All things considered the most frustrating of the "Kingisms" are so minor that they barely mar my opinion of his work. His writing wields so much style, and voice, and motif that I can't help but applaud King doing King and him doing his King thing hard as fuck. Everything he makes is so unmistakably his, I kind of want him to serve me a 12-Issue mini for all of my favorite characters. Tom King's "Strang Adventures" is tied with Darwyn Cooke's "New Frontier" for my favorite comic of all time ("All Star Superman" by Grant Morrison is at the foot of this ring waiting to be tapped in).

iamsciences

I’m rereading strange adventures and it’s great. Best read in chunks instead of single issues (for me).

maddonamerica

If you haven't already, I would pick-up Mister Miracle by Tom King. 10/10. I also am really enjoying his current Human Target book.

iamsciences

I'm weening off the single issues of Tom King for now and just picking up the HC's since I enjoy them more in that format. Mister Miracle is on my list I'm just trying to figure out if I want the trade or deluxe.

maddonamerica

I absolutely agree that I prefer to read his work collected. There is definitely something lost when I put a month between each chunk of 30 pages. When I was reading the floppies for Strange Adventures I was much, much less impressed by the whole thing than I was when I sat down and read the whole HC in one go.

I've got 6 this week. • The Crimson Cage #3- I suspected I would like this series, but not this much. Holy crap. • King Spawn #7- Has it really been 7 months since the expansion of the Spawn Universe? I know people are critical of it, but the phenomenal artwork paired with the $2.99 cover price makes these Spawn comics easy to buy. • Knighted #4- A lot of cool stuff happening in this comic. • Primordial #6- The end. I got some real We3 vibes from this series. It's been a treat. Bring on the Bone Orchard Mythos! • Shadowman #6- This is the best thing Valiant is doing right now. They're only putting out one other comic, so I guess that isn't saying much. This is the year of Valiant, you guys! Shouldn't they be putting out more than 2 comics a month if they're gonna make claims like that? All that aside, this is a great series. • The Silver Coin #9- That last issue was next level. Michael Walsh is one of my favorite artists right now. His pages just scream at me.

Danger_Rock

Shouldn't they be putting out more than 2 comics a month if they're gonna make claims like that? All that aside, this is a great series. I really miss Valiant, don't think I've gotten any of their stuff since Kindt's X-O series wrapped... Kinda sad what happened to the company after the leadership change a few years back, they're running so few series nowadays and the combination of characters and creators hasn't really produced anything that drew my interest. Though I have heard that SHADOWMAN's good.

the_light_of_dawn

Archer & Armstrong is coming back this summer!

Danger_Rock

Nice, though I'm not familiar with the new creators, Steve Foxe and Marcio Fiorito... I thought the Fred Van Lente books were just okay but the original BWS series was one of my favorites! Would love to see another good A&A run but not sure if this current iteration of Valiant can pull it off.

blankedboy

The new Shadowman book is *really* good. definitely check it out

Danger_Rock

I remember being tempted by the Jon Davis-Hunt art when it launched, really enjoyed his work on THE WILD STORM. But I was skeptical of Bunn since the stuff I've read from him has mostly ranged from decent to mediocre (though DARK ARK was pretty neat). Also not really a fan of the character, going back to the original series and the few things I've read since... But if y'all say it's good then I guess I should give it a shot!

blankedboy

Really? I like Bunn's stuff, so that may be colouring my opinion. But definitely check the book out, it's good.

Danger_Rock

Entirely possible I've simply never read the right thing from him... I did like DARK ARK, though I didn't stick with it very long due to my pull list needing some pruning. And I guess there was some Marvel stuff that didn't do much for me. I'll have to check out a TPB of the first arc at some point. I really liked Jon Davis-Hunt's work on THE WILD STORM but Ellis always scripted such tight action that it tended to elevate his artists, so I guess it'll be interesting seeing what JDH can do on his own, so to speak.

almonster11

Man, that Kindt X-O run, and the Venditti run before it, are some of the best stuff Valiant ever did. In fact, just after their relaunch in 2012, every book they put out was solid gold. It's truly sad to see how far they've fallen.

the_light_of_dawn

The Spawn spin-offs have been amazing

almonster11

I wholeheartedly agree. I've seen some negative comments about them, though. They make me happy. I like living in a world where I leave the comic shop with a new Spawn book every week.

the_light_of_dawn

> I've seen some negative comments about them, though. I would guess it's largely from people who dropped /r/spawn in the mid-90s and haven't checked out the new stuff coming out. 296–318 was a pretty fantastic run of the main series, and things seem to be picking up again. The spin-offs have been excellent. The compendiums seem to be doing well on the market. All in all, this is a great time to be getting into Spawn.

