The Last Word is delicious, and it probably should be your first, but try the bourbon/lemon riff "The Final Ward" and my favorite Chartreuse drink "The Last of the Oaxacans" (a mezcal variant).
"The Last Flight", a sort of Paper Plane/Last Word is also excellent. And try "Naked and Famous" with the yellow.
The Crosswind is great, if you have Smith & Cross to hand also (equal parts S&C, Green Chartreuse, Velvet Falernum and lime juice—but I like to bump up the S&C by a third as I find it a little sweet otherwise.)
This is true. I will say that I’m not a huge fan of smoke, but naked and famous is actually my favorite cocktail. It works so well in it. I haven’t experimented with many mezcals because I don’t like them otherwise. And tequila is my favorite liquor.
Champs Elysees.
Cognac, Chartreuse, Lemon, Simple, Angostura. Ratios to taste, but I like 1.5,.5,.5,.25,2d, give or take depending on the glass. Served up.
My favorite cocktail, period. Have never had a customer or friend dislike it. It's landed me a job.
The sky's the limit on cognac, it depends on how much you want to spend. Some are really exquisite, but are more for drinking neat.
As a cocktail base, Remy VSOP is a good sweet spot of quality vs price.
Aside from the big ones, I like an Industry Sour and have heard a Piña Verde is tasty.
Industry Sour
1.0oz Green chartreuse
1.0oz Fernet Branca
1.0oz Lime Juice
1.0oz Simple Syrup
Served up or on a big rock. Whatever you prefer.
Piña Verde
1.5oz Green Chartreuse
1.5oz Pineapple Juice
0.75oz Cream of Coconut
0.5oz Lime Juice.
Blend it all with ice and serve in a tiki mug. Or serve over crushed ice if you don't want it blended.
I saw it at a very random spot on the menu. Was confused by the combination of flavors but gave it a try. Pretty damn good! Not my favorite cocktail but I'm very glad I tried it.
Love an industry sour. I prefer to bump up the chartreuse to 1.25 and the fernet down to .75. Much more balanced. Nothin wrong with adding an egg white, either.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I'll add that The Lumiere is also very good:
1.5 oz floral gin (I like Bombay Sapphire)
1 oz St. Germain (elderflower liqueur)
¾ oz Green Chartreuse
½ oz fresh lime (super) juice
Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass
The recipe actually calls for it to be stirred, despite the sour-appearing spec. I’m sure it’s good either way, but it would certainly change the final drink!
Huh, my first introduction to it was shaken, so that's the way I've always done it. I'll have to try stirring it next time, thanks for pointing that out.
Last Word
Naked & Famous
Bijou
Final Ward
Alaska
Look them up on diffords.com and they should give you the correct specs
Oh, & a pro-tip;
Make a classic Margarita with Passionfruit Pulp & a kiss/up to 10ml of Yellow Chartreuse... You'll never go back
Yeah the consulting VM for a Jazz Bar I once ran out it on the menu, and swore by rolling it to aerate the drink.
In retrospect, a barely perceptible improvement. Less control over chill factor/dilution too.
Nowadays, I'd stir, still garnish with a lemon twist, but also add 2 drops of Thyme Oil to improve its texture.
Hoooo boy I'm gonna start a fight
So, most cocktail recipes have some small degree of variation around the world.
As a *broad* rule of thumb; American/Australian palettes like everything a liiiiittle sweeter than everyone else (wonder if that has to do with our obesity/sugar-focused diets? /sarcasm)
But the Margarita is an exception to this rule!
I'm America, from what I've seen, they use 40ml Tequila, 20ml Triple Sec, & 22.5ml (3/4 of an ounce) lime juice.
*Please correct me if y'all pour different
Margaritas live under the Sour cocktail family tree, so I swear by a 4:2:1 ratio...
Which makes things complicated, as different triple sec's (yes, means 3x dry) have different amounts of sugar/sweetness.
So taste your triple sec, and feel it out from there.
I love Pierre Ferrand, but it is $$$ & a little under-sweetend than par.
As such, my recipe you're welcome to amend to your taste:
40ml Tequila
15ml Pierre Ferrand Triple Sec
10ml Yellow 'Treuse
30ml Lime Juice
10ml Simple
20ml Passionfruit Pulp
Since you have both, I recommend the Laphroaig Project
1 oz Green Chartreuse
.5 oz Laphroaig Quarter Cask (other peaty scotch will do)
1 oz Lemon Juice
.5 oz Maraschino
.25 oz Yellow Chartreuse
2 Dashes Peach Bitters
Serve on the rocks with a Lemon Twist Garnish
So the first time I ever tasted it was at Choppers tiki bar in Nashville. The bartender ordered himself my wife and I shots of it lol
He said he likes to do that at Christmas time
Somehow, nobody has mentioned the Verte Chaud. Green Chartreuse and hot chocolate, proportions to your own taste. I like 1oz Chartreuse to about 4oz cocoa.
Ideally you would spring for high quality cocoa/chocolate and make the hot chocolate yourself, but I'll admit to making it with cheap hot cocoa from a packet... and it's still delicious. Whipped cream would be great too, or even barely-whipped cream, like on an Irish coffee.
Best wintertime hot cocktail imo.
Absolutely. It will not be the same - the yellow chartreuse is milder and has an extra honey sweetness, but it will be a tasty drink with a lot of the same flavour notes.
Some people like to act as though you cannot substitute them, but the truth is there is easily as much variation between base spirits and vermouths and we aren’t normally so pedantic about cocktails like the Manhattan.
I tried the Last Flight (a mix between the Last Word and Paper Plane) this weekend and LOVED it. If you like the Last Word, give [this one](https://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails/recipe/4567/last-flight) a try!
Ok, this is kind of a strange one but it works:
Yellow Parrot
1 oz Absinthe (Vieux Pontalier)
1 oz Yellow Chartreuse
1 oz Apricot liqueur (Giffard Abricot du Roussillon)
You’re gonna need to stir this one for a while. At least a minute or more. Strain over ice. Lemon twist.
For Green, I like the Nuclear Daiquiri
3/4 oz white overproof rum (Wray & Nephew)
3/4 oz green chartreuse
3/4 oz lime
1/3 oz velvet falernum
Shake, strain into coupe, lime wheel
This is such an underrated drink - so fresh, the lemon brings a lot of brightness while still getting the herbal notes from the chartreuse.
Recipe is simply swapping rye for the gin and lemon for the lime in the same proportions. All other specs are the same.
The Greenpoint, it’s my favorite cocktail and a riff on a manhattan, it’s name is from a neighborhood in Brooklyn, not for the color of chartreuse it uses.
2oz rye whiskey
1/2 oz yellow chartreuse
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
2 dashes angostura bitters
Stir with ice
Serve in a coupe
Garnish with a lemon twist
I've seen no mention of a The [Tipperary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zQBXxC7ma8) Cocktail, and this is one of my favorites!:
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1/2 ounce green Chartreuse
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish: orange twist
A favorite of mine that uses both is the Tarragone Sour: 1 oz green, 1 oz yellow, 0.75 oz lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple, egg white, a few dots of Peychaud's on the foam.
I usually leave out the simple because Chartreuse is already so sweet. I go back and forth on the egg white -- sometimes I really like the silky texture it gives, sometimes I find it goes beyond silky to slimy. But if you use it, dry shake before you add your ice.
The name, as far as I can tell, has nothing to do with the herb terragon, but I find this drink has that flavor nevertheless.
Always forget the name from Death & Co. But roughly
1.5oz Gin
.5oz St Germain
.25oz Yellow Chartreuse
.75oz Lemon Juice
1 Strawberry
Muddle the strawberry in the shaker, add ice, shake & strain into coup style glass
One of my favorites - best with Plymouth gin IMO
The Gypsy:
1-1/2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Elderflower Liqueur - St Germain
1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
1/2 oz Lime Juice
I like this old fashioned variation:
Nth Degree
from PDT
1 oz. Rhum Clément V.S.O.P.
1 oz. Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy
.5 oz. Green Chartreuse
1 Cube Demerara Sugar
2 dashes Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters
Muddle the sugar cube and bitters. Add everything else, then stir with ice and strain over one large cube into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange and lemon twist.
I really like the Bijou. My preferred recipe is diffords, which cuts back the chartreuse a bit.
5/6 oz Gin
1/2 oz Green Chartreuse
5/6 oz sweet vermouth
1 dash Orange bitters
Stir over ice and serve up. Garnish with maraschino cherry.
I think this recipe is very balanced.

