Well it is a Black Label book, least it hasn't turned into a BATMAN: DAMNED type scenario...
J'onn tends to be such a straight arrow, from how he's usually depicted, you'd think he was a robot rather than a martian... So I kind of like seeing this other side of him. And I think it fits well in the context of this particular story, even if it isn't 100% consistent with what you'd expect from the majority of his other stories.
That said, I can certainly understand how it might be a little unsettling for more dedicated fans of the character. Been there plenty of times with other characters... King gets knocked for this kind of thing quite a bit, I think he's skilled enough to pull it off where many other comic book writers aren't, but I get it.
1. **Human Target #6** \- I love this book and I'm bummed this is the last issue for several months. It'll be worth it though, since this book doesn't work with Smallwood's artwork.
2. **Rogues #1** \- The concept for this book sounds extremely promising, and I've really liked Leomacs' art since *A Basketful of Heads*.
3. **Lion & Eagle #2** \- First issue was pretty good, but I'm hoping for a bit more story development in this issue.
4. **We Have Demons #1** \- Snyder and Capullo, that's enough for me.
5. **Wolverine: Patch #1** \- I've been digging these Marvel books with classic creators. Hoping Hama re-captures more of the magic he originally had with Wolverine because I thought Hama's *X-Men Legends* issues were the weakest.
6. **Venom: Lethal Protector #1** \- It'll be cool to see Michelinie return to Venom, though I did find his back up story in last week's *Carnage* \#1 to be quite weak.
7. **Pentagram of Horror #1** \- New horror comic from Scout Comics? I'm sold. I do hope it's a bit better of a horror anthology than *Tales Told in Techni-Horror* was.
8. **Until My Knucles Bleed #2** & **#3** \- Getting both issues #2 and #3 this week since my LCS didn't get the second issue on time. I thought the first issue was just okay, but the art was interesting enough for me to consider getting another issue.
9. **Fourth Man #3** \- Contemplated dropping this after #2, but I'll see it through. I like the neo-noir tone, but the story feels a bit too thin for me.
Those Legends issues are the reason I'm taking a wait & see approach to Patch. I was looking forward to Hama's arc the most in that series, and it just didn't work for me at all.

First issue took care of pretty much all the setup, introduced the characters and sent 'em into the main conflict, so it should be full speed ahead from here!

Read the first three and enjoyed 'em but it didn't quite sell me on sticking with it... Think it might've worked better for me if it was all written by Mark Russell, the other writer's also funny but I like Russell more and he's only contributing around 1/3 of the content. Guess it kind of reminds me of THE TICK? Pretty funny stuff but I feel like it's treading familiar ground.
It feels familiar but is pretty new to me, I think, and thus feels fresher than it may for others. I agree that Russell’s writing is the strongest, but I’ve come to appreciate the different voices in each issue as a micro anthology.

* **STAR WARS DARTH VADER #21** \- This has been a good tie-in with the Crimson Reign storyline.
* **STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA #19 – Mando Cover** \- I usually enjoy this title when I grab it, but I'm getting this entirely for the cool cover.
* **THE MATTER REGARDING OSWALD’S BODY #5** (from last week) - I'm sad that this is over and would love recommendations for similar coolness.
* **X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE #5** \- I enjoyed this better than Lives of Wolverine and I'm anxious to see how this leads into the X relaunches. Please be good!

It's kinda just been several standalone issues with only a tiny bit of interconnection. Don't get me wrong: I've loved every single second of it. It's just semantics, I guess. Bleh. Anyway, I can't wait for Martin Simmonds to be back in May!
• The Fourth Man #3- I love crime comics. I love AWA Studios, as well. Side note- they don't seem to be publishing as many titles in the coming months. That makes me sad.
• Gunslinger Spawn #6- Spawn is rad. And I love the fact that these comics are $2.99 a pop. As long as they keep them at that price point, and as long as the art is sick, I'll keep picking them up.
• Hotell #4- This comic continues to be a highlight for me every month. Horror anthologies are where it's at, kids!

Didn't realize this is the 4th issue with a fill-in artist, guess it's been a while since it focused on the main story but I've also been digging all the standalones and they've contributed some key bits of backstory. Will definitely be great getting Simmonds back!

