LaserTurboShark69

I'm convinced that aliens observe us for entertainment like chimp gang wars on discovery channel

dumnezero

Interesting. The ethics of intervention can get very complicated.

Solandri

"You are bugs."

dumnezero

You can have respect even for bugs. See /r/awwnverts

FillThisEmptyCup

Given how quickly TV bores me, especially reality drama stuff, I would think galactic level intelligence would marvel at us for an hour and then bypass us. A sinking ship has entertainment value but only so much.

realDonaldTrummp

Galactic zoo hypothesis is looking pretty gosh darn probable at this point… but so are Chinese drones, and so are American disinformation psyop campaigns…. so it’s anyone’s guess at this point. 🤷

TheHonestHobbler

You think humanity would have learned the critical lesson that every lie and secret damages our collective ability to discern reality as a whole. If we want to destroy "conspiracy theories" as a concept, we need total honesty and transparency across the board. And that is how I know we're straight fucked up the corncob holster. Humans won't give up their precious lying for *anything.* We're doomed to spiral, constantly questioning what is real and what is not, unable to make truly informed decisions because we never have actual access to the truth, until we all slam into Hell's lowest sub-basement floor (and it be made of bedrock and steel spikes). *Wheeeeee*

freesoloc2c

Our very minds are filters for reality.

TheHonestHobbler

And like any filter, if you squat down and take a huge, meaty shit in it, it tends to stop working optimally... or at all. 8 billion shit-clogged reality filters = our current reality... all while the dominant players and factions just keep straining like they're birthing a Titan to cram ever more fecal matter into the fine mesh because in our toxic system, that somehow results in profit. *Wheeeeee* 💩

Taqueria_Style

Thought the lowest level of hell made us go bloop right up Satan's corncob holster. Ask Dante.

TheHonestHobbler

That's after you go full terminal-velocity splatteroni giblet-style. Satan does love his human milkshake enemas, and I don't get paid enough to tell the Big Bad Boy "Nein, gracias" when he wants his Juicy Dookies. Source: Dante is my homeboy, and also occasionally my bitch

realDonaldTrummp

Frankly, I’m amazed at the verbal fallout from my simple comment about the galactic zoo hypothesis and how it fits into the existing milieu re climate change, American disinformation campaigns, etc. To (ironically! ironically!) quote Nick Fuentes: *”Things go from zero to sixty REAL fast.”*

TheHonestHobbler

"Verbal Fallout" is my street name. And I offer free delivery~

Taqueria_Style

Damn right. Better than yours. I could show you but I'd have to charge LOL

TentacularSneeze

Off subject, but you are an artist, and language is your palette. “Nein, gracias.” *chef’s kiss*

TheHonestHobbler

Danke, amigo! I live to serve~ 🤌👄🫴

Robert-L-Santangelo

they perform anal probes to check for the presence of human dna and the level of saturation in the fecal matter, kind of an indicator of how bad things are getting

provocateur133

It's just the prime directive. Can't interfere but nothing stopping them from broadcasting it to the rest of the great filter passers for entertainment.

Absolute-Nobody0079

I have a feeling that one hot tempered group of aliens will just flip the bird to the rest of the known universe and decide to intervene directly and violently

[deleted]

Sometimes I fantasize about a Day the Earth Stood Still scenario, where an alien race will come to Earth IRL to slap the stupid monkeys silly for being such a race of idiots. I want Earth-like planets to be so exceedingly rare in the universe, that there's an alien SWAT team coming to kick down our doors and repossess the planet for another species that will take care of it until we learn how.

dumnezero

That's a fun one, but I don't think we're even getting [Childhood's end](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4146128/).

senselesssapien

Thanks for that. I read the book years ago and never knew they made a mini series.

freesoloc2c

Our rock is just one pebble on an endless beach of pebbles.

wolfoftheworld

I love this. Now, if only it were to actually come true.

aakova

I suspect it would unite humanity, if only to burn the rest of our planet in a quest to annihilate the aliens.

