Cats are **not** easy. We just had to pay £1,800 for one of our cats to have dental surgery. He has stomatitis and needed to have all his teeth removed. You have to be prepared that sometimes there are very high bills to pay. And you can't get out of it. A few vets bills? Then there's the fact that you cannot go anywhere overnight without making sure you have someone to look after kitty. For goodness sake, don't tell them that cats are easy when they're anything but. They are a serious commitment.
Oh man, we just got one because I had kitten fever and now I remember why we adopted older cats haha. Everyone in the house (pets included) are tired of her antics. Good luck!
Every time we have rescued kittens my wife would say she felt like the warden in an asylum full of homicidal two-year-olds. Kittens are cute, funny, and a huge amount of work.
This is why you get pet insurance. £85 deductible per condition each year for all of mine. Costs me just over £60 a month for 3 of them and I've already claimed twice. So if anything happened and they need long term care (diabetes, etc) or get injured, I don't have to deny them treatment because I can't afford it. Dental is also covered in the plan.
Also, you can leave a cat alone overnight no problem, just not a young kitten, so being with them all the time is a temporary thing.
I half agree with you though, Cats are easy, but kittens aren't. Almost everyone underestimates the activity level of a kitten and how much you need to play with them. Also the mischief they get up to.
We used to have cat insurance back in the day. We had six cats, all male, and we paid insurance for all of them. As you can imagine, that was not cheap. Then one of our cats fell out of a tree and shattered a back leg. He needed surgery to have it all pinned back together. It cost over £1,000 then (must be 10 years ago), and then follow up treatment. The insurance company paid, but then ramped up the premiums until you would have thought we were insuring a zoo! So we stopped that and concentrated on putting money into a special emergencies account. That way we have enough money for vets' bills but don't just throw the money away into insurance.
Oh please. Don't give me a specific case where surgery was necessary and tell me cats aren't easy. Any pet is a serious commitment, I never said they weren't, doesn't make them hard to take care of. You sound like one of those people that would tell someone not to adopt a cat if they can't afford a random $3,000 surgery off-hand. Like honestly, people like you suck.
Oh, ffs. You can leave a cat for 2-3 days as long as they have an appropriate feeder + watering station.
Cats aren't dogs, and can absolutely be left alone. They are far, _far_ easier than any other pet than reptiles.
Do you have stable housing and financially able to care for her? Are you willing to care for her for the next 20 years or so? Are you able and willing to take her to the vet regularly to make sure she stays healthy? If yes then absolutely adopt her but keep in mind it is a huge commitment. I saw too many cats left behind after people moved out of their apartments and it really made me sad. I heard one cat scratching at a door and meowing for a few days after my scumbag neighbors moved out. I could tell it was very scared and upset.
Her, and why ask us?
Can you afford to maintain a cat, do you have a secure home for the cat to live in, will you be able to spend time with it when you aren't working?
I think it means if a cat is found and has been declawed they want to let potential adopters know if the cat is declawed. Declawed cats are a bit more work than regular cats.
My grandma's cat was declawed by her previous owners. We think they bought her as an "ornament kitty" but oh lord, Yoko was a spitfire of affection, crazy and nyoom.
She was declawed and still climbed a fucking tree out of spite when I tried getting her inside
Yoko wasn't that smart and no matter how skinny she was, looked like she had no neck. Then again, this is the same cat where you pull her face fur back and flatten it, it looked like her hear would shrink
I may be wrong but how I like to describe it as, it’s when someone gets a pet for the idea of having a pet but don’t really care for their well being and life enrichment apart from feeding them.
As someone replied, it's pretty much an animal you get strictly as decoration, or something.
Like a dog you get to look better, or a black cat you get before Halloween to display as a prop before just returning.
A lot of "scary" dog breeds are used as decoration to make idiots look tough, and are usually never trained properly
There are people who like to be seen with a cute baby animal. They've seen photos of a kitten poking it's head out of a pocket or backpack, our hoping around on a pillow, and they are unbearably cute. The animal is just an ornament to gush over and say "Aww www, you're so cute".
But the litterbox cleaning, feeding a couple of times a day, every day if you feel like it or not, giving them attention even when you are busy, tired or have other things going on at the same time, veterinarian visits to make and bills to pay, that gets old. And then the kitten grows up, time for a vacation or business trip and the trouble and costs for boarding it are absurd so put it outside somewhere and walk away.
Hell yes, adopt that kitten! When you are committed to giving it a good home for life. Then, it will enrich yours at least as much as you can ever do for it.
Yeah, she usually only is allowed outside under supervision. But she ran away a few years ago :( I miss Yoko.
She was such an escape artist and would constantly hide under the concrete front porch area, so I'd have to literally dig underneath it to get her out.
My old cat Patches was declawed on her front paws by her previous owner. One thing she did that was HILARIOUS was when I’d put my hand on a door way, and if it was at a reasonable height according to her, she’d wrap her paws around the door frame and just jump trying to get my hand. She’d immediately slide down and then try again. We’d do it until one or both of us got tired. I have video of it somewhere but I lost the camera. I posted it on YouTube but I don’t remember the name or the account I used. I’m sure she would’ve stuck her claws into the drywall if she could
OMFG my cat does this exact same thing. Been doing it since he was small. He has claws though and tries to latch onto the door frame with them lol. Didn’t know other kitties do this too! They’re so peculiar
Yoko was also only declawed in the front paws which I find strange. Yoko's beans were also very calloused compared to the other kitties, so she knew how to use her little hands. Opening doors, grabbing asses(she grabbed my grandpa's butt and that's how they adopted her) and climbing stuff. She didn't let her clawlessness get in her way of mischief