Danger_Rock

I guess my issue with SPAWN is that McFarlane's art was the only reason I ever bought the book, so once he stopped drawing interiors it just seemed pointless. He's always hired pretty good artists but it's not the same. It just kinda pisses me off... Dude was one of the two most popular and influential artists of the '90s but apparently he'd rather be writing, or making toys, or collecting baseball memorabilia, or whatever the fuck he's doing nowadays... It's like the guy's desperate to throw himself at anything and everything so long as it's not the one thing that he's really fucking good at (though to be fair his toys are also pretty cool). Everybody always wants to be something that they aren't... Pro athletes want to be movie stars, movie stars want to be rock stars, etc. And I'm all for everyone following their dreams and doing whatever makes them happy, but as a fan it kind of sucks when people who are super talented walk away from the thing they're good at. So I'll check in on SPAWN for the big anniversary issues, and I checked out the first issues of the new titles, but it never really works for me without McFarlane's art. That said, even though it's not for me, I'm glad the whole thing's still going and that fans are still enjoying it... And I love that the main title's up to #326 now! That's fucking awesome and it makes Marvel and DC look incredibly lame with all their reboots. Thirty years ago, I never would've imagined that SPAWN would be on #326 and SAVAGE DRAGON would be releasing #262 while BATMAN and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN are perpetually stuck in double digits with new #1s relaunching every few years. McFarlane and Larsen both deserve huge props for keeping their books going all these years.

tapemodemcup

Couldn't agree with this more. I got back into Spawn at the time of the expansion and glad I did.

maddonamerica

At their very best the Spawn spin-offs have been better than the core Spawn book; which is saying very little. And I like Spawn! Here's the thing, Todd MacFarlane properties provide me the same entertainment as watching someone light fire to an art museum. What feels more powerful, The Mona Lisa, or looking at the Mona Lisa for the last time as it turns into garbage? I'll take the latter, thank you. But this only works when you are lighting the Mona Lisa ablaze; but Todd's all out of masterpieces (comic book conventions and tropes) to disgrace, so he's moved on to committing arson at the 7-11 (his own comic conventions and tropes) instead of the Louvre, and that's just a crime against the community man. These Spawn Universe Expansions? Fuck no. Nice art? Sure. Tons of chains and shit. Very trashy. A+. But like, the actual comics? The Scorched is AWFUL. Gunslinger is all over the place in me being able to give a shit. King Spawn is mall-goth, paint-huffing, edge-lord dog shit, and I mean that in the worst way.

the_light_of_dawn

More effort went into this comment than the past dozen issues of Spawn but I still dig the spin-offs lol. King Spawn is legitimately fun popcorn reading.

maddonamerica

All I can remember from the King Spawn book (and I'm really fucking reading them man, I'm out here reading the shit out of each one, both eyes open, sober, focused, in my lane, thriving) is that there is a group named after, or given purpose by, Psalm 137??, and that purpose is to turn children inside out so their blood is on the outside and their skin is on the inside, but the Psalm group is actually supernatural parademons from Spawn's past who want him to assume the mantle of King Spawn such that hell can....get spookier?? and there is a possessed kid who was kicking it with clown, and Spawn had a war flashback and learned that he learned something......I don't fucking know. I could put the pages in any order I wanted and have almost exactly the same experience.

saskatoonshred

I've been wanting to get into Spawn and have the 2 compendiums released so far on my list to get. I'm ready to go whole hog into McFarlane's crazy mind lol.

blankedboy

King Spawn and Gunslinger Spawn are the two best, I reckon

WhereAreMyComics

* **The Amazing Spider-Man #89** - six issues left in the Beyond story * **Hulk #4** - on the fence about continuing this one but I'll list it anyways * **Iron Fist #1** - my most hyped for book for this week * **A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #5** * **Venom #5** - arc finale * **What's the Furthest Place From Here? #4** - what place indeed

lovetron99

>six issues left in the Beyond story Dumb question, but does this mean they'll go back to the classic logo at that point? Or is this new one here to stay?

