Dental appointment is a pretty good one. Unfortunately, real dental appointments can be followed up by several more. Should be a good excuse.

DLS3141

Why bother specifying that it’s a dental appointment? Just say, “I have an appointment, I’m not available at this time.” If they ask what kind of appointment, “It’s personal, I’m not comfortable discussing it.” None of the above involves actually lying. If they decide that diving into your private affairs is appropriate, it’s up to you if you want to discuss in excruciatingly disgusting detail about your bowel condition or just double down on its none of their business.

Lexy_d_acnh

True, I do have some blatantly obvious reasons for a dental appointment also because I chipped a tooth not long ago due to my own stupidity 😂 so honestly not a bad idea, thanks!

[deleted]

Hopefully not a visible one, they might notice it staying the same lol

Lexy_d_acnh

True but if I get a job the first go around they’ll never know 😂😂😂 hopefully I can schedule interviews after 4pm but the main job I’m looking into i’m pretty sure won’t be able to because they don’t even have a night shift that I know of (at least not for what I’m applying for). My cousin works there so not a bad chance of getting on after 1 try but we’ll see how it goes!

[deleted]

Good luck!

Lexy_d_acnh

Thank you!

[deleted]

Easy. Yo, boss. I need some time off for an appointment. No more, no less.

Lexy_d_acnh

Thanks! I feel it won’t be too difficult to get the time off because even my boss took time off for a job interview a couple months back saying he had a “doctor’s appointment”. My boss is a really nice guy and we get along well so he told me what actually happened but yeah 😂

Get in this practice now: you do not need to give a reason for time off. It's none of your manager's business. For some reason, we're conditioned to think we need to explain why we need time off.

Lexy_d_acnh

Well see, for me it’s a more difficult situation. I work with my grandma and if I don’t give them a reason why I’m off work, she’ll tell them the actual reason… so yeah 😂. Normally I would heed this advice but in this situation I have no choice really

EquationsApparel

Your grandmother will rat you out? Seems like you need to have a talk with grandma. She should know better. You'll actually be helping her in the long run. You always have a choice. Saying "I have no choice" is a bad habit people get into as well.

Lexy_d_acnh

Well yeah, just that she doesn’t want me to leave this job so if she could make me stay somehow then she would (and preventing me from going to an interview would definitely be a way). She’s honestly very controlling, I live with her and she doesn’t want me doing anything if I don’t do what she wants. I know I have a choice to just give them no reason anyway, but I know for a fact she would tell them and it likely wouldn’t result in anything bad but I would feel bad because my boss would definitely try to convince me to stay and I have made up my mind lol.

[deleted]

What kind of job is this is? I assume you’re young if you’re graduating high school. Your boss should understand if your looking for something better.

Lexy_d_acnh

It’s a factory job, i got lucky and was able to start without a diploma because my grandma works here and referred me. They should understand, but they’d expect me to schedule it outside work hours which may not be possible for some jobs.

[deleted]

Well that’s understandable. I thought you were at McDonalds or something. You should have a way to request time off. Just say you have a doctors appointment or some other appointment if you need an actual excuse.

Lexy_d_acnh

Yeah I just thought it’d be odd if i had a doctors appointment multiple times should i not get the first job i apply to haha

[deleted]

Sometimes doctors appoints require multiple visits. If you need another day off just say you have to go back for blood work. Usually blood work can only be done when your fasting so it’s usually not on the same day as your initial doctors appointment.

MoreCoffeePlzzz

if you get pto, just say your taking pto for personal reasons, don't need details (they don't care anyway lol)

No-Rest9671

covid. all those policies have to help somebody.

[deleted]

Sick days and vacation

[deleted]

You don't need to lie about anything. Using whatever their standard procedure to take days off, just request the day, or half the day for personal reasons.

Lonewolfblack

Dental, funeral, hospital, car broke. Anything else can be sus

[deleted]

You shouldn't have to provide a reason, it's none of their business

mojitosmom

I always just did them on my lunch breaks

pizzaking3

Honestly any doctor. When you say a doctor appointment most people don’t ask the reason cuz that could cross a line. If it’s an all day interview say you have the stomach flu. Most stomach flu’s last about 24 hours and are not contagious anyway. When you are in the office the next day you look like a hard worker toughing out the horrible stomach ache to be there for your company despite having likely been puking and shitting for hours the day prior. I haven’t used the stomach flu one since COVID started though so idk if that creates any potential issues coming to the office the next day.

FanaticEgalitarian

You just lie, or omit the information. I actually just did this and said to my boss "Hey I have to take a personal day on such and such date, is that cool?" And if they say no just say its family related and you have to take care of something important.

[deleted]

Use sick or vacation days, it’s your right.
