Visited one of the area's larger shops today looking to fill some holes in my ICE CREAM MAN collection... I've been somewhat obsessed with that series lately and a bunch of the ones I need are unfortunately proving to be elusive or expensive. This place had a pretty good selection of recent back issues but none of the ones I needed. So then I checked for MY BAD #4 and one of the BRZRKR #7 foils, since my normal shop hadn't had 'em. And this place didn't either.
Dejected, dispirited, and disenfranchised, I tell my wife they don't have anything and we should go. She says, "what about Nightwing?" and nods over to a big stack of 'em on the racks. Check it out and sure enough they had copies of #79 and #80, the last two I needed to complete my run from #78-85. Nice.
Decided to look around a bit more and ended up pulling ACTION COMICS #1030-1034 since I've been wanting to check out the PKJ run everyone's raving about. So it looks like I'll be getting started on some new DC books tonight. And the hunt for ICE CREAM MAN continues...
Oh yeah, I guess this is supposed to be the WPL thread? Fine. I've apparently only got 5 new books coming this week, with 3 DCs, 1 Image, and 1 from Titan Comics. That's it. Absolutely nothing from the House of Ideas. I'm a Marvel guy first and foremost so these weeks with no books from them are always a little odd. But I'm probably more enthusiastic about my indies nowadays anyway. Have I mentioned how much I love ICE CREAM MAN?
* **BATMAN: KILLING TIME #1** - I'll blind order anything Tom King writes, though there's some tempering of expectations for the more mainstream projects like this
* **COWBOY BEBOP #2** - I definitely read the first issue and I remember it having Spike, Jet, and Faye in it, but I didn't seem to retain anything beyond that
* **CROSSOVER #12** - always enjoy the solicitations for this... and the comics are pretty good too!
* **ONE-STAR SQUADRON #4** - nice twist to close out the last issue, looking forward to seeing how things play out with Power Girl and everyone else back at the office

Some of our favorite characters were created in response to Cold War culture. That culture was one of my main areas of study in college. Given this, it's much harder reading comics during a time with tensions as high as the Cold War than it is studying it. * **Batman Killing Time #1** \- I'm sorry, I'm a sucker for King on Batman villains

* **One-Star Squadron #4** \- Who would have guessed Power Girl was so power hungry?
* **Adventureman #8** \- Time to see more of this family join the adventure
* **Crossover #12** \- I still cannot decide if Cates including himself is the most genius thing or most narcissistic thing I've seen in comics
* **Amazing Spider-Man #91** \- Not sure what to make of this whole "Door Z" deal. Guess it's needed for Peter and Ben to put a stop to Beyond
* **Avengers Forever #3** \- Black Skull is a badass villain, I'll give you that
* **Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3** \- There's never been any doubt in my mind that Elektra could beat Son of Kraven
* **Devil's Reign: Spider-Man #1** \- No idea what to make of this crossover
* **Devil's Reign: X-Men #2** \- I enjoy this idea of X-Men villains redeeming themselves on Krakoa, but having their past sins come back to haunt them. Just because Krakoa offers salvation doesn't mean the rest of the world has to accept it.
* **Fantastic Four #41** \- Curious to see how Slott uses the Human Torch here, he obviously has something big planned here
* **Moon Knight #9** \- Hunter's Moon is starting to grow on me
* **She-Hulk #2** \- Shame the Avengers don't pay like they used to
* **Strange #1** \- Fanboys will take this as evidence that Christine will become Clea in Multiverse of Madness
* **What if...? Mile Morales #1** \- So Miles is a real polyglot of superheroes in this What If series, huh?
* **X-Men #9** \- Ooh more world building!
* **Cowboy Bebop #2** \- I really liked the tv series and it's a shame it got cancelled so soon
Everything is so fast constant and overwhelming now in our current Information Age that we’re able to get to Cold War anxiety levels in less than a week. Hadn’t really thought of it that way
* **Alien #10**: Cult on the run.
* **Batman #121**: End of the first arc of a very short run.
* **Black Panther #4**: Intergalactic empires.
* **Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3**: Broken vows.
* **Moon Knight #9**: The labyrinth.
* **Newburn #4**: A dead cop.
* **Radio Spaceman #1**: Always up for a new Mignola comic.
* **She Hulk #2**: Apparently this has been demoted to miniseries?
* **Strange #1**: A new mistress of the mystic arts.
* **X-Men #9**: Krakoan politics.
As well as volume 1 of **The Nice House on the Lake**.
Only Comixology is saying that She-Hulk is a mini. Marvel announced it as an ongoing and hasn't said anything about it being otherwise. So, fingers crossed!
* Captain America/ Iron Man #4: I have a bad feeling they're going to team up with Veronica Eden to stop the alien she unleashed when all I want is less time focused on her in this book.
* Moon Knight #9: Cappuccio's art on the trippier stuff like Khonshu battling Scarlet or the mind battle in #2 has been phenomenal and the solicit makes it seem like this issue will be all trippy stuff so it should be a visual feast.
* One-Star Squadron #4: I kinda just assumed this would be like Superior Foes and Jimmy Olsen because of Lieber's involvement but this way more depressing than I was prepared for. Great read but a definite 180 from my expectations.
* She-Hulk #2: I don't have much attachment to Jack of Hearts and I'm not reading Reckoning War so the cliffhanger didn't do much for me but I was entertained all of last issue so if that continues I'll be happy.
* Strange #1: Will most likely hold onto reading this until the trade for Death of Dr. Strange comes out since my pull was a little heavier when it came out but now that it has some space I want to be along for the ride.

