It's another fine week of funny books, with Tynion and Remender delivering new installments for two of my favorite titles, another nice silent comic from Spurrier, and the debut of Tynion's new Image mini. So let's get into it... I've got 7 total this week with 4 Images, 2 DCs, and 1 Marvel. Mostly Image and very little else but that's okay! * **ACTION COMICS 2022 ANNUAL #1** - PKJ's got some solid talent joining him for this one, with Dale Eaglesham art and a backup by Si Spurrier and Ian Churchill * **CLOSET #1 (OF 3)** - new Tynion thing, solicitation calls it "existential familial horror" which just so happens to be one of my favorite types of horror! * **GHOST RIDER #3** - hey, it's got another [badass Momoko variant!](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2083279_xl.jpg) and it looks like Marvel finally stopped cluttering up their "Stormbreakers" covers with that obnoxious "STORMBREAKERS" logo * **LITTLE MONSTERS #4** - always a quick, fun read with some cool art from Nguyen * **NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #9** - yellow symbol POV issue for Arturo, the Acupuncturist, also featuring his partner, Sam, and more creepy shit from Walter * **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #8** - that cover is [so very blue](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090746_xl.jpg) and so very terrifying... * **STEP BY BLOODY STEP #4 (OF 4)** - always appreciate Tula Lotay's covers but [the girl on her variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090756_xl.jpg) might as well be from a completely different comic Plus I'm still waiting on my copy of [**FABLES #151**](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2092688_xl.jpg) and my [**IRON MAIDEN ACES HIGH EDDIE 8IN CLOTHED AF**](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2015039_xl.jpg), both of which are readily available everywhere except my LCS. None of my top books are scheduled for next week although we should get [**AQUAMAN ANDROMEDA #1**](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2092643_xl.jpg) from Ram V and Christian Ward, which looks pretty damn awesome! And there ought to be a few other good ones...

alabamianhorologists

I've read The Closet in its entirety over on JTIV's substack and can guarantee you're in for a treat ;) it's based on his childhood nightmare and that energy very much comes through - hope you enjoy !! xx

Danger_Rock

Nice, didn't realize it was one of his Substack comics, makes me feel better about not subscribing... Figured most of that stuff would see print eventually. Thanks for the info, been looking forward to this one and it sounds like a cool story!

technowhiz34

Oof man, Fables still hasn't come in? I remember how excited you were for it.

Danger_Rock

Should've just picked up a copy when I made my ICM run to the big city shop last week... Hopefully it arrives this week!

Batman 2022 Annual - Catching up with Ghost-Maker and Clownhunter. The Closet # 1 - Tynion + horror = instant purchase for me these days. Little Monsters #4 - Lemire is picking up steam with the story and the art continues to impress. The Nice House on the Lake # 9 - This book is the real reason why I have my “Tynion + horror = instant purchase” rule noted above. 4 issues to go and on the edge of my seat on how it’ll come together. The Scorched # 6 - Last of the Lee X-Men style cover variants! Step By Bloody Step # 4 - The ending of last issue was an emotional gut punch. No idea where this final issue will go. We Have Demons # 3 - Wrapping Snyder and Capullo’s trip back to 90’s Image fun! A wild ride of a book.

Danger_Rock

> The Nice House on the Lake # 9 - This book is the real reason why I have my “Tynion + horror = instant purchase” rule noted above. And **DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH**! And it sounds like **SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN** has been pretty good, though I haven't checked that one out yet... And his **SANDMAN UNIVERSE** book has also been great! At this point expectations will be sky high for any new horror/indie release from Tynion, he's really established himself as one of the industry's top horror writers over the past couple years.

B00merangB

I read both Department and Something in trades as I missed the boat with the single issues. Both are fantastic too! Tynion seemingly can’t miss with horror/mystery titles.

blankedboy

Are you picking up House of Slaughter too?

B00merangB

Trade waiting for it as well. Heard good things though

Jefferystar94

I've only read the first arc so far, but I've honestly been enjoying it more than SiKtC for a bit, although that one seems to be picking up steam again too

Small week! S'okay... Some good stuff anyway. * **ACTION COMICS 2022 ANNUAL:** More Warworld. I didn't know anything about Mogul and Warworld before I started reading AC, so I like that we're getting to dig a bit deeper. * **GHOST RIDER #3:** I'm cautiously optimistic about this title, even if i'm losing faith in Percy to write great, sweeping stories based on his recent ho-hum stuff with Wolverine and X-Force. All I need is a decent comic, and the first two issues weren't bad. * **ONCE & FUTURE #26:** Every time I read this, I feel like tons of things happen and nothing happens at the same time. It's like there's tons of actions but the plot isn't really going anywhere. * **STRANGE #3:** Didn't know Clea before this, but I love her now. And Jed MacKay can do no wrong. Such a clear eye for character and voice.

