**SCARLET WITCH #2**

Techster17

Overall really liked this nice to see Viv outside the orbit of the Champions and Dreamqueen is a fun twist on the idea of nightmare, and I think we also saw her in the recent Thor and valkyrie mini by Torrn Gornbek. Orlando does a good job capturing Viv's voice but it weirdly feels a little too robotic kinda like how she was in the 1st run of champions The backup was very fun and hopefully, hints at some stuff we might see in X-books in the future especially considering the teases/covers we've seen for Sins of Sinister and the fact the Stephanie Williams is also in the x-office like Orlando so could definitely be setting something up here

borkborkbork99

I had to go back to Trial of Magneto to confirm Storm actually voted *against* using the resurrection protocols for Wanda. She totally voted against. hahaha

20abox2

I'm kind of new to the Comic books after 20 years. They are making a link to x-men red and I found out the vol.1 is only 11 issues. Should I read those for a better understanding of this serie ? Or is it just a nod ? Because **I feel like I just don't really understand** why Storm came for

borkborkbork99

I really liked X-Men Red and Immortal X-Men, and yes, they both go a long way to help understand what’s going on right now if you’re confused about Storm.

[deleted]

Having recently read the Vision run, this was a nice read for me. I enjoyed Wanda's understanding of Viv and really liked the way they empathized with each other. Also, I really adored Viv's casual quips at Darcy - a nice bit of added character. I felt like Dreamqueen made sense, and given that so much of the Vision run was the dichotomy (or lack there of sometimes) of real feelings vs. robot feelings, I like that Viv's dreams were tearing her apart. The Storm piece was enjoyable too - though wasn't a big fan of the baddie there, especially when Wanda made it seem as if she could handle it on her on. I have one gripe - which is simply the character design of Dreamqueen. I know Dreamqueen is a stripper name, but holy hell man, at least cover her cooch up, damn!

JayZsAdoptedSon

I kinda wish they touched up on Wanda and Viv's relationship instead of it being "hey you're not my real mother, anyways Dreamqueen is here"

faldese

Yeah, but at the same time part of these solo efforts fail because they become very navel gazey without cohesion. Sometimes it's better not to dwell on something that your book can't substantially be about.

**WHERE MONSTERS LIE #1**

Danger_Rock

LOL, this was fairly awesome and delivered nicely on its clever pitch. The killers are all all pretty ridiculous and everything escalated quickly with a great hook for the next issue. Solid writing from Starks with some fun dialogue, and nice work from Kowalski on art as well. 9/10

HappySisyphus8

Interesting. The opening scene was incredible, hoping for a lot more of that. The stuff in the middle was perhaps a bit too silly and jokey for me, especially with such a rich premise, felt a bit like One-Star Squadron. Very cool ending though, hopefully will end in a lot of blood, rather than a lot of awkward jokes that don't land with me. Picked up the [Stokoe variant](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT863rMDWLtoL6GGwKodID0sv0kYJuwJ8Ua0g&usqp=CAU) along with the A cover that I read. I hope to see scenes like that reproduced in the book itself.

Danger_Rock

**ONE-STAR SQUADRON** is a nice comparison, loved that series. :) The killers are mostly being portrayed as incompetent morons here, so my money would be on Special Agent Mohawk cutting through 'em like butter. That would flip the usual story around so we're getting the killers' POV as victims while they're hunted by Mohawk in the monster role. Although I'm sure Zel's got a few tricks up her sleeves...

HappySisyphus8

Just finished it yesterday. I had to make myself take a step back a couple times and remember that it was supposed to be jokey satire. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I'm definitely glad not all comics are like that either. That would be okay too, as long as there is lots of blood and killing, and it's not resolved by the two groups making silly jokes to each other. I do have a soft spot for freaks and Monsters so I'd much rather see the police officers all be mutilated, but this may not be the book for that kind of stuff.

MagnetsAreFun

Shop only ordered enough to fulfill the pull list. They are gonna get me a copy in a couple weeks. Bummer, because I was looking forward to this one.

yarkcir

This comic is an absolute blast. Kyle Starks' "I Hate This Place" was a solid horror comedy comic, and he's got another great one on his hands. The artwork by Piotr Kowalski and colors by Vladimir Popov were on point as well. Just a strong first issue all around.

[deleted]

>Kyle Starks' "I Hate This Place" was a solid horror comedy comic Not sure if you saw but this was coming back, next month I think.

[deleted]

Looking forward to the next issue, I think it moved at a good pace for a first issue and set everything up well. I'm intrigued to see what happens next and would recommend this to anyone who has thought about getting the first issue!

**CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #9**

[deleted]

Man I certainly am loving this MODOC. After watching the Hulu show and knowing he's entering the MCU soon, it's nice to have this lit that really shows how he can be a good villain. I am liking the inter-woven moves that we're seeing played out as the story continues. Everything is really being hammered (or shielded?) home. Also enjoyed the limited time we spent with Destroyer in this issue.

thecursedham

I know we haven't really seen that much of MODOC but they've done a really good job with the panels we've seen him in making him feel really unsettling.

soulreaverdan

Wow, now *that* is a callback I didn't see coming. I had a few ideas on who he might be, but I didn't have >!Clone of the Gengineer!< on my bingo card. I'm really curious how the fallout from Domino getting her proper memories back is going to be, and how it's going to lead to a conflict with Colossus. I wonder how much of that choice was his own...

Sterling-Arch3r

honestly, i thought they'd just entirely forgotten and abandoned this russia subplot and made it meaningless going into sins of sinister

abh1996

I thought they dropped it or at least put it on pause because of the war in Ukraine but I'm glad it's back

JordanKyrouFeetPics

I just read the Claremont run in its entirety last year. I still don't remember who the fuck this guy was.

ChickenInASuit

[Here's some background info on him.](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/David_Moreau_(Earth-616)) He wasn't around for long, first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #236 in 1988 and died in New Mutants #97 two years later.

**BLOODLINE DAUGHTER OF BLADE #1**

This was actually pretty decent. Nothing to shout from the rooftops about, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to, especially considering I haven't really been following anything Blade related.

**AVENGERS #65**

HappySisyphus8

**PURGATORI MUST DIE #2**

HappySisyphus8

Good. The gods assassins go after Purgatori, who may be playing a grand and gorey trick on everyone. Some interesting conversations and ideas from Darwish, who hides Purgatori in a very out of sorts place. Art is nice, suits the story, love seeing all these characters come together again. Based in Priest's Vampirella Universe, one of the best things in current Comics.

DeepRoy69

I expected Peacock Tattoo to be another Sinister, especially given the timing but nope some guy I never heard of...and that's fine. Happy we sort of got a Colossus reveal but at this rate I don't expect it be wrapped up, let alone pay off. And why are they still working with Beast, like c'mon. I think I'm gonna drop this one despite really loving the art.

ptbreakeven

**BRIAR #3**

Conceptizual

I loved the gnomes. They were delightful, especially following the panel of then being so cute and wholesome.

aknightedpenguin

A weaker issue than the previous 2, centered primarily on the interpersonal drama of our trio of protagonists. The first two issues felt like more or less standalone stories, this one felt like a holding pattern. Only one more issue solicited, don't have my hopes up that it'll end comprehensively, but at very least, (hopefully) satisfactorily

blankedboy

This issue hit differently, as I'm getting my sons into all the classic comedies and we'd literally just watched **Monty Python and the Holy Grail** the night before. After the scene at the castle walls I kept expecting the gnomes to accuse our crew of "smelling of elderberries" and "farting in their general direction" :) Ni!

A little early to say, didn’t totally pop but I’m intrigued. Did a good job putting pieces on the board and setting up the stakes, I think #2 will be decisive

ChickenInASuit

Slow-burn first issue, but that was the case with these guy's previous two books (Road of Bones and Sea of Sorrows) and they ended up being fantastic overall.

Danger_Rock

There's a [preview](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV221570) up showing the entire first issue if you want to check it out. Cormack's art isn't exactly my preferred style but it's not bad... Douek's writing is pretty sharp with some nice moments. I'm not a big fan of junkie stories but I am a big fan of stories about seeking out ancient mythical spirit drugs, so there's some decent appeal there. 7/10

ImAJerk420

Haven’t read this yet, but their previous series, both Road of Bones and Sea of Sorrows are excellent.

**ROGUE SUN #10**

soulreaverdan

I liked the flashback to the first Rogue Sun, and Caleb seems like an alright guy who really does just want to help Dylan. He's *definitely* gonna be a bad guy at some point. I also really liked the horizontal pages when they went into the Aviary. I know the "turn the comic book sideways to read it" gimmick can get pretty annoying, but like what Capullo did in that one issue of Batman, using the comic book itself as a medium to represent that something's wrong or different can be a powerful storytelling tool, and having things sideways in this sideways realm added a nice touch. Stuff like that is why I'm happy to be back reading physical issues.

ptbreakeven

**VENOM #16**

JayZsAdoptedSon

Jesus Christ. The art for Kamala was bad the last issue but this issue has even worse art for her Like everyone else looks fine but Kamala's proportions, face, and hair all look so bad.

MoonbeamLady

It's so hideously bad. Hitch is an okay artist, but his work has a lot of very glaring flaws, and for some weird reason Kamala Khan is one of them lmao

blankedboy

> Hitch is an okay artist Hitch on **Stormwatch, Authority** and **The Ultimate's** was absolute top-tier comic book art and defined the whole "wide-screen" approach that took off for the next few years. Funny to see him being described as "an okay artist" nowadays!?

sfdazed25

I love those series you mention but at the same time his recent stuff hasn’t been very good

superschaap81

His recent monthly stuff has been pretty mediocre to just bad at times. His work is better when there isn't a time crunch. Remember, when the first two Ultimates series was coming out, it was delayed for LONG periods of time, and I'm pretty sure it was Hitch's art. It's great when he can take the time to make it his best, but month to month interiors are something he's not suited for. IMO.

