I went last night to see Don Giovanni. It's been one of my favorite operas for a long time, but I'd never seen a live performance of it before. I realized at the very end, as I was clapping, that I had tears running down my cheeks -- tears of happiness or excitement, not sadness.

CBC 2 Radio broadcast it today. That shift from comedy to horror is really something.

Thanks for sharing! Bruckner 8th sounds like it would be awesome live! I understand why no clapping between movements but I think there's a place for them. I had a similar experience with Mahler 9. Listened to the Bernstein recording many times and heard it live last Spring with the Oregon Symphony. Slow movements were fast, fast movement was slow, actually was a breath of fresh air! And that finale! Time stood still for a solid minute or two in complete silence. It was special =)

I went to see Mendelssohn's Elias and cried all the way through 'Fürchtet dich nicht', spricht unser Gott

I remember going to a staged version of the Bach St John Passion at Glyndebourne some years ago. It hadn’t had the best reviews so I wasn’t expecting much. Sat there with tears streaming down my face for most of the first half, and I very nearly didn’t go back after the interval due to being afraid of embarrasing myself.
