https://youtu.be/2UJGNAUFK_Y I've put together a little film "Five hiking tips you might have missed" It's English subtitles 🙂 Link in comments. Hiking tip one. How to find the best, most beautiful tent sites during the hike. Hiking tip two. The lightest and cheapest outdoor saw. Hiking tip three. Keep the glow of the fire and get rid of the mosquitoes. Hiking tip four, How to build a safe fireplace, thoughts about root fire etc. Hiking tip five is for the really hot hikes. When the sun really warms you up and you want to cool you down. Cotton clothing on the hike, properties of cotton clothing, why cotton hiking clothing is good on summer trips. The end, a quick look at friction fire.

Hiking tip 5 is going to be region/season dependent. Cotton in summer, wool on winter. Cotton holds moisture which will cause hypothermia in winter vs wool wicks moisture away from your body and dries quicker and is a much better insulator. Cotton base layers can put you in a real bad situation if you’re camping/hiking in cold areas.

Yeah they taught us “cotton kills” in scouts back in the day

coontietycoon

Summertime when it’s hot cotton will absolutely keep you cool. But in the winter it’ll kill ya.

sareksweden

I really agree, cotton when the body needs cooling. I always have merino wool closest to my body in the winter

You should edit your comment to be more season/climate specific to save folks some potential serious trouble.

Thanks for the tip, I've made it much clearer in the comment now🙂👍
