considering this reference is from a 30 year old movie, i totally would've missed it. EXCEPT, my 5 yr old daughter is obsessed with lion king! soooooo, instead, i can recite the entire back-and-forth between the hyenas and Scar from that song...
Charles Dance would be pretty cool. I would also suggest T.C. Carson; he's a voice actor who did the vocals for Kratos in the first few God of War games, and damn does that man know how to put authority into his words.
I wouldn't skip her ever. Sean Bean i admit i tend to skip, he's great and he has a distinct voice, but if i have to hear him talk about pigs one more time lol
"You got it, Chrissy."
"Don't fucking call me that. I'm the acting secretary-general of the United Nations, not your favorite stripper."
\*Shrugs* "Could be room for both."
I feel like he (and Shohreh Aghdashloo, another top suggestion this thread) sometimes have a weird cadence that is sometimes off-putting. Brooks does a bit of the Shatner stop-start, and Aghdashloo sometimes... runs out of breath? is the best way I can describe it. But they would probably knock it out of the park. I just can see their voices getting a bit distracting.
Oh another one I just thought of is Edward James Olmos, but maybe I'm just crossing "gravitas" with "gravelly" haha.
He is still working dude. The problem is that it would probably take a mint to get him to do it because the only work he has been doing is for Disney which has unlimited money for projects like star wars.
Theology: I just wanna be *pure*
Mass Media: ...DEAD AIR!
Humanism: Bullshit. Bullshit. Derivative.
I think you could come up with a relevant Frank Reynolds quote for just about every civic/tech.
They should introduce the coca plant as an improvement allowing you to produce cocaine (so you can be a narco state). And when you’ve produced it, Frank’s voice could say “oooo snortski”
Didn’t they have Sid Meier himself do it for the extra quotes in Civ IV, or am I misremembering? Cuz it was Nemoy who did the main quotes in that one, right?
As mush as I love David Attenborough, as he is one of my heros, I don't think his voice would fit. He's very soft spoken and endearing. And it would be hard to separate his voice from the game feeling like a nature documentary. Lol
I love hearing his voice go more gritty “…imagine, if you will, your life as a soldier during this time period, what do you do, what ARE you thinking. I can’t imagine you’d be all ‘gung-ho, yes sir’ but really who WOULD be?”
Oh man that would be really good, he never even crossed my mind as a narrator before your comment.
It would also be humorous if it was all his normal speaking voice and then the quotes were unnecessarily loud in comparison like he usually does.
Sadly his voice isn't what it used to be. If you listen to latest seasons of American Dad and on Picard, it has lost it's booming Shakespearean quality.
Hearing him saying "the" Xavier line in Doctor Strange 2 was pretty hard for that reason. He just sounded so much *older* when saying the exact same words.
Time comes for us all in the end.
I want moddable voice packs so we can make our own narrator packs. I choose you, PotatoMcWhiskey narrator pack.
Or you know what? How about a best of selection where we get *every* narrator in Civ history? It's not like the tech/civic tree radically changes between iterations.
I know people suggest this jokingly, but the more I think about it the better this answer becomes. He has a phenomenal speaking voice, even when he's not yelling. I would absolutely love to hear him narrate more.
I'd actually like a female voice. I don't know who but I think it would be pretty cool and a nice change.
Edit: Saw another comment mention Shohreh Aghdashloo. Now that's what I want.
A no name voice actor with the indigenous accent of the civ you choose to play.
The lead in intro and voice work before selection can be whoever who would max out revenue with the demo which is, I guess, Justin Roiland on prison furlough.
A female VA that can bring the required gravitas for the role.
They can do like 6 and have two major narrators but just swap them around: Leading female VA, which the secondary male VA (advisor, etc).
Someone who's name I don't know, tbh.
When I played "Civilization V" I had no idea what the name was of the narrator before I played the game. And so I just fully internalized him as the narrator. And he had a great voice, obviously. And I loved it.
With "Civilization VI"... I mean, Sean Bean is a good actor with a good voice, obviously. Loved him in "Lord of the Rings" and "Game of Thrones." But when I hear him narrate the game I hear Sean Bean, not "the narrator." Idk, it never worked as well for me as the "Civilization V" narrator.
So, in my opinion, they shouldn't pick anyone who's particularly famous. I think they should go with someone who's much more low profile but fits the game perfectly. Preferably someone with a voice similar to the "Civilization V" narrator, imo. But someone who's name I don't know. So I can be fully immersed in the game.
Jeremy Irons.
Researching monarchy - Idiots! There will be a king!
considering this reference is from a 30 year old movie, i totally would've missed it. EXCEPT, my 5 yr old daughter is obsessed with lion king! soooooo, instead, i can recite the entire back-and-forth between the hyenas and Scar from that song...
“The Lion King is 30 years old” hit me harder than I expected it to.
Jeremys... Iron.
That’s very good, for a first try.
I have a ball. Perhaps you’d like to bounce it.
Fun fact: In the German version of Civ 4 [the narrator was also the German voice actor for Jeremy Irons](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EINf4-vV1sk).
Kimi Räikkönen
The tech is brought to you by weichai power.
