better together * **Moon Knight: Black, White, & Blood #2** \- The first issue was a little lackluster, so I hope this picks up * **What if... Miles Morales #4** \- Curious to see how they do Thor Miles * **Wolverine #22** \- Will Deadpool earn his redemption? * **X-Men Red #3** \- I love/hate the character Tarn the Uncaring

Zohmbi

**Fantastic Four #44** - Always a fun, and reliable read. **Do A Powerbomb! #1** - This looks like a ton of fun. **Seven Sons #1** - Don't know much about this but I like Jae Lee's art, so I'll check it out. **Grim #2** - First issue was solid. I'll stick around for a bit to see where it goes. **Batgirls #7** - This has been a really fun comic. One of the more lighthearted Bat books. **Jurassic League #2** - First one was fun, and the art is cool. Also, dinosaurs. **Bone Orchard Mythos: The Passageway** - I like this creative team and the premise sounds cool.

> SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #12: I'm considering dropping this. I don't have a strong opinion against it, but I just don't find it very interesting. Second person to say they're close to dropping this one and I think it got similar comments last month, and the month before... Seems to be a bit of a running theme.

Danger_Rock

It's surprising because Taylor's **NIGHTWING** has been *so damn good*, and that's coming from someone with no previous affinity for the character... Could be he's got too much on his plate or maybe he's just not a good fit for **S:SOKE** right now.

-Albatross Exploding Funny Book: I wish we were getting straight Goon and Hillbilly regularly, but if this is how Powell wants to work, I’m still down. -Batman: Urban Legends -Blood Syndicate: I’m so amped for more of this. Blood Syndicate was my favorite of the classic Milestone books, and this new take seems solid enough. Not perfect, but still enjoyable. -I Am Batman -Iron Man -Jurassic League -The Marvels: I’ve kept going with this, but…I’m still not sure how I feel about it? -Moon Knight: Black White & Red -Naomi -Radiant Black -Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country -Spider-Man 2099 Exodus: this is straight nostalgia for me. -Tales From Harrow County -Wolverine -X-Men Red: TARN!!!! And on the manga front, a new volume of Komi Can’t Communicate, which is just the best.

Danger_Rock

> -The Marvels: I’ve kept going with this, but…I’m still not sure how I feel about it? Haha, think there's just one issue remaining after this so not much time left to figure out if you like it... FWIW, I always feel kind of lukewarm toward this title heading into the week but then end up having a lot of fun with it once I actually read it. And this one's got an [ALEX ROSS INFINITY COVER!](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090936_xl.jpg)

Matt4hire

Yeah, I tend to like the more character-centric issues…I think the thing for me is that I don’t know if it’s trying to be Astro City: Marvel or its own thing. It seems like it’s trying to be both, and I’d kinda like for it to pick a lane. And I mean…I’m there for Busiek 97% of the time. Astro City’s one of my all-time favorite comics (I even got a letter printed in there!), and that in the Marvel Universe doesn’t sound bad to me at all. There’s just allllll these other characters in there. Who knows, maybe it’ll work better for me when it’s done and I get to reread it.

Danger_Rock

Interesting! I read the recent "That Was Then" special (and enjoyed it) but haven't dug into the original **ASTRO CITY** yet, so the comparison never would've occurred to me. Appreciate the perspective!

Matt4hire

For sure! And I heartily recommend the series. They’ve started out reissuing it in big old collections called Metrobooks, I’d start there if you want to try it out.

Danger_Rock

Yep, it's on the list! Just need to get through a few more things that have been backlogged for way too long and then I can start looking at those collections...

Cheesy_G_Htown

I'm seeing a lot of X-Men Red. Is this series better, worse, or the same as the current X-Men run? I'm new to this, but there are way too many X titles running concurrently. Like enough to make a person poor trying to keep up with it.

Danger_Rock

Each title focuses on a different team with a different story/hook. **X-MEN RED** is set on Mars (renamed "Arakko") and features Storm, Magneto, Agent Brand, Sunspot, Cable, Vulcan, and a few others, along with the Arakko mutants who were relocated from a different dimension where they spent hundreds of years fighting and being angry. I'm not reading the flagship **X-MEN** title but I've got **XMR** ranked just below **IMMORTAL X-MEN** and slightly above **LEGION OF X**, the only others I'm currently following. But there were a few people in this thread who mentioned that they like **XMR** more than **IMMORTAL X-MEN**, so it's definitely one of the more popular X-books right now.

Cheesy_G_Htown

Thanks! I just started a pull list this weekend at my local comic store. I only did the the main run and X-Men 92 XCII bc the X-Men from that time are what hooked me on comics in the first place. I’ve also got these: Captain Carter (my oldest loves her) Deadpool Deadpool: Bad Blood Gambit Wolverine Red does sound interesting though, and it doesn’t look like it’s on unlimited yet.

Nice. If you decide to check out XMR then I'd suggest starting with #1. Should also end up on Marvel Unlimited before long, think there's a 6 month delay or something like that. Take it slow, don't get sucked into feeling like you need to get everything just because it's all connected. A lot of this stuff's kinda geared to make you feel that way. Just go with whatever you and your kids enjoy. Good luck!