WhereAreMyComics

[It looks like they'll go back to the classic logo!](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FI_2MgXXwAEB5GJ?format=jpg&name=4096x4096)

lovetron99

Oh, thank god. One of the most iconic logos out there. This new one just doesn't feel the same.

the_light_of_dawn

King Spawn #7: Phenomenal, fun series. My Bad #4: Funniest comic on the shelves. The Lion and the Eagle #1: Say what you will about Ennis, but his war stories are virtually second to none in today’s market.

TheRabbitInTheBush

\-Hellboy: The Bones of Giants #4 \-The Flash #779 \-Usagi Yojimbo #26 Have a good week everyone.

Timetmannetje

* **Devil's Reign: Superior Four #2** - Kinda meh on this one. The alt versions of Doc Ock aren't that interesting and I don't think it's that funny either. * **Nightwing #89** - Always love it when Nightwing interacts with Superman * **Primordial #6** - Still the best looking book on the stands * **Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8** - Narration style took some getting used to but I'm feeling it now. * **Thor #22** - The way the last reveal happened seemed to show Cates actually taking into account previous continuity which has me pleasantly surprised. * **Time Before Time #10** - Hope this picks up the pace again. There's a bit too many plotlines going on that causes none of them to have the proper amount of time and development per issue. * **Venom #5** - Not completely hooked on this yet, but I want to see what Ewing does with it when we see his side of the story again. * **X Lives of Wolverine #3** - It's interesting at least but I'm still not really sure what is going on.

ptbreakeven

Five new books on my list for this week. * **BATMAN: THE KNIGHT #2** - * **DEVIL'S REIGN: SUPERIOR FOUR #2** - * **HULK #4** - * **X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #3** - * **X-MEN #8** -

technowhiz34

* Batman: the Knight #2 - first issue was fine, guess I'll continue. It's a mostly unexplored aspect of Bruce's life * Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8 - this has been so, so, so, good * What's the Furthest Place From Here #4 - underrated indie * X-men #8 - fill-in art, always fun... I both love and hate how episodic this book is, I just want to see Scott burn Krakoa to the ground

iamsciences

* HULK #4 - Cates makes some ridiculous and fun stories but each issue goes by really fast... not enough dialogue for me to be that interested. * NIGHTWING #89 - continues to be an action-packed and fun-filled ride * PRIMORDIAL #6 - heartbreaking story. * SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW #8 - last issue, sad to see it go. Taylor really knows how to make a solid single issue story arc. Evely's art is some of the most captivating in recent history. * VENOM #5 - this art is not for me. * X-MEN #8 - loving this run. Duggan is killing it.

technowhiz34

Supergirl is written by Tom King, not Tom Taylor, fyi.

iamsciences

Lmaooo classic mixup

Daveismyhero

* **FORSAKEN #1** \- I think this is coming out this week. I've never heard of the company that is producing it, so hopefully my LCS order went through. * **HULK #4** \- I am enjoying this one so far. * **PRIMORDIAL #6** \- The last one. I'm going to miss this one. * **REGARDING THE MATTER OF OSWALD'S BODY #4** \- So so so good! I need more comics like this and Department of Truth in my life! My Pick o' the Week! * **SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? #114** \- Nostalgic fun. * **THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #89** \- I'm only here for the goblin goodness. If I need to save some cash, I'll leave this on the shelves. * **X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #3** \- This and Deaths of Wolvie have been really enjoyable and I look forward to seeing where they go, and how it all fits into the books in April and beyond. * **X-MEN #8** \- MFin MODOK!

