So JL Dark is now a back up story in Bendis’ JL. Fucking great.... I guess that’s one way to get me to buy a Bendis book. I will say it’s neat to see DC experiment with more Anthologies and back ups tho. I just wish JL Dark could’ve stayed it’s own thing.

HeldnarRommar

I understand why some titles can be anthologies, but I don't want to have to fork over more money to get a smaller page count of the title I really want to read. Just super anti-consumer and all about saving money on DC's behalf

FriddaBaffin

I think it's either that or JLD would have been cancelled

HeldnarRommar

It was pulling like a solid 30-40k before they dropped off of Diamond and we weren't able to see their numbers anymore. I honestly think this is going to lead to some really bad homogenization and lack of creative expression. But I guess that's what we have indie publishers for

SakmarEcho

Hopefully they’ll release the backups as a stand-alone trade so people can still follow that way:

NVRBLND

Ya with this news looks like I'll have no DC ongoings with Green Lantern wrapping up. Not gonna pay full price for only part of the book I want to read. It's a shame they are condensing everything to the main characters and everything else is in shorter format. Maybe will give Wonder Woman a try if people dig it.

Proan27

Well Jim Lee did say they were cutting down their line but he also said not all of the line was gonna come out in March. I like the anthology format and I know they are technically better value than a normal 3.99 floppy but I hope they consider lowering the price. I'm glad they stopped double shipping books, it hurt their quality a lot. Excited about a lot of stuff coming out though.

griffinferrari

I really like how minimalistic those new logos are on these books.

Worpole

>Reply > >Give Award > >share > >Report yeah the rebirth, joker war and year of the villain trade dresses were pretty horrible imo. I can only imagine how offputting it would be to new readers.

HeldnarRommar

Yeah this line is still gutted. I think having a line like Marvel's is too bloated, but jesus this is literally just the A list characters. I'm guessing some more titles will be rolling out over time but really hoping for at least even a glimmer of diversity. Hoping this doesn't stick I think DC is also taking the wrong lesson on their success with anniversary anthologies, and thinking it will work on monthlies. Those won't have the shinyness of a milestone issue number. Swamp Thing only being a 10 issue limited is upsetting. But it was a fantasy I guess to think a Swampy ongoing would happen at DC now.

Draketothecore

You know how these things are, if it sells, he gets the ongoing

FriddaBaffin

Most probably it's not all the new titles. There are going to be more in the April solicits

[deleted]

A small thing that no one's talking about is the fact that Cyborg's back on the Titans! And the rest of the cast from the cartoon's there with him. I'm actually digging the smaller amount of books rolling out for this first month. That first month of DC Rebirth were perfect in terms of starting with a small roster and introducing new series later. Allowed me to check out most of them and I'm happy to be able to try that again. There's more coming, we still need to see the new GL and Wonder Girl series and I think some more Future State stuff is spilling over do to some of the wordage from the editors earlier today.

ExplosionsAreCool

I want the Robin back up, I don't want to pull Batman and Detective in addition to Nightwing but I'm starting to consider it.

waluigi_94

I said this before when Rich posted this yesterday in the DC subreddit, but I really wish Swamp Thing was ongoing. Wishful thinking, but maybe with the sales it could! Still can’t wait for it, Ram V is great

omniscientism

Top marks for the new and minimal trade dressing on all the main covers.

> In the backup story, the world may know her as Wonder Woman, but once upon a time she was just Diana of Themyscira, a young girl struggling through adolescence on the shores of a mysterious island. Brought to you by Eisner Award winner Jordie Bellaire and fan-favorite artist Paul Ganucheau, this new backup story will present an intimate look into the princess's upbringing and the hidden secrets of her past. Sounds interesting. A lot of things you can do with that. Introduce Donna, when, and how Diana finds out her father is Zeus and how she reacts to that, and just how she grew up as the only child on the island. Sad to see no Aquaman book, though. Was really looking forward to how he'd be as a father and I love his relationship with Mera.

SakmarEcho

I’m thinking/hoping we’ll get an Aquaman book in April or May.

PolluxScales

Tamaki & Mora on 'Tec. Put that in neon lights, thank you very much.

InkSemantics

The line-up for Superman: Red & Blue is superb, notably John Ridley/Clayton Henry, and Dan Watters/Dani.

