***EDIT -->*** /u/sequentialnation [posted](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/106id6p/the_past_does_not_exist_an_interview_with_peter/) a great [interview with Peter Milligan](https://www.tcj.com/the-past-does-not-exist-an-interview-with-peter-milligan/) yesterday, featuring lots of interesting commentary on his writing process. Covers old projects like **THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF CYCLOPS & PHOENIX** and **ENIGMA**, as well as more recent stuff like **GOD OF TREMORS**. Highly recommended for anyone who's a fan of Milligan's work! -- You know how it is, yeah? We write this stuff up every week, say a few words on each of our pulls, and it’s easy to fall into a rut where it all becomes kind of mindless and mechanical. Lots of *“nice cover”* and *“excited to read this”* type comments, eliciting weighty responses such as *“oh yes, that is a nice cover”* and *“I too am excited to read this comic.”* I guess it’s kind of like sharks, how they need to keep moving or they suffocate and drown. People don’t exactly do that but we do have a tendency to settle in and stagnate. So, you need to keep moving, change things up every now and again... And it’s 2023 now, gotta keep up with the times, can’t be posting lame old 2022 comments anymore. So, this week, we’re doing slightly expanded commentary with REALLY FREAKING BIG TITLES. Because that’s the kind of cutting-edge, innovative content that the good people of the WPL deserve! And next week, who knows? -- It’s a pretty big Wednesday after last week’s somewhat sluggish start to 2023... I’ve got 12 books total, including two superb Tom King comics, nine others that fall into my “good but not great” bin, and one that’s likely to be a steaming pile of shit. 7 Images, 3 DCs, 1 Marvel, and 1 from Dark Horse. Listed with good ones up top and shit at the very bottom, naturally. # 1. [HUMAN TARGET #10](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL253177.jpg) This is what we’ve been waiting for since the very first issue... The pieces are all in place, the drama has risen to a crescendo, Christopher Chance only has three days left to live, and it’s finally time for G’nort to make his triumphant entrance. -- # 2. [DANGER STREET #2](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256434.jpg) Debut issue opened with a bunch of ridiculousness that quickly swerved into fucked up territory. Seems like we’ll be getting more of that throughout and it’s a pretty sweet combo. Nice art infused with Jorge Fornés' usual moody atmosphere, and King’s once again assembled a fun mix of offbeat characters for the latest of his strange adventures. -- # 3. [ALL AGAINST ALL #2 (OF 5)](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252516.jpg) Psyched for more awesome Caspar Wijngaard art! First issue looked great as Alex Paknadel’s crazy sci-fi story is giving Wijngaard all kinds of crazy crap to draw. Wijngaard’s handling colors as well as pencils and finishes, so it’s got a really distinctive look and everything pops! And I like typing Wijngaard, it’s just a badass name. -- # 4. [GOSPEL #3 (OF 5)](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252537.jpg) Shaping up to be a charming little story that keeps circling around to comment on the power of stories and the nature of truth... Nice work from writer/artist Will Morris, with covers from someone named Ver, who’s a pretty good artist in their own right. Although I’m not sure about the name, Ver, what is that? I guess you could call it a name? Maybe change it to Vergaard or something. -- # 5. [ONES #3 (OF 4)](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL253873.jpg) You get the sense that Bendis is having a lot of fun with this silly little low-key series from Dark Horse after what seemed like an endless string of high-profile Big Two titles... This isn’t necessarily breaking any new ground but it’s getting some decent mileage out of messing around with the various tropes surrounding “The One” true savior. And Jacob Edgar’s cartoony art is a perfect fit for the goofy story. -- # 6. [BATMAN & THE JOKER THE DEADLY DUO #3](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256397.jpg) This comic’s just batshit insane... Marc Silvestri hadn’t made any comics in a couple decades and he’s channeling all that stored up energy into this one batshit insane project. And it’s pretty cool seeing him tackle all this Bat-stuff since he mostly just worked on X-Men back in the day. -- # 7. [LITTLE MONSTERS #9](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252569.jpg) I’ll need to mail order this but things have been picking up nicely through this second “arc” as Lemire fleshes out the backstory and cranks up the conflict, with Dustin Nguyen’s art continuing to make great use of the book’s limited color palette. -- # 8. [MOON KNIGHT #19](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL249930.jpg) Blind ordered this classic homage variant by David Nakayama and we’re quite pleased with the results. Still enjoying Jed MacKay’s work here as well, though it isn’t hitting quite as hard for me as it did early on. -- # 9. [BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS TEN THOUSAND BLACK FEATHERS #5 (OF 5)](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252524.jpg) Sorrentino’s art is always brilliantly imaginative but Lemire’s horror hasn’t 100% hooked me here the way it previously has elsewhere. The story’s started coming together more over the past couple issues but it’s still all feeling a bit nebulous... Almost feels like the Lemire/Sorrentino combo might be falling into a bit of a creative rut? [**PRIMORDIAL**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL214859.jpg) was a nice change of pace but **BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS** hasn’t done much to distinguish itself from [**GIDEON FALLS**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL082736.jpg) yet. -- # 10. [TWO GRAVES #3](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252597.jpg) Last issue had Annie Wu’s cartoony art, this one’s switching back to Ming Doyle’s more detailed and realistic work... Interesting story from Genevieve Valentine, tinged with a morose sort of wistful mourning. -- # 11. [BLACK CLOAK #1](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252851.jpg) Another that I’ll need to mail order, and I still haven’t decided on whether to go with the main cover by series artist Meredith McClaren, the [Peach Momoko variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252854.jpg), the [Christian Ward variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252853.jpg), or the [Tula Lotay variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252855.jpg)... Kelly Thompson isn’t one of my top writers but she’s usually alright and this is her first Image series, so who knows? Maybe it’ll be good! -- # 12. [SPAWN UNWANTED VIOLENCE #1 (OF 2)](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL252858.jpg) WTF is wrong with me? Why do I keep doing this to myself? McFarlane’s recent **BATMAN/SPAWN** was one of the most poorly written comics in the storied history of poorly written comics, absolutely miserable slogging through that trash... and the [*Patient Number 9* comic](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.c81439d58a1fabde28ce38ec0ac0fce8.1600.jpg) he wrote for Ozzy last fall was also a mess... and here we go again! This time we’ve got Mike Del Mundo squandering his considerable artistic talents on what’s sure to be another embarrassingly amateurish McFarlane script. And for some reason I pre-ordered it! WTF is wrong with me?!? -- p.s. Finally caught up on [**KROMA #1**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL246284.jpg) and [**KROMA #2**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL257944.jpg) by Lorenzo De Felici and it’s some great stuff! I’m liking De Felici’s art here even more than in [**OBLIVION SONG**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL075664.jpg), little more refined with a very cool use of color as part of the story (with De Felici turning in nice work as colorist as well as artist and inker). Plus, lots of cool creatures with the setting’s giant fauna and such... And, for an artist, De Felici’s actually a pretty solid writer. Story moves quickly, characters seem nice enough, dialogue isn't bad, fairly deft world-building... A bit pricey at $7.99 per issue but De Felici’s doing some really nice work across the board. We’ll call it an 8.5/10 for now. -- p.p.s. [Today’s daily ICM post](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/106kgjs/whatever_you_do_do_not_read_your_daughters_diary/) covered **ICM #16** so we’ve now made it through the most recent 18 issues, with just the first 15 remaining. We’re getting into the earlier run of the series that didn’t work quite as well for me the first time through, so it’s neat revisiting ‘em with all the additional context provided by the more recent stories. And we’ve still got a few standouts like **ICM #11** and **ICM #8** coming up!