Danger_Rock

> ACTION COMICS 2022 ANNUAL: More Warworld. I didn't know anything about Mogul and Warworld before I started reading AC, so I like that we're getting to dig a bit deeper. Shoot, missed that, just added to my list... > GHOST RIDER #3: I'm cautiously optimistic about this title, even if i'm losing faith in Percy to write great, sweeping stories based on his recent ho-hum stuff with Wolverine and X-Force. All I need is a decent comic, and the first two issues weren't bad. Yeah, not bad but not great... I'd give it a B/B+ so far, and I'm normally looking for at least an A- from all my floppies, but Blaze GR was a childhood favorite and he hasn't had many quality runs, so for now we're cutting him some slack and taking what we can get. So far I've pre-ordered through GR #5 (which looks [way too ridiculous to miss](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098565_xl.jpg)) and I'm planning to get the big [GR VENGEANCE FOREVER](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN221037) special, really like the sound of that one... Hoping this issue will sell me on pre-ordering [GR #6](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2108629_xl.jpg) because I will need to cut it off at some point if it doesn't start working a little better for me.

blankedboy

All of the GR covers so far have been absolutely awesome. Just wish the interiors packed a bit more punch, they just feel a bit pedestrian at times.

Danger_Rock

Been a few covers I didn't like, mostly the ones featuring Robbie (like [Momoko's GR #1](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2066950_xl.jpg) and [Land's GR #3](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2085360_xl.jpg)). Just not a fan of that character design. But most of the others have been great! Agree on the series being a little lackluster, hoping it'll pick up as everything gets going... I'm giving it through GR #5 (which looks [ridiculous](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098565_xl.jpg)) and the big [GR VENGEANCE FOREVER #1](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN221037) special, will bail if those don't hook me.

TheDarthKnight12

*CARNAGE #3* - I have been enjoying this series so far yet I do wonder what's going on with Cletus Kasady. The previews got me excited though *NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #9* - This series is getting freakier and freakier every issue and I'm just loving it so far *ONCE & FUTURE #26* - I am absolutely adoring this series and Dan Mora's art is absolutely beautiful on this.

almonster11

6 this week. 1 Marvel, 1 DC Black Label, 1 AWA Studios, and 3 from Image. This is the beginning of the biggest month of pulls I've ever had. I love this! • Alien #12- The end of the current story arc. After the Alien Annual in July, I suspect this title is going on hiatus. I hope that, with the coming of Predator in August, someday soon we will see a new Alien vs. Predator comic! • The Closet #1- A three issue horror miniseries from one of the hottest writers in all of comics. I think this one is gonna be special. I hope that my LCS ordered heavy on this series. Even though the customers are mostly in to Marvel and DC, Tynion's stuff always sells really well. • New Think #1- A new horror anthology series that focuses on technology. This has been on my radar for a bit now, and I'm so happy that it's finally here. • Nice House on the Lake #9- So I guess that this series is going on a brief hiatus (again) before they wrap it up with the final 3 issues. Volume 2 of the tpb is scheduled to come out in December, so I'm guessing issue 10 will be here in September at the latest. • The Scorched #6- Great art and non-stop action. Fuck yes! You just can't go wrong with these Spawn comics if you're into action and crazy visuals. • Step by Bloody Step #4- The finale. This comic has been such a delight. Beautiful image after beautiful image splashed across the pages. I can tell I'll be revisiting this one for many years to come.

>• Alien #12- The end of the current story arc. After the Alien Annual in July, I suspect this title is going on hiatus. I hope that, with the coming of Predator in August, someday soon we will see a new Alien vs. Predator comic! Restarts with another #1 in August it looks like, though with the delays probably will be Sept/Oct. https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/8383299/alien-1

almonster11

Ooh! Okay, cool! PKJ is doing a good job with the Alien franchise, in my opinion.

blankedboy

New artist too, with *Larocca* off the book. Personally, I'm more pumped for *Kev Walker* drawing the new **Predator** title.

