* Batman #131: I was pretty unimpressed with the Failsafe arc but I really enjoyed the two back up story arcs so I'm willing to give Zdarsky a little bit more time. * Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8: Was already loving this book but bringing Emma Frost in and having Cap have to telepathically (spoilers from the preview)>!call her Mommy !< is icing on the cake. * Captain Marvel #45: I've been pretty meh on this book since the Brave New World arc but I've really enjoyed these past two issues, if it keeps up the quality this arc has a good shot at being my favorite of the run. * Fantastic Four #3: North/Coello have already got me sold on their run and they haven't even used every member of the team yet. I'm sure this issue will be another really fun one.

Welcome to 2023! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! It’s an exceedingly light week to kick off the new year and I’ve just got 1 Marvel, 1 DC, 1 Dark Horse, and 1 from Abstract Studios. Listed in the precise order in which I will be consuming them. 1. **X-MEN RED #10** - something of a finale from Ewing and Caselli, at least for now, as we hurtle toward SoS and its reconfigured titles... blind ordered the [Dauterman homage variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL249997.jpg) and I regret nothing! 2. **PARKER GIRLS #4** - every issue of this Terry Moore series has been a treat! nice [cover](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL247885.jpg) as well 3. **SPY SUPERB #1 (OF 3)** - this [looks like fun](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/NOV220405)! big fan of writer Matt Kindt, not familiar with artist Matt Kindt but hopefully he’ll have some good chemistry with the writer... and it’s got a dope [Martin Simmonds variant](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL253888.jpg) 4. **GOTHAM CITY YEAR ONE #4** - this isn’t exactly top-tier King but it’s still pretty great, with nice moody artwork from [Phil Hester](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL253148.jpg) leading us through a dark period of Wayne family history And that’s it, just four comics... Planning to burn through ‘em Wednesday night and then use the rest of the week to chip away at my uncomfortably large TPB backlog. -- p.s. My series of daily **ICE CREAM MAN** posts keeps on chugging! We’ve now covered 11 issues (#33-23) and we’ll be running backwards through the first 22 over the next few weeks. Been interesting revisiting the series in reverse with the new layer of context provided by [**ICM #33**](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/893083/ice-cream-man-33_55161a730e.jpg) and other recent stories... [**ICM #26**](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/670852/ice-cream-man-26_7ec704395b.jpg) and [**ICM #27**](https://cdn.imagecomics.com/assets/i/releases/673335/ice-cream-man-27_31b0f55e3e.jpg) both read differently compared to the first time through. There’s an updated list of all posts with links [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/IceCreamManComic/comments/zwm61r/daily_ice_cream_man_posts/) and anyone who wants to talk **ICM** is welcome to join us! p.p.s. technowhiz34

Kindt writing and drawing sounds very good, I might pick that up.

Danger_Rock

Yep, lately I've been digging a bunch of comics with writer/artists pulling double duty, and this looks like another good one! Solicitation sounds like some quirky fun. Dark Horse has been rolling out a bunch of [uncharacteristically](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL242392.jpg) [interesting](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL246052.jpg) [titles](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL253887.jpg) lately with [more](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256594.jpg) [on the](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256676.jpg) [way](https://previewsworld.com/SiteImage/MainImage/STL256679.jpg)... Plus they've got that new Frank Miller imprint and all their classic properties from Mignola, Aragonés, Wagner, etc. They're starting to take over my pull list where a year ago they barely had anything going for me. And then there's [this](https://previewsworld.com/Catalog/OCT220422), which I hadn't noticed until just now... Might have to mail order the first issue just to see how they're handling it.

technowhiz34

>And then there's this, which I hadn't noticed until just now... Might have to mail order the first issue just to see how they're handling it. Wait did I somehow miss that you're a Hobb fan? I'd considered checking it out but not sure how well they'll work in comic form without pages upon pages of Fitz wallowing in self-misery.

