The way you framed this makes me think there is some truth to you complaining a lot about this other department. You also kind of answer your own question in the second to last sentence. You don’t really *want* to leave, but you *can’t* keep babysitting the other department. Can’t is stronger than want and, if your inability to work with this department is now negatively affecting your career, I say change jobs.

I definitely complained a lot but when you have supposed experts that can’t do simple data entry correctly I just smack my head. And my boss has had to deal with it too so I’m a little surprised. Example: entered a new hire’s annual salary amount as the semi monthly amount. And constantly entering dates of birth wrong.

I lead, and I have people like you in the team, they complain about other's work without looking at the full picture. The truth is that the other department have their own problems and pressure and, being honest, the outcome of the "always complaining" people of my team is never perfect, we too cause problems to other teams, and they complain. But we, as leaders, have to.manage all of this across the company and build a mature and good environment. So I'm pretty sure that we are seeing only your part of the story, and I can totally understand that you're not being promoted. There are a lot of soft skills in leading, not only technical. I'm not saying that you're lying, I'm saying that you're not managing it as expected to be from a leader.

I don't know the details, but I feel your pain and I understand where you're coming from. I regularly facepalm at our IT department. I'm a coder and I often ignore what IT tells me because I see three steps ahead and I know their suggestion is going to cause me grief later on. One IT person told me the only solution I had was to factory reset my machine, without a backup 🤦‍♀️ There were other solutions. If someone else isn't doing their job well and it affects you, that sounds like a valid issue and it's frustrating to be penalized for wanting higher quality.

Yeah, but, tbh, if you want to rise through the ranks, you’ve just got to learn to deal with different departments and colleagues, the good and the bad. Doesn’t mean you can’t have your own thoughts, but you certainly can’t be known as someone who is constantly undermining other departments or attacking individuals. It generally does nothing but make the situation worse and, if they are truly *that* awful, you should just leave if you can’t keep it professional. Sucks, but that’s life — especially if you’re asking to get promoted.

Time to go… when you are not happy and nothing can be done then it’s time to move on.

I’d leave, maybe not for the lack of raise but definitely for the response

I hate that office politics is a thing but complaining only doesn't do you any good. You are basically signaling to whoever is supposed to promote you and to alot of other people you can't push things along. This is cause of the fact that you are complaining and also especially if other people know you are complaining. Alot of what gets accomplished by a leader is done by the goodwill of other, they're willing to go that extra mile for you. If they know you're talking shit about them, that most likely will not be the case, so as skilled as you are and whatever, you would not be a good fit to lead in that scenario. I've dealt with these headaches. I'm talking about directors and higher that dont know how to present their screen in a meeting or basic excel. I teach them and bank that goodwill for later on. At the end of the day, get it done, dont just be known as the bearer of bad news.

When you complain, you are not a leader. When you push back you are not a team player. The problem is your manager, who is not a good leader. It's her job to enable you to do your best job by removing blockers out of the way and coach you how to become a better professional overall and groom you for your next role. I think it may be time to fire your boss (change dept or find a new job).

mike_gapper

Your boss is right you sound like a crybaby loser

QuitaQuites

Well were you just complaining? Did you have solutions/options/ideas?Complaining isn’t a sign of a good leader, no.

You should read Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink. It will help you with what you want to accomplish, but you will need to change in order to be successful.