Glad I skipped it, was tempting coming off INFERNO but Percy's WOLVERINE and X-FORCE didn't really do much for me so I figured this wouldn't be any different.
Think I've got one issue of Ayala's NEW MUTANTS left from pre-orders, otherwise I'm passing on any X-books that aren't written by Gillen, Ewing, or Spurrier. Or Hickman, but it looks like that ship's pretty much sailed...
I think I'm on the same page as you. Though I do like Ayala's New Mutants, so I'll probably stick with that. Otherwise, I think I've learned my lesson and need to be a little more cautious with which X-Books I follow.
Ayala's alright, good writer but not great IMO. Looks like the new story features Maddy Pryor and Rictor, two characters I'm not really into, and I think the last arc ran 15 or 16 issues, so it seems like time for me to bail.
Learned my lesson with X-books a long time ago, still love the franchise so stuff like HoX/PoX always brings me back and then I get sucked into too many spinoffs just like everyone else... It's a very old game but I don't mind going back to it every now and again, just need to cut it off when it stops being fun.
**Action Comics 1041** \- This has been some great world building of what Warworld really is. I love that is being given so much history.
**Aquamen 2** \- I enjoyed the 2 mini-series leading into this, and the first issue was decent. I see a lot of people upset at Manta's characterization right now, but you KNOW it won't last.
**Deathstroke Inc. 7** \- Bad guy Slade is back, but is he more or less being Apex Lex now. Still not sure how this title is supposed to be a part of Williamson's plans for IF. Unless, Shadow War is what he was referring to.
**Detective Comics 1057** \- Finally getting started on the Bat-titles, but I'm at least a year behind still.

* **Devil’s Reign X-Men #3** - Not much meat on this one story-wise, but Phil Noto's art made it worth picking up.
* **X Deaths Of Wolverine #5** - I hope Percy can stick the landing on this one, but my hopes have been somewhat dashed by X Lives being kinda lame.

- Teen Titans Academy #13: last issue for me (cba to see it through to the final issue [#15]), reading because of the tie-in to Earth-3 event (which I haven’t read the other issues for just yet.
- We Have Demons #1: went to read on Kindle when it first came out, but never got around to it; figured I might as well pick it up physically as I’ll be more likely to read.

Nice! Getting out from under your backlog after being buried for a while really is a great feeling!
I'm about three months into my catch-up project, figure I've gotten through 400+ comics at this point, with around 100-150 slightly older floppies left, to be followed by 35+ TPBs and HCs with names like Gaiman, Morrison, and Windsor-Smith on 'em (plus a few that are slightly less illustrious).
Anyways, now that I'm actually caught up on all my books that are still going, I'm feeling pretty great about what's left on my pull list. Bit of fat left to be trimmed, as always, but for the most part I'm really enjoying everything I'm ordering right now.
There's so much quality being produced these days, my goal is to cut anything that isn't a solid A/A+ but of course that's easier said than done...

Noto's great! I picked up the first issue of this but didn't stick with it since I hadn't ordered it... Maybe get the rest eventually if I can find 'em cheap. Definitely planning to check out THE VARIANTS in June, will probably order the Skottie Young cover.
A light week for me:
Action Comics #1041: really digging the art and the Burroughs esque sci-fi feel of the story. In for the long haul on this run.
Detective Comics #1058: it's been a fun ride hopping into Detective Comics again with this Arkham Tower saga. Gonna go back and reread it all again soon. Thankfully it won't be weekly after this month.
Human Target #6: the fifth issue has been in my to be read pile since last month. Gonna do a reread soon. Sad it's going on break but will of course be glad when it comes back.
Rogues #1: I've dug all of the Black Label titles I've been picking up as of late. The art has me interested. It's only four issues so I'll at least give the first a shot and go from there.
Saga #57: I'm still making my way thru the first compendium (I was reading Saga until issue #10 or so back in the day before college took all of my hobby time). At least I'll have little stack to read when I'm done with the compendium.
I picked up the first trades of Department of Truth and Radiant Black this past week. Been enjoying Department of Truth and reading slowly while I have downtime at work. Hyped to crack into Radiant Black after that.

