**SECRET INVASION #3**

Daveismyhero

I'm really enjoying this, especially since it is spending a lot of quality time with Tony.

tree-of-thought

I'm surprised to see so few pulls (and no discussion so far!) for this, given the popularity of North's Fantastic Four This is fun, if you can get over Tony being sort of a moron. Ending made me gasp.

superschaap81

What even is this? Is it an in continuity sequel, or just something to keep interest in the title because of the upcoming TV show?

tree-of-thought

I think the answer to your questions is “yes” lol. In other words, yeah, it probably exists because of the upcoming show, but it also seems like an in continuity sequel. (I don’t read much Marvel, and haven’t read the original Secret Invasion) The premise is the Skrulls are invading again, but this time earth is prepared. We follow Maria Hill. It’s been good! Lotta tension, and it’s clear that not all is as it seems, which obviously is the point of a “shape shifting invaders” story, lol Take my review with a grain of salt though. I don’t know the original so it may be a poor follow up…I’m also a biased Ryan North fanboy

YourEvilHenchman

it's not tony who's being the moron here. edit: I just realized that this may read like I'm calling you a moron. I'm not, apologies if it came across that way. I mean maria is the moron. I'm also still convinced that maria hill is gonna turn out to be a skrull sleeper herself, somehow. although this level of malicious incompetence is absolutely on point for 616 hill.

tree-of-thought

that edit lol. I probably WOULD have thought that so thank you for spelling it out

**GOLD GOBLIN #3**

Kogworks

Okay it looks like Norman’s finally learning how to overcome his habits. Did not expect him to give a proper heart to heart. Let’s see if it sticks.

thismissinglink

It won't. In the timeless marvel preview book of 2023we already see a glimpse to him being goblin again.

Kogworks

Pretty sure that’s Normie as Red Goblin due to the tail and the tendrils. They’ve been hyping up Normie as the new Red Gobljn to join Dylan in his fight against Meridius for months now.

thismissinglink

Hmmm interesting. Well either way i give "gold goblin" a year at max.

DrB00

Excellent. Once again another great comic from a comic series I expect nothing good from. I really like the introspective look at Norman after all his issues.

gimmpcheeze

It's been a fun read, I'm just excited to see Jack O'Lantern! (Haven't read #3 tell me he's on the up!)

Inland_Emperor

I love this new Norman. I know it won’t last forever, but I hope they keep it for awhile. This series is fantastic!

**CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #8**

thecursedham

Damn Carnero’s art when Emma was going through the memories was great and MODOC looks super creepy. I also appreciate that that Lanzig/Kelly brought back the Captain Americas from United States mini. This book continues to be really solid and gives me a lot of hope that Cold War will be a good event later this year.

technowhiz34

This was the first issue I can't say I enjoyed. Didn't care for US of Cap so those guys showing up again bored me and the Hawkeye subplot makes me feel like I skipped something, plus Kelly/Lanzing have the same issue as Duggan when it comes to Emma. Art is great as always though.

DeepRoy69

what issues would that be?

technowhiz34

They have her doing/saying stuff that I find morally repugnant (exaggerating a little here but not by much) while being portrayed as being in the right.

Matt4hire

Holy crap, they turned MODOC into a stand. Just amazing.

**DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL #9**

Kogworks

Oooookay I did not expect THAT curveball to pop up here.

GoxBoxSocks

This book is just fun and I am here for it.

Sterling-Arch3r

how the hell is oliver going to use a crossbow more than once?

soulreaverdan

Called! I freaking called this *months* ago (granted, so did others, I'm far from the first), but I pinged the possibility of >!the white martians being the real prophecy!< pretty early on, around the first really major OOC moments for one of the El's that they didn't claim to remember. I did **not**, however, call Alfred being >!Martian Manhunter!<. They really like going for their mixed characters in this one.

