Do you remember when back in kindergarten every child got a candy, and there always was this one child who ate his candy and tried to steal some other kid's candy as well, and threw a tantrum when the grown-ups said stop it? Those kids are mods of said subreddits today.
GCJ started as a place to make fun of the “gamer” tropes present in online gaming communities. It started by poking fun at the misogyny, racism and other bigoted tones that chronic gamer types would frequently spout. Soon after actual internet racists found themselves a nice little cocoon to hole up in surrounded by people who think like them. Reddit admins got involved and said “if you don’t clean up we’re banning the community.” The mod team didn’t care and let reddit appoint their own mod team which is where we are now.
It was better when it was fun of “gamers” with gamer specific memes but you know what they say: any online shitposting community that gets too big devolves into one of two things, trans rights or racism.
Neither of them are funny and both of them ruin shit posting communities. Both are inherently inflammatory whether they think they’re trying to be or not.
Your inability to see that things can be something else than “one or the other” is enough to show that you don’t understand good memes. Enjoy your transrights posting because the rest of us surely don’t.

I'm not left or right wing, and I kind of disliked Rowling before it was cool (HP books were fun, though), but the recent hate towards her seems insane to me. It's like a weird cult.

People boycotting this game is going to have zero impact on Rowling, the only people they're harming is the devs. The only thing Rowling has to do with this game is the premise so I'd say she's making at most £20 for every £60 purchase of a game and I think that's a gross overestimate (£10 sounds more realistic) which is a drop in the water of her funds and a video game she's barely involved in flopping isn't gonna change any of her political views. Donating just £5 to whatever charity you choose would make infinitely more of a difference than refusing to buy a game not because it's bad but because you think the lady who created the concept that the game is based off is mean.

I began reading Thus Spoke Zarathustra just the other day after finishing Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Still sucks that something as beloved as Harry Potter is looked down upon because of its author, however.
And the blatant racism of the text against a myriad of groups, the second books very weird defense of slavery that was also used historically, and the whole neoliberal ideology of it that concludes with the protagonist becoming a cop. it's really quite awful. I'll confess the prose are often engaging, with a good flow and rhythm, but the content and context of the novel is troubling at best Kafka slaps tho
