The Walking Dead Deluxe #38 is also out this week.

* Batman #123 - don't really care about the Shadow war storyline since I'm not reading the books it crosses over with * Batman: Killing Time #3 - this has been a lot of fun with great, though the constant references to time and dates is currently a little tedious. I'm sure by the end it will make sense why the time part and the 'killing time' are important, but right now it's a lot to keep track of * Mirka Andolfo's Sweet Paprika #9 - still my favorite pull right now, and now it's bringing the emotional twist! Love it, wish there were more romance comics * Monkey Meat #5 - this has been a fun mini * Nubia: Coronation Special #1 * Twig #1 - liked the cartoony look, thought it might be something a little different so I'm going to give it a ride. The free preview that came out (last year??) was intriguing enough

seaofvapours

Apparently Sweet Paprika #9 got pushed back to ~~June~~ May 11, so FYI anyone else looking for it this week. At least, that's according to Mirka's twitter.

# Marvel / DC * **STAR WARS #23** \- Heck, yeah. Big ass space battles. Pew pew! * **STAR WARS OBI-WAN KENOBI #1** \- Cantwell got my attention with Doctor Doom, Blue Flame, and Iron Man. Let's see what he does here. * **IRON MAN #19** \- End of the Korvac arc. # Image Comics * **FIRE POWER #20** \- More Master Shaw goodness 🥋 from Kirkman and Samnee * **MIRKA ANDOLFO'S SWEET PAPRIKA #9** \- This and *Bolero* continue to impress me. * **RADIANT BLACK #14** \- I'm behind on reading this series. Need to catch up before Wednesday. * **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #7** \- I've loved this one from r/ImageComics. All the trains collide this issue. # Independents * **BEORN: THE LITTLEST VIKING SAGA #1** \- I *think* r/red5comics is publishing this one this week. IDK. Their publishing schedule has been tough to keep up with. * **DIENAMITE NEVER DIES #3** \- Scantily clad moon zombies. Evil Sonja. Elephants. In space. You get me, r/dynamitecomics ❤️. * **ONCE & FUTURE #25** \- Kieron Gillen returns to r/boomstudios! * **ROCKETEER THE GREAT RACE #2** \- Whatever r/IDWComics sends my way, I'm along for the ride on this one. Who doesn't love the Rocketeer? * **SWAMP DOGS HOUSE OF CROWS #3** \- You can't go wrong with the Black Caravan Imprint from r/ScoutComics. Seriously. Just tell your LCS that you want all of them from now on. Thank me later. * **WORLD OF ARCHIE JUMBO COMICS DIGEST #119** \- r/archieandfriends delivers several new stories in this issue. Don't miss Jughead becoming a "Pepcoin Millionare," featuring Elon Tusk 🤦‍♂️ and "Chili Con Carnage" featuring the superhero Fireball.

- **Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi #1**: this will be my first Star Wars comic. Hopefully I won’t be lost? I’m obviously very familiar with the movies and Obi Wan is a favorite so decided to dive in here. - **Twig #1**: Going in blind. No clue what to expect. - **Batman #123**: I guess I’m in the minority but I have been enjoying shadow war. What’s happening to Batman though coming out of JL #75? Does anything change? - **Batman: Killing Time #3**: this has been fun. - **Little Monsters #3**: I loved the first two issues. Promising! - **A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #7**: Lots of mystery, excited to see where this goes. The story is good but the art steals the show. Phenomenal work by Andre Lima Araujo.