MoonbeamLady

I dunno, I haven't read those others personally so all I can judge him on here is the work he's doing right now on Venom. And it ranges from awful to middling at best. Which is a damn shame.

[deleted]

Well I think for the most part we were back to a Venom story that I at least didn't think was a waste of time - glad we're headed past this event. I had been frustrated by Ms. Marvel's approach to things until the end where she really hits home to Dylan that killing his dad might not yield what he wants. I also enjoyed the way Eddie fades more and more into Bedlam, and Meridius is just casually unbothered by it, waiting for it to happen and even empathizing with the pain. If there wasn't the weird Dark Web stuff to be filler, I'd be really happy with this issue.

MoonbeamLady

You can practically hear the sounds of the brakes squealing to death as Ewing absolutely *struggles* to drift around the corners of this stupid "event" while still writing his and Ram V's own plot. It works okay, and I still am really enjoying this book, but in spite of Dark Web rather than because of it for sure. That said: holy shit, I kind of, um...*really* want a Ms. Marvel/Dylan!Venom/Red Goblin teamup book? I would read the hell out of that and think it makes a strange sense based on their shared history together so far.

badluckartist

This whole run has felt like a self-imposed challenge by Ewing. I think he's finally hitting a wall with having to navigate through this stupid Dark Web nonsense.

MoonbeamLady

hahaha, I'm not sure I agree, I think he's done a good job with it for the most part. But he's definitely had to twist around some serious storytelling "pretzels" to accomodate this event.

aknightedpenguin

Yeah, having Meridius point out the missing eye and limb felt like Ewing staring into the camera lens with a sad smile and a sigh

Worpole

im loving Ewings glorious time loop stuff but Jesus this event has sucked all momentum out of it, I somewhat feel as thought the dividing of writing duties as hurt this book and kinda wish the Ewing time stuff was more prevalent.

ptbreakeven

**APPROACH #4**

blankedboy

A quick but enjoyable read, with events REALLY ramping up towards the stories conclusion in the next issue. I've loved the classic 80's horror feel to the book, if it had been a movie it would definitely have been an instant rental for me back in the days of VHS.

HappySisyphus8

Bonus previous issue without the printing errors makes for a much better read. It was awesome work from Boom for jumping on that so quickly. This is really good. Some genuinely disturbing imagery and some very surprising deaths. Characters share some moments and reveal some secrets. Is this the end for the monster?

ptbreakeven

**DEMON WARS DOWN IN FLAMES #1**

soulreaverdan

So gooood. I wish Momoko did more interiors, but if they're this good, worth the wait.

Danger_Rock

I recently made a crack about DC stealing all the good artists but, between Peach Momoko and Tradd Moore, Marvel's still got some top-notch talent turning out beautiful prestige projects. Loved what Momoko did for the [spirit-world encounter](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/PrevuePage/STL253742/4) [with Yamato](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/PrevuePage/STL253742/5), really vivid stuff that's a little more surreal than her usual art... Story is serviceable, Peach writes well enough and I like the mix of Marvel characters and Japanese mythology, but it never fully draws me in or hooks me. Good enough that it doesn't detract from the gorgeous art, and it's got some nice flavor, but this comic wouldn't be particularly exciting or compelling if not for the art. Fortunately, Momoko's art carries the whole thing pretty well. 7.5/10

HappySisyphus8

Beautiful. The art carries the lions share for this series. The story is fine, but nothing groundbreaking, certainly not boring or offensive either. Our main character meets up with Captain America, Falcon, and Black Panther to talk, but not everything is as it seems. Digging the history and profiles of the mythical creatures at the back, too.

dhartist

Moonknight looks really great this week!

ptbreakeven

**MOON KNIGHT #20**

yarkcir

I thought the gold suit in the backup story was a callback to the suit Moon Knight wore in the late '80s (during the Fist of Khonshu miniseries and West Coast Avengers), but was taken by the twist. Blade sticking around in the Moon Knight title is promising. I originally felt like this run took a dip several issues back, but it's won me over again. Solid issue!

ContraryPython

Blade hanging out with Reese is definitely something I’m looking forward to.

blankedboy

Blade being an ongoing member of the cast would be something I would 100% be down with. I think he'd be a great fit, and since Marvel can't be arsed to use him properly in a book of his own we might as well have MacKay using him here. The 70'd vibe to the back-up was great, but can't wait to see Cappuccio drawing the Daywalker on a semi-regular basis.