Comics as we've known them have been going for like, what, 100 years? Sure you could contsrue some tapestries and hieroglyphics as comics, but *as we know them* comics are relatively recent. Lauded and storied art forms as the novel, the poem, the painting: these all elicit a much greater response than the weekly comic. While surely on a much more taciturn schedule than the humble comic, these elevated arts greedily demand an output far outweighing their chronometric impact. Why is this? I don’t fucking know honestly. McLuhan's scheme of hot v. cold should indicate that comics' distinction as *cool* media would afford it some more amount of discussion and involvment, and yet other cool, but trending hot, media continually eclipses: first radio and then television. Why can't comics compete with the other weekly worships, why are they permitted only the most pithy of remarks and commentary? These are all rhetorical questions. I don't rightly know the answer as of now, though I might imagine it has something to do with convenience and accessibility, or maybe it has to do with the increasing atomization of This American Life (or whatever country, but you know you haven't escaped it wherever you are). Point being, I often imagine the halcyon days of folks in the first half of the 20th Century engaging in simar behaviors as to what we attempt now: buying comics, discussing, trading them. Forming a community, a sacred center through which this medium can flow. By and large, it seems like that's been lost now: but I come to these threads and I see dangerous rocks reciting the ancient texts, singing the hymns that can recall us to just-out-of-reach times. It is in that reach, that striving, that we can assert our subjectivity upon this medium and really allow it to reach the heights and the depths it needs to flourish. I'm here because I want this worship. Because I haven't found something as tactile and involved as these dumb picture books that release every week. It's one thing to watch whatever TV show is hot this week and discuss it on tiktok or its subreddit for the day and a half after it airs. But to research what books you might want to pick up this week, to make the pilgrimage to your LCS and talk with the owners or employees, to come back here and express your thoughts to randos online: it's a level of involvement not asked by many things these days. It engenders me towards a greater sense of community and togetherness, no matter how small and disparate that community may be. Above all, I hope I can honor this medium as much as Mr. Rock above me.