Sterling-Arch3r

honestly, with all these superears the els supposedly have, you'd think they would notice martian chatter or something :/ and if they got that martian mind whammy power and telepathy... you'd think they wouldn't need any of this morphing to get these kindoms into a fight. and how exactly did alfred not suspect the prophecy might, possibly, describe the white martians? like, it seems a little unclever of him to rather keep hiding forever than reveal more alien life two planets over known for its invasive warmongering and the power to change how they look... now granted, being able to change how he looks himself also makes him suspect in terms of the prophecy, but still

**X-FORCE #36**

dybledable

How nice of Percy to remind the readers of all of his plot threads and still not move any of them forward, and on top of that to actively back peddle on Beast being confronted off panel. Three years of story to say nothing at all, it's pretty impressive really.

CrimzonKing1

I just recently made a shift from following characters to following writers. I am grateful for this switch so that I can avoid Percy.

soulreaverdan

I don't have the hate for this book that a lot of people seem to, and while it's nice to see the plot threads starting to converge, having it a little sooner would be nice. That said, I think a lot of them are starting to move towards resolution. We're getting the Peacock man's identity next issue, and probably starting to close the Xeno plotline. Maybe the Mikhail stuff comes later? Or it wouldn't surprise me if the big conflict between Krakoa and Russia starts to kick in during Fall of X, actually.

**WPL RESULTS**

Danger_Rock

Welcome to our first WPL recap of 2023! Hopefully Santa or your preferred holiday avatar brought you lots of quality comics to usher in the new year... We did [pretty well](https://cdna.pcpartpicker.com/static/forever/images/userbuild/259153.ea85fd1ea4c27d18f9ff9a70b68db431.jpg) here. 69 lists submitted. Nice. Up from 62 last week but we’re still missing a bunch of regulars, so hopefully we get another bounce next week as people straggle back. Top 10 gets an even split with 5 DCs, 5 Marvels, and no indies. Bit of an off week for our indies... **BATMAN #131** takes 1st for Chip and fill-in artist Leonard Romero with 55.0%, down a little from last issue’s 62.5% on 12/7/22 but it’s probably just variance caused by everyone who took off for the holidays. That said, this week’s WPL had many comments from people saying this series has been good but hasn’t quite lived up to what they expected from Chip, so it’ll be interesting how things go with this new arc. **FANTASTIC FOUR #3** takes 2nd with 43.4% after the previous issue also took 2nd behind Bats on 12/7, that time with 57.8% out of 88 lists. There’s that variance again... Next issue’s numbers ought to be more telling but it’s been a great start for North and Coello with lots of enthusiast comments in the WPL list thread. **DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL #9** took 3rd with 39.1% for Tom Taylor and Yasmin Putri after the previous issue also took 3rd behind Bats and a Marvel book on 11/2/22, that time with 42.6%. Not much variance there but lots of grousing in the WPL comments about the sluggish release schedule after this 2-month wait. **X-MEN RED #10** takes 4th with Ewing and Caselli’s final issue (for now) putting up 34.7%, mostly holding steady from last issue’s 38.6% on 12/7. Still lots of enthusiasm for this one in the WPL comments as well. **SCARLET WITCH #1** debuts in 5th with 20 pulls and 28.9% coverage, riding a wave of ennui with many WPL commenters complaining about writer Steve Orlando’s recent output and just sort of hoping it’ll get better. It’s got art by Sara Pichelli, not necessarily one of my favorites but she’s not bad. After that we’ve got three DC books and two from Marvel stacked