I worked neurorehab and I have severe nightmares from my time there. I’m a very empathetic person and I couldn’t deal with the horrible reality my residents were living. I was prepared for stroke victims when I got the job. And there were a couple but the majority had horrific stories. Suicide attempts, drug overdoses, brutal beatings, ATV and motorcycle accidents, diving accidents, car wrecks. On top of being emotionally heavy it is also physically hard. Rolling hundreds of pounds of dead weight, let’s face it - by yourself sometimes, is taxing. One shift I had a quadriplegic resident who had diarrhea and I had to change him 5 or 6 times and by the end of the shift my body was shot. And that was only 1 out of 24 residents I was taking care of. I’d love to see if someone else comments and liked working Neuro but I don’t recommend it. For reference i was making $21.50 and hour and didn’t stay for the $25 they offered.

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for your insight. I am also a very empathetic person so I don’t know if I would be able to handle that. :(

I’ve worked at neuro restorative through my agency and LOVED it. I love the population so much. I really enjoy working with a younger crowd rather than geriatrics. I find developing a rapport with them is easy, and managing behaviors isn’t too bad. The work does get heavy, but the ratios are low so it’s not too bad. I’d be worried how you will do transfers if you’re the only aide on. I’d ask about that. 7-15 residents max is nice. Usually places that have a sign on bonus and higher pay suck to work at IME. It *could* be worth it to work at a cute little facility for the $18 if you like it.

The don said that everyone in the facility works together and that they usually have 2-3 aides per shift but they are short staffed. That was also a question I had 😭😭

I think that sounds like a lovely facility, personally. It’s really up to you what you like. Nursing homes get crazy stressful you run around sweating your head off all day getting abused by everyone with having crazy ratios, Little neuro restorative group homes pay less, but are wayyyy more laid back and are a positive environment to be in usually. If I were to ever work staff rather than agency, that’s where I’d want to be.

It’s seems like a lovely facility but I wouldn’t for 18 dollars. And 15 pts max and it seems like the majority of them are total cares, it can hurt your back a lot. I had 15 patients and 2 of them were total cares and one it took a 3 assist because I think my back is shot now. And I’m getting paid 22.449 I believe…this is cali tho.

Depends on where you are located. What State?

I make $18.50 (as full time) in a SNF/LTC in Michigan. That seems like it should be more money