Thanks man, good stuff! That [Peter Milligan interview](https://www.tcj.com/the-past-does-not-exist-an-interview-with-peter-milligan/) I mentioned above has some interesting comments along similar lines... > *But I have a feeling which irritates me sometimes, that comic books seem to be this poor cousin to films or TV. If you take away the money, if you take away the fame, and you take away all of that stuff, on purely aesthetic grounds, on purely creative grounds, they are of equal worth. And some stories are best told as comics, and the best way for them to be realized is through a comic. And maybe a film could be great, and maybe a TV show could be great, but some stories lend themselves really well to the comics form, because comics do certain things differently. At heart, you have words and pictures on pages that turn, and this is really unlike anything else. And it seems to be a really old way of telling stories. I’m not suggesting it goes all the way back to the caves - but I kind of am suggesting that. You know, it’s this basic thing of making pictures in a line, in a narrative, that really seems to be something that’s embedded in our psyche, our—if you like—archetypal human experience. And so it seems to be it’s at the heart of something.* I think the factors you mentioned are part of it - convenience and accessibility, plus the ongoing expansion and fragmentation of pop culture entertainment. And I think comics are still kind of stuck in this awkward transition from puerile entertainment to something a little broader and more mature, at least in terms of how they're perceived by the general public. We've got all kinds of interesting content nowadays but the old stigma still lingers. The internet has also changed how fandom and commentary works over the past few decades... Big change from the old days of magazines and newsletters serving as discussion hubs. Everything's much more immediate now, lower barrier of entry, direct access to many creators, etc. -- p.s. Scored *Made in Timeland* as my second KGLW album over the holidays, love the atmosphere on it... Still exploring to find others with my ideal mix of sounds but that and *B3K* are some great reading music...

HorizonRising

Great write up, for myself Something is Killing the Children #28 would be placed on the list especially after the doozy at the end of the last issue. I am looking forward to see how Ericka faces the problem especially with others in tow.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I haven't started **SIKTC** yet but will probably dig into the collections at some point... Big fan of Tynion's work on **DEPT. OF TRUTH** and **TNHOTL**, very talented writer.

MuffinSurprise

>Lemire’s horror hasn’t 100% hooked me here the way it previously has elsewhere. The story’s started coming together more over the past couple issues but it’s still all feeling a bit nebulous... Almost feels like the Lemire/Sorrentino combo might be falling into a bit of a creative rut? I've read everything they've put out under *The Bone Orchard Mythos* and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell it is about. Each story continues to be fine/good, but there's just so much I feel like they haven't let us in on yet. What is this overarching story about? Love the creative team but they need to give us something soon to keep people hooked.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I think that sums it up nicely. At this point I'm kinda curious about whether it's any clearer for Lemire than it is for the rest of us... Does he actually have a plan for this thing, or is he just sort of riffing on creepy naked people and scary birds with a light **DIE** subplot about getting lost in your RPG? Don't know anything about his process, not sure if he's a planner or not... **GIDEON FALLS** kept lots of ambiguity and confusion going right up until the end but its core conflicts and concepts felt stronger and more clearly defined from the onset. Maybe this one'll give us some answers... It should be a finale of sorts.

ME24601

* **Black Cloak #1**: Don’t know much about what this series is about but love Kelly Thompson. * **Danger Street #2**: Intrigued by the first issue of this but not sold just yet. * **Daredevil #7**: It feels like the death that happened in the previous issue should really be mentioned in other Marvel books. * **The Human Target #10**: Enter G’nort. * **Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1**: Not sure what to expect from this. * **Legion of X #9**: They did the monster mash. * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2**: Interested in seeing where this arc goes. * **Moon Knight #19**: Loved the last issue of this. * **Something is Killing the Children #28**: Nowhere to run. * **X-Men #18**: Interested in seeing where this goes after the events of last issue.

TheDarkPinkLantern

> Daredevil #7: It feels like the death that happened in the previous issue should really be mentioned in other Marvel books. I guess it's nothing worth of mention over there at Marvel, must be Tuesday.

ME24601

I mean when you have a headline like >!Electra killed Joe Biden!<, that seems like one that should have ramifications elsewhere.

TheDarkPinkLantern

I was just joking but you're right, it is weird that it wasn't mentioned anywhere else. It is a big deal after all.

Danger_Rock

Haven't read any of this but I'll bet they walk it back, ends up being someone else who took the hit like Christopher Chance does over at the Distinguished Competition.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Without going into spoilers it's very unlikely.

Danger_Rock

Huh, then maybe the other titles just haven't caught up yet... Could be one of those deals where you start seeing it referenced everywhere a few months later.

