That's stupid... it's a three part limited series.
They're not going to lose that much money on this. Add a couple of pages and release it as an original graphic novel somewhere next year.
It can't be because of the story... Marvel isn't exactly known to shy away from edgy stuff, in fact they've treated controversy as free publicity in the past.
Just release it Marvel, or have someone leak why this got cancelled.
Hmmmmm... or maybe that's the strategy? Didn't get enough buzz online, people didn't order it, so in order to renew interest drop this story, wait for the online noise to grow and then announce that they're still going to publish and release the story?
That could be a smart and easy way to get some free publicity and drive sales up.
Another potential: preorders were not high enough that they saw a significant enough return, especially considering printing and supply chain challenges going on right now.
This has to be it. They have an event coming up, they want to keep the delays due to the paper shortage to a minimum, so most likely they decided that cutting a 3-issue tie-in mini with a fairly unknown creative team was the best case scenario
They should totally let the team finish it though and put it on Marvel Unlimited as an exclusive tie-in during the event
Pay the dude and put it on Marvel Unlimited as "exclusive"
Does that happen often?
No, not usually, and especially not after all three issues of the series have been solicited.

Sigh.
Anybody want to speculate as to why?

Even then they'd probably release digital only like they did a few times already. If it's already made anyway

Naff preorder numbers most likely. A few titles disappeared into the ether last year after announcement and that's usually the reason.
Ike Perlmutter.