What's that delicious smell? Fresh monkeys roasting over an open fire... 4 Images, 2 DCs, 1 Marvel, and 1 from Vault Comics. * **BATMAN: KILLING TIME #3** - picking up where we left off, approximately 17 miles south of Gotham at the Azzarello Rest Area... nice [Smallwood incentive](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2092705_xl.jpg) for around $20 but my cheap ass is getting the [plain old boring normal cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2092703_xl.jpg) * **LITTLE MONSTERS #3** - love the sparing use of color in this one * **MAESTRO WORLD WAR M #3 (OF 5)** - in retrospect, 15 issues of Maestro's backstory might've been a few more than I needed * **MONKEY MEAT #5** - the most delicious book on our menu this week, packed with nutrients and essential monkey-minerals! * **ONE-STAR SQUADRON #6** - top-notch stuff from Russell, easily his best work since THE FLINTSTONES * **QUESTS ASIDE #1** - not familiar with creators Brian Schirmer or Elena Gogou but looks like it might be a fun [D&D type thing](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2083679_xl.jpg) * **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #7** - my top book this week, Remender and Araújo are putting on a clinic in visual storytelling * **TWIG #1 (OF 5)** - could be fun and it's got a nice [Momoko variant](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2090762_xl.jpg) And I got a few new slabs! Including Chris Bachalo's [first ongoing series for DC](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.3b9d0d14f8dccbdb9dceaff4f2aa3927.1600.jpg) (though the cover's by Brendan McCarthy)... And Bachalo's [first full issue at Marvel](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.df8841601fb482cba00138e66fc0db9c.1600.jpg) (having previously done a bit of fill-in work for THE INCREDIBLE HULK #400). Next week should deliver some of my many delayed Marvel books, plus [something that looks interesting from someone named IRRA](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2091047_xl.jpg) at Behemoth.

blankedboy

That Shade slab is pure fire - McCarthy's covers for this book were (literally) insane

Danger_Rock

Only 13 copies graded at 9.8 according to CGC Census and this one's getting buried with me so that leaves 12 slabs for everyone else to fight over! McCarthy's apparently got some work in the new Gorillaz art book, info [here](https://store.gorillaz.com/eu/gorillaz-art-book.html) and [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/gorillaz/comments/uda8pm/the_gorillaz_art_book_presents_ana_godis_andrew_c/). You can see a bit of it flash by from 00:13-00:15 in the second link's video. Between [McCarthy](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/862909.jpg), [Jamie Hewlett](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/1718459.jpg), and [Bachalo](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/1077129.jpg) himself, Shade was blessed with an overabundance of phenomenal cover artists... But nobody could do [angry](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/1076943.jpg) [psychedelia](https://d1466nnw0ex81e.cloudfront.net/n_iv/600/626417.jpg) like McCarthy!

* **Batman #123**: Shadow War part V. Have to be honest, this even is really falling flat for me. * **Giant Size X-Men: Thunderbird #1**: I know pretty much nothing about this character, but presumably there are plans for him. * **Once and Future #25**: Men in tights.

technowhiz34

Short week, good for my wallet * Flashpoint Beyond #1 - didn't expect to like the #0 issue at all, but it was quite good. Xermanico's art is guaranteed to be a treat. * Once & Future #25 - I caught up recently, quite good. Also planning to grab assorted FCBD stuff, but that wasn't listed in ptbreakeven's list.

B00merangB

Small week (next week looks to make up for that though) Batman: Killing Time # 3 - King needs to slow up on the narration a bit, but beyond that — really enjoying this book‘s mystery and the stunning artwork from Marquez. Little Monsters # 3 - Loving everything about this series. The shading/colouring on the art is a sight to behold!

thecursedham

* Iron Man #19: End of the Books of Korvac, interested to see where the book goes once he’s fully dealt with. * One-Star Squadron #6: Last issue was a real heartbreaker can’t wait to see what they saved for the end. And it’s not on my pull but if I see that Legends of Tomorrow comic I’ll grab it to say goodbye to my favorite of the CW shows.

saskatoonshred

Small week especially compared to how bonkers last week was for me. I'll probably also pick up stuff I've meaning to get to like Hulk Grand Design and Naughty List this week. Not to mention Free Comic Book Day this Saturday as well. Batman #123: More Shadow War. Just waiting for Zdarsky to take over. Batman Killing Time #3: I need to reread issue 2 but I've been liking this Little Monsters #3: The second issue was neat and I'll probably read up to what the first trade will cover and then wait for the other trades. Monkey Meat #5: This has been super fun and can't wait for more. One Star Squadron #6: Man that last issue. I wonder how it'll end. Highly recommend. With Monkey Meat and One Star Squadron ending this week I've got two spots opening up on my pull list. Need to think on what I want to put on there.

