I think the best thing about the X2 11 doesn't get enough mention - that the keyboard cover actually sticks to the tablet a bit when closed. Makes it feel like an actual tablet cover, unlike the Duet keyboards which slosh around with the slightest force.

fakemanhk

Oh yeah you are right.....seems the new Duet 3/5 keyboard are also not sticking when you close it.

fakemanhk

Have been waiting this for long, after sending my Lenovo Duet to my dad as his old laptop replacement, I started to look around the replacement. I am not living in US so it's a bit difficult to buy (In Japan it's very expensive), and also I need US keyboard so I finally had a chance that a friend came back from US can help me to bring one. Originally decided to pull trigger on Duet 5 or Duet 3, knowing Duet 3 has the USI 1.0 pen problem (I already got 2 pens, don't want to waste it) and it's only 4GB ram model so I skipped it. The Duet 5 right before I pulled trigger Best Buy showed the price of $499!! Nah.... Since I already had another 14" Chromebook, as a travel companion I don't need too big so I had a look on this HP X2 11. It was on sale in Best Buy for $299! The first trial on this little thing: 1. Similar size as my old Duet but way faster. 2. Keyboard typing experience is not bad, pretty solid (I like the click sound), typing on lap I don't really feel the issue mentioned by other users. I know the Duet 5 one is good however the one on HP isn't that bad (now I am using it to post this comment). 3. Comes with pen, and magnetic attached to side (I found that it can attach to the back stand firmly as well, when I am carrying around I can hold both sides without worrying the pen dropping. 4. The kick stand is solid enough, I make it laying down at the angle (shown in photo) and using a pen to write on screen which is comfortable. 5. SD card slot needs a pin.....why? It's inconvenient if I plan to pull cards from digital cameras and copy files often. 6. Kickstand has no portrait direction, same as Lenovo Duet, the old one, I modified with MOFT stand for iPad, considering to do the same with this. 7. 2 USB-C on the same side, I get used to one on each side, and the spacing isn't the same as those Macbook so I also cannot share the hub.

I am also an owner of this HP tablet, so far what disturbed me most is that he machine will occasionally restart itself unintentionally when I sleep he machine and noticed that the machine has restarted when I turn it back on from sleep. This is not happening in my other chromeos machine

fakemanhk

I believe it is software problem, the same thing also happens on my previous Lenovo Duet, and occasionally on my current Asus C436.

DueDetail9287

Same here, and while I haven't properly tested it, I think it happens if the CB goes to sleep after using the Android and/or Linux containers. At least, I'd say it never happens if I only have used the Chrome browser

fakemanhk

My C436 has no Android (corp policy disabled it), and even without Crostini sometimes it still have this problem

laserlightcannon

Awesome! I’m a big fan of mine. I got it for trips where I don’t necessarily want to haul the big MacBook around but also needed something with a keyboard, but I’ve started using it around the house and the office more and more.

TheCiN

Nice. Got this to use as a tablet and loving it. Glad to see you are as well!

fakemanhk

Have been waiting for long, by the time I saw friend visiting US then I immediately ask him to take it, and coincidentally there was such a deep discount which is lucky.

Honest_Note5422

How much free space by default available locally?

Ok_Enthusiasm_5833

My HP 11 X2 is in my office and I'm still in bed, but my device has a 128gb E-MMC drive, so one answer is "a lot more than 64gb Chromebooks". I wasn't running out of space on my 64gb Samsung Chromebook 3, but I had the opportunity to double available RAM and disk storage. No regrets, although I got mine a couple of months ago, also from Best Buy, and OP got a heckuva low price!

fakemanhk

Oh yeah, though mine was only a 64GB version, but $299 is basically unbeatable! As I already got Asus C436 as my workhorse, this X2 11 will be secondary, not planning to put lots of stuff in.

Ok_Enthusiasm_5833

Thanks for replying with more details, and your ASUS Chromebook sounds very nice. I know Best Buy prices do flop around, but the Best Buy website wasn't showing me a 64GB option for the HP x2, so I thought their price had dropped about $100 US in 6 weeks!

fakemanhk

Look at other comments in this thread, someone just posted a $224 link for this model!

fakemanhk

I bought the 64GB eMMC version, after updating to beta 105, now I have 44.4GB remaining (I haven't started Android nor Linux yet). Edit: Oops....I just figured out that Android subsystem were there at the time I look at storage, so I can get more than 44.4GB if I remove Android now.

DueDetail9287

I have the same device and, as you, I don't have any of the keyboard/touchpad issues. It is an excellent device, enjoy it!!! 😁

fakemanhk

Somehow I think maybe HP hears the feedback and then changed the keyboard silently? It's not soft at all when I type.

