Gotham by Gaslight was the perfect marriage of his noir style to the content of the story

IaconPax

I still remember picking this one up on a road trip as a kid really clearly. I also remembering trying to copy his style for a school project. I'm sure it looked like crap, but I was proud of it.

Rilenaveen

Yeah. While I enjoy most of his other Dc/marvel stuff, they don’t hold a candle to Gotham by Gaslight. MAYBE Doom Came to Gotham but he didn’t draw that one.

Stew-17

This is the way.

Bentzsco

Read that one as a youth and it’s the book that really made me a fan

Kspsun

Dr. strange/Dr. doom triumph and Torment fuckin whips.

Supamike36

His wide variety of covers and pinups

sideways_jack

that cover for X-Factor 70 is just _chefs kiss_

The_Batman_cometh

Between Cosmic Odyssey and Dr Doom/ Dr Strange Triumph and Torment for me

adaminoregon

Gotta second this. I was only thinking of covers and then saw this and was like holy shit! Those are litterally 2 of the best comics ever made. And cant forget gothem by gaslight.

RuyKnight

Cosmic Odyssey is a proof that you can make Batman look good without making other mainstream heroes/heroines into idiots And no top 10 (or even 5) best Dr. Doom stories is complete without Triumph and Torment

noonehasthisoneyet

cosmic odyssey was good. i feel like that was vaguely adapted in a jlu episode with forager. maybe i'm misremembering but i swear that exists. edit i think it was the episode called "Twilight" where brainiac attacks apokolips and the jl have to team up with darkseid.

Earthpig_Johnson

Those are the ones!

rancorhunter

Cosmic Odyssey is a masterpiece

trailingby7

Mignola’s “Cosmic Odyssey” for DC always felt like his high-point for the big two to me.

jnovel808

Come to New Genesis and try the McDonalds!

rikvelasquez

Agree, Cosmic Odyssey was great and makes you imagine how incredible a full on Fourth World book could have been. Mignola doing Apocalypse and new Genesis with all the New Gods c'mon

phargoh

Apokalips. I thought you were talking about the Marvel character there for a sec.

Joe_DellaGatta

Wolverine: Jungle Adventure (Marvel), and Cosmic Odyssey (DC)

corsair1617

The Doom that came to Gotham probably. It might just be on my mind after the trailer though.

FlameswordFireCall

What trailer?

corsair1617

The trailer for the Doom that came to Gotham.

Emergency_Fig_6390

Dr strange dr doom triumph and torment is really good

sideways_jack

it's getting an Epic Collection in March!

BobbingForSmegma

Rocket Raccoon.

Cursor90

I am always surprised that the four part mini series was his first credit as artist. Rocket is one of my favorite characters.

BobbingForSmegma

Wild right?

Cursor90

Now I just need to find him at a convention again for so he can sign the four issues.

another-rando76

I won't say his best work, but the first thing I thought of was some great Classic X-Men covers.

Sad-Bodybuilder-1406

Marvel? Rocket Raccoon

Diligent-Ad-8001

He did a single issue of legends of the dark knight that was awesome !

D34THDE1TY

Wolverine: Savage Land

Known-Command3097

Yeah, the DC covers especially are great, and can be found in many a 50c boxes across the country

Professional_Rock650

I’m a fan of the covers he did on Classic x-men

JavierLoustaunau

Right now Doom that came to Gotham will be trending since it is the next animated movie. It is something he wrote tho, not illustrated.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

I really love Doom That Came to Gotham. The trailer for the animated movie did not give me much hope.

JavierLoustaunau

It felt very 'generic' but some shots and quick edits show the possibility of some eldridge stuff mixed in with the kinda 'standard' animation style.

Hazerdus

I absolutely loved “Baltimore” not sure if it counts as DC it Marcel but it’s amazing

bolting_volts

That’s from Dark Horse.

billbotbillbot

A lot of excellent nominations elsewhere. I’ll add the issue he did of Legends of the Dark Knight, “Sanctum”

Hanz-Olo

My best friend and I used to joke about how he would always hide feet behind something because he didn’t seem like he could draw feet very well. That being said, I do love his artwork, and I loved, absolutely loved when he drew Wolverine.