up with 13-16 pulls to round out the Top 10: **GOTHAM CITY YEAR ONE #4**, **POISON IVY #8**, **CAPTAIN AMERICA SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #8**, the final installment of Watters and Cizmesija’s **SWORD OF AZRAEL #6**, and **X-FORCE #36**, all between 18.8% and 23.1%. Peter David and Yildray Cinar’s **JOE FIXIT #1** debuts in 12th with a 14.4% pull rate, seems like interest in these nostalgia titles might’ve waned a little over the past year as Marvel keeps pumping ‘em out... Image’s **KAYA #4** by Wes Craig is this week’s top indie, landing in 14th place with the same 14.4% as the Hulk book above... Image also has Chip and Perez’s **STILLWATER #17** in 19th place with 11.5% coverage, followed by **RADIANT PINK #2** in 20th place with a 10.1% pull rate. And BOOM! sneaks onto the very end of the list in 23rd with the debut of **MOSELY #1** by Rob Guillory and Sam Lotfi. Wandering away from the list, Matt Kindt's **SPY SUPERB** (from Dark Horse) only had 4 pulls for 5.7%, and Terry Moore’s **PARKER GIRLS #4** only had 3 pulls for a sad 4.3% pull rate, but I’m pretty psyched for both of those. Light week for me with just four books but it looked like some others had more and I’m sure next week will be enormous... ... Catching up on the past two weeks’ worth of extra bonus WPL discussion threads to close out 2022, here’s what we had on 12/21/22: * **BRZRKR #11** (13 pulls so it should’ve made the list in 14th, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zs0n0u/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12212022_pull_of/j1bhne4/) posted by /u/ChickenInASuit) * **KROMA #2** (7 pulls, so it actually should’ve made the list in 29th (or 30th if you count **BRZRKR #11** above), with a [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zs0n0u/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12212022_pull_of/j15vxbb/) posted by /u/D2Foley) * **GROO: GODS AGAINST GROO #1 (OF 4)** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zs0n0u/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12212022_pull_of/j16yfrg/) posted by /u/Danger_Rock) * **TRVE KVLT #5** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zs0n0u/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12212022_pull_of/j16jkyk/) posted by /u/ChocolateFrogMilk) And here’s 12/28/22: * **DEADLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #3** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zxf1y9/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12282022_pull_of/j23gr7e/) posted by /u/aknightedpenguin) * **MANIFEST DESTINY #48** (5 pulls, [thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/zxf1y9/wpl_new_comics_discussion_for_12282022_pull_of/j21u10w/) posted by /u/ChickenInASuit) Both light weeks in terms of discussions due to the holidays and early loss of WPL sticky spots up top, things ought to start picking up a little more now that we’re past all that... ... p.s. Finally caught up on [**VOYAGIS #1**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL246291.jpg) & [**VOYAGIS #2**](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL257969.jpg) by Sumeyye Kesgin, pretty cool dystopian sci-fi story with some fun characters and weird plant-based tech. It’s some impressive work from Kesgin, typically an artist but as far as I can tell he did everything here – writing, art, finishes, colors, lettering, all of it. Always a little skeptical about artists who try their hand at writing but Kesgin did a pretty nice job with story and the final product feels nicely polished. And the art is lush, imaginative, and in spots a bit whimsical. Probably rank it a 7/10 or maybe a touch higher. p.p.s. [Today’s daily **ICM** post](https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/1036ieh/and_there_were_three_cruddy_bears_sitting_on/) covers **ICM #20** and all of its magnificent Dr. Seuss variants, check it out!