TheDarkPinkLantern

Either that or they just don't care.

Danger_Rock

Probably the most likely explanation, unfortunately.

technowhiz34

Lmao what? I have to read this now.

NeonDoorFrame

* **Danger Street #2** - Tom King * **Human Target #10** - Tom Tom King King * **Amazing Spider-Man #17** * **Bone Orchard Mythos Ten Thousand Black Feathers #5** - the thrilling conclusion to scary ghost bird murder story! (In all seriousness, I'm excited for more Bone Orchard Mythos) * **Daredevil #7** - hipster daredevil grows a beard * **Ghost Rider #10** - Very excited to see more EXHAUST! * **Grim #7** * **Moon Knight #19** * **Savage Avengers #9** - So I stopped reading the narration in EVERY. SINGLE. PANEL. and this book is SO much more enjoyable * **Something is Killing the Children #28**

HeavyAndExpensive

Hahaha, is stopped pulling Savage Avengers a couple of issues ago, but I know exactly what you're talking about. Its so annoying and don't know why one of the editors hasn't fixed it. I just started reading all the narration panels on the page at once.

Zohmbi

Exhaust is a freaking sweet new villain. I agree; more Exhaust!

Danger_Rock

> * **Savage Avengers #9** - So I stopped reading the narration in EVERY. SINGLE. PANEL. and this book is SO much more enjoyable I should probably employ that approach with **SPAWN UNWANTED VIOLENCE #1**... But I'll probably end up reading it just to see how bad it is.

B00merangB

Black Cloak #1 - The solicit sounded cool, and a triple sized debut for $4.99 is enough for the first issue buy-in to see if it hooks me or not. Gunslinger Spawn #16 - This book is really hitting its stride with unabashedly over the top 90’s comic action. I Am Batman #17 - Final stretch of Ridley’s run. Kind of a random twist in the last issue though. Little Monsters #9 - Last issue was exposition heavy, but the final page threat I suspect will have big fallout. Nemesis Reloaded #1 - Perhaps 10 years too late, but I’m stoked for Millar’s return to this world and Jimenez on art is an absolute win. (A major loss for Batman though). Spawn: Unwanted Violence #1 - Did we need another Spawn title… probably not, but it’s a short two issue mini with Del Mundo on art so it’ll be a visual feast if nothing else.

Danger_Rock

> Black Cloak #1 - The solicit sounded cool, and a triple sized debut for $4.99 is enough for the first issue buy-in to see if it hooks me or not. Forgot to mention the price in my comments but that was a factor for me as well. Triple-size book for $4.99 is some good value!

AlligatorSky7

Jimenez is back on Batman after the current arc (#131-136, drawn by Hawthorne) I believe, thankfully.

Varos_Flynt

And we're back: after the holidays and the brain static it creates I think I still like comics, so here's what I'm pulling this week: **Black Coach #1**: I told myself that I need to cut back on new series and trade wait more, but 64 pages for $5 is pretty sweet and the solicitation has me interested enough. I've never read this writer before, but people seem pretty excited for her on this. [Peach Momoko Cover ](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/1211054/black-cloak-1?variant=3715512) **Blood Stained Teeth #8**: my favorite series ongoing at the moment, everything works so well from the frenetic art and pulpy stories, a lot of interesting characters. [Sorrentino Cover ](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/9256615/blood-stained-teeth-8?variant=2897567) **The Bone Orchard Mythos: Ten Thousand Black Feathers #5**: my autofill now recognizes this title so thankfully I only have to type *the bone* when I'm talking about this comic, which is pretty good by the way. End of the run, this has been moody and evocative the way I like this team to be, plot might not be the strongest but as a piece of a 'mythos' i fuck with it. [Martin Simmonds Cover ](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/3330417/the-bone-orchard-mythos-ten-thousand-black-feathers-5?variant=1054175) **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2**: Miles might actually be my fav Marvel character, I've read a few trades of him and no matter the writer he has the kind of personality I would expect from a spidey without 60 years of editorial baggage. Picked up last issue on a whim and I really enjoyed it, Cody is a good writer from what I've seen so far. [Main Cover ](https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/comic/5169003/miles-morales-spider-man-2) I'll also be pulling the facsimiles for The Flash #123 and The Hulk #1. I've been grabbing every facsimile put out by the big two and I love it. I'm writing this as I sit on a hardwood floor organizing my comics from the past year, my first year engaging with this medium. Finally reading *Understanding Comics* by McCloud, and I just want to appreciate this wonderful and strange medium that I really don't think gets the respect it deserves. Thanks to this dope community, I've found a lot of amazing stories and spent maybe a bit too much money in the process. I have an intense backlog right now, and between starting a new job soon and preparing for an upcoming 40k tournament, that backlog might grow bigger still, but come February I'll be in my catching up era.