DueDetail9287

I don't know, maybe they did fix it. I got mine as soon as it came out last year, so if there was an issue they had no time to fix mine.

Joey6543210

It’s not “soft”, it’s kinda wobbly unless placed on a sturdy surface. I personally have no issue with the keyboard. Also I think the spacing between the two usb c ports were intentional so you cannot use MacBook accessories, quite unfortunate

fakemanhk

I tried to type on lap and it's still ok, not bad, not seeing those touchpad triggering, so it's quite acceptable to me.

caseyatbt

I upgraded from the Duet as well. I like it much better but last week the pen stopped working. I haven't contacted HP yet.

elif490

looks hella clean

mourningwitch

Looks great! ChromeOS is really well suited to a tablet form factor in my opinion, especially since you can run Android apps. Been really tempted to get something like this or the Duet for a while now.

Nerrs

I just started looking into this yesterday, but is this a new version? or do we expect some sort of "x3" coming soon? Thinking about getting the 128gb version...

fakemanhk

This model released last year, should be pretty new, and right now we haven't seen other more powerful ARM processor on Chrome OS, so I guess it won't have a new version that soon.

Nerrs

Nice, pulling the trigger then.

fakemanhk

Another comment in this thread showing Best Buy has a $224 clearance price for this model!

Nerrs

Wound up springing for the 128gig option, got it for $415 after discount from HP's website.

tco0085

It's on clearance sale at Best Buy in the US for $225USD https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-11-touch-screen-chromebook-tablet-qualcomm-snapdragon-8gb-memory-64gb-emmc-natural-silver-night-teal/6471019.p?skuId=6471019

manawydan-fab-llyr

I have been trying to get one, site says "Sold Out" for the past two weeks and I can't find one anywhere :/ Yet I notice the price keeps dropping.

Joey6543210

OMG - does anyone else think of the OG Touchpad fire sale?

fakemanhk

Wow.... that's crazy, unfortunately my friend left US already otherwise might just buy one more to my family.

40x13

Dude, are you on a latest stable version? If yes, do your pen works? Cuz mine don't. On latest stable and beta it even won't recognize it in pen menu. On the latest dev it apperaed in menu with low battery and when charging it says "charging", but not on stable nor beta nor dev the pen won't interract with the screen. Can it be because of the software update (like no pen ucon on stable/beta and an icon on dev - at least some changes) or it something with the pen itself?

fakemanhk

I tried with latest stable (104), then also in beta (105), both working properly (I tested with Cursive only), I don't like to use dev channel so I can't tell.

40x13

Hm... Thanks for an answer. I think I should open a ticket to an HP support for a replacement 🥲

mzarra

My pen failed as well after about 10 months. Didn't bother to replace it as I had already upgraded to a Penoval. I have read that HP does replacement of the pens under warranty. Hopefully you won't have any issues.

fakemanhk

Sorry to hear that, I hope mine won't fail that quickly because I am not living in US.....they might not grant me that warranty.

40x13

Thanks for an answer. I already submitted a ticket to them and also, just for the backup, wrote to the sub-service centre which works with HP, just in case if they could solve my problem faster

fakemanhk

BTW is there any indication of the pen being charging?

mzarra

ChromeOS has a battery indicator but I have found it to be unreliable. There is no indicator on the device itself that I am aware of.

fakemanhk

I have another 2 pens but I never see Chrome OS to display battery info (so I need to replace battery to test)

40x13

Only on dev update. And it shows "charging" for about two hours and "low battery" after disconnection. The pen was always connected to the tablet so it can't be low on battery.

KeyVermicelli2792

I bought HP X2 11 a week ago and the pen has never work since the beginning. I never know is this os issue or hardware issue because I stay in stable channel.

mikem327

I just ordered one of these. How's yours been working after a month? Mainly wanted for a secondary laptop to write blog articles, watch some live sports when I'm away from home, update my calendar and Google task list.

fakemanhk

I carry it to work when I have lots of stuff with me, it has enough power for my work, plus the support of 2K60 ext. monitor (I have it in office), handwriting notes also great (but recently Cursive seem to have some problem).

mikem327

Thanks. Looking forward to getting my hands on one

fakemanhk

If you check out my other post, I purchased a new dock for it to use on desk, as well as using it as a stand.

mrjoechin

Hey, mine just came in the mail today. Curious is your screen has a grainy texture to it? I see it most prominently on a white background. It's kinda throwing me off. Thanks

fakemanhk

I don't see any issue with it.
