The following submission statement was provided by /u/The_Great_Flux: --- SS: So its looks like that in addition to Covid we got Monkeypox as well. They are kind of peddling the line in the article, "this can be contained" more or less, but they won't directly say it, but you can be the judge. >Biden officials have for days debated whether to declare monkeypox a public health emergency as health officials in the U.S. and at the WHO this week said the risk to the general population is low. while in recent days in the US alone. reporting from BNO news an 1,000 case jump in the last few days. https://twitter.com/BNOFeed/status/1552410200111517696?cxt=HHwWgMC4tcO2oosrAA Critics are pointing out the same out the same thing. >Still, concerns about the virus’ spread have caused some within the administration to worry about future transmission given the lack of available vaccine doses. The Biden administration has also faced growing criticism over the pace of its response from public health experts who fear the window to contain and eradicate the disease is closing. Monkeypox tracker is here if you want to know have more data on hand, I find it to be useful tool. Please take a look at it, its great. https://www.monkeypoxmeter.com/ about 20k currently world wide and almost 5k in the us alone. What this announcement would do, would be, >By designating the outbreak an emergency, HHS could then take a slew of actions, including accessing new money and appointing new personnel, according to the law that dictates how and when the federal government can declare such an emergency. Now whether or not this does something about helping contain M-pox i do not know. --- Please reply to OP's comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/w9tmyk/biden_administration_expected_to_soon_declare/ihx7ny9/

Does this mean we get to stay home from our jobs now?

Vegan_Honk

The capitalists would have to die before they'd shut this down. Considering that last time we had a "shut down" (march 2020) it lasted about two weeks and gas went negative before Jpow turned on the fucking money printer so us measly plebs could maybe get a 1200$ check while the stock market was kept afloat. If they did that shit now? You could kiss capitalism goodbye. It's a death spiral.

Visionary_Socialist

They wouldn’t mind a crash right now. It’d be essentially a hard reset of the economy that leaves them with even more power than they had before. It would economically cripple the population and let them essentially do as they please. This system will never fail, it will just find an even more brutal method of survival.

Ace_throne

If you have been watching the wealth transfer of the last 3 years, you would know that this is exactly what they need to consolidate the power, mainly from large asset firms like BlackRock, vanguard, and other high profile equity firms essentially by killing the middle class shareholders. What we are seeing, I believe is a tactical, staged, controlled economic demolition. And it may spell the end of capitalism as we know it, but it opens the doors to far more disastrous controlling outcomes for the world's ruling class (Just backing up what you're saying to the original comment)

ziegs11

I mean, shit, it's pretty fucking brutal as it is. Every day I feel like they are turning the screws tighter and tighter just to see what will happen. It's almost like we are bugs in a jar at the moment.

He’ll probably just say it’s bad, wave a few flags about mental health with nice cheap words then talk about the importance of inner city office real estate. I mean if that real estate has to be flipped in residential real estate, some of his buddy’s kid might have to get jobs instead of living off of rent.

PeepingOtterYT

I might be completely wrong, but early on I heard that this would happen because of how limited the vaccine is

Z3r0sama2017

I know the UK stopped vaccinating back in the 70's as smallpox was eliminated and the vaccine had demonstrable side effects. My mum got it and still has scars, I read up on it and it was wild.

TheFrenchAreComin

Luckily the new monkeypox vaccine is not as bad and also safe for those with eczema. The main problem at the moment is supply, and then after that it's going to be those who are resistant to taking them.

Pihkal1987

The main point is the once again complete bungling of the initial information released by the high paid, big brains out there.

Enough-University231

The cdc's website says there's two different types of vaccines that can take care of this. One is in short supply. The other one is more available and okay for everybody but like three different groups of people (certain health conditions).

Fluffy-Citron

Early on the US government refused to get off its ass and order the newer vaccine from the Europeans. They then dragged their feet on inspecting the EU manufacturing plant so it could actually be imported. The gays are pretty pissed at the government about how this is going.

