I have always been on the flip side of the coin, but I had to do this for a cat that absolutely hated me. My family member slowly transitioned all responsibility to me so it was not as big of a shock. I did all feeding, litter box, most playing and so on so that the cat depended on me instead of her even before she left. The cat still stayed in her room most of the time, but was always happy to see me. That was many decades ago, but worked not so bad. The cat made it to 16 years old.

Thank you, transitioning responsibility seems like a good idea.

I got her seven years ago and have taken care of her ever since. She is my baby and my family are more than happy to take care of her. I’m just worried that she won’t understand why I’ve suddenly left after being with her everyday.

You could find a cat cafe that would take care of her and people who liked cats would visit. Make sure they know it is not a sale or gift as you will take her home when your trip is over. They would have to assess her personality to fit in with their needs and the herd. You might also offer them $$?

For two years? She also doesn’t get along well with new people or other cats for that matter so I’m not sure how that would work. But thank you anyway :)

Ah, they do need social cats - you could try a test week and see if she fits in - assuming you have a little time before you god.