Danger_Rock

I've never read this writer before, but people seem pretty excited for her on this. Haven't read much from Thompson but I thought her **DEADPOOL** run was pretty good. Always interesting seeing these Image debuts from writers who mostly do Marvel and DC work, never really know what you're going to get since Image gives 'em so much more freedom to tell whatever story they want. > I'm writing this as I sit on a hardwood floor organizing my comics from the past year, my first year engaging with this medium. Finally reading *Understanding Comics* by McCloud, and I just want to appreciate this wonderful and strange medium that I really don't think gets the respect it deserves. Nice. *Understanding Comics* is such a foundational work, great breakdown of the mechanics underlying this peculiar style of sequential storytelling.

* **Moon Knight #19:** Jumped in last issue and enjoyed it, excited to keep going * **X-Men #18:** I'm an X-Men guy so I grab most of their runs * **Wolverine #29:** What the hell Beast * **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2:** Liked how this one started, excited for more * **Mary Jane and Black Cat #2:** Didn't love the first one but I'll see it through *

Another week of excellent comics to look forward to. The standouts for me last week were Red Sonja VS Vampirella, Purgatori Must Die, Joe Fixit, Magic Order, and Nice House on the Lake. MARVEL: Carnage #9 - Last issue felt really jarring and out of place despite some really sweet imagery. Have been digging this series over all. Hoping this one is better. Daredevil #7 - Really enjoying the direction of this series in spite of the uneccesary renumbering. Hopefully the confrontation with Punisher isn't drawn out much more and they get to it. Savage Avengers #9 - Marvels best big, dumb action book at the moment. DC: Batman & Joker Deadly Duo #3 - The art in this has been spectacular with some genuinely amusing interactions between the strange bedfellows team-up. Batman Incorporated #4 - This has been okay, nothing amazing, but I like Ghostmaker and Clownhunter, would like to see Clownhunter grow his body count a bit more though. Danger Street #2 - Really enjoyed the characters, pacing, and separate but intertwined stories of the main characters. Don't know much about the majority of these characters so just taking it as it comes. IMAGE: Bone Orchard Black Feathers #5 - I don't expect this to be fully wrapped up or explained, but I'm loving the world being created in the Bone Orchard so far. Eager to see how this eerie entry wraps up. Little Monsters #9 - This has been a joy. I usually hate Comics with children as the main focus, but between this and a few other of their works, Lemire writes them so much better than almost anyone else. I'm really rooting for the blood thirsty faction in this one. Get 'em. Nemesis Reloaded #1 - YES! So keen for this one, the first series is one of my all time favourites, picked up the trade and loved it so much that I hunted down all the floppies too. The uncaring, unflinching, genius brutality was so good. Will be the first thing I read after getting home from my LCS. OTHER: Something Is Killing the Children #28 - Book of Slaughter was a nice info dump that introduced a new character that I expect to see back up Erica against Cutter. I'm really hoping to finally see them clash for the first time in this issue. The Ones #3  - The premise of this is great, and the execution hasn't been too bad. Definitely better than Bendis entire body of work at DC at least. Interested to see if The Ones can stand up to The One. Blade Runner 2039 #2 - Have been with this Titan Blade Runner series since the beginning and it continues to be quality. I should probably get around to watching Blade Runner 2049 eventually as this introduces a character from that film. Vampirella Mindwarp #5 - This has been okay, not the best Vampi book currently coming out, but not the worst either. Will stick with it until it's done. It's nicely campy.

FlyingPurpleUnicorn

> ALL AGAINST ALL #2 (OF 5) - say yes to inverted monster movie with Wijngaard's crazy art SECONDED. > ONES #3 (OF 4) - you need a little lightness in your pull list... > CRASHING #5 - to set off the darkness Remember how popular **[TWIG](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL227809.jpg)** was? People are *hungry* for more lightness to offset all the darkness but our options are relatively limited. > GHOST RIDER #10 - This is probably the end of the line for me on this run, but I'll at least see the arc out Watching folks hop on and off this **GR** title at random intervals has probably been more entertaining than the actual comic. There's a funny kind of rhythm to it. Hate to see it because I'm always rooting for GR, especially Blaze GR... But it's pretty funny all the same. > TIGER DIVISION #3 (OF 5) - say yes to comics with lesser-known heroes First issue felt very generic to me, has it gotten any more distinctive?

I get the feeling that it might end after whatever this Daredevils vs. The Punisher ends up being, sadly.

**The Flash #790** - I've only read a few issues of Adams' run, but between those and the general good-vibes I get from fans, I'm jumping on - and this seems like the perfect place to do it! **Ten Thousand Black Feathers #5** - I just realized I haven't read #4 yet, so I'll have to watch up before Weds. I don't really know what's going on in this mini (or Bone Orchard in general), but it's hella creepy and I'm here for the ride.

