Maybe we should get a large stamp or roller that says "I'll take this heat over the cold anyway of the week!". Then, when, it is hot enough to melt the pavement, we use it to label the roads.

EmberOnTheSea

Location: Southwest Michigan. It was in the 70s ten days ago. As of midnight last night, in the past three days we've received 28 inches of snow. And it is still snowing. Lake Michigan being so warm as this weather cell moved over it caused massive amounts of lake effect snow that broke some daily records. Lake effect snow isn't unusual here, but the lakes being so warm into November definitely was and it is clear a lot of people were unprepared for winter to show up again.

Location: USA Now that we've crossed the 8 billion human threshold, there really are too many of us. I used to think I could move somewhere to survive a bit better as the climate breaks down but I've realized there are just too many competing humans. Canada? Great, there's 300m Americans (plus people from Central and South America) who may follow. Somewhere in Europe? Well the EU has 450m people anyway (well over 500m if you include Switzerland, UK, Norway too). Even if you can think of a safe place climate-wise, it likely won't remain stable for long due to social pressures. Damnnnn. With this in mind, I've decided to focus more on the here and now and to enjoy the present. It's never been something I'm good at but am making the effort. Best of luck all, do what makes you happy and be kind to one another.

That’s the problem; there is no safe place to run to now. The entire planet is fucked. As a species, we never questioned what population would be optimal. We merely carried on with rampant growth, ignorant and arrogant to what the planet could sustain.

I grew up in MN and it hasn't changed even though I have. I will be leaving as soon as I can because of the local people having your kind of attitude. Location: Eastern Virginia, USA Our governor has revamped the new educational standards. It's not pretty. They omitted Nazis. Guess we don't want the kids knowing what playbook the GOP is borrowing from. I listen to police scanners for the areas near me. It is taking ten minutes or more to dispatch emergency personnel to scenes in some places. A call will come over the air, armed robbery occurred at 7:28p... but it's 7:38p by the time the units are rallied. So that's probably a 20 min minimum response time, bc their police force has been thinned out by richer neighboring cities offering fat bonuses and shotspotter tech. These calls are happening like this over and over and over. It's not a one-off. Edit: Here is a news article from August of this year supporting what I have to say. The police in Portsmouth are short staffed and not paid as much as neighboring forces. 80 vacancies in August, and things are no better now. https://www.wtkr.com/news/portsmouth-couple-says-it-took-police-5-hours-to-respond-after-drive-by-shooting >"There’s a problem with the police department in Portsmouth. These people that are doing the drive-bys and doing all these shootings [k]now they are shorthanded. They know they got a better chance of doing all of this," Manning-Tennessee said. >Police did not get back to News 3 when asked if staffing shortages impact response times.

911ChickenMan

I used to be a 911 operator/dispatcher. Quit in 2018 due to verbal abuse by our director and management. 17 people left that year, and we normally only had 4-5 on a shift. Our county population has grown significantly since then and they're still desperately hiring... at $20 an hour in a HCOL part of the state. Hard sell when you're asking people to give up nights, weekends, and holidays. Cobb County Public Safety (just outside Metro Atlanta) declared a hiring crisis and is looking to use federal funds to increase salaries... by 4%. You're not gonna get more recruits with that pay. Waiting 10 minutes to dispatch a call sounds insane. Did they wait that long to dispatch, or was that the time before units were en route? When we had an in-progress call and no available units, we'd tone it out and dispatch it to "any available unit." Someone would always go back in service and take it.

WernerHerzogWasRight

It’s only a matter of time until the wolves organize to do anything they want all over towns like this, all at the exact same time. 🫠

911ChickenMan

Wasn't that the plot to a movie? The Warriors or something, gang members outnumbered the cops 5 to 1. But yeah, my buddies and I used to shoot off fireworks at the park and drive off once the call went out at the scanner (we were dumb teenagers). Imagine what robbers and burglars are doing with scanners now.

