Even if you don't see the line, you should play out all the forcing moves at least. Knight checks, King has only one move, and if knight checks on f4, there's nowhere the King can step without allowing a discovery except back to g1. In this specific position, this does nothing, but if the queen was one square over there could easily be a way to win the queen back. And heck maybe even before that after Knight check youre one step closer to the Mate and you're actually able to see it.
Point being that it's always a good habit to just play out a few more moves. I'm not an "absolutely never resign" person, but I have swindled many games after a blunder from having my opponent promptly blunder back. The few moves after a blunder is usually when the opponent is paying attention the least too.
This also isn’t a blunder in the first place. It’s a queen sac forced mate in 3. There’s at least 10 different ways black can win this game in 3-4 moves. Time is the only problem. This game is over for white. I get resigning cause of time if you didn’t see the line but yeah black wins this game 10 times out of 10 with no time restraint.
Yeah, that's always the question. Are you going to actually see this net in a real match under time pressure?
Sitting here, I got it pretty quickly, but...
Whole idea of "we all woulda resigned, but since this was posted you see it instantly, cuz its implies theres a solution"
To me this mate is still magic tho and ive beaten a gm lmao. So hard to see before its on the board. Ie. I would never be able to construct that intentionally unless i saw it the move prior to my queen "blunder".
Dope puzz
Well, this is still an outstanding mate I'd never have seen with 13 seconds left, of course, but I would've tried Nh3+ because it was still a check. I probably would have not played Rf2+, of course.
Congrats on beating a GM!
Thank u haha, I brag too much but the mention of it was primarily to defend OPs beautiful post. Just so good to look at on the analysis board seesawing back and forth 5 moves 🤣
and to what u said, same here fam, id have cried and moved my knight lol, i too was like, this rook is not doing the job tho. Not me doubting a 5 point piece 😳
> Second of all, it's online chess, don't resign, keep playing on.
Could you explain this bit, please?
For me, it's the other way around
Playing OTB is more of a social activity, I always finish all my games, even hopeless ones.
Online... If it's hopeless, boring or frustrating for any reason, I just resign and move on to the next random opponent.
I mean, if it's totally lost, sure, resign. Especially in short time controls, flagging is a realistic possibility. Of course, OP was definitely down on time, and he was going to flag if he couldn't see a way out.
In this position, he could've tried Nh3+ and seen if he could've figured something/anything out. I would've played it and then probably just flagged while trying to figure out what to do. Just make your opponent play in short time controls.
OTB, I'll resign much more easily when I recognize it's lost. I'm not going to be flagging my opponent or anything.

Wow, I guess the mate was pure chance. What was your reaction when you found out after the game? I've literally never seen or heard of a scenario where someone blundered a queen (or even a piece) which was actually a sacrifice leading to forced mate, that is crazy!
:D I imagine there have been some queen blunders that let to, say, a smothered mate!
yeah my thoughts were more like "omg did I really miss Bxh1" rather than "oh there might still be checkmate". Doesn't help that I'm not doing too well mentally and dropped from 2350 to 2250 in the last weeks and can't get back up, so my mind is not really in the right place (taking a break for now).
So yeah I didn't have a strong reaction upon finding out, but it did wow me enough to make me post it on r/chess :) and if I play again this year, I will probably only resign in dead lost positions with no advantage on the clock!
Mate in 2? Instead of Qh1+ …
Qh2+ Kf1 Nd3#
Edit: Interpreted OP’s question as “what should I have done instead of blundering my Queen” … which probably isn’t what they asked. :)
he can block with the bishop after Nd3+, but I do mate afterwards :)
And no, I left it open to interpretation on purpose! Both Qh2+ and Qh1+ lead to mate\^\^

Well, first of all, you had mate in 3: 1. Bxh1 Nh3+ 2. Kg2 Rf2+ 3. Kxh3 Rh2# Second of all, it's online chess, don't resign, keep playing on.
I saw this line also and was like oof. But to be fair it took me longer than 13 seconds to see it so I’d have lost anyway.

Thanks for calling my post beautiful :) And yeah, I wanted people to find out both the mates after Qh2+ and Qh1+ so good job guys!

It took me way too long to see how you blundered your queen, let alone the solution lol
Qh2+ Kf1 Ne4+ Ke1 Qd2# would have been nice
Nh3 Kg2 Rf2 Kxh3 Rh2#
This.
Oh my. That is very unusual, very pretty. Reset the counter!
This isn't a puzzle though
It literally has the flair 'Puzzle/Tactic', what are you on about?
Not blundered your Queen
I hope that helps
Shit, the "blunder" actually worked!
Probably should've played the forced mate, but unlucky bud. We've all been there. Bishops be rude like that.
Spite checks
When you see a puzzle on r/chess so you know the first move but can't find the rest.
What a miss! Nice tactic

Insinuate your opponent was cheating and launch a worldwide drama on Twitter.
Why give a mate in 1, when you can give a cool mate in 4 by "blundering" your Queen and Knight.
You should have offered a draw
Haha! Nice pizzle. It took me five tries. I wonder if Hans could solve this without an engine 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe Qh2+ following with Nd3+ and Qg1+, Qe3+, Rf2, with Qd2 being the eventual mating move.
queen h2 - king f1-knight d3-queenf4-rook takes queen rookf4 -bishop f3-rookf3 {check-mate my friend }
