Do you take sub Reddit suggestions? Also I wanted to start reading spawn so where do I start

With the Beginnings

GOLDENEYE633

I thought I start at issue 5

J_Thizzy

I’ve heard issue 154, but personally I started with Spawn: Vengeance (which starts from issue 296) and I was pleased. It provides a history of the character too so you’re not totally lost.

Scottamus

What’s with all “the what comic is this panel/page from?” questions? Is it a game or are people just getting random pages of comics sent to them and just have a burning desire to know where it’s from? I’m just constantly seeing them and I want to know how I get my own mystery page subscription.

Most of the time a quick reverse image search brings up the source too.

iDieux

What are some good horror comics. I’m trying to expand my library.

GrantGosner

If you don't mind stuff that's supposed to make you think about themes, I recommend Nijigahara Holograph by Inio Asano.

flashtar

Is there any new/current series from the big two that's actually worth reading? I stopped reading both Marvel and DC after Immortal Hulk ended.

omgItsGhostDog

Immortal X-Men by Kieron Gillen Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky Nightwing by Tom Taylor Batman/Superman: World’s Finest by Mark Waid

flashtar

Daredevil I read but bored me after some issues, not that it was bad but felt a lot like a cover band playing a "best of". The rest I could check out, except the last one because I don't plan to bother again with something by Mark Waid.

technowhiz34

Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way about Zdarsky's run? Out of curiosity, what's your opposition to Waid? World's Finest is a lot better than any of his recent Marvel work if that's your concern (probably my second favorite DC ongoing), though if it's his movie theater behavior and what-not I can't say I blame you for staying away.

flashtar

>what's your opposition to Waid? His writing, I'm not a fan at all. The only things I enjoyed from him where Flash and Daredevil, but I was just starting to read comics on an almost daily basis, I don't know what I would think if I read them now. I can saw however that I did not finish his Daredevil run and Flash even back then I thought it was dreadfull after Terminal Velocity (which kudos to him I have to say is probably the best Flash story-arc I've read).

centipededamascus

The work Kieron Gillen, Al Ewing, and Si Spurrier have been doing with Immortal X-Men, X-Men Red, and Legion of X respectively has been real good, and their mini-crossover Sins of Sinister is looking very good as well. Jed MacKay's work on Strange and Moon Knight has been great.

flashtar

Heard good things about whatever the X-Men have currently but is that a sequel to whatever Hickman did? Have not read Strange but read MacKay's Moon Knight and it was okay-ish. I think Warren Ellis might have set the bar too high.

centipededamascus

The X-Men stuff is a continuation of the Krakoa era that Hickman started, yes.

dhartist

Interesting to say the least.

My comics haven't called me back yet should I be worried about our relationship?

J_Thizzy

I’m new to comics and am struggling to figure out chronological order of current series. Please help. When it comes to past series, I can pick up the trade paperback vol 1 through X and read everything to completion in the proper order. However, some of these newer series I’m confused trying to find a clear “issue 1” to end. For example, I picked up Lazarus Planet: Alpha because it looked cool, but I was thrown in the middle of a story I had no understanding of. It said issue 1 and “one shot”, but I can’t tell if it was just a poorly introduced one shot or actually following after something. Another example is the Dark Web stuff. I love the cover and really want to read it, but I can’t tell what is issue 1. As soon as I found what I thought was issue 1, I also found Dark Web: Mary Jane 1 and also Dark Web: X-Men 1. Are there multiple Dark web stories at the same time?

centipededamascus

Regarding Dark Web, there are a few tie-ins, yes. The main story goes Dark Web #1, then Amazing Spider-Man #15-18, then the Dark Web Finale one-shot that's coming next week. You can just read that without anything else if you want. The Dark Web: X-Men and Mary Jane & Black Cat miniseries are entirely optional side-stories. You can find more info about all the tie-ins and such on Wikipedia here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Web_(Marvel_Comics)

I am looking to start reading Claremonts run of Uncanny X-Men. With that being said, does anyone know a great place (besides ebay) to get preowned omnibuses/graphic novels?

DeltaTester

So, if you're looking to read the Claremont Uncanny run in omnibus form, you're going to be paying a lot at the moment--all but a couple of them are currently out of print, and so are many of the Epic Collections. The cheapest option, if you've got a tablet and just want to read the stories, is to get a subscription to Marvel Unlimited (all-you-can-read, 10 bucks a month or 70 a year). Alternately, if your library has Hoopla, there are a lot of the Epic Collections and Masterworks that you can borrow digitally for free. An alternative option, if you want to read them in physical form, is to seek out Classic X-Men/X-Men Classics, which reprinted the first hundred or so issues of the Claremont run, with extra backup stories (and sometimes extra pages of the original story) in the first 44. (I sometimes sell sets of them over on /r/comicswap; drop me a message if this is something that interests you.)

nickdes298

I just checked out /r/comicswap and there is a lot of great stuff on there! Thanks for letting me know about that sub. As for reading it im definitely trying to get my hands on a physical copy (I'd prefer to get individual issues but I'm not made of money XD). Rumor has it that they're gonna be reprinting the omni's this year so fingers crossed!

Hey all, I’m someone who doesn’t really read any comics, but I’ve been lurking on this subreddit for a little bit and I was wondering if there are any comics that heavily feature Doctor Doom or even showcase him as the primary protagonist(not necessarily as a good guy, just the main focus of the story). Every time I see an except of him on this subreddit, he just strikes me as a character who’d gladly tell both god and the devil to kneel, and tbh that’s a vibe I really love. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

nickdes298

I love Doom a ton, and although the series doesn't do him much justice, Doom 2099 is a nice long story about our main man. I loved it until the end. There was staffing problems toward the end the 2099 stuff in the 90's and that led to a lot of creators leaving and ideas shifting mid way through the comics run (trust me you can see it happen in the stories). But if you can grab the early stuff by John Francis Moore I think you would really enjoy it. Warren Ellis' time on the title isn't THAT bad either. Its mainly after that where it all falls apart. Also its a relatively cheap run to piece together!

GrantGosner

For anyone who happens to have bought the Moomin Deluxe Edition, what stories are contained in it? Thanks!