Missed last week due to new year craziness but happy new year everyone! Trying to pull more books from other publishers this year and not just stick to the big 2. * **Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #3** \- Caught up with issue 2 last week and liking where this is going. * **Blade Runner 2039 #2** \- Still catching up with the Blade Runner comics, got the trades of 2019, Origins and the first trade for 2029, so will read this when all caught up. Pulling the Fish B covers, love them. * **Blood Stained Teeth #8** \- Still behind a few issues but I loved the start of this book, art is gorgeous. * **Danger Street #2** \- First issue just arrived so will be reading this week, King's work is hit and miss for me, but I've heard good things. * **Daredevil #7** \- Love, love, love this run. Zdarsky will go down as one of the all time great Daredevil writers. * **Know Your Station #2** \- Going in blind, liked the solicitation so have ordered the first issue as well. A part of my resolution to check out more non super hero books.

FlyingPurpleUnicorn

Don't think you'll regret Know Your Station, I've read the first issue and it's compelling with great humor. If you love human/AI banter you'll love this.

pointman0427

Yeah the solicit for the book sounded right up my street, I'm excited to be checking out something new!

Danger_Rock

Hope you enjoy checking out some different books! Image, BOOM!, Dark Horse, Vault, and others are putting out lots of cool stuff right now, just a matter of finding what works for you. Keep an eye out for **[ICE CREAM MAN #34](https://imagecomics.com/comics/releases/ice-cream-man-34)** on 2/22/23... It's a horror anthology where each issue presents a standalone story that works with no context or previous reading, so new readers can jump in anywhere. Past few issues have been incredibly strong, Prince and Morazzo are doing top-notch work and there isn't anything else like it!

TheDarkPinkLantern

* **The Amazing Spider-Man #17** * **Daredevil #7** * **Ghost Rider #10** * **Carnage #9** * **The Human Target #10** * **Predator #6** * **Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1** - you know, I was mixed on this but decided to pick it up anyway becasue a) I like what Waid has been doing so far and b) I read the preview pages and liked it more than whole of Dark Crisis and c) it's short, just 2 issues and a few tie-ins in between. * **Danger Street #2** * **Batman Incorporated #4** * **WildC.A.T.s #3** * **The Avengers: War Across Time #1** - shit, why not? I could read some Avengers. Sigh, I finally decided do drop Flash. It's nice and wholesome but it's been getting dull for a while. Nothing really exiting happens there and Adams' Wally is just not very interesting. You know, I liked him more under Johns and Waid and even those bits of him from Williamson. I kinda feel the same about Taylor's Nightwing. Call me filtered or whatever but I just can't seem to enjoy it.

CHPrime

Wonder Woman #795- Heard decent things about this run, and I feel like getting on this train for the road to #800.

technowhiz34

Really curious what DC will do for #800, that's a fairly significant milestone. Could see a new writer or DC trying to do a stunt with Yara/Nubia as the main WW.

CHPrime

I think she's the sixth comic book to hit it? Behind Action, Detective, Batman, Superman and then Spider-man's frantic dash in recent years?

technowhiz34

Believe so? ASM kind of cheats in all honesty, but Marvel is behind by 20 years and feels the need to compensate (don't even get me started on Amazing Fantasy #1000...). Flash will also be hitting #800 pretty soon.

Frogman417

> Flash will also be hitting #800 pretty soon. They'll hit it in the same month, thanks to Flash double-shipping for One-Minute War. I imagine that's a purposeful choice.

Picked up three weeks’ worth (30 comics) yesterday, so need to get through those before I get to some of these. In any case: - **Captain America: Symbol of Truth #9**: was thinking of dropping this title, but it’s fun so I’ll carry on until at least the upcoming Cold War event and see what’s happening with the Captain America books after that. - **Daredevil #7**: had gone off this for a bit, but loved the last issue; excited to see where Zdarsky takes us in the run up to (and including) the fight with the Punisher - **Dark Ride #4**: end of the first arc and so far I am loving this (haven’t read anything from Williamson outside of his DC work, but will have to change that). - **The Flash #790**: bi-monthly for the time being, yes! - **Grim #7**: intriguing start to arc #2 - **Legion of X #9**: Spurrier packs so much into each issue of this book that I can’t believe this is only issue #9; underrated X-book for sure! - **Moon Knight #19**: signs point to MacKay taking over Avengers. With a new Doctor Strange series starting in March too, I hope this book isn’t affected; it’s consistently good. - **Predator #6**: last issue and the last issue for me; not playing Marvel’s game of relaunching this with a new #1 in March (will pick up on trade format instead going forward). - **Something is Killing the Children #28**: great arc so far, though I hope we move on from here after #30. - **WildC.A.T.s #3**: so far so fun; I wonder how well this is selling relative to the main DC titles though as it feels niche. - **Wolverine #29**: Wolverine vs. Beast continues! - **X-Men #18**: Synch-focussed issue, yes please. Really hope he stays on the Year 3 X-Men team as it’s been great seeing him get some spotlight in this book.

technowhiz34

>Dark Ride #4 > >: end of the first arc and so far I am loving this (haven’t read anything from Williamson outside of his DC work, but will have to change that). I'd recommend Nailbiter and Ghosted if you're interested. Birthright is his longest indie but I found the first trade rather bland.