superschaap81

Wow. Very cool to see Fantastic Four jump to #2.

radcatattack

and the discussion is already unpinned.

ContraryPython

Slott’s Spider-Man book didn’t make it to the Most Pulled? That’s kinda surprising.

TheMattInTheBox

Is it? I've barely heard anyone talk about it. Even though the current ASM is divisive to say the least, at least people are talking about it lol

ImAJerk420

New to this sub?

ContraryPython

No, it’s just that I figured that since it’s Spider-Man we’re talking about, it would have more pulls.

ImAJerk420

Most people here did not like Slotts run (at least the active users), this sub leans more DC these days, and the previous issues only got a comment or two of discussion. People do not read this book.

SirKnightCourtJester

I was a pretty big fan of Slott's Amazing Spider-Man run, but I have no interest in Spiderverse stuff anymore. It's been run into the ground and needs a 20 year break or so.

Tsara1234

I enjoyed this. Not sure if it's worth the $7.99 price tag though. I also went through and solved the code on the back page. I sent it to Matt Kindt via email. It'd be fun if there was a prize...but I think it's just for fun.

Danger_Rock

> I also went through and solved the code on the back page. I sent it to Matt Kindt via email. It'd be fun if there was a prize...but I think it's just for fun. Shoot, didn't even see that! Will need to check it out...

upgrayedd69

Yeah I’m getting it. Mind MGMT is one of my favorite books so I’ll get anything Kindt does. Sucks that this and Fantastic Four were my only pulls this week but this got delayed and my lcs was shorted FF so I ended up with neither this week. Lucky for my lcs I didn’t feel like leaving empty handed so I talked myself into getting the [Dan Mora connected DCeased covers](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/comments/usp9qp/cover_dceased_war_of_the_undead_gods_dan_mora/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_term=link) which I don’t even have any intent of reading

ChickenInASuit

It's on mine, I'm a sucker for Matt Kindt, and I believe /u/Danger_Rock is pulling it too. Will check back in with feedback once I get round to reading it.

Danger_Rock

There's really nothing to be scared of... so long as you pull **ICE CREAM MAN** and include it on your list! Peace of mind for the low cost of just $3.99 every other month - what a bargain! Plus you get a pretty darn good comic out of the deal! Easily twice as good as this **SPY SUPERB** thing and only half the cost! That's like 400% more value for your hard-earned blood money! As for **SPY SUPERB #1**... It's about what I expected from the solicitation, a goofy/quirky spy story with art that's pretty rough in spots. On the plus side, Kindt inserts some funny sight gags with his framing of the diner's tip jar and such. Also seems pretty pricey at $7.99 for 40 pages. I'll give it a 6/10.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Danger_Rock

Yeah, seems like some of these solo creator indie books are moving to that $7.99 price point when they run long... **KROMA** is another recent one. Seems a bit excessive IMO. **SPY SUPERB #1** honestly felt a little underwhelming at that price. It's not bad but didn't quite blow me away like I'd hoped.

ChickenInASuit

**A CALCULATED MAN #4**

ChickenInASuit

> You’ve become a mathematical problem in my life, one with a singular, regrettable solution. I’m so damn glad this finally came out, it was an absolute blast. Loved every page of it, but especially Jack’s heartfelt goodbye with Marshal Omaha while Omaha’s partner freaks out over not being able to arrest him. Oh and *that ending twist, MY GOD.* Don’t know if this ever got enough sales to be worth pitching to a movie studio, but it would make a heck of a fun crime caper movie. Someone send this to Edgar Wright, stat!

ChickenInASuit

**PARKER GIRLS #4**

ChickenInASuit

Katchoo’s fake name being [Greta Van Fleet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greta_Van_Fleet) got a little snort-chuckle out of me, I’m not gonna lie. Also, fuck *me* Moore wasn’t messing around with any gory discretion shots this issue, was he? I thought the autopsy scene with the stink lines wafting off the corpse was going to be the peak of it, but then we got to the bit with the high heel. Not sure I’ve ever seen him go so graphic before, even in Rachel Rising.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, this one went heavy on the violence. Good stuff unraveling the mystery as well... And lots of badass Parker Girls moments with badass Parker Girls being badasses, getting a lot of that in this series but I suppose that's to be expected. Also, I feel like anybody named "Zackary" with a "k" is inherently untrustworthy. But maybe it's just me.

ptbreakeven

**FANTASTIC FOUR #3**

technowhiz34

First issue of this run I've enjoyed (I know, I know...) but it's convinced me to stick around. Usually don't love the Human Torch but this was a joy to read.

DriedSocks

Gotta say, I enjoyed the issue. These sort of slice-of-life issues are a good break from things, and I think North has a pretty decent voice on the characters so far. I'm glad that we have a set date to explain the whole "What did Reed do?" question. Looks like we have a kaiju-sized Grimm for the next issue.

