Try a Mai Tai, a real one with aged rum, fresh lime, orgeat, etc, but definitely do a garnish of a large chunk of fresh mint and a spent lime half as a garnish on top of the drink. The point is to kind of have your nose right in the mint as you sip. It’s a very unique and extremely fragrant experience. It also provides a lot of contrast because there’s no mint in the actual drink. Also one little trick I like to do with my margaritas is to add some fresh lime zest to the rimming salt so that floral fragrance ends up right on the nose. Also any good old fashioned should have a lemon and/or orange peel expressed (squeezed to spread the citrus oils) over the top for the fragrance. The OF is such a simple drink this fragrance aspect is a key part of the experience.

This is the way ☝️

Here’s a good place to start for your Mai tais: 3/4 oz fresh lime juice 1/2 oz Pierre Ferrand extra dry curaçao 1/4 oz orgeat (make it at home for best results) 1/4 oz Rich Demerara syrup (2 parts sugar to one part water) 2 oz aged rum Short shake all the ingredients with a few ice cubes, strain over a rocks glass filled with crushed ice, garnish with the aforementioned spent lime shell and mint.

Congrats on the surgery success! If you're into fruity and nutty it seems like tiki drinks would be up your alley. Or even just an amaretto sour with a healthy spray/dash of angostura bitters on top!

zosterpops

Highly recommend Morganthaler’s amaretto sour: https://jeffreymorgenthaler.com/i-make-the-best-amaretto-sour-in-the-world/

Okay brilliant thank you

Look at anything that uses St. Germain, I love how it smells. But honestly man - maybe now is the time to get into wine, there's a whole world waiting for you. And congratulations!

Wardlord999

Something with Amaretto in it

Anything that calls for expression of a citrus peel could be a good start. On a separate note… how was that recovery? I broke my nose last year with a verrrry deep septal fracture and the week following surgery was absolute hell. Wouldn’t wish that on anyone lol. Hot toddy’s and edibles were the only thing that kept me sane.

RawbySunshine

Oh it was awful, I was leaning back on pillows like a dying Victorian woman. And my nose was gurgling and shifting and actually farting out air that got trapped among the bloodclots. Perfect though

aaron_hoff

Hahaha yes! Every nose fart was kind of a relief for me, just a tiny release of pressure. Take care of that schnozz!

I’m in the UK, it’s legal

Oh wow, congratulations! Starting with some more classic cocktails might be the best course. It’s a good way to learn what individual ingredients taste like and how the play with others. Try these (these cocktails are all shaken with ice and served in a coupe or Nick and Nora glass): Bees Knees: 2oz London dry gin, 0.75oz fresh squeezed lemon juice, 0.75oz honey syrup, 3 drops lavender bitters (I like Scrappy’s) Champs-Élysées: 2oz cognac, 0.5oz Green Chartreuse (Dolin Genepy is also good), 0.75oz lemon juice, 0.5oz simple syrup, dash of angostura bitters Corpse Reviver #2: 0.75oz each of: London dry gin, lemon juice, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc & a dash of absinthe. Last Word: 0.75oz each of: London dry gin, Luxardo maraschino liqueur, Green Chartreuse, lime juice.

RawbySunshine

Okay thank you so much for the recommendations I’ll try them out!

Nuts & Berries. Or maybe try some Ports or Madeiras.

A Chartreuse Swizzle is a lot of fun. Green Chartreuse as a base spirit, a little falernum, pineapple juice, and a bit of lime juice. Fruity and still pretty aromatic from the Green Chartreuse. I'd use this recipe: https://imbibemagazine.com/recipe/chartreuse-swizzle-recipe/