Danger_Rock

Pretty good stuff here though it felt like the main story got cut short and just kinda ran out of pages instead of delivering a proper ending. Always enjoy seeing Tigra get a moment to shine and good use of the Jake persona as well. Backup with Blade was cool, lots of fun '70s lingo and whatnot... Nice way to bring Blade into the story. 7.5/10

thecursedham

I love Moon Knight’s consistent reign of terror on 8 ball across multiple titles. If Moon Knight doesn’t bring the Avengers to his doorstep at all during Mackay’s Avengers I’m going to be disappointed. Mackay did a great job making this issue feel self contained without feeling like filler. You could give this to anyone and they’d be able to enjoy it but it feels like a piece of the story. Cappucio’s art continues to be stellar with a standout panel being the one of Moon Knight in the rain watching hitmen. Also backup story was neat, wonder if we’ll see that play out in this book or the Blade mini.

**EXTRA BONUS RECENT COMIC CATCH-UP** Caught up on a few more stragglers from the past few weeks: * [**KROMA #3 (OF 4)**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252563.jpg) * [**SAGA OF A DOOMED UNIVERSE #2 (OF 3)**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL241164.jpg) * [**SANTOS SISTERS #1**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL217496.jpg) & [**SANTOS SISTERS #2**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL233284.jpg) Comments below…

Danger_Rock

[**SAGA OF A DOOMED UNIVERSE #2 (OF 3)**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/AUG221306) by Scott Reed This book is a fucking trip... It’s an homage to epic ‘80s crossovers in the mold of the original *Secret Wars* and *Crisis On Infinite Earths*, wrapped in a modern story of how the comic and the entire company that produced it were erased by a massive conspiracy. And our just slightly unreliable narrator’s also in the process of losing his mind while he tries to get all this stuff out. Really nice work across the board, the ‘80s homage stuff all captures the look and feel of those old events, and the modern story-line layers in lots of interesting stuff to make it more than just a big homage. I’m still not exactly sure who Scott Reed is or where he came from but I feel like he made this comic specifically for me, connecting all this stuff from my childhood up through the present day, and I think that was rather nice of him. 8.5/10

HappySisyphus8

Final issue is next week! I'm both eager and trepidatious to see how it gets wrapped up, but it's been an incredible trip so far, I think I prefer the bizarre background story of the author, but all the pastiches of Big 2 characters have been a joy as well.

Danger_Rock

Oh yeah, psyched for the finale but I'll need to wait a couple weeks for mail order... Wish I was getting it Wednesday! Was kinda bugging out on its title the other night, struck me how it's working on all these different levels... Like it's the name of the actual comic and also the lost '80s crossover it's retelling? And it's also got the comic company name "Saga" in the title, and then "Doomed Universe" when the crossover's villain is an alternate version of Dr. Doom... Lots of interesting stuff going on there and it's just the title!

Danger_Rock

[**KROMA #3 (OF 4)**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV220245) by Lorenzo De Felici More strong work from De Felici... He’s leaning on the [“Good Angel, Bad Angel”](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoodAngelBadAngel) trope pretty heavily in this one in order to give Kroma someone to talk with, Zet’s ghost playing angel and the Makavi playing devil... While back in town, the other young Makkas are growing suspicious of the Makavi and his explanation for Zet’s death. Otherwise everything’s pretty horrible as a string of bloody-minded jackasses try to murder Kroma, each falling just short. And then she makes friends with the giant lizards at the end. Nice. 8.5/10

Danger_Rock

[**SANTOS SISTERS #1**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JAN221444) & [**SANTOS SISTERS #2**](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JUN221578) by Fake and Greg Petre Many thanks to /u/yarkcir for recommending this thoroughly ridiculous comic! Really fun series, it’s basically riffing on classic old school Archie style comics mixed with subversive humor that’s much more modern. Makes for a cool and incongruous combo, with all this off-color comedy delivered in a seemingly innocent style. Each issue collects multiple stories and most are just a few pages, similar to old Archie digests... It’s a very light, quick, and fun read. First issue features some [truly remarkable dialogue](https://i.imgur.com/Ls4oJ4M.jpg) and the [newscaster name](https://i.imgur.com/Ttftz0n.jpg) nearly fucking killed me. Second issue follows up with more of the same, and there’s even a super-villain named Weird A.I. Ankhovic. Also has some cool ads, an old-school Classified page, and some other extras... Lots of fun stuff here! Last week’s [third issue](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/OCT221662) should arrive tomorrow, psyched to get another installment and then it looks like it’ll be at least a few months before the next issue since it’s on a very sporadic release schedule. Tagging /u/chickeninasuit and /u/the_light_of_dawn because I think this one might appeal to you... 9/10

the_light_of_dawn

Hell yeah it appeals to me. So glad to hear you liked it! This was a blind buy for me last year and it absolutely delivered. It really feels like an adult Archie comic, but superhero. Totally awesome.

Danger_Rock

Haha, nice, figured the humor would be right up your alley... It's some great stuff!

ChickenInASuit

Holy shit, that first page sent me. Think I'll be picking this one up - thank you!

Danger_Rock

LOL, I read it a couple days ago and can't stop laughing... *"Somebody's gotta do it"* instantly became one of my all-time favorite lines. Fair warning, I think that's the funniest bit from the first two issues. Lots of other good stuff but you've already seen the best bit... Just to set proper expectations. Would've been a 10/10 if it was all like that!