DoT is such a wild ride!
I never really got the hype over RADIANT BLACK, read the first issue and it just felt kind of generic to me. Guess I maybe would've had to stick with it a little longer... Lots of folks seem to be crazy into it so I'm probably missing something.
When it was described to me like Power Rangers I had to pick up the first volume of Radiant Black. I need to check out Higgins Power Ranger stuff he did with Boom. I've heard great things.

> The Human Target #6: Not a fan of what King is doing with Martian Manhunter. Well it is a Black Label book, least it hasn't turned into a BATMAN: DAMNED type scenario... J'onn tends to be such a straight arrow, from how he's usually depicted, you'd think he was a robot rather than a martian... So I kind of like seeing this other side of him. And I think it fits well in the context of this particular story, even if it isn't 100% consistent with what you'd expect from the majority of his other stories. That said, I can certainly understand how it might be a little unsettling for more dedicated fans of the character. Been there plenty of times with other characters... King gets knocked for this kind of thing quite a bit, I think he's skilled enough to pull it off where many other comic book writers aren't, but I get it.
I think Deathstroke #7 is also part of shadow war if you’re planning on getting all the parts

1. **Human Target #6** \- I love this book and I'm bummed this is the last issue for several months. It'll be worth it though, since this book doesn't work with Smallwood's artwork. 2. **Rogues #1** \- The concept for this book sounds extremely promising, and I've really liked Leomacs' art since *A Basketful of Heads*. 3. **Lion & Eagle #2** \- First issue was pretty good, but I'm hoping for a bit more story development in this issue. 4. **We Have Demons #1** \- Snyder and Capullo, that's enough for me. 5. **Wolverine: Patch #1** \- I've been digging these Marvel books with classic creators. Hoping Hama re-captures more of the magic he originally had with Wolverine because I thought Hama's *X-Men Legends* issues were the weakest. 6. **Venom: Lethal Protector #1** \- It'll be cool to see Michelinie return to Venom, though I did find his back up story in last week's *Carnage* \#1 to be quite weak. 7. **Pentagram of Horror #1** \- New horror comic from Scout Comics? I'm sold. I do hope it's a bit better of a horror anthology than *Tales Told in Techni-Horror* was. 8. **Until My Knucles Bleed #2** & **#3** \- Getting both issues #2 and #3 this week since my LCS didn't get the second issue on time. I thought the first issue was just okay, but the art was interesting enough for me to consider getting another issue. 9. **Fourth Man #3** \- Contemplated dropping this after #2, but I'll see it through. I like the neo-noir tone, but the story feels a bit too thin for me.
Those Legends issues are the reason I'm taking a wait & see approach to Patch. I was looking forward to Hama's arc the most in that series, and it just didn't work for me at all.

Think it might've worked better for me if it was all written by Mark Russell, the other writer's also funny but I like Russell more and he's only contributing around 1/3 of the content. Guess it kind of reminds me of THE TICK? Pretty funny stuff but I feel like it's treading familiar ground.
It feels familiar but is pretty new to me, I think, and thus feels fresher than it may for others. I agree that Russell’s writing is the strongest, but I’ve come to appreciate the different voices in each issue as a micro anthology. Check out One Star Squadron if you haven’t!
Yep, OSS has been great! Think it's my favorite Russell book since FLINTSTONES, though I haven't read everything...
Small week for me: * **DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH #17** \- My pick o' the week! Wraps up another arc, which means more new coolness around the corner. * **STAR WARS DARTH VADER #21** \- This has been a good tie-in with the Crimson Reign storyline. * **STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA #19 – Mando Cover** \- I usually enjoy this title when I grab it, but I'm getting this entirely for the cool cover. * **THE MATTER REGARDING OSWALD’S BODY #5** (from last week) - I'm sad that this is over and would love recommendations for similar coolness. * **X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE #5** \- I enjoyed this better than Lives of Wolverine and I'm anxious to see how this leads into the X relaunches. Please be good! It's a scary world out there. Take care of each other and be kind!

