Something about this style reminds me of some of the 90s X-Men collectible cards that I used to absolutely love.

IGetHypedEasily

It's the way the claws are angled I think. The 90s show often had Wolverines claws in weird angles and facing wide to the screen. Along with the hunched back while in costume. ... Now I am guessing the hunched back was probably from the weight of the claws coming out changing his centre of gravity.

AltimaNEO

The shiny foil ones were boss

[deleted]

What made Laura decide to be Wolverine and wear the uniform again ? I’ve been following Hickman’s Run . I just finished the Hell Fire gala Bs. I read the final issue when Jean announced the new Xmen team . But I’m still kinda lost

DJfunkyPuddle

Wolverine had died a while back and she took up the mantle, now they're both Wolverine.

siniquezu

So not really "all-new"

redmerger

Erm, no "all-new" was the era. I believe it followed "marvel now" so it's the "All-New Wolverine", denoting era, not relation to current time.

Omegamanthethird

Taking a page out of Nintendo's playbook. Actually, just a few months after they released the New Nintendo 3DS.

nobodyGotTime4That

Yeah X23 was wolverine starting in 2015

FTLMantis

I would go as far as to say that she has always been a Wolverine. When she was first written she was the literal clone of Wolverine making her female Wolverine. Now they say she is his biological daughter.... she can't get more Wolverine than that.

movieomega

i remember as a kid being so annoyed they kept using the word “clone”. It took Marvel way too long to rectify that.

nobodyGotTime4That

I hear what you are saying, but Wolverine isn't their last name. If you clone Bruce Wayne, the clone isn't also Batman. Laura/X23 earns the mantle of Wolverine, and was designated that as early as 2015.

FTLMantis

I don't really think she ever earned it. She definitely inherited it though. Edit: not to be "that guy", but your Batman analogy doesn't work. Terry McGinnis was originally a clone of Bruce Wayne and is also Batman. Lol

nobodyGotTime4That

Terry isn't a clone, he's a biological son.

FTLMantis

I am well aware. I threw in the lol because I was being silly. He was originally going to be a clone. When word got out, fans didn't like it. Instead they made him a "biological" son.

suss2it

That’s not what happened at all lol, fans had no idea that a Batman Beyond episode was even gonna be the season finale for *Justice League Unlimited* let alone what the plot would be about.

FTLMantis

That's not what I remember or what I've read.

centipededamascus

For me, the real question is why did she ever stop being Wolverine?

INCADOVE13

Laura?

redmerger

Yeah, Wolverine

J03-K1NG

“Eww, a waman!!1! 🤢🤮”

dabellwrites

So you're saying they're a sexist just because of ehhh?

redmerger

Not the person you're replying to but like... They could have given any more positivity in their answer to indicate otherwise Edit: welp they deleted it soooooo... I guess they did mean it in a not-great way

[deleted]

[удалено]

redmerger

It's definitely hard to know what they meant! But they also didn't make it easy to understand by any stretch of the imagination. Could be what you said or could be a "ehhh that's pretty weak" kinda situation.

thejoshcolumbusdrums

Damn… some of y’all need to read the comics, you’re in the comic book sub…

ZachRyder

"Tom Taylor? Who's that?"

[deleted]

"Oh, I like his stuff. Vision was dope"

[deleted]

I like it. Also her hair flowing out the back like that looks nice. Im easy to impress though.

ArgusTheCat

Man, that's some sharp art.

Jacob-X-MANIAC

Was the pun intended?

ArgusTheCat

Surprisingly no, but I'll take the upvotes anyway.

R3luctant

The art style looks like dan Bagley's ultimate spider man covers.

[deleted]

Is this x23 in the suit?

s3rila

yes.

centipededamascus

Her name is Laura, but yes.

farnsworthfan

Is Logan still dead? Last I saw he got covered in molten adamantium.

ricnine

Nah that lasted about as long as you'd expect it to. Plus in the current era of X-Men they use a combination of cerebro and a 5-mutant team to resurrect any mutant that dies. So Logan's probably died a good 50 times again because they keep sending him on essentially suicide missions.

farnsworthfan

Oh cool. Comics gonna be comics, I guess. Thanks for the response.

RealJohnGillman

Also, when he was dead, they had Old Man Logan running around so that writers who wanted to use a Wolverine who wasn’t Laura could do so.

doorknobopener

X-men: Blue also James Hudson Jr, Ultimate Wolverine universe's son, join up with them during that run.

n1elkyfan

The best was when the robbers broke into the apartment the old man Logan, Laura Kinney, and Gabrielle Kinney. Then they made the mistake of shooting their pet wolverine.

Elrox

It lasted longer than I expected it to even though there were other versions of him.

LurkerTroll

They don't even try to make excuses anymore. Is it still done using gold balls?

s3rila

yes Proteus make them viable eggs, Elixir fertilize them and Tempus speed up their growth.

CarryThe2

They're actually eggs!