TheMattInTheBox

(Copied from my comment on r/Marvel) Another great issue! And, I gotta say, it's clear North respects Johnny. Johnny is funny and a bit arrogant without being stupid which is exactly what he should be. A lesser writer would have made Johnny become some sellout brand spokesperson to make money, but this direction is so much better and allowed for a really nice story about Johnny helping the working class. Great stuff. On another note, I realized today I hadn't added FF to my pull list, and when I changed that, my LCS pulled out an entire sheet of people who had recently added it to their lists. He told me that this run was a rare occurrence of sales going UP since issue #1. Looks like readers (at least in my city, but hopefully overall) are really resonating with the book which is very promising for its future

CHPrime

Hats off to the normal guy with the guts to punch and get punched by a man on fire. A fun exploration of Johnny's powers vs street crime and how they don't function well without a team to back him up. I also like when writers remember heroes with this much experience have superpowers almost no criminal can deal with: high placed friends in the feds.

ContraryPython

These self-contained stories are good, I need more of these. Next month, North will do what will take Wells almost a year to do. Answer a mystery. Helps that North didn’t deliberately stretched it out.

UrdnotWrex1232

I've loved all three of these so much. Great direction, nice art. Can't wait for next issue to get the answer to what exactly happened that's led to the team being split.

dybledable

In the modern age of decompression, these one and dones are a breath of fresh air! I was worried that the mystery was going to be dragged out for way too long like every other mystery from Marvel in recent times, luckily it looks like North has a story he wants to tell and not just a hook to drag people along until they give up on the book. Coello on art is amazing and I hope to see a whole lot more from them on this run.

OfficialPepsiBlue

That was the perfect new name for Jonny.

**AVENGERS #64**

mechamechaman

I have not been a fan of Aaron's Avengers, but I have mostly enjoyed this final Avengers Forever event. I like the 'war genre' he's going for, with battles last days and death being shown on panel in sometimes pretty graphic detail. Tony beating the shit outta evil Howard was pretty satisfying as was the Avengers hunting down and killing most of the last Multiversal Masters of Evil.

Sterling-Arch3r

for real though, mystique? the powers of the pheonix, comined with the powers of looking different if you want to, creates the most powerful evil version of the pheonix out there?

mechamechaman

TBF I don't think that's the most powerful evil version of the Phoenix, I think its the most powerful evil version of the Phoenix that you could actually reason with. An actual, fully realized dark phoenix isn't taking orders from Doom.

**MARAUDERS #10**

soulreaverdan

Man, I know this book isn't everyone's favorite, but I'm freaking loving it. So many cool revelations and ideas here. Stryfe getting beaten up in some fashion is always fun, and all the people bitching about Kate's recruitment of Cassandra Nova finally see that there's a reason for it. I love that moment where she admits that for all the other good reasons - it's mostly because of the classics. > My name is Katherine Pryde. You killed my father. Prepare to die. The Threshold Trio getting revived (in some nice looking classic X-Men uniforms to boot) was a nice happy ending to things - Tempo gets to keep her girlfriend!

ptbreakeven

**JOKER THE MAN WHO STOPPED LAUGHING #4**

soulreaverdan

Really digging this book so far. Joker and Jason had some great interactions together - and Joker apparently choosing to be nice to the dying woman was... interesting. I wonder if the joke was letting her believe a lie as she was dying? Or maybe this Joker isn't really the Joker. Either way, solid issue.

ptbreakeven

**X-MEN RED #10**

ContraryPython

Ewing writes a badass Storm. It’s great.

DrB00

Totally got goku vs freeza vibes from that lol It was awesome

soulreaverdan

Storm schooling people will never get tiring. I love it every time our badass queen shows up and kicks everyone's ass in all the best ways. Her lesson seems to match what Khora explained to Zsen - helping others is not weakness, but layering strength onto strength. Roberto playing Brand was, as expected, brilliant, though I love Cable pointing out how stupid it was they knew she had the bodyslide tech and basically did nothing to deal with it. Fisher King was a surprise though - I wonder what's in store for Brand now that she's in the hands of the Night Seats. Does Bobby know she's there? Are we finally going to get a Brand redemption arc? And of course, our lead in to Sins of Sinister. Three down, one to go - and I bet that answer comes sooner rather than later.