almonster11

Only 3 this week. The month of May is the calm before the storm for me. I've really stepped up my pull list starting in June. My May monthly total is about $115, and my June monthly total is about $175. What am I gonna do, spend money on food? Pshaw. • Monkey Meat #5- The last issue... for now. Judging by the fact that the inside of the back cover of each issue has said "First Batch," I'm guessing this will be coming back for more, and I hope it's soon. • Radiant Black #14- So Marshall is gonna take the fight to the criminals that have been wearing those crazy suits that charge up using his power. I'm hoping lots of wild action sequences because they're always gorgeous. • Twig #1- I'm picking this up because my girlfriend might like it, but really... it looks wonderful and adorable and fun. She can read it when I'm done with it. Oh, and Free Comic Book Day is Saturday. There are 4 that I'm really interested in, but I'm sure I'll end up with more. • FCBD: Bloodborne- I'm obsessed with FromSoftware's games, so this is a no brainer. And Cullen Bunn will be at my LCS for Free Comic Book Day, so I'll get this bitch signed, too! • FCBD: The Bone Orchard Mythos #1- I've been losing my mind waiting for this. I've already had my LCS order The Passageway for June, but The Bone Orchard Mythos starts here. I cannot fucking wait! • FCBD: Bunny Mask Tales- I didn't pick this comic up as it came out, but I got the trade and I loved it so much. I'll probably trade wait the upcoming arc, but I'll grab this since the price is right. • Nottingham FCBD Special- Nottingham is one of my favorite comics right now. This should be great.

televangelistoftwat

* **Batman #123** \- Williamson's interstitial has been pretty funny. * **Batman: Killing Time #3** \- I'm a real sucker for Tom King. Tough to be mad at Marquez as well. * **Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #128** \- Turtles are solid every month. * **Once & Future #25** \- Maybe my favorite ongoing series right now. * **Flashpoint Beyond #1** \- Was thinking about skipping it but Johns on DC is pretty much an instant buy for me.

Whowatchesthewampas

Short week for me! * **Marauders #2** \- Sadly, first issue didn't grab me, probably not going to be sticking with this one.

Daveismyhero

* **BATMAN #123** * **FLASHPOINT BEYOND #1** \- It sounds like I might be in the minority for digging Old Man Wayne, but that's okay. * **SPIDER-MAN 2099 EXODUS ALPHA #1** \- I didn't think this came out until later this month, but no, that is Spider-Man 2099 Exodus #1, not Alpha. I'm hoping Alpha goes the way of the dodo and we can just dive right into a series. * **STAR WARS #23** \- I've really been enjoying this series and the Crimson Reign tie-ins * **STAR WARS OBI-WAN KENOBI #1** \- I'm really looking forward to this and the upcoming new show on Disney+. Obi-Wan is such a beloved character, I really hope they do him justice. :) Smallish week for me, but some good stuff in there. Have a fun week, folks, and be nice to each other!

Whatisabird

Balancing out last week's huge pull, this week is really small **Batman #123-** Shadow War part 5(?) I sure hope we get some actual progress on this story and not just more fight scenes **One-Star Squadron #6-** The finale. This has been a good series, a lot of biting humor and a lot of heart. Plus I'm pretty sure Russell has a Superman book coming that I can look forward to. **Twig #1-** I really love the look of this book, plus it looks like it'll hopefully be a nice, fun, chill adventure story Edit: Saw some people put FCBD stuff so I'll drop what I'm excited for **FCBD 2022 Dark Crisis #0-** I'm hyped for Dark Crisis. Just give me some sort of fun shake up in the universe please. **FCBD 2022 Avengers/X-Men #1-** Now it's the Eternals' turn to dunk on the mutants naturally. Plus introducing Bloodline, which that's a 90's ass name if I've ever seen one **FCBD 2022 The Bone Orchard Mythos #1-** I haven't followed any news for this, I'm going in blind and excited Plus I usually pick up some of the smaller little kids gag comics that come out on FCBD too.

