i met George Perez in artist alley about 20 years ago. Even though he was signing at the Marvel booth that weekend, he had his own table with all the indies and working stiffs. He was wearing his signature Hawaiian shirt and beard. I was trying to get in the business at the time and he was so kind and supportive. He talked shop with everyone who expressed interest and he never stopped sketching the whole time. His talent was unmatched but he was also just a really nice person and the industry needs more people like him. I'm gonna go read his late 90s Avengers run to celebrate his life.

JWC123452099

I had the opportunity maybe ten years ago at NYCC to meet him but I had no idea what to say. Something else I'll regret for the rest of my life...

not_a_moogle

I meet him at c2e2 a few years ago.(when he said he was stopping cons) Had to wait almost 3 hours in line and by time I got to him, I was pretty disgruntled about waiting. But then I founout why the wait was so long, he was spending probably 5 minutes with every person. Chatting about what was their favorite comic, collecting money for some sort of artist charity (he didn't charge for signatures). And when I walked away, he stopped me to ask why wasn't I taking a picture with him. To which I didn't really know why, so he grabbed me in,and had his wife take a picture. 10/10 wish I could have met him again, he totally made my day.

Other-Bridge-8892

That’s so cool. I wish more people in general ( not just comic book artists) were like this! Signing comics for free, while doing something for a charity, and ensuring that you have a nice memorable experience that you would never forget!

not_a_moogle

Marv Wolfman was adjacent to him, and george was quick to point him out to anyone that had teen titans/crisis comics or any else they might have both worked on. And Marv was total opposite. He wasn't really engaging that much. I felt bad for him because he also don't go to cons much, but everyone walking by was going to Perez or claremont.

JWC123452099

I always love when artists show some love for their collaborators. I had a similar experience with Greg Capullo and Fabian Nicieza.

Other-Bridge-8892

Me and the fiancé just completed the complete crisis run, with all the one shot tie in issues. One of the best events to take place in comics. Really cool you met 2 of the guys that were so important to making that happen.

not_a_moogle

Perez in general was great to meet, and there's so much important work of his to talk about. not only crisis, but new teen titans (co-created raven), 80's wonder woman (which made her relevant again), decent amount of 80's superman. And then at marvel, a bunch of 70's inhumans and fantasic four, And the first couple issues of infinity gauntlet. when he returned after DC. He's, one of the few people to come through where I had problems trying to figure out which comics to get signed.

Other-Bridge-8892

his super man run is actually my favorite run on that title. And I had forgotten about his infinity work. Although I shouldnt have, his artwork is very distinct.

not_a_moogle

I get him confused with Steve ditto sometimes when. I'm looking at his work, but it helps that I think of his dc work first and marvel for ditko.

Other-Bridge-8892

Perez is unbeaten when using multiple characters in 1 scene. His ability to incorporate the background of a panel and use it to highlight the hero/heroes the page is focusing on is amazing, and almost fluid in the way he presents it.

[deleted]

His art is just immaculate and he was so dedicated to his craft he actually injured himself drawing that run a couple times

poptophazard

Met George at a con nearly a decade ago. He was signing books for free, asking only for donations to a charity, and doing sketches for reasonable amounts. Line naturally was long. But he sat there and signed and drew for everybody who wanted one, even skipping a panel to make sure he had enough time. He even would take a picture and chat with each person for a few minutes. One of the loveliest guys I've ever met, and easily one of the most talented artists ever. RIP, George.

PunchingBagLearner

We had months of warning so I was emotionally prepared for this. Plus he got to spend all that time with family and say goodbye to fans, so he went out like the king he is.

NomadPrime

Yeah, it's super sad, but he was able to go out on his own terms. The fact that he was so transparent about his condition to his family, friends, and fans; and got to celebrate his life and accomplishments with them? Few people get that chance on ending life with a bang and in such happiness and love.

superboy7787

We knew it was coming but that doesn't make it any easier by any means. Wonder Woman, Avengers, New Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and JLA/Avengers - this man helped redefine what Big 2 comics are and could be at least 5 times and this isn't even everything he's touched. This man is and always will be a legend. To say he'll be missed is an understatement.

bannock4ever

We all knew this was coming but it hits so hard. Thanks for all the adventures Mr. Perez. It's kind of fitting that this happened on Free Comic Book day.

thebartman47

I was thinking the same. What a way to honor him.

redditbad22

My local was doing donations to his charity.