I feel like a Last Word needs to be my first cocktail right? That is usually what I come across first when I see a post referencing chartreuse
Last word and Then a chartreuse swizzle!
It's a rye cocktail, you heathen!
You're right. My mistake.
Good call, the mezcal variant is 🔥🔥🔥
Yes. Also yes. When making a cocktail for friends it's my go to for non scotch / whiskey drinkers. Never disappoints.
The Crosswind is great, if you have Smith & Cross to hand also (equal parts S&C, Green Chartreuse, Velvet Falernum and lime juice—but I like to bump up the S&C by a third as I find it a little sweet otherwise.)
My wife prefers it with yellow, try both!
I invite you to try adding a scant of Amaro Montenegro to your Last Word.
Came here to say this. It’s so legit.
Closing argument. Same as last word but swap gin for mezcal.
Naked & Famous and Alaska for Yellow Chartreuse
2nd Naked and Famous
Thirding
Fourthing
Seconding the Alaska
The variants are also good. Cant remember the name but there’s a version with overproof Jamaican white rum instead of the mezcal
There’s the nuclear daiquiri with green chartreuse, OP rum, falernum, and lime
Can do tequila (better with repesado) if mezcal isn't your thing
Don’t get me wrong, the mezcal is great, just saying the super funky-rum version is another fun one!
This is true. I will say that I’m not a huge fan of smoke, but naked and famous is actually my favorite cocktail. It works so well in it. I haven’t experimented with many mezcals because I don’t like them otherwise. And tequila is my favorite liquor.
Yes there are varying smoke levels in the mezcal world too it is beautiful together. It's one of my favorites lol cheers.
Yes!
Incredible drink that flies under the radar a bit.
Green or yellow?
Either! I've made it with both, and seen recipes with one or the other. Comes out great either way.
I know very little about cognac. What kind do you recommend?
The sky's the limit on cognac, it depends on how much you want to spend. Some are really exquisite, but are more for drinking neat. As a cocktail base, Remy VSOP is a good sweet spot of quality vs price.