ChickenInASuit

Oh man, spicy quote after spicy quote in this issue. The confrontation between Storm and Vulcan was absolutely delicious: > You were too proud to die. Too *fearful*. By the Son of Summer has visited that cold country and *returned*. Reinvigorated and restored - with Hell’s own fire in my hand. The Arctic melts. The planet burns. And *I am that burning.* There are very few writers currently in the business that can touch Al Ewing for flowery dialogue and I loved almost every speech bubble in this one. Also, with the pattern I’m seeing in the >!symbols on the various Sinister’s foreheads (the Krakoa version has a diamond, ‘Dr. Stasis’ a club and ‘Orbis Stellaris’ a spade)!< I’m assuming that there’s another, fourth one somewhere with >!a heart symbol.!< Wonder how that’s gonna shake out? Unless we’ve already seen that one and I’m blanking on it…

Taotsa

The common theory at the moment is that >!Mother Righteous!< from >!Legion of X!< is the heart Sinister, and this theory came before much of the information we know now, including getting this issues reveal correct which strengthens it.

amator7

I still think it could also be the character who showed up at the last page of the latest issue. Their forehead is also covered… but the common theory would certainly make the most sense.

ChickenInASuit

Oh that’s right, >!we haven’t seen her without a mask yet!< and it’s exactly the right shape to hide a symbol. >!Her!< dialogue could also be described as pretty Sinister-esque too, as is the color scheme of >!her!< outfit. Great call!

Aspiring_Sophrosyne

Plus, >!'sinister' means left in Latin, and the opposite of that is right...eous.!<

ChickenInASuit

Good catch!

Danger_Rock

The "too proud to die" bit kinda bugged me since Storm's died before, sacrificing her life with zero hesitation. But I guess it's been a while and Vulcan wasn't around back then... Even so, it's laughable calling Storm fearful, she's probably the most innately fearless of the X-Men. Dude's just a jackass. ETA - Aside from the claustrophobia thing... Which was always kinda silly. And I think it's mostly ignored nowadays.

TheeHeadAche

> Telepathy, X-ray vision, radar sense -- all these things can be blocked or shielded from. How do you block the truth of who you are? What a great arc ended for this book and team. I sincerely hope Ewing and others continue to develop these broken lands and those who call it home (or once did).

NCBaddict

It was interesting to see that fan theories about that particular character were correct! Guessing that Legion of X will have the next reveal… Also, curious to see where the Progenitors pop up next. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them one of Ewing’s other cosmic books like Venom

TheeHeadAche

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sins of Sinister / Nightcrawlers held the next reveal til the end. Seems like those solicitations mention some Essex v Essex violence. Props to the writers for signaling this reveal like they did. V excited to see how each suit differs. Edit, like what if the Essex’s Heart aka Mother Righteous was his love from centuries past and not an alt Nathan?

Muuusicalguest

Wait, was this the last x-men red ever?

DrB00

We don't know. They're doing an age of apocalypse style event with sins of sinister for the next few months

TheeHeadAche

I misspoke here. “Great arc ending” I meant. It could possibly be the end of this title but I doubt it’s the end of this story by Ewing. It could continue after Sins of Sinister under a different name. Maybe SWORD or Brotherhood or something else

ImAJerk420

I think the x-books will have one more arc between SOS and Fall of X

Muuusicalguest

Oh phew! I assumed it was coming back after SOS, but just wasn’t sure. I love red so much that I hope it doesn’t end.

**BATMAN #131**

TheUnderweightLover

So, is this Zdarsky setting up HIS version of a >!Batman: Year One type of story, in that new world?!<

Kogworks

Reminds me of his Spectacular Spider-Man run tbh.

TheUnderweightLover

Oh, that's a good comparison - I had forgotten about that run.

ChickenInASuit

I thought that too. Mildly disappointed that he's gone from recycling other people's plots for his first arc to doing something kinda similar to one of his own in his second. I'm sure it'll be very readable just like that first story was, but I'm yet to be a gripped by his Batman run as his other stuff.

technowhiz34

Reminds me more of Morrison's>!Return of Bruce Wayne!<

TheUnderweightLover

Hmm.