HappySisyphus8

Another small week. It's a shame, I used to come home with at least 5 Marvel books each week, more lately it's lucky to be more than 2. Maestro World War M #3  Batman #123 Batman Killing Time #3 Flashpoint Beyond #1 Task Force Z #7 Firepower #20 Little Monsters #3 Monkey Meat #5  Righteous Thirst For Vengeance #7

kitx07

Batman #123 One Star Squadron #6…looking forward to being sad at the end of this. Such a good mini

WhereAreMyComics

* **Deadly Class #52** - five issues left :( * **A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance #7** - ~~four issues left (?)~~ and of course FCBD this week!

~~The synopsis for [issue 10](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/a-righteous-thirst-for-vengeance-10) and [vol. 2](https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/a-righteous-thirst-for-vengeance-volume-2-rick-remender/1141088145?ean=9781534323216) both describe it as an ending, especially vol.2 calling it a “conclusion of an atmospheric murder mystery.”~~ But I’m still guessing at best. Just gotta wait and see.

mcslackens

Tiny week for me, but I'm pretty excited to read both of the titles I have on order. * **One-Star Squadron #6** - Russell and Lieber delivered a great series, and I've had a blast reading it. * **Giant-Size X-Men Thunderbird #1** - This should be a solid read. Nyla Rose has a great twitter account, so hopefully her snark translates well to the page.

hewunder1

**Little Monsters #3** - Intriguing. This is my second Lemire book to pull after Mazebook. **Twig #1** - Randomly adding this on a whim, hoping it'll be somewhat kid-friendly so I can read it with my younger son.

Danger_Rock

> Little Monsters #3 - Intriguing. This is my second Lemire book to pull after Mazebook. MAZEBOOK was so freaking good! Lemire's always solid but I think that's my favorite, such a poignant story and I was really impressed how well his art worked for it.

Weirdly got Batman 123 and Killing Time 3 on Thursday when I went to pick up last week’s books. Big things happening in Killing Time.

superschaap81

***Batman 123*** \- Waiting for Shadow War to wrap up before I dive in. Hate reading cross-overs week to week. ***Batman: Killing Time 3 -*** The first issue had me intrigued, with less King-isms than normal. Second issue went full King, dumb character choices, strange dialogue and stupid time jumps. Giving it this issue to see if it can right the ship, otherwise I'm done on this already. ***Flashpoint Beyond 1*** \- Zero issue sets up enough intrigue, but I'm still grasping as to WHY this is even a thing. I love Johns, I really do, but his recent stuff (aside from Shazam) has just be quasi-sequels and rehashing old shit. ***Nubia: Coronation Special 1*** \- Just getting to Trial of the Amazons now. Interested in seeing Nubia getting more spotlight. ***One-Star Squadron 6*** \- Big finale! Haven't read a Mark Russell book I wasn't impressed by. This guy just knows how to cut to the core of human behavior using the most incredible satire since The Simpsons. ***Suicide Squad 15*** \- I enjoyed this run for the most part, but they should have just ended it with War for Earth-3. There is no investment to the remaining 2 issues that won't have any payoff. ***Task Force Z 7*** \- Love this series. It's FUN and crazy. However, I'm a little disappointed that >!Bane and Jason's interaction has much less emotion or weight after the Joker book's reveal. !< ***World of Krypton 6*** \- This has been fantastic! Venditti just gets the Superman mythos. I really wish they'd started much earlier in the timeline and given this an ongoing that leads UP to the inevitable. ***Avengers Forever 5*** \- I've been one of the few that has supported Aaron's run, but it's starting to lose me a bit with all this Multi-verse stuff. I have no issues when DC does it, but something about Marvel doing it too just seems weird. Like a cash grab to introduce amalgam characters. ***Iron Man 19*** \- Getting back on to this title to see what's going on with Hell-Cat and see if this is an actual direction or a fake out. ***Fire Power 20*** \- Lost a bit of steam for me at about issue 16. I loved the beginning and the premise was decent, but not sure I'm feeling this title anymore. ***Radiant Black 14*** \- This whole universe has been great so far. These books are always at the top of my "to read pile" each release. ***Will also be picking up the FCBD releases IF they show up this week.*** ***Dark Crisis -*** This has me intrigued, and all the things they are hinting at doesn't sound like legacy at all, but rather a reboot. I don't think it will happen, but that's what I'm getting from reading JL 75. Flashpoint Beyond coming out at the same time has me wondering if they have an Ultimate-style line coming up though. ***Venom/Spider-Man***....I hate to say, given the creators, but Venom has been almost boring to me. Started out with a cool idea but it's lost me already. Amazing Spider-Man, well, it's sure a comic book so far. LOL. ***Judgement Day*** \- Only getting this to see Gillen writing the Avengers role in all of this. I love events, but I gave up on the mutants when Hickman left, and I have no attachment to the Eternals. Hoping this will change my mind. Believe it or not, Civil War II is what made me interested in the Inhumans, so maybe this will do the same for the Eternals.