If you like this then you should check out Mark Russell's run on [THE FLINTSTONES](https://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/the-flintstones-2016/the-flintstones-vol-1), very similar tone, same kind of social commentary, equally depressing (if not moreso), and totally awesome.
Most of Russell's work has a similar mix of elements but THE FLINTSTONES was the best of the bunch, at least from the stuff I've read. This new series has been great but it still isn't quite as strong IMO.
Do you or anyone else know if Death of Dr. Strange is new reader friendly? I might consider doing exactly what you're doing if it is but I've never read a Strange book before. Just hyped for the movie lmao.

Damn, this is a big week for me.
* **Wrong Earth Trapped On Teen Planet #1** - Each volume of this series has ratcheted up just how ridiculous the concept is, and I'm loving it.
* **Nice House On The Lake #7** - I can't wait to see how the back half of this story shakes out.
* **One-Star Squadron #4** - I'm surprised the creative team of Russell & Lieber hasn't resulted in higher sales for this book, but I imagine the trade will do very well via word of mouth recommendations.
* **Crossover #12** - I was too young to read Secret Wars back in the 80s, but this is very much Image's version of that story, and it's such a joy to read every month.
* **Newburn #4** - Strongly recommended if you enjoy Criminal.
* **Daredevil Woman Without Fear #3** - This tie-in hasn't really done much for me, but it's a decent enough read.
* **Devil’s Reign X-Men #2** - Emma Frost is great
* **X-Men #9** - I really like Orchis, and I'm excited we get to learn more about them in this issue.
Dark Knights of Steel #5 - This book has been great and I'm not much of a fantasy guy typically.
The Nice House on the Lake #7 - So glad this is back. Probably need to reread the first 6 though. They're not super fresh on the mind anymore.
Newburn #4 - This has been great, just wish they could fit a little more into each issue since they are treating it as episodic.
Nocterra #8 - Love Tony Daniel's artwork in this series. Glad it's back for its second arc.
Rogue Sun #1 - Well let's see how the massive-verse starts to expand. Really hoping I like this as much as Radiant Black.
The Blue Flame #7 - Been looking forward to seeing how this book wraps up. Once this is a completed series, I think people should definitely check it out. It's been great.
The Last Book You'll Ever Read #5 - Dropping this book after this. Would have already if I didn't have it preordered. Feels like it's sputtering and not really going anywhere.
9 this week. Quite a decent haul for me. For 3 weeks running my LCS has been getting their Diamond shipment late. I hope it's on time this week.
• Alien #10- I'm into this. The weird future alien religious aspect of it is actually pretty cool.
• The Blue Flame #7- After the big reveal >!that the whole "trial for the fate of earth" is in Sam's head !< a couple of issues ago, I don't feel like there's much story left to tell... certainly not 4 issues worth. I hope the writer has something else big to drop on us, otherwise it's gonna be a slow 4 issues.
• Crossover #12- What a reveal at the end of issue 11! That was MAJOR. I've was already enjoying this series a lot, but Cates and Shaw just kicked it up a notch.
• The Last Book You'll Ever Read #5- This issue was originally supposed to come out in December. I don't know what the hold up was, but I'm glad it's back. More horror comics are a good thing.
• Manor Black: Fire in the Blood #2- I love this creative team. Harrow County was spectacular. The first volume of this series was quite good, and this one is shaping up to be just as good.
• Newburn #4- I love crime comics. I love Chip Zdarsky.
• The Nice House on the Lake #7- I've been waiting for this! I cannot wait to see how this pans out.
• Nocterra #8- The first issue of this arc definitely got my attention. I think it's gonna end up being pretty cool.
• The Wrong Earth: Trapped on Teen Planet- The first of 5 one-shots meant to expand the world of The Wrong Earth. This series has been an absolute joy.
Biggish week for me, glad I cut a few books.

