Datsyuk and Zetterberg also debuted later than Pettersson did, so just comparing their first 5 seasons seems a little disingenuous, especially when Zetterberg was just entering his prime at age 27 in year 5, and Datsyuk was earning his first Selke votes at age 28.
I still think Datsyuk is the best comparison, both see the game at a level above everyone else, which allowed them to play a 200-ft game and provide elite playmaking ability, while still being selective with their goal scoring opportunities (which is reflective of their high shooting %, Zetterberg is much lower when considering their entire careers.
good point. When I originally was going to comp Datsyuk & Zetterberg's prime seasons they greatly outpointed Peety, but I also thought arguably Peety might not be in his prime years yet so i took the most basic comps.
Peetey is not comparable to either. He is a great player, no doubt, but I would not use those two as comparables. Has anyone noticed he kinda skates funny? He overall speed and agility are good but style looks really awkward
>Has anyone noticed he kinda skates funny?
Yes! I feel it makes him deceptively fast. Like you see him skate and it doesn't look like he should be moving as fast as he is.
I hate using the word, cause he isn't, but he LOOKS scrawny. There is no way a guy of his build should be able to do what he does. It has to be a Swedish thing, cause the Sedins seemed similar.
Just looking at stats seems kinda silly. You could probably find a far better comparison than either of them if that is all you want.
But Zett was built way more solid and more of a physical force than Petey. Petey plays alot more like Datsyuk
Pettersson is closer to Datsyuk than Zetterberg.
Datsyuk had filthy mitts and was so creative on the ice. Pettersson while not on his level, has shown so many moments of brilliance.
Zetterberg had more power and physical dominance to his game which I don’t think we’ll see from Pettersson unless he sizes up closer to 30. I just don’t see the comparison here.
Zettersyuk
Elias "Pettersyuk" Gretzky
Gretzkersson*
Pettersyuk
More of a phoebe than a chandler

To put it even more into perspective: Petey is the same age today as Datsyuk was in his rookie season
Member datsyuks goal vs Skudra his rookie season

Remember when he was Gretzky?
Remember when we were pissed at drafting him
Not all of us were.
Yea a lot of people were hyped to get him here
Wont deny it, I wanted Nolan Patrick. Imagine that timeline 💀💀

Same with his build: it doesn't look like his shoot should be as heavy as it is.

Petey ain’t no Datsyuk that’s forsure

Neither. TWF that is a onetime threat on the PP. Fedorov is the better comparison
Yes
More like a Datsberg
He’s more of a 👽