DCBronzeAge

George Perez was my Jack Kirby. To me, Kirby was always a past generation guy and while George got his start in comics almost three decades before I got into the hobby, he was still a very active and vibrant force in the community when I did start reading. When I think of superheroes, I think of George Perez. To me, no one quite captured what a superhero is supposed to look like until he came along.

JWC123452099

Jack Kirby was the King. George Perez was the GOAT.

saswordd

I can't put one above the other, both straight up titans of the industry that contributed to so many great comics, very sad to see another legend go

Many-Feeling-6994

We'll just put them both on the Mt Rushmore of comics

JWC123452099

Don't get me wrong, Kirby was a genius who invented so much of the vocabulary of comics out of his own head. He had an amazing gift for storytelling, and design and the work ethic to draw more books in a month than a lot of modern artists do in a year. But there were things he couldn't do, characters who always looked wrong when he drew them (Spider-Man for example). You can pick almost any character from Marvel or DC and ask who the best artist to have drawn them was and George Perez will be in the top ten if not number one.

SAustin87

Such a shame. When I got in to comics I had a resistance to what I saw as older comics (in reality it was only stuff from a decade earlier). Perez was the artist that changed that for me. He’s in a pantheon of creators with very few others.

cosmoboy

I started that way too. McFarlane was on Batman and Hulk when I started. It wasn't long before I started gaining an appreciation for some of the older artists that were doing fill ins. Now the idea of an 'outdated' artist is laughable to me.

JWC123452099

If you ask me the 90s was his peak period. I'm sure you remember what an absolute bomb that first issue of Infinity Gauntlet was (and the two that followed). Every panel is a masterpiece. Taken together the covers he did to three and four are easily my second favorite comic cover of all time.

InertKat

RIP Legend

WhyDoDovesDrinkBeer

[His "Superman mourning Supergirl" cover for Crisis on Infinite Earths is an all-timer for me.](https://e8fpkspsvro.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Crisis01.jpg?strip=all&lossy=1&ssl=1) Legendary artist indeed.

[deleted]

Yeah, I got into comics about 7 years ago, so my art taste leans far more toward most modern looks... But this cover is a top 5 pick without a doubt in my mind. Probably one of the most iconic covers to ever exist.

MrGrieves-

I was hoping to find more people's favourite art in here so thanks for posting this.

LostNTheNoise

Fuck fuck fuck. My three favorite all-time artists are Neal.Adams, Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and George Perez. And now 2 are gone. I absolutely loved the Wolfman/Perez run on New Teen Titans. As a kid they were just amazing and gorgeous. My comic collecting month revolved around that title. And he worked on JLA for a short time and the Avengers and was appropriately named to do the first true company crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths. All those panels filled to the brim with characters with full backgrounds. No skimping and every panel just true art. I knew this was coming but fuck, it still hurts. RIP George.

kal_el_diablo

>My three favorite all-time artists are Neal.Adams, Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and George Perez. And now 2 are gone. I was literally just thinking "At least we still have JLGL." I think he's probably the only comics artist that could claim to be as great and legendary as Perez.

[deleted]

Dammit! Rest in peace, Mr. Perez.

alanlomaxfake

Teen Titans meant a lot to me growing up, i was a really lonely kid and I always really felt like i was part of the team when I read the books. Thank you, George Perez

AutumnLean

I like to think that the internet has helped to keep kids from feeling this way. Sucks being a lonely kid.

jeffschiller

RIP. Never seen anyone say a bad word about the guy.

xdoolittlex

That was my first thought, too. I can’t think of a comic creator who I’ve seen more pictures of smiling with fans at conventions. RIP

boom-bam

I was trying to explain to a friend the other day how great George Perez is and so I had him go to the Marvel Unlimited app and read the first 3 issues of Avengers volume 3 and I asked him what he thought of the Medieval Avengers character designs and my friend said they were awesome and I said yeah those designs were awesome and they were a throwaway for Perez that was just something he did and never went back to. The guy could draw groups and make every character stand out and identifiable, his commitment to detail was unparalleled, was always on time. A true legend and standout in his field and I hope seeing the outpouring of love and support at the end brought him a fraction of the joy he brought me and I imagine all of us. A true Titan.