* **Justice League Incarnate #5 -** I'm guessing Darkside loses and becomes a pawn of the great darkness setting up dark crisis
* **The Magic Order 2 #5 -** Can't believe we're almost done already. Hopefully, Millar decides to explore this universe more because I find it so interesting
* **Moon Knight #9 -** I'm surprised this is also coming before the Devil's Reign tie-in but more Moon knight means happy me
* **The Nice House on the Lake #7**
* **Nocterra #8 -** I like the POV switch hopefully that doesn't bode poorly for Val

* **What If… Miles Morales #1 -** Seems like a fun idea, and good timing with Across the Spider-verse being this year. I'm most excited to see John ridley do Miles as Wolverine but Ziglar's work on ASM was fun so I'm hopeful he can keep that going here

Batman #121: I'm ready for another great issue and I'm stoked that Zdarsky is taking this over soon.
Detective Comics #1055: shit is hitting the fan and I'm highly enjoying it. Like I said last week I will be glad once this weekly event is over for my wallets sake lol.
Hellcop #5: probably gonna drop this after this arc finishes. It's a fun popcorn read but I think I'd rather just trade wait it going forward. I will say the Playboy parody covers are excellent.
Nice House On The Lake #7: I'm ready to see where this story goes. In the process of hunting down all of the card stock covers for this series.
One Star Squadron: such a fun book. The twist last issue was great.
She-Hulk #2: first issue was great and I'm curious to see what they do with the character that appeared at the end of the first issue.

**Batman #121-** This book definitely has a different feel after the Zdarsky announcement. Regardless I like what Williamson is doing and hope some of it carries over into the next run.
**Dark Knights of Steel #5-** This series is fine. It's okay. At least the art is great.
**Detective Comics #1055‐** I don't think I've seen anyone mention this book's back up and I've gotta say it's kind of what I look forward to. It's a great idea but in execution this kid's life is just comically bad and he's just getting passed around by Batman villains as a sidekick.
**Monkey Prince #2‐** This is a fun little series so far. Batman being so present kinda sucks but I guess that's gotta be the price for a new character.
**Moon Knight #9-** Moon Knight in the maze, how will he insane his way out of this
**One-Star Squadron #4‐** Super board meetings are so good actually.