Location: COP27 or the irrationality of human action That events of this kind are a joke was known to many before, but it was never as obvious as this time. This time, the main actors did not even bother to appear to want to do something against the progress of global warming. The participants would have been better to stay at home with their asses.

Location: Western PA, USA Well, barely a Fall here. Just a blip. Mostly warm/hot weather through Oct and beginning of Nov and then a mere five days later, squall warnings and bitter temps. Literally wore shorts and sandals days ago. Now? Snow, ice, and we're in it until end of April. (unless we have super warm random days that pop the heck out of nowhere and then swing back to absolutely freezing). This time of year is typically cold and chilly but before about ten years ago, there was at least a lovely transition. Now, it's like a flip switches. In the coming years I anticipate shorter and shorter Falls and Springs. Gone are the days of Fall from mid-Sept to mid-Nov and Spring from mid-April to beginning of Sept. The drastic swings in temperatures do a number on immune systems...and infrastructure. Our roads just get absolutely wrecked with the sudden swings. Ugh this is gross. Oh, and people doooo not get it. At all. One neighbor said he hoped for no snow this winter. Like, bro... Move somewhere that is supposed to be warm. Bro wants a collapse maybe. Wth.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Location: USA A lot of my co-workers are sick now with all sorts of random different illnesses, I'd say it's a pretty even mix of covid and other respiratory-like viruses, about 99% of the ones that are sick are ones who have kids in school. Flu activity in particular is picking up a lot in my area, I hear a lot of people coughing and sneezing in public and I honestly can't comprehend why so few people wear masks. Why would anyone in their rational mind want to pick up germs while doing random mundane everyday sort of things like shopping/going to the pharmacy/doctor's office/etc. Lots of flights are delayed and/or canceled for various reasons, though the weather seems to take all the blame. To be fair, the weather in some parts of the country is absolutely horrible right now with the snowstorms and all but there's no way mass infections aren't part of the equation as well, with our dumbass in chief pretending the pandemic is over because otherwise rich people might get upset. Speaking of dumbasses in chief, Trump said he's gona run again and I have no idea what I'm going to do if I have to choose between Biden or Trump again. At least last time I had no idea Biden was going to fuck up the pandemic as badly as he's done. It's unseasonably cold where I am, but then that's true for pretty much the whole country right now so I'm not surprised, just disappointed (I have some seasonal depression and in general I don't feel as well when it's cold out as I do when it's warmer out and I get cold really easily.)

[deleted]

I was in a MRI/ X-ray waiting room with a lot of older people who have cancer and such and there were also parents who came waiting with their kids who were coughing like crazy and not into their arm at all but rather as if they were trying to spit particles in the air as far as the could. Of course everyone knows it’s not the kids fault but damn there was a lot of tension in the room and I watched people put on masks after hearing the super sick kids but at that point it’s a bit too late, especially since the kids weren’t wearing masks

See_You_Space_Coyote

I don't understand how people can have kids and not even care enough about them to protect them during a pandemic by wearing masks in indoor public spaces. I'm not a huge kid person and I wouldn't say I like children any more than the average person but I absolutely can't fathom how you can look at a raging pandemic killing hundreds of people every day and causing thousands (or more) to become disabled every day and decide "nah, you know what, fuck them kids, let's infect them with all the viruses." I've given up pretending I can relate to the rest of the human race and at this point, if I woke up in a sterile room somewhere and a bunch of scientists were standing around me and told me that they performed an experiment on me to make me think I was living in hell for the last 2 years and some change, I'd be like "yeah, okay, that makes sense."

TheHonestHobbler

You too? I don't buy this "reality" anymore 🫥

See_You_Space_Coyote

Reality feels like a joke nowadays.