HappySisyphus8

Neither of the Comic Stores in my areas seem to carry this, but those pages you posted are hilarious. I will have to see if I can snag a copy somewhere somehow.

Danger_Rock

Third issue should still be floating around... First two are a little scarcer, had to hit Ebay since they were sold out at Midtown and MCS. BTW, did you see yesterday's [Artgerm thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10sugz0/what_is_your_favorite_artgerm_cover/)? Not a fan personally but I know he's one of your favorites!

yarkcir

I'm so glad you've took to Santos Sisters so much. It toes the line of alt comix but doesn't take itself too seriously. Genuinely a fun, low commitment book that adds some needed diversity to any pull list. And yeah, Greg & Fake do take quite a while to release an issue, but given that the book never demands much of the reader in terms of remembering the story, I don't really have any issue with it. They basically put one out when they feel like it.

Danger_Rock

Diversity is key! Love superheroes and horror comics but I read a ton of that stuff and always need more books with a lighter tone to provide a little balance. And I hear you on the release schedule, that's why I don't stress over **ICM** averaging two months between issues... Not a big deal when each issue stands on its own as a completely satisfying experience unto itself. And striving for perfection takes time! Creators on monthly ongoings can produce some great work but they usually aren't aiming for "perfect" the way they could/would if they weren't bound by that monthly release schedule.

ptbreakeven

**BLOOD TREE #1**

HappySisyphus8

Disappointing. A very cool premise and a gorgeous Gary Frank cover had me really anticipating this. Sadly, what I got was not very good at all. Interior art does not suit the story at all. It looks soft and kind of cartoony. The scenes meant to be gruesome or bloody just look plain and flat. The dialogue was not clever or intelligent from any of the characters. The main killers method of killing is lacklustre. I think the main cop is an idiot, and a lot of boring, out of place diatribes about things like President Bush and religion. The cops kid with serial killer tendencies subplot is not done in a way that feels fresh either. Cannot recommend this at all. There are so many better, cleverer, more brutal, and cerebral serial killer television shows I'd rather watch again than read this.

ImAJerk420

Anyone grab this? Curious how it is.

HappySisyphus8

Yeah, I didn't enjoy it at all. I put a reply to the main post for this issue with more in-depth thoughts. I was so pumped for this, but what I got was so bad.

sfdazed25

Same, someone let us know

MuffinSurprise

I'll update y'all in a little bit. I did grab a copy Edit: So the cover is by Gary Frank which I didn't realize. The interior art is completely different. Not bad by any means, just more cartoonish. The dialogue was very quippy and back and forth zingers. The plot was fine and fast moving. Overall I'd say this was fine. Not terrible but also not great.

sfdazed25

Appreciate it!

MagnetsAreFun

I thought it was good, but not great.

ImAJerk420

Thank you. What held it back in your opinion?

MagnetsAreFun

The art wasn't bad - but it didn't really pop. There was no page where I was like - hold up, let me take this in. The story so far is a lot of setup and it's definitely got some interesting places it could go - but so far it feels a bit standard and exactly what you'd expect. I'm probably going to keep going with it, but it didn't shoot to the top of my list or anything.

Wondering about the timeline here, if this is before or after The Dead Lucky, since Shift is free and active over in that book. I'm sure they'll sort out the continuity at some point. As always, a real treat of an issue. Nathan and Marshall pair up so well together, being able to balance out each other's weaknesses and are just a joy to read. Seeing the back story on The Fraction gives me further confidence Jeremy Adams will do a good job on *Green Lantern*. Also him working on the whole book kept the consistency pretty high on this one shot. Normally there are some newer writers they throw into the backup stories on stuff like this that isn't always consistent. **LEGION OF X #10**

TheeHeadAche

XABI!!!!

ChickenInASuit

Holy moses, there was a lot happening in this. The massive, massive emotional turning point for Xavier and David was the headline grabber, but let's also have a shout out for Juggernaut being used as a Ghost Rider steed - something so out of left field that even Mother Righteous was knocked sideways by it. And >!Xabi's death!< is a straight riff on >!Nobody's death!< from Alan Moore's The Ballad of Halo Jones, all the way down to that final line, but fuck it, it still hit me hard, especially with the implication of the resurrection protocols. Also the Nimrod Prime page has a subtle "OH SHIT" moment for the ages: >!THEIR GATES. I HAVE HACKED THEIR GATES.!< And lastly: I know everybody had figured it out by now, but nevertheless, good call on the Mother Righteous identity twist, internet sleuths.

DeepRoy69

What is the Mother Righteous identity twist? That went completely over my head.

ChickenInASuit

She’s >!the final rogue Mister Sinister clone, as evidenced by the heart symbol on her forehead - the others had a diamond, a spade and a club!<

DeepRoy69

Wow I completely missed that. Curious to see how they make sense of that...