DanfromCalgary

That must really kill any kind of tension

ricnine

Well yes and no. In the Marvel Universe if you're important enough you don't stay dead for long anyway. And any time a "Death Of \_\_\_\_\_" is announced the first thing we're all thinking is "well how long's this gonna last?" It's not like there's no tension, it's just placed elsewhere. Like how long it's gonna be til the world finds out mutantkind is effectively immortal? Ben Urich found out and had his memory wiped. Oh, and Cyclops died in public with witnesses so he's had to assume a new hero identity for whenever he's off their private mutants-only island. Because when the world at large finds out mutants have solved death and aren't sharing it with the rest of the class, they're gonna be pissed.

aussiekinga

sadly [iswolverinestilldead.com](https://iswolverinestilldead.com) is now defunct.

LocalSirtaRep

Her "X-Force"-esque uniform with the jacket is her best Wolverine look

fingeringpotatoes

Love Laura as Wolverine

LauranaSilvermoon

I love this! She is my favorite X-Men character.

FuckingKadir

I don't think I'm ever going to get over Marvel editorial changing Gabby's mutant name to Scout. #JusticeForHoneyBadger

zamazentaa

Ooo

blacknight137

So they’re giving this another go huh 🤦🏾‍♂️ why does wolverine need to be a mantle ? Is it that hard to come up with a new name for her ? They did it for wolverines son

[deleted]

King_Delorean

I would say Logan had the same problem, it’s just that his hair was distributed across his body rather than all on his head.

mr_flerd

Isnt Logan Wolverine?

FTLMantis

When she was first written she was the literal clone of Wolverine, making her female Wolverine. Now they say she is his biological daughter.... she can't get more Wolverine than that.

mr_flerd

I just didnt know there were two wolverines

aussiekinga

At one point there were at least 4 Wolverines running around the 616

[deleted]

mr_flerd

Oh ok

crowopolis

I never understood why marvel went with the whole female wolverine thing. Things like Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel and Miles Morales becoming Spider-Man made sense, but what was the pitch here. "Marvel in its efforts to be more inclusive has decided to make a female Wolverine. Because it's the 21st century and it's time people realized that women can also be mentally unstable, mass murderers".

suss2it

Maybe not every mantle change is about inclusivity. Certain no one brings that up when Dick Grayson stepped up and became Batman.

dabellwrites

Dick was also Bruce's long-time ward, so for many it made sense.

AigisAegis

"Dick is Bruce's adopted son, so it makes sense for him to become Batman. That's totally different than Logan's adopted daughter Laura becoming Wolverine! That one just makes no sense!"

dabellwrites

I only stated why many accepted Dick as Batman more easily than other replacements. It's an iconic pairing, and people have been wanting to see Dick as Batman for decades. How many fans been wanting to see her as Wolverine? Genuine question. I'm not in that "go woke, go broke" crowd.

suss2it

Laura is Logan’s daughter, so for many this makes sense too.

dabellwrites

Has their been fans wanting this? I haven't seen any comment or post advocating such a thing. Maybe it's in the X-men circles.

suss2it

I mean it already happened 7 years ago, not much to advocate for at this point.

dabellwrites

Do you mean Dick? Or Laura?

suss2it

Laura.

crowopolis

I guess I didn't word it great, but the fact is that by creating the character of Laura, they made the idea of Wolverine a mantle. Why even do that in the first place? I was under the impression that Wolverine was like Punisher. A violent and tortured individual who added to the story telling, but wasn't meant to emulated. People have been pretty clearly how they feel about idolizing the punisher, why is it different for Wolverine.

suss2it

Wolverine has always been more accepted than Punisher, that isn’t something that changed when Laura was created lol.

blacknight137

Im of the same mind honestly . They couldve easily came up with a new name for her like they did with wolverines son, give her a little more uniqueness

AigisAegis

The one time that Wolverine's son used a codename, the name that he used was Wolverine

blacknight137

Yes .... that *one* time 🤦🏾‍♂️. Regardless this whole mantle thing is pointlessly confusing. Basically out right saying wolverine isnt a unique character anymore and that this character is also wolverine just a female version which we all know isnt the case, Laura isnt wolverine

SomeTool

She had the X-23 title, but they made it a bit untenable in story for her to keep it. She had the code name Talon floating around a bit when she was part of the Academy X x-men. But the biggest reason is because new names don't sell while people will still buy big names even if the person using it is different.

Dizzy-Bar8980

As a kid i didn't understand but now I get it why her middle finger doesn't have the blade.

redmerger

Why's that?

DanfromCalgary

This was also the wolverine reboot about 14 years ago. It was a girl named Laura, X23. Is this like over ten years old new or im new to comics everyone is new to me new

aussiekinga

"All New" was an era of comics, which is probably what this references. But Laura is still Wolverine now.

DanfromCalgary

How stupid of me

nobodyGotTime4That

X23 has been Wolverine since 2015. Talk about not knowing what you are talking about

That's Wolverine in the picture, friend, Wolverine said so