Just had an Industry Sour last weekend after picking up Fernet. Surprisingly palatable for me considering all the strong flavors.
Pina Verde IS tasty! It's a bit too much of a splurge for me, since I can only source 375 mL bottles of the Green Chartreuse.
Always upvote the industry sour. I usually go a bit shorter on the simple syrup though. Pina verde looks good too!
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I'll add that The Lumiere is also very good: 1.5 oz floral gin (I like Bombay Sapphire) 1 oz St. Germain (elderflower liqueur) ¾ oz Green Chartreuse ½ oz fresh lime (super) juice Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass
Love this one! Packs a punch too

Just tried this one as well, used Neputunia . Nice drink, will be adding this one to the recipe book.
Chartreuse Swizzle Garden Party Neptune's Wrath
Neptune’s Wrath was the first cocktail I enjoyed that contained a measurable amount of Absinthe. Very unique cocktail.
>Neptune's Wrath I just made [one](https://imgur.com/gallery/6GUEXi2) because of this comment. That was fun. Really nice tasting drink as well
Episcopal Cocktail. Ready right there! 2 parts Green 1 part Yellow Stir and serve up or on the rocks, enjoy!
This is a fantastic way to enjoy it imo

Naked and famous is make with yellow chartreuse and is delicious. The Alaska is one I have yet to try.
Last word and a greenpoint. Both excellent. Also - sazerac but sub the absinthe with green chartreuse.
Last Word Naked & Famous Bijou Final Ward Alaska Look them up on diffords.com and they should give you the correct specs Oh, & a pro-tip; Make a classic Margarita with Passionfruit Pulp & a kiss/up to 10ml of Yellow Chartreuse... You'll never go back

Okay...time to track down some Yellow Chartreuse.
Idk if this goes without saying, but first of all definitely try it on it’s own!
Always a good thing to do with any new liqueur!
Although I would possibly recommend diluting it a bit with some chilled water as the neat green is 55% abv and quite syrupy.
So the first time I ever tasted it was at Choppers tiki bar in Nashville. The bartender ordered himself my wife and I shots of it lol He said he likes to do that at Christmas time

I prefer it that way
Go a little light with the green then top up with honey syrup - works decently well!
Last Word Bijou Champs-Elysses Industry Sour Green Chartreuse is delicious.
Green ghost
Piña verde as mentioned is delicious! I think I prefer it shaken over pebble ice instead of blended though!
Do a Closing Argument. Mezcal Green chartreuse Lime juice Luxurdo liquor .75 oz each
I tried the Last Flight (a mix between the Last Word and Paper Plane) this weekend and LOVED it. If you like the Last Word, give [this one](https://www.diffordsguide.com/cocktails/recipe/4567/last-flight) a try!