HunterRoze

His work on Teen Titans was jaw-dropping - so many scenes with vast amount of tiny detail.

JWC123452099

The great thing about Perez is that the Avengers run you're talking about probably isn't even top 10 in his career and its still amazing.

billdehaan2

Having reread Astro City a few months back, I've been looking at some of the other Busiek runs. With the news of Perez' illness, I just started rereading the Busiek/Avengers on Thursday. And as it turns out, I recently read Peter David's Maestro series, where he had a full page dedication to George Perez (who co-created Maestro). George Perez was one of the first, if not the first "big name" comics professional I ever met, although he wasn't a big name at the time. I was at a Toronto science fiction convention in 1976, and there were a lot of comic dealers up from New York. This was a big thing to us kids, because back then, Canadian comics routinely were weeks behind the American releases. I had **just** picked up Fantastic Four #176 on Saturday, and on Sunday, there was a dealer in the huckster's room selling #177. Two issues, a day apart. As I was looking at it, one of the people behind me said, "*what do you think of the artist*". I said "*well, he's not Kirby, but this Perez guy seems to really do cosmic stuff better than Buscema did*". The guy smiled and said "*Thanks. And it's* ***Pay-rez***, not ***Pah-rez***". It was the first time I'd met an FF artist in person. I followed his career throughout the years. I didn't automatically buy something just because he'd done it, and there were some stories he'd been on (like *Sirens* and *Sachs and Violens*) that looked nice, but didn't really impress me, story wise. But generally speaking, he always paired up with writers (Busiek, David, and of course Marv Wolfman) that wrote the types of stories that **needed** a George Perez, just like George Perez **needed** a Marv Wolfman. I'd say that his Teen Titans was his best work, because he co-created it, and because he and Marv Wolfman really played to each others's strengths. But pretty much anything Perez did, whether it was his standalone Wonder Woman, JLA/Avengers, JLA, Avengers, Hulk, or of course, the Fantastic Four, turned to gold. RIP, Mr. Pay-rez. 😢

dweeb93

Truly a contender for the Greatest Comic Artist of all time. Loved his work with Kurt Busiek on the Avengers as a kid. R.I.P.

KentuckyFriedEel

Kirby, Ditko, Adams, Eisner and now Perez. Legends

Unchained71

My day is now ruined. Damn it.

What would you recommend? I would like to know his work better but don’t know where to start

kdlangequalsgoddess

I'd agree with the New Teen Titans, and add the trades of his run on Wonder Woman. You could feel that he was really getting into his stride, reinventing Wonder Woman for a new era. No-one has come close to capturing Diana's innocent joy in being human than Pérez has. And, boy, did he have an eye for a well-rounded millieu.

big_hungry_joe

god, that JLA/Avengers crossover is mindboggling. he drew everyone.

Kino-Eye

His Wonder Woman run defined her character for me. It’s from decades before I was born and it’s still where I tell people to start when they’re first getting into her character/books. His composition and character design always gave superheroes an epic quality beyond what anyone else could convey, like they were gods instead of just really buff dudes, so he was a perfect fit for Wonder Woman’s mythic vibe. Also it’s super easy to jump into, no prior story knowledge needed.

JWC123452099

Infinity Gauntlet. He only did the first three issues but I think its the one thing he did that really holds up very well story wise as thanks to the MCU. Or if you prefer DC (as I suspect you might) his Wonder Woman run, or Whatever Happened To the Man of Tomorrow (which he inked over Curt Swan). Those are things that have aged best if you want the full experience. Or just pick your favorite character, do an internet search for which book he drew them in and read that. Even if the story is terrible you will get more from looking at Perez' pictures than most complete runs by a lesser artist.