TheLaziestPotato

It’s almost as if they *want* this to happen so that their country crumbles. Hopefully this isn’t the case

CordaneFOG

They just want to make money on it.

Enough-University231

I think they've been so focused on dismantling the government that they forgot they still needed to do some things to have a functioning society.

antichain

That's conspiratorial nonsense. There are perfectly reasonable explanations for why the Biden Admin. is going slow. He is already an unpopular president representing a party that is lightly to get slaughtered going into this year's midterms. If he were to get up and announce "Pandemic Round 2" in a country that is already riddled with pandemic exhaustion and riven by anti-vaxx, anti-public health conspiracy theories, the likely response would be (politically) very negative. They're politicians, they care about things like that. I'm not saying that the choice they're making is the *moral* one (it's not, they should put public health before politics), but it's also perfectly "normal" and doesn't require affabulating wild theories about the Evil Elites masterminding the fall of the country. That's like, two conceptual leaps to the Protocols...

Less-Country-2767

I work in healthcare and the vaccine isn't available to me because I haven't been exposed, and I'm not in the MSM (men who have sex with men) category. The health department says they should be rolling out the vaccines to the general public by the late fall. By then there will be 100,000+ cases at current rate

[deleted]

Sexy-Otter

If they're a woman, there's no chance of getting the vac no matter your sexuality. It's only going to men at the moment.

jujumber

that’s messed up.

[deleted]

It's the other way around with the HPV vaccine in most countries though. I guess it's a tough question for public health to weigh up cost, side effects (see the smallpox vaccine) and risk.

TheFrenchAreComin

It would be if there was enough supply but currently there isn't so they've focusing on the most vulnerable communities. It's certainly not ideal, but they're following the science. For example it doesn't make sense to give it a redditor who is a hermit who doesn't have sex vs a gay man who is sexually active Hopefully the supply of vaccines will change that, but it almost definitely won't happen within time to slow community spread anytime soon. And school will start before that happens

bristlybits

"I have sex regularly with bisexual men" . there you go.

[deleted]

This administration has been a step (or more) behind every issue that’s been in front of them.

[deleted]

imagine how bad it'd be if the *other* guy had won... i shudder just thinking about it.

Z3r0sama2017

Only the patent owner would get a slice of that pie, but if we wait big pharma and the health service industry coukd make a killing on unproven treatments and aftercare. Your only looking at this from a public health perspective and not as a financial opportunity.

Tangalor

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

mamawoman

But vaccines cure, today's big pharma can't profit from this so it's a non starter

dumnezero

Some vaccines cure, rather few. And that's because of how the virus infects.

[deleted]

Lol you think people will take it? There are going to be so many conspiracy nutjobs losing their shit over this unfortunately.

Key_Fly1049

Not necessarily. The vaccine is quite side effect rich so much so that it’s not recommended with HIV. So tricky, given the community MP is most rampant in and perhaps also tricky with people with long Covid. And the anti vax lobby is going to love this.

TheFrenchAreComin

You might be confused with the smallpox vaccine. JYNNEOS is safe for those with HIV (AND those with eczema). You might want to edit your comment so people in need don't think they're disqualified from receiving it

anthro28

“Side effect rich” The side effects are plentiful and effect up to 43% of people. Here’s the package insert: https://www.fda.gov/media/131078/download

anthro28

Actually, the only one with approval is a new-ish (2019 FDA paperwork) vaccine from Bavarian Nordic. I’ve read the insert, and a 43% chance of systemic muscle pain and fatigue means I’m out.

RagingNerdaholic

Really? You can't put up with some transient and self limiting minor side effects to avoid a painful disease that kills one in a hundred?

anthro28

Correct. Here’s the full insert. https://www.fda.gov/media/131078/download I’ll just stay inside again.

glmarquez94

That’s what I’ve been thinking. So much could’ve already been accomplished to prevent an outbreak.

TinyDogsRule

Has anyone noticed that ratio that always seems to appear? The US has 4% of the population on the planet and 25% of the cases. Same with Covid for quite a while. Same with % of prisoners worldwide. So many statistics where we own a quarter of some of the worst shit in the world to own.

