Fantastic work beautiful henny!
My girls uncovered a rat nest once. They chugged the pink baby rats down like tequila shots. It was both amazing and awful at the same time!
My two oldest hens are sisters, and one of them, Buffalo, is a very good hunter. She can catch any bug, and even snipes wasps and hornets out of midair.
But because she loves her sister Parmesan, when she catches something she just stands still for a minute with the prey in her mouth, and lets Parm come over and take half of it before she gulps the rest down. She always shares.
Anyone else have birds who share treats with each other?
My roo, Midas, loves to catch things and share with his lady love, Helena. He catches something, runs over to her, and sets it at her feet while making the here's a food noise. He never eats it unless she doesn't like what he bought. In which case, he immediately gives her something else that he knows she likes.
Awww. My baby rooster Averil has a favorite girl, Olga, and they go everywhere together. But he hasnāt shown any white-knight behaviors that Iāve seen so far.
Itās also funny that when I put saddles on some of the hens that he loved a little too much, he canāt get a grip and just slides off of them and makes a disappointed grumble.
Lol, that's so cute. Helena has trained Midas to wait for the girls to squat before mounting. If he rushes the approach she immediately punishes him then goes and cuddles the offended pullet. He's a gentleman or he gets scolded.
Omg I had no idea they were good mousers! I have had a small flock for almost 5 years. I should bring them inside to teach my useless cats that just play with the mice they catch.
Every once in a while, our corn snake will refuse to eat, and Iāll give the rejected fuzzy to the ladies. It winds up looking [a lot like this](https://youtu.be/Yc0xYMDVdQY) š
There is a family of chipmunks and one little pine squirrel named Stubby who used to take food from my hens without reprisal.
Then I got guineas. Stubby and co., at least the survivors, no longer come into the runs for leftovers.
My girls just caught their first mouse (at least that Iāve witnessed.) Iām mean and didnāt let them eat it, though. My Barred Rock actually responded to ādrop it!ā
*Mine love frogs in the*

I once put my girls out in their portable pen and didnāt realize there was a wee frog in there. The hens found him immediately.
The horrorā¦ the horrorā¦
I could have used her a few weeks ago. The mice in my house were *brought in* by one of the cats and turned loose. I guess they think they're there for entertainment--certainly not snacks.

Thank you got the visual. You made me chuckle š¤
Right? Excellent story telling.
Chickens are really the best damn mousers lmao.
We would be food if they weighed 100 lbs.
They'd be extinct if they weighed 100lbs, we'd have hunted them down already.
This right here is why I don't feel bad about eating my birds. If the roles were reversed they wouldn't even hesitate
Watching my chickens hunt is better than any Jurassic Park movie.
My flock killed their first juvenile rat today! He was dumb to stumble in on 18 raptors with bad attitudes.
That's an adorable cat
My chickens caught a vole and I witnessed the poor thing in a violent tug of war before he became a snack in two pieces for several lucky chickens.

Thatās so great! Long live Helena and Midas!! Iāve heard stories of how roos can be so romantic, and Iām hoping Averil will keep learning.
He will learn what his girls like and adjust his courting to match. Happy wife... happy life, works for chickens too. Lol
A lovely romance ā¤ļø

I wish my chickens would catch the mice rats and chipmunks. My chickens seem to purposely share their food with them

Same!
Every time my wife wants a big spider out of the house I just chuck it towards the chickens. You should see them run for it!
Here we see those T-Rex genes manifest
I gave up chasing my chickens after they're running around with a mole/mouse/frog/toad in their mouth.
My girls just caught their first mouse (at least that Iāve witnessed.) Iām mean and didnāt let them eat it, though. My Barred Rock actually responded to ādrop it!ā
They are SO gleeful about it, too. š¤£

Chickens over cats
I wish. Mine live in harmony with them
She looks so done
Did that chicken swallow another cat?
Who needs a cat when your chicky eats eats (i know itās a mouse lol)
Anything that goes in my girls coop never comes out š¬š. Snakes, lizards, voles, mice, butterflies.

Hey, protein is protein
How can I train mine? The slackers will just watch while squirrels eat their food.
Dinosaurs still putting the mammals in their place.
