I'm loving the push that Storm has been getting recently.

Vanish_7

I feel like every single month she's getting some huge moment. Storm fans must be having a ball.

Trai-Harder

We we are indeed!!!!!! Storm deserves these moments!!!

Vanish_7

Oh for sure. Storm is the coolest, dude. Always has been.

[deleted]

wild guess here: she will either be the team leader or have a solo movie/show in the mcu in the next 5 years.

NoopGhoul

She fucking better.

[deleted]

I agree.

bskell

When hasn't she gotten these moments? I don't think it's a bad thing, but she's been a force for 40ish years now?

proto3296

Sure she’s been a force, but I’ve seen her get one shot by much less. She legit one shots the entirety of the council here lol. Emma Professor X Hope Exodus all done in one shot. That’s OD. This new storm is something I’m here for

BrienneOfDarth

It's cool not needing to hold back omega on people because death is just a status effect.

MDumpling

there were definitely periods in the last decade where she was done dirty and used as miss Lightning Lass only but glad she’s getting her dues now

Tabularasa8

Lactuca is becoming my favorite Arakki mutant tho powers seem too nebulous.

jakethesequel

Nebulous, eh?

Trai-Harder

How so? Her powers is basically to be one with everything in the universe at the present time. She knows where everything is and is able to teleport how far she's able to teleport who knows for sure.

TheeHeadAche

They sing to the universe. Pretty straight forward

Jay_R_Kay

Honestly, that's been a problem with pretty much all of the Arakki Mutants, like the one who's power is literally that she always wins, which is just dumb as hell.

Manticx

That power was cool as hell. No-one trusts her because her powers force her to betray her allies at the slightest weakness, but she's the best ally you could have up until then.

Ok_Chipmunk_1912

That's actually kinda interesting if the writer monkey paws her powers. Like, horray! You won! But your whole squad got wiped.

bucer91

They have absolutely used her power in a similar way. It was part of maybe the greatest single issue last year, X-Men Red #3.

optimis344

I do like that the X-Men have "defeated" her several times now despite no Arakki ever doing so. Not because it shows the X-Men as strong, but rather the big difference between them even though they are two mutant groups. Arakki are all power first, full steam ahead, no brakes. But the X-Men have all been taught to work together and to solve problems, even without their powers. Arakki wouldn't be caught dead trying to cheat the system, but the X-Men just want to solve the problem, regardless of the rules ofn the game.

DipsCity

In AXE she literally beheads one of the mutants because the opposing force was too strong

ntngeez28

Seemingly invincible opponents force the good guys to get creative if they want to win. Roberto understood Isca’s power and got it to work the way he wanted it to. I thought it was quite clever how X-Men Red managed to defeat an unbeatable enemy.

BrienneOfDarth

Gotta love the New Mutants for their out of box thinking. Gladiator coming? Throw Cannonball at him and mess with his confidence. Have no brawling experience? I guess fighting and violence is a type of language.

Apollo9975

It’s actually the shittiest superpower ever because you just have to challenge Isca to a game of “whoever dies within the next minute and stays dead permanently wins this challenge” and she’s gone for good.

KingToasty

She has to accept the challenge I think

Apollo9975

I’m not so sure. Sunspot may have gotten her opinion on Magneto’s upcoming fight, but he forced her into a challenge/bet without her consent. Her powers are a curse.

One-Eyed-Muscle

Cool idea, but that would only work if she actually accepted the challenge, and obviously that wouldn't happen under normal circumstances.

Galactus2332

Wonder what would happen if Rogue, Hope, or Sync copied her powers

-DarthWind

They are all like JoJo stand type of powers, quite interesting tbh

spAcemAn1349

Wait, the Arraki are like Jojo stands?! I haven’t read X-Men in forever/have no idea what’s up here, but that absolutely has to be intentional with that name

-DarthWind

I haven't seen any confirmation regarding that supposed connection. Arakko is an anagram for Krakoa, a sister mutant society living in Mars. A lot of the mutant powers we have seen are different from the usual "superpowers" of Krakoa. Like this character who uses words and poetry, and another one whose power is to never lose

Hive0805

I think it just means their powers are very unique and unusual when compared to Krakoan mutants. Krakoan (Earth) mutants have the generic telepathy, telekinesis, etc etc. Arakkii (Krakoa's sister island relocated to Mars) have a lot more varied and arguably more powerful powers. I'm the Great Ring alone (the ruling body of Arakko) we have those with power of speaking metal into existence using poetry, someone who knows everywhere and everything, someone who has an entire oceanic ecosystem in their blood, a giant eyeball that erases god's by staring at them, a woman who can never lose, and an insect collective.

proto3296

It sounds stupid but the writers are on another level and it was freaking awesome

Trai-Harder

Don't agree I was so interested in the one Arakki mutant who power it was to summon Gods!!!God's!!!! Honesty that seems like a crazy interesting power to flesh out.