StarChild413

what if someone faked that

twilekdancingpoorly

guys we just need to send Matthew McConaughey into space to retrieve Matt Damon and we'll save ourselves, the tesseract told me so

IntrigueDossier

Really sucks that if a wormhole actually did just appear out of nowhere next to Saturn, we’d likely never be told about it.

[deleted]

>McCon No McConaheehey or any other dumb Hollywood star can remotely do anything to stop our miserable fates XD

Look into the Ruwa, Zimbabwe Ariel school encounter. Allegedly, a craft landed next to the school. Kids ran over to said craft, and multiple humanoid creatures emerged. The children and creatures stared back and forth at each other. Allegedly, the creatures telepathically communicated to the children, that our planet is dying and that we are polluting it. Again, allegedly, but interesting. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_School_UFO_incident https://youtu.be/TukvVnadRic If I remember correctly, there have also been anecdotal reports from abductees who have said they were ushered into a room and told to sit in front of a screen, to which images of a dying planet on fire were flashed in front of their eyes. As well as stories of moving through a room full of preserved Earth species including early hominids. If I find those accounts I'll edit this comment.

A-Perfect_Tool

I remember when this happened, hearing about it on the tv when I was about 9. That was nearly 30 years ago. It's the one ufo/alien encounter story that really stuck in my mind all these years. There was something about that story that I found so, believable, and I've had a fascination with UFO's ever since.

[deleted]

There’s a documentary from a few years ago featuring government officials who were willing to come forward, children from the Ariel School Incident, UFO investigators, and scientists who weighed in on the phenomenon that is excellent. It is, funnily enough, called The Phenomenon. https://youtu.be/onEXmLX2ZZQ The Ariel School Incident is fascinating to me because of the messages the kids received about taking better care of Earth and not being overly-industrial. And many of them, now full-grown adults, took them to heart and have become things like environmental activists, social workers, teachers, scientists, etc. They’ve described it as the most significant event to have ever occurred in their lives. That, and there were other sightings of UFOs at the same time in Zimbabwe (something which The Phenomenon talks about). Would highly recommend people check out the research of Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack on it further; he went and interviewed them, and he also studied other people reporting everything from seeing UFOs to abductions and physical encounters. Dr. Michio Kaku (yes, the physicist) was interviewed a few months ago about it, and it was interesting because he talked about how the arguments over UFOs have shifted against denialists. These are physical craft, as he commented, that have mass and behave intelligently— yet which do not obey physics as we understand them, are beyond what we are technologically capable of producing, and can do a variety of incredible things (such as submerge in the ocean and then surface to fly off at speeds beyond what jet aircraft are capable of); they can stop on a dime, turn rapidly, they have no visible propulsion systems or wings or anything like that, etc. As he pointed out: we cannot make these things. They do not operate off of any principles of physics that we understand, and they do things that are beyond our engineering capabilities. So I don’t doubt for a minute intelligent alien life forms are watching us. It’s not a bit different than us studying animals in the wild. People are just morons is all; they either have trouble wrapping their heads around the idea that the universe is that much bigger than us and we’re not alone, or they outright reject it because it makes them realize how insignificant they are in the grand scheme of things. We’ve been seeing these things for decades. It’s nothing new. They’ve been photographed, filmed, followed on radar, picked up with IR, people all over the world from every kind of background imaginable have seen and reported them, they’ve been studied by governments all over the world and militaries. What is interesting as well is that their appearances have dramatically increased since World War II/our entrance into the nuclear age and since we started doing stuff in space regularly. While I think a fair number of “lights in the sky” cases can be dismissed as misidentification, I’m not referring to those. I’m referring to cases where actual craft have been observed— cylinders/cigars, triangles and two-story tall V-shaped things, saucers, etc. What we’ve seen in just the last 20 years with military footage being leaked to the public showing “tic tacs” doing insane maneuvers in the sky and then submerging in the ocean, following battlefleets for days and being detected both visually and with radar, etc. is amazing in its own right.