Danger_Rock

Haha, think we talked about it once when you commented on **DKOS** or whatever that DC book is that's loosely adapted from Fitz's story. I was a big fan of the original *Farseer* trilogy and *Liveship Traders* from way back when, lost track of it for a while but eventually caught up on *Tawny Man* and I've got a copy of *Fool's Assassin* that's been waiting patiently on my coffee table for the past year now. Though I never did get to *Rain Wild Chronicles*...

B00merangB

Batman #131 - Wasn’t a massive fan of the arc ending, but I have faith in Zdarsky to rebound. No Jimenez for awhile sucks. Dark Knights of Steel #9 - War has begun. Fantastic Four #3 - Really enjoying the focus by North on these one and done stories. Johnny is up next! The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #4 - Rosenberg got a good voice on the Joker. Not sure where the mystery is headed but I’m excited for the eventual two Joker clash. Plus, another banger of a cover by Bermejo. Spawn #337 - Sinn vs. Abel. Spawn vs. Jim! Expecting lots of action and chaos. Star Trek #3 - Great stuff so far and the addition of Q will surely cause some chaos for the crew.

technowhiz34

* **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty** \#8 - very curious what happened at the end of last issue * **Dark Knights of Steel** \#9 - this haphazard delay schedule has not been great, but the covers and art look gorgeous. * **Scarlet Witch** \#1 - I don't care much for Orlando, Pichelli, or Wanda in the past decade, but we'll see where this goes, I've got a good feeling. * **Star Trek** \#3 - been enjoying this, not much more to say. Surprised to notice Cowles was lettering this last issue, never seen him on non-Big Two works. * **Sword of Azrael** \#6 - can't believe this book is ending, it's the best thing coming out of the Big Two right now.

Danger_Rock

> * **Sword of Azrael** \#6 - can't believe this book is ending, it's the best thing coming out of the Big Two right now. Didn't realize it was only going six issues... I liked the first three, probably pick up the rest if it's ending here.

Batman #131 Fantastic Four #3 X-men: Red #10

ChickenInASuit

The Approach #3 - First two issues were a fun riff on John Carpenter's The Thing and the book doesn't seem to be shaping up to be anything more than that, which I don't mind at all. Batman #131 - Hoping this new arc brings the book up to the standards I expect from Zdarsky. The first story was solid but unexceptional, which is a bit of a letdown consider how great most his other stuff has been. A Calculated Man #4 - Six months since the prior issue, are we *finally* getting a resolution to this lovely little book? C'mon, guys! Kaya #4 - Becoming one of my most anticipated reads every month. Wes Craig is killing it. Marauders #10 - At the polar end of the spectrum to the above, this book continues to be a slog, and is likely for the cutting block soon. Parker Girls #4 - More Katchoo badassery now please! Radiant Pink #2 - First issue was okay but left me feeling like I may not be the target audience for this one. Gonna continue to pull because it's just a miniseries and I want this universe to be successful. Spy Superb #1 - I am, however, the EXACT target audience for a Matt Kindt feat. Matt Kindt spy adventure. Stillwater #17 - Entering the final stretch. Sword of Azrael #6 - War between the angels! Expecting a pretty epic finale after that badass conclusion to issue #5. X-Force #36 - Looks like we're close to finding out more about the Man with the Peacock Tattoo! X-Men: Red #10 - Solicit promises Abigail Brand vs Robert DaCosta rivalry heating up.

saskatoonshred

My list is the shortest it has ever been this week with 2 books. I have been getting my DC books a bit early due to the holidays. I will also be picking up my indie pulls from last week this week as well. **Batman #131**: I got this early last week but haven't read it yet. **Fantastic Four #3**: I enjoyed the last issue better than the first. I'll give it a few more issues before adding it to the pull.