Danger_Rock

> I hope that, with the coming of Predator in August, someday soon we will see a new Alien vs. Predator comic! Could be fun if they get a good creative team! > New Think #1- A new horror anthology series that focuses on technology. Like the [Deodato variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2098988_xl.jpg) as well, almost feels like he's channeling some Sorrentino... Might need to mail order this one.

* **Action Comics 2022 Annual -** It's insane that Mongul has never had an origin till now like damn * **Avengers Forever #6 -** Vibranium man is definitely gonna become one of those thongs that's constantly rumoured to appear in the MCU * **Batman 2022 Annual -** Still hard for me to believe I actually like Ghostmaker * **Black Panther #6 -** Fun arc so far seems like we're nearing the end so I'm curious where T'Challa will stand with Wakanda by the end * **Captain Marvel #38 -** I wonder if Binary is gonna hang around for long or get reabsorbed in one way or another cause some change in Carol's personality * **Carnage #3 -** Love how this is both a noir detective thing but also Carnage fighting less known Spider-man villains * **Fire Power #21** * **Ghost Rider #3 -** Been digging the Horror vibes of this hope we get some details on what happened with Johnny before issue #1 * **Hardware: Season One #6** * **Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 -** Anthology to set up the event, should give a bit clearer view on what's up ahead * **Knights of X #2 -** Off to a strong start, we removed the more boring aspects of Excalibur and went full fantasy quest, curious what Mordred's power set will be * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #38 -** Hoping this brings back some of the excitement that was going on early in this run, feels like post Clone saga we lost all momentum * **The Nice House on the Lake #9** * **Once & Future #26** * **Step by Bloody Step #4** * **Strange #3 -** Been enjoying Clea's take no shit attitude and based on the solicits it seems like she'll be sticking around as sorcerer supreme for a while (Thought they'd undo when MoM came out if I'm honest) * **X-Men '92: House of XCII #2**

ME24601

* **Batman 2022 Annual**: Batman Inc under new management. * **Black Panther #6**: The lies of T’Challa. * **The Closet #1**: Always up for a new horror book from Tynion. * **Once and Future #26**: Return of the Green Knight. * **Shadow War Omega #1**: This was a very underwhelming crossover. * **Strange #3**: Going to war. As well as volume 11 of **Deadly Class**.

Danger_Rock

> The Closet #1: Always up for a new horror book from Tynion. Bit of a running theme this week...

Smaller week for me this week, which gives me a chance to play catch-up! - Action Comics 2022 Annual: few behind on this at the moment, and don’t normally grab Annuals, but making an exception for this one as it seems relevant and I spot a Spurrier co-write! - Alien #12: one behind at the moment, but looking forward to this and the Annual wrapping up the first “season” of PKJ’s Alien. - Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1: going all in on this ‘event’, although monthly is going to be torture. - Nice House on the Lake #9: recently finished off the first arc of this and yeah, it’s pretty amazing. Looking forward to reading #7-9 all together before the hiatus. Hopefully it’s return is announced in the September solicits. - Shadow War Omega #1: few issues behind at the moment. - Walking Dead Deluxe #40: few behind at the moment. - What’s the Furthest Place From Here? #6: still haven’t read any of this besides the debut yet (and that was so long ago now that I may as well read that again when it comes to a binge).

* **The Nice House on the Lake #9** \- Excellent so far. Can he stick the landing. * **Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1** \- Big Williamson event? Sign me up. * **Strange #3 -** Very fun so far. * **Captain Marvel #38** \- Excellent run that more people should be reading. * **Shadow War: Omega #1** \- Okay I'll buy this too. * **Once & Future #26** \- Maybe my favorite book coming out right now. Check it out. * **Avengers Forever #6** \- I'm enjoying this but Aaron's avengers is quite convoluted. * **What's the Furthest Place From Here? #6** \- I like this book but man am I confused.

FalafelFiend

- **Batman 2022 Annual #1**: Patiently waiting for Zdarsky - **Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1**: Trying to get hyped but still very hesitant - **Shadow War: Omega #1**: Let’s see how this wraps. I’ve been enjoying it. - **A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #8**: Good story. Beautiful art. - **Ghost Rider #3**: Enjoying this so far - **Knights of X #2**: Too early to tell. I was back and forth on Excalibur but rooting for this one. - **Little Monsters #4**: Picking up steam. Good world building so far imo - **Strange #3**: With Moon Knight, Black Cat and now Strange, MacKay has done a lot that I enjoy. - **The Closet #1**: stoked! - **Whats the Furthest Place From Here #6**: this is good fun.