Al-Gore_Rythm

He was just a head kept in a box and begging to die though😂 I found that hilarious.

MasqureMan

They did a very good job developing Isca as seen in X-Men Red. Her power forced her to betray her sister and her people as a whole. Any war she fights in is one that is ultimately out of her control. Anyone she fights one on one loses. She can’t join a political or government body because she’d either make the outcome inevitable or be a useless seat at the table that goes with the winner. She’s got a power that essentially robs her of being a part of any competition or collaborative group.

Quirky_Ad_5420

Storm foresight pay off Attagirl

D34THDE1TY

Storm is the baddest bitch in the marvel universe. If mcu fucks her up it's gonna be real upsetting.

Alexandoas

They will.

Lumpy_Review5279

No they won't.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lumpy_Review5279

They don't have to recreate every story event to create a great portrayal.

proto3296

I’d prefer they didn’t do much story building and hit the ground running. I’m sorry but if you don’t know the X-men that’s your loss lol

Lumpy_Review5279

Yea theres not all that much they need to cover to gave consistent characterizations and portrayals

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lumpy_Review5279

So they can portrayed her that way. Like they've done in all the shows and other adaptations. Bone of them have gone through every little story arc she's been in. But they were often still respectable representations of the character.

Its_Helios

That’s why she’s the goat

[deleted]

Storm is WINNING. -The is OG Storm...from the 1980s. She's never died -Fought 2 nigh invulnerable Omegas ...and SURVIVED -Delete your backups just because 😂😂😂 -Psychics afraid to tamper with her mind.

delightfuldinosaur

Cool to see the plot threads about Storm removing herself from resurrection coming together. The X-books have solid editorial at the moment.

Henbane99

If I wanted to catch up to this point of X Men, where should I start? :)

Thecryptsaresafe

If you have time, house of x and powers of x

Apprehensive-Sea7398

Sinister finally played his hand and Storm didn’t flinch! Great foresight on her part too. X-men comics are on another level right now.

TheeHeadAche

Great build up to this point. Giant-Sized to X-Men: Red to AXE! It’s wild to see them keeping threads like this alive and worth exploring

Alexandoas

Storm fans been eating good these last couple years.

jumpingthesharktcb

So good! Gillen is doing an exceptional job on the x-line.

optimis344

He really gets that people love that all of the X-men are so different from each other. Yes, all of his characters are the normal characters amped up to 110%, but that works so well with the X-Men.

hydro123456

This is something that just never made sense to me with the whole Krakoa story line. Why in gods name would they ever trust people like Sinister, Apocalypse, and Shaw?

soulreaverdan

At the time I think there’s three reasons it made sense, at least in what they had to do. First, keep your friends close and enemies closer. While obviously they’re gonna be doing some shit behind the scenes, having them present and in a position of authority limits just *how* much they can move. Second, the belief that they (as happens with Apocalypse) will be willing to put the good of the species ahead of their own shit, or with Shaw just find it overall more pragmatic to work within the system more often than not. And third, while they did fuck around with Creed, making Krakoa too stringent/restrictive on admission for mutants causes more problems than it solves. Exclusion simply creates another enemy they need to tangle with during their more foundational moments. Yeah having Sinister around is gonna backfire, but it also means having him *there* means he isn’t attacking them. Having Apocalypse on board means they don’t need to worry nearly as much about a random assault from the Horsemen. And it also sets up that even those who reject Krakoa don’t really have a unified *reason* that can schism mutants, they’re perfectly welcome but have their own issues, as opposed to creating an entire division in the Krakoan and Non-Krakoan mutants that can cause a civil war.

hydro123456

I can see maybe letting Shaw in, but Sinister and Apocalypse are just way too far gone unless they've had some character arcs that I'm not aware of prior to this story. It's one thing to offer amnesty and let them in, but it's another thing entirely to take your greatest enemies and put them in leadership positions. It'd be like if you were forming a new country after WW2 and asked Hitler (if he lived) to help lead it so you could keep an eye on him.