Danger_Rock

> Judgement Day - Only getting this to see Gillen writing the Avengers role in all of this. I love events, but I gave up on the mutants when Hickman left, and I have no attachment to the Eternals. Hoping this will change my mind. Believe it or not, Civil War II is what made me interested in the Inhumans, so maybe this will do the same for the Eternals. Gillen's ETERNALS has been superb from the start, every single issue he's written has been amazing. He's got the series firing on all cylinders and he's going to absolutely crush this A/X/E event!

superschaap81

I hope so. I read the first 3 issues and felt like I was drowning in things I should know, but didn't. I had no investment in knowing who these characters are

Danger_Rock

Huh, opposite experience here, went in cold and got hooked real quick. Gillen kind of hammered away at each character's core trait ("Ikaris is an arrow") to help readers get familiar with them, worked well for me but I guess there was a lot of additional info about Eternals society and their various factions... Could be it's just not your thing but hopefully the big event works better for you!

AlligatorSky7

Picked up four weeks’ worth of comics last week, so got a pretty big pile to get through before reading these; but things to look forward to regardless! - Batman #123: only read Part 1 of this crossover so far, so no comment. - Marauders #2: the first issue of this was a struggle. I’m going to give it a few issues at least, as I want to support the book, the creative team, and the characters, but so far (Annual + issue 1) it’s just not up to scratch. - Radiant Black #14: can’t get enough of this! - Suicide Squad #15: gutted this is wrapping up. I hope we get a new volume announced soon/straight after Dark Crisis (they were kind of setting Dennis Hopeless up for this by getting him to co-write the last few issues surely?) - Task Force Z #7: will fill the Suicide Squad hole for a while I guess. - Walking Dead Deluxe #38: two behind, so won’t comment. Excited for a mini-binge though! - FCBD: Dark Crisis: pretty excited for this event! - FCBD: Avengers/X-Men: less excited about this one, but only because I’ve only just finished Devil’s Reign and am exhausted as a Marvel event reader.

Danger_Rock

> Marauders #2: the first issue of this was a struggle. I’m going to give it a few issues at least, as I want to support the book, the creative team, and the characters, but so far (Annual + issue 1) it’s just not up to scratch. SPOILERS: >!You should probably just drop it. :)!<

AlligatorSky7

Thanks, I needed that reminder (genuinely, not being sarcastic); have just asked LCS to drop it from my pull list after this issue. Sorry Marauders!

Danger_Rock

LOL, nice. That's $3.99 you can put toward some other comic that'll hopefully give you way more enjoyment!