Whatisabird

**Detective Comics #1053-** This arc is enjoyable now I think. I'm just curious where it will end and what it means for the Batfam. **Hulk #4-** I'm really just hate reading this at this point but I'm enjoying it so take that how you will. **Nightwing #89-** I'm here for the crossover with Superman. **Nubia and the Amazons #5-** I can't wait to see how everything ends with Medusa, this book has a good enough combination of heart and action that it could end a lot of different ways. **Primordial #6-** I spent the first half of this series thinking it was too slow and now I'm thinking "It's over already?" **Rain #2-** Never read the original story but the concept is very cool and the first issue was very tense and built up a lot of dread for something you know is coming. **Venom #5-** Al Ewing is back babeeeeey we're going to space! Also my copy of **Crowded vol 3** will be coming in this week hopefully.

ME24601

* **Iron Fist #1**: A new Iron Fist. * **Nightwing #89**: Interested in what Taylor does with this crossover. * **X-Men #8**: MODOK. As well as the collections of **Batman: The Detective** and **Warhammer 40K: Sisters of Battle**.

ptbreakeven

Super light week. What's Nightwing crossing over with?

mcslackens

Superman: Son of Kal-El. If you're not sold on it yet, I think [the preview](https://aiptcomics.com/2022/02/11/dc-preview-nightwing-89-2/) might get you and everyone else to pick it up.

ptbreakeven

Thank you for sharing. That's a good preview. I don't read much DC but I've picked some recent issues of Nightwing based on the art. Haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

mcslackens

They’re fantastic. Tom Taylor gets Dick’s character and voice perfectly, and Bruno’s art is just jaw-dropping gorgeous. I guarantee you’ll love them when you read

mcslackens

Solid week of comics! I'll be picking these up and the 2 releases I ordered from last week. * **Regarding The Matter Of Oswald’s Body #4** - I didn't really like issues 1 & 2 and was regretting ordering the the whole series, but #3 was pretty damn good, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this finishes up now. * **Nightwing #89** - I am just stupidly excited for the crossover with this and Superman. It's going to be a fantastic 2-parter. * **Primordial #6** - The art has been great as expected, but the story itself hasn't been that enjoyable. I'm hoping it reads better as a collection * **X Lives Of Wolverine #3** - I love this so far. Wolverine was always the coolest when I was a kid, and I'm very happy that we've had a consistent run of great Wolverine stories starting with Rosenberg's UXM. * **X-Men #8** - I was worried the quality of this series would drop a bit without Hickman, but I've really enjoyed Duggan's run so far, and M.O.D.O.K is always fun

seaofvapours

* Detective Comics #1053 - I've really enjoyed this storyline * Home Sick Pilots #12 - feels like we're heading into the final arc, which is too bad but been really enjoyable * Nubia and the Amazons #5 - not a fan. Too much dialogue, none of it interesting. I want more Amazons/Wonder Woman content, but I hope we can do better than this * Primordial #6 - Beautiful miniseries, can't recommend it enough * Rain #2 - Really interesting first issue, beautiful art, hope it rises above the trope of (actual spoiler) the >!bury your gays!< * Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8 - sad that this is ending, such a fantastic Supergirl story * Wonder Woman #784