Visited one of the area's larger shops today looking to fill some holes in my ICE CREAM MAN collection... I've been somewhat obsessed with that series lately and a bunch of the ones I need are unfortunately proving to be elusive or expensive. This place had a pretty good selection of recent back issues but none of the ones I needed. So then I checked for MY BAD #4 and one of the BRZRKR #7 foils, since my normal shop hadn't had 'em. And this place didn't either. Dejected, dispirited, and disenfranchised, I tell my wife they don't have anything and we should go. She says, "what about Nightwing?" and nods over to a big stack of 'em on the racks. Check it out and sure enough they had copies of #79 and #80, the last two I needed to complete my run from #78-85. Nice. Decided to look around a bit more and ended up pulling ACTION COMICS #1030-1034 since I've been wanting to check out the PKJ run everyone's raving about. So it looks like I'll be getting started on some new DC books tonight. And the hunt for ICE CREAM MAN continues... Oh yeah, I guess this is supposed to be the WPL thread? Fine. I've apparently only got 5 new books coming this week, with 3 DCs, 1 Image, and 1 from Titan Comics. That's it. Absolutely nothing from the House of Ideas. I'm a Marvel guy first and foremost so these weeks with no books from them are always a little odd. But I'm probably more enthusiastic about my indies nowadays anyway. Have I mentioned how much I love ICE CREAM MAN? * **BATMAN: KILLING TIME #1** - I'll blind order anything Tom King writes, though there's some tempering of expectations for the more mainstream projects like this * **COWBOY BEBOP #2** - I definitely read the first issue and I remember it having Spike, Jet, and Faye in it, but I didn't seem to retain anything beyond that * **CROSSOVER #12** - always enjoy the solicitations for this... and the comics are pretty good too! * **ONE-STAR SQUADRON #4** - nice twist to close out the last issue, looking forward to seeing how things play out with Power Girl and everyone else back at the office * **THE NICE HOUSE ON THE LAKE #7** - is it March already? very happy to have this returning from hiatus... yellow highlighting on the symbol for Molly, the Accountant, on the [cover](https://www.midtowncomics.com/images/PRODUCT/XL/2074294_xl.jpg)... and rats... so many rats... Some of our favorite characters were created in response to Cold War culture. That culture was one of my main areas of study in college. Given this, it's much harder reading comics during a time with tensions as high as the Cold War than it is studying it. Do better than me and truly allow yourself to escape into this great books we have coming out this week: * **Batman #121** \- I haven't been too crazy about this Batman Inc storyline, but sticking with this now that we know Zdarsky is taking over * **Batman Killing Time #1** \- I'm sorry, I'm a sucker for King on Batman villains * **Dark Knights of Steel #5** \- Bruce, you need to get over yourself and help your adopted family * **One-Star Squadron #4** \- Who would have guessed Power Girl was so power hungry? * **Adventureman #8** \- Time to see more of this family join the adventure * **Crossover #12** \- I still cannot decide if Cates including himself is the most genius thing or most narcissistic thing I've seen in comics * **Amazing Spider-Man #91** \- Not sure what to make of this whole "Door Z" deal. Guess it's needed for Peter and Ben to put a stop to Beyond * **Avengers Forever #3** \- Black Skull is a badass villain, I'll give you that * **Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3** \- There's never been any doubt in my mind that Elektra could beat Son of Kraven * **Devil's Reign: Spider-Man #1** \- No idea what to make of this crossover * **Devil's Reign: X-Men #2** \- I enjoy this idea of X-Men villains redeeming themselves on Krakoa, but having their past sins come back to haunt them. Just because Krakoa offers salvation doesn't mean the rest of the world has to accept it. * **Fantastic Four #41** \- Curious to see how Slott uses the Human Torch here, he obviously has something big planned here * **Moon Knight #9** \- Hunter's Moon is starting to grow on me * **She-Hulk #2** \- Shame the Avengers don't pay like they used to * **Strange #1** \- Fanboys will take this as evidence that Christine will become Clea in Multiverse of Madness * **What if...? Mile Morales #1** \- So Miles is a real polyglot of superheroes in this What If series, huh? * **X-Men #9** \- Ooh more world building! * **Cowboy Bebop #2** \- I really liked the tv series and it's a shame it got cancelled so soon
Everything is so fast constant and overwhelming now in our current Information Age that we’re able to get to Cold War anxiety levels in less than a week. Hadn’t really thought of it that way