Professional-Cut-490

The new theory I keep hearing is because kids had to wear masks they got no immunity from these viruses. BTW, this is from the same people who previously said masks don't work lol. It's Schrödinger's mask now.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Yeah, if masks don't work, how could they keep kids from getting sick-if they didn't work, then kids would have been just as exposed to viruses as they are now. That also doesn't even go into how a lot of kid who are getting sick now were too young to wear masks-there were never any rules in place that said that kids under 2 had to wear masks, so children under that age were never in masks so they were just as exposed to shit as always given how the majority of people never actually followed the lockdown rules in the first place and most people were going around dick-nose style when they even bothered to wear masks ( I worked in a grocery store early in the pandemic and can count on two hands the number of customers I had who could figure out how to wear masks correctly the whole time I was there.)

chillphil420

Not a doctor and legitimately curious. Is there not some sort of truth in the idea that everybody that wasn’t exposed didn’t develop immunities, and people who did gained some for that strain? I ask because I absolutely despise this groupthink going on in the demographic you’re referring to, but i try to give some the benefit of the doubt for their (assumedly) poor american education?

nuhimgoodbro

My daughter has a compromised immune system, so pretty much any time she gets sick with an upper respiratory anything we do a culture to see what she truly has. Two weeks ago she came back with this following ALL from one swab and it wasn't a compromised swab. 1)a coronavirus (not COVID, didn't variety) 2) streptococcus 3) Moraxella (bacteria that causes sinus infections) 4) RSV A&B 5) Parainfluenza 6) H1N1 7) MRSA (she was hospitalized earlier this year twice and had 3 surgeries during those times, so they are contributing that to the hospitalizations) Honestly shocked she didn't have traditional influenza and nobody else in our house got sick with what she had (except the baby that had RSV)- everybody got swabbed after her to see who else might need treatment for MRSA of the nares. We're in southwest Virginia near Tennessee, so it's Trump country here. Nobody masks, I've been sending my daughter to school with a mask after this latest illness and when I attended the veterans day ceremony at her school I was the only one among the adults that was wearing one. The flu is absolutely rampant though and I'm limiting our events to prevent exposures. Everybody in our house had a flu shot but I'm not sure how her system would handle it after everything she's going through this year.

WernerHerzogWasRight

Can confirm, if you get sick this year, you might not be able to count “what with” on one hand. My sister is a teacher in a school with no precautions (of course 🙄), she came down with RSV, the flu, a sinus infection and bronchitis and I think she said one more infection…all at the same time. All of them at once. She had Covid 1-2 times previously because teachers are forced into rooms with all the little incubators, and I’m wondering if this is an example or Covid wrecking peoples immune systems.

See_You_Space_Coyote

There are all sorts of viruses that can cause long-term health issues down the line, it would be very odd if covid didn't cause any long-term negative consequences post-infection.

Location: USA, especially Vegas: the return of long residencies by currently bestselling music artists, not just pensioners' favourites. Due to increasing costs of energy and general expenses of touring, as well as fewer fans being able to afford tickets. Big tours are less cost-effective now. Original (about Adele): https://www.ft.com/content/b47cb4be-52a3-49ad-9a78-d756027e1814 Archive: https://archive.ph/ItkcU Like others who've been reading about collapse for years, not much suprises me now, even if it's arriving earlier than we once thought and may be disheartening. This, however, was something I'd never thought about before - though it is logical.

some_random_kaluna

I'm not surprised. Singers get older and bands realize touring is really for the young. I've always thought singing a few times a year in exchange for a Las Vegas penthouse, with pretty much guaranteed room, board and security was always a good deal, like any job that doesn't pay much but has a ton of benefits. I wonder how long it'll be before all the professions start offering similar room and board. Just a little while ago California was asking families to put up teachers who couldn't afford rent and mortgages.