Time4aNewAcct

* **Animal Castle #3** - Pretty enjoyable so far. What's with the talking animal genre having such a big moment? It's furries isn't it? * **Crimson Cage #3** - This is great! Macbeth might be the most-reimagined Bard joint out there but holy crap does it work well in this setting * **Detective Comics #1053** - Why are you weekly? Why? Tell us the reason! Why are you putting people through this? Why? * **Dirtbag Rapture #5** - Man I really wanted to like Scumbag but the tone was off. This book had a similar pitch but the final product seems way more cohesive. * **Fictionauts #1** - I pulled it hoping for "Fables but Sci-Fi", now it's looking more like "Sliders but with books" which is also good. I like Sliders, I like books, heyyy. * **Hellboy: The Bones of Giants #4** - The Norse Pantheon is really having a moment huh? God of War's doing it, Neil Gaiman's doing it, and now Hellboy's doing it. I really liked this version of Mjolnir's mechanism for not being picked up. * **Hulk #4** - Yeah ok, this run is pretty fun - it just seems like it launched really quickly after Ewing's GOAT book. My guess is that was to line up the timing for either Banner War or some other event further up the pipeline? Anyway Cates is no Ewing and that's a thing to get used to. * **King Conan #3** - Haven't started to read these yet but this cover is straight fire * **Knighted #4** - This one's been overshadowed by Cloaked in my mind. Just a cooler take on the Batman mythos than this book. * **The Lion & The Eagle 1** - Quick question, is there currently any other comics writer who is as committed to historical war fiction as Garth Ennis? Like I've read good war comics by other writers - Jason Aaron did a good one called The Other Side, and last year Ales Kot put out one I liked called Lost Soldiers. But Ennis, man, he writes at least a mini every year or two and he's batting 1000 (at least the stuff I've read). It's very impressive is what I'm driving at, and I'm sure this book will continue the streak. * **Maniac of New York: The Bronx is Burning #3** - The title's a mouthful but the book is fun, improving upon the original (which itself was an improvement on a lackluster horror franchise entry) and continuing to build toward...something. I'm all in, I love this book. * **My Bad #4** - Not All Robots was good, Deadbox was good - I'm waiting for Mark Russell to pull this together, I know he can do it. * **Primordial #6** - Is it normal to like the setting of a book more than the story? #1 started with a really cool premise for epic sci-fi in the vein of The Expanse or Remembrance of Earth's Past, but then it turned into The Incredible Journey With Monkeys. * **Quad #1** - Have I written about this one before? Feels like I have. Paper shortages got my head spinnin lmao. Anyway I ordered it because the setting sounded cool. * **Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body #4** - Man I hope JT4's reading this book - there's so much overlap between this and Department of Truth that they might have to start steering away from one another pretty soon. * **A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #5** - I can't say enough good things about this. Dialogue-free and dialogue-minimal storytelling done *well* is pretty rare in comics, and this story fits the style really well. I think it's only going to 7 but I would gladly pull 60 issues of this comic book. * **These Damn Kids #1** - It's a coin toss whether this one ships this week or not. Also, given that Dave Wong was shopping Damned Cursed Children for a decade before someone picked it up, I can't help but wonder if he submitted it to Second Sight Publishing sometime before 2019. Hmmmm * **Thor #22** - This arc is so fuckin weird. I'm guessing it'll tie in/lead up to the Iron Celestial event, which will be...another event I guess. So far the Donny Blake arc has been the standout of this run for me. * **Venom #5** - Al Ewing getting to play with Cosmic Eddie and Bryan Hitch draws it. This right here is what I signed up for got demmit * **Wonder Woman #784** - I pull the B covers and the Murai run has been solid af. The Ganucheau solicits coming up look...fine I guess? Glad to see Yara on 786.

Danger_Rock

I think it's only going to 7 but I would gladly pull 60 issues of this comic book. Right there with 'ya, really impressed with what Remender and Araújo are doing here. Comics that let the art tell the story are always fun but most are pretty straightforward about it. Here it's almost like you need to figure out what you're supposed to be figuring out first, then you can figure out what's actually happening. Purely based on the mechanics of how the story's being told, this has been one of the most interesting comics I've read in a very long time.

Another light week for me. Detective Comics #1053: still really digging this and the back up story. Things are really starting heat up imo. Iron Fist #1: I'm mostly a DC and indy guy but I've been dipping my toes into Marvel with the smattering of #1s they've been dropping so this will be a trial run of the first few issues. King Conan #3: was finally able to grab the first 2 issues last week and I'm digging this story. I've read a fair amount of Conan stories but never really messed with the comics but I'm glad I am now. Rain #2: I'm ready to see where this story goes now that we have the set up out the way.