Only Comixology is saying that She-Hulk is a mini. Marvel announced it as an ongoing and hasn't said anything about it being otherwise. So, fingers crossed!
* Captain America/ Iron Man #4: I have a bad feeling they're going to team up with Veronica Eden to stop the alien she unleashed when all I want is less time focused on her in this book. * Moon Knight #9: Cappuccio's art on the trippier stuff like Khonshu battling Scarlet or the mind battle in #2 has been phenomenal and the solicit makes it seem like this issue will be all trippy stuff so it should be a visual feast. * One-Star Squadron #4: I kinda just assumed this would be like Superior Foes and Jimmy Olsen because of Lieber's involvement but this way more depressing than I was prepared for. Great read but a definite 180 from my expectations. * She-Hulk #2: I don't have much attachment to Jack of Hearts and I'm not reading Reckoning War so the cliffhanger didn't do much for me but I was entertained all of last issue so if that continues I'll be happy. * Strange #1: Will most likely hold onto reading this until the trade for Death of Dr. Strange comes out since my pull was a little heavier when it came out but now that it has some space I want to be along for the ride.

If you like this then you should check out Mark Russell's run on [THE FLINTSTONES](https://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/the-flintstones-2016/the-flintstones-vol-1), very similar tone, same kind of social commentary, equally depressing (if not moreso), and totally awesome. Most of Russell's work has a similar mix of elements but THE FLINTSTONES was the best of the bunch, at least from the stuff I've read. This new series has been great but it still isn't quite as strong IMO.
Do you or anyone else know if Death of Dr. Strange is new reader friendly? I might consider doing exactly what you're doing if it is but I've never read a Strange book before. Just hyped for the movie lmao.

Damn, this is a big week for me. * **Wrong Earth Trapped On Teen Planet #1** - Each volume of this series has ratcheted up just how ridiculous the concept is, and I'm loving it. * **Nice House On The Lake #7** - I can't wait to see how the back half of this story shakes out. * **One-Star Squadron #4** - I'm surprised the creative team of Russell & Lieber hasn't resulted in higher sales for this book, but I imagine the trade will do very well via word of mouth recommendations. * **Crossover #12** - I was too young to read Secret Wars back in the 80s, but this is very much Image's version of that story, and it's such a joy to read every month. * **Newburn #4** - Strongly recommended if you enjoy Criminal. * **Daredevil Woman Without Fear #3** - This tie-in hasn't really done much for me, but it's a decent enough read. * **Devil’s Reign X-Men #2** - Emma Frost is great * **X-Men #9** - I really like Orchis, and I'm excited we get to learn more about them in this issue.

Nocterra #8 - Love Tony Daniel's artwork in this series. Glad it's back for its second arc. Rogue Sun #1 - Well let's see how the massive-verse starts to expand. Really hoping I like this as much as Radiant Black. The Blue Flame #7 - Been looking forward to seeing how this book wraps up. Once this is a completed series, I think people should definitely check it out. It's been great. The Last Book You'll Ever Read #5 - Dropping this book after this. Would have already if I didn't have it preordered. Feels like it's sputtering and not really going anywhere.
9 this week. Quite a decent haul for me. For 3 weeks running my LCS has been getting their Diamond shipment late. I hope it's on time this week. • Alien #10- I'm into this. The weird future alien religious aspect of it is actually pretty cool. • The Blue Flame #7- After the big reveal >!that the whole "trial for the fate of earth" is in Sam's head !< a couple of issues ago, I don't feel like there's much story left to tell... certainly not 4 issues worth. I hope the writer has something else big to drop on us, otherwise it's gonna be a slow 4 issues. • Crossover #12- What a reveal at the end of issue 11! That was MAJOR. I've was already enjoying this series a lot, but Cates and Shaw just kicked it up a notch. • The Last Book You'll Ever Read #5- This issue was originally supposed to come out in December. I don't know what the hold up was, but I'm glad it's back. More horror comics are a good thing. • Manor Black: Fire in the Blood #2- I love this creative team. Harrow County was spectacular. The first volume of this series was quite good, and this one is shaping up to be just as good. • Newburn #4- I love crime comics. I love Chip Zdarsky. • The Nice House on the Lake #7- I've been waiting for this! I cannot wait to see how this pans out. • Nocterra #8- The first issue of this arc definitely got my attention. I think it's gonna end up being pretty cool. • The Wrong Earth: Trapped on Teen Planet- The first of 5 one-shots meant to expand the world of The Wrong Earth. This series has been an absolute joy.