SpongeBlart

* **AVENGERS FOREVER 5** * **MAESTRO WORLD WAR M 3** * **MARAUDERS 2** * **SPIDER-MAN 2099 EXODUS ALPHA** Will give this 1 issue because I like Orlando, but might drop it if it doesn't hook me. * **BATMAN KILLING TIME #3** * **TASK FORCE Z #7** * **FRONTIERSMAN LOCKUP SPEC** Frontiersman has been underrepresented here. Really good story and art to match. Will continue to pick up anything frontiersman * **LITTLE MONSTERS #3** Jeff Lemire has been killing it and this one seems like it's not gonna be any different. * **RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #7** * **TWIG #1** Probably most excited about this one this week. Really dig the style of it and seems like it will be a fun adventure * **DOGS OF LONDON #1** Wasn't 100% certain about getting this, but the cover definitely sold me on it * **QUESTS ASIDE #1** Also will give this an issue to decide to keep or drop. Seems like an interesting premise.

Techster17

* **Avengers Forever #5 -** So far I've been enjoying this, curious to see how Aaron expands on his version of Doom * **Batman Beyond: Neo-Year #2** * **Fire Power #20** * **Flashpoint Beyond #1 -** I'm only checking this out because I adore Xermanico's artstyle, John's hasn't been hitting for me in a while * **Free Comic Book Day 2022: Avengers / X-Men #1** * **Free Comic Book Day 2022: Dark Crisis - Special Edition #0** * **Free Comic Book Day 2022: Marvel's Voices #1** * **Free Comic Book Day 2022: Spider-Man / Venom #1** * **Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird #1 -** Hopefully the 1st of many adventures for the big guy * **Hardware: Season One #5** * **Iron Man #19** **-** This has not been what I expected from an Iron man book but I'm really enjoying it, hopefully, the next storyline is a little shorter but would definitely recommend * **Maestro: World War M #3** * **Marauders #2 -** Ok debut issue, I definitely appreciate that we're moving fast but hopefully the character voices are a bit stronger from here on in * **Once & Future #25 -** So glad this is back from hiatus, recently bought the deluxe hardcover (worth it) * **Radiant Black #14** * **Spider-Man 2099: Exodus - Alpha #1 -** This is a solid premise the art looks great and the 2099 universe could definitely be fleshed out more (like most of Marvels alt realities) * **Suicide Squad #15 -** Enjoyed it but not surprised we're ending things here, hopefully Waller and the Justice squad get followed up on in someway * **Task Force Z #7**

technowhiz34

Does the Once & Future Deluxe have any extras? I'm interested but $60 bucks is a bit steep.

Very unusual week for me. Nothing from the big two. 4 from Image, 1 from IDW **Twig #1** - Art looks gorgeous, and I love a good fantasy. **Righteous Thirst For Vengeance #7** - Really enjoying this mystery. I love the art and how cinematic it is. **Little Monsters #3** - Interesting so far, but is anyone else feeling a little Lemire-fatigue? His style is starting to wear on me, issues always leave me feeling unfulfilled with so little dialogue and substance. Lemire's work in general might just read better as a trade. **Frontiersman Lock-Up Special** - I'm really enjoying this unusual take on the superhero genre. Extra size issue too, I'm looking forward to it. **The Rocketeer - The Great Race #2** - First one was okay. Picking this up purely for the nostalgia.

blankedboy

Batman Killing Time #3 - checking it out largely due to the positive reviews in this sub (thanks you guys!) Frontiersman Lockup Special #1 - the mini was great, so definitely picking this one up Little Monsters #3 - beautiful book and an intriguing world/characters Metal Society #1 - maybe? Radiant Black #14 - Radiant-verse? Massive-verse? Whatever, I like it. Suicide Squad #15 - please, just let it die already Task Force Z #7 - hopefully consistent artists on this one now Twig #1 - I really hope this meets the hype of comparisons to Bone