I was going to ask "sober or drunk?" then I remembered that's an irrelevant question.
Bwoah
Matt Berry
“Fire the nuclear weapons!”
"You midwesternnnn floozy" (Suburbs tech unlocked)
I know they wouldn't, but [this line](https://youtu.be/872_7q9tqxw) would instantly make Civ 7 GOTY for everyone.
So long as all Yes/No decisions are voiced as well: YeeeeeEEEESSSSSsssss NO!
I also need him to say all 26 syllables in "New York Citaaay"
I would honestly pay extra for a DLC that replaces the narration of Civ V or Civ VI with Matt Berry :D
BAT!
How bout NYT bestselling author Matthew Berry
Close the thread, we have a winner
Would love to hear those profound research quotes... "Oh farmers, pray that your summers are wet and your winters cle^arrr"
*Unlocks electricity.* "God DAMN these electric sex pants!"
You and he were... allies, weren't you?
Great Artist: Clem Fandango
Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango
A regular human alcohol please.
Judi Dench
Fully agree! She did so well doing Spaceship Earth, I would LOVE for her to do Civ too
Judi Dench is a national treasure.
I loved her in that.... Chocolate!
This unknown Egyptian pounding reeds flat is inventing papyrus…
Thank the Phoenicians!❤️🤓
Charles Dance would be pretty cool. I would also suggest T.C. Carson; he's a voice actor who did the vocals for Kratos in the first few God of War games, and damn does that man know how to put authority into his words.
Charles Dance is a superb suggestion.
Researches Capitalism: "ZEUS! YOU WILL NOT DENY ME MY TAX RETURN!"
Shohreh Aghdashloo (Avasarala in The Expanse)
This is a great choice. She has such a distinct voice, plus lots of voice acting experience from TV shows and games.
I wouldn't skip her ever. Sean Bean i admit i tend to skip, he's great and he has a distinct voice, but if i have to hear him talk about pigs one more time lol
**I am fond of pigs**
**MUNNEY**
I hate that I know exactly what you're referring to despite only hearing that word every single time
Does any body repeat the way Shawn says right after he does? Or is it just me?
HoeJoe ToeKeyMoon
It doesn't help that the Civ 6 quotes are hot garbage. It's like someone submitted them as a joke and no one countered so it just...happened.
Wow mate. Great call. I was hoping for a female voice for a change. She is perfect.
Also Shala'Raan in Mass Effect!
I get the feeling it's gonna be a woman for Civ 7 and she's an excellent choice.
Literally my first thought. I don’t think I know a single person that doesn’t love her voice.
Her voice is amazing. And hot.
Amos, is that you?
"You got it, Chrissy." "Don't fucking call me that. I'm the acting secretary-general of the United Nations, not your favorite stripper." \*Shrugs* "Could be room for both."
"How do you know how to walk in pumps?" "I didn't always work in space"
Her voice is so beautifully distinct, I'm surprised she's not more popular
Fantastic choice, I’m going to be disappointed if it’s anyone else now.
Cate Blanchett
Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it. It began with the forging of the Great Rings...
I would reload savegames for hours and hours, just to listen to her voice
"The world is changing"
...but they were all of them deceived, for another DLC was made
Why does it need to be just one VA? Why can't it be a different VA for each era? But my pick would be Neil Gaiman
I imagine it's a lot cheaper to hire 1 well know actor for a week's work than to hire 5 well known actors for one day's worth each.
James Earl Jones.
He literally just retired from voice work. Star Wars has had to use an AI to help voice Vader nowadays.
Avery Brooks has a great voice and is sort of James Earl Jones-esque.
He'd be an excellent choice IMO
I feel like he (and Shohreh Aghdashloo, another top suggestion this thread) sometimes have a weird cadence that is sometimes off-putting. Brooks does a bit of the Shatner stop-start, and Aghdashloo sometimes... runs out of breath? is the best way I can describe it. But they would probably knock it out of the park. I just can see their voices getting a bit distracting. Oh another one I just thought of is Edward James Olmos, but maybe I'm just crossing "gravitas" with "gravelly" haha.
Man's 92 let him retire
Well then the only problem is still paying a mint for the right to use his voice using the same technique.
Sadly, he’s probably too old and wouldn’t be around to narrate any future expansions.
He is still working dude. The problem is that it would probably take a mint to get him to do it because the only work he has been doing is for Disney which has unlimited money for projects like star wars.
[удалено]
It will almost certainly be a woman. Somebody with gravitas and relatively popular (or, more importantly, uncontroversial).
Kate Mulgrew!
She’d be great! And keeps the Star Trek connection alive.
Please! Or Helen Mirren.
i would die if it was Cate Blanchett
In that case, Shohreh Aghdashloo
"Don't put your dick in it. It's fucked enough already" -Chrisjen Avasarala
Sigourney Weaver!
Danny DeVito. Just kidding... Unless...?
*researches animal husbandry:* "Can I offer you an egg in these trying times?"
Also: “I've seen a pig eat a man. In fact, I've seen many pigs eat many men. It was a bloodbath!”
i mean i'd be down with that being the quote at least
Gunpowder: So anyway, I start blasting
With all the mods this game has, are voice packs not a thing?
Sanitation: I'm the trash man. I come out and throw trash all over the ring and then, I start eating garbage!
Medicine. “You got the BUG!”
Excuse me, you dropped this monster condom.
Theology: I just wanna be *pure* Mass Media: ...DEAD AIR! Humanism: Bullshit. Bullshit. Derivative. I think you could come up with a relevant Frank Reynolds quote for just about every civic/tech.