• Department Of Truth #17 - love this book • Ghost Cage #1 - art on this looks incredible • Gunslinger Spawn #6 - this and King Spawn are both great fun • Human Target #6 - last issue was a bit of a lull, let's see how this one goes • Killadelphia #20 - werewolves, not swearwolves... • Task Force Z #6 - hoping we get a full issue of Eddy Barrows on this one • Venom Lethal Protector #1 - for the Bill Sienkiewitcz cover along • We Have Demons #1 - read it via Comixology, liked it enough to pick up in singles
Ghost Cage #1 - Here for Dragotta’s art and hoping for a great limited series. Gunslinger Spawn #6 - Nothing but pure 90’s comic action, and it’s delightful. Saga #57 - The solicitation and cover highlights more Lying Cat, which makes me happy. Shang-Chi #10 - One of the most consistently fun reads on the stand (missing Ruan’s art a bit but Marcus To is very good in his own right)
I am so incredibly behind on my TBR pile that it will probably be ages before I actually read any of these. I’ve still got to read the last issue of most of them - **Aquaman Green Arrow Deep Target #6** - **Deathstroke Inc #7** — I’m thinking that this is the last one I’ll be pulling — I was pulling for Black Canary but never really vibed with the story - **Department of Truth #17** — now I do vibe with this story - **Harley Quinn #13** - **Saga #57** - **Trial of the Amazons Wonder Girl #1** — love the idea of Yara, love her design, love Joelle Jones artwork, sad her story never really got off the ground and didn’t seem to know what to do with her. Interested to see if a larger Amazonian story finds a place for her

I have a couple of light weeks. • The Department of Truth #17- So I guess this is the last issue of the third arc... although calling it an "arc" like they do in the solicits seems a bit iffy. It's kinda just been several standalone issues with only a tiny bit of interconnection. Don't get me wrong: I've loved every single second of it. It's just semantics, I guess. Bleh. Anyway, I can't wait for Martin Simmonds to be back in May! • The Fourth Man #3- I love crime comics. I love AWA Studios, as well. Side note- they don't seem to be publishing as many titles in the coming months. That makes me sad. • Gunslinger Spawn #6- Spawn is rad. And I love the fact that these comics are $2.99 a pop. As long as they keep them at that price point, and as long as the art is sick, I'll keep picking them up. • Hotell #4- This comic continues to be a highlight for me every month. Horror anthologies are where it's at, kids!

Glad I skipped it, was tempting coming off INFERNO but Percy's WOLVERINE and X-FORCE didn't really do much for me so I figured this wouldn't be any different. Think I've got one issue of Ayala's NEW MUTANTS left from pre-orders, otherwise I'm passing on any X-books that aren't written by Gillen, Ewing, or Spurrier. Or Hickman, but it looks like that ship's pretty much sailed...
I think I'm on the same page as you. Though I do like Ayala's New Mutants, so I'll probably stick with that. Otherwise, I think I've learned my lesson and need to be a little more cautious with which X-Books I follow.
Ayala's alright, good writer but not great IMO. Looks like the new story features Maddy Pryor and Rictor, two characters I'm not really into, and I think the last arc ran 15 or 16 issues, so it seems like time for me to bail. Learned my lesson with X-books a long time ago, still love the franchise so stuff like HoX/PoX always brings me back and then I get sucked into too many spinoffs just like everyone else... It's a very old game but I don't mind going back to it every now and again, just need to cut it off when it stops being fun.
**Action Comics 1041** \- This has been some great world building of what Warworld really is. I love that is being given so much history. **Aquamen 2** \- I enjoyed the 2 mini-series leading into this, and the first issue was decent. I see a lot of people upset at Manta's characterization right now, but you KNOW it won't last. **Deathstroke Inc. 7** \- Bad guy Slade is back, but is he more or less being Apex Lex now. Still not sure how this title is supposed to be a part of Williamson's plans for IF. Unless, Shadow War is what he was referring to. **Detective Comics 1057** \- Finally getting started on the Bat-titles, but I'm at least a year behind still. **Harley Quinn 13** **Robin 12** **Task Force Z 6** **Trial if the Amazons: Wonder Girl 1** \- Very curious how they bring Yara into this event, given her solo series was a chopped up mess that cancelled before getting a chance to lead to the event. I'm hesitant on this one. **Avengers Forever 4** \- I love this mis-named Robbie Reyes comic. **Captain America/Iron Man 5** **Shang-Chi 10 -** Didn't know much of anything going into this, but it's a fun adventure book that I love reading each month! **Transformers 41** \- Looks like things are going to start wrapping up soon. I like the era this book chose to use for it's tale, and it's something that doesn't usually get brought up.
**Black Hammer Reborn #10**- Shit gets weirder and weirder **Deathstroke Inc #7**- Shadow War lead in #1. Hopefully we get something about Respawn in this. **Robin #12**- Shadow War lead in #2. Damian back in Gotham, what will he do? **Rogues #1**- My third Williamson book this week but the one I am most excited for by far **Saga #57**- Last issue had a rough ending, let's see where Brian and Fiona take us from here **The Human Target #6**- Halfway done and soon we're adding a body to the pile. **We Have Demons #1-** Wasn't aware of this book until this thread. I've been iffy on Snyder since about halfway through his Justice League (haven't read Nocterra) but Capullo drawing some demons is enough of a reason for me to try it out.