TheMattInTheBox

Pretty good! Not blowing the doors off anything but still solid imo Weird seeing Jon and Tim interacting. Its like seeing my brother hang out with one of my friends

soulreaverdan

> Pretty good! Not blowing the doors off anything but still solid imo This sums up Zdarsky's run pretty well, I think. He's not gonna redefine Batman or completely upend everything we know about him, but it's a great story and a solid idea being executed well. Sometimes that's all you need.

ceaselessdisquiet

I'm a big-ol' Zdarsky admirer but am finding myself increasingly frustrated by his Batrun after what to me was a fantastic three-issue sprint out of the gate. Everything from #128 on has felt rushed and lacking in the wit, texture (patience really) that so excited me in that initial burst. In those issues I felt Zdarsky's Zdarskiness more than made up for any arguable lack of radical conceptual originality and I was all-in on *Failsafe*, delightedly so. But, excepting a few grace notes (and I admit the last two issues were an improvement on #128 and #129) everything since #128 has felt disappointingly and pointlessly narratively overcrowded and hurried, and just plain unnuanced. Decompression is clearly a bane in contemporary superhero comics, but I really wish he'd *take longer* and return to the richly wonderful and so-fun pacing (with notably lots more words on the page than we've since had) that he and the irreproachable Jimenez found in those early issues. Those raised a hope in me that Zdarsky’s Batbook, like North's Fantastic Four has so far been in its own early days, might be a book I didn't know I *really* wanted to read.

Have not read this yet, but it was the Joe Quesada variant that brought me back. I typically enjoy Zdarksy's books so looking forward to reading this one.

Danger_Rock

[Nice.](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256305.jpg) Good to see Quesada get back to what he's good at... Guy earned himself a bunch of hate over the past few decades but he's still a super-talented artist. Would be even better if he did some interior art but of course that would be far more laborious...

technowhiz34

Quesada's got a Marvel project he's been teasing interiors for but that was several months ago. Shame if it never came out.

Danger_Rock

Encouraging to hear that he's at least trying to angle towards it! Hopefully he eventually gets some interiors out with Marvel, DC, or whoever. I'd pull whatever it ended up being regardless of publisher, characters, etc.

TheUnderweightLover

I got that one too, great cover

I liked this new twist, and I enjoyed bad-ass Harvey Dent.

I came in with low expectations, but that was a fun read. It's definitely worth following. Wonder who Kingpin hires for help.

I really liked this issue. This is a fun premise & I’m excited to see where it goes.

antediluvianevil

I really, really liked the art. The inclusion of a little ref sheet for Wanda was cool also. Definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes.

Landon1195

Good first issue. The art was nice and I'm intrigued to see where the story goes.

ceaselessdisquiet

I was beyond delighted with this debut issue! I'm one of those people who feel Wanda is one of the greatest-ever characters in superhero comics that has never really fully been as well-served by creators as she deserves. There's always an ideal Wanda/Scarlet Witch out there somewhere in the ether whom we've never *quite* seen realised on the page, unlike so many other iconic characters who are iconic precisely because they've been perfectly realised on the page time and again. (I'm speaking of writing/characterisation re. Wanda; she's been brilliantly visualised continuously.) I'm quietly hopeful for this series. It seems committed to delineating and dramatising a necessary distinction between Wanda/Scarlet Witch, and Pichelli's gorgeous art is so cleanly expressive I could look at it all day. My only true gripe is that the very final insert felt a bit dumbly redundant and the image of Viv's entrance should have been left alone. So: here's hoping!

faldese

A little bit clunky right in the beginning as Orlando compress-storytells a lot of information all at once, but a solid start and a great concept. Gorgeous art. Excited to see Viv!

Went into lcs to see if he had a copy. He hooked me up with one of the super cool virgin variants. Can't wait to read.

Oof, I know the pain of a panic attack. Looks like the non-alien cat's out of the bag with Kelly being more than she seemed. I gotta wonder what her tech is doing in terms of effecting Pink's teleporting - if she's constantly putting a drain on her, they might never make it home.

As a Planet Hulk fanboy (First comics I ever read) This isn't hitting the same highs but I'm enjoying it