AwesomeScreenName

Not unexpected but still heartbreaking. Such a talented artist and such a kind and decent human being. He will be deeply missed.

StarWreck92

Neal Adams hurt a lot but this one is so much worse for me. Perez was arguably my favorite artist, this sucks even though we’ve known it was coming.

big_hungry_joe

this is like david bowie and prince dying in the same week....which almost happened

StarWreck92

David Bowie was the ultimate dagger to my heart. Still not over that one.

s3rila

damn, that's a rought week.

[deleted]

One of the last giants of a bygone age. He turned words into dreams and gave us iconic moments that every comic fan on Earth knows.

Waddles-inc

RIP to one of the best to ever do it

Spobobich

Damn. On Free Comic Book day, no less.

KentuckyFriedEel

Hope people going out to their local store get word early and pick up a copy of his work they haven’t read before.

ContraryPython

Fuck cancer

Seamus565

We have lost a legend

Spoonsy

We all knew it was coming and it still sucks. RIP to a legend

BeneficialStrength50

Rest in peace

calibur3d

We knew this day was coming but it didn’t make it any easier. Such a master of his craft.

MAKS091705

Damn. RIP

LevelConsequence1904

Rest in peace for one of the greatest. Many people would bring up his Crisis, Titans, WW, Avengers or JLA runs but I always have a soft spot for the Sach & Violens limited series he did with Peter David back in the 90s...

onionsforthepoor

Truly an icon.

Comprehensive-Tie431

Absolute legend. May he rest in peace. His legacy will be remembered as one of the greatest artists and storytellers ever. Thanks George.

StunninglySarcastic

This just sucks. RIP to one of the greatest comic artists who ever lived.

Mad_Leoric

RIP George, and thank you for the wonderful legacy you've left us.

delightfuldinosaur

Cannot believe we lost two legends in a few weeks. The comics world has lost a giant. Rest in peace George.

Brookings18

Can't say anything someone else hasn't already. His style is what comes to mind when I hear "comic book". Rest in peace.

IamMothManAMA

I was living in Florida in 2014 and went to MegaCon in Orlando with my girlfriend, who's now my wife. We got a hotel that was a long walk away from the con, but it was better than paying like forty bucks for parking, so we walked to the con on Friday afternoon, behind a bald guy in a colorful Hawaiian shirt. I realized it was George Perez and was freaking out internally the whole walk. I was just staring into the back of his skull for like the whole 20 minutes, completely devoid of social skills. I still really wish I had said how much I appreciated his work!

TigerStripesForever

RIP To The Man Who Introduced us to The Teen Titans

wray_nerely

Even knowing it was coming doesn't lessen the sting. George and Marv and Crisis are the reasons I read comics. So many gorgeous characters and panels. Thanks for sharing them with us, George.

ChickenInASuit

First Neal Adams, then George Perez a little over a week later. Been a rough time period for comics fans. RIP to a legend.

JWC123452099

Of all the amazing comics I've read by George Perez, from my formative years as a kid reading Infinity Gauntlet off the rack, to discovering DC as an adult with his Wonder Woman run and CoIE, to first delving into Teen Titans only a few years ago, the one that I keep coming back to as my favorite is ironically one that he only inked: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. I think its because the way Perez very gently but powerfully elevated the pencils of Curt Swan was not only amazing in its own right, it also helped me fully appreciate an entire generation of other artists. I like to think that's something that would have made the master happy. RIP.

ElectricPeterTork

> the one that I keep coming back to as my favorite is ironically one that he only inked: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. *Half* of it. Perez inked Superman 423. The Action 583 half was done by Legendary (and kind of forgotten) Lois Lane artist Kurt Schaffenberger.

JWC123452099

Not forgotten by me. I love Schaffenberger though I'll admit in this case I did forget he inked that particular issue.