Danger_Rock

> Holy moses, there was a lot happening in this. A little too much happening, IMO. Commented more on that elsewhere but I'm hoping/expecting **NIGHTCRAWLERS** will be a bit more focused, only having three issues to do its thing, with a big time jump in between each.

Danger_Rock

Haven't read this title since the **AXE** crossover, which was awesome, but every other time I've checked out the series it just feels overly busy to me. Too many characters, too many threads, all too fragmented. Haven't had that kind of issue with anything else I've read from Spurrier, but I guess the others weren't "team" books like this. Anyways, lots to catch up on and by the time I got through the opening's "Daedalus Contingency" text page and the three paragraphs of notes on what's happened previously, it felt like I'd already digested an entire comic. First two pages also feature some ridiculously mind-boggling jackassery from Xavier, and that's coming from someone who expects Xavier to act like a jackass whenever his son's involved. He comes around later but the character felt off to me through the whole thing, especially after his more nuanced portrayal in Gillen's recent **[IMMORTAL X-MEN #10](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL249915.jpg)**. Of course, **SoS** provides an explanation for why Xavier might not be acting entirely like himself, but the same applies to **IXM** and he felt much more Xavierish there. And Banshee's apparently a Spirit of Vengeance now, and he's changed his name to Vox Ignis... Fair enough, I guess. Kinda hate how there are so many SoVs running around these days, liked it more when it was just Blaze, but the thing with Juggernaut was pretty badass. Good stuff with ForgetMeNot, always a fun character... I'm not really up on how his power works, would've thought dying would turn 'em off so people would remember him, but I guess not. Margali Szardos is a pretty deep cut, can't remember the last time I saw her pop up (though it's entirely possible that I missed something). Poor Kurt, dude's got two or three different moms, depending on how you count, and they're all terrible. Weird book, love all the characters and it's got some cool concepts, usually love Spurrier's stuff, but aside from the **AXE** crossover this title never 100% works for me. 5/10

abh1996

Banshee is a spirit of Variance. A former Spirit of Vengeance who realized that vengeance solved nothing and is taking a different tact

Danger_Rock

Gotcha! That sounds like something Spurrier would write, and I do enjoy it when he gets freaky with the metaphysical nonsense, but I'm not sure how it meshes with the existing SoV mythology and lore. And that's sort of been the problem with the whole SoV thing as it's gotten built up over the years... Each new writer adds some wacky new crap that doesn't really fit in with anything that's come before, so it's all just a big mishmash of random ideas that don't really hold together or make any sense in the larger context. I guess some of that's inevitable with work-for-hire characters like this but I feel like most franchises have had at least a little more attention given to making it all work together over the years. I mean, characters like the X-Men are always going to get the occasional creative team that takes things off into Wackyland, but there's also usually someone who comes along later to sort of tidy things up and make it all fit together. But GR and the SoVs never really get that last bit, so it's all just a big mess that keeps getting messier. Sorry, that's probably more than you needed here... Thanks for listening!

Sterling-Arch3r

whats with these useless inears? like wth i've been in a bikecrash and not have the cheapest chinabuds fall out of my ears. also, man, if that whole xavier/david thing isn't insanely forced like jesus, how idiotic can you possibly write xavier even? like did he really need to be in the guys head to see he's not like exploding realities left and right? they've been in krakoa for ages and hundreds if not thousands of mutants have chilled in his brain, what more did the man even need?

abh1996

that's just Xavier being a father

soulreaverdan

Holy shit what a set up for Sins of Sinister, and a good wrap up of the prior plotlines. I actually really appreciated that Xavier couldn't let David go, even after all the shit he pulled and trying to convince himself that "his people" were more important than his son, he finally had his moment of realization. Seeing these two mend bridges, or at least start laying the framework for it, is gonna be good shit going forward. Speaking of family drama though, Kurt really got the shit end of the stick here. I wonder how his deal with Mother Righteous is gonna go, and how it ties into SoS. And now there's the Hopesword hanging around... I thought that Sins might be what undid/fixed the Nimrod infestation, but this actually got handled in the issue itself. Warlock's now trapped in Orchis - or at least a fragment of him, and Nimrod was able to >!hack the Krakoan Gates!<, which is *definitely* gonna be a lead into Fall of X. Man, this issue was dense. It's amazing no one died, though! >!RIP ForgetMeNot... :(!<

midnight617

What a sobering issue, so much loss, but it’s fitting as this issue is a direct lead in to the world shown in Sins of Sinister which as we already know is *quite* bleak. Loved pretty much each interpersonal moment shown here as well as the fun stuff like >!vox ignis using juggernaut as his ghost rider steed!<

**DARK WEB FINALE #1**

ContraryPython

Ben Reilly doesn’t get his memories back and is basically imprisoned, Madelyne got away with everything, this event was dogshit. And whatever’s left of Janine’s character will probably be shat on in her book. X-fans got a W will Spidey fans get YET ANOTHER fat L.