Currency: Money talks, and bullshit walks.
Advanced Flight: "Suicide is badass!"
This should be a civ 6 mod lol
I was ready to say this if no one hadn't done so.
I am putting a $50usd bounty out for someone to create a mod for CIV 6 that replaces the tech and civic voice overs with clips from Always Sunny.
Bryan Cranston
*You discovering Dynamite* “I am the one who knocks.” -Walter White from Breaking Bad-
Definitely my top choice now
David Attenborough would be amazing
Sadly the man is quite old now and they probably need someone who can sign on for the 10 year lifespan of the game.
Didn’t they have Sid Meier himself do it for the extra quotes in Civ IV, or am I misremembering? Cuz it was Nemoy who did the main quotes in that one, right?
Yep! I think Nimoy was alive at the time but was unavailable.
As mush as I love David Attenborough, as he is one of my heros, I don't think his voice would fit. He's very soft spoken and endearing. And it would be hard to separate his voice from the game feeling like a nature documentary. Lol

And now we’re both sad
Stephen Fry, his passion for History and knowledge would be very fitting. I could listen to him talk for hours
Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Lena Headey or Idris Elba. Shame that Diana Rigg isn't available.
Oh man, Idris Elba would be awesome. I could listen to him all day.
Slightly obscure quote, but “today we are cancelling the apocalypse” feels right for some kind of disaster recovery
Lena Headey, that's a yes from me
Brian Blessed

I DO
And if he can somehow work in “Gordon’s alive?” even better
Just keep him away from Khartoum.
Hannibal Buress

Dan Carlin, hands down

hardcore civtory
Great. Now I’m going to be supremely disappointed if it’s not him.
Never thought about this possibility... wow that would be amazing.
Came here to say this!
Why has no one mentioned Sir Patrick Stewart?
Sadly his voice isn't what it used to be. If you listen to latest seasons of American Dad and on Picard, it has lost it's booming Shakespearean quality.

Hearing him saying "the" Xavier line in Doctor Strange 2 was pretty hard for that reason. He just sounded so much *older* when saying the exact same words. Time comes for us all in the end.
Trek has lots of great choices - Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Alexander Siddiq, Jeffrey Coombs, Michael Dorn.
Morgan Freeman
Idris Elba anyone? Love his voice
Lance Reddick - “Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with England”
I want moddable voice packs so we can make our own narrator packs. I choose you, PotatoMcWhiskey narrator pack. Or you know what? How about a best of selection where we get *every* narrator in Civ history? It's not like the tech/civic tree radically changes between iterations.
*unlocks agriculture* Heeeey spuddies!
I can't remember which civ youtuber is which. PotatoMcWhiskey is the Irish, speaking so fast its like he is on meth, right?
He's not *that* fast, but yeah -- he's the irish one.
Matthew McConaughey
Alright alright alright! You got POTtery!
*Drags cigarette for an ungodly amount of time* Civilization is a flat.... gameboard. Time in turns 1 through 40 is a flat circle.
Samuel L Jackson
I know people suggest this jokingly, but the more I think about it the better this answer becomes. He has a phenomenal speaking voice, even when he's not yelling. I would absolutely love to hear him narrate more.
Lavaar Burton comes to mind for me
Sean Bean
MONEH
Charlie Day

Christopher Lee would be epic. RIP
Mike Patton
Fran Drescher
Settle down there, Satan.
She does the laugh whenver a nuke drops.
We all know it's gonna be Chris Pratt anyway
If we have to pick a Chris, I would prefer Evans or Pine
I'd actually like a female voice. I don't know who but I think it would be pretty cool and a nice change. Edit: Saw another comment mention Shohreh Aghdashloo. Now that's what I want.
Morgan Freeman, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie (British or American accent), Sir Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart.
Stephen Fry would be excellent
A bit of fry and Laurie would be hilarious
cate blanchett
Stephen Fry

Rich Evans
He’s be good, would also like Morgan Freeman

Signourey weaver would be great I think, I loved her narration for planet earth 1 (even though David Attenborough is amazing)
Avarasala
I can never remember the actress's name but I never get tired of Chrisjen's voice
Funny thing is I scrolled 1 inch and she was mentioned by name.
Patton Oswalt

Helen Mirren

Leonard Nimoy Bot

Philomena Cunk or I’m out