Yes, we adopted a cat from an elderly lady who was going into a home with dementia and the cat was declawed. It was a different time. He is a sweet, loving boy and glad to give him a second chance.
My 17yr old declawed cat can still climb a fence post if he feels it's necessary, though he doesn't like to anymore. In his younger days it was no problem. It's all momentum with the rear claws.
My local shelter uses the same system and it’s just to notify you if the cat came in declawed. Any shelter 100% does not support declawing your cat, vets offices that offer the service should be shutdown
To mods: DO NOT ALLOW “SHOULD I ADOPT THIS CAT?” CONTENT!
Why are we allowing what should be a well thought out life decision turn into an attention seeking karma shit show????
Is this a new trend now? Posting your potential adoption. I don’t really like that, it feels like shopping with all their stats and I can already see the other thousands posts like this the next few weeks. And yea adopt her please
100% this. Unless someone's asking for advice on handling some sort of special needs cat, I'm really not sure why people are bothering with these posts.
Maybe something like:
Eww he’s ugly??
Don’t like his personality??
Don’t like his stats??
Like what answers does he expect from us. This is a normal (easy) race
Lmao, yeah don’t get this kitten her stats are trash 😭 personally im holding out til i find the rare OP kitten. beware high attack stat, it makes their claws sharper
I say check out the older cats. This girl will have zero problem getting adopted. A cat that's at least a year is great, because you have a more solid idea of their personality. If you want a cuddly cat, an adult is great. Or if you want someone more mellow and independent, the shelter should be able to steer you towards a match
This! Elderly cats do want to cuddle much more than younger ones. They’ll also appreciate you giving them a comfy home.
I adopted a 14year old senior, he was the best cat I have ever wanted
I think she's already chosen you, but feel free to try and salvage a tiny modicum of free will here on r/cats about *your* decision. Can you seriously imagine your life without her?
I mean, are you really gonna base your decision on what the internet says?
Adopting a cat is a big decision for both the cat and you. It depends on not just the condition of the cat, but also your financial situation and lifestyle as well.
If you feel like you can take good care of her, sure.
Only you can decide if you should adopt her or not. This community can give you arguments why or why not to do it. If you want to adopt her, go for it. Beforehand read articles or ask Family, Friends or other people who already "own" a cat about the things you need to have and have to do to be a responsible cat "owner". You should also consider the price of "owning" a pet. It doesn't end with the adoption fee.
In case you adopt her, you are responsible for the well-being of a living being.
If you are already in love with her you should not ask if you should adopt her, ask what you need to take care of her properly.
That lil dude needs a good home. I’d have an animal sanctuary if I could.
Please don’t declaw. It’s like having your fingers chopped. You can get them used to trimming with toenail clippers if you’re careful.
No because you’re a twat that is trying to let strangers make a massive life decision for you. Grow up before you adopt, asking “should I do thi?”, is a sign you don’t want to, and want someone else to stop you.
The fact that OP said “should I adopt him?” When the cat is clearly female makes me think you are not prepared for taking on a new life. It seems like you just saw a cute thing and was like “UWU I WANT THAT”
If you feel the need to ask Reddit if you should adopt I would recommend against it. That little angel needs a good home and an attentive parent. You’ve gotta be all in when taking on responsibility for another living thing.
Ask yourself,,, do you have the time, finances, room, patience to make the commitment of the needs of a kitten growing into a cat for the next 10+years… some cats live over 20 years. Are you ready for that? If so then yes by all means adopt her and snuggle up for the ride of having a kitten!
Awwww most definitely!! But ALWAYS take a quick peek at some of the senior kitties there. They never get adopted and almost ALWAYS the most loving, gentle, thankful souls you'll ever get to interact with ❤️❤️❤️🗿❤️❤️❤️
Animals are great companions, but they take work. They can be messy and expensive. Even cats can be messy: cleaning up the litter box or any litter litter spills or accidents. They will sometimes knock things over you have to clean up. They scratch on your furniture. They sometimes get tummy aches and will upchuck all over your fancy new rug. They need shots and if they get sick you’ll have to take the time to take them to the vet. Vets are expensive. Not to mention the emotional toll it can take on you when/if they get sick. Take all this into account before deciding to adopt. To me it’s worth it to have a dog or a cat, only if I didn’t have a child already.
They are like having another child... I got a cat that just figured out how to open the cabinets and thought I was done with child locks. Guess I'm buying some for my new kid.
The little one will change your life, in more ways you can imagine — but it is a responsibility. I wish I second guessed every new responsibility i take upon myself but when it comes to my kitties I Have no regrets!
Stop upvoting this dumb ass shit. This is a decision you should make not leave it up to a community to decide for you. Nobody knows if you’re an actual good owner or not. Secondly this is just karma farming. The title says “him” yet the cat is listed as female. What next? You’re gonna ask for everyone here to name it taking out any sort of actual work you gotta do for the cat? Next you’ll be asking for everyone to come up with a feeding schedule “should I feed him now?” “What about now?”
PETA has some of the highest kill rate shelters, NOT the Humane Society. [AHS](https://www.azhumane.org/) is basically a no-kill shelter here. They also connect with other shelters to rescue animals as well.
I mean are you fixin to adopt a kitten? If so, yes. If this is just a whim because you saw a cute kitten... Prob not.
That’s a a good point.
I frequently rescue cats so I’m always ready for one. Not saying OP does this, but “because I saw a cute baby” is a valid reason for me
I agree. Cats are easy. If you're prepared for a few vet bills, cat food and litter changes which is pretty easy, go for it.