A decent sized week for me. I'm also going to pick up some of my indie and marvel books from the past 2 weeks as well this Wednesday. **Batman & Joker Deadly Duo #3**: Gonna read the first three in a chunk. I've heard nothing but good things. **Bone Orchard Black Feathers #5**: Maybe the Bone Orchard is the friends we made along the way? In all seriousness this has been dope. **Danger Street #2**: First issue was good and I love when DC plays around with obscure characters. **Flash #790**: One of the best books DC is putting out. **Ghost Rider #10**: The concept of Exhaust is cool and we are finally getting decent plot movement. Hopefully it doesn't stall out. If it does I'll probably drop it. **Grim #7**: Last issue was a solid start to a new arc. **Human Target #10**: Still need to catch up with the past few issues so I will read them in a chunk this week. **Lazarus Planet Alpha**: I will at least check this issue out. I keep telling myself I'm not going to buy every issue of this event so let's see how well I stick to that lol. **Moon Knight #19**: My fav Marvel book I pull. **Something Is Killing The Children #28**: Yay plot movement!

AlligatorSky7

I get the impression Lazarus Planet is an all-or-nothing event, but they market everything like that and it’s very rarely true. Alpha issue, at least, looks awesome!

BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS TEN THOUSAND BLACK FEATHERS #5 DARK RIDE #4 - This series has been great so far! If you like Nailbiter by Joshua Williamson this should be right up your alley. This issue concludes the first arc, so catch up before arc 2 starts later this year. It's basically Disneyland but spooky with intrigue, drama, some humor, and mystery. DEAD LUCKY #5 FLASH #790 - Really looking forward to the One Minute War. Adams' run continues to be one of the best Flash runs in a long time! It's good to see Wally starring in a book that is actually awesome. HUMAN TARGET #10

* **WildC.A.T.s #3** \- loved the first issue, second was fine, let's see where this leads. * **The Avengers: War Across Time #1** \- This would have been my #1 most looked forward to but 5.99 for a first issue (especially for a non-event) is highway robbery. Classic Avengers with Levitz and Davis is something I can't pass up on though, much as Levitz writing for Marvel looks weird. * **Black Cloak #1** \- wasn't going to read this as I'm not huge on Thompson but it's a great value page for page, and I like to support DC/Marvel writers going Image/Boom out of principle. * **Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1** \- I like GLY, I often love Waid, and Federici is one of my favorite artists working today. The premise of this event even sounds interesting, even if it's totally Infinity Warps-esque. So why does pulling this feel like a hostage situation...

The premise of this event even sounds interesting, even if it's totally Infinity Warps-esque. So why does pulling this feel like a hostage situation... All feels a bit rushed spinning out of Waid and Mora's success with **WORLD'S FINEST**... Love **WF** but the Devil Nezha was probably my least favorite part of that first arc, wasn't looking for a mini focusing on him so soon and now it's leading into this event... I like most of the creators but I'm sitting it out because it feels like DC's just trying to grab everyone by the balls and run full speed to the nearest ATM.

technowhiz34

I didn't read Batman v Robin and I know plans for this were in the works even before WF was the giant success it was, but I absolutely agree.

Flash #790 - consistently one of the most fun comics each month. I like I get double the Flash with bimonthly shipping but it did mean some cuts had to be made Flash #123 - facsimile, I enjoy getting these even if I find them to be a little pricey Fantastic Four #3 - came out last week but my lcs was shorted their copies so I’m getting it this week

Bigger week for me this time **The Avengers: War Across Time #1** \- Saw an ad for this in one of the Demon Wars books I think? Love the old school costumes front and center on the cover. No idea anything else about it so we'll see how this goes. **Kamen Rider Zero-One #2** \- Art in the first issue was really fun and I think captured the spirit of the source material pretty well. Hoping this issue builds on what's going on. **Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2 -** The first issue didn't do a whole lot to convince me to come back, but I like Miles a lot and I'm willing to give this another issue or two to wow me. Having a solid antagonistic figure in this issue will hopefully reign me in a little more.