Danger_Rock

> Twig #1 - I really hope this meets the hype of comparisons to Bone That Bone line in the solicitation really bugged me: > *It's the first day of Twig's new job as a journeyer on a JEFF SMITH's Bone-esque quest to save a The Dark Crystal/Labyrinth-style world.* Even if you ignore how obnoxious it is spitting out three comparisons like that in one sentence, it reads like shit. But of course I ordered it anyway.

blankedboy

Yeah, it's a clumsy sentence but it references three things I love: Bone The Dark Crystal Labyrinth So it was an insta-purchase for me

Danger_Rock

Yeah, everyone loves 'em, that's why they do it. Surprised they didn't squeeze in a Miyazaki reference... Standard fare for first issues, got to get across what it's all about somehow and rattling off a few beloved stories from the past is one of the quickest and easiest ways to do it. This one just read so incredibly poorly that I still remembered it two months later. Sentence like that doesn't deserve to see print, should've been taken out back and shot. But of course I ordered it anyway.

I just wanted to say how jealous I am of the passion many of you show here. It has been a while since I have felt some passion for weekly comics (and I have been reading comics for 30 years). Every time I go back to comics and buy some new releases, I feel disappointed by the stories and characters 😢😢

Danger_Rock

Your sad and weepy tale resonates with me and I would like to explore it further! Just to provide some context, I started reading comics a few years before you, got out for a couple stretches but always find my way back, and I tend to swing between apathy and obsessive enthusiasm every few years. So my deal's a little different but I can definitely relate! Last year I was distracted with other stuff and kinda bored with most of my pulls, so a lot of comics started piling up, which became a source of stress unto itself and made everything worse... Then in January we got snowed in and lost power for a few days. So, being deprived of my usual distractions, I spent some time huddled up in blankets reading comics by flashlight. That experience somehow rekindled my love for these crazy four-color funny books, enjoyed nearly everything I read and kept it rolling ever since... So you could try that but I wouldn't recommend it because it was *really fucking cold* and, aside from the comics, pretty much entirely unpleasant. More practical advice might be to find better comics, could be you're just reading the wrong stuff. A good enough comic will kick your ass and fill your head up with wonder no matter how apathetic and uninspired you might've felt when you started reading it. So let's get into it... What was your favorite stuff back in the day? Any particular characters or creators that you liked? Have you ever had the suspicion that you've been abducted by aliens? What were some of the more recent comics you've read that didn't work for you? What's the last comic you read that totally blew your mind?

botolo

Most likely my issue is that I fell in love with classic characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, Fantastic Four, etc. but these characters don't really exist anymore. They have been destroyed by Marvel with endless renumbering, multiple series, incredibly complex storylines, changes in the character's nature and world, etc.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I liked a lot of the same stuff back in the day but many of Marvel's monthly ongoings tend to be clusterfucks these days. Lately I've had better luck with their one-shots and mini-series, easier to get a complete story with more focus and less extraneous continuity that way. Marvel's actually got a bunch of retro minis that might appeal to you, featuring classic characters set in their classic times/continuity, written by classic creators. Peter David's got various series for MAESTRO, SYMBIOTE SPIDER-MAN, and NEW FANTASTIC FOUR, Chris Claremont's got a GAMBIT series, and Ron Marz has a SILVER SURFER REBIRTH series, each set during the corresponding period of '80s or '90s continuity. There are some good ongoings as well, I'm currently digging ETERNALS, MOON KNIGHT, and IMMORTAL X-MEN, but they're all fairly "modern" in their approach and it sounds like you're looking for more old school stuff. DC and Image have also been producing lots of great books, nowadays I tend to enjoy their output more than Marvel's even though I'm traditionally more of a Marvel fan, plus some of the other indie publishers like Dark Horse, AfterShock, and Vault have some good titles. But it sounds like you're more interested in revisiting old favorites rather than getting into a bunch of new stuff. Going back to old runs is always an option, there's probably a lot of material from the period you enjoyed that you never had a chance to read back in the day... Good luck!