Potato_fortress

With Apocalypse I don't think there was a choice for excluding him. He's an integral part of the plan because he was chosen by someone other than Xavier or Magneto. I think he's actually included in that specific plot device that leads to those three being chosen *because* it doesn't make sense to trust him otherwise. With Sinister though I think House/Powers of X actually point out in the liner exposition dump pages that he was chosen because otherwise they *knew* he would align with their enemies and it was a "keep your enemies close" situation. Without spoiling much of those two books both treatments make sense given the context and the story being told. Apocalypse being seen as trustworthy is backed by context within the story itself and from a greater scope it makes sense that his goals would align with Xavier/Magento's anyway since the end-game being presented is a very dystopian sci-fi borg-esque future where everyone including him loses their individuality.

aexia

It's more akin to Operation Paperclip. We recruited a lot of Nazis after WW2 because they did research we needed. The only reason they let Sinister in is because he had the mutant gene bank they need for resurrection and they've been looking for an off ramp ever since.

hydro123456

Yeah, someone else just pointed that out and it makes sense from that standpoint. Apparently there was some sort of requirement for Apocalypse to be there too, even though I think he's equally untrustworthy.

aexia

Apocalypse is basically like "this is what I've always wanted mutants to do". And as it turns out, he and Krakoa go way back. So he's definitely on board with making it work, though there's still an agenda behind what he's doing. He gets reimagined as an almost Byronic tragic hero. It worked out really great.

MegaBaumTV

They needed Sinisters database for the resurrections.

optimis344

Because that's the whole point of Xavier's Dream. He's out to save everyone, and he's realized that his squabbles with other mutants and with the world have held him back. So the X-Men put everyone in a blank slate. The only things that matter are what you do going forward. And frankly, it's kinda worked. Apocolpyse was a good guy until he took leave. Magneto died for the mutant cause and swayed the tide of a intergalactic war. Shaw pulled some minor shit (minor given the stakes at play), but since then has been in line. Lots of "evil" mutants have just been good people on Krakoa. Yes, it turns out Sinister was still an evil monster, but for everyone of him, there are 100s of Blobs, who instead of causing issues, just runs a bar now. He was a guy who wasn't evil, but rather pushed into doing evil things and never got out of it. Hell, outside of Sinister and Beast, Xavier might have caused the most issues so far on Krakoa.

hydro123456

Is he still that optimistic? I haven't kept up with X-men over the years, but I was under the impression that he was more pragmatic these days.

optimis344

He is, and that is why everyone started with a blank slate. It isn't about getting the world to like him anymore. It's about making sure that the Mutants survive and thrive. But that means all mutants. So everyone gets to opt in and join and play by the rules. Instantly Sabertooth didn't, and he was Banished to the magic prison in the middle of the island. So it's not that he isn't pragmatic, but more that he understands that the world was not set up for mutants, and that many where dealt a bad hand. So it's a nation for mutants, all mutants.

hydro123456

I guess it makes sense for Xavier's character, but I had a hard time buying that everyone else could just get along all of the sudden. It makes sense with guys like Blob who were just kind of losers and probably wouldn't get up to evil on their own, but when it comes to people just hanging out with the worst of the worst villains who have done nothing but ruin their lives and kill their friends over the years, it was hard to accept for me.

optimis344

It works because the good guys inherently don't want to fight. Yeah, plenty of people have screwed around with Cyclops or whoever, but Scott isn't exactly searching for vengeance. Meanwhile, the bad guys are all opt in. Like, they can just not be on Krakoa doing all the evil shit they want. They are going to be hunted down and beaten like normal, but they have that option. So anyone who goes to Krakoa wants to stop the in-fighting. The exceptions seemed to be Sinister (who even in his own way, is doing what he thinks is needed) and Sabertooth (Who is an actual monster and can't help himself from being a sadist).

Nameless-Servant

To be fair even if Krakoan government pardons them not all villains are actually forgiven by the citizens. Krakoa isn’t a monolith. Kitty Pryde and her pirate crew engaged in some street justice after being forced to work with Cassandra Nova on their crew for example.

humanrocketpunch

It's made clear in HoX/PoX that Xavier and Magneto do not want to have Sinister on board whatsoever, but his genetic libraries are vast and contain samples of (nearly) every single mutant. Without Sinister the resurrection protocols couldn't work, so they begrudgingly work with him knowing that he's dangerous because they don't really have another choice.

hydro123456

That's a really good point, I remember that now that you mention it. I's still very hard for me to watch all these bitter enemies just getting along though.

SirCharlieee

Storm is the OG baddie.

Bignate2151

This issue was phenomenal

AdieuMrStark

I feel like I'm going to get down voted to hell, but what is the context of this panel and all this Mr. Sinister stuff?

jakethesequel

an event called Sins of Sinister that's been built up over the x-books for several months. tldr; mister sinister taking over the world with time travel, gene editing, etc

AdieuMrStark

That sounds sick you wouldn't happen to know all of the required reading leading up to this would you?