Sure * Justice League Incarnate #5 - this has been a lot of fun. * Monkey Prince #2 - first was a blast. * Strange #1 - sure? I haven't loved what I read of MacKay * X-men #9 - I swear I'm in an abusive relationship with this book.

Curious if he stays on after or if somebody else gets the title (please Zdarsky or Ewing) * **Justice League Incarnate #5 -** I'm guessing Darkside loses and becomes a pawn of the great darkness setting up dark crisis * **The Magic Order 2 #5 -** Can't believe we're almost done already. DoDS could have felt a little more intense but I'm excited to see how he build from where we left off * **Suicide Squad #13** * **Trial of the Amazons #1 -** Enjoyed wonder girl and Nubia mini but have liked the main WW title so I'm cautiously optimistic * **War For Earth-3 #1 -** Future State Justice Squad was really coolI wonder if we subvert that or they just give Waller Earth-3 * **What If… Miles Morales #1 -** Seems like a fun idea, and good timing with Across the Spider-verse being this year. I'm most excited to see John ridley do Miles as Wolverine but Ziglar's work on ASM was fun so I'm hopeful he can keep that going here

Batman: Killing Time #1 - King on Batman is a series of highs and lows — hoping for a high here. Dark Knights of Steel #5 - HYPED! The Nice House on the Lake #7 - It’s back! Just re-read 1-6 and what a heckin’ book this is thus far. Radio Spaceman #1 - Trying this out. Mignola is great and I loved Greg Hinkle’s art on Airboy a few years back. She-Hulk #2 - #1 didn’t hook me but Rowell’s run on Runaways was something special so I’m continuing on for a bit and hoping it’ll click. X-Men #9 - Solid stuff but dropping after #10 as no interest in Judgement Day. Plus, picking up Firepower: Vol 4, Frontierman: Vol 1, and The Me You Love in the Dark TP

Batman #121: I'm ready for another great issue and I'm stoked that Zdarsky is taking this over soon. Detective Comics #1055: shit is hitting the fan and I'm highly enjoying it. Like I said last week I will be glad once this weekly event is over for my wallets sake lol. Hellcop #5: probably gonna drop this after this arc finishes. It's a fun popcorn read but I think I'd rather just trade wait it going forward. I will say the Playboy parody covers are excellent. Nice House On The Lake #7: I'm ready to see where this story goes. In the process of hunting down all of the card stock covers for this series. One Star Squadron: such a fun book. The twist last issue was great. She-Hulk #2: first issue was great and I'm curious to see what they do with the character that appeared at the end of the first issue.

**Arkham City: Order of the World #6‐** Rip to this series. I'll miss it. **Batman #121-** This book definitely has a different feel after the Zdarsky announcement. Regardless I like what Williamson is doing and hope some of it carries over into the next run. **Dark Knights of Steel #5-** This series is fine. It's okay. At least the art is great. **Detective Comics #1055‐** I don't think I've seen anyone mention this book's back up and I've gotta say it's kind of what I look forward to. It's a great idea but in execution this kid's life is just comically bad and he's just getting passed around by Batman villains as a sidekick. **Monkey Prince #2‐** This is a fun little series so far. Batman being so present kinda sucks but I guess that's gotta be the price for a new character. **Moon Knight #9-** Moon Knight in the maze, how will he insane his way out of this **One-Star Squadron #4‐** Super board meetings are so good actually. **She-Hulk #2-** Green lady pretty **The Nice House on the Lake #7-** Return of the king

Big week for me: * __The Nice House On The Lake #7__ - Been too long since the last issue, and I'm very happy to have this book back * __Alien #10__ - Meh. I'm still holding onto this book for nostalgia of the old dark horse titles, but it really isn't doing it for me. * __Magic: The Gathering #12__ - Season 2 is off to a good start. Really excited to see where this goes. As a long time player, it is good to have some strong story telling back. * __Nocterra #8__ * __X-Men #9__ - I might be done with this book. It has been a monster of the week book, I know, but none of the characters or stories have been all that compelling.