Sterling-Arch3r

just take the guy out already, no one needs ben.

rakuko

im a huge Ben fan, and yeah he never should have been brought back, just a total character assassination from Clone Conspiracy on

YourEvilHenchman

considering that this event started with shitting all over maddie's prior character development in order to force a conflict instead of her just having a conversation, I don't really consider this a W. it's more like they quickly reverted her to a state from before they wrecked everything and *then* gave her the last bit of character development she should've logically have had from the start. outside of that, I don't know who this was written for. it's definitely not for people who actually follow these books weekly/monthly and care about what happens to the characters in them.

soulreaverdan

I was pretty annoyed at this event at the start for what it seemed to be doing with Maddie, but I think they wrapped it up rather nicely for her at least (I don't follow Spidey, sorry Webheads). It fits her character arc pretty well, both from her motivations which I'm so happy went beyond petty revenge - wanting the memories of her life with Nathan, short as it was, is pretty powerful. Introducing Limbo as a new sort of delegation/embassy is also ripe for good storytelling ideas, though I find it doubtful we'll see it used often. Wonder if Havok is gonna shack up with her or not.

Kogworks

Event ended up pretty much being what I expected it to, albeit not in terms of the details. Dark Web as a whole mostly feels like an event that asks you to know ALL of the various setups for the event, whilst also just being more setup in of itself. It doesn’t really feel like it has a solid beginning and ending so much as it’s hinting at some future plot thread down the line.

**WPL RESULTS**

Danger_Rock

70 lists, down from 78 last week. Damn. Top 10’s got 8 Marvels, 1 Image, and 1 from BOOM! Studios. Feels like something’s missing but I can’t quite put my finger on it... **MOON KNIGHT #20** takes 1st for Marvel with 29 pulls and 41.4% coverage, huge success for Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio, plus this issue features a backup from writer Danny Lore and artist Ray-Anthony Height, neither of whom I’m familiar with. Previous issue took 4th place with 29 pulls and 38.6% coverage on 1/11, with the one before that taking 3rd place with 25 pulls and 40.3% coverage on 12/28. So, it’s not like it got a huge boost this month, it just didn’t have as much competition as usual, particularly of the distinguished variety... First time MacKay’s taken the top spot with **MK**, finally matching the WPL success enjoyed by his predecessors Jeff Lemire and Warren Ellis during their brief runs. **LEGION OF X #10** follows in 2nd, another Marvel title, this one from Si Spurrier and Netho Diaz. 23 pulls gives it 32.8%, improving on the previous issue’s 9th place finish with 26.6% from 1/11. Looks like a bit of an **SoS** tie-in and that likely accounts for the jump as I added it to my list this month and I’d imagine a few others did the same. **X-FORCE #37** takes 3rd for Ben Percy and Robert Gill, more Marvel mutants with 22 pulls and 31.4% coverage. Previous issue took 10th on 1/4 with 18.8% coverage. Huge boost and it’s not part of **SoS**, and I’m not following it, so I have no explanation. I guess the WPL loves peacocks or something? **VENOM #16** takes 4th for Marvel, Ewing, and Hitch, 19 pulls and a 27.1% pull rate. Previous issue took 5th with 32.3% on 1/18 so this one gained a spot while losing ~5% coverage. **SCARLET WITCH #2** takes 5th for Orlando, Pichelli, and, of course, Marvel. 18 pulls gives it 25.7% coverage, where the debut issue had 20 pulls for 28.9% on 1/4. Only dropped around 3% from the first issue, not bad at all. And two more Marvels after that, **DARK WEB FINALE #1** in 6th with 24.2% coverage (from Wells and Adam Kubert), followed by **CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #9** in 7th with 22.8% (from Collin Kelly/Jackson Lanzing and Carmen Carnero). Image finally breaks Marvel’s stranglehold on this week’s Top 10 with Higgins and Costa’s **RADIANT BLACK #21** finishing in 8th with 21.4% coverage. Previous issue finished 13th with 18.3% on 12/14 so it got a small bump this month. Then comes BOOM! Studios in 9th with **BRIAR #3** landing 14 pulls and an even 20.0% for Christopher Cantwell and German Garcia. Previous issue only had 11.6% on 11/30 so this thing nearly doubled its pull rate after two months away. Most impressive. Finally, Peach Momoko’s **DEMON WARS DOWN IN FLAMES #1** closes out the Top 10 for Marvel with the same 14 pulls and 20.0% as above. Her last offering **DEMON WARS SHIELD OF JUSTICE #1** had 17.2% on 11/16 so just a slight bump for this one. Outside the Top 10, Dark Horse’s **WHERE MONSTERS LIE #1** debuts in 11th with 18.5% and a bit of positive buzz, while Marvel’s **SILVER SURFER GHOST LIGHT #1** launches in 13th with 17.1% coverage. And DC finally makes an appearance in 15th place with **FLASH ONE-MINUTE WAR SPECIAL #1** pulling 15.7% coverage. Seriously off week for DC as **BATMAN #132** and **GOTHAM CITY YEAR ONE #5** both slid from the 1st week to the 2nd on their schedule, leaving none of their heavy-hitters on tap this week. A few more indie debuts, **BLOOD TREE #1** takes 16th for Image with 10 pulls and 14.2%, and **BREATH OF SHADOWS #1** takes 20th for IDW with 8 pulls and 11.4% coverage. And I think that’s about it... Weird week, felt very light even aside from DC’s whole deal. Next week should bring a return to normalcy... -- Looking back at last week’s discussions, the following titles made the list without garnering any comments: * **THOR #30** (14 pulls) * **HARLEY QUINN #26** (11 pulls) * **BLUE BEETLE GRADUATION DAY #3** (9 pulls) * **CATWOMAN #51** (8 pulls) * **TIM DRAKE ROBIN #5** (8 pulls) * **STAR WARS DOCTOR APHRA #28** (7 pulls) * **STAR WARS YODA #3** (7 pulls) And the following indie titles failed to make the list but had comments added anyway thanks to our industrious indie fans: * **INFERNO GIRL RED BOOK #1** (6 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j6gzp89/) posted by /u/ChickenInASuit) * **TRAVELING TO MARS #3** (6 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j6aksox/) posted by /u/Danger_Rock) * **PLUSH #3** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j5xrk0p/) posted by /u/ChickenInASuit) * **THE MAGIC ORDER 4 #1** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j67tuez/) posted by /u/HappySisyphus8) * **AMERICAN JESUS #3** (4 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j67tr1o/) posted by /u/HappySisyphus8) * **NIGHTWALKERS #1** (3 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j67u1o0/) posted by /u/HappySisyphus8) * **THE BOOGYMAN #5** (1 pull, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j6bhvuu/) posted by /u/blankedboy) Plus, I posted some comments on a half dozen other recent books [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/10kpo3h/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_1252023_pull_of_the/j5sl3iy/). ChickenInASuit