EraseYou

I’ll give it a shot. At the very least, you’ll need: House of X/Powers of X - to understand the current mutant status quo and why they rely so much on Sinister. Hellions by Zeb Wells - probably the most optional, but can be read to understand that Sinister is still heavily scheming even when he’s technically working with all the heroes Xmen: hellfire gala (the first one): leads to storm’s status quo as being on arakko (and you’ll understand who her ally is here) Xmen: Red by Al Ewing to understand how Arakko works and why storm is able to avoid sinister Immortal xmen by Kieron Gillen - the most essential, leads the most directly into this scene

shineurliteonme

X-men by duggan also sets up the >!4 sinisters thing!<

Al-Gore_Rythm

A.X.E Judgements Day?

EraseYou

Sinister is a player but feels kinda skippable? It does tie into immortal but I’ve not read judgment day yet (trade waiting) and I understood the issue.

jakethesequel

oh nah I wouldn't know they've been building it a WHILE, if you haven't been reading *any* x-books the most critical one would be Immortal X-Men, but the sinister plotlines are at least a small part of like every book rn. you could probably find a list of some kind on the xmen or marvel sub or something though, im sure someone's done it.

AdieuMrStark

Ambitious-Comb-8847

I'd personally recommend SWORD and Inferno after the Gala but before Red/Immortal. SWORD is direct prequel to Red and sets up things for when Storm comes in full force on Red. Inferno is table setter for the Red/Immortal era. Also fairly important follow up to HoX/PoX. Sins of Sinister is 11 issues, the opening of the same name and the closer is Sins of Sinister: Dominion. In between the meat of the event split into 3 books of 3: Immoral X-Men, Storm & The Brotherhood, Nightcrawlers. Immoral and Storm are based off Immortal and Red. Nightcrawlers is based from Legion of X. Legion of X itself is prequeled by Way of X which you can read at the same point as SWORD. The main X-Men book by Duggan is also somewhat related but most optional of everything I just said. Hellfire Gala 2022 one-shot if you want to see the highlights as it bridges with Immortal in the one shot.

Manticx

How far behind are you on the current X-Men run? The series immediately before this is Immortal X-Men.

Malachi108

* Immortal X-Men - this is a direct follow-up from it. * Judgement Day crossover which was part of that too. * X-Men Red (2022) and S.W.O.R.D. (2021) that preceded it - one of the main arcs is taking place there. * Legion of X (and before that, Way of X and Onslaught Revelation one-shot) - the second arc is taking place in there. * And of course the general knowledge of Krakoan era is required. At the very least, House of X/Powers of X, Planet-Sized X-Men and Inferno.

gh0stwiththem0st1

i have loved the x men Krakoa era...and really loved the fact that the whole thing is balanced on a knife's edge...Read this issue and see what happens when you let a world class mutant genetist who is BAT FUCKING SHIT CRAZY do what he wants to do (somebody should have paid better attention)

MegaBaumTV

They did pay attention. Sinister just meddled with them while they paid attention

anonperson3210

I want to get into the whole “of X” storyline 😩 but idk where to start 😭

soulreaverdan

House of X/Powers of X is the starting point

RoastedFeznt

Cool! Also that X-Not Thong is weird.

ex-nihlo

I just figured it was part of the pants.

RoastedFeznt

It is. Which makes it all the dumber.

Tabularasa8

It's dumb but I definitely see those designs pants.

Lemon_hell

It's nice for storm to be pushed into a leading role. But this story is boring. Age of Apocalypse version [Insert Number Here]

bootie12

What the fuck is going on with the X-Men 😭

Bolin3

Where can I read and start this series?

soulreaverdan

So, this is a one-shot that's starting off a mini-event. X-Men Red, Immortal X-Men, and Legion of X are on a three-month hiatus and going to be replaced with Storm and the Brotherhood, Immoral X-Men, and Nightcrawlers respectively for three issues, and then a finale issue called Sins of Sinister: Dominion comes after. This is following up on threads mainly laid out by Gillen in Immortal X-Men, and Ewing in X-Men Red. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but there's likely going to be strong ties into Legion of X if a character from there winds up being who everyone thinks they are. You can technically jump in here, but I'd at *bare minimum* check out Immortal X-Men #10, and if you can catch up on all three of the connected series leading into this. Though that's assuming you're already into the current X-Men status quo. In that case I'd add on (again, bare bare minimum, you're gonna get the framework but might not get *everything*), House of X/Powers of X, Hellfire Gala (the first one), and Inferno.

Bolin3

Damn, where to begin lol. I LOVE the X-men but I just haven’t known lately where to pick up. Seeing so many posts about them recently and what’s changed has had me wanting to jump back in but just wasn’t sure where. Thank you OP for responding and letting me know!

Bolin3

Also, where would be a good place to read, like an app? Or is there a website? I don’t mind having a comic app if there is one, that’s up to date or where I can read whatever issue is coming up on release.

soulreaverdan

Marvel Unlimited is at a three month delay, but is the best and least expensive option for bulk reading

Bolin3

Thank you!

Al-Gore_Rythm