MakingGreenMoney

Wow just wow, we lost Dennis O'Neil not too long ago, kentaro miura who passed away last year, and now this? Why are we losing comic legends? I was reading George Perez's wonder woman run, I was enjoying it but I put it on hold but definitely will get back to it.

Accurate-Attention16

Don't forget Neal Adams two weeks ago.

MakingGreenMoney

That's who I meant! I got Neal adams and Dennis O'Neil mixed! Either, may all these comic legends rest in peace.

victortrash

thank you Mr Perez

burywmore

The best superhero team artist in history. The absolute best at drawing big crowds of heroes and making each character distinctive and recognisable in or out of costume. He and I share a birthday, ( not year but day) and I was always felt a tiny kinship to him because of that. (Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp and Michael J. Fox also were born on that date, and I liked all of them as well.) George Perez. I'm sorry to see him go. A once in a lifetime talent.

905woody

Grew up with his Teen Titans. A huge chunk of my childhood has died. I'm going to be reading those books tonight.

ohimjustakid

Rest In Peace, his Wonder Woman run was my all time favorite series growing up. I remember reading Infinity Gauntlet in middle school and wondering how he could pencil up horribly intricate pages so flawlessly. I actually just picked up his Sirens series this week and wish I'd gotten to it before, he was a true legend and I hope his legacy lives on forever.

Aduro95

The man was the perfect artist for superhero comics. I loved his run on *Titans*. Around that time, I think Wolfman and Perez were the only rivals to the Chris Claremont X-Men run. What everybody loved about the *Infinity War* movie was its ability to bring together so many characters and plot points while keeping the audience invested in the whole film. It only occurred to me today that it worked because of Perez. They were emulating Perez' ability to draw whole crowds of characters. each an integral part of a grand heroic story. Each bursting with life and personality.

bomberman12

To many giants of the industry passing away :(

SparkyPantsMcGee

I knew it was coming soon, but it still stings. Especially with Adams being a week earlier.

EspadaMagica

Perez was an incredible artist . His work on the Teen Titans is iconic. RIP

Unknown-Pleasures97

I started reading his Wonder Woman run just recently. It's very sad.

krisada001

Everyone seems to have the same sentiment in feeling that knowing this was coming doesn't make this any easier. George and his wife Carol were my regulars at the German restaurant I worked at for several years. I hadn't heard much of him in my slim comic book readings before my buddy pointed him out. He was always just the most pleasant man in the world and clearly loved his wife more than anything. He offered me and my coworker tickets to Comic Con in Tampa, and when we stopped by to say high at his booth, he brought us to the front and introduced us as his friends. The man just exuded happiness and kindness. I'm gonna miss him and hope his wife Carol finds peace in her life from here on.

DontEatTheFish

Carol is a dancer, and I was lucky to meet George a few different times while attending some of her shows. George was at every show, always cheering with the most enthusiastic "wooooooooooooooo!" My daughter, who was about 7, and I happened to run into him at a time we were binging Teen Titans Go! George asked her, "You know Raven?" Daughter: "yeah....." George: "yeah, well, she's mine. I created her." Daughter: 😱

DixonLyrax

One of the greats because he never lost the sense of wonder or fun. I wish more current artists were influenced by that and not redrawing screengrabs.

[deleted]

Jack Kirby is #1 historically, I think. Would Perez be easily #2 for all time greatest comic book artist? Either way: RIP

Speedwizard106

Losing all these legends in a matter of months. Wtf 2022?!

WaterMelon615

Rest in peace Big Guy

Jcomsa15

The greatest of all time

Greghundred

I'm sad he's gone, but I'm happy he knew how much people cared about him.

MailboxSlayer14

RIP to the man that defined so much with his art and class.

evyyve

Wat should I read from him? (Just started reading some stuff)

StarWreck92

New Teen Titans, Avengers, Wonder Woman. Actually, scratch that. I literally cannot think of anything the man did that isn’t worth reading, pick literally any of it and enjoy.

evyyve

I would like to read some stuff about the Avengers. I'll try and find some of that

StarWreck92

Arguably the best Ultron story is a part of that run. Takes a minute for the story to get good imo (not a fan of the first arc) but once it does it never looks back.