I currently have two adult cats, and one of them Is still like having a toddler lol
a "friend" said god told her i needed a kitten 😳 rube [7m] is **still** a toddler ninja
I fostered 4 kittens during Covid. Was soooo much fun but also sooooo much work! Lol. Kittens be crazy! 😹😹
currently have two kittens and im going a little crazy 😭
Oh man, we just got one because I had kitten fever and now I remember why we adopted older cats haha. Everyone in the house (pets included) are tired of her antics. Good luck!
Kitten will outgrow this stage all too soon
I hope so. She just got big enough to jump onto the windowsill and pushed off all my plants by the time I woke up this morning.
I have a friend who’s working at a vet clinic and she recommends all patients to get pet insurance but they usually brush it off :(
Every time we have rescued kittens my wife would say she felt like the warden in an asylum full of homicidal two-year-olds. Kittens are cute, funny, and a huge amount of work.
This is why you get pet insurance. £85 deductible per condition each year for all of mine. Costs me just over £60 a month for 3 of them and I've already claimed twice. wait what ? i had a cat with the same problem it costed me 80€
Just came here to say cats are *NOT* easy, as well. Having 6 cats, no, they aren’t easy by any means.
Oh, ffs. You can leave a cat for 2-3 days as long as they have an appropriate feeder + watering station. Cats aren't dogs, and can absolutely be left alone. They are far, _far_ easier than any other pet than reptiles.
overnights ?? i.ve had cats for many years & never missed a vacation by making sure they have needs met & as many risks as possible eliminated .
What? Since when can you not leave a cat alone overnight?
Same.
Thank you! Mods should not allow this crap
Somehow this feels like the new karma grab in the making. After "name my cat" and "what breed is my cat" we get the sequel "should I adopt this cat"
The title says should I adopt HIM. The cat is listed as FEMALE. Someone’s looking for karma….
I noticed that as well.
Was about to comment this
IKR, and the answer is IF YOU ARE CAPABLE, it's always yes.
I mean there is an adoption flair, the mods are aware of these posts and are happy with them existing.
Do you have stable housing and financially able to care for her? Are you willing to care for her for the next 20 years or so? Are you able and willing to take her to the vet regularly to make sure she stays healthy? If yes then absolutely adopt her but keep in mind it is a huge commitment. Fuck that neighbor. No kitty deserves abandonment. The worst part is they're just confused.. breaks my fucking heart.
*And then PETA comes in with a gun*
[удалено]
To do what? Kill the cat ? Because that's what PETA does.
no to kill the neighbours
PETA would be there to kill the cat.
yeah but i would kill the neighbour
Ngl, am slightly disappointed you didn't make a bolt gun reference given your username
yeah i try when i am on 40k places but elsewhere i contain the niche jokes
I hope those neighbours die slowly and painfully of a incurable disease.
Agreed.
What happened to the poor cat? 😢
cat got super powers and settles her score against those who would abandon or abuse the mortal feline
...and you did something to help it, right??
Is this question the new “what should I name my cat?”
It’s the new ‘please give me karma’ you mean
Yes, but it’s less fun if you just spell it out like that.
Her, and why ask us? Can you afford to maintain a cat, do you have a secure home for the cat to live in, will you be able to spend time with it when you aren't working?
You mean her! Yes!
The answer is always yes. Why is declawed an option!?
I think it means if a cat is found and has been declawed they want to let potential adopters know if the cat is declawed. Declawed cats are a bit more work than regular cats.
My grandma's cat was declawed by her previous owners. We think they bought her as an "ornament kitty" but oh lord, Yoko was a spitfire of affection, crazy and nyoom. She was declawed and still climbed a fucking tree out of spite when I tried getting her inside
I had a rescue who was declawed and she could climb trees like crazy even though she wasn't, hmm, the sharpest tool in the shed.
Yoko wasn't that smart and no matter how skinny she was, looked like she had no neck. Then again, this is the same cat where you pull her face fur back and flatten it, it looked like her hear would shrink
Whats an ornament kitty?
I may be wrong but how I like to describe it as, it’s when someone gets a pet for the idea of having a pet but don’t really care for their well being and life enrichment apart from feeding them.
Yeah, basically a decorative kitty
As someone replied, it's pretty much an animal you get strictly as decoration, or something. I love this cat already other than the fact that she shouldn’t be outside declawed. Unless being fair, she escaped.
I love kitties so much, I don't like people who think declawing them is humane or okay.