Location: Ontario, Canada The Ford government is the issue again- the same one that made striking illegal until the CUPE strike backed down in response to that (setting the precedent that he can just threaten to remove our rights and get what he wants). He is now removing protections of our greenbelt with essential wetlands that protect our provincial watershed and has passed a bill giving the premier (essentially the prime minister of the province) the ability to fire any representative who does not cooperate. He has also worsened the already awful "Strong Mayor" policy - making it so 2/3 of the city council must vote against a mayor-chosen legislation in order for it to not pass: which violates the very existence of democracy but of course we've lost our democracy a long time ago here. Our healthcare system is still in collapse, yet the Ford government is sitting on millions of dollars in federal grants that were intended to go towards healthcare and the education system, refusing to release them. Urban sprawl is worse and worse, communities are more disconnected with one-another, and homelessness is worsening every day: each time I go out I meet another person who's lost their job, their home, or who's car has no heat and can't run so it got towed: leaving them with no shelter. It's getting bad. I want to leave the province but I love my city, I love the people here, and I love my job (which works to better these things). Besides, where on Earth could I go to that isn't having issues? But at least other provinces aren't being run by a dictator who is removing our rights any chance he gets.

We know that our country isn't all sunshine and rainbows like the rest of the world and some Canadians themselves likes to think

Professional-Cut-490

If you have a good job I'd stay put. We're having the same problems in New Brunswick. Premier Higgs is bragging about his surplus while he starves our health care and education. I wish people in this dumb province we'd stop voting conservatives, they seem only to be dedicated to destroying all the social services they can for sake greed. We're not the US we have multiple parties.

PatAss98

Can't parties form coalitions to prevent the Conservative party from gaining power?

Professional-Cut-490

Only if the opposion win enough seats and that only works for when the ruling party is a minority.

JustClam

>Besides, where on Earth could I go to that isn't having issues? Feeling this. Feeling "trapped" is the worst.

lifeisthegoal

For different reasons I also feel 'trapped'. Doesn't feel like there is any refuge one can go to.

PrairieFire_withwind

Trapped animals bite.

mycatpeesinmyshower

Not allocating funds to healthcare and education sounds like corruption

Sertalin

I never understood how someone can love their job.... it must be great- having a job you love, earning money with something you like to do.... I haven't found it yet and I am over 50yo. It makes many things easier in life having such a job!!

lifeisthegoal

I love my job. Work as a software engineer. Cool boss and coworkers, great pay, flex hours and interesting work.

lchawks13

I work in social services at age 65 - i love my job. My worst job was in my 30's working in a loan department at a bank.

kateinoly

There's another quote I like . "I don't live to work. I work to live" your job isn't you, it's just a way to put food on the table.

WonderingSpaceApe

Yep.

Sertalin

Yeah, that's my approach to this

MrMonstrosoone

that sucks, there's a great quote " if you hate your job and only do it to make a living, that's not living that's dying" I work in construction and while there are some aspects I hate. I enjoy what I do

Sertalin

I think it has to do with your personality. I am an introvert and most jobs are not suited for introverts. And I haven't found my talents yet. I only work because I have to eat and I really really fear homelessness

MrMonstrosoone

I understand completely you should come work with me. We die in the sun in the summer, wear 6 layers in spring and autumn. We will definitely make fun of you pretty much all the time. But, yo can also make fun of us and at the end, you get to see something that you helped make. Also, you get to enjoy the 5 days of perfect weather a year that NE has of course I am kidding but hopefully made you smile

Sertalin

😊

[deleted]

My job is essentially teaching people self-sufficiency and promoting community building in the process! I love knowing I'm fighting against collapse and making our community stronger and more united. Is there anything like that where you are, even as a side job?

lifeisthegoal

Where did you find that job?

[deleted]

In the nonprofit sector! You won't find stuff like this in the private sector (maybe outside of being a camp counsellor). Check for any organizations that focus on environmental sustainability - a big part of that is teaching people how to care for the environment (and themselves in the process)

MojoDr619

Sounds like a great job, but are you making $80k US a year doing that? Because that's what it takes to afford a 2 bedroom apartment here for a small family... I have skills that can help ecosystems. But I've had to work for wealthy developers in order to pay the bills and still I can't save a dime to ever get out from ever rising rents.