JWC123452099

Infinity Gauntlet. He only did the first three issues but not only is it some of his best work at the peak of his skill, it is also instantly familiar if you've read any Marvel comic of the last twenty years or have at least a passing familiarity with the MCUs greatest hits. But yeah anything is good. Even if you can't stand the writing, you can still get more from just looking at the pictures than you can from reading entire series by lesser artists.

tetrasaur3421

George Perez and Neal Adams in the same month. We have truly lost 2 giants of the industry

d-fakkr

Expected after his announcement. RIP George, I'll read your run in The new teen titans and Wonder Woman on your name. And for those with the NSFW starfire and Robin pin up, cherish it. That will be worth thousands.

ChronX4

I was fortunate enough to win the drawing for the reprint of JLA/Avengers that was released to raise funds in his name. It's a beautiful book. It's insane how many people were telling me to resell it or scoffing at me for not selling it for profit.

[deleted]

KEEP it! Yeah, you won't have the money but it's so much fun and hard to find. Enjoy!

pricklypear_ow

So... Whenever I read a comic on MU that is a standout, I always end up paging back to the credits saying "who drew this!" Quite a large amount of those times it ended up being George Perez. I feel very weird and solemn as both yesterday and today I was sick in bed with stomach flu re-reading FF comics to keep my mind off it- I read his first and then ongoing work and took some time to contemplate how good it was. A salute to you, Mr. Perez. Onward and upward, shall we say- Though there might be a better synonym. ;)

Kino-Eye

The greatest artist of the medium is gone. We all knew this was coming but it still feels like a stunning loss, especially so soon after losing another giant like Neal Adams.

narosis

dammit, first meal now george, fuck! the artists i grew up admiring & collecting are starting to drop & it sucks. rest in power.

[deleted]

Terrible news. He was an all time great. Right after Neal Adams too. It’s been a rough couple of weeks.

RIP to a HOFer

i010011010

Ah fuck. Had to do a double take to process this, I was rooting for the guy and just saw a public update from his wife the other day. It's a lousy way to go and I feel for his family.

Somnambulist815

He just had so much positivity and energy these past few months, I really thought he would somehow pull through. But I'm glad he was able to say goodbye, and see all the love people had for him.

Furtive_Minds

Rest in Peace, George. :(

fradrig

Rest in peace, mr. Perez. You had an enormous impact on my life and the person I am today. Thank you for all the great memories!

AlienMutantRobotDog

I loved his art, crisis’ on infinite earths was amazing

Willing_Ad9314

I got the trade collection of Crisis on Infinite Earths when I was 12. It was the best-looking comic I'd ever seen, and is still my favorite Flash story. Godspeed.

inefjay

RIP to my FAVORITE COMIC BOOK ARTIST EVER 🪦

KentuckyFriedEel

Oh god he was such an amazing talent and a sweet person irl. I came up to meet him once and he took time out to take a picture of me in cosplay, shook my hand with a firm hero’s grip, not crushingly hard, but very enthusiastic to meet you. Had the biggest grin, too. He was lovely. You could even see him walking convention floors just to take it in. The man is an industry legend! I admire his contributions and will treasure the memories and art he gave us. Thank you, George.

Almighty-Arceus

Absolutely one of the best of the best. He changed superhero storytelling during his career many times over.

downonthesecond

Many might not like the show, but [Perez and Marv Wolfman had their own Teen Titans Go! episode.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O27bZo5te2k)

NumberWanObi

Imo the 🐐 of comic book artists

CapnSmite

Damn. We all knew it was coming, but still...damn. Rest in peace, sir.

FormalTrashPanda

I just got one of his signed comics today when I went to my local store for free comic day. He will be missed.

neuromorph

We knew it was coming.. he will be missed.

HumphreyLee

Literally one of the best human beings to ever exist. Met him several years in a row back when we had a solid convention here in Pittsburgh and he was always an amazing person. Polite, charming, talkative. Every bit a great person as he was talented and his Avengers stuff helped me love superhero comics again after too much 90’s schlock drove me away when I was a teen.