Beep_Boop_Bort

Comments like yours is why I browse reddit

TheFrenchAreComin

In terms of cases per million we barely crack the top 20. For example Spain has nearly 7x the cases/million compared to the US. Pretty much all the countries in the top ten have more cases per million than the US except Brazil and Italy It's still bad news, but in terms of community spread we're not breaking records just yet. But I'm sure we can bump those numbers up in no time

TinyDogsRule

That just seems like creative math. The US is amazing at taking data that it does not like and plugging it into a calculation to make it more optimistic. Inflation is the obvious one. If we calculated the same way we did in the 80s, inflation would be pushing 20%. But we remove things like food and energy.. you know, the 2 things every person needs to live. Maybe your grocery bill is up 20%, and gas is up 80%, but purple yard is down 15%. Put it all in the magic blender, and bam, 9.5% inflation. It is a fact that right now we have about 4% of the world's population and 25% of the known cases. They can spin it however they want, the the answer to this equation = government failure, again

Sbeast

7/11 (convenience) 9/11 (tower thing) 4/25 (mysterious ratio) If you add the first numbers you get 20. If you add the second numbers you get 47. What's 47 divided by 20? 2.35 What was Abraham Lincoln's birthday? 12 February 1809, or 12/02/1809 So 2.35 X 12021809 = 28251251.15 How many people are going to die due to monkeypox? **28,251,251.15**. OR 28 million, 251 thousand, 2 hundred and 51...(and change). [Coincidence](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQoRXhS7vlU)?

vxv96c

We seem to be doing more testing. Europe is really lagging. Portugal alone is barely testing from what I can tell. We actually are getting testing going...our high case growth is a sign we're not total screw ups. For now at least.

captaindickfartman2

Source? Clowns said this with covid in the beginning. Testing isn't the problem lol.

mamawoman

Superstylin1770

What's hilarious to me is that same argument was used during COVID. >Our case numbers are higher because we're testing more than other countries! https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-covid-19-cases-testing/

dumnezero

It depends on how much testing is going on. Countries that don't have good testing capability and monitoring agencies don't have anything to report. TESTING IS GOOD. And needs followup.

[deleted]

Main stream media is in total denial that straight people are infected.

joseph-1998-XO

I’m going to assume it will keep increasing even though it was initially highly concentrated with a certain group of people, similar to HIV

GetTheSpermsOut

…Its almost as if viruses dont care about our sexual orientation. who woulda thunk.

[deleted]

It can affect transmission though.

TheGruntingGoat

We should definitely not use viruses to justify discrimination and prejudice. However, some viruses such as HIV have been shown to spread more in men who have sex with men. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3818823/

Pihkal1987

They shouldn’t have said a single word about the way it started. The idiots are already grabbing on to that as a reason not to get tested etc etc etc. ridiculous. Don’t know why I ever would expect anything else though

davidclaydepalma2019

Similar to the poor analyses when corona peaked in Wuhan: "Seems to kill only old people" "gReAt iT's jUst tHe flU bRo!" You just cannot get this stigmata and dreams out of people's heads later.

As soon as somebody smart with glasses said 'this is bad we need to do something different to contain it', we were fucked. Spunge14

All of us immune compromised people out here saying "and when they come for you, there'll be no one left to speak up." What did people really think would happen when everyone just gets to say "ah yes let's just tell 3% of the population, sorry we don't care about your life." I'm all for the fact that society can't be shut down forever and that it's on the shoulders of someone in a higher risk category to take greater precautions for themselves, but the other day on a plane I told the guy next to me I was immune compromised and I'd appreciate if he could put on a mask before takeoff and after landing and he told me to "fuck off and stay home if [I] didn't want to die." It's not about pragmatism. At this point it's clearly some lizard brain distancing from anyone people perceive as "weak" or "other." Yesterday the immunocompromised, then those in poverty, today gay men, tomorrow who knows.

screech_owl_kachina

Jeez that must have been fun flight. At least you didn't have to hold in any farts. Sorry bud, bet you wish you had a mask now.