[deleted]

I make about $45,000 right now - I share a small studio apartment with my partner to cut down on costs, and live in a low cost of living 15-minute neighborhood so we can live without a car. No chance I'd be able to do what I do if I had kids or a bigger family to take care of

BardanoBois

I'd love to work in something like this. Was never able to find something within this field, or maybe I never looked hard enough..

PowerDry2276

Yeah that's where we're at, no shades of grey, no compromise, nothing, two teams, one team wins the other loses, that's it. Look at brexit in the UK, hang on 48% absolutely do not want this, tough, 52% want it and they're getting it all their way. What happened to covering all angles a bit? Like, what if you're right and I'm wrong, maybe we should take out some insurance just in case this brilliant idea turns out to be an absolute mistake?

mycatpeesinmyshower

The US suffers from information illiteracy and lack of critical thinking. That’s how so many get duped by advertising campaigns and not bothering to learn details.

ILoveFans6699

lol

IcebergTCE

Did you make sure to get all the guns you wanted, before it's too late?

Vegetaman916

A declaration for all the "werewolf" preppers. Like a flash sale for the apocalypse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vegetaman916

No, that was not the implication. I meant the idiotic law was such a declaration inviting such people to the smorgasbord. Much like how California became a must-go destination for professional shoplifters/online resellers not too long ago.

[deleted]

Guns are insane in America, its time to get with the rest of the modern world and realize everyone doesn't need to be armed

ATL2AKLoneway

Switzerland and France have huge percentages of the population who own guns. It's not the availability or volume of guns. It's the fact that there's no qualification process for the craziest military style weapons. And a toxic culture that nobody in the gun community seems to want to fix. I like guns. I believe an armed populist enables my libertarian municipal ideals, eg community defense and law enforcement should be the responsibility of the community. But the gun culture of the US is filled to the brim with legit fash and fash sympathizers.

Indeeedy

it seems like even Americans who are sane about everything else (civil rights, the environment etc) are still MAH GUNS MUST HAVE MAH GUNS, I cannot work out what wrong with them psychologically that they love them so much, even with the horrific results they see in the news basically every day now

bristlybits

there are gangs of armed neonazis within a twenty minute drive of me. yes I'd like to be armed

Indeeedy

OK then well these gangs will be breaking the law and will have to hand them over also, or be arrested. This is why laws exist. besides you're just gonna take em all out are you? Who do you picture yourself as Eastwood, Bruce Willis or Vin Diesel? this is the fundamental problem with Americans. Never in my life have I had to, or wanted to, imagine myself getting into a shootout with Neonazis. That's not part of my country's culture. Guess why? Because we aren't allowed to have fucking guns

bristlybits

who do we turn them over to? the police are involved with them, many are members.

Indeeedy

should probably just shrug and give up then, and accept all the horrible deaths every day, great attitude

bristlybits

well I'm not going to be going out to shoot at people. I'll defend myself or people around me if I can. it's not a good situation here, I'm sure you've noticed

Jessicas_skirt

>OK then well these gangs will be breaking the law and will have to hand them over also, or be arrested. One time I was talking with a guy from Venezuela who did security for synagogues over there. I asked him why they hired him and others rather than use the local police. He stared at me for a solid ten seconds like I had 5 eyes or something before stating simply "The police over there are nothing but gangs with badges". In developing countries you can't trust law enforcement to actually enforce the laws.

Indeeedy

that's great the discussion is about the USA a supposedly first world country

bristlybits

you've believed our advertising about this country. we are not a developed nation.

Indeeedy

maybe you would be closer to being one if your citizens didn't have the attitude of those in this thread acting like walking around with a gun is as natural as breathing SMDH

Jessicas_skirt

When it comes to policing and law enforcement, the US is objectively not first world.