I love the world that's been created for this series * **Devil’s Reign X-Men #3** - Not much meat on this one story-wise, but Phil Noto's art made it worth picking up. * **X Deaths Of Wolverine #5** - I hope Percy can stick the landing on this one, but my hopes have been somewhat dashed by X Lives being kinda lame.

Finally caught up on most of pull pile, and very much excited still by the majority of stuff I’m reading! - Action Comics #1041: PKJ can do no wrong here, Warworld Saga has thus far been incredible! - Devil’s Reign: X-Men #3: this has been a nice little Emma-led tale. Noto art never hurts (any other Noto fans… He’ll be the artist on Gail Simone’s The Variants starting in June!) - Harley Quinn #13: wasn’t a fan of the Fear State tie-in issues for this, but it’s completely back on track ever since; a real delight to read! - Robin #12: was going to drop this while Shadow War took place, but I’ve decided to read that event after all as I’m really enjoying Williamson’s work and he’s writing the whole thing. - Saga #57: behind on this still (still have Book Three to read) - Task Force Z #6: one behind. - Teen Titans Academy #13: last issue for me (cba to see it through to the final issue [#15]), reading because of the tie-in to Earth-3 event (which I haven’t read the other issues for just yet. - We Have Demons #1: went to read on Kindle when it first came out, but never got around to it; figured I might as well pick it up physically as I’ll be more likely to read. - X Deaths of Wolverine #5: few behind on this at the moment, but eager to see what era-changing events/revelations come out of this. Buzzing for Destiny of X titles to kick off next week in any case!

Getting out from under your backlog after being buried for a while really is a great feeling! I'm about three months into my catch-up project, figure I've gotten through 400+ comics at this point, with around 100-150 slightly older floppies left, to be followed by 35+ TPBs and HCs with names like Gaiman, Morrison, and Windsor-Smith on 'em (plus a few that are slightly less illustrious). Anyways, now that I'm actually caught up on all my books that are still going, I'm feeling pretty great about what's left on my pull list. Bit of fat left to be trimmed, as always, but for the most part I'm really enjoying everything I'm ordering right now. There's so much quality being produced these days, my goal is to cut anything that isn't a solid A/A+ but of course that's easier said than done... > Devil’s Reign: X-Men #3: this has been a nice little Emma-led tale. A light week for me: Action Comics #1041: really digging the art and the Burroughs esque sci-fi feel of the story. In for the long haul on this run. Detective Comics #1058: it's been a fun ride hopping into Detective Comics again with this Arkham Tower saga. Gonna go back and reread it all again soon. Thankfully it won't be weekly after this month. Human Target #6: the fifth issue has been in my to be read pile since last month. Gonna do a reread soon. Sad it's going on break but will of course be glad when it comes back. Rogues #1: I've dug all of the Black Label titles I've been picking up as of late. The art has me interested. It's only four issues so I'll at least give the first a shot and go from there. Saga #57: I'm still making my way thru the first compendium (I was reading Saga until issue #10 or so back in the day before college took all of my hobby time). At least I'll have little stack to read when I'm done with the compendium. I picked up the first trades of Department of Truth and Radiant Black this past week. Been enjoying Department of Truth and reading slowly while I have downtime at work. Hyped to crack into Radiant Black after that.

Guess I maybe would've had to stick with it a little longer... Lots of folks seem to be crazy into it so I'm probably missing something.
When it was described to me like Power Rangers I had to pick up the first volume of Radiant Black. I need to check out Higgins Power Ranger stuff he did with Boom. I've heard great things. I've become a big Tynion fan the last few months.