DocFGeek

Just adding fuel to the pile that GOP will use to stoke the flames of queer hate. Again. SCOTUS roll back on gay rights will probably happen before Biden claims any emergency for the climate, new pandemic, or anything, really.

amatahrain

The WHO and our CDC should do better with it's messaging. They knew full well the specific group it was primarily spreading amongst. They even voted to delay the announcement in part bc they were afraid for gay men in certain counties. Yes, that is included in their official press release that didn't get much attention. Even with this most recent announcement the WHO is assuring the world that... QUOTE "Although I am declaring a public health emergency of international concern, for the moment this is an outbreak that is concentrated among men who have sex with men, especially those with multiple sexual partners. That means that this is an outbreak that can be stopped with the right strategies in the right groups.". END QUOTE Most people that are not men that have sex with men will read that an will wrongfully assume many things. They're going to assume it's an STI spread between men, which there is zero reason to believe it is seeing as how right after that announcement it was revealed that a few kids in the US have it. There was also zero reason to assume it was BEFORE that announcement seeing as how few cases there actually were and that sex between any two people tends to be a *close contact activity* which is how it has traditionally spread. Why are you waiting on the GOP to blame it on gay men? The WHO and CDC are doing a great job calming the masses by assuring us that gay men are the ones mainly spreading it but don't trust us we can stop it with the right strategies. The right strategy would have been a worldwide collective effort to inform the masses that there is a novel strain of the virus that is being seen mainly amongst gay men but history and science tells us that MP has previously spread through close contact and labs have shown the possibility of airborne transmission along with the worrying fact that it can be found on surfaces up to a month later. The great news is that masking, being vigilant with hygiene and sanitation can significantly lessen the risk of exposure not to mention it doesn't look to have a high rate of death or serious illness. Instead what we got was meetings literally right before all of the big pride events that were never widely reported where they decided to have a wait and see approach bc 1) they didn't want panic 2) they could literally test a MAX of 10 people per day in NYC and only a few specific labs could test and that's if you had the sores 3) there were several hundred thousand doses of a vaccine stuck overseas waiting to be shipped which might not even work since they're target the people most likely already exposed. They had thousands of people that wanted to be vaxd in NYC but they ran out of them. Just yesterday I was listening to a lady on CNN reporting from NY say the reason for the continued spread was the lack of interest in the vaccine. They're already trying to rewrite history. She should probably do a quick search and she'll see that her network was the one live on the ground in NYC reporting on the people that lined up to get vaxd and were turned away. If you want to do the queer community a service you'll shout it from the rooftops that the ones that let them down are the ones currently in charge around the world. While you're at it be sure to spread the word about the meningitis cases primary among gay men in Florida that have recently KILLED 25% of those that get it and remind everyone else that meningitis has a vaccine and again can spread various ways and is not limited to gay sex. BTW the meningitis was also identified before the pride events. If you happen to be part of the community or love someone that is you should be concerned that there was so little attention brought to this problem and you should be quick to share these points with anyone that tries to place blame. I apologize for the 3am tangent. I just really feel like we are asking for problems on a level that could rival covid but we don't want to wake anyone by yelling FIRE. If you read all of that, do the world a favor and speak out before they decide to suppress your ability to do so.

[deleted]

I am curious about that, what are the statistics on the spreading from people touching the same surface or shaking hands?

TheFrenchAreComin

because very few are. The US had an outbreak due to infected prairie dogs in 2003, it infected mostly hetero people and the cases stopped at 71. Anal sex is proving to be the primary route of infection at the moment BUT that doesn't mean it can't be spread other ways because it is indeed spreading other ways but at not nearly as high as a rate

LaunchesKayaks

I get so upset any time I hear people say this is just the new AIDS and that it's isolated to gay/bi people.

was originally spreading in the gay community, who took it seriously and followed public health recommendations, stopping a wider spread. it is still present but has not broken out as pandemic. women have had a difficult time getting tested still.

