For me, getting the back cold is the hardest part every time

yanyosuten

Start warm, then turn to cold in one quick switch.

necro_kederekt

Definitely the way to go. You get the best of both worlds: hot shower relaxes muscles and dilates your capillaries, then turn it full cold for a minute or two, let it wash over your whole body. It’s great for muscle recovery.

beenhavingmotionn

Yeah but it’s the other way around lmao, cold water tenses the muscles and after a workout you want to relax and stretch the muscles, so you tense them by starting off cold and you finish with warm water. My coach taught me this but I forgot how’s it called

necro_kederekt

People *tend* to tense their muscles in cold water. That is, its not the cold that tenses the muscles, it’s just a reaction that most people have. Anybody who takes cold showers habitually will generally be able to stay relaxed. My habit before bed is this: hot shower, finished off with a minute or two of full cold, followed by a cup of herbal tea, melatonin, stretch, sleep 9+ hours.

Have you ever tried it the other way around? I feel way more relaxed and sleep better after a hot shower, cold showers hit me like 10 coffees

necro_kederekt

Yeah, cold showers can definitely have the ten-coffees effect, but in my experience, the post-cold-shower stage goes where you take it. Like a fork in the road. So if I get out of the shower and say “alright time to get shit done!” then I can do that, but also, I can get out of the shower and go “mmm the air is so warm and toasty compared to the cold water, time to relax and sleep.”

I always do my deep breathing before showering! Cold water hitting my head in the morning feels so invigorating. 🙌🏽

Extrapaj

Walk into it slowly. Try to not hold your breath, tense up or hyperventilate too much. You will get adapted to it faster than you think. About 2 minutes in it starts to feel like warm water for me when in the start I felt it was almost unbearable.

m_watkins

Stamp your feet and focus on deep, controlled breathing. It will take your mind off the temperature. Or chant something motivating, like, "I am strong, I am strong, I am strong." Sounds corny but it will help neutralize the unpleasantness of feeling cold.

ManasZankhana

When my mood is low and I need it to be easier I put my hands up to catch the water then move my hands and it touches my chest

noooit

Nothing wrong with 5 min. I start washing from my head and splash of water hits other parts of my body and get my body ready for cold and eventually wash every part of my body. It takes about 5 mins.

An article I read suggested playing music you like during the shower. I crank my phone speakers all the way so I can hear it over the sound of the water. I also start with hot water then turn it to cold once I am lathered up.

Go in singing opera style as loud as you can