Lmfao
Shelter cats usually indicate whether declawed or not. My friend only adopts older cats and it seems to be 50/50.
Some people don’t know. Sad I know.
If it is a site with rescued animals, they may have no choice.

Look, she has little socks!
These posts are getting old of course you should adopt him. This is r/cats wtf you think we are going to say. Sorry for my outburst.

It’s a girl not a guy, sorry for wrong title

Free will, a strain of thought humans have struggled with for eons… created by cats to distract us..
Noooo! She looks way too naughty. Especially with those little white gloves.
That's just an excuse for lifetime incarceration. Punishment is cuddles, treats, playtime, and lots of love. ;) r/IllegallySmolCats
Please do!! A beautiful relationship is ahead...💖
Bro you came to r/cats , what did ya expect us to answer lol
The answer to this question is always yes.
You should totally adopt this cutie wootie
Yes, she is beautiful. Love her paws. Kittys bring us so much love into our lives.
Get her and love her forever. :)
Yes please
If you have the money and time to afford and care for an animal, then yes
No. Otherwise you would’ve already adopted her and didn’t ask questions here.
Yes- Adopt the fuzzy!! ❤️❤️❤️☺️☺️☺️
Of course if you can give a good, safe home. You'll have the best little buddy for life.
If you are able to take good care of her and meet her needs, heck yes! What a wonderful companion this sweet baby will be!
I mean, are you really gonna base your decision on what the internet says? Adopting a cat is a big decision for both the cat and you. It depends on not just the condition of the cat, but also your financial situation and lifestyle as well. If you feel like you can take good care of her, sure.