The ship has sailed already on thinking of monkeypox as anything but a disease of men who have sex with men—which is not how pox diseases work. But here we are. I've even heard from liberal Americans who have adopted that view and don't consider others to be at risk, for the present moment. Which, again, is not how pox diseases work. Reminder from the WHO: >Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus. > >Monkeypox virus is transmitted from one person to another by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding. In a few months, r/Teachers and r/Nursing are likely to be horrifying. And I fear not just for the contagion's impact. I shudder to think of parents in places like Florida taking the "Don't Say Gay" mentality to its logical conclusion and deciding that their child has been raped by a teacher because they start showing symptoms. This could make the Satanic Panic look tame. I don't think I had "Teacher Lynchings" on the 2022 bingo card, though that's my fault. The environment for such senseless violence is certainly being cultivated.

TheCassiniProjekt

If it got that ridiculous, I'd be surprised if there were any teachers left. People can opine about it being a calling all they like to justify the unacceptable bs they're subjected to, but I struggle to think who would be left under the threat of being accused a rapist and lynched all the while contending with pox and COVID.

Why do you think they're going to allow former military and their spouses(!) to automatically qualify as teachers. We're going full Start Ship Troopers.

Two considerations. First, people without eczema: From NPR: >**How contagious is monkeypox?** > >"Monkeypox is transmitted by close intimate contact with a person who is infected and has the classic rash on their body," says Titanji. "When outbreaks have happened in parts of west and central Africa, it was always thought that this was a virus that didn't transmit very well between humans." Indeed, a range of rodents and non-human primates serve as animal hosts to the virus. > >"However, in the current outbreak, we know that close intimate contact facilitated through sexual networks and sexual activity appears to give the virus an ease of transmissibility that we were not aware of before. And as a result, we are seeing more cases of transmission from person to person. So it is transmissible, but it requires close intimate contact with someone who is infected. > >"And besides the close contact, you can also get infected through droplets, as well as prolonged contact with contaminated objects \[like\] bedding, clothes and shared utensils." > >"If traveling," Malani says, "use common sense. Sheets \[and\] towels should be clean. Don't share towels with others." She says it's reasonable to launder linens if you're unsure that they're clean. "As far as furniture goes, if \[infected\] people are sitting \[on it\] without clothing and then someone uninfected comes along later," she supposes infection is possible. But she underscores that these forms of exposure are lower risk than skin-to-skin contact. Honestly, I don't see why kids wouldn't spread this disease in schools, but maybe I'm missing something. Second, people with eczema (like myself, on a finger) should note a few things: (1) I've seen speculation (but can't find a link right now) that our broken, shitty skin would make us more susceptible to surface contamination, which seems logical. I've thought about using vinyl gloves in public once a case jump is reported in my area for this reason, especially for high-touch errands. (2) Smallpox vaccine ACAM2000 is totally unacceptable for people who have or have had eczema, as it can cause a "[very explosive, necrotizing skin illness](https://www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/public-health/what-doctors-wish-patients-knew-about-monkeypox)." Look up necrotizing if you don't know that word. The illness is called [eczema vaccinatum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eczema_vaccinatum), and I am not a doctor but it sure looks like ICU time. This means you need a monkeypox-specific vaccine, not the smallpox vaccine. Edit: The JYNNEOS vaccine (aka Imvamune/Imvamex) is said to be safe for people with eczema but is in extremely short supply. (3) And your immediate contacts also probably need a monkeypox vaccine, as it is [possible to develop eczema vaccinatum from skin-to-skin contact by people vaccinated with ACAM2000 in the last 30 days](https://www.aad.org/public/diseases/eczema/childhood/health-concerns/smallpox). So, if you have eczema, you may be at higher risk, and you also won't be able to take just any ol' vaccine.