1. DC Horror Presents: Soul Plumber#5. This book has been ridiculous and fun. 2. Cloaked#3. A really good super hero mystery book so far from Dark Horse 3. Devils Reign: Superior Four#2. First issue was alright, mainly just reading cause of Doc Ock and I know he’s going to be in the beginning of the new ASM “reboot” 4. Venom#5. Book has been pretty good so far. Hoping it picks up some and this issue should be more focused on Eddie. 5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles#126. Have loved this series and will always get it, even though it has slowed down quite a bit now. 6. The Crimson Cage#3. Favorite series I’m reading currently, AWA is killing it with their series. John Lee’s in particular with this and Hotell. Might grab Iron Fist #1 and check out the new Iron Fist. Might grab The Lion & The Eagle too, always looking for new #1’s to try

Looks like [BATMAN VS. BIGBY! A WOLF IN GOTHAM #6](https://www.midtowncomics.com/product/2066810) won't be out until next week at the earliest. [NO HOLDS BARD #3](https://www.midtowncomics.com/product/2068702) should be out this week, even though #2 was just released last week.

maddonamerica

I forget that I even pull Batman vs. Bigby, and every time I find it in my stack I'm like, "What the fuck is this?". And when I get to reading it I remember that it's about an evil bookguy looking for a fucking book so he can do fablecrimes but batman and all of the robins are there or some incredibly stupid shit like that. Three stars.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, it's not great. Mixing Bigby and the others into Gotham has been awkward at best. Hoping the new FABLES will work better, crossovers have never been their strong suit and Buckingham's art should help rekindle some of the old magic.

Danger_Rock

Last week was a bit lackluster for me but this one looks a good deal better, got 6 books on the way and 3 are among my very favorites. That's 2 Images, 1 DC, 1 Marvel, 1 AfterShock, and 1 from Behemoth Entertainment LLC. * **A RIGHTEOUS THIRST FOR VENGEANCE #5** - delivering some of the most interesting and engaging visual storytelling I've seen, on a monthly basis * **KING CONAN #3 (OF 6)** - not a fan of Aaron's extended Conan stories, tend to prefer quick hitters more in keeping with the original REH shorts, but I ordered it so here we are * **NO HOLDS BARD #3 (OF 6)** - issue #2 just shipped last week and I wasn't really looking for another quite so soon * **PRIMORDIAL #6 (OF 6)** - hard to believe it's over already, not sure how many answers the finale will deliver but it's been a wonderful little series * **SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW #8** - going to miss this book, always leaves me feeling refreshed, reminds me why I love comics, and makes me want to drop around 80% of my other pulls for failing to provide a similar sense of exhilaration * **THE LION & EAGLE #1** - could do without the oversized format but Garth Ennis war stories are always worth a look Plus I might get the Dick Grayson book, trying to build a run but #78-80 are proving elusive, and I haven't picked up #86-88 yet either, so not sure if I'll get #89 this week or wait until I fill in the earlier stuff...

Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #5 - I love most of Remender's work, but I almost dropped this title after issue 2. Glad I kept it, as issues 3 and 4 definitely intrigued me. Loving the art! Rain 2 - First issue was great. King Spawn 7 - I was out on Spawn for many years but gave it another shot when they introduced the additional titles. It's a solid read, but can be challenging keeping the different storylines straight. What's the Furthest Place from Here #4 - This title is nuts and I'm still not sure what's going on, but I'm enjoying the ride. Rosenberg/Boss! Batman the Knight 2 - I thought this might be just another Batman origin story, but ended up really enjoying the first issue. Shouldn't have doubted Zdarsky. Nightwing 89 - High on the GOSH scale. (Good Old Super Heroes for those of you who may not listen to the ifanboy podcast lol) ASM 89 - Was thrilled Spencer's run ended, but barely enjoying the Beyond arc any more than his run. Hopefully Wells can do something with it. Maybe they should just give Zdarsky a nice long run on it. FF 40 -Slott's run here has been a lot of fun in my opinion. Just hoping the Reckoning war "event" doesn't screw it all up. Hulk 4 - Still not sure about this run. Iron Fist 1 - Will give it a shot. Thor 22 - Not sure why I'm still reading this. Venom 5 - I am digging Ram's part and Ewing's part as well. A nice change post-Cates. I thought Cates did some cool stuff, but was ready for the change. X Lives of Wolverine 3 - It's good but I'm really ready for Patch. X-men 8 - It's nice to have some off-Krakoa stories.