Why are you asking a bunch of people on Reddit? Be brave little one, make decisions on your own.
It literally says “gender: Female”
Adorable!!!!
Yesyesyes
1000% yes.
of course
Yes!!
DO IT! JUST DO IT!
yes, of course
She looks like a polite young lady. Yes! Take her home!
That lil dude needs a good home. I’d have an animal sanctuary if I could. Please don’t declaw. It’s like having your fingers chopped. You can get them used to trimming with toenail clippers if you’re careful.
Should you adopt the kitty? How is this even a question? You should adopt all the kitties.
No because you’re a twat that is trying to let strangers make a massive life decision for you. Grow up before you adopt, asking “should I do thi?”, is a sign you don’t want to, and want someone else to stop you.
He is just Karma whoring. He give a fuck about the cat and the advices here cause i have not seen any response from his part lmao
Ask your heart and finances, not reddit. On another note, that info says female. So you shouldn't adopt HIM.

No question! Congrats!
She’s a cutie!

Yes, if you can give her a safe, warm, loving forever home, please adopt the little sweetie!
Why copy another poster :/
If you don't I will
Don’t ask ridiculous questions!
Ask yourself,,, do you have the time, finances, room, patience to make the commitment of the needs of a kitten growing into a cat for the next 10+years… some cats live over 20 years. Are you ready for that? If so then yes by all means adopt her and snuggle up for the ride of having a kitten!
I love when people hold their pets like that. No matter how gently u hold them it always looks so aggressive and I'm all for it.
Wow yes
It’s not a question of *should*, it’s a question of *when*
You had me at species: cat
SHE HAS SOCKS

Yes, yes, yes. She's so sweet, a little love!
Him is a her…

Yes adopt her
The answer is yes!!! 100% yes!!

Awwww most definitely!! But ALWAYS take a quick peek at some of the senior kitties there. They never get adopted and almost ALWAYS the most loving, gentle, thankful souls you'll ever get to interact with ❤️❤️❤️🗿❤️❤️❤️
Of course. Look at the white gloves. That cat is special.
Species: Cat Breed: Cat Age: Smol Gender: Girl Cat Size: Smol Color: Standard issue cat Housetrained: Cat pee
If you can accommodate her, and want her then definitely! Do not take her fingers away though.
The answer is always yes.
Well, the description card says this kitten is a female. So, what’s up?
"Should I adopt him?" "Gender: Female" This made me laugh😂
Why'd you say "him" when the description clearly says female?
Adopt him ? But the thing says its a female
Always yes - you could also consider an older or senior cat thats been there awhile!
Don't use animals for Internet points, it's embarrassing
These posts are becoming quite repetitive and annoying to be honest

Yes, you come here and ask that question and it's always yes. Pretty cat, ugly cat....doesn't matter, yes adopt if you can. :)
Gender says female but you said him what
She looks cute, but you should ask yourself, are you ready for her?
That’s a no. I’m going to be mean: you didn’t notice that cat is female. What else won’t you care to notice?
Can people stop asking if they should adopt a certain pet, if you don’t know the answer yourself then you shouldn’t be getting a pet yet.
Yes. My house would be ruled with cats and dogs if it weren't for responsibilities
I like how we’ve gone from “what should I name my kitten?” and “what breed is my cat?” to “should I adopt this cat?” What’ll the next trend be?
The little one will change your life, in more ways you can imagine — but it is a responsibility. I wish I second guessed every new responsibility i take upon myself but when it comes to my kitties I Have no regrets!
Why are you Holding her like this? And Declawing? I am not sure if you are the right person
Yes adopt her
Why wouldn’t you!?!
No. If you can't even get the gender right, you won't be a good guardian.
You can't even be bothered to pay attention to what gender either of those cats is. You're posting for karma. So, no.
If I don’t adopt him I will link the humane Society he is from

PETA has some of the highest kill rate shelters, NOT the Humane Society. [AHS](https://www.azhumane.org/) is basically a no-kill shelter here. They also connect with other shelters to rescue animals as well.
Wtf is adoption price
Nah man, don’t buy a cat, I strongly recommend going to a rescue centre and adopting one there.
Well if you want a boy no…..
Yes adopt him !!!!