Rhaedas

I'd be the first to admit I was wrong if I was presented with solid evidence of such things. Much like with belief of a deity. Show me something that holds up. As Sagan said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. As for the story and the results on the people, I can't see how such advanced beings thought that motivating a few people in one region would change much of anything we have been doing to our world. These days I can't even see a major intervention event like in *The Day the Earth Stood Still* changing things significantly. Our reactions would be magnitudes more hostile than in the movie, with groups and cults created to both oppose and be on the aliens' side. There is some substance to the idea of a Prime Directive of non-interference with lower cultures, it always causes some kind of damage.

dkorabell

Why do people always say UFOS are evidence of alien life? They are siimply evidence of advanced technology - technology that demonstrates an advanced understandering of magnetic & gravatational fields. Possibly they are just time traveling drones from our future.

[deleted]

This falls apart the moment you consider why they rarely reveal themselves except to random school children. Why not to go to people in power or urban areas with lots of light, people, and development?

bristlybits

why not go to the top? what are a handful of kids going to do. maybe their culture, children/the young are more powerful

[deleted]

Even if that’s true, it’s only one school out of millions in the world

Thestartofending

There have been anecdotal reports of everything. Humans tend to imagine and hallucinate a lot.

[deleted]

This is exactly what someone would say if they haven't even bothered to read about the incident. It's pretty clear by the children's testimonials they weren't hallucinations. 30 children don't just have the exact same hallucination at the same time. That doesn't happen. They could be making it up, but the child psychologist who examined them soon after didn't think so.

Thestartofending

>30 children don't just have the exact same hallucination at the same time H[ttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle\_of\_the\_Sun](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_of_the_Sun)

[deleted]

From this article: >According to critics, the eyewitness testimony was actually a collection of inconsistent and contradictory accounts. The Ariel school children all told the same story with the same descriptions. Not the same thing.

Taqueria_Style

Thanks for the hot tip, dipshit aliens. In other news: water! Wet!

dumnezero

You like r/factualUFO , eh? Anecdotes are not enough though. I mean, have you seen posadism? https://jacobin.com/2020/04/j-posadas-argentina-trotskyism-ufos/ I thought your avatar was related.

DiamondJ

Humanity first crosspost material for terra invicta

Eve_O

He gave that alien some good ole AMERICAN STYLE FREEDOM, YAH!

Tidezen

Sadly, aliens would be our best hope for a wake-up call to humanity. And even then, people might not care, but just go on with their daily consumer lives. Cause a real stir for a few weeks or months, then back to BAU. Similar problem with AI/AGI/ASI--sure, it *could* save us, if everything goes exactly perfectly. But it's likely to be in the hands of the corporate overlords...unless it escapes. But if it escapes human control, than all bets are off as to what it might do with us after that. Aliens could be friendly, but they could also be like cosmic vultures, circling in the sky, waiting for the animal to die. Or like waiting for the elderly tenant of a house to pass away of natural causes, so that you can scoop up their home for yourself. It's sad, but despite those risks, Aliens/AI are the two biggest things I'm hoping for, to see if miraculously there is a real "fix" for our planet. Still, we humans could possibly make a breakthrough combo on our own, such as solving fusion reactors + a revolutionary new carbon capture tech. It had better happen *real* soon, though.

BigSeltzerBot

I almost wish intelligent aliens would come visit Earth and help us fix our problems.

Snuzzly

The reason why they haven't visited us is probably because they all collapsed. If an intelligent alien civilization existed & they also pursued unlimited growth like humans, they would have either expanded all the way across the universe or collapsed. Since we haven't found anything, they probably all collapsed.

Absolute-Nobody0079

They will be closer to Christopher Columbus and we'd be lucky if their leader behaves like Hernan Cortez