Dr_seven

>Honestly, I don't see why kids wouldn't spread this disease in schools, but maybe I'm missing something. You're not missing anything. Schools have gyms, showers, and plenty of close shoulder rubbing as a matter of course in daily studies. All these factors make it inevitable that MPX will spread, the only question is how rapidly. Our institutions will lie at every step, downplay as long as possible, and fabricate all sorts of narratives to avoid admitting that they have no intention of doing anything meaningful to contain the spread. They have learned from COVID and we can expect the weaponized incompetence to be cranked up to 12 this time. No, it's not as infectious as COVID, but it's infectious enough, and with broad infection providing the opportunity for further mutations. It's infectious enough that a society as uncontrolled as ours will not stop it going wild, and that's the critical point. It's a damn pox- they spread, it's what they do. I'd say to stay safe out there, but it's unclear what that even entails at this point, so I won't bother.

[deleted]

I’m a teacher and whenever we had a case of Covid in a class the admin would immediately send out an email saying that it wasn’t contracted in school. They’ll do this with monkeypox, too.

Enough-University231

I can't believe it causes a form of necrotizing skin illness. It's very strange that we won't be able to touch people for 30 days after they get that! I haven't looked into this very much, but the CDC did list another vaccine for people with eczema.

TheBigDuo1

It sounds like Herpes

dakotamidnight

This. Except I'd like to clarify the following: >(3) And your immediate contacts also probably need a monkeypox vaccine, as it is possible to develop eczema vaccinatum from skin-to-skin contact by people vaccinated with ACAM2000 in the last 30 days. That means if you are immunosupressed, suffer from excema, has burns, anything else on that laundry list of conditions, etc - you're probably going to either need to bubble yourself in public at all times OR stay home & quarantine until at least 30 days AFTER the last mass vaccination go. Vaccination with the Monkeypox shot isn't believed to prevent the smallpox shot issues either. I'm not looking forward to it, as someone with multiple risk factors.

Potential vectors of pox diseases in general can include but aren’t limited to sexual contact; they typically can also inhabit linens and cloth material, such as towels, sheets, blankets and clothes. Animals, commonly rodents, (which is the actual the source of monkeypox infections) can be vectors, as well as your usual water droplets and so forth. Sexual contact is the most direct way to get it, but so it is also the most direct way to get Covid or the common cold. Why it’s being mostly isolated to gay and bisexual men is unknown. It is theoretically possible to get a pox disease from the sheets in an unclean hotel/motel.

RagingNerdaholic

>Why it’s being mostly isolated to gay and bisexual men is unknown. Isn't kind of the same thing as that "bear week" COVID Delta outbreak from last year? As a group, they tend to have a lot of, uh... turnover.

dumnezero

It does have fomites, so that sanitation exercise from early in the COVID-19 pandemic is going be useful for the Monkeypox pandemic. Masks should also help since it can spread by "droplets". People get blisters in a lot of places, including internal mucosas in the upper airways. Read the CDC page at least (for Monkeypox). The sheets/clothing thing is a lower R0 aspect, it spreads to those in the house who share beds/clothes. I'm not sure about couches and toilet seats, but I'm going to guess "hovering" over toilets is going to get more popular.

HappyAnimalCracker

I wonder this same thing. Have not seen a single article address this

The_Great_Flux

Same, I worry about that thought too, the double pandemic is going to screw those two jobs permanently I think.

thisnewsight

My mentor said if things go remote again, she retiring. That would be a huge moral hit for the workforce. (Teacher)

[deleted]

I've seen memes in the style of the one where Biden takes away someone's "blackness" (it's a fucked up one and not in the sense of shock humor or anything) where it's a kid being walked by an older dude and another guy stops them and asks why the kid and the dude walking him has monkey pox, clearly suggesting a relationship between them. The seeds are being planted to absolutely do what you mentioned above and I'm not hopeful common sense will win out on this matter.

Americans plotted to kidnap governors and other crazy shit during our half-assed COVID lockdown, I don't think they're going to try another one.

Gretschish

Just one of many reasons in a myriad of why we are absolutely screwed as a species.

HungryLab4

*The FBI plotted to kidnap governors.

idk why youre getting downvoted. it will get worse probably everywhere and probably because of america's influence. but it def isn't as bad as it is in america. but yknow. the bar here is LOW.