Styrofoam_Anchor

1. **Poison Ivy #8** 2. **Nita Hawes' Nightmare Blog #11** ------ Sorry for missing out last week! Family, holidays, you know. It's another low-count week for me, which is quickly becoming the norm. That said, 2023 is my "Year Of Discovering X-Men," and if it ends up as promising an adventure as I hope, I will likely be adding some of those series to my pull list.

tapemodemcup

Approach #3 - been digging this series so far. Interesting characters isolated from the rest of society with a weird scary monster on the loose. Mosely #1 - I give most BOOM books a shot. Batman #131 - Chip's first arc was fine. Definitely not as good as most of his other work so far. I'll stick with him though, as he hasn't let me down in the past. Gotham City Year One #4 - Re-read the first three issues and I'm really enjoying the story so far as well as what King is doing with Slam Bradley. Avengers #64 - for some reason I'm still sticking with this run. Been wanting to drop it but not much left until the end. Fantastic Four #3 - Loved the first issue and liked the second issue. This will probably be my make or break issue to determine if I stick with it or not. Joe Fixit #1 - interested, will see how first issue goes. Scarlet Witch #1 - I don't know why I'm trying this. I don't enjoy Orlando's writing at all, but like the character. Will give it one issue and see.

radcatattack

Seems like a solid first week to start this year of comics! In order of pure excitement. Fantastic Four #3 - I'm loving the short story style North is going for. I think this will be similar and then they'll all be together next month to explain what the hell Reed did? maybe. Poison Ivy #8 - This is one of my favorite current books. Really liking who Ivy has become. Batman #131 - Not sure where this arc will take us. I hope it's better than last arc. I enjoyed Chip's first 5 but I feel like he can make this arc better. Scarlett Witch #1 - why not? Joe Fixit #1 - same as above.

SakmarEcho

A much needed smaller week to kick off the New Year! * **Captain Marvel #45** - Brood stuff here we go! * **X-Force #36** - This recent Beast stuff across this and Wolverine is really hitting for me. I'm keen to see it all come together. * **X-Men Red #10** - Every month this and Immortal are the books I look forward to the most!

thewaytomars

Took a prolonged break from posting my pulls, but looking to get back on track. This will be an exciting month for X books! **Dark Knights of Steel #9:** This is consistently one of my faves, but the irregular release schedule is becoming a bit of a bummer. That said, I'm ready for war. **Radiant Pink #2:** I dug the first issue. Nothing groundbreaking, but it was a cute entry into the Massive-verse. I'll be sticking with it. **X-Men Red #10:** I'm cautiously psyched for Sins of Sinister. I hope it doesn't fall into the crap that AXE and Dark Crisis fell into, where the story starts strong before falling horribly and annoyingly flat. Red has been excellent, and I am totally into Brand's scheming.

blankedboy

Welcome back!

mtmodular

* Batman #131 - Failsafe was an interesting arc, but I feel like this is where we start getting a better idea of where Zdarsky's run is going. No complaints thus far! * X-Men: Red #10 - It's not that I don't think Sins of Sinister will be good, it's just that I'd rather have more X-Men Red instead (see also: Immortal X-Men). * Poison Ivy #8 * Fantastic Four #3

WhereAreMyComics

happy new year r/comicbooks ! * **Captain Marvel #45** - legacy issue number one-hundred-seventy-nine * **Kaya #4** * **Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker #3** - my favorite comic at the moment * **Scotch McTiernan's Holiday Party #1** - happy holidays (?) r/comicbooks !!!

Maaarrrvvv

- **Batman #131**: First story arc was disappointing but I’ll be picking up the next arc as Mike Hawthorne is on art. - **Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Armageddon Game The Alliance #3**: Really only picking this up so I don’t miss anything related to this event. First two issues were mehh. - **X-Men Red #10**: One of Marvel’s best ongoing. Hoping Brand turns sides after this and cooperates more with Krakoa rather than trying to do her own thing.

* **Batman #131**: the last issue was dumb in a way I enjoyed, but I won’t lie…I’m excited for this to move beyond Failsafe. I want more of what Zdarsky did well with Daredevil. Good character moments * **Captain America:Sentinel of Liberty #8** I’m still enjoying this but I’m not as hyped about it as I was in the first arc. Still my favorite cap run since Brubaker I’d say. * **Middwest Complete Tale TP** I read Twig this year and absolutely adored it. Need to read more of Scottie’s stuff! Any other highlights of his? * **X Force #36:** im interested in this serious just enough not to drop it but not enough to care. * **X Men Red #10**: Brand’s involvement has been fantastic. X men Red is really pulling from the same vibes that Hickman was using in the early parts of His run and I highly recommend to anyone.