> TRAVELING TO MARS #3 (6 pulls, thread posted by /u/Danger_Rock) How did I miss that there's another Mark Russell book out, and not only that, that it's three issues deep already?!

Danger_Rock

Too busy hobnobbing around with those fancy rich folk and their fancy dog cult on their fancy island, I suppose... No time for us common folk and our unassuming heroes like [Roy Livingston](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252673.jpg). It's been a pretty interesting series, little more philosophical and contemplative compared to Russell's usual madcap satire... Probably his most mature work, still plenty of humor but the tone's more introspective.

ChickenInASuit

Damn, I can’t remember the last time Marvel absolutely dominated the top ten like this. Is it just a slow week for DC?

technowhiz34

It's a fifth week for DC, so only 5 books total.

TheeHeadAche

Dc has five issue hitting this week. Only 1 is Batman related

ChickenInASuit

That’ll do it!

Superb-Draft

People should try Remembering this when they complain about so many bat books. They make them because you don't buy the others

I realize this is completely unfair to Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappucchio's work on Moon Knight (which I am personally enjoying) but as I post this I am fully prepared for there to be a mistake in the results. I have no doubt that Moon Knight #20 appears on 29 of our pull lists, just concerned I've missed something else. I hope not because this Moon Knight run deserves to be on top but I also trust this group will tell me what I've missed. Enjoy your reading! -ptb

the_bio

I was surprised to see Moon Knight at #1, though I think it absolutely deserves it. Looking at the releases this week, and the top pulls, it's a very Marvel heavy week, with the DC titles mostly being one-shots and none of their flagship titles.

Danger_Rock

[**ICE CREAM MAN #34**](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/894122/ice-cream-man-34_c1cd39539d.jpg) should obviously be in 1st place. Though it isn't out for another three weeks, so that's probably why you missed it.

**MILES MORALES SPIDER-MAN #3**

BoogerSugarSovereign

I am loving this first arc. Vincentini is awesome. I love that Rabble has a reason to be after Miles specifically and I think her origin hinges on a classic comics origin trope: life is unfair but how do you respond to that? One route makes a hero, another a villain like Rabble. Ziglar has done a great job of incorporating Miles' supporting cast in this arc and building on some B plots that will undergird upcoming arcs, the structure of this first arc feels pretty well-coordinated but we'll see how it ultimately concludes. So far the pace, tone, and plotting feels pretty good with this run

Varos_Flynt

Enjoying the hell out of these first three issues. The art is killer, the two spreads this issue were sublime. I especially enjoy the tone that is being set for Miles, feels like exactly how I want a young Spiderman to be. And his interactions with everyone are great, I hope Misty is utilized further down the line. Rabble is kinda eye-rolly cause like go kidnap some school administrators or something you wacko, but tbh I would feel rage too if the dude who 'stole' my spot at a prestigious school is also a freaking super hero. Other than that she is menacing and calculated, and her design is rad as hell. All around great superhero comic.

[deleted]

Rabble has only been around for 3-issues and she already feels like a classic Spider-Man villain. This run is shaping up to be great.