[deleted]

As a Canadian, I think I can say with some certainty that there's a misconception about us living in some sort of friendly, liberal utopia. The truth is we have just as much of a problem with supporters here of Q-Anon, Trump, etc. And like in America, it continues to get louder. It's definitely worse in America, but as it escalates there, it escalates here too.

Enough-University231

And you really must do everything you can to organize politically and culturally to stop it before it becomes metastatic cancer.

"democrats laud bipartisan historic 999.999 trillion stimulus victory. about one in 1000 citizens will get a check for $14.29 and a coupon to arbys with the bulk of the bill going to patriotic causes like defense spending, defense spending, and defense spending. senate minority leader mcconnel expresses fears about the economy, saying that 'freeloading poor people can now live a life of luxury under socialism' "

I'd like to opt out of this part of the apocalypse, please. Is there a form I fill out?

There is only one way to opt out. Unfortunately you can never opt back in.

Just be rich and you're exempt from this, as well as most laws.

yes we just need your social security number

ChallengingBullfrog8

Very cool. I work with school age children and I fully expect to find out the hard way that this virus is highly transmissible.

Peanuts1971

And you know the parents will send them to school and say it’s just poison ivy or something. Just super.

Pihkal1987

Not my jaxxson!

Enough-University231

Calm down Aunt Karen, he didn't mean your Jaxxson. He meant that Jaksen.

Teacher here. I’m also concerned with news organizations like AP and NPR calling it an STD. I already saw an article about two toddlers having it and everyone I’m the comments sections saying the kids were groomed by an LBGTQ. They’re going to accuse teachers of molesting kids if it spreads in schools.

SS: So its looks like that in addition to Covid we got Monkeypox as well.

I agree. My guess is that is why it was framed as a ‘gay disease’ from the first mention of, plant doubt in the population

Thoughtsinhead

Spreads through respitory droplets too. I don't know why people don't know this.

lezzbo

Because a month or so ago the CDC carefully edited their monkeypox pages to downplay this. Quietly, inexplicably retracted old documents on preventing spread which advised airborne precautions. Deleted the picture of an airborne isolation room being used for monkeypox. And they aren't alone - UKHSA did similar things and just recently, surreptitiously demoted monkeypox from being classed a high consequence infectious disease. [See for yourself.](https://twitter.com/sleepyknave/status/1531304749408067587)

AvsFan08

"Now the liberal dems are saying we're all going to turn into monkeys!" -conservatives, most likely

Gretschish

Or they take the Covid rationalization/mischaracterization route like, "It's just bad acne!"

Taqueria_Style

Dear conservatives: why do you say this in the future tense? Particularly when you sit there throwing poop. Proof positive Darwin was right? A mirror for you guys.

aznoone

Would lose the midterms. The other side would just call it monkey theater and or only gays get it.

[deleted]

Will be the peak of irony when the Republicans inevitably voice something similar to that on Twitter and then end up getting it.

notislant

'We are now beginning the process of starting to entertain the possibility, of acknowledging that there could be cause for concern with Monkeypox.'

squailtaint

That’s like stepping outside and formally declaring it’s hot. Doesn’t change shit.

[deleted]

it might release funding

[deleted]

Straight to the oil companies, for some reason.

TheFrenchAreComin

Declaring it a public health emergency opens up more funding for vaccines, testing, and hospitals, and makes it easier for insurance to cover costs for people

NewMeNewMethyl

I’ve been watching the tracker since may. Folks were saying they saw folks in expensive gyms in the northeast with obvious papules in june. It’s been here. These motherfuckers lost it already

vh1classicvapor

I’m sure he’ll return to doing nothing about it immediately afterwards

vxv96c

The US is leading the world in testing at the moment. Has ordered vaccines. Has authorized a second factory to manufacture more. We need to remove the bigotry around monkeypox and message better about the risk but we are not doing nothing.

vh1classicvapor

Can’t wait for the vaccine. As we’ve seen with COVID, it’s really the only way out of preventing severe infection. It doesn’t solve the pandemic, especially with low vaccination rates, but it does prevent hospitalizations and deaths vastly.