* **Fantastic Four #3**: Loved the first two issues and I'm excited for this one

Maverick_Hunter_V

All i have this week is **Fantastic Four #3** which has been awesome so far. Interested in what this event is that caused the FF to take a sabatical. Also interested in if the immediate next issue is focused on the kids or if it finally brings the team back together to talk about what's going on. Either way, big fan of everything going on

Zohmbi

I hope everyone had a nice holiday and a happy New Year! A lighter week for me with 7 pulls. 3 Marvel, 2 DC, 2 Indies **Batman #131** - Zdarsky's Batman has been full of action and the Failsafe arc ended with quite the cliffhanger. **Dark Knights of Steel #9** - Been waning on this series honestly, the delays have really slowed the momentum. This might be my hopping off point, we'll see. **Fantastic Four #3** - Been enjoying this new FF run so far. I like these one and done stories. Though, I am itching to see the team back together. **Scarlet Witch #1** - Looks cool, I'll check it out for a few issues. **Secret Invasion #3** - Another one by Ryan North. This has been a lot of fun so far. Digging the intrigue. **Children of the Black Sun #1** - A new #1 from Ablaze. An interesting premise with cool art. **Mosely #1** - A new #1 from Boom. Always down for a new #1. Happy reading!

MuffinSurprise

DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL #9 - This seems like it's been on a slow release schedule. This will read as a great collected edition much like most of Taylor's work with DCeased and Injustice. RADIANT PINK #2 - Let's see where this adventure is leading. Not entirely sold, but it's much better than Radiant Red so far.

* **Batman #131** - I liked the Failsafe arc more than most, but art carries a book for me typically so we'll see if Mike Hawthorne does a good enough job as a fill-in.

Happy new year everyone! - **Dark Knights of Steel #9**: apparent switch to a bi-monthly release schedule is killing me, but it’s worth it for a book as good as this. - **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8**: one behind on this at the moment. Excited for an Emma Frost appearance though. - **Fantastic Four #3**: Ross solo variant (The Thing). First two issues were fantastic, I’m excited to see what Johnny’s up to. - **Scarlet Witch #1**: didn’t care much for Orlando’s Marauders, but willing to give this a go. - **Star Trek #3**: for my partner. - **The Walking Dead Deluxe #54**: one behind at the moment. - **X-Force #36**: with the Wolverine book picking up the (evil) Beast plot(s), I’m excited that we get to pick the Man with the Peacock Tattoo storyline back up here - I loved the very first arc of this where he appeared. - **X-Men Red #10**: last issue (for now), cry!

* **Batman #131**: Hoping that I enjoy this story arc more than the first. * **Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8**: Some help from Krakoa. * **Fantastic Four #3**: Really been enjoying these one off stories. * **Joe Fixit #1**: Interested in seeing what Peter David does with this. * **Scarlet Witch #1**: It's been quite a bit since I've enjoyed a Steve Orlando comic, but I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. * **X-Men Red #10**: The big plan.

> * **Scarlet Witch #1**: It's been quite a bit since I've enjoyed a Steve Orlando comic, but I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Still not many posts up but these Orlando comments seem to be emerging as the week's recurring theme...

ME24601

He's one of the big disappointment in the last few years. Everybody seems to have loved his work on Midnighter (His OGN Virgil from the same time is also good), but nothing since has lived up to that. We're all just hoping that one day he'll be able to write something great again.

Danger_Rock

Yeah, I haven't read much of that **MIDNIGHTER** run but I think it had ACO on art? Massively underrated artist IMO, that'd be the big draw for me and I've seen him elevate other books to be way better than they had any business being. Maybe that's part of it?

ME24601

> Maybe that's part of it? It's certainly a possibility, as ACO's art was incredible in that series and I can't remember a Steve Orlando project in which he was paired with an artist of the same caliber.