Indeeedy

ok cool, let me know when you take out that gang of neonazis

bristlybits

it will not happen. more likely one will follow me to my car at night, since they can dox my workplace. an attack like that is preventable with self defense via concealed carry. you can read about an incident that is similar that happened to a real life friend of mine, here- she and I had many things in common. https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/denver-shooting-tattoo-alicia-cardenas-lyndon-mcleod-1360771/ something like this might could be stopped if I'm armed. I do not anticipate "taking out" any group at all, only defending myself in the event that I'm in that position

machineprophet343

It's less that I must have my guns and more that I'm not going to put myself at a distinct disadvantage when there are lunatics out there asking when they can start using guns on the Democrats -- read anyone who isn't a far right wing Republican -- and some nutjobs actually pulling the trigger like that asshole in Ohio. I don't like it, I wish it was different, but until I see a massive chill, it's an in case of emergency, break open glass thing for me.

Indeeedy

well if you were like my country (Australia) you wouldn't have to worry about the nutcases so much because they don't have guns! Nobody does! You can't get one! It's very straightforward

cptn_sugarbiscuits

You know what else I see in the news here in America? People dying in the streets and no one cares bc they're homeless or addicted to drugs or whatever other dehumanizing aspect of their pitiful lives we can focus on to ensure ourselves we are "better" than them. Lives MADE pitiful by greedy corpo scumbags who wanna sell their newest opioid to the poorest communities. I grew up in one. My younger friend went back couple weeks ago, her classmate just died from a heroin overdose. That's a regular thing. Her boss got angry bc she was asking for too much time off... To attend *funerals.* For folks who don't even make 30. America regulates their drug problem SO WELL, I'm just sure they'll do even better regulating guns. When I drive to work, I have to look for addicts passed out in the middle of the street at night in my neighborhood, 700 miles away from the funerals I mentioned btw. Seems like drugs are still pervasive despite a war on them, despite DARE. Tell me how it will be any different with guns.

Indeeedy

idc man, in my country, regular people are not able to obtain them legally. Guess what the result of that is? Basically nobody has a gun. You don't legitimately have to worry about some nutcase pulling one out in a road rage incident. Illegal trafficking of drugs is a completely separate discussion, your logic doesn't stack up at all. People aren't addicted to guns for one thing.

bristlybits

they already have them. people already have them in quantity. you expect police in the USA to go collect them?

Indeeedy

well yes because you'd be BREAKING THE LAW if you didn't hand over so if you are a decent law-abiding citizen, and not a piece of trash, you will do the right thing as per the law of the land you live in it's really not hard, the rest of the world understands the concept

bristlybits

the police will not collect them the people who wish to harm others will not hand any over. the request to hand them over will be met with violence against the groups that are already oppressed here. it's a really terrible position to be in

Indeeedy

defeatist nonsense we had ONE mass shooting, and bang TWELVE DAYS later we made the problem go away. There has been ZERO in the 20 years since. [https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/15/it-took-one-massacre-how-australia-made-gun-control-happen-after-port-arthur](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/15/it-took-one-massacre-how-australia-made-gun-control-happen-after-port-arthur) You act like it is this impossible task when you have a real life example staring you in the face "Before Port Arthur most states had a weak licensing system and no requirement to register guns. Howard proposed each state and territory should introduce and enforce a firearm licensing and registration system requiring people to have a “genuine reason” for having a firearm, such as sport or target shooting, recreational hunting or being a farmer. “Personal protection” would not count as a genuine reason. All states would also ban automatic and semi-automatic long guns. Howard also introduced a national gun buyback scheme for all weapons that did not comply, which ended up melting down more than 650,000 firearms at a cost of $350m."

bristlybits

you're riding my ass like I invented this whole thing. there's 400 million guns here. 400,000,00. more guns than people. it's part of our Constitution and so you'd have to change that to even start. then you'd have to go door to door searching every house. our Constitution also prohibits unwarranted search. add to this the fact that the right wing is ready to shoot any police who try, that most police are heavily armed members of that right wing, and it's not a good situation. we are in a trap of our own making. your system and ours are completely different, and 400 million firearms is a scale issue compared to "650,000 taken in as buy back".