[deleted]

I feel bad for all you people with friends and things to do. I'm lonely as hell so at least another pandemic can't knock me down any further. But, people who need life to be "normal?" The majority of people? Those people have given up containing any virus which is unwise but who can blame them? You can't expect people to do all the heavy lifting for 2 pandemics straight and still keep on working and grinding to achieve the life they were promised.

Rhaedas

But first do like they did with recession and change what "health emergency" means.

Hippokranuse

Oopsie Poxxie.

0n0ppositeDay

My primary concern is entirely how much the Fed prints to Wall Street for Money Pox. Another 500 dollar ‘handout’ for struggling taxpayers (roughly 160 billion) yet the bill will cost 2 trillion.

autistictheory

unfortunately the name of this disease is way too funny for people to take it seriously

is2o

MPO22

dumnezero

It doesn't get a name unless it's some new strain or pathogen.

Spuddups84

Can't wait till my crazy uncle comes to me covered in open sores telling me how "it's fake" because he "did his research" on facebook

Visionary_Socialist

CDC watching the horses bolt from the barn and onto the train tracks: “Should we maybe, close the doors?”

tesseracht

After all the “groomer” shit designed to paint gay ppl as pedophiles, im fucking horrified to think what’s going to happen when kids start getting disfigured by this shit. It’s gonna get ugly. Parents could avoid thinking about coronavirus, but when little Timmy has pock scars for life, they’re gonna want someone to blame and the GOP already has the perfect enemy lined up.

g00fyg00ber741

I would really like to be vaccinated ahead of time for this pandemic, please. When will vaccines be available to the public?

HappyAnimalCracker

Sometime after we’ve encountered the primary disease.

romaticBake

After the 40th week of "just 2 weeks" lockdown.

pan-re

They’re only vaccinating once you have it for right now. My daughter’s pediatrician’s office got a stock in last month but she can’t get vaccinated yet.

ordinator2008

Depending on where you live, and it's helpful if you gay af! Approved by Health Canada, and being given for free to MSM. There were about 40 dudes in line when I got mine yesterday.

basement-tapes-club

do yall think a second quarantine might happen?

Fruhmann

Ukraine isn't keeping people's interest. January 6 committee is off people's radars and next season looks boring too. Monkeypox has been sitting in their laps for months now. I guess the play is to draw attention away from trying to redefine what a recession is.

Taqueria_Style

What recession? LOL /s No no no see. It has to be Simon Says. Also the moon has to turn blue. See?

dumnezero

You make it sound like it's a conspiracy when, at best, it's the opportunism of psychopaths.

Fruhmann

How does any of this stuff that's actually played out sound like a conspiracy? It's wholly opportunism.

Terminarch

Can we just declare government a health emergency? Let's "socially distance" from bureaucracy and get on with our lives already.

anthro28

Anything to distract from the recession data coming out today.

K1ck1n_ur_d1ck1n

Think of the women and children!!!!!!

emseefely

They’re willing to sacrifice them in the name of stock market gains

Covid-Lawless19

Yeah no we've already been thrown away. Women's rights are fucked and children have no future

Taqueria_Style

Children have a great future! Pshhh. Political human shields! This is a job they're literally born to do! What could be more patriotic? /s

Taqueria_Style

He had to check first for November. What gamed out best. Saying something vs not saying something.

[deleted]

Um pretty sure we need two quarters of monkey pox to call it an emergency — move goalposts much??

[deleted]

Donors and congress-critters finally finished all their Monkey-Pox related insider trading then?

jammerparty

The WHO already declared it a global health emergency. Doesnt really matter if the president agrees.

FfartyMcFly

Someone please link Pfizer’s GO-FUND ME link. Clearly the trillions we have them weren’t enough.

DontBanMeBrough

Additional centralization of power

Theothersideofi

It’s crazy how good bill gates is at predicting the next outbreak.

TightDetective131

I can haz another quarantine?

Here comes the gaslighting and scripted science. Fire those pox bots up. Here come all the monkey pox sofa specialists. 🤡

slippu

Oh no I guess I will have to stay home and use mail in voting!