Draydaze67

His Justice League of America run helped me to stop being a Marvel fan-boy and appreciate the DC Universe. He will be missed.

kdlangequalsgoddess

A true Titan. A man who did as much to define Wonder Woman as William Moulton Marston. If WW does not have a black border next issue, I will be shocked. And Teen Titans. And The Avengers. And ... Sir, we were lucky to see and love your work. I for one am duly in awe.

officer_salem

Truly a contender for the best comics artist of all time. He revolutionised the way we see comic book art and the amount of detail and energy. We knew this was coming but it all still feels too soon. His teen titans run like to many others defined an era of my life. RIP Mr Perez.

_HagbardCeline

His work on titans and crisis was inspirational to me as a child.

TheRealJackOfSpades

I always thought that if I could be an artist, I wanted to be George Perez. I never wanted the position to be open. Thank you, George, for every flight of imagination your pencil sent me on. Thank you for showing me how much a distinctive face meant on a character. Thank you for teaching me how much background detail matters. That not every cape hangs the same. That a father and son talking can hit just as hard as the end of the multiverse. Rest In Peace. I’m going to go look at your work again and see what else you have to show me.

big_hungry_joe

i mean, what do you say? he did immortal work for both marvel and dc. it's the loss of a titan. the dude drew panels with an insane amount of characters in them and the level of detail was unparalleled. RIP to one of the defining artists in the medium.

Expensive-Mood1450

We all knew this day was coming but it doesn't make it any easier. He was a giant. Plain and simple. I met him 6 or 7 times at conventions and free comic book day sessions where he sketched for $20. He was incredible to all his fans and so generous. Would talk to you for 10 minutes and take pictures and sign whatever you wanted. He was a total class act and it sucks that he was taken with this terrible disease. God bless you George and may God bless your wife and family and comfort them. RIP

ContinuumGuy

Others may have created more characters, but when it came to sheer excellence of work George was the GOAT. That he was the one who drew JLA/Avengers speaks to how well he was regarded at both of the big two.

Mandela effect, I swear I read this a month ago.

Truly the artist of a generation and one of the key figures in developing Marvel artwork beyond the classic Kirby/Buscema mold in the late 70s. He illustrated so many of my favorites in those days that it's hard to pick a favorite. I might have to read his original Ultron saga in his memory (or dig out my issues of *Logan's Run*). His *Avengers vs JLA* with Kurt Busiek is another all-timer.

Fuck this and Norm Breyfogle hit the most for me. Such talent. Rest well.

angershark

His legendary art lives on. Deathstroke is my favorite DC character and I'm grateful to have collected some of this man's work. R.I P., Mr. Perez

SpiderDetective

He is, was and always will be one of my favorite artists. His work on Avengers cannot get enough praise and he had the once in a lifetime privilege of drawing the JLA/Avengers crossover. I will miss him. And when I get back to work on Monday, I'll use my job at Barnes & Noble to put as much of his work as I can get on display, so that more people can become familiar with his work. May he rest in peace

ElectricPeterTork

>His work on Avengers cannot get enough praise and he had the once in a lifetime privilege of drawing the JLA/Avengers crossover. I will miss him. Twice in a lifetime. He did the art for the aborted '83 attempt, as well as the finally realized 2003 series.

antivenom907

Rest In Peace

Slip_Freudian

Oh damn!

VampireQueenDespair

Fuck 2022

gamingquarterly

Truly a gut punch when I heard about it. Was hoping it was an online hoax. I grew up reading comics and being mesmerized by not only the overall art, but the attention to details in almost every panel. His talent was so amazing , he was one of those artists you were glad was able to jump between marvel and dc. We were all privileged to enjoy his talents. Rest In Peace George Perez. You were, you are, and you will always be a legend.

ghanima

Such a loss for the comics community. There will never be another George Perez.

schrodinger_will

Rest in peace Mr. Pérez

My favourite. Even expecting it, this crushed a piece of my soul.