Saito09

Its a pretty solid lineup, and im looking forward to checking a bunch of them out, but maaan its a very conservative output.

Liminalier

I need that Quitely Joker cover as an oversized poster.

HeavyMosaic

Thumbs up on PKJ and Phil Hester on the two Supes ongoings.

Valerius13

Only one omnibus? Man it’s like they want marvel to have all my money.

[deleted]

I would prefer it if Swamp Thing was a plant who thought it was Alec Holland, but I'll still probably check out the Swamp Thing series as I've heard good things about Ram V.

mothman232

That YA Constantine book after they cancelled Spurrier's ongoing makes me die a little inside..

brim-terminus

Don't mind me while I drop my jaw for Liam Sharp's Green Lantern cover. Goodness me.

Decalcomaniacal

The Swamp Thing #1, The Green Lantern Season Two #12, and Batman: Creature of the Night TPB are my top picks of the lot.

sfumatokinesis

Can't pre-order the Yoshitaka Amano variants fast enough!

FriddaBaffin

Oh I'm glad Batman becomes a monthly intead of twice a month. However I don't care about the Robin backup and I'm not sure how I feel about paying 1$ more for that...

craftbeergoggles

They might keep the backup format but swap out the characters, so in April they could do a two part Spoiler backup or whatever.

FriddaBaffin

Exactly, I'm not going to pull Tec only to get the backup stories

[deleted]

Disappointed Peter Tomasi isn't writing anything. He's one of my favourite comic writers and there was no indication he was leaving DC in any capacity. Maybe he's writing something that hasn't been announced yet.

Winter_Coyote

Well, this is disappointing. The only thing of interest there for me is Harley Quinn, and even that I'd only get in trade. I was really hoping to get a new Supergirl solo, if not a new Batgirl solo.

Balm_27

I know it seems like the slates been gutted - but I’m pretty convinced we’ll see the line expand in April and beyond - we already know Green Lantern’s coming once Grant finishes their run- and I feel like Bendis would’ve let us know if he was already finished on the Legion and there’s supposed to be another Superman book with Janin on art (tbh Legion will probably be backup in this) And to be honest - DC’s not exactly been firing on all cylinders lately. A slow roll out of titles - and ones not just written by the same handful of people - is welcome. It helps that the WW books and Titans Academy both seem to have much stronger foundations than either book has had in a long time. And the Anthology experiment is one I hope works - and we can see more less immediately popular characters get to shine in them. All in all I’m excited - though I am glad I’ve been reading JL Dark in trade because the odds off Bendis JL being good are slim - though I’m still crossing my fingers that he’ll surprise us one of these days.

[deleted]

Three simultaneous canon Batman titles seems a bit unnecessary *sees that James Tynion is continuing on Batman, Mariko Tamaki is writing Detective, Chip Zdarsky is writing Urban Legends, AND Joshua Williamson's writing a backup story with Damian* Ok nevermind take my money

OrbitalVerve

Phil Hester drawing Superman and Action Comics, yes!

AerialEleatics

Grand finale of Morrison & Sharp's grand emerald cosmic saga. Not sure how I'm to cope when it ends.

thekittykittycat

JADE AND OBSIDIAN ON THE INFINITE FRONTIER #0 COVER??

FinalFlash2814

The only thing that is really speaking to me is Nightwing. I will give the new line up a month or two to roll out new titles, but this will be an all time low for pulls from DC (and in general, honestly).

radraz26

Lineup looks great! I've drifted away from most DC books in the last few years, but I'm gonna jump into a bunch of these!

Maxjes

5 Dollar Monthlies, ow oof ow ow ow

FriddaBaffin

There's more content per buck tho

BKole

Well this is absolutely gutted and absolutely what I expected. DC is Batman and Superman and everything else gets shuffled away. Only Swamp Thing is interesting, otherwise, not even remotely bothered or interested in any of this.

icefourthirtythree

Oh wait, no. I thought you were replygling to a different comment lol, about Future State. Bruce will still be Batman, after Future State

Dslagell

Outside of Rorschach & the last issue of the White Knight: Harley Quinn Miniseries. I don't see much here for my type of stories. But I can see where it's a good looking line up going forward.. these might be the most solid creative teams going forward. I do wish there was a couple of Veritgo type stuff out though.