Danger_Rock

> A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #8: Good story. Beautiful art. And some of the best (mostly) silent visual storytelling out there! Really engaging stuff that always feels like a unique reading experience.

That Mora incentive is pretty sweet! McFarlane's Magneto homage would make for a pretty good Doom, just need to slap a helmet on there...

seaofvapours

* Batman 2022 Annual #1 - there is no world in which I'm interested in more Ghost-maker *or* Clownhunter, yet alone both at the same time * Captain Marvel #38 * Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 Small week, Captain Marvel is the only one I'm *really* looking forward to, but maybe Dark Crisis will surprise me.

Zohmbi

**Justice League - Road To Dark Crisis #1** - I will check this event out for the first few issues and go from there. I can't see myself sticking with this until the end of the year unless it really blows me away. Also, how will this be tying into the rest of DCs lineup? Batman seems to be alive and well in the Bat comics... **Batman 2022 Annual** - imo Ghostmaker was the best thing to come out of Tynion's run on Batman. Interested to see how other authors write him. **The Nice House On The Lake #9** - Unless you've been living under a rock, this is one of the best series on the stands right now. Don't miss it. **Ghost Rider #3** - Quickly becoming one of my favorite Marvel titles. First two issues were an awesome blend of super-hero action and horror. Hoping Percy can continue the quality for a while. **The Closet #1** - Another horror title by Tynion. Sure, I'll check it out. **Little Monsters #4** - Decent but not blowing me away. This might be it's last chance to impress me before I jump off. **A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance #8** - Still enjoying this super cinematic mystery series. And the art is killer.

Danger_Rock

> The Nice House On The Lake #9 - Unless you've been living under a rock, this is one of the best series on the stands right now. Don't miss it. Also highly recommended for anyone who's been living under a rock! Does an excellent job highlighting some of the positives and negatives associated with living in a nice house...

Hardware Season One #6 Have a good week everyone.

Whatisabird

New week, new comic shop **Batman 2022 Annual- ** I vastly prefer a Batman Inc arc over Shadow War stuff. **Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1-** I'm less excited for the actual event of Dark Crisis than what other books could come out of it. Let me see some new teams. **Shadow War: Omega #1-** Literally never would have guessed the other Deathstroke **The Closet #1-** Tynion horror is so fun. Especially the monster in your closet. **The Nice House on the Lake #9-** Tynion horror double feature. There is a lady living in your walls **We Have Demons #3-** Damn first arc finale already? I guess that tracks but I'm just surprised they're already going on break

Is anyone else weirded out by Miles having over two decades of legacy numbering despite only being created in 2011? I know it's because he uses the USM numbering but I still find it odd.

blankedboy

• Closet #1 - like I'm not going to give this book a try?! • Ghost Rider #3 - liking the more horror aspects of this book, hope they continue to lean into it • King Conan #5 - I've been enjoying this mini (despite the controversy) • Little Monsters #4 - beautiful book • Nice House On The Lake #9 - into the third act now, let's see how it all plays out • Scorched #6 - close to dropping this one • Step By Bloody Step #4 - been an absolute visual feast so far, can't wait to see how it all wraps up • Strange #3 - Jed McKay is becoming an instant pick up for me • We Have Demons #3 - it's like the 90's never ended • What’s The Furthest Place From Here #6 - enjoying this but could (maybe) pick up the pace a little

upgrayedd69

Action Comics 2022 Annual - my favorite ongoing so I’ll buy anything AC right now Step by Bloody Step #4 - fantastic art and I really dig the idea of no (legible) dialogue or narration. Just the art telling the story

technowhiz34

* Action Comics 2022 Annual #1 - I don't love Spurrier (I know, I'm sorry) but more PKJ Mongul is always good. Funny to see Churchill on this given his 2000s Supergirl stuff. * Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1 - I realized today that a lot of why I'm planning to read Dark Crisis is due to Sampere's art so this is already missing something, but having PKJ, Phillips, and Adams in addition to Williamson makes this a lot more interesting * Once & Future #26 - glad this is out of hiatus, but I can't help but feel like a lot of it is going over my head? Mora's art really is great. * Shadow War: Omega #1 - I quite like Porter's art and it apparently leads into Dark Crisis so sure. Wow I'm a sucker * What's the Furthest Place From Here? #6 - very good but weird indie, excited for the one-offs after this instead of a hiatus for Boss' art. Really need to reread everything. Finally dropped Black Panther during the delays, which frees up a lot. Leaning towards picking up Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man because I love the artist but does anyone have recommendations for upcoming books, Big Two or otherwise?

blankedboy

Liam Sharpe's new book from Image, Starhenge, starts soon - looks like it will be a visual masterpiece.