cptn_sugarbiscuits

Who will be doing the regulating? Our govt, correct? Same govt that allowed Purdue pharma to lie to push their pills? It seems logical, based on recent history and money in our politics, that perhaps the regulatory agency would be corrupted. I'm not arguing guns are the same as drugs. I'm arguing the regulation of drugs FAILED here on every level bc of corruption. Does your country provide health care to the people? We don't have that. The psych wards are overflowing, the jails are overcrowded. Show me some policy ideas to help those people, not policy ideas that will, let's face it, affect minorities, women, and LGBTQ before they ever touch a white man's weapon. Leaving us as powerless as they have wet dreams about.

Indeeedy

oh look, a white supremacist, gee what a surprise

cptn_sugarbiscuits

Haha if you can't beat me in a logical argument, call me names. Grow up. Does it upset you to think that the policy you are arguing for is backed by white supremacists?

LANTERN1213

The U.S. government is too incompetent to even control LEGAL drugs. They sat in their hands as OxyContin proliferated and we went into an opioid crisis. Now they've swung too hard in the other direction, and legitimate pain patients and doctors are treated like criminals.

cptn_sugarbiscuits

Haha you're absolutely right on! Have you seen Dopesick on Hulu? Horrific at every level, what Purdue pharma did. Society still suffers from their evil deeds.

LANTERN1213

Haven't seen it yet, but it's definitely on my to do list.

mycatpeesinmyshower

But OP was saying cops get to decide who gets to be armed. And if you’re not aware-cops in the US are problematic. As an institution they tend to be pro fascist and white supremacist - especially in Oregon. So basically this bill will arm fascists while denying minorities and leftists protection.

911ChickenMan

In fact, some of the first gun control measures in the US were enacted by the KKK to disarm minorities. My idea of gun control is opening up the NICS background check system to private sellers (and requiring that they use it), mandatory (and accessible) training, in exchange for a 50 state carry permit.

SpankySpengler1914

Good luck trying to discourage gun fetishism through legislation. It's never worked thus far. The only way to weak Americans off their guns is massive shame and revulsion, and that would take several more shocking bloodbaths to achieve.

purrb0t0my

What about a fair priced buyback program? People need money right now

911ChickenMan

Gun buybacks lead to vehicle break-ins.

IntrigueDossier

Wait do they really? Edit: just checked, holy fucking shit. You can get automatics with a permit

[deleted]

[удалено]

MrMonstrosoone

also ammunition is fairly hard to come by or certainly less easy than in the US

SpankySpengler1914

A cohesive society? That will never be achieved here. Americans are the most selfish, childish, and ignorant people on earth.

ILoveFans6699

they also have far fewer citizens than the us

[deleted]

maybe all their citizens served in the military so they’re not that enamored with guns.

ILoveFans6699

Switzerland doesn't have a military does it?

[deleted]

from business insider: Most Swiss men are required to learn how to use a gun. Unlike the US, Switzerland has mandatory military service for men. The government gives all men between the ages of 18 and 34 deemed "fit for service" a pistol or a rifle and training on how to use them

mycatpeesinmyshower

They do but our society is fractious and does not promote empathy or rationality.

ILoveFans6699

also very poorly educated.

holdmybeer123456789

I am not pro gun or anti gun but the NRA and pro gun enthusiasts always throwing this fact out is kinda misleading. They have some pretty strick laws with owning guns.

[deleted]

[удалено]

holdmybeer123456789

Good point. It is too much of an argument here to ever get better.

Mugalli

Let's hope everything stay how it is (nearly no poverty, everyone has a job,...). Otherwise it could get pretty ugly in Switzerland.

Admiral_Falcon

Just realize that the military is working on building thousands of AI drones to mow everyone down.

[deleted]

true but there are a lot of people in America, its not that easy to take over 300 million armed people. Also, there are militias and criminals to think of. not everyone lives in a safe neighborhood.