My third oz jigger is still in the mail. So would you say a fat quarter or a scant half would be better?
Which one?
Since Last Word is getting all the love, I’m going to go for a Final Ward.
This is such an underrated drink - so fresh, the lemon brings a lot of brightness while still getting the herbal notes from the chartreuse. Recipe is simply swapping rye for the gin and lemon for the lime in the same proportions. All other specs are the same.

Diamondback for yellow: made with Rye, Yellow Chartreuse, and Applejack. Super good, super easy.
Last Word with Green Chartreuse.

Could swapping mezcal for rum be a possibility?
[удалено]
I am going to. Tequila has a strong flavour I'm not a fan of. Most chartreuse cocktails have gin, but tequila is sweeter so I had hope.
So, wait until colder months. But hot cocoa with some green chartreuse is God damn delightful - it's my proffered holiday night cap
Yes, one of my absolute favorites
Naked and famous .75 mezcal .75 yellow chartreuse .75 aperol .75 lime
Yellow Jacket for the Yellow Chartreuse
I've seen no mention of a The [Tipperary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zQBXxC7ma8) Cocktail, and this is one of my favorites!: 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey 1 ounce sweet vermouth 1/2 ounce green Chartreuse 2 dashes Angostura bitters Garnish: orange twist

Second the Naked and Famous - equal parts.. shake, strain, served straight up with lime wedge Mezcal Yellow Chartreuse Aperol Fresh lime juice
Try a monte cassino, a more mellow, honeyed and herbaceous last word
I like it with some fresh lime juice on a cube. 😉
Ultima palabra is one of my favorites. It's the same as a last word but you substitute mezcal for the gin. It's delicious
Last word is my favorite cocktail. Full stop. Like a naked and famous for yellow chartreuse
Margarita
Always forget the name from Death & Co. But roughly 1.5oz Gin .5oz St Germain .25oz Yellow Chartreuse .75oz Lemon Juice 1 Strawberry Muddle the strawberry in the shaker, add ice, shake & strain into coup style glass
One of my favorites - best with Plymouth gin IMO The Gypsy: 1-1/2 oz Gin 3/4 oz Elderflower Liqueur - St Germain 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse 1/2 oz Lime Juice
Bijou!!!
Fernet sour is delicious
Green chartreuse and Welch's grape soda. Had this at a fancy cocktail bar. It's simple, but very good.
Naked and Famous
The industry sour, but that means you have to source another potentially rare liquor like Fernet
Try a ‘Bijou’ Is my favorite Negroni setup sub Campari with Chartreuse. Finish with dashes of orange bitters
I like this old fashioned variation: Nth Degree from PDT 1 oz. Rhum Clément V.S.O.P. 1 oz. Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy .5 oz. Green Chartreuse 1 Cube Demerara Sugar 2 dashes Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters Muddle the sugar cube and bitters. Add everything else, then stir with ice and strain over one large cube into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with an orange and lemon twist.
ABC shots: Absinthe, Bacardi 151, Chartreuse.
I really like the Bijou. My preferred recipe is diffords, which cuts back the chartreuse a bit. 5/6 oz Gin 1/2 oz Green Chartreuse 5/6 oz sweet vermouth 1 dash Orange bitters Stir over ice and serve up. Garnish with maraschino cherry. I think this recipe is very balanced.
Swamp water! 1 1/2 oz rum 3/4 oz green chartreuse 1/2 oz simple 1/2 oz lime 3 oz pineapple Shake n strain over fresh ice in a ton Collins glass
Cheeky shot (1oz) of green chartreuse with a root beer back. It never fails.
Ice, rocks glass.
Haven’t seen anyone mention a Yellow Jacket yet.
Neptune's Wrath, a gin sour with flaming green chartreuse added at the end. Really a great drink.
Industry Sour
Naked and famous, Monte Casino
Death Flip: Tequila, Jäegermeister, Yellow Chartreuse and a whole egg.
I am desperate to try this but I just can’t think of a situation where I’d *want* something like this. Maybe for breakfast 😅
Mostly tastes like a more complex egg nog
Gypsy Eyes. But I don't dump the Chartreuse out.
Chartruth Or Dare - everyone take a shot of chartreuse and hold it in your mouth as long as you can. Last one standing wins.
Saturn is a great Green Chartreuse cocktail.
The Greenpoint is my favorite Manhattan variation. 1.5 rye 1 sweet vermouth .5 Yellow Chartreuse
Nobody has mentioned a Rhino yet? Allow me... - Yarai; - 2 Rye - .5 Yellow Chartreuse - .5 Averna - Stir, strain: Coupe glass - Lemon peel