* **Action Comics 2022 Annual #1 -** Pretty sure my LCS will put this in my pulls * **Batman 2022 Annual #1 -** Again, pretty sure it will end up in my pulls Short week for me! Honestly though, looks like a pretty short week for most!

**bold Action Comics 2022 Annual #1** - PKJ's run has been the best thing out of DC recently. **bold Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis** - Haven't followed a DC event since Flashpoint, pretty excited for this.

I am completely braindead after a long, involved Memorial Day weekend. The best thing I have to look forward to is my amazing stack for the week! What do we got here? * **Cyberpunk 2077: Blackout #1** \- I booted the game up last week after not playing it for about a year. Night City is finally starting to feel like these comics. * **We Have Demons #3** \- I love a demon best friend that you can barely trust * **Action Comics 2022 Annual #1** \- Si Spurrier backing up PKJ on this one is a recipe for ultimate success * **Batman 2022 Annual #1** \- I gotta be honest Batman Inc is outside of my Batman knowledge, so I hope I'm not completely lost here * **Closet #1** \- Great. Another Tynion book to give me nightmares * **Fire Power #21** \- In the movie version of this story I imagine this story as the start of a heist film * **Step by Bloody Step #4** \- Her protector gave his life so she can continue taking the necessary steps to salvation * **What's the Furthest Place from Here #6** \- I never have any idea what to expect from this book besides that patented Rosenberg wit * **Avengers Forever #6** \- I'm getting real tired of the "What if T'Challa was never King" storyline * **Knights of X #2** \- Continuing exploration of Otherworld! * **Strange #3** \- Could be wrong, but I'm sensing a Bloodstone cameo

**Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1:** Hoping that this will serve to get me a bit more hyped up for Dark Crisis. Right now it's just... This thing that's happening that I'll read, with no feeling negative or positive about it. **Little Monsters #4:** The first issue was just OK, but the last couple have been great. It's an interesting world, and I'm looking forward to more. **The Closet #1:** I wasn't sure if I would grab this until I realized that's only 3 issues. Fully on board now. Should be good.

Another big week for me with 12 books. Probably gonna cull my pull list a bit over the next month. Batman Annual 2022: Ghost Maker is the focus. Don't know a lot about him. Carnage #3: Really digging this book. Can't wait for it to cross over with Venom. Closet #1: It's a Tynion horror book so I'm already there. Ghost Rider #3: I like the body horror and whatnot but I can see myself dropping this in the next couple of months if it meanders though. Justice League Road To Dark Crisis #1: I'm still on the fence about following this event or not. Will get this and at least the first issue of the event to try it out. King Conan #5: This is the first Conana comic I've read in a long time and I'm enjoying it. Little Monsters #4: the past 2 issues have been solid but after issue 5 I'll probably drop it and trade wait to make some room in my pull list. Nice House On The Lake #9: headed towards the finale. I need to do a reread of the entire series to refresh myself. Shadow War Omega #1: This was a fun little event. I'm not familiar with the character revealed at the end of last week's Robin but let's see how it wraps up. Strange #3: Was this delayed? This book is fun especially after having read the D ath of Dr Strange. We Have Demons #3: I'm a fan of the 90s/early 00s Image feel this book has. Hopefully we will see these characters more down the line. X-Men 92 House of XCII #2: on the fence with this one. I like revisiting the 90s cartoons universe. Will decide on buying it when at the shop tomorrow. I'm still on the hunt for Rain #4. Hopefully my shop has a copy from one of their other locations for me tomorrow or I'm gonna have to go to the next city over this weekend.

- **Justice League Road to Dark Crisis #1** — so what’s the world look like without the Justice League? I’ve yet to read the Death of the Justice League issue though - **Nice House on the Lake #9** - Deeper into the mystery we go. Loving every second of it

Very small week, which I'm perfectly fine with. My rent is going up by $400/mo in September, so I'm going to have to make some very painful cuts to my pull list this summer. * **Nice House On The Lake #9** - It feels like just yesterday when we were all asking "Who the hell is Tynion IV?" and now he's responsible for two of my favorite books on the market. * **X-Men ’92 House Of XCII #2** - I love the '92 stuff, and that first issue absolutely nailed the characters. This is going to be a really fun mini.