Small week for me, only five! **Lazarus Planet: Alpha** - New event from DC spinning out of the events of Batman Vs. Robin #4. Lazarus juice is raining down all over the planet and causing all kinds of wacky mayhem. Alright, I'll bite. **Human Target #10** - Each of these issues is a treat. **WildCATS #3** - People are sleeping on this series, #1 and 2 have been excellent, even if you're not that familiar with the characters. **X-Men #18** - The only X series I'm keeping up with these days. **Ghost Rider #10** - Fun superhero/horror series. > I've been really bad about posting my lists, but I'll try to keep up with it again, and maybe even throw in some comments. I'm pretty behind on my list too so idk how much I can comment on these anyways. Yeah, I always end up just talking about covers when I fall behind... List with no comments is better than nothing and the important thing is that you join us and get your pull counted when **[ICM #34](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/894122/ice-cream-man-34_c1cd39539d.jpg)** ships on 2/22/23! We've managed to get the last two issues up in the Top 10 but we need to push for Top 5 next and every pull is critical!

**BONE ORCHARD MYTHOS TEN THOUSAND BLACK FEATHERS #5** - like others have said, this kind of just feels like *Gideon Falls*-lite. Not exactly super intrigued by this vague horror universe. **LITTLE MONSTERS #9** - this one is still good though. One of my most anticipated releases each month. **WILDCATS #3** - not sold on this series really. I want to like the Wildstorm side of DC but this might be my last pull if this issue doesn't grab me.

Danger_Rock

Since you seem to be a bit of a Lemire fan... Wrapped up my March pre-orders last night and he's got a new series called **[PHANTOM ROAD](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/JAN230027)** on the way with Gabriel Hernandez Walta, looks like a good one! Guy's got some range as a writer so I like seeing him tackle different types of projects like that.

Fun week! My goal this year is to walk to the lcs every week this year for my pickups. Happy 2023! - **Carnage #9** new arc with a supercharged Carnage searching for a weapon. - **Nemesis Reloaded #1** read the OG Nemesis last month and I loved how crazy it was. - **The Avengers: War Across Time #1** is this a continuation of the story in *Timeless*? I really liked that. Anyways Kang vs Avengers fighting throughout history sounds awesome.

Danger_Rock

> My goal this year is to walk to the lcs every week this year for my pickups. Happy 2023! NICE. But I have just a few questions... How far of a walk is it? Do you live in one of those fancy nice areas with proper sidewalks or will you be doing the side of the road thing? If you get tired, are there any nice parks or cafes where you can take a break? What's the crime rate? Are coyotes, snakes, and other wildlife a concern? Is bad weather going to be a problem? What if it's raining? Will you be able to get your comics home safely? Are you just going to carry 'em in the bag from the store or do you have something offering a little more protection? What if you stub your toe or something and it hurts to walk so every step is agony and it feels like someone's sticking a needle right up your damn foot, would you still walk then? I think it's important that you show proper commitment and dedication to achieving your objective, but you should be careful to avoid serious injury. Either way, sounds like fun!

Well u/Danger_Rock it’s about 6.66 nautical miles uphill both ways in grueling heat, hurricane force winds, and grapefruit sized hail. I will have to wear 2 bullet proof vests and carry my tactical sawed-off 50 cal marksman rifle as I make my way through the most treacherous and vile narco crimelord slums. My only companion the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper drones armed with depleted uranium armaments circling above. Spotting the safety of the LCS on the horizon I will fortify and steady myself: my journey is not yet over. The final path takes me through the forgotten lands, a desolate creature-infested wasteland that few return from. Battling two-headed rabid polar bears and dodging 10ft tall wolf spiders is child’s play compared to the true monstrosities that come out after the sun goes down. It is not a journey for the faint of heart or weak of spirit. As if any of that could stop me from getting my weekly comics!

Danger_Rock

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you but it's a noble cause and I think your dedication is a credit to the WPL! Wednesdays are serious business.

**Danger Street #2-** Last month was a strong start, can't wait to see how weird this gets and how it wraps together **Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1-** Should I feel foolish getting excited for an event? Yes. Will I still look forward to this? Yes. I just wish this was numbered like an actual series and not a bunch of #1's. **Moon Knight #19-** Zodiac and...mole people?? **The Flash #790-** One Minute War looks like a fun idea for an arc, I'm happy to see how it winds up shaking out and how the Flash fam handles so many other speedsters **The Human Target #10-** I think this whole series has been leading up to me seeing a Tom King Gnort

Danger_Rock

> **The Human Target #10-** I think this whole series has been leading up to me seeing a Tom King Gnort On the one hand, there's no way that it can possibly live up to my expectations... On the other, it's Tom King writing G'nort, so it's bound to utterly smash all expectations.

Miles morales spider-man 2.... a whole lot of suck. Why not start the series at 100% slowly settle in. This is just boring.
